Reba McEntire gets birthday love from Salt Lake City — and gives fans a slew of reasons to celebrate

What really made mcentire’s salt lake city show stand out were the moments the singer couldn’t have predicted — like when the entire arena serenaded her with the ‘happy birthday’ song.

Reba McEntire performs at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City.

By Lottie Elizabeth Johnson

Looking at recent Reba McEntire concert reviews and set lists makes at least one thing pretty clear: The country music legend is performing the same songs in the same order with the same dialogue night after night.

Her show, a roughly 90-minute spectacle, is a well-oiled machine. And it really needs to be: The song “Fancy,” alone, includes pyro and two outfit changes. Before McEntire even takes the stage, there’s a pyrotechnics display and a montage of clips from her career — her hair tells the story here, ranging from the big, curly style of her early days to the shorter, straighter style of recent years.

McEntire does virtual duets with Vince Gill, and Brooks and Dunn. You get clips from her show, “Reba,” which ran for six seasons. After performing a bunch of what she calls “wallering” songs — songs about your heart being broken — she has an incredible, perfectly precise moment where she rips off the bottom half of her sparkly blue dress and moves on to the feisty power anthem “Going Out Like That.”

McEntire has been in this business for a while — it’s been 46 years since she released her first album — and she really knows how to put on a show. Every word and action has been carefully thought out, and you know her show is going to be a full-on production before she even takes the stage.

But what really made McEntire’s Salt Lake City show stand out were the moments the singer couldn’t have predicted.

Like when the thousands of fans at Vivint Arena cheered and clapped nonstop for at least half a minute after McEntire performed her first No. 1 hit (1982’s “Can’t Even Get the Blues”) and most recent No. 1 hit (2010’s “Turn on the Radio”) back-to-back. McEntire flashed a beaming smile and touched her hand to her heart, visibly emotional as she let the roaring applause wash over her.

“That’s the greatest sound in the world,” she said.

Four songs later, after performing her renowned rendition of the murder-ballad “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia,” McEntire was prepared to tell her enthusiastic audience what she’d been up to for the past year — including filming a Lifetime movie and the crime-drama show “Big Sky” — when the crowd interrupted her.

It took a few seconds for it to come together, but when it did it was unmistakable: The entire arena was singing “Happy Birthday” to McEntire.

The March 25 show fell three days before the country star’s 68th birthday, and marked her last show before her big day. As the serenading came to a close, McEntire again placed her hand over her heart and said, “I’m blushing like a 25-year-old. Thank y’all for that. Very sweet.”

McEntire then had a brief conversation with someone in the crowd whose birthday also fell on March 28. When she learned that the mother of this fan’s primary motivation during labor was the thought of having her child on McEntire’s birthday, the singer quipped, “That’s a dedicated mother right there.”

Moments like these threw off the rhythm of McEntire’s show, but the three-time Grammy winner didn’t skip a beat. Ever the skilled entertainer, McEntire seamlessly wove those moments into her show’s overall design. And in that way, the unexpected birthday serenade fit in perfectly as it became a central theme of McEntire’s show — one of celebration.

That includes the celebration of a nearly five-decade (and still going strong) career. It includes the celebration of traditional country music (McEntire’s husky yodel is still intact). And it includes the celebration of an extensive catalog that, although universal, especially lends a voice to the shared experiences of women — everything from struggling marriages to shattered hearts to single motherhood to being a survivor.

reba tour playlist 2023

Which makes country singer-songwriter Terri Clark such a fitting addition to McEntire’s tour. During her opening set — which included chart-toppers like “Better Things to Do” and “You’re Easy on the Eyes” — Clark shared some of the stories behind her catalog, referencing how “If I Were You,” a song about marital challenges, helped pay for her divorce.

The arena was packed for Clark’s set, which began roughly 90 minutes before McEntire took the stage. And when Clark returned to the stage to sing a medley of Linda Ronstadt songs with McEntire, the crowd erupted. In some ways, it was just as much Clark’s show as it was McEntire’s.

The Salt Lake show was also a celebration of faith. McEntire is vocal about her Christian faith, and she performed a medley of gospel songs with conviction — including “Swing Low Sweet Chariot” and “Oh Happy Day” — backed by the harmonies of the Southern gospel group The Isaacs. It was one of the best parts of the show and left no doubt that McEntire’s 2017 gospel album, which also featured The Isaacs, was worthy of its Grammy win.

reba tour playlist 2023

At one point during the show, McEntire recalled how she had performed at the same arena in 1996, only to soon have that tour derailed due to a skiing injury in Park City. Not one for resting, McEntire eventually continued the tour by sitting on a stool.

In her return to Salt Lake City — her last appearance at this arena was with George Strait in 2011 — McEntire showed that she still doesn’t have a desire to slow down. She made it painstakingly clear that she’ll be making music for a while longer.

