Kendamil Organic Baby Formula Review and Analysis

This wholesome and nutritious organic baby formula from Kendamil gets our top rating!

Kendamil is one of the longest-running baby formula companies in Europe, founded in 1962 and sourcing fresh dairy from family farms in the famous Lake District (a UNESCO World Heritage site), and other formula ingredients from local suppliers in Somerset, Kent, and Yorkshire.

Good News!  Kendamil has partnered with the U.S. FDA to deliver Kendamil infant formulas to the US as part of Operation Fly Formula! Kendamil organic is difficult to find in stock at big box stores, and we suggest purchasing it online .

Kendamil has a long and consistent history of producing high-quality formulas, and in 2018 they released their first organic baby formula. And they didn't cut any corners, providing the first whole cream and palm oil-free infant formula on the European market.

The company's innovation and commitment to quality have resulted in several awards, including the Gold Medal from Monde Selection as the best organic baby formula in the world, and the UK's Board of Trade Award.

kendamil baby formula review analysis

As a testament to the trust that British families place in Kendamil, it was used to feed Prince Louis of Cambridge (the son of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge), and received the Royal Queen's Award in 2020!

To review Kendamil organic formulas, we tested them ourselves and consulted with a developmental nutritionist to assess ingredients and nutritional contents relative to USA guidelines.

Spoiler alert, we love Kendamil and are really impressed with all they offer. They truly make zero compromises, providing one of the few whole milk baby formulas on the market (also check out Holle Pre ), and filling it with only the best ingredients for your baby. Not only does Kendamil conform to European (EU), British, and US guidelines, but they go above and beyond with the inclusion of not only fatty acids (DHA, ALA, LA), but also choline, inositol, and amino acids.

As you know from our reviews of organic baby formulas , we rarely say such positive things about any baby product, never mind something you're going to feed your baby on a daily basis!

No Translations Needed!

Because Kendamil is a British company, all of their labels are in English, so no translations are needed.

This is a welcome addition to the organic baby formula market, making it much easier for American parents to know exactly what they are feeding their babies without relying on a vendor's (sometimes poor) translations.

Best Practices?

Kendamil is made in Great Britain using organic Lakes Region whole milk and EU-certified organic ingredients. Kendamil makes several infant and toddler formulas, including the awesome Kendamil Goat milk formula as well.

Relative to the USDA Organic certification process in the USA, the European Union has stricter organic regulations. Once you receive approvals through the extended certification process, you can display the below (center) star leaf icon on your products.

kendamil organic logos

By comparison, Kendamil meets the 98% minimum organic content requirement of the EU requirement, which is a bit more stringent than the 95% minimum organic content requirement of the USDA's certification process.

What are the EU's organic regulations?

While Kendamil is made in Great Britain which is not part of the European Union, they do sell their products throughout the EU and therefore must conform to broader EU organic requirements.

Fortunately for you, the EU has a very strict system of organic controls, including a rigorous annual inspection process to verify continuing conformance.

Here are the specific organic regulatory criteria for the EU certification process:

  • No protecting plants by using synthetic chemicals such as herbicides or pesticides.
  • No use of soluble mineral fertilizers.
  • No application of chemical growth regulators.
  • Feeding animals with farm-grown feed, not purchased feed, when possible.
  • No use of antibiotics other than to treat an infection.

Kendamil goes a bit further and only sources their dairy ingredients from within Great Britain, decreasing the risk that any foreign suppliers are not meeting their relatively stringent requirements.

The Kendamil formulas are EU certified by the Soil Association Certification, Ltd, bearing the label GB-ORG-05. Soil Association Certification, Ltd, is a registered organic certification body, located in Bristol, UK.

Kendamil Formula Ingredients

Kendamil formulas contain very high-quality ingredients and go beyond British, EU, and US requirements to include Omega fatty acids, amino acids, inositol, choline, and naturally occurring MFGM (more on that later).

The use of locally sourced ingredients from the Lake District and other local regions will provide some intangible benefits for the quality of their infant and toddler formulas. While these benefits may not appear on an ingredients label, this usually means that there is a lower risk of the products containing all the nasty stuff you don't want to occur (even in trace amounts), like pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics, or heavy metals.

Here are the ingredients in each of the Kendamil baby formulas (note that the image may be slightly different from the below text, please use the text as the more definitive source):

nestig cloud crib

Here are some ingredients that we did not find in any stages of Kendamil: food starch, maltodextrin, corn syrup or corn syrup solids, palm oil, artificial colors, artificial flavors, preservatives, sucrose, soy, gluten, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), carrageenan, or high fructose corn syrup.

Some ingredients to highlight:  There weren't any ingredients we were unhappy with, but here are a few things that stood out:

Natural MFGM : This is milk fat globule membrane, which is a natural membrane that surrounds the tiny bits of fat in real breast milk. Why should you care about this membrane? Research shows that it is correlated with healthy brain development and cognitive outcomes (see references).

Prebiotics via GOS : This is galactooligosaccharides, which are dietary prebiotics that help promote a healthy gut microbiome through benefits to intestinal microbiota and gut barrier function. Research shows that the prebiotics in infant formula are beneficial for digestion and reducing the rates of gas and colic (and they are more effective than probiotics, see references).

Plant-based DHA Omega 3 : Docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA, is commonly sourced from fish. While some parents don't mind this, some prefer a vegetarian option, and some with very sensitive noses don't appreciate smelling a hint of fish oil in their baby formula. Kendamil uses a plant-based DHA, sourced from algae (this is how fish get DHA into their bodies too because algae are in their food chain).

1. Kendamil Stage 1 versus Stage 2: There are two main differences between Kendamil Stages 1 and 2. First, Stage 2 adds in a bit of extra lactose sourced from milk, which gives it a bit higher lactose content (about 6% more, in grams per serving) than Stage 1. Second, Stage 2 removes choline, inositol, and the amino acid L-carnitine, and adds in a tiny bit of fluoride. Stage 1 is intended for birth to 6 months, and Stage 2 is for 6-12 months.

2. Kendamil Stage 2 versus Stage 3: There are three main differences between Kendamil Stages 2 and 3. First, Stage 3 removes the whey protein powder, though the protein content actually increases relative to Stage 2 likely due to a compensatory increase in the whole milk and lactose content. Second, Stage 3 adds a tiny bit of salt and removes the fluoride found in Stage 2. Third, Stage 3 removes the Mortierella alpina, which is a source of EPA (an Omega fatty acid). Stage 2 is intended for 6-12 months, and Stage 3 is for 12-36 months.

Nutritional Analysis

To examine whether Kendamil baby formulas come close to the stringent US nutritional recommendations put forth by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA, see references), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), we consulted with a dietician nutritionist with expertise in infant feeding.

Note that the US FDA also publishes minimum infant formula nutritional requirements (see references), but all of the Kendamil formulas meet these published standards (this is why they are approved for sale in the U.S.), and they are only relevant for 0-6 months. Because the Kendamil formulas already meet the FDA minimum requirements, we used the more general USDA daily intake recommendations as a guideline.

