Touring Australia’s Largest Brewery
No beer company has left more of an impact on Australia than XXXX, established as Castlemaine Perkins Brewery in 1878. Since then they’ve become a national icon, creating some of the most clever advertisements. You can visit their Brisbane brewery, where all of their selections are made before ending the tour in the Ale House. In addition to their famous XXXX Gold, try the XXXX Summer Ale and XXXX Bitter, as well as more craft selections from James Squire.
Brewery tours at XXXX are 90 minutes long and end with a beer tasting with four beers. The brewery recommends visitors make an advanced reservation, due to COVID safety measures. The tour costs $32 AUD per adult and are available Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Dogfish to debut beer and cheese tours
Tours of Dogfish Head’s Milton brewery draw beer lovers from all over the country, but now, Dogfish is set to unveil a new tour that will add a little cheese to proceedings.
Dogfish will start its beer and cheese tasting tours this summer, but select Dogfish fans were allowed to take part in a trial tour April 29.
Led by Dogfish ambassador Tara Bowden, the tour starts with a short walk through Dogfish’s Brewhouse 1 – the regular tour goes through the larger Brewhouse 2 – and through the barrel-aging area, which currently has barrel-aged 120 Minute IPA, to the research and development wing of the brewery. R&D has its own separate brewhouse, where small-batch beers can be tested before going into larger production. The R&D brewhouse now has a bar area with a cheese fridge underneath. Longtime Dogfish fans will recognize the bar, which has been crafted together out of the bar top at Dogfish’s original brewpub in Rehoboth Beach.
The cheese for the tasting comes from Cabot Creamery in Vermont, with meats – sopressata, pepperoni and salami – and crackers made available. The first pairing was Orne Meadows cheddar cheese with Slightly Mighty, Dogfish’s low-calorie IPA. The Orne Meadows cheese has a light, creamy taste to it, which paired with Slightly Mighty gives a very sessionable experience.
The most popular pairing for the assembled group was Lamberton cheddar cheese with Dogfish’s soon-to-be-released Mandarin and Mango Crush beer. The sharpness of the Lamberton cheese plays well off the fruitiness of the beer, which Bowden said would be released for wide distribution this summer. The beer was inspired by crush cocktails and is sort of a hybrid where it is not as sugary as a sour, but lighter than a pale ale or IPA.
The final pairing was Private Stock cheddar cheese with Blue Hen pilsner, which was the second most popular pairing with the group. The crispness of the pilsner plays off the tartness of the cheese.
A final, surprise cheese was an Everything Bagel cheddar cheese, which gave the flavor of the bagel with a light cheddar cheese.
Bowden, who helped create the tour, said the pairings are subject to change when the tour opens to the general public. The intention is to offer the tour for small groups of no more than seven or eight people.
Weekend of Compelling Ales and Spirits set for May 7
From 3 to 7 p.m., Saturday, May 7, Dogfish will host the return of the Weekend of Compelling Ales and Spirits after a two-year hiatus brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Formerly known as the Weekend of Compelling Ales and Whatnot, the event has now added a spirits component to what has traditionally been a showcase for some of the wilder beers in Dogfish’s catalog.
The event will have 13 beers on tap and three cocktail options plus food pairings, music and bottle releases. General admission tickets cost $65 and include a sample tasting glass, and beer and food samples. VIP access is $100 and includes early entry, distillery tastings and a discussion between Dogfish founder Sam Calagione and the team from Gastro Obscura, which collaborated on Fermentation Engastration, which will be released during the weekend.
Tickets and additional information can be found at dogfish.com/wocaas.

This central PA brewery's tour was named nation's best. See how to visit, sample beer
Mar. 15—A beloved Pennsylvania brewery is once again earning national recognition.
Tröegs Independent Brewing received the top spot among the best brewery tours in the U.S., according to USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards. Nominees in each category are selected by 10Best editors and topic experts before they are presented to the public for four weeks of online voting.
Here's what you need to know about Tröegs and the best places for craft beer in Pennsylvania.
Tröegs Independent Brewing claims top brewery tour honor
Located in Hershey, just east of Harrisburg, Tröegs Independent Brewing launched in 1996 with a name that plays on co-founders John and Chris Trogner's last name and the Dutch word "kroeg," meaning "pub."
Tröegs operates as a craft brewery with an emphasis on producing specialty and seasonal beers. The brewery was founded in Harrisburg and moved to Hershey in 2011 following the construction of a new facility.
The brewery's award-winning tour offers behind-the-scenes access to Tröegs' mill room, hop cooler, brewhouse deck, fermentation cellars and packaging lines, among other locations. Guests can also peruse an "Art of Tröegs" gallery and receive a free beer of their choice, three samples of Tröegs selections and an exclusive souvenir glass.
"Our tours meander through our working production brewery so you can see how our beer is actually made and the people to make it happen," Tröegs wrote on its website. "If you're uncomfortable climbing and descending multiple stairs, standing for extended periods or spending time in extreme heat or cold, we would encourage you to check out our self-guided tour."
Each 10-person tour takes roughly one hour to complete and costs $15 per person, Tröegs says online. Minors and children are not allowed to join tours, and of-age guests must make sure to bring along a valid ID and wear closed-toed shoes.
According to Tröegs' online booking system, tours are offered Thursday through Sunday each week from late morning through the evening. You can book a tour online by visiting troegs.com/brewery-tours .
Tröegs is known for some of its staple beers like Perpetual IPA and and Troegenator Double Bock. Some popular seasonal flavors include Nugget Nectar, Mad Elf Ale, Oktoberfest Lager and Double Blizzard.
Tröegs' production tour claimed the top spot among USA Today 10Best's "Best Brewery Tour" honors in early March. This year's honorees from across the country were nominated by a panel of beer experts, the outlet said.
Here's a full look at the top 10 brewery tours in the country, according to the 10Best survey:

Best brewery tour: See which Michigan beer maker made USA Today’s top 10

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — In 1985, Larry Bell opened Kalamazoo Brewing Co. and began brewing Great Lakes Amber Ale out of a 15-gallon soup pot.
Fast forward 39 years and Bell’s beer is now sold in 50 states and Puerto Rico. The brewery was also just named to USA Today’s 10 Best List of brewery tours in the U.S.
It’s the only Michigan spot on the list, landing at No. 6.
In 1993, Bell’s became the first Michigan craft brewery to sell beer by the glass since prohibition when it started selling Beer at its Eccentric Café at 335 E. Kalamazoo Ave. Now, Bell’s brews the bulk of its beer out of a 200,000 square-foot facility in Comstock Township.
The main brewing facility, which has undergone multiple expansions since opening in 2002, is located seven miles east of the Eccentric Café and B1 brewing facility in downtown Kalamazoo.
When it comes to touring the two facilities, at 335 E. Kalamazoo Ave. in Kalamazoo and 8938 Krum Ave. in Comstock Township, there aren’t many brewery tours out there that are better, according to USA Today.
The national publication released its “10 Best” list for brewery tours in the U.S. on Friday, March 8.
Referring to Bell’s as “one of the oldest craft breweries east of Colorado,” the publication highlighted that visitors can tour facilities in Comstock Township and Kalamazoo. At both stops, visitors can “learn more about the processes of brewing, fermentation and packaging,” the 10 Best report states.
Tours of the Comstock facility also include three complimentary samples.
