Easy and friendly booking service, flight arrived early and met by Friendship rep at airport, then taxi to Hotel. The representative was very helpful and organized trips out and entertainment. Only downside was the Hotel. poor quality food, and often lukewarm. Bathroom not cleaned thoroughly with mould showing between bath and shower screen.

Relaxing and enjoyable week in the winter sun…

Relaxing and enjoyable week in the sun and light of the Costa del Sol in February is much needed after a long dark UK winter with its constant winds and frequent storms and rain. The hotel was OK and close to the sea, and bus routes. However the hotel food was disappointing and was usually warmish rather than hot. Jayne the host was helpful, positive and attentive. Except for the problem of the food it was a good value break.

My trip to Kenya Safari and beach was…

My trip to Kenya Safari and beach was amazing. Loved every minute and everything was great. Traveling in the jeeps was long. But this is Africa and the transport system not like UK. Also heavy traffic on the ferrys Nort a fault of Friendship travel. The Papillion Hotel was of good standard and staff were wonderful. The company was great.

Reply from Friendship Travel Singles Holidays

Thank you Kathy for the review. Kenya is an amazing country to visit. Helen and Karen from our office have been on the holiday and its still in their top 10 of favouriye trips. Regards Colum

A complete Shambles

I have 2 complaints in with them at the moment but don't hold my breath for any resolution. I have just returned from Kenya safari, it was sold to me as a very small exclusive trip of a lifetime, firstly after telling me there was only 2 spaces left (in my opinion to pressure me to book there and then) they added another jeep so 6 more people without informing us at all, this stretched the holiday so far we were on different flights and it was not the casual relaxing experience it would have been with the 7 people as promised. Following on from this all of the itinerary was out, and I mean hours out, getting to the hotel too over 3 hours not the 1.5 approx stated meaning we missed lunch and arrived very dehydrated after having no water or Aircon on the journey. for the 3 days safari we spent 10 hours in the car the first day completely missing one of the nature walks, the next 2 days we were in the car between lodges for at least 6 hours a day. We spent a total of 4 hours of the 3 days actually on safari dives or a walk. I'm not going to write about the hotels or safari company here as this is a review of friendship travels service. The icing on the cake was they had given us all including the rep out there the incorrect flight times and reference on our itinerary, it turns out we were all on different flights and found this out my checking with the airline! Our flight was very late in the day and the last hotel we had to check out at 10am didn't have any air con areas at all in 33 heat! We had to sit as best we could in the shade for 4 hours to try and keep cool, we also had to pay for lunch on this day which wasn't stated. As the flight was later than we were told by friendship travel (16.45 on my itinerary) but then moved to 18.45 without friendship informing me and then Was delayed by an hour which is obviously the airline but meant we got to the final hotel at 10pm too late for dinner and have to be up for 5am to fly! It was the most disorganised tiring experience and the age demographic was quite a lot older than me (a good mix and everyone was lovely) but with a few health problems and I'm just so relieved no one got seriously ill. I'd definitely recommend this type of holiday as the people I met were lovely but I would not in anyway recommend traveling with friendship. I work in the retirement industry and I find the way they operate incredibly concerning.

Save yourself money and don’t pay a room upgrade supplement

I went to Lanzarote for Christmas and paid for a room upgrade. Having checked in I was surprised to find the room was located outside the hotel and access to It was via a pathway. Being a single female traveller this lack of security concerned me and so before going to the room returned to Reception and requested a room inside the hotel. I was told this was my allocated room which could not be changed. Reluctantly I went to the room and discovered the flush facility on toilet detached from the wall, and the balcony lock was broken. I hastily returned again to Reception. After a long time the Manager told me that no room change would be possible until an unspecified time the following day, but probably afternoon. I didn’t unpack, felt completely exhausted and phoned a friend, who on hearing I had no idea when a different room would be provided, advised I make the best of a bad situation as waiting around the hotel would mean I’d lose two days out of my 1 week’s vacation. At this point I was VERY relieved and consoled myself I was indeed there for just one week. The WC & lock were repaired but the room was very noisy and I always felt vulnerable and uncomfortable returning to it in the evening. The aspects which made the holiday bearable was my good fortune in meeting nice people and good weather without which I would have been miserable. I have just been told by Friendship Travel, the room I stayed in with broken WC, outside access, noise from pool etc.was in fact one of the hotels upgraded rooms so best they can do is ensure I wouldn’t be allocated it again!! Over the years I have stayed many times in the Lanzarote Princess, always in an upgraded room and never has it been like the one I spent my Christmas vacation in, memorable for the wrong reasons. I am writing this as I hope to save other travellers who entrust their holiday to Friendship Travel the unnnecessary expense of paying a supplement for a room upgrade.

