Our Coron Super Ultimate Island Day Tour Experience

Here’s how our Coron Super Ultimate Tour went about:

Barracuda Lake

Barracuda Lake in Coron, Palawan2

Surrounding this lake is a beautifully arranged site of greenery and a calming sense of tranquility. Moreso when you dip in the waters and feel the warmth that even gets warmer as you go deeper.

This temperature increase is primarily brought about by the combination of salt and freshwater.  Some can even notice the distinction line that separates the two bodies of water. This is science and God-given nature unfolding right before your very eyes.

Barracuda is a name of a fish, but you can no longer see any around here anymore.  What remains in this beautiful lake is the crystal blue and green combination of spectrum in the waters. The tall limestone formations that surround it make the picture a worthwhile piece of art that comes to life.

Coral Garden

Coral Garden in Coron, Palawan

This part of the tour is another magnificent experience. You must be snorkel-ready at this stop, otherwise, you will miss the entire grandeur.  At first, I was hesitant because in my mind it was just another kind of experience of seeing underwater colors and creatures.

But I am just so glad that I joined the group snorkeling. I am once again reminded of the fifth day of God’s Creation in the Bible when He created the birds and the sea creatures. Oh, those colors and movements of the shells, corals, and different groups of fish. It’s as if the movie Nemo just suddenly came alive in a very wide and personalized cinema down there.

Another good thing about this stop is that you don’t need to be a diving expert to get to enjoy these sea creatures down under. Since everyone was required to continue wearing the life jackets while we went down the wooden ladder from the boat, you could just float and witness the magnitude of these shows coming to life.

That 15-minute snorkeling experience made me appreciate life in the sea once more. It’s more than just a therapeutic experience. It’s indescribable that only those who experience it can make their emotions define it.

CYC Beach in Coron, Palawan

Coron Youth Club Beach, popularly known as CYC, is a haven of rock formation surroundings, white sand, and greenish-blue waters.

Our group was quite exhausted paddling from the boat rides (ours was a transparent one), this beautiful sight of the beach was a soul-quieting one. While enjoying the sight, I and my husband opted to swim for a few minutes and joined the group to explore the mangroves.

It’s usually in this spot that tourists stop for lunch. We had fresh clam soup, grilled fish, chicken adobo, grilled pork, buttered garlic shrimp, pancit (stir-fried noodles), and fresh fruits. The sumptuous lunch that the tour guide personally cooked and served brought me a memory of my own childhood, especially with the fresh coconut juice that completed the lunch so extraordinarily with young coconut meat and the incomparable sweetness of fresh coconut juice.

For Filipinos, this sight expresses much of the rich culture of peace and quiet serenity of the beach, making our eyes full and our tummies, too.

Kayangan Lake

Kayangan Lake in Coron, Palawan

Being intrigued when I heard one member of our boat crew telling us that the next stop, Kayanagan Lake, is said to be the cleanest among all lakes in the Philippines, I painted expectations in my mind. And true enough, approaching the lake, I was already impressed. We were pointed to a spot where we get a good overlooking view of the islets and cliffs that is not to be missed.

The lake is covered with crystal-clear fresh water and there are underwater formations of rocks, caves, and islets.

Treading our path towards the lake, we enjoyed our group bonding at this point already, all the more when we reached the point when we dived in and formed a circle while floating on the water with our life jackets on, holding hands, chanting our group cheer and laughing out loud.

The beautiful rock formations with the growth of the greens on it make it picture-perfect.

Skeleton Wreck

Skeleton Wreck in Coron, Palawan

Stripes, dotted, fading and full-colored groups of fish swimming with you as you approach the skeleton wreck under the water of this awesome island is an experience as if watching a 5D movie in Disneyland Studios.

It was told that this 25m long ship that contained a Japanese supply was air-stricken during World War II.

Diving deeper toward the wreck, a mixed emotion of curiosity and awe enveloped me. The investigative instinct in me was suddenly awakened. This is worth more than a million pesos for me as this is an experience of both enjoying nature and exploring science.  Wow! It’s totally amazing.

Twin Lagoon

Twin Lagoon in Coron Palawan2

The last stop of our island hopping is the Twin Lagoon. It was quite late already because we did not notice the length of time we spent on the other stops, but we decided to not give this stop up.

Our tour guide said that the cliffs were eroded years ago and thus these two lagoons were created with the narrow cliff as a separator. The image is so magnificently crafted that each part is essential to balance the color, shapes, and symmetry.

Once our boat docked, we swam, and though tired, we sang with our group jingle so we could still gather corporate energy and enjoy this last stop. We still managed to enjoy kayaking and seeing the water and creatures down under since it was a transparent one. Insist on renting a transparent one so that you can experience it as if you are sitting on the turquoise water itself.

Kayaking a bit further, we found a perfect spot to take a photo with the towering rock formations in the background in our transparent kayak. And off we kayaked back to our main boat.

Your Ultimate Coron Travel Guide

Life is a bit rough and experiences may get shaky at times, but you wouldn’t be able to appreciate life’s entirety if you just focus on these. A lot like this island hopping experience. It may seem costly and requires ample time and a clear mind to comprehend why you signed up for this trip.

But when you have gone to all these stops and just allow your heart to beat with the rhythm of the seas, the lakes, the breeze, and the splash of the waters, you will not just appreciate Coron, but you will adore how God put these all together.

The grandeur of the corals, fishes, and other sea creatures that you might just encounter in this part of the earth is enough of a bag to pack the strength back to your reality as it is more than just an energy-boosting medicine. It is “coronifically” nostalgic!

Guide to Coron Super Ultimate Tour

There’s no denying it. Exploring Coron, Palawan was very much one of the greatest highlights of our trip to the Philippines and I couldn’t imagine having spent our first few days there any other way! Taking the Super Ultimate Coron Tour set the bar high as we set sail to seven different extraordinary destinations enclosed within the edges of Coron Island and more of the Calamian Archipelago.

