The summer of 2024 in Pennsylvania has something for every music fan.

Set in 1975 during the final days of the American occupation of Saigon,  Miss Saigon  is an epic love story about the relationship between an American G.I. and a young Vietnamese woman. Returning to Broadway this spring, Jon Jon Briones will star as Hermes in the Tony-award winning Hadestown . Previously he played the Engineer in the London West End & Broadway revival of Miss Saigon , a role which garnered him Olivier and Drama Desk nominations and a Theater World Award. Briones has a bustling career, encompassing stage, screen, and television. Most recently he starred in the Amblin feature The Last Voyage of the Demeter , played series regular ‘Gabriel Alonto’ in the FX limited series Class of 09 , and Maurice in Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast . Briones is best known for his starring role in Ryan Murphy’s Golden Globe®-nominated Netflix series Ratched , where he portrayed Dr. Richard Hanover opposite Sarah Paulson. Other popular performances have been Modesto Cunanan in American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace , Star Trek Picard , and American Horror Story . British-born actor Alistair Brammer made his West End debut as Marius in Les Miserables and played Jean Prouvaire in the show's 25th anniversary concert in 2010 and in the 2012 feature film. He appeared on the West End in War Horse and toured in Hair and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat . Brammer made his Broadway debut as Chris in Miss Saigon , a role he first performed in London.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Trophy Tour Begins in New York

The Trophy Tour starts in the USA and South America before moving to the Caribbean in April.

Two-time T20 World Cup champion Chris Gayle and USA cricketing star Ali Khan, kicked off the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Trophy Tour last week in New York, lighting up the Empire State Building in the event’s distinctive blue and pink colours.

The Trophy then visited numerous landmarks and famous locations in New York City, such as the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge and The Edge, before activations at a New York Islanders NHL game and Penn Station gave fans the opportunity to take pictures with the Trophy.

The Trophy then travelled to Long Island and Nassau County, where it was welcomed by a procession of Emergency Service vehicles at the under-construction Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. The venue will host nine T20 World Cup matches in June.

**Team USA welcomes the Trophy at the Houston Space Station **

Next, the Trophy went down to Texas and the Space Station in Houston, and was greeted by Team USA, who were in town for a preparation training camp. From Houston, the trophy then moved on to Dallas’ Grand Prairie Stadium - where USA and Canada will face off in the opening match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in June this year. 

Later, 2023 World Series Champions, the Texas Rangers, welcomed the T20 World Cup Trophy at their home stadium in Arlington. To wrap up the week in Texas, 3,000 people attended the Holi Festival at Frisco, where fans were given the opportunity to be photographed with the famous trophy.

Watch out for ticket scams when March Madness, NFL draft come to Detroit

The road to the Final Four curves through Detroit in late March, creating an open shot for social media scammers to attempt to trick basketball fans into buying fake tickets. And then, lucky us, the con artists will try to intercept our money in late April during the NFL draft.

As I've warned in the past — most recently with Taylor Swift tickets in the summer and Detroit Lions playoffs tickets in January — fake tickets are a real thing when it comes to FOMO moments.

The crooks engineer their plays, knowing that you don't want to miss out on a chance to watch a March Madness game in person, especially if you're a fanatical fan of the college team on the court. And the NFL draft is its own hyped-up animal. Scammers love the odds for running off with hundreds of dollars at a pop.

Many fans do not realize — and what gives scammers an edge — is how easily and quickly sophisticated crime rings can connect directly with you when you're looking for a ticket.

So, I'm going to give you two warnings here:

Do not jump at March Madness tickets that suddenly become available on social media. The 2024 NCAA Men's Basketball Midwest Regional is scheduled for March 29 and March 31 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. March Madness tickets are sold via www.NCAAtickets.com , Ticketmaster and other ticket platforms. Hint: Ticketmaster isn't going to ask you to buy an Amazon Gift Card , iTunes card, money order, or other third-party gift card to pay for tickets.

Watch out for counterfeit tickets to the NFL draft. The NFL draft is heading to Detroit April 25 through April 27. And, yes, con artist will try to get you to buy tickets even though many NFL draft tickets are free.

AI helps scammers track you down

I talked via Zoom to a cybersecurity analyst who works for the firm Nisos and is based in Europe about how crime rings are using the popularity of sporting events and concerts against us.

For this column, the Nisos analyst set up a separate account online and posted on social media that he was looking for college basketball tickets to the Tarleton State Texans vs. the Abilene Christian Wildcats matchup. Shortly afterward, a stranger on social media claimed to have a ticket to sell. Great, right? Not so fast. The so-called ticket had a game date of March 21, and the actual game was played March 20.

