Viking's exploration program boasts special access to behind-the-scenes experiences curated for travelers interested in history, food or science. Top Cruises Designed for Adults

While many all-inclusive – or mostly all-inclusive – boutique and luxury cruise lines are family-friendly, many of the onboard venues and activities are adult-by-design. Since there are few (or no) activities geared toward younger cruisers and no babysitting services, you typically won't find parents with young children on these ships.

Courtesy of Azamara

Azamara's four upscale boutique ships provide immersive travel experiences geared toward adults. These smaller ships – accommodating a maximum of 702 guests – sail waterways and rivers larger ships can't access, docking in city centers and unique ports of call around the globe.

Many Azamara voyages also offer longer stays and overnights in port not found on many other itineraries, including wine and culture itineraries. Some even feature special events, such as a voyage to the Monaco Grand Prix in May 2023 and 2024, or a 12-night round-trip cruise from Buenos Aires, Argentina , to attend Carnival in Rio de Janeiro . In addition, the line is extending its offerings on Country Intensive voyages in 2023 and 2024 with itineraries in destinations like various European countries, South Africa, Australia and Japan.

On board you'll find a wide selection of casual and formal dining options ranging from Windows Cafe to the main dining room, Discoveries Restaurant. Specialty restaurant offerings include top-notch steak and seafood at Prime C or, if you prefer, Italian fare at Aqualina. First offered on Azamara Onward (the newest ship) before being expanded to the whole fleet, Atlas Bar serves innovative craft cocktails like the London Fog Martini or Tuscan Delight. Discoveries Lounge is another guest favorite for mingling with fellow cruisers at the end of the day. Wine aficionados will enjoy pairing limited-production and rare vintages from the Wine Cellar with dinner in the evenings.

Cruise fares include stateroom accommodations; select spirits, wine and beer; gratuities; and nonalcoholic beverages like bottled water, specialty coffees and tea. You'll also get access to complimentary AzAmazing Celebrations with special evening and daytime events ashore and on the ship. Additional amenities like a complimentary internet package, free specialty dining, butler service and other perks come with suite accommodations.

Lumière restaurant on Scenic Eclipse

Courtesy of Scenic

Scenic Eclipse, touted as "The World's First Discovery Yacht," offers an all-inclusive, ultra-luxurious experience for just 228 guests (with 172 crew). The ship's Polar Class 6 rating enables it to sail to destinations like Antarctica. On these expedition-style voyages, the ship will carry only 200 guests and a total of 192 crew. All suite accommodations include a private veranda or terrace; butler service; state-of-the-art amenities; Egyptian cotton linens; and an in-suite minibar stocked with Champagne, wine and other personally selected beverages. You'll also find indulgences like onboard helicopters for intimate excursions and Scenic Neptune, an underwater submarine.

Guests can enjoy up to 10 dining experiences on the ship, including fine dining at Lumière. This elegant French restaurant seats just 35 guests and features a multicourse degustation menu and a Champagne bar. For a less formal option, check out the Asian, Indian and Middle Eastern specialties – and the intimate teppanyaki grill experience – at Night Market @ Koko's. When it's time for an after-dinner drink, sample one (or several) of 100-plus whiskeys available at Scenic Lounge Bar. Other onboard activities include taking a culinary class at Scenic Épicure, getting an invigorating treatment at Senses Spa, or just relaxing with spectacular sea views and Champagne on deck 10 at the Panorama Bar.

The line's second luxury yacht, Scenic Eclipse II, set sail on its inaugural voyage from Lisbon, Portugal , in mid-April 2023. The new ship is 550 feet in length and nearly identical to its sister ship, Scenic Eclipse. One addition to the vessel is the new Sky Deck. This space boasts 270-degree views, a bar with indoor and outdoor seating, and six private cabanas. What's more, the oval-shaped Sky Deck pool is the perfect place to kick back – and it's the place to be during the sail-away deck party, especially as the sun sets over the ocean.

Thanks to a full glass canopy over the interior space, adult passengers can enjoy quiet lounging areas, swimming pools and whirlpool tubs with a view, no matter the weather. On top of that, select ships feature a cascading lagoon for further relaxation. Be sure to grab a tropical cocktail or zero-proof drink at Solarium Bar (or Sunshine Bar, on Quantum ships) to sip poolside while enjoying the ocean vistas.

Adults-only cruises are designed with adults in mind. From the staterooms, dining venues and lounges to the onboard entertainment and excursions ashore, adults-only cruises cater to adults 18 to 21 years of age and older. What you won't find on board are water or theme parks, climbing walls, game rooms and restaurants serving kid-friendly foods.

If you're looking for a relaxing, fun and romantic vacation without the kids in tow – and you don't want to deal with the other passengers' children on your getaway – consider booking a sailing specifically for cruisers at least 18 years or older. Alternatively, select a cruise line or ship that caters to mostly adults and doesn't offer any services, kids clubs, babysitting or activities for children.

You don't have to be a kid to be a Disney Cruise Line fan. While the line does not have an adults-only vessel within the fleet, there are plenty of kid-free spaces for adults only. Adults can enjoy cocktails, dinner and entertainment in several venues and relax at designated pool areas on the ship. There's also private stretch of beach on the line's private island, Castaway Way – sans kids.

In addition, Disney offers one of the best programs to keep youngsters entertained at sea, so you'll find that many of the children hang out in the kids club during the day and in the evening. These club spaces are divided by age groups, and they're typically open until midnight or 1 a.m. so parents – and even adults without kids – can enjoy a kid-free night out on the ship.

Not in the Mood to Cruise With Kids? These Adult Sailings Are Totally (or Mostly) Kid-Free

From adults-only cruise lines to itineraries geared specifically to adults, on these cruises you won’t see many or any little ones..

Whether you have kids or grandkids or not, whether you love kids or don’t, sometimes there is just something extremely appealing about the idea of a relaxing cruise vacation minus the youngsters. That’s where adults-only cruises come in.

Back in the late 1990s when Torstein Hagen created Viking River Cruises , now by far Europe’s largest river cruise operator, it was purposely designed for adults with no kids allowed onboard . That philosophy stands as the company has moved into ocean cruises and expedition ships .

Likewise, when British billionaire Richard Branson launched the first ship of his Virgin Voyages cruise brand two years ago, it was with no one under age 18 allowed onboard. The cruise line later riffed on the subject with ads showing kids very displeased that they couldn’t get in on the fun with grownups.

While there are no other major cruise lines that outright ban the under-18 set, there are ways travelers can lessen the chances there will be many or any children on their cruise.

If you really want to avoid kids, don’t cruise during a school break period (such as spring break, summer, or winter holidays), pick an itinerary for more than two weeks (length being a deterrent to the family crowd— world cruise , anyone?), or look toward an ultra-luxurious cruise or one that involves an expensive airfare—not everyone wants to splurge on an upscale experience for their progeny.

Also keep in mind the smaller the ship—and fewer onboard experiences for kids (such as kids clubs and big water slides)—the greater the chance youngsters won’t be onboard. Here are our picks for the best adults-only cruises.

Whether you cruise with Viking on one of the company’s many 190-passenger river cruise vessels in Europe, on the line’s 930-passenger ocean cruise ships that sail around the world, or on one of its two 378-passenger expedition ships, you’ll be treated to a fine-tuned cruising experience that is geared strictly to adults. You need to be age 18 and up to get onboard to enjoy the many perks covered in the all-inclusive fares. Those perks consist of shore excursions in every port, free wine and beer, all meals (including numerous restaurant experiences and nightly seafood buffets), engaging lectures hosted by historians and other experts, and Nordic spas complete with hot sauna, steam room, and a chilly snow grotto.

Adult-only cruises offered by Virgin Voyages take place on three 2,770-passenger ships (a fourth is set to debut in December 2023) that sail the Caribbean, Europe, and the South Pacific. The onboard atmosphere is edgy, cheeky, full of subtle—and not so subtle—sexual innuendo, and fun done in an inclusive, adult way unlike anything the cruise industry has ever seen before . Expect lots of day drinking, lively nighttime parties and entertainment, an onboard tattoo parlor, and indulgent food, including an over-the-top molecular dining experience and the “Lick Me Till . . . Ice Cream” shop (for no extra charge)—in between trips to the wellness retreat with a mud room and ’80s-style aerobics classes for the full detox and retox Virgin experience.

