Apple Wallet is a mobile wallet app you can use for making mobile payments, boarding a flight, saving coupons, and more. In tandem with Apple Pay , the Apple Wallet app is a secure way to handle all your payment needs without the need for physical cards or cash .

Apple Wallet is available only on the iPhone and iPod touch.

Store a Wide Range of Items in Your Apple Wallet App

Apple Wallet stores a range of digital payment options and other paperless items, including credit and debit cards, rewards cards, store coupons and offers, boarding passes, movie tickets, gift cards, student IDs (for select campuses), and more.

Cards other than credit or debit cards are called passes. Passes include information such as your gift card balance, expiration dates, seat numbers for concerts and flights, how many rewards you have for a retailer, and more.

How to Add Passes to the Apple Wallet App

To use Apple Wallet, add the important passes you like to use from your device. There are several ways to add passes. Add passes from within Wallet by tapping Edit Passes and then scanning a loyalty, reward, coupon, or gift card. Or, select Find Apps for Wallet and see a list of gift cards, coupons, and rewards from retailers that use Wallet.

Add passes by tapping wallet notifications after paying with Apple Pay, sharing through AirDrop , in Mail or Messages, or from a Mac or web browser.

Add passes to your Wallet during a transaction. For example, Delta allows you to add your boarding pass to your Wallet after you check in for your flight.

Add a Pass With a Barcode or QR Code

One commonly used method is adding a pass using a barcode or QR code . To add a pass with a barcode or QR code, locate the pass you want to add and then follow these steps:

Open the Wallet app on your device.

Scroll down and tap Edit Passes > Scan Code .

The QR code scanner is available only on devices with iOS 12 or iOS 11.

Wait for the scanner to start, then scan the barcode or QR code. The pass is added to your Apple Wallet.

How to Use an Apple Wallet Pass

Once you add a pass to your Apple Wallet, it's easy to access and use it.

Use a Retail Store Pass

Most Wallet passes are retail store rewards cards, coupons, or offers. After adding these cards to your Wallet, using a card in a brick-and-mortar store is simple.

Open the Wallet app.

Locate the pass you wish to use by scrolling through your Wallet.

Tap the pass to view its details, including the barcode or QR code.

When you're in a store, the cashier scans the code from your device.

Use a Boarding Pass

Some airlines, including Delta and American Airlines, allow you to save your boarding pass to your Apple Wallet after you check in. You don't have to carry your physical boarding pass with you. Other passes, such as movie or concert tickets and IDs, work the same way.

Download the mobile app for the airline you use to save boarding passes to your Wallet. Make sure you do this first.

Locate your boarding pass in your Apple Wallet.

Scan your mobile boarding pass before you enter security and at the gate before you board your flight.

Swipe left and right to view your available boarding passes. If your trip has multiple legs or flights, the Wallet keeps your boarding passes together.

How to Remove a Pass From Your Wallet

Whether you used the last of a gift card or a coupon expired, there's an easy way to remove passes from your Wallet.

Open your Wallet app and locate the pass you want to remove.

Tap the pass, then tap More (three dots) in the upper-right corner of the screen.

Tap Remove Pass > Remove to delete it from your Wallet.

Alternatively, from your Wallet's main screen, tap Edit Passes , tap the red minus icon, and then tap Delete .

Add a Credit Card to Apple Wallet

Besides the ability to track and keep passes in your Wallet, the app also allows you to store your credit and debit card information to be used in conjunction with Apple Pay. Add new cards to your Wallet and use those cards to make mobile payments online or in-person wherever Apple Pay is accepted.

Here's how to add a credit or debit card:

Open the Wallet app and tap Add (plus sign) in the upper-right corner.

Tap Credit or Debit Card .

Tap Continue .

Scan your card or enter the credit card details manually. Tap Next to verify your card information.

Enter your security code and tap Next .

Tap Agree to agree to the Terms and Conditions. Wallet verifies your card.

Choose a verification method and tap Next .

Or, tap Complete Verification Later .

Your card is added to your Wallet. Tap Use as Default Card or tap Not Now .

You can also go to the iPhone Settings , tap Wallet & Apple Pay , and tap Add Card .

How to add unsupported cards to Apple Wallet

Amber Neely's Avatar

Like most of us, you've probably amassed dozens of membership and rewards cards over the years. And, if you're like most of us, you always seem to misplace the cards when you need them the most.

Instead of spending all your time rifling through your wallet, purse, or bag, take the time to add your rewards cards to the Wallet App.

While some rewards cards will allow you to add them to your iPhone via an in-app prompt automatically, or with the click of a button on the company's website, many cards are unsupported. For those cards, there's a relatively easy workaround.

