With Plymouth's impending death, the Grand Voyager turns into a Chrysler this year, but it is otherwise unchanged. Four new colors and a new Value-Plus option package that includes a V6 and power features are new this year.

A twin to the basic Dodge Caravan, the Voyager is for those who would rather have the minivan's nose adorned by Chrysler's emblem rather than Dodge's Ram.

Cost to Drive Cost to drive estimates for the 2000 Chrysler Grand Voyager SE 4dr Minivan and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $3.42 per gallon for regular unleaded in North Dakota.

Vehicle overview.

Chrysler used to be the minivan champion. They pioneered the concept of a seven-passenger box-on-wheels way back in 1984, and have effectively dominated this market until last year, when competition from Ford and Honda finally caught up and surpassed them in terms of features, power and crashworthiness. Items like power-sliding doors, disappearing third seats and navigation systems have yet to appear on a Chrysler-badged minivan, though you can expect to see some of these features and more when the redesigned vans debut in 2001.

Rumors of Plymouth's demise have proven accurate and this once proud Chrysler division is no more. But this doesn't mean the Grand Voyager is going anywhere. Chrysler needs a value leader in the minivan class and its Town and Country is too upscale. So the spirit of Plymouth lives on in the low-priced Voyager line.

Chrysler officially offers the long-wheelbase Grand Voyager in two levels of trim: the base model and the step-up SE. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is standard on base models, but these sizable vans benefit from a little extra oomph when an optional V6 is selected. Acceleration with the 3.3-liter, 158-horsepower engine is pretty strong from startup, but sometimes unimpressive when merging onto an expressway. Automatic transmission shifts are neat and smooth. Engine and tire sounds are virtually absent.

Though tautly suspended, the ride is seldom harsh or jarring, unless you get onto truly rough surfaces. Handling is exceptional for a minivan. You might even call it fun. Combined with light steering wheel response and great visibility, the Grand Voyager is easy to handle in urban traffic and suburban shopping centers.

So, how does Chrysler improve on this package for 2000? By keeping the price low and the value high. Four new colors debut, and a new T-Plus package is available. Vans equipped with T-Plus include a V6 engine, power windows, locks and mirrors, cruise control, a tilt steering wheel, and a cloth interior. And, despite the Grand Voyager's "value-oriented" spirit, Chrysler offers a vast array of option packages to personalize the vans. The same can't be said of the competition from Japan or America.

Newly revised minivans from Honda, Ford, Mazda and GM are the strongest challengers, but the Grand Voyager holds its own when it comes to value. Where else can you get a commodious and decently equipped minivan for $20 grand?

We recently discussed the changes to the Chrysler Voyager for the 2022 model year . Chrysler re-introduced the Voyager nameplate to the American market as the value-based minivan option, making the popular Pacifica a more upscale offering. Although the Voyager will be offered a fleet-only option for the 2022 model year, its Canadian counterpart will have a different story for the new model year.

The Chrysler Grand Caravan marks the second year that the nameplate will be heralded under the Chrysler banner in Canada. The well-equipped Chrysler Grand Caravan holds its own distinct position in the award-winning Chrysler minivan lineup, offering even more value for those who seek the quintessential family vehicle. For the 2022 model year, the Grand Caravan is about to get even better with more standard features than ever before.

So what exactly is new for the 2022 model year?

Trims –

The 2022 Chrysler Grand Caravan drops the SE offering for the new model year, leaving only the SXT trim.

Infotainment – 

The 2022 Chrysler Grand Caravan will feature the all-new Uconnect 5 software on its standard 7-inch infotainment touchscreen. The new Uconnect 5 software is more personalized and easier to use, delivering enhanced processing power, resolution, and system features for 2022. Launched with a five-star overall safety rating from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) , Grand Caravan also comes standard with a long list of safety features, including 7 airbags, daytime running lights, electronic stability control, Brake Assist, Child Seat Anchor System (LATCH), ParkView rear backup camera and more.

Colors –

For the interior color choices, there is only one choice available – the color black.

Wonder how it will affect production vs demand for 2022

I’m reminded what a bunch of dingalings we’ve had dreaming up the marketing at Daimler/Fiat/stale antis for decades now. Who in their right mind cancels a model that has sold millions and remained a top seller until the day it was dropped, then renames it by another brand and expects anyone to follow their madness? Funny, I don’t see any Buick Malibu’s or Lincoln Taurus’s or Lexus Camry’s floating around. As inept as GM and Ford may be , they haven’t made that inexplicable move yet. But those in charge of Dodge and Chrysler have. And we wonder why we are seeing the waning days of our long cherished Mopar brands.