Azamara Cruises

This upscale line with four small ships does not restrict kids but tends to attract well-traveled couples age 50 and up who like the idea of seeing the world from the vantage point of a floating boutique hotel. The onboard atmosphere on Azamara sailings is both convivial and sophisticated, on ships that carry a maximum of 704 guests. The vessels feature a library with faux fireplace, an upscale steakhouse for an elevated dining experience, and a “living room” for drinking and socializing.

Itineraries are focused on maximizing time in port, with cultural immersion including small group shore excursions and “AzAmazing” experiences where, for instance, you and other guests might be treated to complimentary private acrobatics show in Monaco. Special golf cruises with PerryGolf include play at such prestigious courses as Ireland’s Royal Portrush.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

With a fleet of 490- to 750-passenger ships, Regent Seven Seas Cruises is one of the most expensive cruise lines out there and touts that it is “the world’s most luxurious cruise line”—a status it gets by, for instance, outfitting its latest ships with Carrara marble details, crystal chandeliers, over-the-top suites, and multi-million-dollar art collections. Fares include a broad choice of shore excursions such as a mud bath experience in Cartagena, Spain, premium wine and spirits, and business-class international airfare. While the line does not ban kids—and in fact, encourages families at holidays and on summer cruises in Alaska—not everyone wants to pay top dollar for experiences that may go over kids’ heads.

Silversea Cruises

With its sleek ships, a focus on cuisine and drink as a cultural experience, butlers that pamper all guests, and an overall ultra-luxury ambience, Silversea is a favorite of well-heeled adult travelers. Grandparents may bring a multigenerational group onboard for a holiday or summertime sailing (the 596-passenger Silver Muse is the only Silversea ship with a children’s playroom), but with air-inclusive fares that start at around $800 a day, and no discounts for kids, you’re unlikely to have your pool time interrupted by shouts of “Marco Polo.” Rather, you’re more likely to hear someone call an attendant over for more champagne and a side of caviar, both complimentary and available 24/7.

Windstar guarantees there won’t be young kids onboard—you must be age eight or up to sail. That said, it’s rare to see any kids at all. The upscale line’s 148- to 342-passenger ships deliver an intimate, adult atmosphere whether you are on a four- or five-masted ship with billowing sails or an all-suite motorized yacht. Cabins and suites are mostly designed for two and attract couples looking for romance at sea, in addition to excellent dining, enhanced by the line’s status as the official cruise line of the James Beard Foundation. Borrow a kayak from your ship’s own marina by day and cap an evening of food and drink with quiet time out on deck, watching the moon reflect on the sea.

Best Adult Only Cruises

  • Honeymooners

In the last few decades, the cruise industry has ballooned into a multi-billion-dollar industry with nearly 30 million people going on cruises every year. It’s also gotten much more diverse than it used to be. You can find a cruise in pretty much every category nowadays, including families with kids , adventurers, foodies and luxury travelers . You can choose everything from room size and onboard facilities, to itineraries and even the general atmosphere of the cruise ship. And another new trend has emerged: adult only cruises .

100% Adult Only Cruise Lines

People who are looking for a relaxing and quiet cruise trip can now opt for adult only cruises. No more yelling children in the pool, or crying toddlers in the restaurants. This relatively new concept has emerged due to the popularity of adult only areas aboard regular cruise ships. It was only a matter of time before this was extended to entire ships.

While most cruise lines still focus on offering family-friendly cruises , there are some that have pioneered adult-only cruises. Their ships are either entirely kid-free or at least their (lack of) kid-friendly facilities keep away traveling families.

Some cruise lines simply have adult-only ships; others still accept children, but definitely have fewer on board.

The key to finding adult-only cruises is looking for those sailings that lack family appeal. Ships without children facilities and cruises with a strong focus on culture, food and history will naturally have far fewer kids onboard.

Below, you’ll find some of the best adult-only cruises available today.

A brand-new addition to, and some would say disruptor of, the cruise industry, Richard Branson’s Virgin Voyages hit the seas in 2020 and is a completely adult-only cruise line . To sail on any of its ships, passengers have to be 18 years or older.

Virgin Voyages offers cruises that are hip, cool and maybe even sexy. Branson himself has said that the goal is to draw in people who’d never have considered going on a cruise before. Cutting-edge amenities range from a test kitchen to the world’s largest daybed at sea to a fancy nightclub.

The Virgin Voyages fleet consists of four ships , each catering to adults 18 years and older. The maiden ship, the Scarlet Lady is a high-end, ultra-modern cruise ship that can accommodate up to 2,770 passengers and has a strong focus on the body and mind. Adults can get pampered at a world-class spa, complete with salt room, hydrotherapy pool, quartz beds, mudroom and the like. Outside, an outdoor sundeck and yoga area will be flanked by a running track. Additionally, the indoor gym, boxing ring and group classes will offer even more physical enjoyment.

Let’s not forget, though, that Virgin Voyages will also feature tons of culinary and entertainment venues. This all to make Virgin Voyages one of the best-ever adult-only cruise lines.

With a strict 18-years-or-older policy, all Viking Ocean Cruises have been adult-only cruises since the very beginning. Ever since they revolutionized the river cruise industry, with stylish ships appealing to an older demographic, they’ve been one of the leading cruise lines for grownups. With itineraries focused on immersion in local culture, cuisine and onshore activities, it’s a fantastic choice for a more sophisticated (and longer) cruise.

Instead of offering all kinds of non-stop entertainment and 24-hour buffet restaurants, Viking Ocean Cruises gives its passengers the chance to actually relax in between ports. They strive to offer, as they themselves put it, “ The Thinking Person’s Cruise “. Every detail you see on board a Viking ship was thoughtfully designed to allow you to completely immerse yourself in the destinations you’re visiting, as well as their culture, art, history and cuisine.

There are tastings of local wines guided by a sommelier, cooking classes and guest lectures. Curated libraries provide the opportunity to read up on everything and anything you’d like. It’s not only about nourishing your intellect, creativity and spirit, though. You can also pamper your body at the on-board fitness center and spa, a sanctuary of typical Nordic wellness featuring a sauna, various pools and baths, and even a snow grotto.

The iconic Viking ships sail all over the world , including the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, the Caribbean and East Asia, and even round-the-world cruises .

While originally a millennial-only cruise line, U by Uniworld changed its age restrictions in 2018 and now offers river cruises in Europe to adults of all ages. They still focus heavily on younger adults in their branding and marketing, though, which sets them apart from other river cruise lines.

Their itineraries are packed with immersive activities, social events and cultural programs, catering perfectly to the millennial lifestyle where experiences are more important than materialism. On their river cruises on the rivers of the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary, you can expect plenty of fun things to do, from countryside bike rides to hands-on cocktail workshops, cultural walking tours and kayaking excursions.

U by Uniworld has numerous river ships, all of which offer unique experiences and elegant spaces. It’s worth highlighting two of them, though. Simply called The A and The B, these ships can accommodate 120 passengers. Made to cruise Europe’s most iconic rivers, they’re not just a floating boutique hotel, but also a water taxi, yoga studio, nightclub, restaurant and bar.

Many of the available on-board activities are also a bit “out of the box” and you won’t find them on any other cruise line. They include things like tent camping on the ship’s rooftop, silent disco parties, and top-deck wine and paint classes in some of Europe’s most picturesque locations.

Mostly Adult Only Cruises With Adult Amenities

In addition to the top adult-only cruise lines above, there are several others that also cater mainly to adults. Although they’re technically not 100% adults only, they do make for a great choice if you’re looking for a more sophisticated and grown-up atmosphere. When you book a cruise with the following cruise lines, you won’t find many kids on board (though there might be the occasional family).

Carnival Cruises Serenity Adult-Only Retreat

The perfect example of what sparked the new adult-only cruise trend is Carnival’s Serenity Adult-Only Retreat . While Carnival is also a family-friendly cruise line, it’s this kind of 21+ retreats that have proven immensely popular among grown-up passengers. You’ll still be at the same ship as the kids, but while they’re participating in a themed event or other kids’ activity, you’ll be swaying in a hammock, sitting at the bar or simply lazing in a sunbed.

