Do animals in the afterlife , such as pets, send people signs and messages from heaven? Sometimes they do, but animal communication after death is different from how human souls communicate after they die. If an animal you’ve loved has died and you’d like a sign from him or her, here’s how you may perceive it if God makes it possible for your animal companion to contact you.

A Gift but Not a Guarantee

As much as you want to hear from a beloved animal that has died, you can’t make it happen if it’s not God’s will. Trying to force afterlife communication--or operating outside the trusting relationship with God--is dangerous and can open communication portals to fallen angels with evil motives who may take advantage of your grief to deceive you.

The best way to begin is by praying ; asking God to send a message from you to the departed animal indicating your desire to experience some kind of sign or receive some kind of message from that animal. Express your love wholeheartedly when you pray, since love vibrates powerful electromagnetic energy that can send signals from your soul to the animal’s soul across the dimensions between Earth and heaven.

Once you’ve prayed, open your mind and heart up to receive any communication that may come. But be sure to place your trust in God to arrange that communication at the right times and in the right ways. Be at peace that God, who loves you, will do so if it’s His will.

Margrit Coates, in her book Communicating with Animals: How to Tune into Them Intuitively  writes:

“Animal messengers travel through the dimensions of time and space to be with us. We do not have any control over this process and cannot make it happen, but when the meeting does take place, we are invited to enjoy every second of it.”

Be encouraged that there’s a good chance you’ll hear something from your beloved departed animal. In her book All Pets Go to Heaven: The Spiritual Lives of the Animals We Love , Sylvia Browne writes:

“Just as our loved ones who have passed over watch over us and visit us from time to time, so do our beloved pets. I have received many stories from individuals about dead pets that came back to visit.”

Ways to be Receptive to Communication

The best way to tune in to whatever signs and messages are coming your way from heaven is to develop a close relationship with God and his messengers, angels , through regular prayer and meditation. As you practice spiritual communication, your ability to perceive heavenly messages will grow. Coates in  Communicating with Animals  writes:

“Taking part in meditations can help improve our intuitive awareness so that we are better able to tune in and better communicate with animals in the afterlife.”

It’s also important to remember that strong negative emotions--like those produced from unresolved grief-- create negative energy that interferes with signs or messages from heaven. So, if you’re dealing with anger, worry , or other negative emotions, ask God to help you work through your grief before you try to hear from that animal. Your guardian angel(s) can help you, as well, by giving you fresh ideas for processing your grief and coming to peace with the death of the pet (or other animal) you miss.

Coates suggests even sending a message to the animal in heaven letting it know that you’re struggling but are honestly trying to heal from your grief:

“Unresolved grief and the pressure of strong emotions can create a barrier to intuitive awareness. […] Talk out loud to animals about what is troubling you; bottling up emotions radiates a disturbing energy cloud. […] let the animals know that you are working through your grief towards a goal of contentment.”

Types of Signs and Messages that Animals Send

After you pray, pay attention for God’s help hearing from an animal in heaven.

Signs or messages animals may send to humans from the afterlife:

  • Telepathic messages of simple thoughts or feelings.
  • Scents that remind you of the animal.
  • Physical touch (such as feeling an animal jump up on a bed or sofa).
  • Sounds (like hearing an animal’s voice barking, meowing, etc.).
  • Dream messages (in which an animal usually appears visually).
  • Objects related to an animal’s earthly life moving (such as a pet’s collar inexplicably showing up somewhere you’ll notice it).
  • Written Messages (like reading an animal’s name right after thinking about that animal).
  • Apparitions in visions (these are rare because they require lots of spiritual energy, but they do sometimes happen).

Browne writes in  All Pets Go to Heaven:

“I want people to know that their pets live on and communicate with them in this world and even from the Other Side – not just nonsensical baby talk but real conversation. You’ll be surprised how much telepathy comes to you from the animals you love if you just clear your mind and listen.”

Since afterlife communication happens by means of energy vibrations and animals vibrate at lower frequencies than humans do, it’s not as easy for animal souls to send signs and messages through the dimensions as it is for human souls to do. Therefore, the communication that comes through from animals in heaven tends to be simpler than the communication that people in heaven send.

Usually, animals only have enough spiritual energy to send brief messages of emotion through the dimensions from heaven to earth, writes Barry Eaton in his book No Goodbyes: Life-Changing Insights from the Other Side . Any messages of guidance (which tend to feature many details and therefore require more energy to communicate) that animals send usually come through angels or humans souls in heaven (spirit guides) helping animals deliver those messages. “Higher beings in spirit are capable of bringing their energy through in the form of an animal,” he writes.