Hi Christine We are very sorry that you were not given a Superior room in the main building as in previous years. The hotel has different sections and your room was in the second block. As you know we have looked into this since contacting us on your return, and have confirmed the hotel advised your room was a Superior room. We can understand the upset when things are not 100% so we’re pleased your WC and lock were fixed straight away. We can only apologise you felt unsafe walking to your room, however the hotel do have security and we have never had any problems in all the years we have worked with the hotel. With it being Christmas the hotel was at full capacity with guests constantly checking in and out daily, so rooms would need to be cleaned before being reallocated, this is why the hotel couldn’t give you a specific time for the following day to change rooms, and thus you chose to remain in the same room. You had full support from your host at the hotel who you have praised so thank you. We will endeavour to ensure you do not have the same happen should you return to the hotel once again. Please accept our apologies that we could not rectify this for you while on holiday. Regards Colum

Forever hotel

Lovely little family run hotel close to hisaronu. Family look after you and rep is always around to answer any questions. Plenty to do by way of excursions in the area, did the jeep safari which was an experience you won't forget. Take a coat, you will get wet, arm yourself with a water pistol to take your revenge on the other jeeps in the convoy. Boat trip is a not too be missed trip either, nothing beats having a lazy day sailing around the coast in your own private boat, stopping to swim in warm bays. Highlight was the lunch which was plentiful with different choices of food on offer. Drinks you have to pay for but are reasonably priced.

Some amazing feedback for the hotel team plus Friendship Travel. Thank you very much Trevor.

con merchants

Asked for ski holiday quote excluding flights as I was coming from Australia; I emailed I'd meet the group in Geneva, which the website specified as the destination ex-Gatwick for Tignes. Was provided this; tried to book and was then informed (after I've booked my flights) that they fly into Grenoble. No explanation. I ask for coverage of extra transfer - hear nothing for 3-days, then the holiday price has gone up by more than 50%, from GBS985 to GBS1445 - bunch of con artists.

Date of experience : 23 October 2018

Thanks for your review. I am sorry you had a bad experience with us. Due to the time difference between the UK and Australia we had time lapses in communicating with you , when you were arranging your own flights from Australia to Europe for this ski trip. When we spoke to your after the initial booking and looked to change to a different resort, the room we had were all sold and to buy in another room the hotel charged a higher price. I am sorry this happened. We would advise guests from outside the UK to never book international flights to the UK, until we have everything confirmed in writing from a hotel.

Forever Hotel

Just returned from my second stay at the Forever Hotel. As on my previous stay the owners and their family members could not do enough for you and the rooms, pool, gardens and food/drink are more than you would expect for a 3* hotel. Jean, the host, is invaluable with regard to her experience, support and professionalism. Looking forward to my return next year.

Absolutely brilliant

Absolutely brilliant holiday with Friendship travel in Cape Verde!!! Monica the rep was lovely, and nothing was too much trouble for her, including morning cups of coffee and a massage. The group ‘gelled’ very well, and there was a great deal of fun and laughter both at meal times and in the bar. Travelling as a lone female does have issues, but everything was fine and in place. I’ve recommended Friendship travel to all my single female friends, and I will certainly use them again!!!

Much appreciated Gill from all the Friendship Travel team

Super holiday!