Additionally, Carnival Cruises is a great choice for honeymoon cruises , just because of their various adult-only areas. The Alchemy Bar, Piano Bar and Tequila Bar, for example, are accessible only to people 21 years and older, great places to kick back with an adult beverage. For more evening action, you can head to the Nightclub, where DJs spin the latest hits and theme parties are no uncommon.

Alternatively, the Cloud 9 Spa Thermal Suite offers ultimate relaxation with its steam baths, dry heat rooms and other climate-controlled areas.

Although Silversea does accept children older than 6 months, there are little or no kids’ programs on board their ships. Silversea cruises don’t come with childcare services, children’s entertainment or supervision. This in itself greatly limits the number of kids on board their ships.

Instead, Silversea focuses on giving guests a luxurious cruise experience. This is one of the top luxury cruise lines in the world, offering only all-inclusive cruises to amazing destinations. There are butlers, 24-hour gourmet dining options, first-class wine selections and award-winning shows and performances. While not strictly adults-only in theory, in practice, Silversea cruises are essentially high-end cruises for adults.

Another fantastic luxury cruise line, Seabourn also offers all-inclusive cruises focused on adults. On Seabourn ships, there are no children’s programs at all and it’s quite unusual to see families with kids on these cruises. Although parents could take their kids on a Seabourn cruise, they’ll have to entertain and supervise them 24/7 themselves.

This is a great cruise line for travelers looking for an experience-rich cruise on a small, intimate ship. Seabourn offers excellent cuisine, world-class service and relaxed luxury, all in some of the world’s most extraordinary cruise destinations.

Unable to accommodate children younger than 8, while passengers under 21 must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 25 years old, Windstar Cruises also essentially offers adult-only cruises in practice.

The intimate atmosphere and elegant designs of their small cruise ships are adult-oriented and not really suitable for children, especially younger ones. There are no childcare, entertainment or other kid-friendly services on board. Additionally, Windstar also doesn’t offer a child rate—each minor occupying a stateroom as a third person will be charged the applicable “third person rate.”

Instead of focusing on traveling families, Oceania Cruises caters almost exclusively to adult travelers. Infants and children are allowed, however, but there are restrictions and very few services. The minimum age on Oceania Cruises is 1 year, while passengers younger than 18 must be accompanied by and stay in the same stateroom as an adult.

Onboard Oceania’s ships, you’ll find a wide array of adult-focused facilities and services, from a running track and artist loft to a culinary center, library and lecture rooms. Additionally, Oceania is one of the more affordable small-ship cruise lines that cater to adults.

On their website , Azamara “discourages families from sailing with children under 18 years of age, as the on board ambience and experience caters to adults and there are no activities for children or baby-sitting services available.” It doesn’t get more direct and clearer than that, which basically makes Azamara an adults-only cruise line.

Azamara is a fantastic cruise line for grownups who’d like to really immerse themselves in their destination(s), indulge in local cuisine, spend more time in ports and have more overnight stays, and enjoy high-end boutique hotel-like services.

The best adults-only cruises to try if you can’t stand being around kids on vacation

Gene Sloan

What are the best adults-only cruises — the ones that not only ban kids but cater to grown-up tastes and interests?

You may be asking because you just spent time on a megaship where the kids took over the pools and hot tubs (not to mention the elevators), much to your chagrin. Or, you might be looking for a vacation with more lectures and less limbo, or perhaps a cruise that skews more R-rated than G.

The list of cruises for adults only is, alas, very short. Only a handful of cruise lines ban children from their ships and promise cruises for grown-ups — perhaps the most notable being cruise newcomer Virgin Voyages and fast-growing Viking .

The trend in recent years in cruising is, in fact, more family-focused, with more kids appearing on ships of all types. Indeed, some of the biggest, best-known cruise brands have gone full-bore after the family market , to the extent that the sun-soaked top decks of their ships sometimes can feel more like a scene out of "Daddy Day Care" than a blissful vacation retreat.

For more cruise guides, tips and news, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Don't despair, though. Even as many lines double down on the family market, a small group of cruise operators remains all-in on the idea of adult-only cruises.

Here are our picks for the best adults-only cruise lines, with a grown-up vibe to boot.

Virgin Voyages

adult only cruises europe

The much-ballyhooed new line from Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group has banned children under the age of 18 from its ships. It's part of an effort to create a hipper, more-sophisticated, adult-focused vibe that company leaders think is sorely lacking in the cruise world.

"We have done a ton of research really trying to create a sophisticated experience," Virgin Voyages CEO Tom McAlpin said in the days before the line's 2021 debut . "I've done some personal research. We found that when you put kids in the pool, they scream, and we don't want that."

Related: I've been on more than 150 cruise ships. Here's what I thought of Scarlet Lady

Virgin Voyages' first three adults-only cruise ships, the 2,770-passenger Scarlet Lady and sister vessels Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady , cater to grown-ups looking for a decidedly adult sort of fun with such offerings as interactive dance parties and a drag queen performance. It also offers a karaoke lounge with pink-and-purple karaoke rooms and a tattoo parlor (read about how one of our staffers was among the first to get inked on board ).

What you won't find on the three ships (a fourth is due later this year) are waterslides, watery splash zones, teen lounges and all the other family-friendly features that are becoming so common on bigger ships.

adult only cruises europe

To create an adults-only cruise experience, Virgin Voyages took a page from fast-growing Viking 's playbook. Viking's 12-ship ocean cruise division has banned children under the age of 18 since it debuted in 2015. In addition, its 80-ship river cruise division has had a minimum age limit for more than two decades. (Initially, the cut-off was age 12; as of 2019, that jumped to 18, too.)

Not that Virgin and Viking are anything alike. Virgin is designed to appeal to millennials and older travelers who want to party like they are millennials. Viking, by contrast, is the anti-millennial line.

Viking's target market is squarely in the 55-plus bracket. It zeroes in on that demographic with an upscale, destination-focused experience that is heavy on what the industry likes to call "enrichment" — onboard lectures and other learning opportunities. It also emphasizes tours focused on history and culture (with at least one free excursion in each port) and entertainment offerings that veer more toward string quartets than dancers in string bikinis.

"What we're looking to do is try not to be everything for everyone," Viking's executive vice president of marketing, Richard Marnell, told TPG. "We do not have a kids' program. What we have is . . . [an] immersive experience that is best suited for people that are intellectually curious."

P&O Cruises

adult only cruises europe

This storied British line clearly sees the demand for adults-only cruise ships, but it isn't giving up on the family market, either. The line splits the difference between the two segments. Five of its seven vessels (Arvia, Iona, Britannia, Ventura and Azura) are marketed as "family-friendly" and open to passengers of all ages. The other two (Arcadia and Aurora) are reserved exclusively for adults.

Given that more than 95% of the Southampton, England-based cruise line's passengers are British, you'll probably want to be either British yourself or a major Anglophile to consider booking one of the latter two vessels. Sailing with P&O Cruises is a very British experience, something that becomes clear the moment you see its vessels. They feature hulls painted with massive Union Jacks.

In addition, you'll find quintessentially British offerings on board P&O Cruises ships, such as elaborate afternoon teas, quoits on the top deck and restaurant menus designed by chefs big in the United Kingdom, such as Marco Pierre White.

That said, if you're a Princess Cruises fan, you might feel right at home on a P&O Cruises ship. Nestled under the same corporate umbrella, the two brands are longtime sisters that have swapped ships back and forth (though Holland America fans might be interested to know that Arcadia actually shares a ship design with that line's Vista class).

For booking purposes, P&O Cruises considers anyone who will be 18 or older when sailing an adult.

Saga Cruises

adult only cruises europe

Like P&O Cruises, Saga Cruises is a British line that has honed in on the business of offering voyages just for adults. But it goes way beyond what P&O Cruises or any other line does in shunning younger travelers. The minimum age at Saga Cruises isn't 18 or even 21 — it's 50.

