Sinding is a Nord werewolf imprisoned in the jail of Falkreath .

  • 1.1 Ill Met by Moonlight
  • 6 Appearances

Interactions [ ]

Upon speaking to Mathies , he explains that Sinding killed his daughter while in werewolf form. Sinding was in Falkreath because he was looking for a giant beast roaming the wilds around the village. If he killed this beast, the Daedric Lord Hircine would lift his curse.

Ill Met by Moonlight [ ]

During the quest, the Dragonborn receives the Ring of Hircine from Sinding, which causes the wearer to sporadically transform into a werewolf. When walking away from his cell, a glance backwards will show a werewolf ripping off the bars from the roof, and guards will ask the Dragonborn about him escaping upon leaving the barracks. Killing the transformed Sinding and taking his skin is necessary to obtain the Savior's Hide from Hircine and to remove the Ring of Hircine. Alternatively, Sinding can be spared and the hunters killed, which removes the curse from the Ring of Hircine and allows lycanthropes to use it to transform as many times as desired.

If spared, it seems Sinding is ultimately unable to control his beast blood. If the option to spare Sinding is taken, even if the Dragonborn turned around and killed him as well to complete the quest both ways, he can appear later in a random encounter as a hostile werewolf fighting a guard from the local hold. He can also be encountered in werewolf form, but friendly, in Bloated Man's Grotto .

Dialogue [ ]

"Come to gawk at the monster?"

In Bloated Man's Grotto:

"...You! Why?"

If chosen to aid Sinding in defeating the hunter:

The last of the hunters is dead. "Thank you for your help. I will make my home here, away from anyone I might hurt."

  • "Never thought I'd see you again."
  • If the Dragonborn killed Sinding, a dead werewolf, presumably Sinding, may spawn in the Falkreath Jail at the bottom of the pool.
  • If left to live, he may be encountered every month at least once at cleared bandit camps feeding on corpses (it may be possible to find him fighting some bandits in the fort in the overworld, but the forts inside have to be cleared), or at Helgen fighting bandits.
  • Falkreath guards will occasionally mention how they know the Dragonborn had something to do with Sinding's escape.
  • Sinding's beast form is significantly larger than the Dragonborn's.
  • He may sometimes be found back in the Falkreath Jail, in werewolf form, after having been spared. Talking to him at this point may cause him to follow the Dragonborn out of jail.
  • He can sometimes be found following Vilkas and Ria after being killed/skinned, west of Helgen.
  • He can also show up randomly, in werewolf form, after being skinned, in small towns like Riverwood .
  • He may pop up and attack the Dragonborn later on.
  • Also found near Western Watchtower and Pelagia Farm .
  • Sometimes Sinding follows the Dragonborn out of Bloated Man's Grotto after killing the Hunters during the quest "Ill Met By Moonlight," even after Hircine has given the Ring of Hircine. He will then proceed to roam Skyrim , appearing in various places.
  • Sinding will sometimes stay in Bloated Man's Grotto whether killed or not, in the very back of the grotto. When spoken to, he will only reply with "Never thought I'd see you again." or "Until next time."
  • Using Healing Hands or Courage on Sinding will cause him to attack the Dragonborn.
  • During the quest "Ill Met by Moonlight" if the Dragonborn spares Sinding and talks to him before the quest is finished he will make quiet beeping sounds
  • Note: The original copy cannot be killed nor "disabled."
  • Upon interacting with Sinding, instead of making any comments or werewolf growls, there is a strange static noise that is heard instead.
  • There is a chance after the quest has been completed when the Dragonborn returns to Falkreath Jail, Sinding will have respawned meaning that two of Sinding will be alive if he was spared or that there is a new Sinding even if he was killed in Bloated Man's Grotto.
  • Summoning werewolf spirits while in Beast Form near Sinding after revisiting Bloated Man's Grotto will cause Sinding to become hostile toward the two summoned werewolf spirits.
  • Before entering Bloated Man's Grotto, the werewolf form of Sinding can be found in the jail. If he is found there, Sinding cannot be found in Bloated Man's Grotto. Instead, upon returning to the jail, two versions of Sinding can be found standing next to one another. Because of this, the correct Sinding can not be killed and the quest cannot be completed.

How do I talk to Sinding?

The elder scrolls v: skyrim, playstation 3 pc xbox 360 pc playstation 4, the elder scrolls v: skyrim (playstation 3).