The USDA does not publish recommended daily allowances (RDAs) for infants between 0-6 months. Instead, they publish information about Adequate Intake (AI), which is used when there is not enough evidence to make a formal RDA. The AI is set at a level assumed to provide nutritional adequacy.

Here are the USDA's AIs (per day) for infants aged 0-6 months, and 6-12 months. Units are grams (g), milligrams (mg), and micrograms (μg).

USDA Nutritional Recommendations:

Given that the Stage 1 Kendamil formula is intended for use from birth to 6 months, we evaluated its nutritional content against the USDA 0-6 month recommendations. For the Stage 2 and 3 versions, we evaluated against the USDA 6-12 month recommendations.

Because the USDA recommendations are for daily intake, we considered the daily intake recommended by Kendamil in their "Feeding Guide." Stage 1 suggests an average of about 110 grams of formula per day for the first 6 months; of course, this is lower (about 80 grams) for the first month, then increases with age to over 120g/day.

To derive an estimate of how much nutritional content a baby would receive each day when using Kendamil organic Stage 1, we used the average recommended serving for the first 6 months (about 110 grams of formula per day). This will overestimate nutrients in early months, and underestimate them for later months.

As you will see from our analysis, this isn't cause for much concern.

Does Kendamil Stage 1 Meet USDA Nutritional Recommendations?

In general, yes, very similar to US-made baby formulas. Here is a table comparing the USDA recommendation for 0-6 months to what the Kendamil Stage 1 provides (in about 110g of formula):

Notice how close all of those numbers are to each other, with Kendamil meeting or exceeding all USDA nutritional recommendations. The fat is slightly lower than USDA guidance, which is very common in European baby formulas. Specifically, European formulas tend to have slightly higher protein and slightly lower fat than American baby formulas.

USDA guidance for fat is 31g per day, which precisely matches how much fat is in breast milk (about 4.2g per 100mL, or 30.8g per 100g). Kendamil comes in at about 30g/day, which is actually higher than most European baby formulas such as Loulouka , HiPP Combiotic , or Holle Stage 1 .

We compared the Kendamil Stage 1 nutritional profile with the most popular Similac and Enfamil (American) formulas. Note that those are usually slightly low relative to those USDA recommendations (Similac and Enfamil are usually around 27g of fat per 100g of formula).

In other words, Kendamil Stage 1 provides an overall nutritional profile similar to the major American baby formula brands.

Does Kendamil Stage 2 Meet USDA Nutritional Recommendations?

In looking at the USDA recommendations for infants 6-12 months of age, you realize that they recommend about 140-150g/day of formula. That equates to about 32 scoops (4.6g/scoop) per day, which is about 960mL per day of the prepared Stage 2 formula. Clearly, that's a ton of formula and unlikely to be the case with your 6-12 month-old baby, since you'll likely be supplementing formula with at least some oatmeal and/or rice cereal.

Here is a table comparing the USDA recommendation for 6-12 months to what the Kendamil Stage 2 provides (in 150g of formula):

For Stage 2, the Kendamil comes in over the protein and fat recommendations of USDA, and slightly under the carbohydrate recommendation. In other words, the Stage 2 formula is shifting towards a higher protein and fat diet, with lower sugars.

From 0-6 months to 6-12 months, the USDA shifts the relative proportion of carbohydrates up, and proteins and fats down. This is a difference in European versus American feeding recommendations, with proportions shifting in opposite directions as babies move from Stage 1 to Stage 2.

Which is the right guideline to follow? Our opinion is that the EU standards are more in line with current research, whereas the USDA guidelines are relatively dated. But that's just an opinion, and research is constantly changing!

Does Kendamil Stage 3 Meet USDA Nutritional Recommendations?

As with Stage 2, we use the USDA 6-12 month recommendations. Stage 3 is always a difficult comparison to make because your child will also be eating many first foods (oatmeal and rice cereals, purees) by the time they are 12+ months. Those solid foods will complement any feeding done with a Stage 3 formula, making any estimates of formula quantity to fulfill the caloric needs of a 12+ month-old baby a bit unreasonable.

For example, to get 145g/day of Stage 3 formula, that would take about 31 scoops of the product, and over 1000mL of prepared formula per day (about 5 servings). That's pretty excessive! More reasonably, your child will be consuming about 2-3 servings of Stage 3, along with a couple of servings of cereals and purees.

In any event, here is what Kendamil Stage 3 provides, at a 150g/day serving:

In terms of macronutrients (proteins, fats, carbohydrates), you'll notice that Stage 3 is very similar to Stage 2 in its nutritional composition and proportions. In general, it meets USDA recommendations but prioritizes proteins and fats rather than carbohydrates, which is the opposite of the American tendency to prioritize carbohydrates over proteins and fats.

In 2020, the EU passed (well, it was passed in 2016, but enforcement started in February 2020) a requirement that baby formulas include Omega-3, and this is a new addition to most European formulas. This is why you see DHA and ALA appearing in new European formulas.

european baby formulas omega 3 dha requirement law

Most parents begin to introduce solid foods in addition to formula or breastfeeding. These usually first include rice and/or oatmeal cereals, and then progress to fruit and vegetable purees. These will complement the nutrition found solely in the formula, including additional iron and carbohydrates.

Some parents might be interested to learn that many European baby formulas contain trace levels of fluoride. This is not added by the manufacturer, but appears in trace amounts (e.g., <0.015mg per 100mL prepared formula) due to the water used during manufacturing. For Kendamil, this only occurs in Stage 2. This level of fluoride is equivalent to about 0.15 mg of fluoride in a liter of prepared formula, which is much less than found in bottled water (about 0.4mg per liter), and way less than found in fluoridated tap water (about 5mg per liter).

Testing in Infants

Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3 varieties of Kendamil were donated to us for testing.

We tested Stage 1 in a 2-month-old formula-fed baby (he typically feeds with Similac) and a 4-month-old breast-fed baby (mom has supplemented only twice with formula). The 4-month-old's mom reports difficulties with constipation when attempting to use formula.

We tested Stage 2 in an 8-month-old formula-fed baby, and Stage 3 in two toddlers, one 15 months and one 17 months.

Mixing and Taste-Testing

The Kendamil mixes very easily with warm water and doesn't leave any film or residue after preparing the bottle. See the picture below, worth a thousand words, showing that we didn't experience any clumping, bubbling, or excessive foaming during or after mixing the formula. And did you notice how there is no residue on the inside walls of the bottle? We love to see that!

While we're showcasing Stage 1 in the picture, all three stages are mixed very nicely with water. To prepare the formula, we followed the instructions: boil water and leave it to cool for about 10 minutes (corresponding to about 99 degrees F), add the correct number of leveled scoops of formula (using the convenient straight-edge in the container to level the scoops!), close the bottle cap and shake until the formula is dissolved. Then, put a nipple on the bottle, cool it to 37 degrees C (about 99 deg F), and feed.