That's right — you won't find a single millennial or even that many Generation Xers on board a Saga Cruises ship (at 58, even the oldest members of Generation X only make the cut-off by eight years). You will find a heck of a lot of baby boomers, many of them retired.

Saga Cruises operates just two ocean vessels, sailing exclusively out of the U.K., plus several river ships. Like P&O Cruises, it's a product that is probably best for British travelers or big-time Anglophiles.

Other adult-focused cruises

In addition to lines that ban passengers under the age of 18 outright, a number of cruise operators allow young children but get relatively few of them.

Examples include such upscale lines as Regent Seven Seas Cruises , Silversea Cruises and Seabourn , which cater heavily to an older crowd. Small-ship specialist Windstar Cruises allows tweens and teenagers on its six ships, but it doesn't allow any children under the age of 8.

Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, which sells both ocean and river cruises, traditionally discourages customers from bringing passengers under the age of 12 on vessels except during Christmas holiday sailings.

Also, the longer the cruise, the fewer children you will find. Book a two-plus-week sailing to a more exotic location, like Asia or South America, during the school year on a line like Holland America or Princess, and you'll share the ship predominantly with adults.

Unforgettable Getaways: Discover the Best Adults-Only Cruises

author image

See recent posts by Megan Johnson

Going on a cruise is on the bucket list of many travelers. While most cruises seem adult-oriented, most of them allow children, and although many do have kid zones and clubs, there is no avoiding them on the ship unless you book an adults-only cruise. Luckily, there are several to choose from.

While some cruise lines aren’t necessarily adults, they cater to older crowds, and you’d be hard-pressed to find any younger passengers. Most of these adult cruises are fairly luxurious and not particularly family-friendly. From Europe to the South Pacific, 3-day to 3-months, here are the best adults-only cruises (or nearly adults-only) for your next sailing adventure.

Viking Ocean Cruises

Viking Venus

Viking Ocean Cruises offers luxurious small-ship cruises with elegant Scandinavian-inspired decor, cultural enrichment programs, and inclusive amenities such as shore excursions, Wi-Fi, and fine dining. Travel to destinations in Europe, Africa/The Middle East, North America, the Caribbean, South America, Asia and Australia. Kids aren’t the only thing you won’t find on Viking Ocean Cruises; they also have no casinos, no charge for wine or beer at lunch and dinner, and no entrance fee for the spa.

Every room on a Viking Ocean Cruise has a king-sized bed, private veranda, heated bathroom floors, and other amenities to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Depending on the cabin category, amenities may include comfortable bedding with premium linens, ample storage space, flat-screen TVs with complimentary on-demand movies and programming, mini-refrigerators with complimentary beverages, and luxury toiletries in the bathrooms.

Enjoy one offshore excursion at all ports of call, including visits to UNESCO sites. Onboard, you’ll have access to serene Scandinavian spaces like the library (curated with literature pertinent to your destination), and the Living Room, a perfect escape for tranquility during your cruise vacation. You’ll have a pool, lounge, spa and more to keep you occupied during days at sea.

Minimum Age: 18

Viking River Cruises

Viking Seine Ships

Viking River Cruises offers luxury river cruises across Europe, Asia, and Egypt. They focus on providing immersive cultural experiences with expert-led shore excursions, onboard enrichment programs, and upscale amenities. Viking emphasizes comfort, exploration, and enrichment, catering to travelers interested in history, art, and cuisine. Viking aims to provide a refined and intimate cruising experience along some of the world’s most iconic waterways with a fleet of modern river ships.

Choose from rooms with windows, balconies, and verandas; all beds come with queen-sized beds that can convert into two twin beds if you wish. Higher-end suites include welcome champagne to start your journey off right. Amenities include heated bathroom floors, individual climate control, and underbed suitcase storage.

Onboard, enjoy guest lectures and port talks for a more in-depth look at your destination, live performances, craft and cooking demonstrations, and more to keep you occupied on river days. While you may not have as many restaurant choices, the Restaurant and Aquavit Terrace® provide a culinary experience like no other. Wine, beer, and other non-alcoholic drinks are included in your base fare. Offshore, enjoy privileged access to attractions not normally open to the general public.

P&O Cruises – Aurora and Arcadia

Aurora

P&O offers adults-only cruises and family-friendly sailings, with Aurora and Arcadia reserved for adults only. With stylish decor, gourmet dining options, and a focus on hospitality, P&O appeals to couples and solo travelers seeking a refined experience.

Aurora is the smallest ship, at an 1874-passenger capacity, and provides a more intimate experience. Choose from a wide range of itineraries through Spain, the British Isles, and the Mediterranean. Although a smaller ship, you won’t be lacking for entertainment; the Aurora hosts three pools, nineteen restaurants and bars, entertainment including a game show, illusion show, theatre, live music, and a spa.

Budget travelers can choose from inside, and sea-view rooms, and travelers with a bit more to spend and who prefer a bit more comfort in their accommodations can choose from balcony rooms or suites and mini-suites.

Arcadia, with a 2388-passenger capacity, is the bigger of the two, but you still won’t see anyone under eighteen onboard. Choose from itineraries in Europe, Scandinavia, and the Mediterranean, or, if you’re feeling adventurous, take Arcadia’s 99-day around-the-world cruise. With two pools, fifteen restaurants and bars, a three-tier theatre, an art gallery, a cinema and more – you won’t be without things to see and do while on board.

Like Aurora, Arcadia has a room for whatever your needs are: budget inside rooms for those who know they won’t be spending a lot of time in their room, sea view rooms, balcony rooms, as well as mini-suites and suites for those who need more space while traveling.

Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages’ cruises are all adults-only (though for the young at heart)- they offer a trendy and inclusive atmosphere with unique features like drag brunches, experimental dining, and wellness offerings. It’s ideal for travelers looking for a playful and unconventional cruise experience. Choose from destinations worldwide, with each ship holding about 2700 passengers. Setting sail in 2021, Virgin Voyages has quickly become the go-to cruise line for anyone looking to cruise the waters without kids.

You won’t find any buffets on Virgin cruises; instead, you’ll find “intimate spaces and diverse options to match your mood” with menus created by Michelin-starred chefs. Stay fit with the outdoor running track or fitness room, relax at the spa, and be entertained on-board with your choice of dance, musical and theatrical performances.

You’ll have your pick from choice of rooms, from the insider rooms, the most affordable sea view rooms, a Sea Terrace Cabin, which have the added feature of a private terrace where you can relax and take in the ocean breeze. And for those looking for the ultimate luxury, you can choose from RockStar Suites: which include various perks such as access to a dedicated RockStar Agent, priority boarding, and exclusive dining experiences, or Mega RockStar Suites which feature private hot tubs, and access to exclusive areas of the ship.

Silversea Cruises

Silver Whisper

Silversea specializes in ultra-luxury small-ship cruises, with spacious suites, personalized service, and immersive itineraries to exotic destinations on all seven continents. While not strictly adult-only, Silversea’s intimate atmosphere appeals to travelers seeking a refined and exclusive experience.

Included in your booking is a suite, butler, one on-shore excursion per port, and all food and beverages. Every suite has an ocean view, and the more luxurious ones have a veranda and ample seating room. No matter what you choose, it will be spacious – Silversea boasts the most space per guest than any other cruiseline.

You’ll find a spa, fitness center, various restaurants, and entertainment onboard.  On Silver Nova, Silver Moon, and Silver Dawn, you’ll find Silversea’s S.A.L.T. program, S.A.L.T stands for Sea And Land Taste, which gives you the chance to delve into a true culinary experience wherever you are: from meeting the most famous chef in a country, exploring an organic farm, or making pastry- you’ll get a hands-on culinary experience.

Holland America Line

Rotterdam

Like Silversea, Holland America allows guests under eighteen, but they are geared towards adults, and any cruise over 25 days does not offer a kids club. Holland America appeals to travelers seeking a traditional yet sophisticated cruise experience. Destinations for cruises over 25 days include around-the-world cruises, the Arctic Circle, the Pacific, and Japan.

Holland America’s ships offer budget inside rooms without windows for guests who merely want a place to lay their head at night, and they offer sea view suites in various sizes to suit your needs. All rooms include 24-hour in-room dining, daily housekeeping, storage, and complimentary shoe-shining service.