  • I've been trying to do the daedric quest "Ill Met by Moonlight" and I'm having trouble with it. The first objective is to talk to Sinding who is in the Falkreath Jail. I know where that is but I can't get him to talk to me. He just stands at the back of his cell. How do I get him to talk to me? Is there someway to have him approach me? Or, do I go in his cell? If so, how do I get into the cell? brightdemon - 11 years ago - report

Accepted Answer

  • Re enter the jail building repeatedly. If that doesn't work, three options remain. 1- Launch an arrow at the bars. I did this once and he ran towards me with his fists up, then stopped and talked to me. 2- Try to injure him through the bars. If he is provoked and then the bounty is paid, he should return to normal. If none of these work then reload from your last save, which was hopefully recent. That is literally all the things I've done on various formats to get past this mission bug. AlternisD - 8 years ago - report 10   7

Top Voted Answer

  • Usually if you just walk up to the bars, sinding will go and talk to you, but if it doesn't work, leave the jail, go back in, and it should work. VaraSatoshi - 8 years ago - report 16   7

Other Answers

  • From UESP: "Sinding may not come to the bars when the player enters the jail, making it impossible to talk to him. Reentering the jail fixes this." VT-14 (Expert) - 11 years ago - report 4   5
  • Simply use a console command. Type "tcl" to go inside the cell and talk to sinding. ReyZ - 8 years ago - report 4   5
  • He should approach the bars, if that doesn't work, go out of the jail, come back in. Or attempt to attack him through the bars (arrows, magic, etc.) PugginNThuggin - 7 years ago - report 3   4
  • You can use command console to remove the bar of his cell, and then talk to him sAlbert - 8 years ago - report 3   5

Singding is in the jail of Falkreath inside the barracks and down the steps. He tells you that he murdered a little girl but that it wasn't his fault, it was the cursed ring that he has and that he was tracking a creature to appease Hircine the god of the hunt to lift this curse. He asks you to do this for him if you do you have to track a white elk and kill it. Hircine then appears and tells you to go to the  Bloated  Man's grotto to kill a monster. This monster is Singding as a werewolf . You can choose to either kill him and skin him( which gives you the Savior's Hide ) or you can kill the rest of the hunters with him( when you get out of the Bloated Man's Grotto Hircine will appear, laugh and lift the curse on the ring, allowing anyone who already has the werewolf curse to become a werewolf as many times as they want).

Okay *SPOILER ALERT* if you've never done this one before. Just wanted to throw that out there because this link gives it all away; http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Ill_Met_By_Moonlight Killing him allows you to get Bolar's Oathblade which is a pretty powerful weapon at lower levels. If you kill him you have to wait one in game month and Bloated Man's Grotto will be altered allowing you to access the Oathblade. Check out the link below if you like; http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Bolar's_Oathblade Hope this helps you out.

You get a pretty great armor item from killing him, though if you're playing a male character the looks are.....questionable

How do you backstab a dragon.

I always get the oathblade long before I confront Sindig (it's a good weapon for Lydia). I usually let him live since I'm inevitably a Companion by the time I get around to him anyhow and the ring is useful for me. I've killed him before, but, as one poster noted, only on female characters since the armour looks just plain weird on a dude.

I try not to judge him too harshly. There are several kids in Skyrim that I would gladly feed to a Werewolf (I'll bet Arnbjorn would be happy to oblige). If I'm playing a Were I let him go and keep the ring, if playing a "good" character I kill him and get the hide. I've never killed him in jail, but probably will now that I know it's an option. I think I'll do that on my current Nord, who won't accept any daedric quests or goodies.

My precious.

SPOILER: Glitc h There is a glitch. 1, Spare sinding, and after killing the hunters talk to him. 2, dont go outside of the cave to retrieve the uncursed ring from hircine, but instead kill sinding. 3, take sindings pelt, and hircine shows up, but dont talk to him. 4, go outside and get the ring. 5, go back in the cave and get the armor. Now you have 2 cool items + Even though you killed him, sinding stays alive (Self-Experience: After doing this, seen him stalking the roads in many places in werewolf form. On ps3)

Mr Forz

I'm helping. Mostly.

Sinding is a werewolf, his transformations are random, he killed a child. He hates himself everyday for this and I really don't think he'd mind getting killed right away for this, so go ahead, help yourself. It's either that or he ends up secluding himself in that grotto in order to not hurt anyone anymore. What if the victim of that curse was you?

After letting him live I've found him back in his jail cell in Falkreath, in beast form. I've never encountered him out and about, but clearly he didn't do a very good job of staying away from civilization if he ended up back in the hands of the guards. Especially in Falkreath, those guards are pretty dim.

Daelon DuLac said: Funny, but he never seems to seclude himself after the quest if I let him live. I find him wandering about Skyrim all the time. We've made a deal: You live and no killing children. Thalmor, Vigilans of Stendar and Drug dealers only. He seems happy with the arrangement. Click to expand...

Skyrim:Daedric Quests

The Daedric Quests are quests that are completed at the request of one of the Daedric Princes , for some kind of reward, usually a Daedric artifact . Sixteen Daedric Artifacts are available in total (note that the Skeleton Key is not considered to be a Daedric Artifact in Skyrim). Daedric Quests are not considered Side Quests .

