"This tour was one of our favorites. The tour leaders (Claudio and Tiziana) were great. The Dolomites and Italian Alps were breathtaking and the bike paths and towns were well chosen to give us a great appreciation of this Alpine countryside. Once out of Venice you really feel like you are in the country with beautiful mountains, alpine chalets and in some areas mostly German speaking residents. The biking was mostly flat with some crazy fun downhill rides. Almost all of the cycling was on bike paths, so very safe and quiet riding. As expected, VBT delivered a great tour with very good accommodations, good food and a really great group of travellers."

Best Time to See the Great Migration

• The dry season, between July and early October

The perennial question for wildlife enthusiasts visiting Africa : When is the best time to witness the Great Migration in East Africa? This surreal movement of nearly two million animals across the savannah is an incredible spectacle of our animal planet and a top attraction for those visiting East Africa.

Wildebeest, gazelle and zebra by the hundreds of thousands move from the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, into Kenya , the Maasai Mara National Reserve and then back to the southern Serengeti. Known mainly for its millions of wildebeest, the Great Migration is a living cycle through which the wildebeest find food, water and a suitable environment for their young throughout the seasons. 

Africa tours that coincide with the Great Migration operate in the dry season, between July and early October . The weather is more stable at this time of year and due to the dried-up landscape, the animals start their movement to find sustenance. If you can’t visit until November or December, you’ll likely still see wildebeest and zebra, though with less movement.

Do not visit East Africa during April and May if you want to see the Great Migration - it’s still the wet season in the Serengeti and the animals won’t have left yet. 

For the best views of the Great Migration, look for guided Africa safaris that visit Serengeti National Park in Tanzania or Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. In particular, the Serengeti’s Grumeti River is an impressive place to view wildebeest crashing through the water.

• Consider leaving the flashy jewelry and watches at home, so as not to call attention to yourself.
• Carry a light load - pickpocketing is quite common. Keep your cash and passport close to your body with a money belt. 
• Read up on your destination and any current safety concerns, whether political or physical. Request information from your Africa overland tour operator and/or look online at your destination’s government website for up to date travel advisories . 
• Use taxi service after dark. 
• Exude confidence , even if you are lost. Act like you know right where you’re going. 
• Consider extra safety precautions and awareness in the following cities: Nairobi, Kenya; Lago, Nigeria; Johannesburg, South Africa; Dakar, Senegal
• Watch out for scams . And don’t give out your home phone number or address, which could then be used for a ransom call, collect call or other scam. 
• If you have a medical emergency in Africa and you are away from your tour group, ask how to get to the nearest embassy or upscale hotel. 
• Get or update the vaccines necessary for traveling to Africa - these typically include typhoid, yellow fever, rabies and Hepatitis A and B. Start taking anti-malarial medication before leaving for your Africa overland tour to ensure that you are protected. 
• Throughout your guided tour of Africa, choose foods that have been thoroughly cooked, drink only bottled water (South Africa being the exception) and don’t take ice in your drinks (typically the ice cubes are made from local water, not distilled or bottled water). 
• On an African safari , be absolutely certain to follow the safety rules as outlined by your safari guide, whether it’s staying away from large animals, being aware of snakes, wearing tick-repellent clothing or avoiding parasitic lakes and rivers. 
• When visiting Muslim countries like Somalia and Egypt , women should wear long sleeves and long pants, as well as cover their head if visiting a mosque or religious site.

Perfect Photosafari

We participated on the "Fotosafari" trip. Everything lived up to and even excited our expectations. Helle & Uri was the perfect tour leaders for photogeeks like our self. Spot the Big 5 in South Africa

Go on safari through Kruger National Park, one of the largest game reserves in Southern Africa . This massive park is one of the premier safari spots in all of Africa and for good reason; it’s home to over 500 bird species, 100 species of reptile and 150 mammal species, including the Big Five and the endangered African wild dog.