Onboard, you’ll find a spa and salon, fitness center, pools, a casino, restaurants, and a wide variety of entertainment.

Minimum Age: None

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Seven Seas Splendor®

Regent Seven Seas Cruises is known for its all-inclusive luxury, offering spacious suites, gourmet dining, and complimentary shore excursions. Another line that is not exclusively adults-only, Regent’s upscale atmosphere attracts discerning travelers seeking a refined and pampering experience.

Regent’s ships are smaller than the major cruise lines – ranging from 490 passengers to 750. One thing they all have in common? Luxury. Their Explorer line features balconies with every suite, with the highlight being their Regent Suite, which features a balcony with a mini pool, private in-suite spa with sauna, steam room, jetted tub, walk-in closets, two bedrooms, living room, and free laundry. Grand Circle Cruises also specializes in cruises for passengers over fifty, although they allow kids over thirteen to join, and they claim that there are long bus sightseeing tours that younger travelers may not enjoy. Their itineraries span regions worldwide, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America, often focusing on off-the-beaten-path destinations and cultural immersion.

The ships in their fleet carry only 86-162 passengers, are privately owned, and every cabin has an outside window. Rooms are basic yet comfortable and provide all you need for your voyage. Grand Circle is the perfect cruise line for solo travelers – they have a roommate matching program, where you will be matched up with another solo traveler to room with, and, don’t worry, if they can’t find the perfect roommate for you, they will cover your single supplement fee.

While you may not find the extravagant entertainment there is on bigger cruises, they encourage socializing with other guests and occasionally have local musicians on board to entertain in the evenings. You’ll have the privilege of a local program director who will accompany you off shore and bring you to the top attractions of your destination.

The 11 Best Cruise Lines for Adults

By Janice Wald Henderson

Seabourn Venture

The world's best cruise lines for adults have one major perk in common: the child-free utopia passengers are afforded while sailing. Daydreaming on deck , leisurely romantic dinners, dancing into the wee hours, popping champagne, and even getting tatted—such unabashed joys have everything to do with being grownup and nothing to do with kids.

The best adult cruises allow passengers to pursue relaxation, rejuvenation, and indulgence, undisturbed by tantrum-minded toddlers and other children potentially ruining your me-time groove. For when it's time to sail away from the stresses of life on land, we've pulled together the very best cruise lines for adults, plus their most exciting itineraries available for booking in 2024 and early 2025.

Note that while some of these lines are strictly adults-only, others are adults-oriented, meaning that they may have some well-behaved older children on board during school holidays but otherwise, rarely do. Most are small ship experiences with geared-to-grownup itineraries spanning the globe and leaning into all-inclusiveness and luxury—all the better to admire when it’s all about you.

Ann Marie Patt Travel Advisor Evyssa Vacations

Before we get started, I’m sure you have a few questions.

Here are a few of our clients’ frequently asked questions.

What will the cost breakdown look like for me and my guests?

• Your guest pricing will look like this - Cost of accommodations + transfer + Flights + trip protection if desired. • Your pricing as the Wedding Couple will look like this - Cost of accomodations + transfer + Flights + trip protection if desired. + Cost of wedding • Additionally, you can choose to arrange a group excursion for you and your guests or your wedding party.

Do we, the wedding couple, receive any perks when booking a destination wedding?

Yes! One of the best things about destination weddings at all- inclusive resorts are the perks! Depending on the resort, the perks are based on how many room nights are booked. Those perks range from free room upgrades, free room nights (you receive the monetary value back), free wedding events like a cocktail hour, 3-hour reception, and even a $1,000 credit for the bride and groom! *Perks and concessions are based on a certain number of room nights booked.

What if a guest wants to book on their own?

Only guests booked into your room block will be considered your wedding guests as a rule from the resorts. If a guest books a room out of your room block they will not only have to pay a fee to attend the wedding events but they will also not be getting support from your travel advisor, and you the couple, will lose out on those room nights that go towards the perks and concessions you may receive. If a guest books at an entirely different hotel they will also need to pay an additional fee for a day pass to the resort. Likely when you add everything up with transportation, financially it wouldn’t make sense. We include this information in the booking link your guests will receive.

What exactly does a Certified Destination Wedding Travel Advisor do?

• We take the time to listen to your preferences for your dream wedding and guide to the destination and resort is right for you. • We help you decide on ceremony and reception locations based on your preferences. • We check availability and confirm wedding date and request locations for ceremony, cocktail, and reception. • Negotiate group rates and make room requests. • Work with your guests to make their travel arrangements, including airport transportation and travel insurance and providing a booking site for them to do so. • Communicate with resort management on your behalf should any issues arise. • Provide a wedding website if desired. • Provide an online guestlist so you know who has booked. • Answer questions from your guests about the destination, resort, travel, excursions, weather, etc. • Organize group excursion or activities for you and your guests. • Design your honeymoon in either the same destination or a different location.

Will my travel advisor be at the resort to handle wedding details on site?

Most resorts have a designated on-site wedding coordinator and wedding departments that are like well-oiled machines, they orchestrate unforgettable weddings constantly and do an incredible job making your special day perfect! They take care of all of the fun wedding planning details. However, if you prefer to have your Travel advisor onsite to help with anything travel related, greeting guests and assisting with check ins and check outs, accepting deliveries to the resort on your behalf, organizing excursions etc we would be happy to provide this concierge service at an additional cost.

Do my guests have to book flights through our destination wedding travel advisor?

No, guests can book flights on their own if they’d like to, especially if they want to use credit card points to do so. They can still book transfers, accommodations, and travel insurance through the booking portal. We will just ask them to send over their flight information in order to confirm their transfer pickup times.

How do you, our travel advisor, get paid?

After our initial consultation is complete and you decide that you would like to move forward in the process with us, we ask you to submit a small one-time non-refundable fee of $500.00 which secures the time on our calendar to ensure that you are getting unparalleled personalized service dedicated only to you.

We also want to enjoy a honeymoon after our wedding can you help with that too?

Absolutely! Whether it is at the same resort in an upgraded room, the same destination at another dreamy resort, or a different destination to explore with your sweetheart, we would be honored to design your honeymoon for you as well!

Which ceremonies are available Legal, Symbolic, or Religious?

• Each country has it’s own legal requirements in order for a wedding to be legally recognized. This includes things like blood tests, translated documents, legal officiants, a certain length of stay in destination, etc. which will include higher fees. Then you will have to wait for the legal documents to be sent to you at home and then work with local requirements to have your wedding legally recognized. You will find exact requirements at the destination’s U.S. embassy website and at your local courthouse. • Symbolic ceremonies are a much easier process without legal documents required, most couples like to have an intimate courthouse wedding with their closest family members or alone as a couple prior to leaving or in celebration after their Destination Wedding. • Religious ceremonies have special needs of their own. Certain resorts in certain destinations ensure that specific venue and officiant requirements are met to be able to perform these ceremonies. Your advisor will guide you to the right resorts for you.

Adults-Only Cruises - Everything you need to know

An adults-only cruise is the perfect place to fully relax and unwind. With no children on board, parents are able to kick back and relax with no distractions or worries as to where the kids are, while other passengers are able to unwind without the sound of screaming children. An adults-only cruise is a more refined experience, one where the pool deck is peaceful and perfect for reading your book, and where libraries, planetariums and cookery schools are found instead of skydiving simulators and play areas. Adults-only cruises are great for parents looking for a break, groups of adult friendly and couples, and when it comes to adults-only cruising there’s a whole host of cruise lines from which to choose, From P&O Cruises’ adults-only ships to Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ adults-only sailings through to Viking and newcomer Virgin Voyages, which launched its first adults-only ship Scarlet Lady this year.

Best adults-only cruise lines and cruise ships

Adult-only p&o cruises.

British cruise line P&O Cruises may be known for its family-friendly sailings, but the cruise line actually operates two adults-only cruise ships, Arcadia and Aurora. These two exclusively adult ships offer sailings around the British Isles, Caribbean, Canary Islands, Spain and Portugal, and the Mediterranean – offering stylish, refined and elegant interiors and plenty of eateries and watering holes.