Most of the Daedric quests also have an associated "Pointer Quest", which is a miscellaneous quest objective you may be given that leads you to the actual Daedric quest. It is not always necessary to obtain the Pointer Quest before starting the main quest, but it is the most likely way that you will find out about the Daedric quest. In some cases, you can start the actual Daedric quest by simply visiting the shrine or other location where a Daedric worshipper can be found.

Most of the quests can only be removed from your 'to do' journal upon completion. However, a few of the quests can be failed. This is usually achieved by killing the mortal quest giver. For example, upon entering Silus Vesuius' home, you can kill him, resulting in the failure of Pieces of the Past .

Achievements [ edit ]

Achievements related to daedric quests are:

SR-achievement-Daedric Influence.png

  • It is possible to miss this achievement. To receive it, you must not simply complete 15 Daedric Quests, but must also choose the quest ending that gives you the Daedric Artifact.
  • Those which can be completed without receiving an artifact: A Daedra's Best Friend , Pieces of the Past , and Waking Nightmare . See individual quest page for details.
  • Those which can be failed: The Taste of Death , Pieces of the Past , Discerning the Transmundane , and The House of Horrors .
  • Those where an NPC can die before giving you the quest: A Daedra's Best Friend and The Whispering Door .
  • The one which never gives an artifact: Blindsighted (the game considers this quest to be a Thieves Guild quest rather than a Daedric quest, so the Skeleton Key does not count as one of the Daedric artifacts for this achievement).
  • The one which can give two artifacts: Ill Met By Moonlight (both Savior's Hide and Ring of Hircine count as artifacts, and both can be obtained at the same time).
  • You do not need to "possess" the artifacts, just choose the ending that results in the quest adding to your artifacts total. However, all but one of the quests have the incremental scripted to taking possession of an artifact. The odd-one-out is The Cursed Tribe , where the quest ends but the artifact is placed in front of you (rather than in your inventory). You do not need to keep the artifacts once you have them, though they can be used to verify which quests have been completed "correctly".
  • The game tracks the number of Daedric Artifacts and the number of completed Daedric Quests separately. The only statistic visible to the player in-game is the number of "Daedric Quests Completed" (under General Stats). Since the quest statistic is incremented even if you complete a quest without receiving the artifact, it may not reliably indicate your progress towards this achievement.
  • Auriel's Bow DG also counts towards this achievement, despite the fact that it is an Aedric, not Daedric, artifact, and is therefore tied to the plane of Aetherius, rather than the planes of Oblivion.
  • Daedric Artifacts added through the Creation Club do not count towards this achievement. These include the Bittercup CC , the Bow of Shadows CC , the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal CC , Goldbrand CC , Nerveshatter CC , the Ring of Khajiit CC , Scourge CC , Shadowrend CC , the Staff of Sheogorath CC , the Sword of Jyggalag CC , and Umbra CC .

How To Adopt Kids In Skyrim

Quick links, how to adopt a child in skyrim, all adoptable children in honorhall orphanage, all adoptable children skyrim's cities, other adoptable children in skyrim.

Though The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has been available to players for over a decade, even some of the most die-hard fans of the game may be unaware of how surprisingly deep the adoption system is. There are lots of variables and prerequisites before the Dragonborn can adopt a child. In the original release, the only family-building aspect present in-game was the ability to marry an NPC. It wasn't until the introduction of the second Hearthfire DLC that adoption became possible as well.

RELATED: Skyrim: Where To Find The Pets Of Skyrim

There are many different children in Skyrim the player can adopt during their travels, so gamers should have no issue finding the perfect candidate. These children are available for adoption in a number of different ways. Some can be found homeless in major cities , and others are found in the Honorhall Orphanage in Riften . Yet, even that latter option has prerequisites that the player must accomplish first. Lastly, there are over a dozen kids that only become available for adoption after something happens to their in-game parents or guardians.

Updated August 13, 2023, by Justin Flynn: The addition of the Hearthfire DLC made it possible for players to build and decorate their very own homestead. Not only that, but it also allowed players to fill their in-game homes with children if they chose to pursue adoption. While adopting a child in Skyrim serves to make a house feel more lived-in, it also comes with a few additional bonuses that players wouldn't have access to otherwise. Children will often give the Dragonborn gifts whenever they return home, and sometimes an adopted child can even bring home an unusual pet . There are many reasons why adopting a child in Skyrim is a good thing to do, but since the adoption process isn't made overly clear, some players may struggle with figuring out how it works.

The Dragonborn will not be able to adopt a child until they have acquired a house of their own. Any house will suffice, so it's entirely up to the player which property they choose to build or purchase. Once a place of residence has been secured, players will need to either purchase a Child's Room for the house they bought or construct both a Child's Bed and a Dresser for the homestead they built .

