Compliance status

We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone, and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of circumstance and ability.

To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level. These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible to all people: blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.

This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.

Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML, adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.

If you’ve found a malfunction or have ideas for improvement, we’ll be happy to hear from you. You can reach out to the website’s operators by using the following email

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation

Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements, alongside console screenshots of code examples:

Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website.

These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.

Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside it.

Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over seven different coloring options.
  • Animations – person with epilepsy can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

Browser and assistive technology compatibility

We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers).

Notes, comments, and feedback

Despite our very best efforts to allow anybody to adjust the website to their needs. There may still be pages or sections that are not fully accessible, are in the process of becoming accessible, or are lacking an adequate technological solution to make them accessible. Still, we are continually improving our accessibility, adding, updating and improving its options and features, and developing and adopting new technologies. All this is meant to reach the optimal level of accessibility, following technological advancements. For any assistance, please reach out to

Red Hot Summer Tour @ Cairns Showground

HUNTERS & COLLECTORS, JAMES REYNE, THE LIVING END, THE ANGELS, BABY ANIMALS, KILLING HEIDI & BOOM CRASH OPERA

Tickets go on sale from 10am local time thursday 14 th  october 2021.

The RED HOT SUMMER TOUR is back in 2022 to sort  Unfinished Business  with the return of its 10 th  anniversary line-up headlined by ARIA Hall of Fame inductees Hunters & Collectors, with special guests James Reyne, The Living End, The Angels, Baby Animals, Killing Heidi and Boom Crash Opera. With dates from February to May 2022, the tour will visit New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland.

Organisers are excited to announce the 2022 tour, something they have been working on solidly for the past 18-months. “We are thrilled to be able to return to the stage in 2022 with this magnificent line-up and revisit many of the shows that were lost to COVID,” says promoter Duane McDonald. “We continue to be blown away by the support we have received from audiences. To everyone who has and continues to support us and the live music industry, you are the reason we do what we do and keep creating these memories. We can’t wait to see you in 2022.”

Returning to the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR stage in 2022 ,  Hunters & Collectors  performances are a rare thing indeed and a huge coup for music fans. The legendary band disbanded over two decades ago and have only performed again a handful of times since – notably at The Sound Relief Concert in 2009 and a brief run five years ago. Banding together again specifically for the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR is apt, considering that Hunters & Collectors voracious live performances are so well suited in a festival environment. With smash hit songs such as  When The River Runs Dry, Say Goodbye, Do You See What I See, True Tears Of Joy, Holy Grail  and the anthemic  Throw Your Arms Around Me , Hunters & Collectors have sold over one million albums spawning 19 hit singles.

James Reyne  has been treading the boards in the rock halls of Australian music for decades. From his time fronting the legendary Australian Crawl through to his successful solo career, James’ music is part of Australian history. As a prolific songwriter and strong vocalist, it’s no surprise that James has won accolade after accolade for his contribution to music. When Australian Crawl split in the mid-1980s, James embarked on a successful solo career. James Reye stands alone within an elite cluster of exclusive Australian performers.

The Living End  are considered Australian rock royalty, and for good reason. Their blistering live performances have seen them perform far and wide, and their reputation precedes them, they rock from the first note to the last. When The Living End first smashed onto the scene in 1997 with their double-A single  Prisoner of Society  and  Second Solution , they embraced a new Australian sound and fans and critics sat up and listened. Since then they have released seven studio albums, two of which have debuted at #1 on the ARIA Chart – four of those are Platinum and two are Gold. They have been nominated for an incredible 27 ARIA Awards.

When it comes to great Aussie rock, it doesn’t come much better than  The Angels . It’s been over four decades since brothers Rick and John Brewster co-founded the iconic band and have penned some of Australia’s most anthemic tracks. The Angels are widely reputed for their killer live shows. With hits like  Long Line, Marseille, Be With You, After the Rain, Shadow Boxer  and  Mr Damage  to name a few. Audiences have always loved seeing The Angels on the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR and 2022 promises to really rock!

Baby Animals  burst onto the Australian scene in the 1990s with a solid rock force and a sassy lead singer. Suze DeMarchi proved that girls could rock just as hard as guys and the Baby Animals soon kicked some impressive rock butt with hits such as  Rush You, Early Warning  and  One Word . The band scored themselves ARIA awards for best album and toured the globe. When they split in the mid-1990s they ended a special era of Australian music. The band’s recent reformation and inclusion again on the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR line-up is an opportunity for music fans to see their original rock at its best.