Adult-only Marella Cruises

Marella Cruises offers adults-only sailings aboard its 1,814-passenger ship Marella Explorer 2. The newest ship in the fleet, Marella Explorer 2 has a host of world-class facilities, like a Champneys Spa, a bar-club-casino space and entertainment such as The 19th Hole – a golf-themed bar with golf simulator. Offering discerning adults plenty of choice on their cruise, there are nine bars and nine restaurants, some featuring live pianists while others have quirky swinging seats.

Adult-only Virgin Voyages

The brainchild of Richard Branson, Virgin Voyages turned cruising on its head when it launched in 2020 with its debut ship, Scarlet Lady. The beautiful new ship is adults-only and resembles a floating resort, with quirky interiors, Rock Star suites, a tattoo parlour and no cruise-ship buffet – instead a selection of unique food outlets and bars. Highlights of Scarlet Lady sailings include drag queen brunches, a press-for-champagne app, late-night departures and special sailings to the Beach Club at Bimini – an exclusive club venue in the Bahamas. New ship Valiant Lady is scheduled to debut in 2021.

Adult-only Fred Olsen Cruise Lines

Friendly Fred Olsen Cruise Lines offers a host of adults-only sailings on its fleet of small-to-mid-sized ocean ships. With no children on board, you’ll be able to relax and make friends with other passengers as you sail to far-flung destinations in the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Africa, they even operate an adults-only around the world cruise.

Adult-only Saga Cruises

Available exclusively to the over 50s, you won’t find a child in sight on a Saga cruise, instead a group of likeminded passengers all wanting to relax, enjoy themselves and see the world. Saga operates a fleet of two purpose-built boutique cruise ships, the stylish Spirit of Discovery and Spirit of Adventure, which are more like floating boutique hotels at sea. Perks include tea and coffee in every room, all-balcony cabins, a selection of live music venues and bars (Jools Holland has his own club on Spirit of Discovery) and all food and drink included in its unique and elegant outlets.

Adult-only Viking

All Viking cruises are for over 18s only, allowing adults to relax and unwind in their stunning super-premium ships. All Viking’s ocean ships are identical, kitted out with Scandi cool interiors and boasting facilities like the glass-domed Winter Garden (perfect for afternoon tea), a library, spa, sauna and the Chef’s Table gastronomic experience. On the rivers, Viking’s river and longships are also adults-only, and have the same chic interiors and world-class facilities.

Adult-only Tui River Cruises

All three of Tui River Cruises’ new river ships are adults only, taking adults on relaxing and idyllic cruises down some of Europe’s most famous waterways. The three modern river ships, Tui Isla, Tui Maya and Tui Skye, all carry a maximum of 155 guests and cruses include flight, transfers and meals, along with shore excursion credit. Modern and stylish, the ships sail the Danube, Rhine, Main and Moselle, along with the Dutch and Belgian waterways.

Adult-only Cruise destinations

Adults-only cruises to southern africa.

Visiting Africa, or the Mother Continent, is a pretty special experience, from the sunny and sandy shores of South Africa and Mozambique, to the wind-swept coastline of Namibia, it’s definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience. On an adults-only cruise to Africa, passengers can explore the wonder that is Cape Town, hike up Table Mountain and go wine tasting in the Cape Winelands of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. In Maputo, Mozambique, there’s colonial architecture and buzzing markets to be explored, while Namibia’s remote and rugged coastline hides ghost mining towns such as Kolmanskop and fascinating settlements like Lüderitz.

Adults-only cruises to Norway

Cruising to the beautiful landscapes of Norway is a true bucket-list experience, and one that is well-suited to an adult-only cruise. In Norway, cruisers can experience the majestic beauty of the Norwegian fjords, tranquil waterways running through vast valleys lined by plunging cliffs. In Norway’s far northern reaches, there’s the port of Tromsø, where cruisers have the chance to see the northern lights of midnight sun, and Svalbard with its icy white landscapes and polar bears.

Adults-only cruises to Caribbean

Okay, the children will love the Caribbean, with its sugar-soft beaches, warm water and colourful vibrant ports, but consider this – what better way to explore them than without the kids? An adults-only trip to the Caribbean allows cruisers the chance to fully switch off, spend all day sunbathing on a beach and visit a host of cultural sights, like poignant plantation museums and chocolate and spice farms. Visiting the Caribbean without the kids in tow also allows for trips to the islands’ many rum distilleries, where travellers can tour and taste.

Adults-only cruises to European waterways

Cruising on Europe’s rivers is arguably better suited to adults. A Rhine cruise allows cruisers to see sights like Cologne, Basel and Amsterdam – along with the majestic Rhine Gorge and Franconian wine region – while a cruise on the Danube visits grand European cities such as Vienna, imperial Budapest, pint-sized Slovakia and sails through the impossibly cinematic Wachau Valley. The Elbe, Main and Moselle are also perfect for adults-only river cruises, where days are spent wine tasting, exploring castles and historic riverside cities and going for hikes and bike rides.

Adults-only cruises to The Nile

Cruising the banks of the fabled Nile river is to fully immerse yourself in ancient history. Sailing along the majestic river, cruisers are able to see the Giza Necropolis, home to the Pyramids of Giza and Sphinx, and other jaw-dropping sights such as Luxor and the Valley of the Kings, and the temples and ruins of Esna and Aswan. Nile river cruises are land and history intensive, which combined with the Egyptian heat could easily tired out little ones.

Best adults-only cruising experiences

A market visit and cookery class.

Many premium cruise lines, like Viking, offer the chance to go ashore with the chef, exploring a local market and making purchases for the ship and its kitchen. Viking’s Kitchen Table excursion is a two-part experience which allows guests to tour a local market in the morning and then cook with their purchased in the evening, which involves an interactive cooking class and delicious dinner with wine pairing. Saga also offers fantastic foodie shore excursions and on-board cookery classes.

Visit a vineyard

A vineyard tour is a much better experience without the company of little ones, allowing you to tour a winery and vineyard, unleash your inner wine geek and, of course, sample as many plonks as you like. On a Rhine river cruise, river ships sail through Franconia and other wine-making regions and there are a host of wineries and vineyards along the way to visit – many as cruise ship excursions. In the Douro there’s port and on the Rhône and Saône there’s Burgundy and Beaujolais. In the Mediterranean, there’s plenty to choose from, such as rosé vineyards of Provence and the vineyards of Tuscany (near Livorno).

Enjoy an overnight stay

When travelling on an adults-only cruise, make sure to pick a sailing with overnight stays, with many cruise lines offering overnight stays in cities like Barcelona, Dubrovnik, Ibiza, Amsterdam, Dubai and St Barts. This gives you the chance for deeper exploration during the day and the chance to experience the destination come alive at night, by visiting bars, restaurants and enjoying nightlife. You can return to the ship as late as you like during an overnight stay in port. Virgin Voyages offers late-night departures, stops at party islands and overnight stays.

Make the most of the ship

With no children on board, the ship will instantly be more peaceful, so make sure to make the most of the ship’s facilities – like the swimming pool, spa, Jacuzzis, library, theatre, you name it. On Saga’s Spirit of Discovery, you can take in a show at the 400-seat Playhouse Theatre or enjoy a nightcap and jazz performance at The Club by Jools Holland, while on Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady you can enjoy hydrotherapy pools and quartz beds. Where a child-friendly ship may have a go-kart track, Viking Jupiter has a 26-seat high-tech planetarium.

The target market of Viking Ocean Cruises is squarely in the 55-plus bracket, and it zeroes in on that demographic with an upscale, destination-focused experience that is heavy on what the industry likes to call “enrichment” — onboard lectures and other learning opportunities, included tours focused on history and culture and entertainment that is more string quartet than dancers-in-string-bikinis or midnight dodgeball. “What we’re looking to do is try not to be everything for everyone,” Viking’s executive vice president of marketing, Richard Marnell, told TPG.