Players can build the Child's Bed and Dresser in their homestead by interacting with the Carpenter's Workbench in the room they want their adopted child to sleep in, but those who wish for their child to live in a house they purchased will need to approach the Steward who sold them the house and purchase a Child's Room from them directly .

RELATED: Skyrim: How To Unlock Every Fence

On top of this, players will also need to complete the "Innocence Lost" quest as part of the Dark Brotherhood questline . This quest tasks the Dragonborn with speaking to Aventus Aretino in Windhelm and agreeing to kill Grelod The Kind , the owner of the Honorhall Orphanage in Riften. After some time has passed after completing this quest, the Courier will approach the Dragonborn and give them a letter entitled "Consider Adoption," in which the new owner of Honorhall Orphanage, Constance Michel, will invite the Dragonborn to adopt a child.

So long as the Dragonborn has received the Consider Adoption letter, they can travel to Honorhall Orphanage in Riften and speak to Constance Michel to begin the adoption process . When the conversation is over, the Dragonborn can approach any of the children in Honorhall Orphanage and speak to them to receive the "I could adopt you, if you want" dialogue option. Whichever child the player chooses can then be found back at whatever home the Dragonborn chose to send them.

Players will have the option to choose between four children during their initial visit to Honorhall Orphanage. Each child displays a unique personality, and players are free to speak with each of them before deciding who to adopt.

  • Samuel , an Imperial whose mother worked at the orphanage before dying while in labor, has become the leader of the kids in true Imperial fashion.
  • Francois Beaufort may have a Breton-sounding name but is also an Imperial like Samuel. Francois was left at the orphanage by his parents a year ago and has been waiting for them to return.
  • Hroar is a Nord boy who doesn't share how he came to end up at Honorhall Orphanage but does explain that his mother named him after the roar of a lion, which inspires him to become big and strong.
  • Runa Fair-Shield is a Nord girl who claims the other boys pick on her and force her to do all the chores.

If the player doesn't want to engage with the Dark Brotherhood storyline at all, then there are still several adoption options available. However, just as with the orphanage, the player must still have a home with a Child's Bed and Dresser or Child's Room in order to adopt them. There are initially just four children in four of Skyrim's major cities : Dawnstar, Solitude, Whiterun, and Windhelm, and all the player must do to initiate adoption is ask about their circumstances and how they ended up where they did.

  • In Dawnstar , the player will find Alesan , a Redguard boy who worked on his father's ship. One day, his father became sick, and the pair were left at Dawnstar's port only for the father to die shortly after. Now, Alesan delivers food to local miners in order to survive and sleeps on the floor of the local inn.
  • Sofie is a Nord child in Windhelm and can often be seen wandering around the city selling flowers so she can feed herself. Her mother died when she was young, and her father was in the Stormcloak army before dying in battle.
  • Blaise is a Breton whose parents died in an Imperial Legion ambush. Afterward, Katla took him in to help out at the stables on her farm outside Solitude . She generally doesn't care for him, as Blaise is forced to sleep with the horses he looks after.
  • In Whiterun , players will find the Imperial, Lucia , near the giant Gildergreen tree. She seems to have a similar agreement with Hulda at The Bannered Mare as Blaise does with Katla on her farm. Both can be seen working at their respective locations, but largely without thanks or appreciation. Lucia's mother also owned a farm, but her aunt and uncle kicked her out after the mother's death, and she ended up in Whiterun.

If those eight options don't seem to be the best fit for a specific playthrough, there are fifteen other children that can be adopted . These kids will get sent to Honorhall Orphanage if something happens to their parents. This can either be through the Dragonborn's actions directly or through Dragon and Vampire attacks in Skyrim's cities . It's worth noting that if either guards or the child itself sees the Dragonborn killing their parents, adoption will not be possible .

These children include Braith in Whiterun , Aeta in Skall Village , Britte and Sissel in Rorikstead , Clinton Lylvieve at Dragon Bridge , Dorthe in Riverwood , Eirid at The Frozen Hearth , Erith at Left Hand Mine , Frodnar in Riverwood , Gralnach at Heartwood Mill , Hrefna at Darkwater Crossing , Knud at Katla's Farm, Minette Vinius at The Winking Skeever , Skuli at Old Hroldan Inn , and Svari in Solitude . After the death of their parent or parents, the children will shortly arrive at Honorhall Orphanage with the original four.

Skyrim has always tried to champion player choice and agency, and the huge amount of adoptable children featured in the game is proof of that. The upcoming The Elder Scrolls VI could improve and expand this system in unimaginable ways, in addition to other gameplay systems.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available for PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Just kill him, take his skin, then when the spirit appears, don't talk to it, instead go back to the entrance where Hircine will give you the Ring. Then go back to the spirit of Sinding and get the Savior's Hide.