And of all the reasons her show gave fans to celebrate, that may be one of the best.

Reba McEntire will extend her Reba: Live in Concert Tour with 14 just-announced shows in early 2023. The new batch of dates kick off March 9 in Jacksonville, Fla., and will keep the singer busy through April 15, when it wraps with a stop at New York City's Madison Square Garden. That'll be the first time that McEntire has ever played the famed venue.

The Isaacs and Terri Clark are joining the country legend as opening acts for the new string of Reba: Live in Concert shows, and McEntire says that continuing her tour — especially with longtime friends in tow — is an exciting way to kick off 2023.

“I am very grateful we’re continuing this tour on into 2023,” she says in a statement. “I’ve had so much fun being back out on the road and doing what I love to do most, entertaining people. And now getting to headline places like Madison Square Garden and bring my buddies Terri Clark and The Isaacs with me? Well, that's just the extra icing on an already triple-layered, stuffed and filled, iced and frosted cake!"

Tickets for the new Reba: Live in Concert dates go on sale on Friday (Oct. 7), but fans who've signed up for McEntire's email list will receive access to a pre-sale that begins on Tuesday (Oct. 4). Additionally, there's another pre-sale for Citi cardholders, which also begins on Tuesday.

It's been a busy fall for McEntire so far. Not only is she planning the release of a special holiday package called the  Ultimate Christmas Collection , but she's also making an appearance on the small screen  as part of the new season of ABC drama  Big Sky .

Reba McEntire Biography

Reba Nell McEntire , known simply as Reba, is more than just an American country music singer and actress; she’s a living legend, the embodiment of the heart and soul of country music. With tour dates that have resonated with fans around the world, Reba has proven time and again why she’s hailed as “the Queen of Country.” Her journey from a humble Oklahoma upbringing to the bright lights of Nashville is a story of passion, perseverance, and profound talent.

Tour Dates That Tell a Tale:

  • Reba’s music has touched the hearts of millions, with over 100 singles gracing the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart since the 1970s, and an astounding 25 of those singles reaching the coveted number one spot.
  • Her live shows are legendary, where fans experience the magic of her timeless hits. From the moment she steps on stage, Reba weaves a musical tapestry that captivates her audience.

Awards and Achievements:

  • Grammy Award Winner for the iconic “Whoever’s in New England.”
  • An unstoppable force in country music, Reba has sold over 75 million records worldwide, solidifying her status as a true country icon.

Born and raised in Oklahoma, Reba’s journey began as a young girl, singing harmonies with her siblings as “The Singing McEntires.” They performed at local events, planting the seeds of what would become an extraordinary career. Her path led her to Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where she studied to be a teacher while continuing to pursue her musical dreams.

Nashville Calling:

The turning point came when the talented Red Steagall discovered Reba’s enchanting voice at a rodeo event. Steagall’s belief in her potential led to a life-changing moment. With Steagall’s help, she secured a recording contract with PolyGram/Mercury Records in 1975, embarking on her journey to Nashville.

A Musical Evolution:

While her early years with PolyGram/Mercury Records saw moderate success, it was her transition to MCA Records in 1984 that marked a new chapter. “My Kind of Country” was a game-changer, bringing two number one Billboard country singles and a shift towards a more traditional musical style.

In 1991, tragedy struck when Reba lost eight of her band members in a plane crash, leading to her critically acclaimed album, “For My Broken Heart.” This profound experience inspired her highest-selling album to date.

The Artistic Chameleon:

Reba’s career isn’t limited to music; her versatility shines in the world of acting. From her film debut in “Tremors” to her role as Annie Oakley in the Broadway musical “Annie Get Your Gun,” she’s left an indelible mark.

In 2001, “Reba,” the TV series where she starred, graced our screens, and her recent venture as a coach on “The Voice” from 2023 onwards is a testament to her timeless appeal.

Reba’s life is a true embodiment of the American dream, a tale of family, love, and unwavering dedication. Her journey from the heart of Oklahoma to the epicenter of country music in Nashville is a testament to the power of dreams and the ability to transcend boundaries.

Reba McEntire Announces 2023 Tour With Terri Clark and The Isaacs

reba tour playlist 2023

Reba McEntire will be spending part of 2023 on the road. The country music superstar is extending her Reba: Live in Concert Arena Tour into next year, with Terri Clark  and The Isaacs serving as her special guests. The 2023 tour, which will begin on March 9 in Jacksonville, Florida, includes McEntire’s first time performing at Madison Square Garden, where she will perform her final date of the tour on April 15.

McEntire is spending some of the fall also on her Reba: Live in Concert Arena Tour, with Clark serving as her opening act for those dates.

“I am very grateful we’re continuing this tour on into 2023,” McEntire says. “I’ve had so much fun being back out on the road and doing what I love to do most, entertaining people. And now getting to headline places like Madison Square Garden and bring my buddies Terri Clark and The Isaacs with me? Well, that’s just the extra icing on an already triple-layered, stuffed and filled, iced and frosted cake!”