For this example, we'll use Pass2U, a popular Wallet management app. Pass2U can be used for free but has a one-time $1.99 in-app purchase that allows for more customization options.

How to add a rewards card or membership card to iPhone

  • Download the Pass2U app on your iPhone
  • Launch Pass2U
  • At the top, tap the Search button
  • Type in the name of the rewards card, if you have one
  • Find a template you like and tap it
  • Fill out the fields required
  • Scan your card's barcode using the Scan feature
  • When finished, tap Done

If you purchase the pro version of Pass2U, you can create your own templates.

Apple Card just works

In the realm of credit cards, where appearances often blur into similarity, Apple's Card and Wallet applications emerge as a beacon of distinction. Amidst a sea of plastic, what truly sets them apart is the seamless blend of accessible information and effortless usability. The sheer elegance of the app's interface mirrors Apple's commitment to simplicity, ensuring that even complex financial data is presented in a user-friendly manner. Navigating through your financial realm is a delight, with a wealth of information laid out intuitively. From insightful spending summaries to real-time transaction updates, the app offers a rich tapestry of your financial life, painted with vibrant clarity. And then, there's the cherry on top – the Daily Cash feature, generously offering you a timely return on your purchases. Imagine the joy of seeing your cashback instantly hitting your account, a delightful reminder of your smart spending choices. Apple's Card and Wallet applications, where simplicity meets information in a joyous dance, and your rewards arrive just in time to make your day a little brighter.

Finally, perfection from an app

Very seldom does any app do everything and more that you would want. Until now. This app works flawlessly. I love the Apple Cash section tied to my Apple Card. I would LOVE for every other card company to take note and match the depth of information available related to your purchases. It is amazing. I know , dorky to be so excited about such a thing. But having multiple people using the Apple Pay and being able to pinpoint exactly who spent exactly what- when/where- is great. And the length of history is awesome. And spending habits broken out by category is a bonus. The other cards in wallet being secure and easily accessed without having to carry physical card is great. Also have insurance cards and , because my state participates, have vaccine cards for entire family also easily accessible. Well done Apple.

Fraudulent activity on my account and Apple didn’t do nothing about it.

My old Apple ID was hacked into which the person had use my Apple Cash to make purchases. Apple Cash took money out of my bank account to cover purchases I didn’t make. I call my bank explaining the situation and they did an investigation. Turns out that my bank received the information from the bank Apple Cash is under stating that the transactions were legit. Like no they weren’t because I didn’t make purchases at a gas station or at Subway so my bank had to take back the credit they gave me for the transactions that were taken out. My bank told me I needed to call Apple about getting more info of the transactions since they are the ones who took the money out. So I did. Once again I explained the situation and they did a dispute. Days later, come to find out, they said the same thing: the transactions were legit. Like REALLY???? I am never using Apple Cash again and it’s sad that they can’t reopen the dispute. So I lost $90 and the theft got away with stealing my money and they couldn’t dig deeper to find if the transactions were from a different state. Lost a valuable customer. Need to do better in grabbing more information or ask for my information from the customer.

How to Use and Set up Apple Wallet: A Step-by-Step Guide

Are you using the Apple Wallet app? This handy application works just like your wallet and keeps all of your cards, boarding passes, transit tickets, and more in one secure location.

Setting up and using the Apple Wallet app is easy, but few are aware of its many benefits (and some are confused about its relationship to another Apple feature, Apple Pay).

In this article, you will learn the following:

What is the apple wallet app, what are apple wallet features, how to use apple wallet.

The Apple Wallet application works like a digital wallet. It keeps digital copies of many items you would keep in your physical wallet or purse, such as the following:

Credit cards

Debit cards

Event tickets

Boarding passes for travel

Rewards cards

Student ID cards (for select universities)

This article will cover how to use Apple Wallet for iPhone, but keep in mind that your Apple Watch syncs to your iPhone, so it should automatically reflect the payments, tickets, etc. that you add.

Apple Wallet vs. Apple Pay

Users understandably confuse Apple Wallet with Apple Pay. To understand the differences, remember the following:

Apple Pay is the method of using your iOS device to pay for an item using a contactless reader. It replaces your physical cards and cash with a digital version that only you can access via a PIN or fingerprint.

Apple Wallet is where you locate your Apple Pay and select which card(s) to link to Apple Pay.

You can add more than one card to Apple Wallet. When holding your card over the contactless reader, you can swipe between cards and choose which one to use to pay.

Apple Wallet offers many features for payments and event access, including the following:

Apple allows you to link the following:

Apple Cash *

* Send money via text message or link Apple Cash to Apple Pay, so you can simply swipe your phone on a card reader and pay for an item using the money you have in Apple Cash.

Transit and travel

Store boarding passes, train tickets, and other travel documents safely in Apple Wallet.