The spots on the shared tour may vary depending on the season and as the years progress, but this tour so far has been bound to these seven beautiful sights: Kayangan Lake , Barracuda Lake , Twin Peaks Coral Garden , Beach 91 , Balinsasayaw Reef , CYC Beach and Twin Lagoon . We’ll take a deeper dive (pun unintended) into each location, and look at the total cost of the tour so that you can budget for this excursion in your Coron itinerary.

Table of Contents

Kayangan Lake

Kayangan Lake is named the cleanest lake in all of the Philippines, and consists of 70% freshwater and 30% seawater. It was the first stop on our tour, but might not be for yours as the tour operators decide the sequence of stops in order to maintain a cap on visitors at each location.

With such a high concentration of fresh water, its much harder to float. So it’s legally required that you wear a life vest in the water, or that you hold onto it – or sit in it like a paragliding sack as we did – when swimming in the lake.

To reach Kayangan, your tour boat will dock at the boardwalk and you’ll walk to the entrance of the lake together. Once your guide pays for the entrance fees, you’re good to go! You’ll need to walk 367 steps before arriving at the lake, but only half of them are uphill. It was an easy and steady climb up and down, even while we were carrying our backpacks! Once we reached the massive pool, there were benches on both our right and left along a stretch of boardwalk to place our items before hopping in.

super ultimate tour

The water is a cool blue, and is so incredibly clear. There are small, pencil-like fish who hang around the shallower water by the steps, but not much more marine life that we could see. Your snorkel gear isn’t a must to wear here, but if you want to see for yourself how clear the water is, by all means wear your mask! You might be able to spot the rocks at the bottom of the lake that read “I ‘heart’ U Coron” and even more as you venture away from the edge.

We continued to admire our surroundings with the beautiful rock formations all around and the calm, clean water we floated on before heading back up the stairs to the beautiful point at the highest point along the trek.

super ultimate tour

Barracuda Lake

Named after the large fish, you might be able to spot a resident barracuda lurking in the deep blue waters of Barracuda Lake if you’re really lucky – or not so lucky, depending on how you see it! Don’t worry, barracudas are vegetarian in case you cross paths with them. The lake is comprised of 70% freshwater just like Kayangan and is one of the most unique places to scuba dive due to its incredible thermocline at 14m deep. From a comfortable 28C temperature of freshwater, divers can descend into a shocking 38C where the seawater resides before reaching the cooler layer near the lake floor.

super ultimate tour

From the lake’s surface, we could see the divers quite clearly making their way down the 40m depth as the water was so clear. As swimmers, we had to wear or keep a hold of our life jacket, but one of our guide’s kept watch as I took a few shallow dives in the blue waters for a short period.

To reach Barracuda Lake, your boat might have to anchor in the open water of shallow cove as there is little real estate along the cove’s shore to dock everyone. We hopped down the ladder of our boat and swam easily to the shore to get onto the boardwalk, and once there, we had to climb a narrow staircase for about 30-some steps up and 30-some steps down to arrive at the gorgeous lake. We jumped in, chilled and swam, and marvelled at the incredibly stark limestone walls that plunged deep into the water-filled crater before hopping out of the calm lake.

super ultimate tour

Twin Peaks Coral Garden

Our first snorkelling experience in the Philippines was at the shallow reef located offshore from Coron Island. The reef is named Twin Peaks due to the the large islets that jut out of the water adjacent to the reef. It’s a stunning backdrop, but what is most vibrant is what you’ll find under water. The coral reef certainly lived up to its name as it appeared like a colourful garden of the sea. Vibrant and various types of corals populated the floor, and the edges of the reef were stunning spots you could dive deeper to capture.

It certainly didn’t host a large abundance in marine life when we visited, but there were a number of schools of small fish that would swim near the surface, especially around the boat. In spite of the lack of fauna, it felt like we ventured through an undersea botanical garden in the middle of the ocean.

After all of that swimming and hiking, our whole group was feeling famished. This next destination was where we felt the most relaxed, especially after eating to our heart’s content. Two chefs are designated for each shared tour boat to cook up the feast for your group. I don’t know how they do it, but they somehow manage to whip up the entire meal for almost 20 of us in the back of the little bangka boat. Then the boat attendants bring everything out from the boat to land and display the dishes out for us to self-serve.

Beach 91 has these large sheltered cottages on stilts for our groups to eat and rest in while we look out to the gorgeous water. The buffet-style meal included much variety, including chicken adobo, shrimp, a large tuna fish, stir-fry noodles, fresh or pickled cucumber slices, fresh fruit slices (usually watermelon, pineapple and/or papaya) and of course plain rice – which the locals like to call “Filipino power”.

It’s often the same choices for each tour group, but sometimes you’ll also have the choice of pork belly, salad, and sometimes other kinds of seafood. Pop or water bottles are provided with your lunch complimentary, but if you’re craving a fresh coconut to drink and snack on, you can purchase one from a beachside vendor!

super ultimate tour

After our meal, we were pretty stuffed so we waded in the beautiful water and walked along the white sand beach until we left. Our new friends Nik & Priya took out their rented kayak to venture the surrounding areas, including just around the corner on the north to an unnamed cove. We only found out for ourselves just how beautiful the area was once we popped up our drone to capture it for us!

super ultimate tour

The clarity of the water at Beach 91 and its neighbouring beaches could honestly rival with that of the Maldives. It’s a small area that you can wade and swim in, but the crowd of us tourists was sparse so we could still enjoy our time to its fullest in the water here!