Killing Heidi  celebrated an auspicious anniversary in 2020, two decades since the release of their rock-pop debut  Reflector . The smash hit singles – including  Weir  and  Mascara  – embedded the album in Australian music history, took out four ARIA awards and reached four times platinum status. It also catapulted Killing Heidi and its teen musicians – Ella and Jesse Hooper – into international superstar status. The Hooper siblings were revered for their songwriting prowess and their subsequent albums earned them critical acclaim.

In 2020,  Boom Crash Opera  celebrated the 30 th  anniversary of their ARIA Top 10 album  These Are Crazy Times,  which spawned smash singles such as  Onion Skin, The Best Thing, Talk About It, Get Out Of The House  and  Dancing In The Storm . Audiences at the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR will be treated to all the hits, with Dale Ryder at the helm, including  Hands Up In The Air, Her Charity, Love Me To Death  and  Great Wall  to name a few. Boom Crash Opera certainly make any festival a party and the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR in 2022 will be unforgettable.

The RED HOT SUMMER TOUR is always a sell-out and bringing this massive line up back to the stage in 2022 will see tickets go fast! With some of these shows rescheduled from 2020, there are only limited tickets available. Don’t miss these very special shows.

Tickets go on sale at 10am local time on Thursday 14 th  October 2021 via Ticketmaster. Tickets are only available through authorised ticket outlets listed. Patrons are advised not to purchase tickets from Viagogo or other Third Party Sellers, as fraudulent tickets will not be honoured.

Red Hot Summer has grown again with a new show added for Cairns.

We continue to work with governments and stakeholders to make sure that we can continue the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR in 2021, and to ensure that all the shows are delivered in a COVID-safe way.”

These shows see Barnes return to the stage following his admission to hospital on 27 November last year with bacterial pneumonia requiring open heart surgery.

It’s now been a little over 9 weeks since the surgery and as fans have seen through his social media posts and his recent 60 Minutes interview, his road to recovery has been inspirational with doctors giving him the all clear to start preparing for his return to the stage.

Bloodlines are releasing a limited edition sand-coloured vinyl reissue of Flesh and Wood , celebrating 30 years since the release of Jimmy’s much-loved seventh solo studio album. All vinyl copies will be personally signed by Jimmy and are available for pre-order now from here .

Flesh and Wood was Jimmy’s seventh solo album and entered the Australian charts at #2 in December 1993. It went on to garner triple platinum sales, spending eight weeks in the Top 10 and four months in the Top 50. Flesh and Wood featured duets with the likes of Joe Cocker, Diesel, Ross Wilson, Don Walker, The Badloves and Archie Roach, with four singles released from the album: The Weight , a Top 10 hit, followed by You Can’t Make Love Without A Soul , Still Got A Long Way To Go and It Will Be Alright .

Jimmy said, “ I’ve visited all my doctors now and they all tell me the same thing. I am ready to rock. I’ve been in my gym every day (sometimes twice a day) and I feel fitter and stronger with each passing day. My band are chomping at the bit and just like me, they can’t wait to hit the stage. So bring on the tour! Get your tickets soon because it seems a lot of you are keen to come out and celebrate with us and I wouldn’t want you to miss out. See you on the road.”

The Red Hot Summer Tour returns in 2021 with a COVID-safe festival sporting a massive line-up of Australian artists. Headlined by long-time supporters of the Red Hot Summer Tour, Jimmy Barnes, Hoodoo Gurus, Jon Stevens, Diesel, Vika & Linda and Chris Cheney, the dates scheduled for Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland are the first to be announced for the 2021 tour. New South Wales and Victoria will be added to the tour pending further easing of restrictions.

Promoter Duane McDonald says the return of the festival in 2021 has been a result of continuous hard-work to ensure the tour can be presented in a COVID-safe manner, and can continue to support the incredible music scene within Australia. “We were disappointed to cancel much of the 2020 tour,” he says. “But safety was, and always is, our first priority. We continue to work with governments and stakeholders to make sure that we can continue the Red Hot Summer Tour in 2021, and to ensure that all the shows are delivered in a COVID-safe way. We look forward to being able to announce more dates on the 2021 shortly, with Victoria and New South Wales joining the itinerary.”

Bringing together an enviable line-up of Aussie acts was paramount for the organisers, and Duane says everyone on board for the 2021 run can’t wait. “We are excited to have the opportunity to hit the road in 2021 bringing some great music experiences that the Red Hot Summer Tour has been sharing with audiences for over a decade,” he says. “Bringing together our mates in the music industry and taking the tour around Australia has always been special, but next year’s run is going to mean a lot to everyone. 4 Days in Cairns Itinerary + Travel Guide 2024

Visiting Cairns in far north Queensland is a highlight of travelling in Australia . With 4 days in Cairns, you’ll see the Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef system in the world, relax in paradise on a gorgeous tropical island, explore the regional city of Cairns, and experience Australia’s unique and ancient rainforests.

