Bereit zu rocken und eine gute Zeit zu haben? Manchmal ist das Leben doch so einfach. Wenn die Antwort darauf „ja“ lautet, dann sind die unbestrittenen Könige des Rock’n’Roll zurück, um die maximale Befriedigung zu bieten. Danko Jones, die dreiköpfige Elitetruppe, hat sich der edlen Kunst der Riffs, Melodien und lebensbejahenden Rockhymnen verschrieben und ist bereit, alle „Electric Sounds“ zu servieren, die man dazu braucht. So heißt auch das kommende, neue Album, das im September erscheint. Bereits jetzt kursiert der erste Vorab-Track mit dem eindeutigen Titel „Guess Who’s Back“. Danko Jones wurden 1996 in Toronto gegründet und haben so ziemlich alles gesehen und gemacht. Angetrieben vom DIY-Punkrock-Geist und inspiriert vom Guten, Großen und Grotesken des Rock’n‘Roll, haben sie sich kontinuierlich eine riesige internationale Fangemeinde aufgebaut und sind zu einer der am meisten gefeierten Live-Bands geworden. Seit zehn Jahren spielen Frontmann Danko Jones und Bassist John Calabrese ziemlich fest mit Schlagzeuger Rich Knox zusammen und haben hörbar ein paar Gänge hochgeschaltet. Das kreative Feuer der Band lodert heller denn je, die Platten und vor allem die Auftritte wurden noch intensiver. Im Jahr 2023 veröffentlichen Torontos Erzbischöfe des Rock das elfte Album „Electric Sounds“: Elf perfekte neue Danko Jones-Songs geben der Platte den Sound und das Gefühl eines weiteren Klassikers. Diese Band verfeinert einfach ihr Handwerk immer mehr, und zwar immer mit voller Lautstärke. Selbst eine globale Pandemie kann Danko Jones nicht aufhalten. Im Gegenteil, es hat sie sogar noch stärker angetrieben. Denn Danko Jones leben vor allem live: „Zwei Jahre lang nicht zu arbeiten, fühlte sich wirklich an, als ob wir auf die Weide gestellt würden“, erinnert sich Jones, „aber ich glaube, das hat uns nur noch mehr angestachelt.“ Jetzt wird es Zeit, den Tiger wieder aus dem Tank zu lassen und den fetten Riffrock zusammen mit den amerikanischen Punkrockern von Radkey als Support zu uns zurückzubringen.

Danko Jones im Frühsommer 2022 auf Tour in Deutschland Mit „Power Trio“ feiern Danko Jones am 27. August 2021 nicht nur die Veröffentlichung ihres mittlerweile zehnten Studioalbums, sondern auch gleichzeitig ihr 25-jähriges Bandjubiläum. Anlässlich des Bandgeburtstages geben die Rocker aus Toronto nun bekannt, dass sie im Frühsommer 2022 vier Konzerte in Berlin, Hamburg, Münster und Braunschweig spielen. Ursprünglich verankert in der Garagen-Rock-Szene, in welcher Performance das Wichtigste war, sehen sich die Kanadier auch heute noch eher vor Publikum als vor Tonreglern: „Wir sind keine Studio-Band. Wir gehören auf die Bühne“, so Band-Leader Danko Jones. Wie reagiert nun aber eine Band, deren Herz für wilde Shows schlägt, wenn ihr der natürliche Lebensraum – die Bühnen dieser Welt – pandemiebedingt nicht mehr zur Verfügung steht? „Die Pandemie hat uns auf jeden Fall vor Herausforderungen gestellt“, sagt der Sänger. „Statt gemeinsam im Proberaum zu jammen, um die Songs so aufzunehmen, wie wir es immer taten, mussten wir umdenken und auf andere technische Möglichkeiten zurückgreifen. Anfänglich war das gar nicht einfach“, ergänzt er. Aber schließlich half die Technik enorm. Von der Demo-Version von „Blue Jean Denim Jumpsuit“, welche komplett während des Lockdowns entstanden ist, war Danko Jones so beeindruckt, dass er keine Sorge hatte, das ganze Album auf diesem Wege aufzunehmen. Auch, wenn dies letztendlich mehr Zeit in Anspruch nahm als für die Band üblich. Auf „Power Trio“ präsentieren Danko Jones elf neue Songs und zeigen sich thematisch vielseitig. Der Vermutung, dass während der Quarantäne die Inspiration fehlt wenn es um das Texten der Songs geht, widersprechen Danko Jones somit aus Überzeugung. „Die Tatsache, allein zu Hause zu sitzen, eröffnet einem ganz neue Perspektiven auf die Dinge, die um einen herum geschehen“, so Danko Jones. Während die Tracks „I Want Out”, “Let’s Rock Together” und “Start The Show” von der Isolation inspiriert sind, bezieht sich “Raise Some Hell” beispielsweise auf die Ermordung von George Floyd und die Proteste der Black Lives Matter Bewegung in Nordamerika. Entgegen der thematischen Vielfalt auf dem Album sind die Kanadier ihrem Stil aus Garagen Rock, Punk und Classic Rock treu geblieben. Im vergangenen Vierteljahrhundert haben sie allen musikalischen Trends getrotzt und sind von ihrer Vorstellung von moderner Rockmusik nicht abgewichen – ganz in der glorreichen Tradition von Motörhead und AC/DC. Dieser hohe Wiedererkennungswert bescherte Danko Jones zu Beginn der Karriere vor nunmehr 25 Jahren auf Anhieb viele Fans. Und mit eben diesen werden die Musiker im Mai und Juni nächsten Jahres Geburtstag feiern und wieder dorthin zurückkehren, wo so eine Party am Schönsten ist – auf die Bühne.