Float over the Serengeti

The only thing more magical than witnessing the great wildebeest migration across the Serengeti? Seeing it from the sky in a hot air balloon. As the herds of wildebeest and thousands of other animals travel from Serengeti National Park to the greener pastures of the Masai Mara National Reserve, you can watch their journey and enjoy incredible views from a unique perspective.

Canoe in the Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta has a unique system of waterways that are home to an immense array of wildlife. The best way to explore it is in a mokoro, a traditional dugout canoe. Visit in May to September, when animals are confined to small islands created by the annual flood, making it easy to spot great herds of elephant and antelope, hippos, crocodiles, lions, cheetahs and more.

Where we stay on safari.

On our safari trips you’ll stay in billion-star accommodation. That’s our way of saying you’re sleeping under the night sky, camping in the great outdoors. On our Basix and sections of Original trips, you’ll stay in two-person canvas tents that our crew will help you set up. And on our Comfort trips, you’ll be staying in permanent tented camps and lodges (think glamping instead of camping).

Campsite facilities can sometimes be basic, but wherever possible, we make sure there are Western-style toilets and warm water available. But you’ll find it’s worth sacrificing a warm shower or two when you’re waking up to sunrise over the Masai Mara.

How we get around

On our safari trips, your main mode of transport is an overland truck, a purpose-built vehicle made for driving through Africa’s winding, and sometimes bumpy, country roads. While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, they do have sliding windows which let in the breeze and make it even easier to take spectacular snaps of the local wildlife. The trucks are also equipped with power outlets to charge your camera, phone and other devices on the go.

When is the best time to go on safari.

Generally speaking, January, February and June to October are the best times to go on safari in Africa. This is the dry season, so animals tend to come out into more open spaces in search of water, making them easier to spot. However, you’ll be able to spot animals all year round and you’ll enjoy fewer crowds if you travel outside peak season.

We offer safaris to some of the best safari destinations in eastern and southern Africa, like Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia and more.

Am I guaranteed to see animals on safari?

While we can’t guarantee you’ll spot the Big 5, you’d have to be profoundly unlucky to see no animals at all. On our trips, you’ll explore some of the best game parks and national reserves in the world. These protected areas are filled with a huge variety of different species and your expert driver and local leader will help you spot animals.

What are the “Big 5”?

The “Big 5” used to refer to the five big game animals that were the most difficult to hunt. Now that most shooting is done on a camera, the Big 5 are the most exciting animals to spot while on safari: the lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and Cape buffalo.

What should I pack for safari?

Loose, light clothing in neutral colours is the best attire for a safari (dark colours will get hot in the sun and can attract the Tsetse fly). You’ll also want a sun hat, some good walking shoes, a camera, sunscreen and bug spray. For more details, check out our ultimate Africa packing guide . 

What type of food will be served on safari?

On our Basix trips you’ll have a cook travelling with you while you are on safari who will whip up a variety of local flavours and Western-style dishes. Along your route, your cook will stop to purchase fresh, locally sourced food for your meals. You can expect a variety of things for breakfast like fruit, eggs, toast and cereal; lunch is often sandwiches and salads; and dinner is usually a hearty meal like pasta, curry or a BBQ.

On our Original and Comfort trips there will be more meals at camps and lodges along the way. No matter what you’re craving, you definitely will not be going hungry on safari.

What are the toilets and showers like on safari?

Most of the permanent tented camps will have a private bathroom with flushing toilets and showers with warm water. 

Many of the campsites we stay at have communal facilities with flushing toilets and showers with warm water. However, in some of the more remote areas, there may only be basic facilities (toilets and cold running water). 

Can you accommodate accessibility requirements on your safari tours?

We are committed to making travel accessible to everyone, so we will work with you to assess whether you will be able to complete an existing itinerary, or whether we will be able to make reasonable adjustments to meet your needs before you book. What is internet and phone access like on safari?

Some of our hotels and campsites will have Wi-Fi, however Internet and phone access may be limited in more remote areas. But you won’t miss it when you’re watching a pride of lions prowl through long grass or enjoying a drink around the campfire with your group.