Balinsasayaw Coral Reef

Next up was our second snorkelling journey in a reef just off the shore of the Balinsasayaw Resort. If you take a look at Google Maps in satellite view, you can see the shallow reef stretch out into the Sulu Sea to a circular tip with a sinkhole in the middle. That long stretch is where we snorkelled!

super ultimate tour

It wasn’t a spectacular experience here as the waves were choppy and the water less clear than at the coral garden, but we did manage to spot some massive clams and clownfish hiding in the sea anemone with the help of our guides. Be on the lookout for them and take some deeper dives to get a closer look if you feel comfortable!

super ultimate tour

Situated on a tiny, isolated island with somewhat white sand and calm, shallow waters to dip in, CYC Beach is highly popular among locals and tourists alike. It’s covered with trees and various lush vegetation, with some small trees and shrubs actually taking root and protruding out of the shallow waters along the shore.

With many visitors coming here on their tours, there are a number of vendors on kayaks selling various snacks and drinks (beers and sodas alike), so if you’re craving a snack or a refreshing beverage, you’ll have a chance to do so here.

In our opinion, there are much better beaches near Coron that are much more worth a visit. Your tour guide might even suggest skipping it altogether to allocate more time at the other destinations. Make sure to also check out our Island Escapade Tour from Coron for the most beautiful, secluded beaches! Now those ones will make you want to never leave.

Twin Lagoon

Hands down, our last stop was our favourite on the entire tour. Twin Lagoon is completely hidden away within the walls and islets of northern Coron Island’s shore. As your group’s bangka boat makes it way there and the water becomes extremely calm, protected from the winds and current of the sea, you’d never imagine what was waiting for you around the bend.

super ultimate tour

All of the tour boats arrive and anchor in the lagoon on the west side, and you have the choice of either swimming or kayaking to reach the other half of Twin Lagoon. If you swim like we did, you’ll walk down your boat’s ladder into the water and swim your way to the narrow stairway that you’ll see built into the notch between the two steep limestone rock towers. If the tide is low, you can choose to swim underneath the rock to reach the other side. If the tide is high or you don’t feel comfortable submerging yourself in the water, take the stairs. Either way is fun and rapid to enter the incredibly peaceful and serene lagoon that I’ve ever been in.

super ultimate tour

If you’re kayaking in Twin Lagoon, you’ll have to circle clockwise around the islets in order to reach the lagoon on the eastern end. It looks incredible to journey through this slice of paradise on your own accord and with few people in sight. Upon returning back to to the boat, your group will come pick you up on the western side of the boardwalk so you don’t have to come back all the way around.

But whether your swimming or paddling, you’ll find this place to be just unbelievable. The towering, jagged limestone cliffs completely envelop you in the quietest of hideaways, and even small voices could be heard echoing against the grey walls. It was just perfect for us as there were only a few other groups who visited Twin Lagoon at the same time as us, so we had all the space we wanted to float in the deep blue abyss.

super ultimate tour

Note that this conjoined lagoon is the deepest body of water you’ll swim in during your tour. Our tour guide Angelo liked to refer to it as the “donation area” because if you lose anything in the water and it falls to the bottom, none of the locals would be able to retrieve it for you, unfortunately! So keep a could hold of your belongings or you’ll have to say goodbye to them in Twin Lagoon!

How to Book Your Own Coron Super Ultimate Tour

The shared or “joiners” tour that we did was very easy to book. It can be reserved online through a third-party local tour company or through sites like Klook , in person directly with a tour operator or through your accommodation. We’ve booked tours in the Philippines through local third-party companies, in cash directly in person and even through our hotel. But nothing beats booking directly through Klook! You get to pay in your own currency, with credit card (gotta maximize those reward points) and the exact schedule, inclusions, exclusions are well stated for this tour.

super ultimate tour

If the shared tour is not something you’re looking for, a private tour is always an option and you can book this online or directly with a tour operator. I would recommend chatting with your potential tour company prior to booking with them and discussing your wishes for the excursion as well as negotiating the pricing for the day.

With a private tour, you’re essentially chartering your own boat for a day and can leave in the earlier hours of the morning to avoid the crowds and get more out of your time. You can mix and match various destinations as you are not bound to the locations listed above. If you want to explore more of the Calamian Islands, you certainly could, weather permitting! It’s worth noting that none of the entrance fees would be included in your private tour price and would need to be paid for at each location.

Inclusions & Exclusions of the Tour

You need not worry about your pick-up and drop-off provided that your accommodation is within Coron. A shared van will get you to and back from the boat dock. All permits and entrance fees to each of the island hopping locations are included in the price of the tour, as well as your buffet lunch.

The environmental fee for Coron is something you’ll need to pay for upon arriving in Busuanga, either at the airport or at the port. This 200PHP fee covers all of your activities during your stay but you don’t have to worry about presenting the paid fee slip to anyone while you’re here.

Snorkel gear rentals were an extra 150PHP per set, and you can choose to add on a kayak rental for the whole day for 1,300PHP for a regular kayak or 1,800PHP for a clear bottom, both providing a 2-person capacity. We didn’t think it was worth it as there were in reality only two spots to kayak in: Twin Lagoon and Beach 91.

You can also choose to rent a kayak for a quarter of the price upon arriving to Twin Lagoon or Beach 91 if there are some available, but it’s not guaranteed. We chose to swim instead at each of the locations and still very much enjoyed being in the water. But if you’re keen to paddle, by all means, do so! Your guide will ask your group for who would like to rent a kayak prior to departing for the day.

super ultimate tour

In total, we spent 4,280PHP for the two of us, but could’ve paid a total of 3,700PHP had we booked through our hotel. All gear rentals – whether you need a snorkel & mask, a kayak, fins or aqua shoes – need to be paid in cash to your guide, but the tour itself can be paid with credit card depending on who you book through.

What to Pack for Your Super Ultimate Tour

Make sure to bring your own towels with you as the tour operators don’t provide them. Some of the higher-end accommodations in Coron will have beach towels for use on the tours, but we always make sure to pack our light and thin, quick-drying microfibre towels wherever we go.

Water shoes are a huge necessity for this tour, especially when trying to get to Kayangan Lake or when swimming in the shallow waters to reach Barracuda Lake. Especially if you need to cross through other boats to reach the docks, it’s best to wear shoes instead of going around barefoot.