Well said BWS, this renaming is a joke. Want to pull a name out of the hat from the 50’s or 60’s, maybe, but nothing to recent. First the Pacifica name on the mini van? Wrong! Should have saved it for a new Chrysler SUV, and left it Town and County. Voyager on a Chrysler? Ugh! Now Grand Caravan on a Chrysler. Double ugh!! What’s next, a Dodge Cuda, oh wait some want that!! Sorry Cuda is a Plymouth not a Dodge!

Answer: Datsun The Dodge and Plymouth Neon were decided in a pre-Daimler Auburn Hills. Daimler introduced us to the Chrysler Voyager before the cappuccino machines were installed in that same Auburn Hills facility. Remember the Prowler? When was it re-branded?

The Chrysler GC is a Canadian marker vehicle. The history of the models offered there by Ma Mopar is very interesting. This wasn't the first time for a half Plymouth/ half Dodge creation. Plymouth's death was as much a fault of pre-Daimler mismanagement as it was Daimler's. That is what led to the cheapening of the Town & Country name.

The Dodge Grand Caravan sales slide started with the introduction of the RT generation before FCA.

Right. Exactly. You have reinforced the point I made and I appreciate it. As I said, this has gone on for decades. As you point out , it started with Eaton . There is no surprise.

What's New for 2020?

The Voyager joins Chrysler's lineup for 2020, but we hesitate to call it "new." This seven-passenger minivan draws its name from a long-dead Plymouth model and everything else from the Pacifica.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2020 Chrysler Voyager starts at $28,480 and goes up to $31,290 depending on the trim and options.

Unless you're prepared to go with the barest-boned minivan on the market, we recommend you look at the LX. While neither trim provides much in the way of amenities, the LX at least offers a more compliant suspension tune than the L as well as automatic headlamps, aluminum wheels (instead of steel), three-zone manual climate control, and superior exterior lighting. Plus, if you want options such as remote start, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, satellite radio, and/or a built-in DVD player to entertain the kiddos, the LX is the only way to go.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Mechanically, the Voyager is identical to the Pacifica, using the same 287-hp 3.6-liter V-6 engine and nine-speed automatic transmission to drive the front wheels. In our testing, the Pacifica managed a 7.3-second sprint to 60 mph. Given this van forgoes some of the features that weigh down its brother, the Voyager likely weighs less than the Pacifica and thus has the potential to beat that time. Don't hold your breath for a hybrid. Chrysler will reserve that powertrain for the pricier minivan in its lineup.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

We haven't had the opportunity to test the Voyager on our 200-mile highway fuel-economy loop, but for reference, the last nonhybrid Pacifica we tested achieved 31 mpg. The Chrysler vans both earn EPA estimates of 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The Voyager's 22 mpg combined score betters those of the Kia Sedona and Toyota Sienna and matches that of the Honda Odyssey , all chief competitors.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

As with the exterior styling, powertrain, and chassis, the Voyager's interior mimics that of the Pacifica, albeit with fewer creature comforts. You won't find leather seats, in-dash navigation, automatic climate control, or power-sliding side doors here. What's more, the Voyager provides Stow 'n Go capability only for the rear bench seats. If you want the second row to fold into the floor, you'll need to shell out at least $35,540 for the base Pacifica. You can, however, tuck away valuables in the underfloor cubbies in front of the captain's chairs if you opt for the LX trim. Behind the third row, the Voyager boasts the same 32 cubic feet of cargo volume as the Pacifica. So while we have yet to put this van through our practical space tests, we feel safe saying that the Voyager will be able accommodate what its brother could (i.e., 12 carry-on suitcases with the rear seats up).

Infotainment and Connectivity

Chrysler provides a 3.5-inch digital display in the gauge cluster, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the center stack, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and a six-speaker audio system with active noise cancellation. Either trim level provides Bluetooth streaming and integrated voice control, but only the Voyager LX allows for SiriusXM radio. Need to entertain the little ones? A rear-seat overhead DVD player can be had on the LX for $995.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Overall safety rating (nhtsa).

The Voyager achieved a five-star rating —the highest possible—from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in each of its crash-test measures. Chrysler attributes the van's crashworthiness, at least in part, to the abundance of high-strength steel in the Voyager's body structure. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has yet to test the Voyager, but the Pacifica performed well in most areas . Looking for driver-assistance features ? You won't find many in the Voyager and nothing of the like is offered as standard. Key safety features include:

• Available rear parking sensors with rear automated emergency braking
• Available blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Chrysler's warranty coverage is fairly typical for the class. The Sienna offers more value here in the form of a two-year/25,000-mile complimentary scheduled maintenance plan.

• Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
• Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
• No complimentary scheduled maintenance

Chrysler recalls another 38,000 vehicles over airbag issues: NHTSA

Chrysler is recalling 38,164 vehicles for airbags failing to deploy during a crash, according to a release from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association.