An excellent week at the lovely H10 Ocean Dunas in Correlejo, Fuerteventura. My 3rd visit to an H10 in this area & my 2nd visit to this particular hotel - all with Friendship Travel. Superb location, good food, lovely rooms & very friendly & helpful staff - nothing is too much trouble. The Friendship hosts have always been excellent - Colin who was very helpful & organised when we went into lockdown just over 2 years ago in Fuerteventura & Anita on my recent holiday - very caring, helpful & fun! A great group each time helped of course. Would thoroughly recommend Friendship Travel holidays & definitely the H10 Hotel Ocean Dunas in Fuerteventura!

Many thanks for your review and compliments, Diane. Colum and all the Team at Friendship Travel.

What makes a great holiday is the…

What makes a great holiday is the company you keep. When I book these type of holidays I always ask age profile and gender mix as I would prefer company of people similar to myself. Friendship refuse to reveal age profiles of other travellers on the trip. Had an awful holiday last year with OAP's who through no fault of their own have a different agenda. Get real guys as I cannot be alone with this bad experience. You have lost my custom including 3 holidays this year from me. To reply to Calum, I am not asking for exact ages or names - indicative profiling of those already booked only, which is not breaking any laws.

Date of experience : 11 October 2019

Hi JDK, I am sorry but Friendship Travel do not keep the ages of guests who travel with us, so we have no way of telling you the ages of people booked. In our 22 years of business we have never been able to give clients the ages of guests booked on a departure. I am not sure other competitors are able to give the exact ages of all clients booked either with GDPR regulations. Regards Colum - FT MD.

Forever Friendship

Second visit to Forever Hotel in Turkey. Always a pleasure to stay here. A lovely family welcome and enthusiastic Friendship Travel REP help you with everything you need.

Date of experience : 05 June 2023

A huge thank you for your kind words from everyone at Friendship Travel.

IT'S NONE OF YOUR FU*KING BUSINESS !

Went to Forever Hotel Olu Deniz. Turkey Pub crawl first night at hotel.. A woman danced with one of our party and her partner was fuming so I quietly informed Jean the rep so she was aware of the worrying situation as she had a lot to drink and was dancing, She screamed 'KEEP YOUR FU*KING NOSE OUT OF IT' , 'IT'S NONE OF YOUR FU*KING BUSINESS !' right in my face - I left the bar. Returned 15 mins later to be abused again so left the group to try to find my way back. Naturally this really messed up the singles holiday . Colum (MD) gave platitudes but did not take it seriously. I'm sure Colum with come with a long explanation BUT when I told the hotel owner Oz , he laughed and said 'that's Jean for you' so the company have accepted this behaviour for a long time.

Friendship Travel & Cape Verde

I have recently returned from Cape Verde with Friendship Travel. I have to say they were excellent from booking through to the end of the holiday. I travelled alone from Birmingham airport & was met at the airport by a taxi driver with my name clearly written & taken directly to the hotel where I was met by the UK rep Monica. Whilst Cape Verde itself is quite underdeveloped, the hotel was fab & Monica ( such an enthusiastic & energetic lady, but not overwhelming) accompanied the group (approx 16 of us) on excursions & visits to the local town & a few local bars. Fab weather also helped make the holiday ! I’ve been travelling with FT for 6 years now as a single female & have always felt welcome & safe with this friendly company. Looking forward to another trip with them later in the year 😎😎

Memories Hotel

Memories Hotel, Lindos. Having just returned from 3 weeks holiday there, I think it speaks for itself that I cannot get enough of this hotel as this was the 8th time I have stayed there. Friendship Travel are a very professional firm who go the extra mile to ensure your holiday runs smoothly. The hotel itself is brilliant - from its rooms, location right on the beach, food and entertainment, but mostly because of its competent/enthusiastic staff who make the holiday memorable. Cannot wait to return later in the year. Muriel Gallagher.