Lastly, a waterproof phone case and a dry pack are optional but recommended for you to bring to keep your valuables safe from water damage! There are plenty of vendors who will visit your boat before you embark on your island hopping journey you can buy from if you forget to bring these items.

super ultimate tour

Here’s our list of what to pack for your Super Ultimate Tour:

  • Snorkel gear – mask & snorkel
  • Water shoes
  • Large dry bag
  • Waterproof phone case
  • Beach towel
  • Waterproof action camera + case + floating handle
  • Reef-safe sunscreen
  • Insect repellent

Does the Tour Accommodate for Accessibility?

It is very difficult to go on the tour as someone with limited mobility. When you board your boat – a motorized version of the traditional bangka, which is a double outrigger watercraft – you will often need to reach far with your legs on a swaying boat.

At some of the locations, if there is no room for your boat to dock at the boardwalk, your captain will maneuver the boat so that it connects to another one already docked and you’ll need to cross over to it and walk through its narrow space in order to reach land. There might be two boats in front of you that you’ll need to hop through. While efficient, it isn’t favourable, especially in poorer weather conditions.

super ultimate tour

If you currently have mobility issues, I would highly recommend talking with a tour operator directly about doing a private excursion. This way, you could go at hours of the day where the other visitors are few and you’ll have more guidance and assistance with swimming, hiking the stairs and boarding the boat.

That wraps up our very first and most favourite tour in Coron, Palawan! Exploring these majestic sites protected by the unique rock formations and the geography of the islands was something we simply could not miss on our trip to the Philippines. We hope you’ll have the same opportunity!

Coron Super Ultimate Tour Island Hopping in Philippines

3/17/2022 ‱ 4 min ‱ Philippines

Imagine a classic paradise: you see crystal clear turquoise waters and unique islets, vibrant playful fish pass you by as you breathe through a snorkel, white sands tickle your toes, your tour guide starts barbecuing fresh fish for your lunch - you are in the Philippines.

In this video we explore one of the Philippines' most popular tourist destinations, Coron Island. In this short adventure film, we explore seven different areas along the Coron Island coastline: Barracuda Lake, Twin Lagoon, Coral Garden, Skeleton Wreck, Banol Beach, Kayangan Lake and Siete Pecados. All of these spots have different personalities and activities perfect for any traveler. See them all in the video above and learn more about them in the article below.

We went on the "Coron Super Ultimate Tour" provided by the Coron Visitors Hotel and we LOVED it! A fun tip to know is that this tour title is the same across providers. If you see this title with another company, the experience will be similar to ours. Here are the prices and activities you can expect across tourism companies in the Philippines.

A paper showing the itinerary and cost (PHP 1,800) for the Coron Super Ultimate Tour

What to Expect

Price: $30-$38 USD per person (1,500 - 1,800 PAX)

Time: 8am - 5pm (with 7:30am pickup from hotel)

7 Destinations (Locations will differ slightly between companies)

Snorkel Gear

Buffet Lunch

Transport & Guides

Places Explored

Barracuda lake.

The first stop on our adventure was Barracuda Lake. Known for its limestone cliffs that go underwater for miles and sightings of barracuda fish! We had fun swimming around the deep and clear blue waters of this lake. Lifejackets are required at this location.

Twin Lagoon

Then we visited Twin Lagoon, which, as you can guess by the name, has two lagoons. The first lagoon is where the boats dock, while the second lagoon is hidden - the only access is an underwater opening underneath a rock! During high tide, you can use a ladder to climb over the rock. Cedric and I entered through the sea-passageway. Good thing we are both good swimmers!

Coral Garden

Next we explored a coral garden. There are many shallow coral gardens along the Coron coastline that are great for snorkeling. Which specific one you will go to depends on your tour guides and the weather. While we were here we saw the most colorful and playful fish.

Skeleton Wreck

Near the garden was a shipwreck. This site, called Skeleton Wreck, is a 25m long Japanese supply ship that was hit by an airstrike during WWII by the US air force. What's unique about this shipwreck is that it's shallow enough (for those who can hold their breath) to explore it with only snorkeling gear! There is also the option to scuba dive here, and at other shipwrecks throughout Coron.

Banol Beach (AKA Banul Beach)

Our midday stop was this beautiful beach to eat lunch. Banol Beach wasn't labeled on the tour itinerary, but it ended up being my favorite! A gorgeous beach with white powdery sands, crystal clear water and homemade Filipino cuisine for lunch? How could it NOT be my favorite?

Kayangan Lake

After we filled our tummies with fresh bbq-ed fish and pineapple salsa, it was time to take a hike! There are 367 steps to get from the port to the view, then back down to the lake. After we snapped a picture with one of the most famous photo spots in the Philippines, we trekked down the steps and began to wade in the water. Kayangan Lake is famous for its freshwater and underwater caves. This lake is known as the cleanest and clearest lake in the Philippines, and some say in all of Asia!

Siete Pecados

Our last stop on this island hopping tour was Siete Pecados which translates to "seven sins" and refers to the seven islets at this location. Siete Pecados is known for its shallow and healthy coral reefs. This is the best spot in Coron for beginner snorkelers and scuba divers because you can float on the water's surface and get great glimpses of funky coral and funny fish.

If you like bar hopping then I'm sure you would love island hopping in the Philippines! Comment on this blog or on the Coron Super Ultimate Island Tour | Philippines YouTube video what your favorite destination on this tour would be and why.