In terms of texture and taste, we found it to be very rich and creamy, a lot like the Holle Pre (which also uses whole milk). When we tried it ourselves, it tasted very sweet likely due to the high lactose content.

It has very good flow through slow-flow or medium-flow nipples.

kendamil baby formula mixing preparation

Notice how the bubbles and foam settled very nicely after mixing and sitting for about 10 minutes to cool to around 99deg F. Want to learn more about that PopYum bottle? Check out our list of the Best Baby Bottles of the year .

By the way, the tins that Kendamil comes in are amazing and so much easier than the classic cardboard containers, with a flip-top lid and flat inside edge so you can level off the scoops of formula - nice touch!

Safety First: Never prepare powdered formula with anything but water. If you're interested in fortifying your breast milk with formula you must ask your doctor for guidance first, as this can be very dangerous for your baby.

Feeding with Kendamil

The three infants and two toddlers all seemed to take to Kendamil very quickly. None of them rejected it or seemed displeased with it, even the 4-month-old breastfed baby.

All of them seemed to like the taste and the bottle-fed babies and toddlers drank their usual amount or more.

The breastfed baby did develop a bit of gas after, which the mom says is common whenever she's tried formula in the past. We suggested that if she's inclined to continue trying formulas, to attempt one with probiotics to aid digestion, such as the HiPP Combiotik formulas . Note that the UK does not allow infant formulas to contain probiotics, which is why both Kendamil and the UK HiPP Combiotic do not contain them.

None of the other babies or toddlers developed any noticeable gas relative to their usual post-feeding burps. The same goes for constipation and bowel movements, which the parents reported proceeded as usual after feeding a few times with Kendamil formulas.

Both toddlers we tested are already eating a ton of finger foods and purees, so there's no real need for formula, but the parents kept the Stage 2 and 3 tins and will use the rest since their toddlers seem to enjoy the flavor, and it's filling.

This was our first time trying out the Kendamil organic baby formulas, and we were really excited to give them a shot.

The organic baby formula market is expanding rapidly, especially in the European market, but it's challenging to compete with companies like HiPP and Holle having ruled this market for several decades.

European baby formulas are becoming increasingly common in the US, as parents look to the EU to find high-quality, organic baby formulas that they can trust (and afford!).

Overall, we are happy to report that we're excited by several aspects of the Kendamil formulas. Whole milk baby formulas, especially beyond Stage 1, are extremely rare and we're happy to see that Kendamil is holding onto this tradition while most other companies are shifting to skimmed milk. We love that Kendamil is also ahead of EU regulations by including not only Omega 3 but also Omega 6 in their formulas (only Omega 3 in DHA form is required at this point in EU), and also including choline, inositol, and amino acids.

We also love that Kendamil provides very specific and comprehensive labeling for nutritional content, including information regarding the relative proportions of lactose and other carbohydrates. All three stages are lactose-heavy (Stage 1 gets 92% of its carbohydrates from lactose), just like breastmilk. Lactose is also in good quantity in Stages 2 and 3.

The only thing we thought could be improved upon is perhaps the addition of probiotics to aid with digestion in infants with more sensitive tummies, though the UK does not allow these in its formulas.

Overall, the nutritional profile of Kendamil was excellent, coming in near or above FDA and USDA guidelines, which was nice to see and made us feel comfortable using this to not only supplement but also possibly replace breast milk entirely (talk to your doctor first, of course!).

In terms of mixing, taste, and acceptance, the Kendamil formulas were surprisingly similar to breastmilk with a bit more thickness and flavor, and overall acceptance rates were exceptional.

Expensive? Yes. All baby formula is expensive, and Kendamil and other European formula brands are among the most expensive on the market.

In general, HiPP, Loulouka, and Kendamil are not only the best European baby formulas on the market (in our opinion), but also the most expensive at about 6.5 cents per gram. Lebenswert tends to be a bit less expensive, around 5.8 cents per gram, and Topfer tends to be the cheapest at about 4 cents per gram.

Where to Buy Kendamil?

Over the past 10+ years of operating Mommyhood101, we have worked with several companies that import and resell European baby formulas in the United States.

Most of the companies have come and gone, some were pushed out by new FDA labeling requirements for European formulas, and some couldn't maintain their supply chain logistics and tended to ship expired or poorly handled formulas.

One of the only places to purchase Kendamil online in the USA is at the popular website The Milky Box , which sells a huge variety of formulas to US customers and has some of the best prices.

Not only that, but they have free and super fast shipping! Click this link to use our The Milky Box coupon code: mommyhood101 for a 5% discount !

Kendamil Baby Formula – Options, Ingredients, Safety & More

One year later, browsing the aisle for infant formula at Target has become a noticeably different experience than before.

Between the demands of the formula shortage and the results of Operation Fly Formula, the options and availability of formulas vary from day to day.

One of the new formulas that you may have seen on the shelves of your local Target store is Kendamil, a European formula that has recently begun to be imported into the US.

What is Kendamil? Is it safe for my child?

Is Kendamil FDA approved? Kendamil does meet the FDA requirements regarding nutrients and quality and is considered perfectly safe and healthy for babies. While laws and regulations concerning food apply to baby formula, the FDA does not grant approval for any infant formulas before they can be marketed.

I did a bunch of research on baby formula before our twins were born. I knew I wanted to breastfeed but wanted to have a high-quality supplement.

After countless hours of research, I decided on Kendamil’s infant formula and couldn’t be happier with the decision. Here’s some of what I discovered.

Kendamil Formula – What To Know

While Kendamil is relatively new to Target shelves, it has been around for over 60 years in Europe. Kendamil is the only British-owned formula company and is based out of the English Lake District.

Specializing in high-quality infant milk, organic formula, and goat milk formula, it has spanned across Europe and is even the formula of choice for the royal family.

Is Kendamil Formula Good?

Kendamil formula is used widely in Europe and is quickly growing in popularity in the US. Something about this formula must be good!

Personally, I have never used the formula for my children. However, I have done extensive research, and there seem to be a lot of good things about this formula.

Not only does it contain high-quality ingredients that your growing baby needs, but several reviews also compliment the taste and texture of the milk.

Because of its whole-milk base, Kendamil is creamy and rich with a sweet taste that many little ones love.

Is Kendamil Formula Safe?

In a nutshell, yes, Kendamil is perfectly safe for your baby.

The ingredient list for Kendamil formula is very reassuring for parents as it is stocked full of high-quality, whole, and pure ingredients.

You can rest assured knowing Kendamil is free from preservatives, corn syrups, artificial flavors and colors, gluten, and GMOs.

Because the ingredients are sourced from local farms, Kendamil is created from much purer products than most other formulas on the market.

With an exclusive natural mammal fat source, Kendamil is free from palm and vegetable oils that often contribute to the malabsorption of calcium and fats as well as constipation in infants.