Danko Jones (formed in 1996) is a Canadian hard rock three-piece that also incorporates the stylistic tendencies of garage rock, punk and blues, hailing from Toronto, Canada.

Comprised of band leader, vocalist and guitarist Danko Jones, bassist John Calabrese, and drummer Rich Knox, the group first appeared in 1996. For two years Danko Jones patiently raised their profile through word of mouth live performances including supporting the likes of The New Bomb Turks, Nashville Pussy, The Make-Up, and The Chrome Cranks. By 1998 the group decided to head to the studio and recorded a self-produced collection of songs, released as the EP “Danko Jones”. Issued by Sonic Unyon Records, the EP raised the band’s profile as did its successor “My Love Is Bold” in 1999. Led by the single “Bounce” which generated national radio play, the EP was subsequntly nominated for the 2000 Juno Award for Best Alternative Album.

The compilation “I’m Alive and On Fire” arrived in 2001 on Bad Taste Records, which was promoted by a European tour including shows in Denmark and Sweden. Despite having not released a full-length album, the band’s European popularity far outweighed their success in the U.S., with future tours featuring a host of European dates. In 2002 Danko Jones released their debut studio album “Born A Lion” on Bad Taste Records. Earning popular reviews from the critical press, the album was supported by intense touring including an opening slot on The Rolling Stones’ “40 Licks” World Tour.

Two years later the band’s sophomore album “We Sweat Blood” hit the shelves earning two Juno nominations for Best Rock Album and Best Video (“Lovercall”). Despite being dropped from Universal Canada’s roster, Danko Jones marched soon undeterred and toured alongside Turbonegro, Sepultura, and The Bronx in America before heading once again to Europe. Following shows in the Netherlands, Germany, and South Africa, the band released their third studio album “Sleep Is the Enemy” in February 2006. Marked by their first Canadian tour in four years, the record was followed by months of intense touring. In 2008 Danko Jones issued the full-length “Never Too Loud”, produced by Nick Raskulinecz, followed by the studio album “Below the Belt” in 2010.

The following year Danko Jones released the EP “Mouth to Mouth” and embarked on another tour to test out new material. The full-length “Rock and Roll Is Black and Blue” subsequently arrived in 2012, led by the single “Just a Beautiful Day”, followed by “Fire Music” in 2015.

Live reviews

Toronto band Danko Jones have been active on the circuit for over fifteen years now and have amassed a following many bands would envy. They may not be constantly appearing on charts yet they have an arguably better work process as they are able to record and release new material and head out across the globe almost instantly as they pair travelling with visiting their fans.

Lead vocalist and the band's namesake Danko Jones clearly loves what he does as he takes to the stage to perform. They are not an over the top or charismatic band yet you watch the musicians intermingle and jam out together it is clear they are enjoying playing for the crowds. The audience applauds and cheers in all the right places and Danko thanks them for coming out tonight and allowing them to continue touring around. They have been to the UK a number of times yet with every visit the crowds seem to grow larger and the appreciation for the likes of 'Sugar High' and 'Full of Regret' is bigger still.

Danko Jones hails from Canada, and brings to the table a sort of garage punk sound similar to their contemporaries, The Transplants. He’s also extremely fun to watch live, bringing in the audience as though his is the host of a fantastic party for anyone over the age of eighteen. The common denominator is just that everyone is in it for a fantastic time. Together with his band they get this audience into the right spirit. His drummer, Rich Knox, is one of those that throughout the whole set always looks like he’s having the best time, smiling throughout, enjoying every section of every song. John Calabrese, the bass player deserves a mention, always getting the crowd to sing where it’s due and encouraging all sorts of crowd participation whether it’s jumping up and down to the music, clapping along, singing along etc… all sorts of activities are involved. Some of the stand out songs for me personally are “Type of Girl” and “Don’t Do This”

Danko is an amazing showman, he'll grab you and won't let you go until the show is finished. In-your-face music and attitude, the performance is full of energy and bravado. Too many new tunes and not much of the old (and good) stuff.

The Garage offered poor sound for such a big venue, glad they provide with earbuds to save the pain.

I think it's maybe the 4th or 5th time I saw them live and every show I enjoyed to the fullest! The new album 'Wild Cat' is definitely one of my favorites and the energy they showed on stage playing those songs was amazing to watch! So if you haven't seen them live before pease do! <3

Good damn! I come fore rock'n roll and Danko delievered tons of rock. Another kick ass show and I strongly recommend Danko Jones live shows because you feel the energy that the "Mango boy delivers".

Followed this amazing band from the days of lovercall etc...i just wish they had more dates when touring in the UK ... keep up the good work.... keep healthy keep coming back to the UK..

ein Mega Live Act!

Die Band hatte super viel Energie und hat richtig gerockt. Live fand ich noch viel besser als im Studio Album. Es gab viel Respekt und gegenseitige Wertschätzung zwischen Band und Publikum. Wenn Danko Jones mal wieder in der Nähe sind , bin ich auf jeden Fall dabei.

Echt hammergeiles konzert hat alles gepasst. Nur ein paar stehtische hätte man im hinteren bereich aufstellen können