  • Nenna91 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Horrible Horrible experience offered by Taug Whaleshark watching in Lila. The water is overcrowded by tourists packed on small boats that are sorrounding the animal. The whale shark is fed continuously with minced fish to keep the whale close to shore. The water is so smelly and dirty that the visibility is really low. At the briefing we were told to keep at least 5 m distance from the whale, however none respected the rule and the tourists were disturbing the animal all the time. After 20 minutes the visit is done and other boats are already on the shore to take your place around the whale. We spent 3000 pesos for two people, really not worthy: inhumane and not wild at all. We loved exploring Sugba Lagoon and because we left early (8am), we were the only tourists there for the first half an hour. Our guide was very attentive and offered to take photos for us. The day didn’t feel rushed at all and we had time to explore, but also relax in all three locations. The tour guide and driver were so accommodating and even stopped at a bakery for us to get some food in the morning. This has been the highlight of our Siargao trip and it’s not just because of the beautiful scenery we saw today but also because of the friendliness of the staff involved. Big shout out to Joseph for looking after us for the day and to Elvis for his wealth of knowledge and travel tips for our future travels. We would happily book tours with this company in the future. Wondering which are the best Coron Island Hopping Tours to spend your money on? We know the feeling!

Having tried and tested the tours we can help you pick the right tour for you.

After experiencing all there was to offer in  El Nido , we moved on to Coron (only a short boat ride away).

Like El Nido, Coron is an area where boat tours whisk you to jaw-dropping lagoons, reefs and white sand beaches.

Which Coron Tour should I take? 4 Coron Tours which Rocked!

We did the 4 main tours in Coron with JY Travel & Tours . They were all absolutely amazing!

The Ultimate Tour – For those who only want 1 Tour

The Ultimate Tour is exactly as the name suggests – it showcases the best & most iconic areas Coron has to offer.

If we had time for only one tour in Coron, this would be it. The stunning lagoons and amazing landscapes are unique to Coron and something you do not see everyday.

The Ultimate Tour costs 1200 PHP per person ($22 USD).

The tour includes: hotel transfers, an experienced guide & lunch. It does not include the use of kayaks (1000 PHP per kayak).

Tips for the Ultimate Tour:

  • Unlike the El Nido tours, hiring/buying reef shoes is not really a necessity. We did not hire the reef shoes and were perfectly fine;
  • Bringing or hiring a snorkel is worthwhile as part of the tour involves viewing of an underwater ship wreck;
  • Hiring a kayak is advantageous but not essential. You can also enjoy the Twin Lakes by swimming.

Kayangan Lake

The first destination of the day is Kayangan Lake. This is perhaps the attraction we were most excited to see in Coron due to the perfect turquoise water.

To reach this attraction, it involves a 367 step climb.

Luckily half way up, you will find an absolutely stunning view of Coron.

As this is one of the most iconic views of Coron, there was quite a line up to get this shot. Well worthwhile for a beautiful memory though!

And yes, the hike is completely worth every agonising step up as at the bottom you are rewarded with some of the clearest water in Asia with absolutely stunning natural rock formations.

The water is in fact so clear that you can see garfish swimming around you in the lake.

You are not allowed to swim in Kayangan Lake without a life jacket so make sure you bring one with you from the boat!

Barracuda Lake

Our next stop was Barracuda Lake. This was an unexpected stop and a “bonus stop” of our tour.

We thoroughly enjoyed Barracuda Lake and would recommend trying to book a tour which includes it.

If anyone is also interested in the best place to free dive in Coron – this is the place to do it! The underwater rock formations at Barracuda Lake are absolutely unreal.

We did not free dive but we had an opportunity to snorkel at Barracuda Lake and were very happy with the opportunity to be able to swim & snorkel in one of Coron’s most iconic locations.

We could also see the beautiful underwater rock formations just by snorkeling as the water is SO clear in Barracuda Lake. The visibility is unparalleled anywhere else we visited in Palawan.

Following Barracuda Lake is one spot we were eagerly awaiting. It’s one of the most iconic spots of Coron – the Twin Lake.

Twin Lake is known for the beautiful colour of water & stunning rock formations.

Here you have the opportunity to use rented kayaks. It is advisable but not absolutely necessary to kayak at Twin Lake.

After a fun time swimming & kayaking in the lake, we enjoyed a delicious lunch aboard the boat. This consisted of grilled fish, rice, vegetables, chicken & fruit.

Japanese Ship Wreck

The next stop is a Japanese ship wreck. It was very cool seeing a Japanese ship wreck from WW2 submerged underwater.

As stated above, it is advisable to hire or buy snorkel gear for this tour as it is fascinating to see the ship wreck.

The final stop of the day was CYC beach.

You can swim or use your kayak to access the beach.

Interestingly, we met a French tourist camping overnight on CYC beach. He had actually come on a day trip and asked if he could be collected the next day.

An option for anyone who wants to get back to nature for a night. Ask your tour if this is possible in advance. The tourist brought all his own supplies.

As we got back on the boat, we were treated to “Turon” a Filipino specialty which is banana wrapped in spring roll paper and fried.

Turon was one of the extra perks on our tour with JY Travel and Tours and one of the many reasons why we love them!

Coron Escapade Tour

The next tour we took of Coron was the Escapade Tour . We choose this tour as we wanted to see some spots further away from Coron where fewer tours (and tourists) go.

We recommend this tour for those looking for beautiful beaches further away from Coron.

There are less stops included in this tour as the first stop is 1.5 hours boat ride from Coron.

Tips for the Escapade Tour:

  • Hiring/buying reef shoes is not really a necessity. We did not hire the reef shoes and were perfectly fine;
  • Bringing or hiring a snorkel is worthwhile as the snorkeling on this tour is amazing;
  • Hiring a kayak on this tour is not necessary.

Malcapuya Island

The first stop was Malcapuya Island. This Island is absolutely beautiful – white sand beaches & crystal clear water.

Malcapuya Island Coron

What we also loved about this beach was that there are plenty of tables & chairs to sit on at the beach to keep shaded in the hot weather in the Philippines.

This island is also great for off shore snorkeling so if you have brought or hired a snorkel, this is a great opportunity to see some beautiful reef life.