Utilizing a plant-based DHA from marine algae rather than fish oil eliminates a possible allergen that is common in most other infant formulas.

Kendamil offers MFGM, an important protein contained in breast milk, as well as high levels of DHA. Both of these support brain and cognitive development.

Kendamil formula also contains HMO prebiotics that offer many health benefits for your baby’s gut.

Kendamil Formula Ingredients

What’s in the formula that their baby is drinking is the most important thing to parents, and the makers of Kendamil understand that.

They prioritize using very high-quality ingredients with whole milk being the very first ingredient in their formulas.

The remaining ingredients are equally as promising and go beyond British and US requirements to include Omega fatty acids, amino acids, inositol, choline, and naturally occurring MFGM, all of which are important for your little one’s cognitive development.

Additionally, the use of locally sourced ingredients reduces the risk of contamination by pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics, and heavy metals.

Look here to find out how Kendamil’s ingredients compare to other leading US infant formulas.

Kendamil and FDA Regulations

All formulas marketed in the US, including imports, must meet federal nutrient requirements. Kendamil meets or exceeds all of the USDA nutritional recommendations.

Europe has slightly different nutrient standards than the US, and because Kendamil is a European formula, it does vary slightly from the typical US standards.

For example, Stage 2 and Stage 3 formulas prioritize proteins and fats rather than carbohydrates. This is a European tendency that is different from the US.

Is it better or worse? That is more of a personal preference. Research is constantly changing, but regardless, Kendamil is considered safe and nutritious by FDA regulations.

Kendamil offers a variety of infant formulas. Stages for infant formula (1-3) are more prevalent in Europe than in the US, so Kendamil has formula options for all 3 stages.

Each is available in their classic, organic, or goat milk options.

Kendamil Organic Formula

All of the ingredients in the Organic formula are identical to those in the Classic formula; however, the origin of these ingredients is what is different between the two.

The organic ingredients are all sourced from entirely organic farms. Everything about organic farms is different from regular farms — the land, the feed, and the way the animals are treated.

The organic formula is available for infants in Stages 1, 2, and 3.

Kendamil Stage 1

The Stage 1 formula is designed with infants from birth to the age of 12 months in mind. It contains all of the nutrients that infants in that age group need to thrive.

Kendamil Stage 2

Stage 2 is an optional formula for infants beginning at the age of 6 months.

It is perfectly healthy for them to continue on Stage 1 formula; however, Stage 2 has a slightly different whey-to-casein protein ratio that is designed to reflect the changes in breast milk composition.

Stage 2 contains higher lactose and less fat and is geared toward helping little ones prepare for weaning.

Kendamil Stage 3

Stage 3 formula is for infants starting at the age of 12 months. Its starch, nutrient, and energy content are different to cater to the needs and demands of highly energetic toddlers.

This formula is great for filling in the gaps in a new solid food diet .

Kendamil Goat Formula

Kendamil has a dairy-free option for babies who have a dairy allergy or sensitivity.

Their goat milk formula is made of full cream A2 whole goat milk, goat (not cow) whey powder, and plant-based DHA to maintain a vegetarian ingredients list.

The goat milk formula does still have lactose in it, so, therefore, it is not suitable for a baby with lactose intolerance.

Are Any Baby Formulas FDA Approved?

What many people do not know is that the FDA does not approve any infant formulas before they are marketed.

They do review them, however, as all infant formulas must meet the minimum nutrition requirements and comply with FDA regulations in order to be marketed on shelves.

FDA Infant Formula Regulations

The FDA has a list of requirements relating to nutrient content, quantity, and quality control that all infant formula manufacturers are familiar with. All infant formulas that are marketed must comply with these regulations.

After the processing of a new formula but before marketing, the manufacturers or distributors of the formula must submit a written verification to the FDA that demonstrates that the formula complies with all of the requirements.

A summary of the test results of nutrients in the formula is also required. You can find more information about these regulations on the FDA website.

How To Choose Baby Formula

Since all babies have different needs and sensitivities, there is no “perfect”  or “one-size-fits-all” baby formula out there.

Unfortunately, it is usually a game of trial and error to find the one that works for your baby. There are some things to do and consider, however, to make your search easier.

  • Talk with your baby’s pediatrician and ask for recommendations specific to your baby’s needs.
  • Do your own research about the ingredients and processing of baby formulas.

Related Questions:

When to switch to stage 2 formula  .

Stage 2 formula is simply an option . Your baby will be perfectly fine on Stage 1 formula for the entire first year of his life.

If you do wish to switch based on your little one’s needs or if your pediatrician recommends more nutrients for your baby, it is generally recommended to switch around 6 months.

What’s the Difference Between Stage 2 and Stage 3 Formula?

Stage 3 formula is more commonly known as “toddler formula” as it is designed to meet the increasing demands of energetic toddlers that are on a primarily solid food diet.

Stage 3 formulas often contain higher energy, nutrient, and starch contents suitable for a more developed digestive system.

Parents in this day and age are fortunate to have an abundance of high-quality infant formulas available to meet their baby’s needs.

Kendamil formula is an excellent choice for a nutrient-rich formula with the highest-quality ingredients. Because of this, it is quickly becoming just as well-loved in the US as it is in Europe.

I’m so happy we found Kendamil formula for our boys. They’ve taken really well to it and have had zero issues ( I supplement breastmilk with Kendamil ).

Choosing the right formula for your baby isn’t something that should be taken lightly. Do your own research so you’re confident with the choice you make.

President Biden Announces Twenty-Second Operation Fly Formula Mission

Biden Administration will facilitate air shipment of approximately 1.5 million 8-ounce bottle equivalents of Kendamil infant formula from September 1 to 5

Today, President Biden is announcing that his Administration is sourcing four flights, facilitated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), for Operation Fly Formula to transport Kendamil baby formula from England to New York, NY via flights from September 1 to 5. These four deliveries will include in total approximately 101,335 pounds of Kendamil EU Organic First Infant Milk Stage 1, the equivalent of approximately 1.5 million 8-ounce bottles. The product will be available at Target stores nationwide. Parents and pediatricians can learn more about Kendamil infant formula at https://us.kendamil.com and compare its nutritional content per 100kcal with other leading baby formula brands at https://us.kendamil.com/pages/compare-kendamil . In May, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that the agency is exercising enforcement discretion so that Kendamil can export additional infant formula into the U.S., including Kendamil EU Classic First Infant Milk Stage 1 and Kendamil EU Organic First Infant Milk Stage 1. Kendamil plans to export approximately 58 million 8-ounce bottle equivalents to the U.S. market under Operation Fly Formula.  President Biden launched Operation Fly Formula to speed up the import of infant formula and start getting more formula to stores as soon as possible. Under Operation Fly Formula, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the General Services Administration (GSA), and the Department of Defense (DOD) are partnering to pick up overseas infant formula that meets U.S. health and safety standards, so it can get to store shelves faster. By September 5, Operation Fly Formula will have transported more than 85 million 8-ounce bottle equivalents to the U.S. In addition, the Biden Administration has taken a number of other important actions to ensure there is enough safe infant formula for families, including invoking the Defense Production Act, entering into a consent agreement between the FDA and Abbott Nutrition to reopen the company’s Sturgis facility, and issuing FDA guidance so that major formula manufacturers can safely import formula that is not currently being produced for the U.S. market. Details of our actions can be found at whitehouse.gov/formula .