This world and the animals that call it home are precious, and we believe it’s our responsibility to help preserve them. We do not include or condone any activities that exploit animals on our safari trips, including hunting, feeding or interacting with animals in any way. We believe that wild animals should be observed in the wild, from a respectful distance. 

Some tips for being a wildlife-friendly traveller include never buying animal products, not participating in activities that include contact with the animals, and not including location tags on social media posts (some poachers have gone high-tech and use social media to track rare animals’ locations).

Fantastiske safari på Karen Blixen Camp

Afhentet i Lufthavnen i Nairobi. Et døgn overnattende på Karen Blixen Coffee Garden & Cottages med besøg på Karen Blixen Museet og Kazuri perlefabrik. Lidt uklarheder på begrænsninger på baggage når der skal flyves ud på savannen. Afhentet på Airstrips af chauffør der straks kørte safaritur på vej til Camp. Fantastisk safari på Karen Blixen Camp med ture både morgen og aften i Masai Mara. Samme chauffør alle dage hvilket var rigtigt godt. Vi havde valgt 6 safariture under opholdet på Karen Blixen Camp hvilket sagtens kunne være 2 eller 4 ture mere. Fantastiskt personale på Campen - dog lidt malurt i bægeret da en skoleklasse på 40 deltagere også benyttede campen og fyldte lidt for meget. Efterfølgende badeferie på Chale Island hvor der intet manglede. 5 overnatninger var et passende antal dage der. Ved rejsens afslutning en meget spændende og oplevelsesrig biltur til lufthanven i Mombassa - sikke et mylder langs og på vejen.

Dejligste rejse til Zanzibar

Dejligste rejse til Zanzibar. Serena hotel i Stonetown var pragtfuld, og de efterfølgende dage på Ocean Paradise var lige hvad vi havde brug for, med ren afslapning, masser af sol og upåklagelig forplejning. Transfer til og fra lufthavnen var så fin, og med de sødeste chauffører. Den første chauffør "Mussa" arrangerede krydderitur for os på vej fra Stonetown til Ocean Paradise, virkelig god og spændende oplevelse.

Africatours levede fuld ud op til vores forventning ang Safaridelen af vores rejse. Karen Blixen campen er et fantastisk sted med dejligt servicemindet personale. Vores badeferie efterfølgende på Zanzibar var skøn men vi manglede noget byliv, som vi gerne ville have vidst ikke er eksisterende i dialogen med vores rejseleder. Vi kom med en forventning om lækker luksus på vores hotel, men blev meget skuffet over vores værelse. Det blev heldigvis løst af hotellets manager, som var meget hjælpsom. Vi blev flyttet til hotellets bedste suite efter 3 dage🤗

En uforglemmelig Afrika tur

Netop kommet hjem fra en uforglemmelig dejlig familie tur til Kenya med safari og badeferie. Spændende gamedrives. Især stor ros til guiderne Anna og Poul Erik. Southern Palm Beach Resort syd for Mombasa kan virkelig anbefales. Dejligt med den fredfyldte store strand. Alt klappede perfekt. Godt arrangeret af Africa Tours

Kenya Familie Safari er også bare en god safarirejse, som indeholder alt det, man ønsker sig af en safari. Flotte naturoplevelser ved bl.a. Naivasha-søen, mange dyr i Masai Mara, og selvfølgelig afslapningen i Mombasa - selvom de lokale sælgere dukker op på stranden - men de forstår godt, når man siger nej tak. Rejselederne i Africa Tours er superdygtige og ved alt om Africa, dyrene og menneskerne. Safaribilerne er de bedste på Savannen. Lodges, hoteller og mad er helt i top. Africa Tours støtter en fond der årligt uddeler mere end 1,8 mill. kroner til naturbevarings- og anti-krybskytteprogrammer i Afrika. Dejligt at nogen forsøger at gøre noget for at bevare dyrene. Fantastisk Big Cat Safari

Vi har været på Big Cat Safari med Africa Tours - vores 1. Safari. Turen var et sandt sansebombardement, som har givet os minder for livet. Alting klappede fra bestilling til hjemkomst. Fantastisk beliggende camps, lækker mad og alle de dyr vi havde drømt om at se - og flere til. Vores dansktalende guide, Michael, var fantastisk og vores dygtige chauffør Konana fik os godt igennem alle mudderhuller 😀😀😀 En helt igennem uforglemmelig oplevelse❤️❤️

Kenya safari og Mombasa.