Cairns has a lot to offer visitors who venture to the far north of the country.

While Cairns is best known as the gateway to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, if you travel inland, you’ll find lush green forests with plunging waterfalls, deep gorges and crocodile-infested rivers.

You can fill 4 days in Cairns with exciting, adventurous activities or you can simply relax on the beach at beautiful Palm Cove or escape to the  stunning tropical islands of the Great Barrier Reef   just offshore in the Coral Sea.

In this 4 day Cairns itinerary, you’ll see the best sights and the most beautiful scenery that the area has to offer.  I’ve also included some alternative activity suggestions to help you tailor the trip to your interests.

Things to do in Cairns in 4 days

  • Explore the city of Cairns
  • Stroll along the Cairns Esplanade & Lagoon
  • Visit the Cairns Botanical Gardens
  • Relax at Palm Cove Beach
  • Discover Cairns Museum
  • Visit the Cairns Aquarium
  • Shop at the Cairns Night market
  • Get an adrenaline fix at the Cairns Wildlife Dome
  • Relax on gorgeous Green Island
  • Catch the ferry to stunning Fitzroy Island
  • Snorkel in the Falkland Islands
  • Snorkel or dive on the outer Great Barrier Reef
  • Visit Port Douglas
  • Visit Kuranda village on the Skyrail Cableway & Scenic Railway.
  • Explore Mossman Gorge and the Daintree Rainforest
  • Take a Crocodile cruise on the Daintree River

Cairns 4 day itinerary

Day 1 in cairns – exploring cairns city.

If you enjoy walking you can explore Cairns on foot, stroll around the waterfront and along the  Cairns Esplanade , stop for a swim at the Esplanade  Lagoon , and watch the helicopters taking off from the helipad and the ferries coming and going from the  Marlin Wharf.

Cairns Esplanade path with skyline in background

Stop for a coffee or a bite to eat at one of the restaurants on the waterfront, then choose from the following attractions to fill the rest of the day:

Cairns Aquarium

Visit the Cairns Aquarium to discover the marine ecosystems and habitats of Tropical North Queensland and see the beautiful array of underwater wildlife from colourful fish to reef sharks and manta rays.

Cairns Botanic Gardens

The Cairns Botanic Gardens is a delight to visit in the leafy suburb of Edge Hill.

The displays of tropical plants are the best in Australia, and you can stroll through the gardens under a lush green canopy, along butterfly-lined pathways and relax amongst the beautiful tropical greenery.

Cairns Museum

At the Cairns Museum, the history and culture of Cairns City are on display, and you’ll discover what it’s like to live in the tropics with coral reefs, sugarcane fields and rainforests on the doorstep. You’ll learn about how the area was settled and the history of the railways in the area.

Cairns Zoom and Wildlife Dome

At Cairns Zoom and Wildlife Dome , you’ll find a wildlife park with activities for more adventurous travellers.

Enjoy the thrill of a zipline, a power jump, rope and climbing courses with spectacular views from the top of the dome. In the wildlife park, you can get up close and personal with the native Australian wildlife.

Cairns Night Market

Open from 4:30 pm every night, the Cairns Night Market is a fun place to shop for souvenirs and grab a bite to eat.

Located on Abbott Street, the night market has around 70 stalls, a food court and a selection of restaurants.

Day 2 in Cairns – Great Barrier Reef outer reef trip

No 4 day Cairns itinerary is complete without a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Great Barrier Reef.

On an outer reef day trip , you’ll have the opportunity to snorkel or scuba dive in some of the best spots on the reef and enjoy the beautiful underwater world of colourful fish and coral and a variety of sea creatures.

Endangered sea turtles live on the reef along with sharks, rays, giant clams and much more.

Kayaking On The Waters Off Lady Musgrave Island

Day 3 in Cairns – Rainforest Visit

Kuranda skyrail cableway and scenic railway.

On day 3 of your 4 days in Cairns, it’s time to travel inland to the UNESCO World Heritage rainforest just outside Cairns.

Ride the scenic  Skyrail   Cableway   to Kuranda and travel above the rainforest canopy enjoying the dramatic scenery of  Barron Gorge.

Stop off along the way to see spectacular  waterfalls  and explore the village of  Kuranda.