Kendamil Goat Milk Formula

Kendamil has been working diligently to expand their product line and is now offering Kendamil Goat Milk as an alternative option to their cow milk formulas.

The naturally occurring oligosaccharides in goat milk formula allows for natural prebiotics and anti-infection properties. Goat's milk is known to be easier on digestion as it creates a softer curd when it reacts with baby's stomach acid. The softer, looser curd from goat milk formula makes it an excellent choice for babies with digestion issues.

Lastly, goat's milk is strictly A2. Cow’s milk contains an allergen in the 67th position of the A1 beta casein protein; A2 milk naturally omits the histidine at position 67, which makes the milk now easily digested and absorbed by infants.

Multiple Certifications

Kendamil takes their company values with responsibility. In fact, the parent company Kendal Nutricare was awarded The Board of Trade Award which recognizes "businesses who have made an outstanding contribution to international trade within their region."

Formulas are exported under the following accreditations:

  • BRA Grade AA
  • Halal Certification
  • Soil Association Certification
  • CDFA Certification
  • Health & Safety Certification
  • International ISO 14001
  • Certified Kosher

Each one of these organizations must mandate multiple quality checks to ensure company transparency. Furthermore, each accreditation ensures all formulas are organic and safe for infants.

You can have a peace of mind knowing Kendamil follows all these guidelines and more!

Wholesome Ingredients

No matter how fancy the packaging is, the ingredients are what matter the most.

With Kendamil , the proof is in the pudding, as they have some of the BEST ingredients when compared to other brands.

With zero corn starch, maltodextrin, GMOs, soy, nuts, wheat, and gluten.

All infants can enjoy the amazing benefits that come with Kendamil! Makes a perfect formula for those with allergies, sensitivities, and tummy troubles.

Kendamil is also Certified Kosher and Halal!

No Palm Oil

We have saved the best for last—the fact Kendamil contains zero palm oil!

Even brands such as HiPP and Holle contain a small percentage of palm oil. Brands such as Kendamil that opt from the use of palm oil are providing only the best standards.

Why is palm oil harmful?   This is because regularly eating meals that contain palm oil can increase ‘bad’ lipoprotein cholesterol.

This is known to be dangerous in both children and adults. To prevent your baby from developing pre-set health conditions, such as heart disease, stay away from it.

Need another reason to avoid palm oil? There is plenty of research that shows the use of palm oil in infant formula led to reduced bone mineralization in infants!

For those who care about the earth, palm oil is also destroying forests. Kendamil Organic cares about infant health and the environment, so they steer clear from palm oil.

If you care about your baby’s health and long-term wellbeing, stay away from palm oil.

Kendamil Ingredients

Now that we have overviewed Kendamil as a company, let’s take a deeper look into the nutritional information.

Carbohydrates in Infant Formula

kendamil formula travel size

One of the three macros, carbs, provide your baby with energy and nutrients essential for growth.

Deciding on a baby formula can be difficult, but make sure the carb source is healthy.

The best carbohydrate source is lactose, as it is easier for infants to digest and full of protein.

American formulas tend to skimp on the carb source, using cheap fillers instead. These harmful fillers can create a fake sense of fullness and cause digestion troubles.

A 2020 New York Times article highlighting that young children raised on Whole Milk are 39% less likely to be overweight relative to those children raised on skimmed milk.

Kendamil’s main source of carbs is whole lactose, naturally sourced from their grass-fed cows’ milk. Another reason to love Kendamil formulas !

Protein in Infant Formula

Health nuts, doctors, and your mother-in-law probably have this one thing in common. They cannot talk enough about how important protein is in a baby’s diet!

While this is true, the quality of the protein is more important than the quantity.

When it comes to finding the perfect, nutritious formula, choose one with lactose as the main protein source.

As previously mentioned, it is easier for infants to digest. Also, lactose from cow’s milk contains naturally occurring prebiotics and probiotics for digestion.

kendamil formula travel size

By choosing lactose as the main protein source, Kendamil Formula provides only the best nutrition.

kendamil formula travel size

While fad diets may claim the dangers of fat, they are not true.

Fat is essential in all babies’ diets and helps them to grow up strong.

Finding a healthy source of fat is important though, as this will make or break your infant’s longevity.

The worst formulas are loaded with trans and saturated fats. These two unhealthy fats can preset heart disease, diabetes, and obesity in children.

To help your baby thrive and grow, choose a formula with lactose and the right vegetable oils - like coconut oil instead of palm oil.

Kendamil Organic uses just the right amount to support tissue growth and brain development. With a low saturated fat content, and the use of organic vegetable oils, Kendamil uses only the best!

Prebiotics + Probiotics

Both prebiotics and probiotics support digestion and healthy gut bacteria. Some EU Organic formulas do not contain any added pre or probiotics (such as Holle .)

Kendamil understands the importance of digestion in such a young stage in your child’s life. This is why they add the perfect number of prebiotics into formulas, using cow's milk - Prebiotic GOS is used in Kendamil Organic.

Probiotics are unfortunately not permitted by the British Soil Association, the UK Organic Body that oversees organic certification (and is even more strict than Europe, where HiPP is regulated). As a result, Kendamil Organic is only permitted to include prebiotic GOS.

If your baby struggles with digestion, this formula may be the perfect option!

DHA & ARA

DHA (Omega-3) and ARA (Omega-6) essential fatty acids are vital for infant growth. These two super fats support brain, muscle, and eye growth. Also, they aid immune function and nerve function.

Many parents are concerned about the hexane-extraction process used to obtain DHA and ARA. Kendamil is fully-aware of this concern, which is why their process avoids this harmful technique.

DHA-rich Algal Oil is released physically from the wet biomass and separated from the water phase by decanting. No solvents are in use for this ingredient, thus extraction solvents are not present.

Furthermore, Kendamil contains both DHA & ARA that is fish oil free to support infant growth using natural, organic ingredients.

Grass-fed Milk

kendamil formula travel size

All milk in Kendamil Formula is sourced organic and sustainably. Cows are grass-fed and treated with high standards.

All EU Organic certified formulas never include hormones, steroids, antibiotics, GMOs, or additives.

The quality of the milk used is extremely important and typically overlooked. Whatever nutrients the cows eat and substances they are exposed to are transferred into the milk product.

To keep the milk at a premium quality, Kendamil sources their milk from top-notch sources.

Another great advantage of Kendamil's milk? Clinical research demonstrates improved neuro-developmental outcomes associated with bovine milk fat globule membrane (MFGM). MFGM is naturally occurring in Kendamil due to their unique full cream recipe! Who wouldn't want healthier and smarter babies

What isn't in Kendamil?