The Nisos analyst purposely picked a game that had already been played to test how artificial intelligence is being used in social media scams to quickly engage a willing buyer based on the language used in posts. The replies back to the potential victim typically involve boilerplate language — which can be treated as a red flag — and may not even mention the specific concert or game initially. They might only say they have a ticket and then get you to engage. No such ticket exists, but they will have plenty of proof that it does.

The analyst, who has conducted similar tests in the past, noted that scammers even once readily claimed to have tickets available to sell him for his own birthday party and his own funeral after he requested such tickets to ferret out crooks. He does not suggest that everyday consumers try such tactics, as it's generally better to not draw the attention of scammers online.

Ultimately, AI can be used in the future to increase the quality of fraudulent documents, such as digital tickets and receipts to show the purchase, according to the analyst, who asked that his name not be used because of his work in threat intelligence.

The bottom line: It's important to realize that no one on the internet is out to do you any favors when selling anything. Someone might say they're willing help out a fellow fan by selling ticket at far less than the going rate. Or they might say they want to sell the tickets because their friend can no longer go. Don't buy it. They're stringing you along to trap you into sending them money.

Desperation for last-minute tickets also makes you a target

Last year, millions of Taylor Swift fans couldn't buy concert tickets after registering to receive presale codes. The meltdown led to Taylor Swift tickets popping up all over social media and secondary markets. And yes, the chaos contributed to the flood of scams involving fake Taylor Swift tickets, according to the Nisos analyst. Yet, the Nisos analyst noted, scammers sell fake tickets to relatively small local events, too.

Often, scammers look for signs that someone is desperate to go to an event or rushed to get a ticket. Then, many people can easily overlook what might be signs of a scam. Like why does someone reach out via Facebook but then want to talk further on Instagram? (To make it harder for one social media platform to track the activity and possibly suspend the account.)

Nakia Mills, director of marketing for the Better Business Bureau serving Eastern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, said the BBB's ScamTracker had not yet received any reports of ticket scams relating to March Madness or the NFL draft as of March 20. But it's early in the game.

If you're caught in one of these scams, you can lose good money. I interviewed one high school student who lost $350 on a Taylor Swift ticket scam in Atlanta. A Detroit Lions fan lost between $500 and $1,000 after he used Venmo to pay for two fake tickets offered on Facebook to a the Lions playoff game on Jan. 21, according to the office of Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham.

Ticket scams tend to trigger a median loss of $268, based on BBB Scam Tracker reports from January 2021 through March 2024. The losses involved 451 reports from consumers in the United States and Canada about event ticket scams during that time. Not all scams are reported, though, so the dollars lost could be higher.

Another huge red flag: Beware of prices that are too good to be true.

NFL draft scammers might lure you with a promise of a bargain

It's free to get into the NFL Draft Experience. You'd register for free entry by downloading the NFL OnePass app or going to NFL.com/DraftAccess. Adults can register up to five children to get into the event.

But VIP tickets to gain special access to exclusive events during the NFL draft are priced at $550 to $5,500 each, according to Mills at the Michigan BBB. So, she said, fans should not expect any so-called bargains for VIP options.

For example, fans must purchase tickets to be seated inside the draft theater during the event. As the Free Press reported March 21, tickets for some premium packages for draft events were already sold out. But other packages — starting at $550 a person and starting at $950 a person — remained available.

Yet, here's a tip based on what happened in some cases when Cleveland hosted the NFL draft in 2021.

"Even though passes to the NFL Draft Experience were free, tickets for many of the time slots went quickly and then people tried to scalp tickets or, worse, sell counterfeit tickets, " recalled Teresa Murray, who lives in Cleveland and directs the Consumer Watchdog office for U.S. PIRG, a nonprofit advocacy group.

In Cleveland, the free tickets were limited in 2021 due to COVID-19 concerns and fans ended up seeing those NFL draft tickets sold on the secondary market. And, no surprise, some vendors peddled knockoff NFL jerseys and other merchandise in cities where the NFL draft was held.

Here are other inside tips on ticket scams

Digital tickets look real: Scammers often create a very realistic-looking screenshot of a ticket that doesn't exist or has previously been sold, possibly more than once, according to an earlier warning from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel about ticket scams. The graphics seem so professional that you might only discover you've been scammed when you're turned away at the gate.

Scammers can easily manipulate you into thinking something is legitimate. When it comes to fake ticket sales, they can use stolen or forged bar codes or QR codes to make a fake ticket transaction look real. It's also possible for scammers to send you a fake "proof of purchase."