On Board Every detail on board a Viking ship is designed to enrich and enhance your travel experience, helping you fully immerse yourself in the rich cultures you are visiting. From our thoughtfully curated shipwide library and the insights of our guest lecturers and Viking Resident Historians to cooking classes with our chef and wine tastings with our sommelier, Viking helps you connect to your destination in every possible way.

On Shore The Viking Way® of exploration takes you deeper, offering behind-the-scenes insights and opportunities. While we include the expected and iconic, such as visits to renowned museums and notable landmarks, we also go beyond, offering Local Life, Working World and optional Privileged Access® experiences in places otherwise difficult to visit.

As the capital of Corsica, this French commune on the island’s western coast is filled with soaring mountains and centuries worth of history. From panoramic hikes to visiting the home-turned-museum of Napoleon Bonaparte — whether crafted by nature or during the baroque period, art is everywhere.

Packed with diverse museums, world-class restaurants, outdoor activities, and vibrant nightlife, Akureyri is one of Iceland's largest cities. Loved by the locals and a must-visit for travelers, its population of under 20,000 people makes it the biggest indicator that size doesn't really matter.

Golden Age canals lined with quirky brick buildings act as a storybook backdrop for this delightful Dutch destination. Packed with museums, vintage shops, and phenomenal restaurants and bars — it’s a stylish, laid-back cultural hub where rich historic charm meets youthful, European energy.

With a homeport only steps from Barcelona's diverse neighborhoods and the famed urban beach of La Barceloneta, Sailors will uncover hidden secrets from local market cooking classes to modern and historic art in this vibrant seaside, architecturally stunning European city.

As the gateway to the rocky Causeway Coastal Route, easily discover outdoor adventures like Sea Safaris, get lost in the Belfast Titanic, an interactive Titanic experience like no place else, tour certain sets from HBO’s Game of Thrones & indulge in a surprisingly stirring Belfast nightlife.

A cute little town on Norway's west coast, Bergen is filled with wooden houses, colorful street art, cool clubs, and hip bars. The music scene is surreal, with everyone playing in different bands across genres, one of the country's oldest record stores and probably the country's only record bar.

Indulge in the delectable food scene at The Plaza Nueva, wander the seven remarkable streets of Bilbao’s old town, peruse the eclectic shops of El Mercado la Ribera and visit the iconic Bilbao Guggenheim museum in this northern Spanish city.

Beautiful beaches with crystalline waters. Chalk-white houses with bright-blue trim. Bodrum boasts Aegean character from its narrow streets with ancient ruins to its glitzy marina, flower-filled cafes, and world-class cuisine.

One of the oldest cities in Europe, this gorgeous Spanish city is drenched in sailing history and rich Andalusian culture. With its close proximity to Seville and dotted with vivid green water and bright white buildings, Cádiz moves to a thrilling beat — where the sound of flamenco hangs in the air.

Cagliari, Sardinia

Among the most pristine beaches to be found in Europe, Cagliari is well known for its Hilltop Castello, a medieval walled quarter situated high over the rest of the town. Sailors can discover shipwrecks off the coast or stop by a local shepherd’s home for a farm-to-table meal in the countryside.

Beyond the glamour of the film festivals and celebrities that give Cannes its much-deserved allure, lies a picturesque place to bask on brilliant beaches, sip locally-made wines, and breathe in the captivating nightlife of the Côte d'Azur.

Catania, Sicily

Hugely influential in the Renaissance era, mornings can be spent exploring the awe-inspiring architecture, while the youthful energy of the local shops and bars offer a vibrant afternoon. And with Mount Etna looming nearby, hiking the stratovolcano provides an earthy contrast to the bustling city.

Chania, Crete

As the largest of the Greek Isles, Crete makes you feel like time stands still. It’s a place where remnants of Venetian and Turkish architecture stand next to old townhouses transformed into hip restaurants, and glassy waters and swirls of pastel-pink sands make for beaches fit for postcards.

Civitavecchia (Rome)

With a home port only steps from Civitavecchia's diverse neighborhoods, Sailors will uncover hidden secrets from local market cooking classes to modern and historic art in this vibrant seaside, architecturally stunning European city.

Famous for its emerald-capped mountains and 125 miles of coastline, “The Evergreen Greek Island” of Corfu refers to more than just its stunning colors. Filled with both awe-inspiring historic monuments and cafe-lined streets, days can be spent at beach clubs or off-roading on the jewel-toned slopes.

Visit Grafton Street, the heart of Dublin, for unparalleled shopping and street entertainment, head over to Temple Bar, arguably the most famous bar in Ireland, walk the book-ladened walls of Trinity College or take a tour of the Guiness Factory to feel like you’ve won Willy Wonka’s golden ticket.

Along the coastline of this Croatian city, Dubrovnik exudes historical seaside romance with a splash of animated youthful energy. See the city through its famed architecture, immerse yourself in the nightlife (2am departure), or take a cable car up to Mount Srd for surreal views of the Adriatic Sea.

Tucked between the mountains and the Madeira coastline, Funchal is known as, "God's Floating Garden". From its center, filled with bars, cafes, and galleries, to the flora-covered coasts and dramatic cliffs that line the emerald-blue sea — this Portuguese city (and its wine) beg to be experienced.

This British territory on the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula may be small, but packs a strong global punch. Inspect the intricate caves of it towering limestone mass, the Rock , view the wonder via helicopter or stay land-bound for cafes, shopping and people-watching in town.

From the stretches of shimmering white beaches and golden sand dunes to the buzzing capital of Las Palmas, this subtropical island is full of both endless natural wonders and trendy European flair. Days can be spent hiking, scuba diving, or exploring the city’s center for fresh seafood and martinis.

Greenock (Glasgow)

A classic Scottish port town, Greenock is a beautiful place with a lot of history.  Spend time in the uber-green Scottish countryside of Lyle Hill or visit a historic cathedral before making your way the 40-minute commute to Glasgow.

Arrive at golden hour for a catamaran sunset sail before jetting to one of Ibiza's famed night clubs. For those more into delicious than dancing, try an olive oil or local winery eco-tour, carve out a secluded spa day complete with a mind-balancing yoga class, or just let the old city guide you.

Set on an arching peninsula, Ísafjörður is a charming patchwork of 18th-century timber and tin-clad buildings, towering peaks and dark fjord waters. From hitting the town and hiking hills to fine dining and Swamp Soccer, you’ll fall in love with the land of fire and ice before the day is over.

Often regarded as one of the most exciting cities in the world, Istanbul is more than a place, but an experience. See architectural wonders, peruse countless vendors, appreciate the ladened museums, and indulge in the eclectic fare here in the aptly nicknamed “city of the world’s desire.”

Kusadasi (Ephesus)

With crystal clear waters, sprawling beaches, and proximity to historically rich sites like Ephesus, Temple of Artemis, House of Virgin Mary and many more, Kusadasi is unlike any other city on the sea — and with an ideal climate, there’s (almost) no bad days to experience it.

Founded nearly 1,000 years ago, Kirkwall has gone from a Viking village to a thriving town whose modern influences have always kept the Viking spirit alive and well. With an award-winning town center, you’ll find plenty of mouth-watering places to eat and drink and tons of quaint shops.

Nestled into Montenegro’s Adriatic coast, Kotor is a breathtaking gem of the Balkans. A medieval maze where museums and churches weave in and out of cafe-strewn squares and Venetial palaces — the intricacies of the city are only matched by the stunning scenic terrain in the backdrop.

Equal parts beachy hotspot and cultural hub, this historic city located on the Galician Coast is famous for its freshly-caught seafood, buzzing nightlife, and the oldest working lighthouse in the world.

Halfway between Genoa and Pisa is La Spezia — the perfect hub for you to discover the countryside of Liguria and Tuscany. With Cinque Terre being on most travelers’ bucket lists, a quick train ride will get you to the five towns overland, or you can hitch a ride (book a Shore Thing) by sea.

Le Verdon (Bordeaux)

A port city that opens up to one of the most famous places on Earth, La Verdon is a stunning entryway to arguably the most iconic wine country in the world – Bordeaux.

The only town on the archipelago of Shetland, Lerwick is a beacon of nature. Visit one of Shetland’s amazing beaches, kayak, explore the labyrinth of sea caves and witness a broad spectrum of wildlife,  from Orca whales to Shetland ponies.