Boarding passes : After adding an airline pass to Apple Wallet, your phone will receive flight updates such as delays or gate changes. You can use this digital pass to board your flight.

Public transportation : In some cities, you can link your transit pass to your iPhone or Apple Watch so that you can swipe your phone or watch and gain entrance to public transportation. (Apple calls this “ Express Mode. ”)

Movies and live events

Add your sporting event, movie, theater, or concert ticket to Apple Wallet by simply showing your device.

Store your school ID on Apple Wallet and use it to enter your dorm, make payments at your school’s cafeteria, enter the library, or pay for events.

Using Apple Wallet for the above-mentioned features is simple.

Tap the “+” icon next to the word “Wallet.”

null

Click on the “+” icon to add a payment option.

Position your card in the box that appears on your screen.

Take a photo, or enter card details manually.

null

Take a picture of your card or enter details manually.

Adding a pass or ticket

You can add passes and tickets to Apple Wallet using the following methods:

Airdrop: If a friend has your ticket, they can send it to you via AirDrop.

Email: Open the ticket confirmation email and tap the “Add to Apple Wallet” button. (If you don’t see this option, the merchant doesn’t support Apple Wallet.)

QR code: Take a photo of the QR code, and tap the link that appears on your screen.

null

Look for the “Add to Apple Wallet” icon to add a ticket or pass to Apple Wallet.

Using Apple Pay

If a vendor has a contactless card reader, you can use Apple Pay to purchase items.

Hold your phone over the reader.

A screen appears showing your linked cards (and, if activated, your Apple Cash).

If there is more than one card linked, tap on the card you wish to use. (Or tap on “Apple Cash.”)

Hold your finger over the Home button to authorize the transaction.

How to add a boarding pass to Apple Wallet on iPhone, Apple Watch

Jackie Dove

You've got your flight coming up tomorrow and you know your boarding pass is one of the most important things you'll be taking on the trip. You know all of the information by heart. You're boarding a Delta airplane at 4:00 PM. But, if you lose your boarding pass, you could be in big trouble. The good news is that you can add that Delta boarding pass to your Apple Wallet on your iPhone or Apple Watch. Or a United boarding pass, or whatever boarding pass you need to get where you want to go. Here's everything you need to know.

How to add a boarding pass to Apple Wallet

How to use a boarding pass in apple wallet, how to remove a boarding pass in apple wallet, what you need.

Apple Watch

The Apple Wallet app

If you have an iPhone or Apple Watch with Apple Wallet installed, you can easily present your digital boarding pass without having to fumble through your bag. Here’s everything you need to know about adding your boarding pass to Apple Wallet.

After checking in online with Safari or Chrome (or whatever web browser you use), the airline can email your boarding pass. Apple Mail users can have the pass automatically added to their Apple Wallet, or you can manually add it if necessary.

Step 1: Tap Add to Apple Wallet on your boarding pass, ticket, or other pass in the app, email, notification, or whatever form of communication you received it in.

Step 2: Follow the on-screen instructions and tap Add in the upper right corner if needed.

If you are unable to add your boarding pass, ticket, or other pass to the Wallet app, reach out to the issuer to confirm compatibility with the Wallet app. Adding a pass to the Wallet app on your iPhone also adds it to the Wallet app on your paired Apple Watch.

Once you've added a boarding pass to Apple Wallet, you'll want to know how to use it! Here's what you should keep in mind:

Step 1: Open your pass from within the Wallet app. You can find and open the Wallet app, or double-press the side button on your iPhone. If you have an older iPhone with a Home button, double-press that.

Step 2: If you only see one card after opening the Wallet app (your default payment card), tap that card to see all of your cards and passes.

Step 3: Tap on your boarding pass, then present your iPhone to the contactless reader or attendant.

You can easily remove old and expired passes, such as resort passes, boarding passes, rewards cards, and event tickets from the Wallet app on your iPhone or Apple Watch.

Step 1: On your iPhone, tap on the Wallet app . Next, tap the pass that you want to remove.

Step 2: Choose the More button with three dots, then tap Pass Details .

Step 3: Finally, tap Remove Pass , then confirm.

Once you have saved your mobile boarding pass into Apple Wallet, simply open the app and present it to airline staff to be tapped or scanned by the contactless reader. Remember to save each boarding pass individually for flight check-in and delete old passes to avoid confusion. It's also a good idea to have a paper copy of your itinerary as backup.

Instagram is amazing, and many of us use it as a record of our lives — uploading the best bits of our trips, adventures, and notable moments. In fact, several of the iPhone’s most important readouts are actually located at the top of the screen at all times. These include things like the current time, your battery level, your Wi-Fi connectivity strength, and whether or not you’re using cellular data. But have you ever noticed a green and orange dots occasionally hanging out up there?