Det hele fungerede bare. Info inden afrejse, perfekt. Fik skulle hentes ved lufthavn, safari og tog op til flere gange, 7 gange. Alle gange stod der en guide med skilt og ventede på os. Total go Guide på safari (Anne). Mad hotel transport, alt til ug med pil op. Karakter 12.... så fed en tur til Kenya og Mombasa.

Safarirejse

Vores tur til Mombasa med bl.a. safari i Tsavo øst og vest - har virkelig været en fantastisk oplevelse. Travellers Beach Club og lodge har været med god service og godt mad. Vi har nydt vores ferie - godt planlagt fra Africa tours. Deres engelsk guide/ chauffør i mombasa har givet os nogle fantastiske safari oplevelser.

Rejs aldrig med Africa Tours

Vi fik en rigtig dårlig oplevelse med Africa Tours. Vi vil anbefale at i læser om vores oplevelser på hjemmesiden "Rejs aldrig med africa tours" før i eventuel booker en rejse Hilsen Per og Maria Kommentar til svar fra Africa Tours Ankenævnet behandler ikke bedragerisager jvf. vores advokat. Vi har fremlagt de skriftlige dokumenter for vores advokat som klart mener at vi kan få medhold i en retssag. Han vurderer at sagen vil tage 1 til to år og koste ca 65.000 til 70.000 kr. Imidlertid anbefaler han at vi ikke anlægger sagen da Africa Tours er så finansielt svage, at der er stor sandsynlighed for at de er gået konkurs inden sagen afsluttes. Det vil så betyde at vi ud over de kr. 120.000 som vi allerede har brugt selv skal finansierer sagsomkostningerne.

Kære Per, Du mener, du har bestilt en rejse, der ikke er identisk med den rejse, I har sagt ja til. Konkret har I indtegnet jer på en rejse, der i tilbuddet er beskrevet som, at gæsterne er internationale. 60% af deltagerne var fra Tyskland. 40% ikke. Deltagerne bookes af forskellige rejsebureauer fra hele Europa og deltagerne bookes normalt helt frem til 45 dage inden afrejse. Hvor mange deltagere fra hvert land, der er tilmeldt, ved vi ikke "kun" at gruppen er international. Sammensætningen var du utilfreds med og du har per mail derfor “lovet os”, at du vil gøre dit til at udbrede budskabet om, hvor dårligt et selskab vi er. Dertil har du per mail meddelt, at du kender mange i pressen, influencere og andre og at du vil dedikere din tid til at sværte os til. Du har “givet os chancer, hvis ikke osv”. Jeg har flere gange rakt ud, men vi taler desværre ikke samme sprog. Jeg har derfor og af flere omgange foreslået, at du henvender dig til Ankenævnet, der uvildigt vil tage stilling til rigtigt og forkert. Det vil du ikke - trods det, at Ankenævnet er de eneste, der kan afgøre en uenighed. Facebook, som jeg ved, du ofte benytter i forhold til at udbrede budskabet om os, kan benyttes til meget. Men bruges til uvildigt at afgøre rigtigt eller forkert, kan mediet ikke. Og det samme i forhold til andre digitale ”skamler”. Man kan sagtens stille sig derop og ytre sig om både det ene og det andet. Og så mange gange man vil. Men det bliver envejskommunikation og budskabet står dermed for sig selv. Sagen vil derfor fortsat ikke være afgjort. Ankenævnet ER stedet at henvende sig. Det gentager jeg gerne her ligesom jeg har gjort det flere gange på Facebook. I kommentarfeltet til dine opslag på Facebook læser jeg også, at andre opfordrer dig til at kontakte nævnet for en afgørelse. Jeg tror på, at der altid er mindst to sider af en sag. Den tredje må ses af en uvildig, når to ikke er enige. Det virker vel også meget fornuftigt særligt, når vi er så heldige at bo i et retssamfund som Danmark. Det har jeg også tidligere skrevet til dig. Flere gange. Du finder, at jeres rejse, oplevelserne og vores håndtering er en (1) stjerne værd her på Trustpilot. Vi sigter altid efter at give vores gæster de allerbedste oplevelser. 97% af de samlede anmeldelser er enige og giver os fire (17%) eller fem (80%) stjerner. Det er vi taknemmelige for, og endnu vigtigere glæder vi os over gæsternes gode oplevelser og positive sind og tilbagemeldinger. Jeres rejse levede ikke op til forventningerne. Det er beklageligt, også at vi via almindelig dialog ikke kan lande en gensidig fair og ordentlig afslutning herpå. Det var en rigtig dejlig oplevelse