If you experience this phenomenon, you may see what is called a totem--a spirit that looks like a dog , cat , bird , horse , or other beloved animals, but is actually an angel or spirit guide manifesting energy in animal form to deliver a message to you on behalf of an animal.

You’re especially likely to experience spiritual encouragement from an animal in heaven during times when you’re most likely to experience help from an angel--when you’re in some kind of danger. Browne writes in All Pets Go to Heaven that the departed animals people have had relationships with sometimes “come around to protect us in dangerous situations.”

Bonds of Love

Since the essence of God is love , love is the most powerful spiritual force that exists. If you’ve loved an animal while it was alive on Earth and that animal loved you, you all will be reunited in heaven because the vibrational energy of the love you’ve shared will bond you together forever. The bond of love also increases the possibility of you being able to perceive signs or messages from the former pets or other animals that were special to you.

Pets and people who have shared bonds of love on Earth will always be connected by the energy of that love. Coates writes in Communicating with Animals:

“Love is very powerful energy, creating its own communication network … When we love an animal a promise is made to us and it is this: My soul will always be linked to your soul. I am with you always. ”

One of the most common ways that departed animals communicate with people is by sending their signature spiritual energy to be with someone they loved on Earth. The goal is to comfort the person they loved who is grieving. When that happens, people will become aware of the animal’s energy because they’ll feel a presence that reminds them of that animal. Eaton in  No Goodbyes writes:

“Animal spirits often come back to spend a lot of time with their former human friends, particularly those people who are on their own and very lonely. They share their energy with their human friends, and along with the person’s guides and spirit helpers [like angels and saints], have their unique role to play in healing.”

Whether or not you receive a sign or message from an animal you love in heaven, you can rest assured that anyone who is connected to you through love will always stay connected to you. Love never dies.

Do Dogs Go to Heaven? And Other Questions You've Wondered About Heaven

What we think about heaven determines how we live today. I can tell you from my own personal experience and from my years of pastoral ministry and Bible teaching, when you study the biblical doctrine of heaven it will stir your heart and change your thoughts. The truth of heaven not only provides anticipation regarding our future, but it also comforts us on behalf of those who have gone before us. Heaven is already a heavily populated land, filled with glorious residents. When we arrive there, we’ll receive a grand welcome.

Here are answers to a few questions about heaven to whet your appetite and direct you to passages in the Bible you’ll want to study on your own.

Are the streets of heaven really paved with gold?

Gates made of pearl, a foundation of precious stones, streets of gold.... We’ve heard these descriptions of heaven—but these heavenly features are directly from the Scriptures. In the book of Revelation, John gives us a glimpse of the New Jerusalem in all its majesty:

She had a great and high wall with twelve gates, and twelve angels at the gates…. The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones:… jasper… sapphire… chalcedony… emerald… sardonyx… sardius… chrysolite… beryl… topaz… chrysoprase… jacinth… amethyst. The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass (Revelation 21:12, 18–21).

This is the New Jerusalem—heaven’s capital—described in Scripture. And one day, we’re going to walk into this holy city in absolute wonder. Even the most beautiful places on earth cannot compare to what God has prepared for those of us who have placed our trust in Him.

Is there a purgatory?

There is no purgatory or middle holding ground for souls where they have a second chance to gain forgiveness for their sins. The Bible teaches that “it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).

The Bible does describe an intermediate heaven. Every believer who died prior to the Ascension of Christ went to this intermediate place called Paradise (also called “Abraham’s bosom” in Luke 16:19–23).

But when Jesus ascended after His death, He entered into Paradise and took all who were there—all the Old Testament saints, all who had died and believed in God before the Ascension—with Him to the third heaven (Ephesians 4:8–10).

This means that believers no longer go to the intermediate heaven upon death. The soul and spirit of today’s believers rise immediately to the third heaven because Paradise is no longer an intermediate place; Paradise is now with God (2 Corinthians 12:2–4).

Do dogs go to heaven?

The Bible does not clearly state whether we will see our pets again in heaven, but Scripture suggests the presence of animals in heaven.

In Isaiah 11:6, we are told that during the Millennial reign of Jesus on earth, “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.” A similar scene is painted later in Isaiah 65:25. It’s clear there will be animals on earth during the Millennium and that predator and prey will live in harmony.

Later, John gives us a glimpse of heaven in Revelation 19:11, 14: “Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war…. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses .” Jesus and His armies will ride white horses to capture Satan and the false prophet and cast them into the lake of fire forever.

It seems clear that there will be animals in heaven. It is uncertain whether the ones we loved on earth will be there. Whatever the case, we know the character of God and His love for us. He gives “good things to those who ask Him” and “gives us richly all things to enjoy” (Matthew 7:11; 1 Timothy 6:17). Heaven will be a place of joy and peace and the richest of blessings as we live in the presence of God and enjoy His good gifts for eternity.