Banana Island

After enjoying snorkeling and swimming at Malcapuya Island, it was time to stop for lunch at Banana Island.

The JY crew prepared the most delicious lunch at Banana Island consisting of grilled fish, chicken, rice & fresh fruit.

Banana Island is also a great place to snorkel. If you feel energised after lunch we highly recommend snorkeling at Banana Island as it was one of the best snorkeling spots we experienced in the Philippines.

Metres from shore Mike found a huge school of fish on a feeding frenzy – check out our Instagram story highlights for more about this!

Bulog Dos Island

The island we were most excited about visiting for the day was Bulog Dos Island , which features a stunning white sandbar which protrudes from the beach.

Alas, we are not very lucky with sandbars. Just like our visit to Snake Island, El Nido – we visited at high tide so the ocean covered most of the sandbar.

Even though the full sandbar was not visible Bulog Dos was still an absolutely beautiful island. The snorkeling on this island is also fabulous.

There is also a viewpoint on this Island where you can get some pretty cool Instagram shots.

Calauit Safari Tour

One of the reasons we were excited to visit Coron was to see African animals at the Calauit Safari.

We had seen this safari park on Instagram and were amazed that there was really African animals living in the Philippines. I mean, how cool is that?

Coron Safari

This tour starts even earlier than regular El Nido and Coron tours. The pickup time for the Coron Safari tour is 5am.

We actually didn’t realise this and managed to miss our tour one morning. Not recommended. All of the island tours in Coron start at around 8am. This is different – be prepared.

The first stop is for a local breakfast for those who want it. Breakfast is 100 pesos per person and includes 2 eggs, Filipino sausages & rice.

From here, it takes around 30 minutes to reach the entry to the safari park.

The safari park is a very interesting experience and definitely not be missed if you are in Coron.

A cool quirk of the park is that it’s located on an island reachable only by boat. It really felt like we were visiting Jurassic Park as our boat trundled up to this densely green island where rare animals awaited.

We found the boat ride over to the island to be pretty fun in itself.

When you first arrive, you get to feed the giraffes. It was so fun to be able to feed these animals. They were quite cheeky too so hold on to your branch or they will take it in one bite!

From there the rangers take you around the park to have a longer look at the animals and take photographs.

You can get fairly close to the giraffes and zebras in order to take a beautiful photo. The rangers don’t like you getting closer than 3-4 metres.

On the safari, the ranger also took us to see turtles, monkeys & a large snake.

It was a great experience and we would highly recommend it to anyone who loves animals.

After the safari, we had a quick pitstop at a local beach before heading back to the same restaurant as breakfast for lunch.

Black Island

After lunch the group split into two: those who wanted to see a waterfall & those who wanted to see Black Island.

We choose to skip the waterfall in favour of Black Island, an absolutely beautiful island off the north coast of Coron.

There is also an amazing cave on the island with a natural swimming hole. If you feel like an icey cold dip, you can even take a swim in the cave.

We arrived in Coron after a ferry ride from El Nido. The boat from El Nido arrrives at around 10am in the morning. This means it is too late to do a boat tour.

However, we didn’t need to waste any time as we were able to join the Coron Town Tour! This tour starts at 4pm in the afternoon.

Admittedly, we are not usually fans of town tours. We would rather DIY. However, as this tour requires an after dark transfer to the hot springs 30 minutes from town, we think it’s good value and more convenient than taking a tuk tuk.

We would highly recommend it if you have an extra afternoon spare while you are in Coron.

Lualhati Park

The first stop on the Coron Town Tour is Lualhati Park.

This was our least favourite spot of the tour but it was only a short stop for 10 minutes.

Basically, it is a nice river view walk/dock boat. Locals sell various souvenirs here and if you haggle, you can get a great price!

Mt Tapyas View Deck

The highlight of the Tour in our opinion was what came next – Tapyas View Deck.

The view and scenery at the View Deck is sublime.

We were not expecting this kind of countryside in the fisherman village of Coron and we were totally blown away.

In order to access the view deck, it is around a 20 minute stair climb to the top. We found it reasonably tiring (we were quite exhausted at the top).

Our guide told us that older people still manage to make it so it is definitely a doable hike!

From on side of the mountain a view deck with a beautiful vista of Coron town. On the other side is beautiful yellow rolling countryside like the one pictured below.

Mt Tapyas View Deck is the perfect place to enjoy a beautiful sunset.

One of the reasons for the late start of this tour is so you can sit down and enjoy the sun set over Coron.

Maquinit Hot spring

After a steep climb uphill, what is better than relaxing tired muscles under the stars?

We weren’t sure what to expect of Maquinit Hot Spring but we were pleasantly surprised.

The hot spring was so relaxing. It is extremely hot though and hard to stay in longer than 20-30 minutes at a time.

Luckily, there is a little cafe where you can buy cheap drinks and relax around the hot springs while you steam off.

Our group preferred to stay longer at the bigger attractions. There were a few attractions we missed in this tour: Town Plaza, Souvenir Shops, St Augustine Church & the cashew harvest.

What is great about JY Travel & Tours – they listen to the needs of the group and their preferences.

We loved that the tour is adaptable to individuals interests.

Which Tour Company? JY Travel & Tour

All Tours of Coron we did with JY Travel & Tours. We couldn’t recommend this company highly enough.

The staff were fun, professional and looked after our safety the entire time. They were also very helpful with information about the surrounds.

Not only are the staff fabulous but they serve a fabulous lunch consisting of grilled fish, chicken, pork, prawns, grilled vegetables, rich & fruit.

If you are looking for a tour in Coron, we would highly recommend this company.

You can find more information on  JY Travel & Tour   website . You can also them on Facebook &  Instagram .

Coron Ultimate Tour I What To Expect

The Coron Ultimate Tour in the Philippines is probably one of the most beautiful highlights you can see on Coron. Even if Coron (or the main island Busuanga) itself is not worth seeing, the lagoons and bays off the coast are. The islands that we saw on our Super Ultimate Tour off Coron are among the most beautiful natural highlights that we saw on our round trip through the Philippines.