Det var en rigtig dejlig oplevelse, det eneste negative var forsinkede fly på udturen, men det er selvfølgelig ikke Africa Tours skyld. I situationen havde det dog været rart om rejselederen var med fra Danmark, så havde jeg ikke været så nervøs. Jeg vidste godt i forvejen at rejselederen først ville tage imod os i Nairobi, det havde jeg accepteret inden rejsen.

Fantastisk Chauffør

Vi har været på en fantastisk safari og solferie i Kenya, rigtig godt tilrettelagt af Lone Aalbæk Mikkelsen. Turen startede i Nairobi på Karens coffee garden hvorfra vi blev kørt til et elefant børnehjem samt til en park hvor vi kunne fodre giraffer. Super oplevelse. Næste morgen blev vi hentet af vores fantastiske chauffør, Patrick Thomas der de næste 6 dage kørte os rundt til de aftalte steder. Hver eneste dag fortalte han os om Kenya, hvordan det var at leve der, samt ikke mindst om dyrelivet. Han var enorm god til at spotte dyrene i naturen og gav os en kæmpe oplevelse. Vi så alle de dyr vi på forhånd havde kunnet forestille os (undtagen næsehorn som vi desværre ikke kunne finde) Vi var i Masai Mara, 6 stjerner ud af 6 (Hotellet super) Naivasha søen 2 stjerner ud af 6 (Hotellet fantastisk) Amboseli 3 stjerner ud af 6 (Hotellet under middel) De sidste dage var vi på Solferie i Mombasa. Varmen var for høj til vores smag, men stedet rigtigt fint, dog var det ikke så nemt at komme på stranden, da de lokale sælgere var temmelig påtrængende med det samme man nærmede sig. Alt i alt den bedste ferie vi som familie (2 forældre og 2 børn) har været på, især safari turen var imponerende. Vi har aldrig mødt så glade, flinke og imødekommende mennesker som de Kenyanske.

Kilmanjaro Safari og Kenyakysten

Vi kom hjem fra Kenya midt i september efter en helt fantastisk Safari med Afrikas tours. Alt var perfekt hele vejen igennem ligefra bestilling af rejsen til chauffør, hoteller, planlægning af transport mellem hoteller og byer samt vores fantastiske guide Anna Mason. Fantastisk oplevelse.

Fantastisk oplevelse. Det var 3. gang vi var på safari, men absolut den bedste. Først og fremmest et godt infomøde inden bestilling af billet, og dernæst en fantastisk dansk rejseleder som havde boet i Afrika i 45 år. Aktiv ferie Cape Town

Vi er netop vendt hjem fra en fantastisk ferie i og omkring Cape Town. Stor ros til Sofia og Marius for deres super gode sparring og vejledning ifm sammensætningen af rejsen og gode input.