Scammers pretend they need to protect themselves: Sometimes, a ticket scammer will ask you to send half of the payment upfront to prove you're real. It's a misdirection play. They're scamming you while pretending you could be a crook. End the conversation if a down payment on a ticket is demanded.

Scammers troll social media: The Nisos analyst says someone who posts a request for March Madness tickets or NFL draft events on social media is bound to get hit by scammers since the crooks track such comments. The same's true if you comment on fan websites. Maybe you'd find legitimate connections, he said, but you'd have to wade through all sorts of scams to find the real deal. Limit who can see your posts and information.

Many times, scammers may reach out directly to you, such as by Facebook messenger, to say they're having a hard time selling some tickets or they noticed that you're a fan and would like the tickets to go to someone who would enjoy the game or concert. Again, don't fall for it.

Be careful when you buy: Do not purchase tickets before a tour has gone on sale, according to an alert from Ticketmaster. "Third-party sites or individual sellers often list tickets for sale when they don’t actually have them — a rampant practice also known as speculative ticketing."

Don't use Venmo, CashApp, or Zelle to buy tickets: The speed of peer-to-peer payment apps is proving to be a gold mine for scammers who trick you into sending them cash. If you've just sent $500 for fake NCAA tickets via a money app, don't expect to easily get your money back, if at all. These transactions are generally not reversible.

Tickets to Friday's Fisk Jubilee Singers Concert in Oak Ridge are sellng fast

Tickets to the event are selling fast, organizers say.

Miss Fisk University Aaliyah Tyon Riddle, who graduated from Austin East Magnet High School in Knoxville , will be attending Friday's Fisk Jubilee Singers Concert at 6 p.m. at the Historic Grove Theatre, 123 Randolph Road, Oak Ridge.

The concert is a benefit for the Scarboro 85 Memorial planned for A.K. Bissell Park to honor the 85 Black students who desegregated Oak Ridge Schools.

Aaliyah is a big sister to six siblings and a younger sister to 15 siblings. She graduated high school with the seventh-highest GPA in her class. Her dedication to serving her community and commitment to being a voice for equitable educational opportunities for the youth, allowed her to be nationally recognized as the Urban League’s Empowered Youth of the Year, during her senior year of high school.

Now attending Fisk University, Aaliyah is a first-generation college student, majoring in psychology with a minor in gender studies.

"I value my education and view excelling in school as my top priority." she said.

With a 3.73 cumulative GPA, Aaliyah is currently an Ella Shepard Moore Provost Scholar, a member of the W.E.B DuBois Honors College, and a member of Beta Kappa Chi, a scientific honors society. Throughout her matriculation at Fisk University, Aaliyah has had an abundance of opportunities to further her future psychology career, including interning with the Knox County Health Department her freshman year, participating in an AI/Cognitive Bias Internship her sophomore year, and she spent this past summer at Vanderbilt University.

“It is important to be involved in extra curriculum activities that support growth," she said.

Serving as a member of the Biomedical Informatics Summer Program and on campus, Aaliyah has served in many leadership roles including: Miss Sophomore 2021-2022, a two-year member of the Fisk University Cheerleading Team, a two-year resident assistant, a member of FUSA, and a Fisk University Media Ambassador. Currently, Aaliyah serves as a third-year student health ambassador with the Meharry HBCU wellness project, the president of the Alpha Upsilon chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., a community health advocate with Meharry Medical College and as an active member in many of Fisk University’s student-led clubs.

“Upon graduating college, I plan to attend graduate school with the hopes of obtaining my Ph.D. in psychology," she said.

Aaliyah’s main goal in life is to help as many people as possible while leaving her mark in every space she enters. Proverbs 16:3, which states, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established” is a verse Aaliyah holds dear to her heart. She attributes all of her successes to God, who is the head of her life, and the constant motivation from her family. Aaliyah hopes young people will attend the concert and she will be available to provide insight to preparing for the future.

Maxwell announces concert tour with Jazmine Sullivan. Here's how to get tickets

Maxwell is taking his swoon-worthy pipes on the road this fall.

The Grammy-winning R&B singer announced The Serenade 2024 North American Tour on Monday.

The tour kicks off Sept. 14 in Hollywood, Florida, and will see the “This Woman’s Work” singer visit cities such as Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston and Las Vegas before wrapping in Los Angeles on Oct. 27.

Tickets for the tour go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. local time, according to Maxwell's official website . Fans can purchase tickets online at ticketmaster.com .

R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan and singer-songwriter October London will serve as the tour's special guests.

Sullivan, who last toured with her Heaux Tales Tour in 2022, shared her excitement to hit the stage again in an Instagram post Monday.