Hotel Apollon Zante Friendship Travel

I had a similar experience to Deborah Weadock's review at the Hotel Apollon in Zante almost a year later. The hotel is marketed as House Party Hotel and I booked it as I thought it would be a good choice for my first holiday abroad as a single female traveller. However I was verbally abused by large drunken male guest in an unprovoked act of aggression. I complained to the company who closed down my complaint. I was not advised of the company's processes in relation to such inappropriate behaviour. I spent the second week of my holiday feeling very vulnerable and alone miles from home and trying to avoid the guest and any further confrontation from him. Ironic when I had chosen this type of holiday as a single woman to feel safe and in company.

This little hotel is a Gem

This little hotel is a Gem! It's immaculately clean, staffed by the friendliest of people and serves good home-cooked food. Nice pool area with plenty of sun loungers, and a great ambience. Friendship Travel have found the perfect spot for singles wanting to mingle! Can't fault it at all - been 3 times now and will probably go back. Rooms are functional with extremely comfortable beds - I had one of the top floor bedrooms with a private terrace facing the mountains - loved the walk-in shower! It really does deserve 5 stars - for a 3 star hotel it ticks all the boxes for me.

Thanks for your excellent review on the Forever Hotel in Turkey, always a favourite with FT guests.

I booked a holiday with this company…

I booked a holiday with this company going to Casa Rosa Villa, Olhao, Portugal, going on what the website in November said and also their brochure. On checking later for my holiday in June I found certain facts to be wrong. The “half board” was only 4 evening meals plus breakfast and the 7 minute walk to the “sea front view”, was a marina view! I cancelled the holiday and was only given 40% refund of the holiday price and less flight price. The agent in an email asked if I had checked the latest recently updated website, which was much too late in my case. In the brochure I received from this company “Winter 2022/Summer 2023”it clearly states half board. I can email a photo if anyone would like this. Also an agent from the company confirmed there is a marina view after the 7 minute walk. After making the booking in November 2022 certain facts have been changed on the website.

Date of experience : 22 April 2023

Hi Janice, further to your 1 star review I tried to call you and discuss the details but you have not returned my call. I am sorry you felt we provided a 1 star service and you needed to cancel. Normally 95% of our guests are happy with the service we provide and if you look on G oogle reviews or F eefo reviews we score 4.5 or higher out of 5 for most reviews. We are all human and do make mistakes from time to time and when we do we put our 'hands up' and try our best to put things right. In the case of your booking, you booked in November 2022 and clearly from your posting and comments to our team you researched the holiday in great detail. Casa Rosa Hotel ( which gets 4 1/2 reviews and up from all clients) has always been located a short walk from the sea front - harbour area. It also has always provided 4 dinners per week in the package, plus excursions plus some lunches. Casa Rosa has always been a short walk from the sea - the harbour sea area - the marina sea area - the port sea area. I am not sure what your point is here, perhaps you might return my call so we can try and figure this out in terms of the sea and the view. Our brochure page says half board ( but does not state how many dinners or lunches included)- on page 9 of our brochure states the exact number of meals will be provided to you. On your invoice it states this. You received a invoice on more than 1 occasion before April 2023. In your package you are receiving 7 breakfasts, 4 dinners with wine and 2 lunches. For me this is half board, I am sorry if you feel it is not half board. It states very very clearly on your invoices that only 4 dinners are included. This has never changed by Friendship Travel at any time on our web site or printed brochure. It was also stated on your invoice what was included when you booked in November 2022. We have never changed any of these details. I also note from your reviews on Trust Pilot out of the 10 reviews have made, you have given 1 star to 9 companies...... I am sorry you thought Friendship Travel 'changed' items but this is 100% not the case, Anyone reading this now can look at our printed brochure or web site and see what is clearly stated. Why would someone cancel a holiday and loose 60% of their monies because of the above items .... I am sorry Janice but at Friendship Travel we are baffled... If you wish to discuss this at any time, please return my call. Regards - Colum - MD.

Very disappointed.

Recently returned from a short break in Morocco and can honestly say it was the worst trip I have ever been on. The accommodation was basic to say the least and the amenities and food were extremely poor. At least the staff were nice and helpful and I enjoyed a couple of days of sunshine. Will not use this company again as I feel that their description of the break was very misleading.