The steering column control module may not be welded properly, which can prevent the driver's airbag from deploying.

Dealers will inspect and replace the steering column control module, as necessary free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 3. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's numbers for this recall are 14B, 33B, 34B, 35B, 36B.

Hyundai is recalling 98,878 vehicles because the charging unit may become damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery, which can result in a loss of drive power.

Dealers will inspect and replace the ICCU and its fuse, as necessary. In addition, dealers will update the ICCU software. All repairs will be performed free of charge. New modification of Russian VVER-440 fuel loaded at Paks NPP in Hungary

DECEMBER 14, 2020 — After the recent refueling at power unit 3 of the Hungarian Paks NPP, its VVER-440 reactor has been loaded with a batch of fresh fuel including 18 fuel bundles of the new modification. The new fuel will be introduced at all four operating power units of the Paks NPP, and the amount of new-modification bundles in each refueling will be increased gradually.

Development of the new VVER-440 fuel modification was completed in 2020 under the contract between TVEL JSC and MVM Paks NPP Ltd. Its introduction would optimize the hydro-uranium ratio in the reactor core, enabling to increase the efficiency of fuel usage and advance the economic performance of the power plant operation. All VVER-440 fuel modifications are manufactured at the Elemash Machine-Building Plant, a facility of TVEL Fuel Company in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

“Introduction of a new fuel is an option to improve technical and economic performance of a nuclear power plant without substantial investment. We are actively engaged in development of new models and modifications of VVER-440 fuel for power plants in Europe. The projects of the new fuels for Loviisa NPP in Finland, Dukovany NPP in the Czech Republic, Mochovce and Bohunice NPPs in Slovakia, are currently at various stages of implementation. Despite the same reactor model, these projects are quite different technically and conceptually, since we take into account the individual needs and requirements of our customers,” commented Natalia Nikipelova, President of TVEL JSC.

The project of development and validation of the new fuel has been accomplished with participation of a number of Russian nuclear industry enterprises, such as OKB Gidropress (a part of Rosatom machine-building division Atomenergomash), Bochvar Institute (material science research facility of TVEL Fuel Company), Elemash Machine-building plant and Kurchatov Institute national research center. At the site of OKB Gidropress research and experiment facility, the new fuel passed a range of hydraulic, longevity and vibration tests.

Paks NPP is the only functioning nuclear power plant in Hungary with total installed capacity 2000 MWe. It operates four similar units powered by VVER-440 reactors and commissioned one by one in 1982-1987. Currently, Paks NPP is the only VVER-440 plant in the world operating in extended 15-monthes fuel cycle. The power plant produces about 15 bln kWh annually, about a half of electric power generation in Hungary. In 2018, the project of increasing the duration of Paks NPP fuel cycle won the European competition Quality Innovation Award in the nomination “Innovations of large enterprises”. Russian engineers from TVEL JSC, Kurchatov Institute, OKB Gidropress, Bochvar Institute and Elemash Machine-building plant provided assistance to the Hungarian colleagues in accomplishment of the project.

Kamaz FTL hauler registers NatCar brand

MOSCOW. Sept 4 (Interfax) - National Carrier JSC, the full truckload freight trucking company headed by former Globaltruck CEO Ilya Sattarov that Russian truck maker Kamaz founded this summer, applied to register the brand NatCar at the end of August, the registry of federal intellectual property service Rospatent showed.

The NatCar brand is also mentioned in the recruitment ads of National Carrier, which is actively looking for E-class drivers. It is offering working with this year's model Kamaz diesel trucks from the flagship K5 line and new dry goods (curtainsider) and refrigerated trailers.

National Carrier was founded on July 7 in Moscow with charter capital of 1 billion rubles, the Unified State Register of Legal Entities showed. The company registered two branches in early August, in Yekaterinburg and Elektrostal, Moscow Region. The company specializes in truck logistics and associated activities, including digitization processes.

A spokesman for National Carrier told Interfax earlier that the company plans to provide FTL trucking services using its own fleet, "as well as the resources of hired truckers." The company's fleet will initially consist of 400 semi-trailer trucks with a 50/50 ratio of curtainside to refrigerated trailers, and it plans to primarily operate on domestic routes, he said.

The company has preliminary agreements with major customers among marketplaces and retailers in the FMCG and DIY segments, the spokesman said. Strong demand for trucking services is expected toward the end of the year, so there is interest from customers, he said.

Kamaz marketing director Ashot Arutyunyan announced at the International Moscow Automotive Forum at the end of August that the truck maker was the principal investor in National Carrier. He did not comment on the new company's shareholder structure, but said it is a Kamaz startup.
