The new dates kick off at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on July 15th and culminate with a two-night stint at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on November 19th and 20th. Tickets go on sale on June 30th, with presale tickets available to American Express card members beginning on Wednesday at noon local time.

“Hello, all you wonderful fans out there. Two Auckland, New Zealand, shows are also planned for January 27th and 28th, 2023, with the four-year tour concluding sometime in 2023 in Australia with a string of shows to be announced at a later date.

“Whether it’s next summer in Frankfurt or at the legendary Dodger Stadium for the grand finale in the United States, I can’t wait to see you all on the road one last time,” John added. “This has been an incredible tour so far, full of the most amazing highs, and I look forward to making more wonderful memories with you at these final shows. To all my friends down under: We’ll be seeing you, too. Thank you and I look forward to seeing you in your town.”

Elton John announces new Houston date for his final tour

ABCNews logo

HOUSTON, Texas -- After postponing several shows because of the coronavirus pandemic, Elton John is saying hello to the yellow brick road of touring.

The pop icon announced Wednesday that his "Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour" will return to North America on Jan. 19, 2022, in New Orleans. John also announced rescheduled 2022 dates for Houston, Detroit, New York City, Miami, Toronto and Montreal.

According to the star's website , the Houston show will take place on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022 at the Toyota Center.

In July, John announced new dates in Europe. His global tour will officially return on Sept. 1, 2021 in Berlin.

"I've been enjoying my time at home with the family while the world navigates its way through the COVID pandemic. But, I really miss being on the road and performing for my beloved fans in my Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour," John said. "While the scientists are making great progress, we are making big plans for a return to touring that will allow us to ensure the health and safety of everyone."

The Oscar, Grammy and Tony-winning star's final tour kicked off to a sold-out audience in September 2018.

Original tickets will be honored at the rescheduled performances.

Elton John

Three and a half years after Elton John announced his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road: The Final Tour,” after an unavoidable pandemic delay, he has finally unveiled the closing stadium dates of that tour. It will make a final lap across Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand next year after the conclusion of the arena dates rescheduled from 2020 . The rescheduled 2020 dates begin in Germany on Sept. 1 and cover North America from January to April 2022.

The final stretch will kick off on May 27, 2022 in Germany, then move to North America, beginning in Philadelphia in July, and will wrap in November with a pair of dates at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, the site of an iconic Elton performance some 47 years earlier. 2023 kicks off with two shows in Auckland New Zealand on January 27 and 28, followed by soon-to-be-announced dates in Australia before the tour formally concludes there later that year. The tour will end nearly five years after its opening date in Allentown, Pennsylvania on September 8, 2018.

The full list of newly announced dates is below; see the rescheduled 2020 dates here .

Announcing the final dates, Elton John said, “Hello, all you wonderful fans out there. I’m coming to you today with an announcement I’ve been working towards for, well, all my life: the shows that I announce today will be my final tour dates ever in North America and Europe. I’m going to go out in the biggest possible way, performing at my very best, with the most spectacular production I’ve ever had, playing in places that have meant so much to me throughout my career. Whether it’s next summer in Frankfurt or at the legendary Dodger Stadium for the grand finale in the United States, I can’t wait to see you all on the road one last time. This has been an incredible tour so far, full of the most amazing highs, and I look forward to making more wonderful memories with you at these final shows. To all my friends down under, We’ll be seeing you too. Thank you and I look forward to seeing you in your town.”

The show is a crowd-pleasing tour de force of his biggest hits, designed to tug at the audience’s heartstrings as well as Elton’s own. Variety , reviewing the tour’s 70th show in New York in March of 2019, wrote: “He drops in enough deep cuts to keep the musicians and veteran fans on their toes (the second song he played was the 1973 deep cut “All the Girls Love Alice”), yet the set was so packed with hits that he’d reeled off “Bennie and the Jets,” “Tiny Dancer,” “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues,” “Border Song” and “Philadelphia Freedom” in the first half hour, and he’d barely scraped the surface.”

While this may be his final tour, it seems unlikely that it marks the end of Elton’s career as a performer — an irrepressible showman and die-hard music fan (who manages to host a remarkably contemporary weekly radio show , with an emphasis on new artists, on Apple Music 1), he will probably play spot dates and make television and other appearances for as long as he feels able.

For the US, Canada and UK dates, American Express Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public. Presale details are included in the tour routing below.

Public on-sales begin Tuesday, June 29 in Europe and Wednesday, June 30 in North America.

Ahead of the stadium run, Elton will mark his return to the stage this Fall in Europe on September 1 at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Berlin, then later to North America on January 19, 2022 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.

3 Farewell Tours That Weren’t The End After All

A h, farewell tours. They don’t usually stick, do they? It seems like each and every year there’s a whole lineup of big-name artists who announce that they are kicking off final farewell tours, only to come back the next year with an even more final-er farewell tour.

While the finality of farewell tours rarely sticks, there have been a few career-ending tours that fans really, really didn’t want to happen, and some that seemed far too premature. And luckily, those artists decided to continue their careers instead of ending. Let’s look at three instances of farewell tours that weren’t the end after all!

1. Elton John, 1977

Can you imagine an alternate universe where Elton John’s career ended in 1977? It was almost part of our reality when the English singer and pianist announced his final show at Wembley Empire Pool in London.

While performing, John told the crowd that very night would be the last show of his career. He noted: “There’s a lot more to me than playing on the road and this is the last one I’m going to do.”

Luckily, his career didn’t end there. He took two years off and returned to music after dealing with his drug abuse issues, according to The Rocket Man himself.

[ See Electric Light Orchestra on Their Final Tour in 2024 ]

2. Motley Crue, 2014

This is one of those farewell tours that weren’t the end that wasn’t that surprising. Back in 2014, the famed glam metal band announced their final tour. The last show of their careers was meant to be at Staples Center in Los Angeles in 2015. According to Nikki Stix, it was because of him.

“Legally, we can’t play again,” the bassist had said at the time. “The only loophole is if all four band members agreed to do it, we could override our own contract. But we know that will never happen. There are people in this band who will refuse to ever do it again, and you’re talking to one of them. There is no amount of money that would ever make me do it again because I have such pride in how we’re ending it.

Motley Crue did take six years off from touring. However, they reunited again to capitalize off of their Netflix documentary The Dirt . They’re still touring today, albeit with some drama .

3. Ozzy Osbourne, 1992

Black Sabbath icon Ozzy Osbourne quite comically announced the No More Tours Tour back in 1992. The final performance of his career would be at Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, California. On the subject, Osbourne had said that he was exhausted, wanted to enjoy his home and car, and wanted to spend more time with his family.

Osbourne took three years off, and in 1994 made his return to the music industry with a simple statement: “Retirement sucked.” Now, he’s officially retired .
