HE’S known for his songs that are littered with explicit lyrics. Performing them used to get him arrested. But what is Kevin Bloody Wilson really like off stage?

KEVIN Bloody Wilson is coming to southeast Queensland for the second of his farewell tours — but he’s far from a dying duck.

He’s not ruling out another comeback gig, or a post-retirement tour after that.

“I’ve got no plans of going quietly. I’m enjoying myself too much,” he said.

The 69-year-old Perth funnyman is known worldwide for his politically incorrect, bawdy songs performed to packed audiences strictly over the age of 18.

Thirty years ago, he was getting arrested for singing these numbers — now he’s being celebrated, with some of his best known works including Living next door to Alan and DILLIGAF .

But not much is known about the man behind the expletives.

Speaking to Kevin comes as a bit of a shock.

The well-modulated, quietly spoken voice at the end of the line sounds like it belongs to Kevin Bloody Normal.

“I’m a bit of a boring bastard,” he explains.

Not boring, just a regular bloke happily married for 46 years to his accountant wife Betty, father of Qantas pilot Travis and mini-me comedienne singer daughter Tammy-Jo, who goes by the name Jenny Talia.

Travis is married with three sons and lives in Perth, Tammy-Jo is married with two daughters and lives in the US.

And Kevin is one very proud dad and grandad.

“There’s me on stage and then there’s me off stage. There is a clear demarcation. And it’s family first, second and third,” he says.

Kevin started off as an electrician on the mines in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, with music as a hobby.

His hobby morphed into a career 32 years ago, with Betty landing the gig of chief organiser: dealing with the concerts, merchandise, the lot.

“I’m still madly in love with the lady,” he says.

Kevin describes himself as a regular Aussie bloke.

When the kids were growing up he did the usual dad things — parent teacher evenings and school sport.

There were one or two exceptions to the wholesome-as-apple-pie lifestyle: “My son was quite entrepreneurial. Once he took one of my cassettes to school and sold them for cigarettes.”

Despite almost hitting 70, Kevin spends a lot of time touring, which he loves, notching up about 120 concerts a year.

He follows a strict health regimen: “No alcohol at all on tour, even if it is three months away.”

But when he’s home, he loves having a beer, walking his dog on the beach and nattering to his mates, often in the bar in the downstairs of his house called DILLIGAF HQ.

He also does what he loves best: writing new material for his shows.

He describes himself as pretty easygoing, both on and off stage.

But one thing gets his goat: “I have very little time for unproductive Australians though, everyone needs to do their bit for Australia.”

It is this love of his country that sees him more proud of being nominated for Australian of the Year in 2010 than of his record sales, which are now nudging the four million mark, with all his CDs and DVDs achieving gold status globally.

And one day when he finally dies, what would he like on his tombstone?

“Can you turn down the heat please,” he said.

“Oh, and I’d like DILLIGAF somewhere there too.”