Now that we know what’s in Kendamil Formula, let’s see what they do not include.

  • With Kendamil, you say goodbye to GMOs and chemicals!
  • What are GMOs?   Genetically Modified Ingredients (GMOs) are harmful produce and animal products. These ingredients are injected with chemicals to grow bigger and faster.
  • GMOs are only for the farmers gain and disregards health.
  • Kendamil respects your infant’s health more than their profit. GMOs, hormones, steroids, and growth additives are never in Kendamil Formulas.
  • Stay away from soy ! Soy is known to   damage the development of brain and nerve cells in infants. This is because soy causes a zinc deficiency in children, thus preventing optimal brain health.
  • For those wondering, even organic soy can be problematic.
  • Kendamil acknowledges science, therefore they never include soy products or traces in formulas.
  • A heavily controversial ingredient, palm oil, is never found in Kendamil formulas.
  • The high saturated fats in palm oil can cause health complications and destroys the environment. Even popular EU Organic brands, such as HiPP and Holle , contain small traces of palm oil.
  • Kendamil Formula contains 0% palm oil, to protect your baby.
  • An allergen-inducing ingredient, fish oil, is never found in Kendamil formulas.
  • The use of DHA/ARA in EU formulas is mandated by law, and with this, Kendamil kept their formulas free from fish oil, while also meeting the standards. Popular EU Organic brands, such as HiPP and Holle , may contain small traces of fish oil.
  • Kendamil Formula contains 0% fish oil, to protect your baby.
  • Some babies suffer from gluten intolerance and digestion issues. Additionally, some sources claim wheat and gluten is bad for all, regardless of intolerances.
  • No matter which side of the gluten argument you are on, Kendamil contains zero gluten. This is makes it an excellent allergy-friendly option for mothers and babies.
  • Another common allergy, nuts, is removed from formulas.
  • No tree nuts of any kind are used for the fat source. Rather, healthy vegetable oils are used to provide supported digestion.
  • Most American formula brands are sugar bombs! Not only does this destroy your babies’ body, immune system, and wellbeing—but it can create a fake sense of fullness.
  • With Kendamil, their wholesome selection of ingredients contains natural sugars to provide energy. No added sugars are to be found in this wonderful formula option.
  • Along with added sugars, US formula brands have the tendency to label sugar under hidden names.
  • Maltodextrin is a fancy word that most will overlook on the nutritional label. When, in fact, maltodextrin is sugar in disguise.
  • It is no better or has any proven benefits when compared to sugar. It is simply a filler that companies add to trick consumers.
  • Don’t be fooled! Kendamil is a reliable company and never contains maltodextrin or hidden sugar.
  • Starch is another harmful filler ingredient that is linked to health issues. With a high glycemic index and no nutritional value—it is useless.
  • Kendamil Organic contains no starch to provide longevity to your baby and give them many healthful years in the future. The first months of infancy and toddlerhood should never be overlooked. By supporting your child’s health now, you are helping them in the long run.
  • Kendamil focuses on nutrition to provide the tastiest, starch-free formula.
  • This one might come as a no-brainer. I mean who wants chemicals in their baby’s formula? But companies have a way to hide everything.
  • Many ingredients in formulas are battered in chemicals to grow bigger and quicker. As we mentioned with GMOs, chemicals are pure poison for infants.
  • Kendamil contains zero traces of chemicals so you can relax knowing your baby gets the wholesome nutrients they deserve.

In Transit: Notes from the Underground

Jun 06 2018.

Spend some time in one of Moscow’s finest museums.

Subterranean commuting might not be anyone’s idea of a good time, but even in a city packing the war-games treasures and priceless bejeweled eggs of the Kremlin Armoury and the colossal Soviet pavilions of the VDNKh , the Metro holds up as one of Moscow’s finest museums. Just avoid rush hour.

The Metro is stunning and provides an unrivaled insight into the city’s psyche, past and present, but it also happens to be the best way to get around. Moscow has Uber, and the Russian version called Yandex Taxi , but also some nasty traffic. Metro trains come around every 90 seconds or so, at a more than 99 percent on-time rate. It’s also reasonably priced, with a single ride at 55 cents (and cheaper in bulk). From history to tickets to rules — official and not — here’s what you need to know to get started.

A Brief Introduction Buying Tickets Know Before You Go (Down) Rules An Easy Tour

A Brief Introduction

Moscow’s Metro was a long time coming. Plans for rapid transit to relieve the city’s beleaguered tram system date back to the Imperial era, but a couple of wars and a revolution held up its development. Stalin revived it as part of his grand plan to modernize the Soviet Union in the 1920s and 30s. The first lines and tunnels were constructed with help from engineers from the London Underground, although Stalin’s secret police decided that they had learned too much about Moscow’s layout and had them arrested on espionage charges and deported.

The beauty of its stations (if not its trains) is well-documented, and certainly no accident. In its illustrious first phases and particularly after the Second World War, the greatest architects of Soviet era were recruited to create gleaming temples celebrating the Revolution, the USSR, and the war triumph. No two stations are exactly alike, and each of the classic showpieces has a theme. There are world-famous shrines to Futurist architecture, a celebration of electricity, tributes to individuals and regions of the former Soviet Union. Each marble slab, mosaic tile, or light fixture was placed with intent, all in service to a station’s aesthetic; each element, f rom the smallest brass ear of corn to a large blood-spattered sword on a World War II mural, is an essential part of the whole.

kendamil formula travel size

The Metro is a monument to the Soviet propaganda project it was intended to be when it opened in 1935 with the slogan “Building a Palace for the People”. It brought the grand interiors of Imperial Russia to ordinary Muscovites, celebrated the Soviet Union’s past achievements while promising its citizens a bright Soviet future, and of course, it was a show-piece for the world to witness the might and sophistication of life in the Soviet Union.

It may be a museum, but it’s no relic. U p to nine million people use it daily, more than the London Underground and New York Subway combined. (Along with, at one time, about 20 stray dogs that learned to commute on the Metro.)

In its 80+ year history, the Metro has expanded in phases and fits and starts, in step with the fortunes of Moscow and Russia. Now, partly in preparation for the World Cup 2018, it’s also modernizing. New trains allow passengers to walk the entire length of the train without having to change carriages. The system is becoming more visitor-friendly. (There are helpful stickers on the floor marking out the best selfie spots .) But there’s a price to modernity: it’s phasing out one of its beloved institutions, the escalator attendants. Often they are middle-aged or elderly women—“ escalator grandmas ” in news accounts—who have held the post for decades, sitting in their tiny kiosks, scolding commuters for bad escalator etiquette or even bad posture, or telling jokes . They are slated to be replaced, when at all, by members of the escalator maintenance staff.

