Tour Description:

Your fullday boat excursion with a catamaran starts at around 8:30am from Grand Baie, in the North of Mauritius. From there you´ll head to the smaller islands, placed not far away from the coast.

After about 45 minutes you will move along the first island Coin de Mire, with its impressive cliffs. Additionally, it is the breading place from many birds and also Dolphins and Whales can be spotted in the surrounding, occasionally.

Then, you´ll continue your journey to Gabriel Island, where the Catamaran will set the anchor. Now, you will get the opportunity to visit the island, with time to enjoy the relaxing atmoshpere or ejnoying your time with swimming and snorkeling. In the meantime, the Crew will prepare the BBQ / Lunch.

The BBQ with chicken, fish and sausages will be served as a buffet, directly on the Catamaran. A vegetarian option is also available. Additionally, the crew will serve you various types of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, which are all included, during the entire excursion.

After lunch, you will have time to relax on the Catamaran, before around 2:00pm, you will start the way back to Grand Baie, where the excursion ends at around 3:30pm.

Please note:

Please bring your own snorkeling equipment (or try to borrow these, from your Hotel), if you would like to go for snorkeling, during the excursion.

Additionally, (especially during the winter season), please bring a wind- and/or rain jacket, because it may start to rain, at any time, in a tropical country.

Cap Malheureux:

Cap Malheureux is the name of a village in the district Riviére de Rempart in the north of Mauritius. Cap Malheureux is also the name of the North Cape, the northernmost point of the main island of Mauritius, which lies within the area of the village. The place is known for the Catholic chapel: Chapelle-Notre-Dame-Auxiliatrice with its showy red roof.

Gunner´s Coin – Coin de Mire:

Coin de Mire is a small, uninhabited volcanic rock island. The island has an area of 76 hectares and is located 8 km off the north coast of Mauritius (in front of the village Anse la Raie). The highest point on the island reaches a height of 167m above sea level. The submerged cliffs dropping steeply (The Wall), are an attractive spot for diving and for snorkeling. The reef is home to many different fish species like the Butterflyfish, Surgeonfish, Damselfish and large Trumpetfish. Whales are also regulary spotted in the vicinity of the island. Furthermore, many native birds are nesting in the cliffs and can be spotted flying around the island. Some of the most known bird species are the Wedge-tailed shearwater, Sooty terns as well as the Red-tailed and White-tailed tropicbird. The island is a natural reserve and entering the island is not allowed for tourists.

Flat Island – Île Plate:

Flat Island is a small uninhabited island, belonging to the state of Mauritius. With an area of 2.53 km², it is the largest of the direct beside islands of Mauritius and is located 11 km off Cap Malheureux, the northernmost point of the main island of Mauritius. The island’s highest point is located in the southwest at a height of 95m above sea level. At this place, it is the location from one of the two lighthouses in Mauritius, that are still active till today. There is also a 19th century cemetery on the island when the Britain used the island as a quarantine island. People who died of malaria, smallpox or other diseases during this period were buried here.

Gabriel Island – Îlot Gabriel:

Gabriel Island is a small 42.2 hectare large island. The island belongs to the state of Mauritius and is located about 11 km northeast off Cap Malheureux from the mainland. In the immediate vicinity and only 300m away, is located the by foot at low tide reachable island, Flat Island. More islands in the surrounding from Gabriel Island are: Round Island, Ile aux Serpents, Coin de Mire and the small rocky island of Pigeon House Rock.

AVOID KARL KAISER CATAMARAN WITH CAP TOURS GRAND BAY

I have done around 20 catamaran trips in my life and this was my worst ever experience. Mauritians especially, you should avoid this company! The company is recently proposing sunset cruize parties at Rs1650 including a supposed view of sunset at dawn. It's all nonsense. Once they have your money they don't care! So the company gave us an appointment at 16h30 and we were expected to start our journey by 17h00. We reached grand-bay beach at 16h25. We called the contact person and he told us to wait as they were waiting for some other clients who were nearby. 17h15 we were still on the beach waiting while other catamarans from other companies were leaving or had already left. I asked one of the workers when are we leaving and he told me that we will have to wait for the others to arrive and until they don't arrive we cannot leave! I told him well what if they are stuck somewhere and turn up like very late. The guy has the guts to tell me that until they don't come we cannot leave. They also paid so we have to wait! The response was not friendly at all and he made me understand clearly that i am annoying him. It was like either you wait or f*** O**. Well since we were in a group of 9 people and it was a special day for one of us in the group we didn't have any other choice than wait. Finally, at 17h45 we started boarding the catamaran. We had to wait for another 30mins on the catamaran waiting for everyone to board in. Well, guess what, we were a total of 70 persons!!! on the catamaran including the crew. It was a bazar on board. When we finally started the trip it was already dusk! The sunset view we enjoyed was by the beach! Onboard the crew were like "cold". and when i asked one of them about the itinerary he was like sit down you will have all information later on. Onboard the drink options were cold drinks, beer a not so good tasting punch and local rhum which had a funny taste (bonbon) as well. Regarding snacks, I could grab only 2 samoussas and 2 gateau piments since when the snack containing plates arrived everyone rushed on the plates and who ever was able to grab could get some. There was like 2 round of snacks and thats it. Some of the members in our group didn't get any snacks in the 2nd round. The meal was not that great as well, the chicken leg piece looked more like pigeon leg pieces, 1 sausage and 1 small piece of fish was served + rice salade and macaroni. During the night other people, who i believe are friends of the crew, joined the party and they were brought in by a small boat. The only positive thing about this trip is the music onboard. When i reflect on the arrangements of the company i come to the conclusion that they are only money minded and they don't really give a damn about local people. You wouldn't not believe me but the catamaran moves like only around 500m from the beach. If the company cared at least a small ounce for his clients, they could have well started the journey with the few people who were on time and those who turned up late could have easily been transported via the small navette boats! remember i told you these boats brought in and out people during the night. Oh yeah by the way one group of around 10 people left the boat after dinner by around 8h30. Guess they were p**** o**. Rs1650 is definitely very pricey for this kind of catamaran trip with a very poor service and meal and drinks quality and quantity.

My family and I had a wonderful time when we went with the catamaran on the ocean. I think it was from the organisation Pirates. The organisation was really good. The people were really nice! Also the food was excellent. We had fish, chicken, rice and bread. We had music on board! We had a really great time and I think that this day was the best day of our vacation.

We went on the catamaran trip it was a great day lovely scenery good food and plenty of rum. This trip is a must do in Mauritius.

À nightmare of a cruise, from départure at 9 am till the end of the Cruise , we were suppose to go to flat and Gabriel Islands ,but due to a rough sea we Cruise to Gunners coin instead.loud music all the way. We were Dreaming of listening to the Waves,wind and birds, instead we had disco, salsa, sega du ring 7 hours. Never again