We are Sabrina and Andreas, two adventurous travelers who never miss an opportunity to discover the world. Whether by plane to distant countries or with our campervan Bruno, we just love to travel. We hope to give you helpful tips for your next trip on our blog.

Island Hopping Coron | Super Ultimate Tour

Since we only wanted to stay a few days on Coron, we chose the Coron Super Ultimate Tour, as it combines the most beautiful and popular destinations of the island world off Coron in one day trip. What experiences we had on our boat tour and whether we can recommend the Super Ultimate boat tour, you can read in our experience report.

Highlights of the Coron Super Ultimate Tour

Kayangan lake.

Kayangan Lake is probably the most famous lake in Coron and definitely one of the most beautiful spots in the region. If you have booked a private tour then you will be lucky to get to this lake before the other group tours. You will first drive into a small bay, which looks beautiful in itself.

There is a large boat dock that shows how many boats can dock here. From the pier you go up a more or less steep staircase. There you will find the famous viewpoint from which the photos are taken that are known from this place.

Coron Ultimate Tour I What To Expect

Funnily enough, the famous photos of Kayangan Lake are not from the lake itself, but from the bay where you arrive by boat. The actual lake is on the other side, but there is not such a nice viewpoint. From the viewpoint you go down the stairs to the actual Kayangan Lake. There is a large footbridge that gives you a view of the really crystal clear greenish shimmering water. By the way, the water here is freshwater and the lake has really very impressive underwater rock formations.

You can see them while snorkeling or free diving. By the way, for safety reasons you have to wear a life jacket when swimming here. This makes swimming easier, but submerging a bit more difficult. If you ask your guide, it should be no problem to take off the life jacket for a short time, for example, to take beautiful underwater pictures.

Kayangan Lake, Coron, Philippinen

Since we were lucky enough to be the first ones at Kayangan Lake that day, we could enjoy the lake alone for almost half an hour before other tourists arrived. Then we went on to the next highlight, the neighboring Barracuda Lake.

By the way, you can read more about Kayangang Lake here: Kayangan Lake I Tips for the most beautiful highlight in Coron

Barracuda Lake

The Barracuda Lake is located right next to Kayangan Lake and the special feature of this lake are, as the name suggests, the barracudas, which you can see here with luck. Barracudas are about 1-1.5 meters long predatory fish, which can be dangerous for you. Normally the barracudas only make mock attacks. If you do not come too close to the fish then you should have no problems.

You are surely wondering if you will get the chance to see the impressive barracudas at all? Often such places are named after such animals, although hardly anyone has ever seen them. With us it was at least different. We were lucky to see several of these great fish swimming past us. So you could also be lucky if you visit Barracuda Lake.

Coron Ultimate Tour I What To Expect

Barracuda Lake is relatively similar to Kayangan Lake next door. Here, too, the boat landing is on one side, you walk down a staircase between the sharp limestone rocks to the other side where there is a large jetty and the almost transparent water of the lake. By the way, the Barracuda Lake is up to 40 meters deep and has a pleasant water temperature of 28 degrees all year round.

The main activities at Barracuda Lake are swimming and snorkeling, just like at Kayangan Lake , and of course looking for barracudas. In our separate travel report you can learn more about Barracuda Lake. The next stop on the Super Ultimate in Coron is right next door.

Coron Ultimate Tour I What To Expect

Twin Lagoons

The Twin Lagoons are again a very special highlight of the island world of Coron. As the name suggests, this highlight consists of 2 lagoons, which are connected by a thin rock wall. At low tide you can swim through a hole in the rock wall or at high tide you can climb a ladder over the rock wall.

A special feature of this Coron highlight is that there is no jetty where the boats can dock. This means that the boats anchor in the small bay in front of the Twin Lagoon and you have to swim from there to the rock wall.

Twin Lagoon Coron

So after swimming to the rock wall you could swim under the rock on the way there. This is especially easy at low tide, but actually also at high tide. You will have much less space and you will have to take care of your head. The other side of the Twin Lagoon is much bigger and you have a lot of space to swim or snorkel. Snorkeling is not so popular here, because there is not really much to see under water.

On the other side of the Twin Lagoon you can not do more than swimming, because there is no jetty or anything where you could walk on it. Also, this side of the lagoon does not look as spectacular as the other side where the boats are anchored. Therefore we would recommend you not to stay too long, but to swim back to the rock face and this time take the ladder.

With the boat side in the background you can take really nice pictures. But also the rock face with the ladder itself is very picturesque and is a great photo motif. So you should plan a lot of time here to make many beautiful photos.

Twin Lagoon Coron

The small rock in front of the cliff is also good for taking photos or jumping into the water from there. If you had enough fun then swim back to the boat, because it’s time for lunch.

If you want to know more about Twin Lagoon read our travel report: Twin Lagoon Coron I The most important tips for your visit

Lunch will be served at this beach. The beach itself is beautiful and perfect for swimming. The lunch, however, puts the crown on the whole thing again. We had a large buffet with seafood, crab, chicken, vegetarian options and of course lots of fruits.

A special highlight were the so-called Sea Grapes. These really look like a mini version of green grapes. They just taste a little salty. The whole thing is dipped in a tincture of vinegar, lemon and sugar. Really super tasty!

Beach 91 Coron

After lunch we even had some time to explore the area with a kayak. Next door is Sunset Cove, another small cove that can be explored by kayak.

Twin Peaks Coral Garden

Here is another beautiful snorkeling spot where you can explore the amazing underwater world of Coron. Don’t forget your snorkel mask, because there is a lot to discover here.

The end of the Super Ultimate Tour in Coron is the CYC Beach. So after all the strenuous activities you can relax a little bit. The sand is super fine and at the edge of the beach there are also some mangroves. You can go swimming here or just relax on the beach.