My favourite place to relax

I have just returned from my second visit to this hotel this year making it my sixth visit overall. The booking process was easy online and office support was as, always very good. Although the hotel is three star, for a three star hotel the service is excellent and the pool is a decent size for swimming. Pool area spotless and gardens beautful. The hotel is clean, and the location at Ovacik means that it is cooler than down in Olu Deniz. The evening meals in the hotel are very good quality, a guest commented that they were better than the five star hotel he had recently stayed in. Jean the rep looks after everyone and makes sure no one is left out. A house party is an excellent choice for anyone new to singles holidays. The flexibility of regional flights offered by FT is particularly good for those of us who are some distance from London.

Airport Arrival Transfer

When will i meet my driver .

Your driver will enter the arrivals hall at the airport 30 minutes after your flight has landed, based on the flight details you have given us. Our driver will then wait for you in the arrivals hall for 60 minutes. Please ensure you double check your Welcome Letter when you receive it to ensure the flight details you have given us are correct.

You do not have to worry if your flight is delayed en route - all flights are monitored by our staff, and the driver will adjust their arrival at the airport to the actual landing time. If you would like to select a later meeting time, please contact us to arrange this, no less than 72 hours prior to your arrival date.

If you are delayed in immigration, luggage collection or anywhere else in the airport, you must contact us using the emergency number given on your Welcome Letter. Please be aware that emails are not monitored out of hours.

Where will I meet my driver?

Your driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall. After you have collected your luggage, you will walk through into the arrivals hall. Your driver will be holding an ‘International Friends’ board with your name on.

What if I am delayed coming through the airport?

The driver will arrive at the airport 30 minutes after your landing time and will wait in the arrivals hall for 60 minutes. This gives you a total of 90 minutes to make your way to the arrivals hall, which in our experience, is plenty of time.

If you are delayed in coming through the airport, please contact us as soon as possible using the emergency telephone number given in your Welcome Letter. Once we have your details, we will liaise with our drivers and do our best to guarantee your pick up.

If we have not heard from you 60 minutes after the driver has arrived at the airport (90 minutes after your flight has landed), we are no longer able to guarantee your transfer and your driver may be forced to leave. If the driver can wait, additional waiting charges will be applied, which you will be liable for before completing your transfer. We strongly recommend taking out a travel insurance policy to protect you from unforeseen delays or other factors beyond your control.

What if my flight is cancelled or I miss my flight?

If your flight is cancelled before take-off or you miss your flight, please contact us with your new flight details as soon as possible, using the emergency number given in your Welcome Letter. Once we have your updated details, we will liaise with our drivers and do our best to accommodate your new pick up time. Please note that additional charges may apply.

How long will it take to get to my hotel?

This depends on which airport you are flying into and what hotel you have booked. Due to the nature of road conditions in Central London, we cannot give exact journey times, but approximate travel times into Central London are;

From Heathrow: 45-60 minutes

From Gatwick: 75-90 minutes

How much luggage can I bring?

Each person is allowed a maximum of 2 items of hold luggage (23kg each) and 1 items of carry on luggage (10kg each). Should you wish to bring any mobility aids (wheelchairs or walkers) you  MUST  contact us in advance to let us know. We will require full dimensions and weight. These items must be able to be folded and stored in the luggage hold. Wheelchairs must be counted as 1 item of your hold luggage. Additional charges will be incurred should you bring additional items of luggage or for items weighing more than the maximum weight stated above.

Should we tip our driver?

Tips are entirely at the customer’s discretion and in no way expected. Should you feel inclined to tip your driver would be grateful, but you should not feel obliged.

Questions to consider when selecting your Tour Company

research is key to selecting the right company, please read this carefully before you sign up with any tour company.

What is the Tour Company’s main focus?

Several vacation tour companies have attempted to make inroads into the Christian

Pilgrimage market. Friendship Tours only specializes in Christian pilgrimages. We do not sell vacation packages to other countries. Christian Pilgrimages is all we do and we do it well!