"I know I’ve been quiet and I thank you all for being patient and giving me the space I needed," Sullivan wrote. "I’m excited to get back on the road this fall with my good friend @maxwell ❤️ tickets on sale this Friday."

The tour follows Maxwell's 2022 Night Tour with Anthony Hamilton and Joe and last year’s sold-out shows at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, California; Wynn’s Encore Theater in Las Vegas; and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

From there, she'll return to North America to tour Canada and a few remaining US cities in the fall. The Eras Tour international dates resume on May 9 in Paris. The European tour will run until August 20 in London. UK prices are listed in pounds, and start times vary from city to city. US dates start in October and can be found under the following table.

The Eras tour will return to the US on October 18 in Miami. In addition to the Miami shows, Swift will perform multiple dates in New Orleans and Indianapolis. On November 14, Swift will head to Canada for several shows in Toronto and Vancouver. All North American shows start at 7 p.m. local time.

How to buy tickets for Taylor Swift's 2024 tour

Original standard tickets for Taylor Swift's 2024 sold out long ago for both international and domestic dates. All US tickets and many international tickets were sold through Ticketmaster , although select international locations used different services. 

Tickets for most dates are available on resale websites like StubHub and Vivid Seats . These are generally higher-priced than the originals, which are no longer available. Keep in mind that some countries have rules regarding reselling tickets.

How much are Taylor Swift tickets?

Ticket prices vary by date and location. International resale tickets tend to be a bit cheaper than US resale tickets. It's worth noting that some of the cheapest tickets have restricted views.

StubHub's cheapest European tickets range from $392 (Madrid, Spain, on May 29) to £978 (London, United Kingdom, on June 22). The latter is around $1,248 in USD. The lowest prices for most shows are around $450 to $1,000. On Vivid Seats , the cheapest tickets for these dates go for $549 and $683, respectively. 

When it comes to North American shows, the cheapest StubHub tickets range from $1,045 (Vancouver, Canada, on December 8) to $2,081 (Miami, Florida, on October 19). Names of Moscow Concert Attack Victims Begin to Emerge

Those lost include mothers, fathers, an amateur hockey player and many others.

As emergency services combed the scene of the attack on a concert hall in Moscow, details on some of the victims began to emerge from officials and local news media.

Most of those identified so far appeared to be in their 40s, and many had traveled from other parts of the country to attend the concert where Piknik, a Russian rock band formed in the late 1970s, was slated to perform on Friday night.

Alexander Baklemyshev, 51, had long dreamed about seeing the band, his son told local media , and had traveled solo from his home city of Satka, some 1,000 miles east of Moscow, for the concert.

His son, Maksim, told the Russian news outlet MSK1 that his father had sent him a video of the concert hall before the attack. That was the last he heard from his father.

“There was no last conversation,” his son said. “All that was left is the video, and nothing more.”

Irina Okisheva and her husband, Pavel Okishev, also traveled hundreds of miles to attend the concert — making their way from Kirov, northeast of Moscow. Mr. Okishev had received the tickets as an early birthday present. He was set to turn 35 next week, the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper reported. Both he and his wife died in the attack, the paper reported.

“Very painful and scary,” Ms. Okisheva’s colleagues wrote on a social media page for a photo studio where she worked. “The whole studio team is horrified by what happened.”

Anastasiya Volkova lost both of her parents in the attack. She told 5 TV that she had missed a call from her mother on Friday night at around the time of the attack. When she called back, there was no response, Ms. Volkova said.

“I couldn’t answer the phone. I didn’t hear the call,” Ms. Volkova told the broadcaster, adding that her mother had been “really looking forward to this concert.”

As the death toll climbed to 133 people, the Moscow region’s health care ministry published a preliminary list of victims . It had 41 names; Andrey Rudnitsky was one of them.

A forward in an amateur hockey league, he turned 39 years old last week, according to his page on the league’s website. Mr. Rudnitsky’s teammates told Pro Gorod , a local news website, that he had moved to Moscow last year from Yaroslavl but planned to return home to play there. Mr. Rudnitsky had two children.

Ekaterina Novoselova, 42, was also on the list. Ms. Novoselova won a beauty pageant in 2001 in her home city of Tver, 110 miles northwest of Moscow, one of the pageant organizer’s told the local news outlet TIA . It reported that she had moved to Moscow to work as a lawyer and is survived by her husband and two children.

Some people appeared to have been named by mistake. Yevgeniya Ryumina, 38, told Komsomolskaya Pravda that she had fled the concert hall to safety. But she had lost her ID, Ms. Ryumina said, suggesting that might have led to the confusion.