For all its achievements, the Metro lags behind Moscow’s above-ground growth, as Russia’s capital sprawls ever outwards, generating some of the world’s worst traffic jams . But since 2011, the Metro has been in the middle of an ambitious and long-overdue enlargement; 60 new stations are opening by 2020. If all goes to plan, the 2011-2020 period will have brought 125 miles of new tracks and over 100 new stations — a 40 percent increase — the fastest and largest expansion phase in any period in the Metro’s history.

Buying Tickets

  • Ticket machines have a button to switch to English.
  • You can buy specific numbers of rides: 1, 2, 5, 11, 20, or 60. Hold up fingers to show how many rides you want to buy.
  • There is also a 90-minute ticket , which gets you 1 trip on the metro plus an unlimited number of transfers on other transport (bus, tram, etc) within 90 minutes.
  • Or, you can buy day tickets with unlimited rides: one day (218₽/ US$4), three days (415₽/US$7) or seven days (830₽/US$15). Check the rates here to stay up-to-date.
  • If you’re going to be using the Metro regularly over a few days, it’s worth getting a Troika card , a contactless, refillable card you can use on all public transport. Using the Metro is cheaper with one of these: a single ride is 36₽, not 55₽. Buy them and refill them in the Metro stations, and they’re valid for 5 years, so you can keep it for next time. Or, if you have a lot of cash left on it when you leave, you can get it refunded at the Metro Service Centers at Ulitsa 1905 Goda, 25 or at Staraya Basmannaya 20, Building 1.
  • You can also buy silicone bracelets and keychains with built-in transport chips that you can use as a Troika card. (A Moscow Metro Fitbit!) So far, you can only get these at the Pushkinskaya metro station Live Helpdesk and souvenir shops in the Mayakovskaya and Trubnaya metro stations. The fare is the same as for the Troika card.
  • You can also use Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.

Rules, spoken and unspoken

No smoking, no drinking, no filming, no littering. Photography is allowed, although it used to be banned.

Stand to the right on the escalator. Break this rule and you risk the wrath of the legendary escalator attendants. (No shenanigans on the escalators in general.)

Get out of the way. Find an empty corner to hide in when you get off a train and need to stare at your phone. Watch out getting out of the train in general; when your train doors open, people tend to appear from nowhere or from behind ornate marble columns, walking full-speed.

Always offer your seat to elderly ladies (what are you, a monster?).

An Easy Tour

This is no Metro Marathon ( 199 stations in 20 hours ). It’s an easy tour, taking in most—though not all—of the notable stations, the bulk of it going clockwise along the Circle line, with a couple of short detours. These stations are within minutes of one another, and the whole tour should take about 1-2 hours.

Start at Mayakovskaya Metro station , at the corner of Tverskaya and Garden Ring,  Triumfalnaya Square, Moskva, Russia, 125047.

1. Mayakovskaya.  Named for Russian Futurist Movement poet Vladimir Mayakovsky and an attempt to bring to life the future he imagined in his poems. (The Futurist Movement, natch, was all about a rejecting the past and celebrating all things speed, industry, modern machines, youth, modernity.) The result: an Art Deco masterpiece that won the National Grand Prix for architecture at the New York World’s Fair in 1939. It’s all smooth, rounded shine and light, and gentle arches supported by columns of dark pink marble and stainless aircraft steel. Each of its 34 ceiling niches has a mosaic. During World War II, the station was used as an air-raid shelter and, at one point, a bunker for Stalin. He gave a subdued but rousing speech here in Nov. 6, 1941 as the Nazis bombed the city above.

Take the 3/Green line one station to:

2. Belorusskaya. Opened in 1952, named after the connected Belarussky Rail Terminal, which runs trains between Moscow and Belarus. This is a light marble affair with a white, cake-like ceiling, lined with Belorussian patterns and 12 Florentine ceiling mosaics depicting life in Belarussia when it was built.

Transfer onto the 1/Brown line. Then, one stop (clockwise) t o:

3. Novoslobodskaya.  This station was designed around the stained-glass panels, which were made in Latvia, because Alexey Dushkin, the Soviet starchitect who dreamed it up (and also designed Mayakovskaya station) couldn’t find the glass and craft locally. The stained glass is the same used for Riga’s Cathedral, and the panels feature plants, flowers, members of the Soviet intelligentsia (musician, artist, architect) and geometric shapes.

Go two stops east on the 1/Circle line to:

4. Komsomolskaya. Named after the Komsomol, or the Young Communist League, this might just be peak Stalin Metro style. Underneath the hub for three regional railways, it was intended to be a grand gateway to Moscow and is today its busiest station. It has chandeliers; a yellow ceiling with Baroque embellishments; and in the main hall, a colossal red star overlaid on golden, shimmering tiles. Designer Alexey Shchusev designed it as an homage to the speech Stalin gave at Red Square on Nov. 7, 1941, in which he invoked Russia’s illustrious military leaders as a pep talk to Soviet soldiers through the first catastrophic year of the war.   The station’s eight large mosaics are of the leaders referenced in the speech, such as Alexander Nevsky, a 13th-century prince and military commander who bested German and Swedish invading armies.

One more stop clockwise to Kurskaya station,  and change onto the 3/Blue  line, and go one stop to:

5. Baumanskaya.   Opened in 1944. Named for the Bolshevik Revolutionary Nikolai Bauman , whose monument and namesake district are aboveground here. Though he seemed like a nasty piece of work (he apparently once publicly mocked a woman he had impregnated, who later hung herself), he became a Revolutionary martyr when he was killed in 1905 in a skirmish with a monarchist, who hit him on the head with part of a steel pipe. The station is in Art Deco style with atmospherically dim lighting, and a series of bronze sculptures of soldiers and homefront heroes during the War. At one end, there is a large mosaic portrait of Lenin.

Stay on that train direction one more east to:

6. Elektrozavodskaya. As you may have guessed from the name, this station is the Metro’s tribute to all thing electrical, built in 1944 and named after a nearby lightbulb factory. It has marble bas-relief sculptures of important figures in electrical engineering, and others illustrating the Soviet Union’s war-time struggles at home. The ceiling’s recurring rows of circular lamps give the station’s main tunnel a comforting glow, and a pleasing visual effect.

Double back two stops to Kurskaya station , and change back to the 1/Circle line. Sit tight for six stations to:

7. Kiyevskaya. This was the last station on the Circle line to be built, in 1954, completed under Nikita Khrushchev’ s guidance, as a tribute to his homeland, Ukraine. Its three large station halls feature images celebrating Ukraine’s contributions to the Soviet Union and Russo-Ukrainian unity, depicting musicians, textile-working, soldiers, farmers. (One hall has frescoes, one mosaics, and the third murals.) Shortly after it was completed, Khrushchev condemned the architectural excesses and unnecessary luxury of the Stalin era, which ushered in an epoch of more austere Metro stations. According to the legend at least, he timed the policy in part to ensure no Metro station built after could outshine Kiyevskaya.

Change to the 3/Blue line and go one stop west.