What knowledge does the company have about their guides?

The owners of Friendship Tours personally screen and select all of our guides.  We choose guides who are flexible and responsive to the needs of our group leaders.  Our guides are well informed with a broad base of knowledge in both the Old and New Testament. Our guides make us successful and this is why our group leaders re-book year after year with us.

How long has the company been around?

After 9/11 several companies avoided refunding churches the tour payments and closed shop only to re-open under a different name. Friendship Tours has been in business since 1982 and has refunded all travelers their money.  Every client was cared for after 9/11. This level of service and trust is important in the ever-changing world we live in.

Are the company owners Christian?

Money blog: The Taylor Swift tickets scam - what to look out for

Scammers have been taking over people's Facebook accounts and using them to advertise fake Taylor Swift tickets. Read this and more in the Money blog - your place for consumer and personal finance news. And you can listen to the latest Ian King Business Podcast as you scroll.

Official figures published at 7am have confirmed the UK entered a recession in the second half of last year.

As we explained when we reported the recession news in February, the figures were subject to revision - but the Office for National Statistics has now confirmed there were two consecutive quarters in which the economy shrank.

There was a 0.1% contraction between July and September, and a 0.3% fall between October and December.

Data and economics editor Ed Conway said: "This is probably going to be one of the shallowest recessions we've ever seen.

"When we use the R word, we usually associate it with high unemployment, a really big fall in gross domestic product, which is just total national income.

"In this case, unemployment is still relatively low. National income has gone down a bit.

"But none of this changes the fact the overall picture is pretty bleak, especially for a lot of people."

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt said in response: "Last year was tough as interest rates had to rise to bring down inflation, but we can see our plan is working.

"Inflation has fallen decisively from over 11% to 3.4%, the economy grew in January and real wages have increased for eight months in a row."

They're the most sought-after concert tickets for a generation - so it's no surprise scammers are trying to take advantage of the appetite among Swifties to see their favourite artist.

The Money team has seen first-hand an incredibly convincing scam in which a friend's Facebook account is taken over.

A day or two after taking control of the account, the scammers post about having bought tickets for one of this summer's UK shows - but that something has come up which means they can't go.

Often, they try to sell the tickets at face value.

One of the Money team almost got scammed themselves until the impersonator presented bank details with a different name.

When questioned, they said it was their business partner...

The con is made more convincing by fake screenshots of tickets the scammers send...

Those whose accounts are taken over report their email addresses and contact numbers - meaning getting their profile back can be tricky.

People have reported to us that they've been through all the recovery steps and their account has still been disabled.

In another trick, scammers infiltrate Facebook groups, selling their fake tickets to unsuspecting members.

People across the world have reported falling victim, from Victoria in Australia to Ipswich in the UK.

Suffolk Trading Standards issued this warning: "We are seeing scam posts across Facebook from fraudsters posing as individuals selling tickets for the June and August 2024 Taylor Swift concerts.

"Posts indicate that they have spare tickets that were 'panic bought' or they now have 'conflicting commitments'. All posts ask you to private message the seller.

"Please report posts to the admin of the group to have the post removed and individual blocked."

The best advice if you're one of the thousands (millions?) of Swifties who've missed out on tickets is to use official resale websites.

To keep your Facebook account secure, create a strong password, enable two-factor authentication and be suspicious of messages asking for personal details.

We asked Meta for its response and they told us it was an industry-wide issue, with scammers using sophisticated methods to defraud people, both in person and online.

Despite numerous reports of people losing out to con artists via Facebook, it said it had systems in place to block scams.

It said people could report suspicious activity in a few clicks and it urged them to use the Security Checkup feature.

Anyone concerned they may have been hacked can visit Facebook's  help centre to secure their account.

Property sellers are accepting an average £10,000 (3.9%) discount to the asking price to secure a sale.

March's figure is a marked improvement on the £14,250 average discount (4.5%) seen in November 2023.

The Zoopla data also shows that more sellers are returning to the market, with the stock of homes for sale up 20% on this time last year.