Known as the city that glows, the Portugese capital sits atop seven hills that form a natural amphitheater, reflecting light all around. Beyond the cosmic gleam, Lisbon is filled with dreamy, seaside romance — from the white-sand beaches to wine-tasting along the cobbled streets downtown.

Livorno (Florence/Pisa)

A picturesque port city featuring an impressive canal network, Livorno is the gateway to one of the most magical regions in all of Italy – Tuscany. Spend your time here exploring Pisa and its world famous leaning tower on your way to Tuscany’s renowned capital, Florence.

Uncover centuries of history in one of the oldest cities in Europe and among the oldest continuously inhabited in the world. Sailors can venture off to visit Alhambra, a beautiful old-world palace, or just spend the day reveling in the small town charm.

With a backdrop of white-marked mountains covered in what appears to be snow, Marina di Carrara is actually blanketed with some of the world's purest marble – a geographically rare site. On the border of Tuscany and Liguria, get access to Lucca, Pisa, Portofino and the breathtaking Cinque Terre.

One look at this southern port town and it’s clear why Van Gogh was inspired to paint here. Go from France’s second-largest city, to scenic and historical countryside in minutes. Medieval villages feel frozen in time as do the Starry Nights (actually frozen in Van Gogh’s painting of that name).

Mykonos may be famous for its beach club parties and electric nightlife, but the Greek Isle has a notably quiet side, too. With overnight stays, you can explore the charm of the cafe-lined waterfront promenades, or tour the vineyards tucked charmingly into the gorgeous hillsides of the island.

A name synonymous with Italian culture and cuisine is undoubtedly Naples. Known for a wide range of things — from the ancient ruins of Pompeii, the Bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvius and of course the home of the Napolitano pizza.

Palermo, Sicily

Explore the various Piazzas, peruse the various shops and outdoor markets that fully envelop what a melting pot Palermo is, tour the iconic Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele and, indulge in (arguably) the world’s best pizza – or go on a tour of all the places from HBO’s White Lotus.

This capital city of the island of Mallorca is the perfect dose of countryside serenity you might expect from a secluded Balearic island. Bike through picturesque villages, enjoy art in Valldemossa or stop off at a family-owned winery with a history so rich, you can taste it with each sip.

Few cities are as colorful as Athens — from the street art scene to the bright blue skies and sand-fringed shores. Take in breathtaking views from the Mikrolimano Marina, immerse yourself in ancient Greek history at the Parthenon, and explore the Acropolis; which remains the heart of the city.

Set sail from Portsmouth, United Kingdom on Scarlet Lady's Long Weekender or Summer WeekDaze itineraries.

Featuring otherworldly, mostly untouched landscapes, an eccentric food and drink scene, endless opportunities for outdoor adventure, blue lagoons, volcanoes, glaciers, lava fields and a thriving nightlife, Reykjavik will quickly become one of your favorite places in the world.

A hot spot for writers and artists, Rhodes is where the Byzantine Empire meets modern cultural ingenuity. Whether wandering the cobbled streets of Old Town for delicious Greek bites, exploring the perched-on-a-hill village of Lindos, or hitting up famed Faliraki Beach — this island truly has it all.

Arguably the most striking of the islands, Tenerife somehow boasts remote mountain-ridge villages, charming ancient towns, and a bustling cosmopolitan city. Cool off in the natural salt-water pools, discover the volcanic sand beaches, or head to a seaside restaurant for a glass of homemade sangria.

As the Greek Goddess of the Cyclades Islands, Santorini is known for breathtaking panoramas, fiery orange and blue sunsets, and the famed red and black beaches. Take in views from the blue and white dotted hills of Oia, or enjoy locally-made wine while sailing along the waters of the Caldera coast.

Settled between lush mountains and the sparkling sea, Split is Croatia's second-largest city and one of the Adriatic's most energetic ports. Packed with Roman ruins, medieval churches, stylish shops, and hip bars, Split offers mesmerizing views and intoxicating experiences you won't want to resist.

Once a sheltered harbor dedicated to fishing and farming, Stornoway has expanded to the tourists who have been flocking to the area in recent years. Visit the beautiful Lews Castle, go on a guided swimming or boat tour where outdoor adventure meets wildlife, or have a pint at one of the many cafes.

A gateway to charming towns in Provence, access both coastline and countryside in France’s second largest naval port. Originally a fishermen’s village, its coveted Mourillon quarter still boasts original architecture with a daily market, chic little boutiques and seaside restaurants. Bon appetit!

Valencia truly encompasses everything that the Mediterranean is about. Take a tour through the incredible old town tasting wine and indulging in as many tapas as you can, tour the litany of impressive architectural gems that call this eclectic city home or go on an outdoor adventure.

A fortress city known for its cathedrals, sprawling gardens and museums it feels like you’re entering a different time when you step foot here – plus there’s no shortage of mystical blue lagoons and natural swimming pools to take a dip or explore.

Melding classic European flair with the charm of a seaside fishing town, soak in historic Old Town, explore the cafes and Baroque guild houses of Butchers' Street, or take a scenic sail in Ghent.

A CRUISE liner has launched "month long" all -inclusive trips around Europe and it costs less than £140pp a night.

The adults only cruise will dock at hotspots such as Ibiza , Cannes, Marseille, Palma de Mallorca and Valencia.

Remote workers can cool off in the pool after a shift

Virgin Voyages Scarlet Summer Season Pass is focused toward remote workers who want to swap the study for the open seas.

Virgin claims to have the fastest at-sea internet connection in the industry, so remote workers can simply log into the virtual office whenever they want.

The ship is home to 20 restaurants, including a Korean BBQ and a vegetarian eatery.

The cabins feature a sea-view balcony kitted out with hammocks, rainfall shower and electric blinds.

The fee of £8,000 for two people also includes group fitness classes, such as yoga, spin and HIIT.

And there is a daily tea/coffee credit, wash and fold laundry service, access to the ship’s “members only” sundeck, gratuities, and a complimentary bottle of fizz on arrival.

Nirmal Saverimuttu, CEO of Virgin Voyages, said: “No longer does working from home mean being tied to a desk or home office and eating leftovers for lunch.

"With our latest Wi-Fi upgrades, Virgin Voyages can now offer our sailors the chance to see the world while working from a daybed at the Dock and sampling Mediterranean mezzes, then hopping off the ship in between calls to make the most of our incredible ports of call.”

Italian cruise line Costa Cruises wants travelers to live la dolce vita with a spring sale that has sailings to the Mediterranean and northern Europe starting at less than $300.

The sale, which must be booked by April 11, has cruises starting at just $299 per person for double occupancy and is valid on select trips from May to November traveling to Italy, France, Spain, Morocco, and beyond, the cruise line shared with Travel + Leisure . To book, travelers must look for the “Costa’s Spring Sale” icon on the company’s website .

“For travelers ready to plan their next European adventure, our ‘Spring Sale’ offers reduced fares to some of our most desired destinations in the Mediterranean and northern Europe ,” Erik Jamarillo, the head of sales for Costa Cruises North America, said in a statement shared with T+L. “Costa is looking forward to more incredible adventures in these two regions, and we’re inviting travelers to join us to experience Italian-style cruising at an exceptional value.”

Travel on a weeklong cruise from Civitavecchia, just outside Rome, to Marseille, France, Palma de Mallorca, Spain, and more. Or visit Istanbul, Mykonos, and Ibiza on a roundtrip cruise from Athens.

In May, Costa will sail nine to 23-day cruises in northern Europe complete with stops in Greenland, Iceland, Norway, and Scotland. And in July, the company will add week-long cruises to Denmark, Germany, and the Norwegian fjords.

The sale also includes voyages that feature the company’s new “Sea Destinations,” which incorporates the ports the ship visits into onboard programming, like offering a “typical Caprese breakfast” in front of the Faraglioni rocks of Capri before disembarking in Naples, or hosting “a hippy chic party” after visiting Ibiza .

Costa Cruises, which is part of the Carnival Corporation & plc, operates nine ships and sails around the world from the Mediterranean and northern Europe to the Caribbean, South America, and more.