There are lots of shops and markets to enjoy at Kuranda village and, after a leisurely lunch and a rainforest walk, ride back to Cairns on the  Scenic Railway .

Along the way, you’ll learn about the history of the area and the difficulties of building a railway track through the thick rainforests of Barron Gorge.

Kuranda railway station

The Daintree Rainforest & Mossman Gorge

Alternatively, you can join a day tour to The Daintree Rainforest and visit the gorgeous  Mossman Gorge , see  crocodiles in their natural habitat on the  Daintree River  and enjoy the stunning coastal scenery of  Cape Tribulation  where the rainforest meets the reef.

A remote wilderness area that lies around 100 kilometres north of Cairns, much of the  wild and beautiful Daintree Rainforest   is inaccessible but it is possible to visit this protected wilderness area on a day trip from Cairns.

Day 4 in Cairns – Tropical Island Day Trip

Visiting a tropical island paradise on the Great Barrier Reef is one of the best things to do in Cairns. Several gorgeous islands lie just offshore and are fabulous to visit for a day (or several days) of snorkelling, swimming, sunbathing and exploring.

You can meet Cassius the crocodile on  Green Island  or learn more about endangered sea turtles at the Turtle Rehabilitation Centre on  Fitzroy Island .

Both  Green Island & Fitzroy Island  are easy to reach by ferry from the Cairns waterfront and you can snorkel from the beach, swim with turtles and enjoy the incredible underwater world of the Reef on both these lovely islands.

The Falklands Islands are also easily accessible from Cairns. If you can stay more than 4 days in Cairns, why not visit more than one of these beautiful tropical islands?

How to get to Cairns

Flying into cairns.

Because of the long distances involved in travelling to Cairns, the easiest way to get there is to fly.

Cairns has an International Airport with daily flights to capital cities and popular locations around Australia and overseas.

Driving to Cairns

Cairns is around 1,700 kilometres from Brisbane and around 2,400 kilometres from Sydney so it’s a long trip by car that will take several days.

If you want to explore the area by car, the easiest way, with only 4 days in Cairns, is to travel by air and hire a car at the airport when you arrive.

Getting to Cairns by Train

Travelling overland by train is a comfortable way to reach Cairns and The Spirit of Queensland connects Cairns with Brisbane. The trip takes 24 hours by train with connections in Brisbane to other states and cities throughout Australia.

TIP: Consider stopping off en route and exploring other places in Queensland before starting this Cairns 4 day itinerary.

Getting to Cairns by Bus

Greyhound and Premier buses are the cheapest way to travel to Cairns and around Australia. Regular coach services connect Cairns with Brisbane and the trip takes around 29 hours by bus. You can check times and prices on BusBud.

Best time to visit Cairns

The best time of year to spend 4 days in Cairns is from June to October. It’s the dry season and it’s the best time for swimming and snorkelling because there are no stingers in the water.

But the shoulder seasons in April/May and September/October can also be a good time to go because there are cheaper flights and fewer tourists.

The tropical climate in Cairns brings dry weather in winter with the wet season during the summer months.

But the winter weather in Cairns is typically warm and sunny with highs of 26°C (79°F), and lows of 18°C (64°F). And the water temperature in winter is a balmy 25°C (77°F), perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

The summer months from December to February are hot and wet with high humidity. Summer is also stinger season and, although swimming is possible if you wear a lycra stinger suit, it’s best to stay out of the water in summer to avoid the dangerous Irukandji jellyfish.

Where to stay in Cairns

Cairns has a wide selection of accommodation for all budgets and here are a few suggestions for where to stay.

Luxury  – The Hilton Hotel in Cairns  is a 5-star hotel right in the centre of town. This hotel is located on the waterfront, close to attractions and a selection of dining options. The location of this popular luxury hotel near the Esplanade and the ferry wharf is unbeatable.

Mid-Range  – The Coral Tree Inn is a good mid-range choice in Cairns city centre and gets exceptional reviews. It’s friendly, quiet, clean, and a 15-minute walk to the waterfront

Budget  – YHA Cairns Central has a great location in the heart of Cairns near shops, cafes and restaurants. This friendly hostel has comfortable common areas, a pool, and a BBQ area.

In short: 4 days in Cairns

There are so many fun things to do in Far North Queensland and 4 days in Cairns is enough time to experience the highlights of the city and the surrounding area, snorkel or dive on the Great Barrier Reef, spend a day on a tropical island and discover the beautiful rainforests.

Cairns has something for everyone along with all the services you need for a comfortable holiday.

I loved visiting Cairns in Far North Queensland, and I think you’ll enjoy this Cairns 4 day itinerary.