At the same time, the property website says falling mortgage rates and rising wages are increasing consumer confidence - both factors in feeding into the improving levels of housing market activity.

The strongest growth in sales activity continues to be in areas with more affordable house prices such as Yorkshire and The Humber (+11%), where the average house price is £185,600, and the North West (+13%), with an average house price of £194,500.

The strongest growth in new sellers listing homes is in the South West (+28%) and North East (+26%).

"We don't believe that house prices are about to increase more quickly but there is more buyer interest," Richard Donnell, executive director at Zoopla, said.

"Sellers need to remain realistic on where they set the asking price if they are to take advantage of improving market conditions to secure a sale and move home in 2024."

Spills of raw sewage into England's rivers and seas reached their worst on record last year.

Discharges of untreated sewage by water companies doubled from 1.8 million hours in 2022 to a record 3.6 million, according to new Environment Agency data.

The number of individual spills also soared by 54% - from 301,000 incidents to 464,000.

Insurance companies have been told they must offer full value to settle claims relating to written-off and stolen cars after further "shortcomings" were found by an industry regulator.

A review by the Financial Conduct Authority found that some firms were offering customers less than their vehicle was worth and, in some cases, only increased the offer when a customer complained.

The competition regulator has urged UK fashion businesses to give accurate information about how environmentally friendly their clothes are after three fast-fashion firms signed a new agreement.

The Competition and Markets Authority initiated an investigation into Boohoo, ASOS and George by Asda over concerns about the way products were marketed as eco-friendly.

Its initial review of the fashion sector identified concerns of possible greenwashing - making items appear environmentally friendly when they are not.

But the firms have pledged to provide clear, prominent and transparent information about any environmental claims made.

A multibillion-pound electricity cable running from Scotland to England that will power two million homes has been given the green light.

The high-voltage "electricity superhighway" will connect Peterhead in Aberdeenshire to Drax in North Yorkshire when it is completed in 2029 at a cost of £3.4bn.

It will carry clean energy 500km from Scottish wind farms, allowing them to operate at a greater capacity.

Some wind farms that could be producing energy have to shut down because there is not enough grid capacity to carry their power to places where it could be used.

Because of the way their contracts work, they are paid when asked to shut down due to what could be described as congestion.

So far this month nearly £50m has been paid to farms for shutting down, according to the UK Wind Curtailment Monitor.

The two gigawatt cable, approved today by Ofgem, the energy regulator, will run mainly on the bottom of the North Sea, but around 70 kilometres of it will be buried underground.

A new route from Manchester Airport to Luxembourg Airport will be available from 1 April.

Luxair is slated to provide three flights a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The journey, which takes a little under two hours, is the latest in a string of additions to Manchester's timetable.

Easyjet will launch flights to Paris Orly Airport on 27 March, while Jet2 has promised to get travellers to Porto from 4 July to 3 November.

The boss of British Gas owner Centrica saw his pay nearly double  to £8.2m in 2023, accounts show.

Chris O'Shea said previously his pay of £4.5m in 2022 was impossible to justify.

Mr O'Shea, who has led the firm since 2020, earned a £810,000 salary, around £1.4million in annual bonuses and £5.9million in longer-term bonuses.

"As Mr O'Shea himself admitted a few weeks ago, it's not really credible to argue the work that he does is at all proportionate to a pay award even half this size," Luke Hildyard, of thinktank the High Pay Centre, said.

Anyone worried about what artificial intelligence (AI) means for the future of the workplace woke up to some bad news this morning...

Up to eight million UK jobs are at risk from the rise of AI , according to a report warning that the low-skilled would be worst affected.

It said that back office, entry level and part-time jobs were at the highest risk of being disrupted during the so-called first wave, with women and young people the most likely to be affected as a result.

A comedian has been forced to remove a picture of a hot dog from posters promoting his stand-up tour after falling foul of Transport for London's (TfL) advertising policies.

Ed Gamble used an image of the popular barbecue staple in advertising posters for his upcoming Hot Diggity Dog tour.