8. Park Pobedy. This is the deepest station on the Metro, with one of the world’s longest escalators, at 413 feet. If you stand still, the escalator ride to the surface takes about three minutes .) Opened in 2003 at Victory Park, the station celebrates two of Russia’s great military victories. Each end has a mural by Georgian artist Zurab Tsereteli, who also designed the “ Good Defeats Evil ” statue at the UN headquarters in New York. One mural depicts the Russian generals’ victory over the French in 1812 and the other, the German surrender of 1945. The latter is particularly striking; equal parts dramatic, triumphant, and gruesome. To the side, Red Army soldiers trample Nazi flags, and if you look closely there’s some blood spatter among the detail. Still, the biggest impressions here are the marble shine of the chessboard floor pattern and the pleasingly geometric effect if you view from one end to the other.

Keep going one more stop west to:

9. Slavyansky Bulvar.  One of the Metro’s youngest stations, it opened in 2008. With far higher ceilings than many other stations—which tend to have covered central tunnels on the platforms—it has an “open-air” feel (or as close to it as you can get, one hundred feet under). It’s an homage to French architect Hector Guimard, he of the Art Nouveau entrances for the Paris M é tro, and that’s precisely what this looks like: A Moscow homage to the Paris M é tro, with an additional forest theme. A Cyrillic twist on Guimard’s Metro-style lettering over the benches, furnished with t rees and branch motifs, including creeping vines as towering lamp-posts.

Stay on the 3/Blue line and double back four stations to:

10. Arbatskaya. Its first iteration, Arbatskaya-Smolenskaya station, was damaged by German bombs in 1941. It was rebuilt in 1953, and designed to double as a bomb shelter in the event of nuclear war, although unusually for stations built in the post-war phase, this one doesn’t have a war theme. It may also be one of the system’s most elegant: Baroque, but toned down a little, with red marble floors and white ceilings with gilded bronze c handeliers.

kendamil formula travel size

Jump back on the 3/Blue line  in the same direction and take it one more stop:

11. Ploshchad Revolyutsii (Revolution Square). Opened in 1938, and serving Red Square and the Kremlin . Its renowned central hall has marble columns flanked by 76 bronze statues of Soviet heroes: soldiers, students, farmers, athletes, writers, parents. Some of these statues’ appendages have a yellow sheen from decades of Moscow’s commuters rubbing them for good luck. Among the most popular for a superstitious walk-by rub: the snout of a frontier guard’s dog, a soldier’s gun (where the touch of millions of human hands have tapered the gun barrel into a fine, pointy blade), a baby’s foot, and a woman’s knee. (A brass rooster also sports the telltale gold sheen, though I am told that rubbing the rooster is thought to bring bad luck. )

Now take the escalator up, and get some fresh air.

Kendamil Goat Infant Formula: a naturally gentle alternative for sensitive tummies

Babies start life with an immature digestive system, so it’s quite common at some point for your baby to experience some digestive issues such as colic, reflux, gas, constipation and spit-up. As they develop and grow stronger most babies grow out of these issues, but for those with sensitive tums a more gentle formula may be the solution.

There are many sensitive baby formulas available to choose from, as well as a more natural gentle alternative for sensitive tummies, goat formula. In this article we will delve into the contents of sensitive baby formulas to see how a goat milk based formula might be a gentle alternative that is closer to breast milk vs sensitive formula. a more natural alternative.

Why are families choosing sensitive formulas?

Did you know that 6 in 10 parents use sensitive, gentle, or lactose-reduced infant formulas for their babies? (1) So let’s get into why?

Many babies will suffer from digestive issues between the ages of 0-6 months. Reflux affects around 70-85% of infants and colic affects around 5-40% of babies globally . Some parents may also find their babies to be fussy, gassy and cry more than usual. If an underlying health concern has been ruled out as well as a food allergy or intolerance such as CMPA, then most babies do eventually grow out of these common digestive problems. But for babies struggling with digestive issues and sensitive tummies  an alternative formula that is easier for them to digest can often help to relieve these problems.

Most sensitive formulas will contain partially hydrolyzed proteins, instead of intact proteins, some also have lower lactose content by adding carbohydrate alternatives that are not found in breast milk, such as syrups and dextrin . The partially hydrolyzed proteins can make it easier for baby to digest and probiotics can help aid digestion. A study from 2021 showed that this type of formula recipe may be of benefit to some infants suffering with gastrointestinal disorders. The results from the study did show that the infants had decreased vomiting, flatulence and crying.

How Is Kendamil Goat Formula Naturally Closer To Breast Milk?

For babies with sensitive tummies, who are suffering with common digestive issues such as colic, reflux, spit-up and constipation, Kendamil’s Goat Infant Formula could be a more natural alternative to choosing a sensitive formula, which tends to be more processed. Let’s dig into the reasons why you may want to consider goat milk:

Gentle And Speciality Formulas Are More Processed

Gentle formulas are usually made of partially hydrolyzed proteins or extensively hydrolyzed proteins so that the proteins are a similar size to breast milk and easier to digest. Kendamil’s Goat Infant Formula predominantly contains A2 beta-casein proteins naturally, which are similar to the proteins found in breast milk and may be easier to digest for sensitive babies.

For infants experiencing digestive discomfort such as constipation, gassiness and reflux, using goat milk formula, may reduce the likelihood of these symptoms occurring, making it a natural alternative for infants with sensitive tummies.

Oil vs Whole Milk

Most sensitive formula brands are using a 100% oil blend instead of using nutrient rich whole milk. A few of them are also still using palm oil which has been shown to cause constipation in some infants and can also prevent the absorption of good fats and prevent the absorption of important minerals like calcium .

   Taste Is Important

Because sensitive formula recipes contain partially or extensively hydrolyzed proteins, often this can mean the formula itself tastes and smells less appealing than standard formula. Some sensitive formula brands are also adding sugar to increase palatability.

Because we use whole milk in our Goat Infant Formula it gives our formula a natural creamy texture and richer flavor.

Corn Syrup vs Lactose

Lactose and corn syrup are two common ingredients used in baby formula. Lactose is a natural sugar found in milk, including breast milk, while corn syrup is a processed sweetener made from corn starch. Lactose is easily digested by most babies and provides them with the energy they need to grow and develop. It also helps to promote the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut and supports the absorption of calcium and other minerals. If your baby does not need a specialty formula due to an allergy or diagnosed intolerance, the advantages of a formula with lactose as the sole carbohydrate source, like in Kendamil Goat, outweigh the advantages of using a formula containing corn syrup. That’s because corn syrup is a highly processed sweetener with a high glycemic index, which can cause a rapid spike in blood sugar levels. Maltodextrin is not as easily digested as lactose either and may not provide the same nutritional benefits. Let’s Compare

As you can see from the chart below Kendamil’s Goat Infant Formula is made with whole goat milk containing naturally occurring MFGM and HMOs, it has lactose as its main source of carbohydrate and includes prebiotic GOS and does not contain palm oil. Kendamil compared to other baby formulas UK