What is the Lamb’s Book of Life, and will my name be in it?

The Bible says that in heaven there is a book called the Lamb’s Book of Life (Revelation 21:27). And the names of all who will be in heaven are recorded in that one book.

William R. Newell, a great Bible scholar, said there are four things to be noted about the Book of Life:

It is the absence of one’s name in the book, not the absence of one’s good works, which dooms a person.

Evil works are not the issue. Many of earth’s greatest sinners’ names are recorded in the Book of Life because they accepted God’s offer of salvation.

Those whose names do not appear in the book are cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:15).

All names found in the Book were written before the Judgment Day. There is no record of names being recorded (decisions being made) on that day. 1

We cannot earn our passage to heaven simply by being a “good person” or by living a “good” life. Ultimately, we will not be granted entrance to heaven unless we repent of our sin and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior—then we can have full confidence that our name is recorded in the Book of Life.

Will we know each other in heaven?

We will be recognizable in heaven, just as Christ was identifiable to His disciples when He returned to earth after His resurrection (John 21:12–13). But we will have new physical bodies that are designed for heaven, not earth.

Because we will be God’s people made over, we will be perfectly compatible with one another and able for the first time ever, to enjoy the intimate fellowship that we all long for in our hearts.

If heaven weren’t exciting enough, imagine having the unlimited opportunity to fellowship with people from all ages of history—even people we’ve only read about in books.

There’s a whole list of people I’d like to meet: David and Joseph and Daniel from the Old Testament, C. S. Lewis, Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Andrew Murray, A. W. Tozer, and many others.

What an incredible time of fellowship! We can’t possibly comprehend it completely, but we’re going to live together in community and be able to have unlimited fellowship with one another for all of eternity.

Do I have a “guardian angel”?

As far as I can determine, there are just two verses in the Bible that indicate there might be guardian angels in the world today. The first is Matthew 18:10: “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.” Apparently, some of God’s angels are assigned to stand ready before the Father to respond instantly to His command for protection and care over these children. Jesus calls these angels “their angels.” And that’s why some people have used this passage as proof that everyone has an angel.

The second passage that seems to support guardian angels is in Acts 12. After Peter was released from jail, he went to the home of Mary where a group of Christians was praying for his release. A servant named Rhoda answered Peter’s knock at the door. She was so excited to hear his voice, she left him outside as she ran to tell the believers Peter was at the door. They didn’t believe her and reasoned the person at the door must be Peter’s angel.

Now those are the only two passages that I’m aware of that allude to the idea of guardian angels. Having said all of that, let me also present to you the other side of the story. While many believers throughout church history have believed in guardian angels, others have rejected the idea, feeling these two texts are not proof enough to construct such a doctrine. Throughout Scripture, there were many times when more than one angel was called into action on behalf of one of God’s chosen. Several angels carried Lazarus’ soul to Abraham’s bosom. And Elisha and his servant were surrounded by many angels. The psalmist writes that all the angels rally for the protection of one saint.

We can’t know with absolute certainty whether each believer has a guardian angel. We do know that God’s angels care about us, and they can intervene in our lives as they are called by God—and that’s a wonderful thought!

How big is heaven?

The Bible doesn’t tell us the full expanse of heaven, but it does give us the measurements of the New Jerusalem, the capital city of heaven. It will easily be able to house all the people who have ever trusted in Christ. And this heavenly city will not be crowded by any means.

In Revelation 21:16, John says, “Its length, breadth, and height are equal,” each “wall” measuring 12,000 furlongs. This means the New Jerusalem is about 1,500 miles high—that’s more than 2 million square miles on the first “floor” alone! And given that this city is cubical, we can assume that it will have more than one level. We cannot fathom the grandeur of this place. It will be unlike anything we have ever seen, and there is no question that it will be able to house every believer who has ever lived.

Can people really go to heaven and return?

It seems every month a new book hits the bestseller list with details about someone’s near–death experience, during which they say they glimpsed scenes of heaven. I take those stories with a grain of salt because they don’t represent our definitive source of information about heaven, which is Scripture.

Only one person in Scripture gives a firsthand account of heaven: the apostle John. That’s how we have the book of Revelation!

Revelation 4:1 tells us John was given a vision of heaven. He saw a door open and found himself peering through a portal into heaven itself. When God allowed John to see a glimpse of the beauty, brilliance, and worship in heaven, he obtained a new perspective on his life here on earth. His exile in Patmos, though difficult, was seen in view of the home that God has prepared for us—a home that is just as real as our temporary dwelling but is inexplicably glorious and will last for all eternity.