But when the billboards were sent to TfL for display on the  London Underground , the stand-up comic was told to alter the poster because it failed to comply with the organisation's advertising policy on junk foods.

So the 38-year-old, who recently starred as the host of the Traitors: Uncloaked, improvised by offering to replace the hot dog with a cucumber.

"I actually don't have a problem with the TfL regulations, they make sense to me," he said.

"But the new posters promote something way more harmful - the idea that cucumbers pair well with ketchup and mustard."

A disgruntled rail passenger has gone viral after pointing out that it would be cheaper for him to get a return flight to another continent than going by train from London to Scotland.

Chris Thomson shared screenshots showing rail prices over £100 for London Euston to Motherwell on Trainline, while flights to Essaouira in Morocco began at £54 on Skyscanner.

His post on X has had more than 12,000 likes.

The response to Chris's post has been mixed, with some agreeing that the prices are "wild"...

Train ticket prices are wild. Tried to get from Glasgow to Birmingham and back, they wanted 350 quid. Just booked a bus for 25 quid instead. @RussleSprout88

Others suggested it was Chris at fault for trying to book last-minute...

Yet I'm currently travelling to Glasgow from Crewe for £29. Maybe because I didn't look for the most expensive, flexible, late notice rail fares and compare them to cheap, inflexible, advance air fares. @MggW

Rail fares will rise by 8.7% in Scotland next week, after the Scottish government argued previous fare freezes were not sustainable.

For those in England and Wales, fares rose by 4.9% on 3 March.

When an email landed in our Money team inbox this morning about the calorie count of Easter eggs, our instinct was to roll our eyes, click delete and make a round of coffees to wash down the Mini-Eggs we just had for breakfast.

But with an NHS doctor today getting stick for urging people not to eat an Easter egg in one go (see 9.11am post), we reluctantly decided to take a second look.

Sports nutrition provider Bulk.com has swept the supermarket shelves to find the lowest calorie chocolate egg.

They found the Moo Free Bunnycomb Easter egg was the least calorific - coming in at 454 calories for the whole thing.

Not far behind was the Kinder Surprise egg at 579 calories in total.

If you check out the other end of the scale - a KitKat Caramel Cookie Collision Incredible Egg was found to be the most calorific supermarket Easter egg at 2,691 calories.

Here are the other options with price tags included...

Some advice

"It's important to keep in mind that overindulging in chocolate over the Easter period is unlikely to completely ruin any weight loss goals you may have," a Bulk spokesperson said.

“Weight gain tends to happen over a much longer window of time, so even if you are eating over your body's daily caloric intake for several days, you are unlikely to observe any noticeable fat gain.

"However, if you still intend to be mindful of your chocolate consumption this Easter, consider buying several smaller Easter eggs rather than one large one.

"This way, you can eat the whole Easter egg in one sitting, without feeling as guilty, while still satisfying your sugar cravings."

Remember...

Calories are a way of measuring energy and shouldn't be directly equated to how "healthy" a certain food may or may not be. You should also take fats, sugars and additives into account if looking for the healthiest options. Many of us in the UK consume too many or too few calories than is optimally "healthy", so carry out your own research to find what works for you.

For context, the average woman should consume around 2,000 calories per day, while the typical man should be looking for closer to 2,500.

We've been banging on about Monday's energy price cap change for some time - and for good reason.

The average household bill will drop by £238 a year due to the changes, but some might not get full savings in their April bill unless they take crucial steps.

That involves taking and submitting meter readings by Monday.

(If you have a pre-paid or smart meter, stop reading - you can kick your feet up and relax.)

Why do I need to read my meter?

Energy companies can bill you based on usage estimates. Anyone who has received an outlandish bill before knows these estimates can be inaccurate.

So, taking a reading on or around 1 April ensures any estimates are taken with the correct, lower price cap from that date.

A small note

With so many of us doing the same thing and submitting readings via sites or apps - servers can often crash.

Don't worry if that happens, as you can backdate meter readings anywhere from five days to two weeks later (check with your provider for details).