Procedure of an Island Hopping Tour on Coron

The procedure of an island hopping boat tour on Coron is actually always the same, no matter which tour or which provider you choose. You will be picked up in the morning between 8 and 9 o’clock either in front of your hotel or – if it is too far away – you will meet at the office of the tour operator or directly at the harbor. You should clarify this in advance.

Explore all these beautiful Places by Boat | Check Prices*

When all participants are on board and the greeting has been said, you will start exploring the first highlights of your tour. If you have booked a private tour then you have of course still influence on the course and the order, with a group tour you have this of course not.

Coron Ultimate Tour I What To Expect

After the first 2-3 stops on your Coron boat tour you will have a lunch break and a rich buffet. In the afternoon the remaining stops will be made, which can consist of island visits, snorkeling or swimming. Around 5pm you will arrive back at the port in Coron Town and can then stroll around town or take a tricycle directly to your hotel.

Hotel Recommendation on Coron

La Natura Resort

La Natura Resort in Coron consists of a beautiful garden-like complex located a bit away from the hustle and bustle of Coron Town. You are in the middle of nature and far away from other tourists or the noise of the city. You wouldn't expect it, but the owners have built a wonderful resort here that you can't even imagine from the outside.

There is a large pool, a lovingly landscaped garden and the spacious cabins are equipped with large bed and ceiling fan.

Tips for Coron Island Hopping

Group tour or private tour.

We opted for a private tour because we liked to be alone on the road and so we can still influence the individual stops. So we can decide to stay longer at one stop and maybe skip another stop, just as we want. Also, we do not have to take into account others. A private tour is not much more expensive than a group tour. You pay only about twice as much as you pay for 2 people in a group tour. We think it is worth it and would recommend a private tour if it fits into your budget.

Which Tour to choose in Coron?

There are several tours in Coron and if you have enough time and money it can make sense to do several tours on consecutive days. This way you won’t miss any of the highlights of the beautiful island world in front of Coron. However, due to time constraints, we only chose the SUper Ultimate Boat Tour in Coron, as it really covers the most beautiful and popular sights in Coron.

What can you do in Coron besides Island Hopping?

On the main island itself there is not much to do, most of it is really in the sea on the islands in front of Coron. But if you want to do some things without a boat, here are some suggestions for sightseeing on Coron:

Climbing Mount Tapyas

This is a popular activity on the otherwise rather poor in sightseeing main island of Coron. Especially at sunset many people walk up the 721 steps. It takes about 45 minutes and you don’t even have to be very athletic. At the top, a viewing platform with 360 degree view is waiting for you. There is no entrance fee and it is open all day.

Hot Springs of Makinit (“Maquinit Hot Springs”)

At the south coast of Busuanga the Maquinit Hot Springs are waiting for you. It takes about 30 minutes to get there by tricycle and the round trip will cost you 400 Pesos. Your driver will wait for you while you are in the hot springs. The entrance fee is 200 Pesos and the hot springs are open from 8am to 8pm. By the way, the water has a temperature of almost 40 degrees.

This was also the reason why we decided not to visit (unlike our trip to Costa Rica ), because we were already hot enough, so we felt more like cooling down than going to a hot spring. However, if you like to relax in hot springs, this may be the one for you.

Calauit Safari Tour

It sounds strange, but you can really do a safari on Coron. In the north of the island there is a zoo you can visit. There are actually giraffes, zebras and other animals from the African savannah. We found this a bit strange, and since we have already seen elephants and co. in Tanzania , we decided against a visit to this zoo. But if you want to see African animals in the Philippines, you can book a tour there here* .

Coron Ultimate Tour I What To Expect

In 3 Days by Boat from Coron to El Nido

This was really the highlight of our whole Philippines round trip . In 3 days you will travel by boat from dream island to dream beach and hardly miss a highlight. 2 nights you stay on lonely beaches in beautiful bays. And you will experience things that you would never see on a day trip. Learn more about such a multi-day boat tour in our travel report:

Taylor Swift urges US fans to vote in Super Tuesday elections

Taylor Swift poses on the red carpet as she attends the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California, U.S., February 4, 2024.

REUTERS/Mario Anzuoni

NEW YORK, USA – Pop megastar Taylor Swift encouraged her millions of fans on Tuesday, March 5 to vote in Super Tuesday primary contests across the US, but did not endorse any specific candidate.

The 14-time Grammy award winner, whose ongoing Eras tour is the world’s highest-grossing concert tour with more than $1 billion in ticket sales, told her 282 million followers on Instagram to make a voting plan on Tuesday, and linked to vote.org, a nonprofit voter registration group.

“I wanted to remind you guys to vote the people who most represent YOU into power,” she wrote on Instagram Stories, in white text against a black backdrop.

Swift has waded into politics before, endorsing President Joe Biden, a Democrat, in 2020. She has also denounced former President Donald Trump, a Republican.

Victor Shi, the youngest elected delegate for Joe Biden in 2020, cheered Swift’s post, thanking her on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

“This is a simple, but hugely effective nudge for her followers — & just remember, voter registration rates broke records because of her,” he wrote. “This is why we will win.”

Nearly three-quarters of self-described avid Taylor Swift fans are white and just over half are women and Democrats, according to a March 2023 survey from Morning Consult. Forty-five percent of survey participants identified as millennials.

During an appearance on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers last week, Biden joked with the host comedian about conspiracy theories that the president and the singer-songwriter are in “cahoots.” Meyers said recent polling showed 18% of Americans believed Biden and Swift were somehow working together.

Swift’s post came as Meta-owned Instagram and Facebook suffered a more than two-hour outage caused by a technical issue that impacted hundreds of thousands of users globally.

Swift’s massive fan base lifted local economies as she toured the United States and around the globe in 2023, and her romance with professional football player Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs drew new fans to the team’s games and the Super Bowl. – Rappler.com