Do Dogs Go To Heaven When They Die? Truths From The Bible

Dogs Standing Outside

Losing a pet can be a heartbreaking experience, but it becomes even more challenging for us if we don’t know whether they go to heaven after they die or not.

As animal lovers, many Christians believe that all creatures, including dogs, have a soul just as humans do.

But when it comes to understanding what the Bible says about animals in heaven, the answer isn’t straightforward.

Let’s explore the biblical perspective on dogs’ afterlife to help Christians find comfort and hope in their faith.

Where Do Dogs Go When They Die?

First, it is crucial to understand that the Bible doesn’t explicitly answer the question of whether dogs go to heaven.

However, the Bible points to eternal life for believers in Christ, and it mentions animals as partakers of the resurrection.

For example, Isaiah 11:6-9 speaks of a time when animals will no longer be wild or prey on each other, indicating a peaceful environment that could include pets.

Furthermore, Revelation 19:14-16 describes the return of Jesus Christ with His armies, including horses, giving insight that animals are present in the afterlife, perhaps even pets.

Mentioning of Dogs in The Bible

Second, it is worth noting that the Bible calls dogs by name a few times and typically in an honorable and endearing way.

For example, in Proverbs 26:17, the message is that, like a dog who returns to his vomit(when repeating sinful behavior), so does a fool who repeats his folly.

Still, in other places, like Job 30:1, the author uses dog to describe himself.

This passage indicates a much higher view of dogs, as it characterizes them as loyal companions.

The Idea of Our Pets Reconnecting With us

Third, one misconception people may have about pets in the afterlife is that their pets die with them and are resurrected with them.

While this may bring comfort, the concept of “soul sleep,” where your loved ones and animals stay in a state of unconsciousness until the resurrection, contradicts scripture.

Human souls and animal souls might be different, so we can’t assume that the same rules apply to both when it comes to the afterlife, but we cannot say.

Seeing Our Pets Running Around happily

Fourth, some people’s pick is the notion of animals having their own wilderness, where they get to run and play, free from harm, with other fellow animals that have passed away.

This view, often called the “rainbow bridge,” is something many of us and people of faith find comfort in it .

What Scripture says dogs go to heaven?

While there is no explicit verse that states “dogs go to heaven,” there are numerous passages in Scripture that speak to the possibility of animals and pets being a part of heaven .

One that often comes to mind is Ecclesiastes 3:21, which reads, “Who knows if the human spirit rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”

Another verse that provides comfort is Revelation 21:4, which promises that in heaven, “There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Regardless of what specific verses we may choose to focus on, it’s clear that God loves all of his creation and always has a plan for his children, both human, and animal alike.

And there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that God will welcome all of His creations into His eternal home.

Will I see my dog in heaven when I die?

For Christians, the question of whether or not our beloved pets will be joining us in heaven is a common one.

While the Bible doesn’t offer any straightforward answers on the subject, many believers take comfort in the notion that God’s love extends to all creation great and small, and that the bonds we form with our pets in this life may well carry over into the next.

Ultimately, the answer to this question may be different for everyone, but one thing is for certain: the love we share with our pets in this life is a gift that transcends time and space, and that bond will never truly be broken.

So while we may not know for sure, we can hope that one day we will be reunited with our loyal, tail-wagging friends in heaven.

Where does a dog’s soul go after death?

Many people believe that dogs go to a special place in the afterlife where they are reunited with their owners and can run and play as much as they want.

It is also believed that dogs have the ability to guide us from beyond the grave, offering comfort and protection when we need it most.

While we may never know for certain where a dog’s soul goes after death, one thing is certain: their love and loyalty will stay with us forever.

What does the Bible say about losing a pet?

The Bible does not specifically address losing a pet, it does offer comfort and guidance for those who are grieving.

One source of solace can be found in Psalm 34:18, which reads, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

This passage reminds us that God is with us in our moments of deepest sorrow and that he cares for us deeply.

Additionally, Ecclesiastes 3:19-20 reminds us that all creatures have a divine spark and that in death, the physical body returns to the dust from which it was formed.

Though difficult to accept, this passage can help us find peace in the knowledge that our pets are resting in the loving arms of the Creator.

We Must Never Lose Hope About Seeing Our Pets Again

In conclusion, the Bible doesn’t explicitly say whether dogs or any other pets go to heaven or continue in existence in the afterlife.

While there is no clear answer to this question, we can take comfort in knowing that God knows our grief, especially in the loss of a devoted pet, and is steadfast in His love and care for all His creations.

As pet owners, whether or not we can expect to see our beloved pets again, we can treasure the time we had with them and the love and joy they brought into our lives.

We can place our hope in the promise of eternal life and find comfort in knowing that God’s goodness extends to all His creations, including our pets.