The dots came about in iOS 14, and tapping these colored orbs doesn’t actually do anything. So what do they mean in the first place? You’re not the only person who’s asked this question, which is why we’ve put together this green-dot-orange-dot explainer. When you’re done reading, we’re willing to bet you’ll know more about this iOS basic than most of your friends and family. What the green dot on your iPhone means

Your iPhone makes it easy to know when you've received a notification, letting you enable pop-up messages, audible chimes, and notification badges so you can keep tabs on all your apps. And while most of these features are great, many users will quickly find notification badges to be intrusive and stress-inducing.

Simplify Your Travel With These Tips For Adding Your Boarding Pass To Your Apple Wallet

L ong gone are the days of printed boarding passes , lost hotel reservations, and paper maps — the world has gone digital. And nowadays, iPhone users are especially lucky thanks to a handy, pre-installed app that makes keeping all your day-to-day and travel essentials handy: Apple Wallet.

Officially introduced in 2012, Apple Wallet — formerly known as Apple Passbook — is designed to help users store everything from debit and credit cards to concert tickets, loyalty cards, student IDs, theme park passes, movie tickets, and boarding passes. Convenient and user-friendly, Apple Wallet ensures that everything is where you need it, when you need it.

How does it work? The process of adding your plane ticket to Apple Wallet is pretty simple. After checking in for your flight , and once the airline has emailed your confirmation, you'll see a button that says "Add to Apple Wallet" in the same email. Simply tap that, follow the on-screen instructions, and voilá — your boarding pass will be ready to use. If this doesn't work, or if you can't see the button, some airline apps — from Southwest to United, JetBlue, and American — have built-in options that let you add your boarding pass to Apple Wallet through them.

Using And Removing Your Boarding Pass

Once you've added your boarding pass to Apple Wallet, using it is even easier. For starters, double-clicking the side button should immediately open up the app and show you everything you've stored in your Wallet — including your boarding pass. If this doesn't work, make sure the feature is activated. To do this, tap "Settings," select "Wallet & Apple Pay," and toggle the "Double-Click Side Button" option so it's green.

To make things even more convenient, Apple Wallet will start to display your boarding pass as a notification on your Home screen up to 10 hours before your flight . When this happens, all you need to do is tap that notification, and your pass will pop up. Your phone will even take care of automatically setting your screen brightness at full, so it's easier for the machine to scan your pass.

As for getting rid of expired boarding passes, Apple Wallet also takes care of that automatically by hiding them. However, you can take things a step further by opening up the Wallet app, scrolling down to the button that says "View Expired Passes," tapping "Edit," selecting the passes you want to delete, and tapping the "Delete" option. If the expired pass is still visible in your Wallet, you can remove it by tapping on the three dots and choosing "Remove Pass."

Select Express Mode for a public transport or payment card, pass or key

When you add an eligible public transport card or other compatible card, pass or key to Apple Wallet, Express Mode is turned on by default. You can also change which card, pass or key is set to Express Mode.

  • Multiple cards, passes and keys with Express Mode can be active in the Wallet app at the same time. For example, you can have one student ID and one car key each set to Express Mode.
  • With some cards, passes and keys, you can't have multiple of the same type or from the same issuer set to Express Mode. For example, you can only have one student ID from the same university set to Express Mode.
  • With some passes, you may be able to set multiple passes of that type to Express Mode.
  • You can set one public transport card to Express Mode for each public transport network. You can also set a payment card that can be used to pay your fare in locations where your Express Travel card isn't accepted.

How to select Express Mode for a public transport or payment card, pass or key on your iPhone

  • Open the Wallet app and select a card, pass or key.

  • Public transport cards or payment cards to use public transport
  • Student IDs
  • Scooter keys
  • Hotel room keys
  • Other compatible passes

How to use Express Mode on your iPhone or Apple Watch

  • Hold the top of your iPhone or the display of your Apple Watch near the contactless reader.
  • When the transaction has successfully completed, a tick and "Done" will appear on your device. If you're using Express Mode with public transport, the terminal gate will open and may beep.

That's it — no need to wake or unlock your device, authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode, or open the Wallet app.

Use Express Mode with power reserve

You may be able to use your Express Mode cards, passes and keys on your iPhone even when your device needs to be charged. With compatible iPhone models , you may be able to use power reserve with some cards, passes and keys that have Express Mode turned on for up to five hours when your iPhone needs to be charged. To see the cards, passes and keys available for use with power reserve, press the side button or the Home button when your iPhone needs to be charged. However, pressing the side button or Home button often may significantly reduce the power reserve. If you turn off your iPhone, this feature won't be available.
