Why govt funds used for Kempegowds statue, asks Karnataka Congress President
President of Karnataka Congress D K Shivakumar questioned why government funds were used to install a 108-feet statue of Bengaluru founder Nadaprabhu Kempegowda at the international airport.
"Doing it (installing the statue) using government funds is a big crime. We (the Karnataka govt) have given the land and also funds for the Bengaluru International Airport Limited. Out of 4,200-acre land, 2,000 acre was given at only ₹ 6-lakh per acre. Along with money, they have shared. It (BIAL) should have used its money, why to use government money," Shivakumar said.
The state's Congress President said, "Airport should have done it, is it not earning? Hasn't their property price increased, we have given over 2,000 acre for commercial exploitation. Why did you need government money? Why is the Chief Secretary quiet? There was no need to use government money."

Chandrayaan-3: PM Modi to visit Bengaluru on August 26 to congratulate ISRO team
The karnataka bjp is planning a grand welcome for the prime minister by organising a mega road show in the city on his arrival..
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Bengaluru on August 26, to greet the ISRO scientists and officials for the successful landing of Candrayaan-3's lander and deployment of rover on moon's surface.
The Karnataka BJP is planning a grand welcome for the Prime Minister by organising a mega road show in the city on his arrival, senior BJP leader and former Minister R Ashoka said on Thursday.
"PM Narendra Modi is coming on August 26. We will be receiving him in big numbers with more than 6,000 people at HAL airport. There, he might address the people of Bengaluru. Our (BJP) national leader Santosh ji (General Sec B L Santosh) just spoke to me to organise a mega roadshow in Peenya, I have spoken to Dasarahalli MLA Muniraju on this," he said.
Speaking to reporters here, Ashoka said the Prime Minister has given the opportunity to the people of Bengaluru to share this joy with him. "We the people of Bengaluru will give Modi a grand welcome, because ISRO means Benagluru and Bengaluru means ISRO. He is coming here to congratulate ISRO scientists," he added.
Though the details of PM's visit have not been shared, he is likely to visit the Missions Operations Complex at Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) here to congratulate the scientists and officials of the space agency.
PM Modi on Wednesday congratulated ISRO Chairman S Somanath on the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission and said he would soon visit them in Bengaluru to greet the entire team in person. He had a phone conversation with Somanath from Johannesburg, where he is attending the BRICS summit.
Before the phone conversation, he had virtually witnessed the landing and addressed ISRO scientists from Johannesburg.
Noting that the plan was to organise a roadshow of about 1 km near Peenya, Ashoka said at the airport too there will be a gathering of people to welcome the PM. A meeting has been convened at the party office to discuss and finalise things, he added.
India on Wednesday scripted history as ISRO's ambitious third Moon mission Chandrayaan-3's Lander Module (LM) touched down on the lunar surface, making it only the fourth country to accomplish the feat, and first to reach the uncharted south pole of Earth's only natural satellite.
The LM comprising the lander (Vikram) and the rover (Pragyan), made the soft landing near the south polar region of the Moon last evening. Earlier today, ISRO announced that the rover rolled down from the lander, stating "India took a walk on the moon."

PM Narendra Modi’s Bengaluru visit: Avoid these roads today
Elaborate security arrangements
E-way stretch closed for 5 hours, routes to follow, visual stories.
Quick makeover: Modi’s visit a boon for Bengaluru
BENGALURU: In just four days, Kommaghatta and its surroundings have undergone a sea change: craters are filled, roads are tarred, drains covered, pavements are neat, and white lines mark roads. All in anticipation of PM Narendra Modi’s visit on June 20, where he is expected to address a gathering of 60,000 people.
That is not all -- helipads are also being set up in Kommaghatta for the VVIP. Yeshwantpur MLA and Minister for Cooperation ST Somasekhar said that PM Modi is due to arrive at Kommaghatta at 12.45 pm on June 20. MLAs of 28 assembly segments of Bengaluru will be invited to join the gathering. “Since this is the monsoon season, German tents are being erected for the event. Close to the dais, three helipads are built and all arrangements will be made. SPG and PMO authorities will check and take a call,” Somasekhar told TNIE.
He said as VVIPs are arriving, it is important to ensure there are no infrastructure flaws along the route. As the area was dug up for water and sewage connections, roads were in bad condition, but now everything is being fixed.
“Workers are engaged in this for the past four days and were working 24x7. PM will first arrive at Jakkur Aerodrome and reach IISc by road. His next stop is Kommaghatta, and he will leave from here by 1.45pm to Ambedkar School of Economics. He will then leave to Mysuru at 3.30pm and reach by 4 pm, as he has to address beneficiaries of central government schemes at 4.30pm,” the minister said. He said 120 beneficiaries will be chosen, and among them, only 30 members may get a chance to interact with the PM.
PARKING ARRANGEMENT Kengeri Traffic and Law and Order police say that as this is a VVIP meeting, they have been working for the past week, levelling areas near Shankar Nag Circle. Parking for 700 buses, 600 cars and 2,500 two-wheelers has been taken care of, and 30 minutes before the arrival of PM, roads in the surrounding areas will be shut.
School holiday Schools are likely to remain shut during the PM’s visit to Kengeri and its surroundings. While SBS Public School and others have announced a holiday, DDPI South H Bylanjinappa said there is protocol during VVIP visit. No schoolchildren should be used for functions, and there will be more clarity on holiday in a day or two.