The Country Music Hall of Fame member recently hinted that she wanted to spend more time performing in front of her fans.

“I enjoy being on stage,” McEntire said on The Bobby Bones Show . “I love getting in front of an audience. I always have loved touring. Of course, everybody gets tired, and is ready to go do something else, but touring’s been very good for me and my family, and my organization. We absolutely crave it.”

The 2023 leg of McEntire’s Reba: Live in Concert Tour begins on March 9 in Jacksonville, Florida. Tickets for the new dates will be available beginning on Friday, October 7, at 10:00 AM local time. Find more information at Reba.com .

Reba mcentire 2023 tour: what to know about tickets, prices, schedule.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Reba McEntire smiles onstage.

Here’s your one chance, Reba fans, don’t let her down.

From December through April, the country legend will embark on her massive “Reba: Live In Concert Tour” that will take her to arenas all over the U.S.

To wrap up the whirlwind trek, McEntire will touch down in the Big Apple for her final show of the run at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on April 15.

Most importantly, we’re happy to report that tickets are available for all shows.

In fact, some are downright cheap, considering you’ll get to see the three-time Grammy winner strut her stuff live.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we found on tickets was $35 before fees on Vivid Seats.

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure, and your tickets will be delivered before the event.

All prices are subject to fluctuation.

Reba will be joined by special guests Terri Clark, Jo Dee Messina and The Isaacs on select dates.

Best prices on all Reba concerts

We love Reba . You love Reba. To make your life easy, we went ahead and found the cheapest tickets available for each of her 18 upcoming gigs.

A complete calendar featuring all tour dates, venues and links to buy tickets can be found below.

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Reba opening acts

As noted earlier, Reba brings along country stalwarts Terri Clark, Jo Dee Messina, and The Isaacs on her nationwide “Reba: Live In Concert Tour.”

If you’re unfamiliar with these three, take a look below to find brief bios of each artist.

Terri Clark : Active since 1995, Clark has garnered six number-one singles throughout her three-decade career. Just a few of the Canadian country star’s most seminal hits include “If I Were You,” “Poor Poor Pitiful Me,” and “Emotional Girl.”

Jo Dee Messina : Although Messina is only opening for McEntire in early December, you won’t want to miss the Massachusetts native live. After breaking out in the mid-’90s, she has evolved from a pure country singer into a hybrid country/faith-based crooner. Check out her single “Bigger Than This,” which cemented the transformation.

The Isaacs : This group is a lot of things. First of all, they’re a bluegrass Southern gospel music act. Secondly, they’re a family— literally. The Isaacs are made up of mom Lily, daughters Becky and Sonya, son Ben and son-in-law John Bowman. Want to get a taste of their sound? Their most-streamed song is the religious “For Those Tears I Died.”

How to watch or stream “Big Sky”

When Reba isn’t onstage busting out timeless hits like “Consider Me Gone,” “Going Out Like That,” or her seminal cover of “The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia,” she’s starring in ABC’s third season of “Big Sky” as Sunny Barnes, a backcountry outfitter and owner of Sunny Day Excursions.

Created by David E. Kelley of “Big Little Lies” fame, “Big Sky” tells the story of ex-cop turned deputy detective Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick) solving crimes with private detectives Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury) and Cody Hoyt (Ryan Phillipe) in Lewis and Clark County, Montana.

That’s really just the tip of the iceberg too.

If you want to catch up with the twisty crime drama thriller, you can stream all three seasons on Hulu now.

Country stars on tour in 2023

Fans of live country music, your calendars are going to fill up fast in 2023.

With many major tours already announced, we wanted to alert you to just five of the biggest you won’t want to miss.

So, take a look below at our five favorite must-see country tours that just might be headed to a city near you soon.

Bruce Springsteen setlist 2024: Every song he sang at Phoenix tour relaunch

B ruce Springsteen and the E Street Band came to downtown Phoenix on Tuesday, March 19, to relaunch their world tour cut short in 2023 on the advice of Springsteen’s doctor as the star was treated for peptic ulcer disease.

The Footprint Center concert also marked Springsteens's return to metro Phoenix for the first time since 2016, when he brought the River Tour to that venue , then called Talking Stick Resort Arena.

Unlike last time, Springsteen and his E Street Band weren’t here to revisit a two-record set by dusting off all 20 songs . This night allowed for a much more evenly distributed journey through his catalog, from his first album, “Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.,” through 2022’s “Only the Strong Survive,” a collection of soul and R&B covers.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

The March 2024 tour relaunch was classic Springsteen, stretching the boundaries of what it means to prove it all night while chasing moments of transcendence that can range from deeply moving to profoundly silly with the 18-member E Street Band, including the Valley's own Nils Lofgren as part of the three-guitar army, firing on all cylinders.
