For that time may be true but nowadays there’s lots of tour companies which offer best services with affordable price. You might also found them in Tanzania including https://luitours.com/ . You should pay another visit soon.

LuiTours & Safaris is Tanzanian Tour Company based in Moshi (Kilimanjaro) and Dar es Salaam, and it offers the most competitive rates on safari tour packages. https://luitours.com/ If you are looking for the ultimate safari experience, day trips or looking to relax on best Indian Ocean beaches of Zanzibar, our team will make sure that your holiday becomes unforgettable.

Capture every awe-inspiring moment on your camera, making memories that will last a lifetime. For me once used Tanzania Inside and Safari, and everything went well

There are so more amazing companies just like: https://www.sunstripafricasafaris.com/

We had an awesome experience the last time we visited Kenya and Tanzania. Our guides were incredibly nice and patient with us and very informative.

' src=

Thank you for having these selections.

Perhaps, there are so more amazing companies just like https://wildtravelsafaris.com . We had an awesome experience the last time we visited Uganda & Rwanda. Our guide Richard was incredibly nice and patient with us for the 2 weeks. He answered almost every question and made sure everything was in order as per the earlier agreement.

When it comes to Uganda or Rwanda Gorilla Trekking, you want to use https://wildtravelsafaris.com and also https://www.ugandatravelsafaris.com as an alternative platforms of them. They offer unforgettable journeys to gorillas. Give them an opportunity, you won’t regret it.

' src=

We had an awesome experience the last time we visited Uganda. Our guide Tony was incredibly nice and patient with us. He answered all the little questions and made sure all was in order as per the earlier agreement.

When it comes to Uganda or Rwanda Gorilla Trekking, you want to use https://silverbackgorillatrekking.com , they offer unforgettable journeys to gorillas.

Give them a shot and you wont regret.

' src=

I have see that you point out 10 of the Best African Safari Tour Operators that is Great but there is another company that deserves space in the top 10 – Foot Slopes Tours and Safaris ltd, website https://www.footslopestours.com/ They organize the best private custom safari, honeymoon, Kilimanjaro climbing, hiking and trekking mountain family holidays in Tanzania. They have experienced safari guides and staffs are best in the industry.

' src=

In essence it’s a tough pick for the best safari companies as best is relative and times change. Moreover, companies evolve for better and unfortunately others for worse. There are also local based companies that have competence and overall good service.

Check out https://www.alphadeantoursandsafaris.com/ as well as https://www.africamagicalsafaris.com/index.php

' src=

It would also be nice to consider Kenya-based safari companies like Explorer Kenya Tours and Travel for honeymooners safaris, photography safaris and Kenya wildlife safaris. See them on http://www.explorerkenya.com .

' src=

This is not a definitive, or updated list of the world’s ”best” safari companies. I think A&K should surely make the proper list, along with & Beyond. But someone has rightfully pointed out that these companies are quite expensive. A few years ago, I enjoyed a fabulous African Safari in Kenya with Shoor Safaris ( http://www.shoortravel.com/ ) at much cheaper rates using the same properties I was being offered by a top US operator. So do shop around and book wisely.

' src=

Thanks for your comment Carol. Sure, it’s not a “definitive” list. At the end of the day, it all depends on what YOU’re looking for. Choose wisely and “safari njema”! 😉

' src=

Based on the dates you posted the article, that was true but now things have really changed. Those tour companies that are not keeping up with the advancement of technology especially online marketing are being overtaken by smaller operators who have invested heavily in online marketing.

' src=

Most of the companies listed above are very expensive. I found a newer tour operator based in the US that runs their trips out of an office in Tanzania. They where almost half the price of the quote I got from Micato and 35% less than Thomsons. Our trip was great. I guess that the others charge more because they have a name. Anyway, check them out and see if they can do your trip cheaper http://www.etripafrica.com .

Good Safari.

' src=

I have gone through the list of safari companies listed and while it is true that they do offer great services, I am not sure that they are the top 10. There are a number of companies operating regionally and internationally that offer just as good or better services.

Another thing is there are some good companies who have had their names sullied by one disgruntled client over the most minor issue. Tour guides are humans and something like a flat tire is something that is sometimes unavoidable. However, some clients since they book these tours way in advance a few things could have happened in the months leading up to the safari making them wish they hadn’t booked. Take the world economic crisis, a client books his safari one or two years in advance only to lose a job. So reviews by clients should be taken in totality not from one disgruntled client.

' src=

Hello Michael.

I have seen the list of the top 10 safari companies doing safaris in Africa. In Uganda you have listed Volcanoes only. There is another company that deserves space in the top 10 – Advantage Safaris ltd, website http://www.advantage-safaris.com . They organize the best birdwatching, gorilla tracking, chimpanzee tracking and family holidays in both Uganda and Rwanda. The guides and safari drivers employed by Advantage Safaris ltd are the best in the industry.

' src=

All safari goers should be a little wary of the ‘group style’ safaris on offer. Remember that you are trying to get close to wildlife and be sensitive as well as be educated. Larger groups, of say 16 people or more, in numerous vehicles can find this a little difficult. Large groups are often led by ‘an expert’ with driver/guides in the other vehicles. Whilst this keeps the cost per head down some the overall ‘life time experience ‘ can get a little diluted by sharing one so called ‘expert’ between 16-20 group members.

Tanzania is a wonderful safari destination but you cannot beat a small group of up to 8 visitors being guided by two excellent guides in two well equipped vehicles. Guides that know the back roads and want to explore.

Camp in remote locations, don’t be surrounded by cement in a lodge. It costs more but these basic rules can get a visitor closer to that dream vacation.

' src=

I agree that it is impossible to limit the world’s best safari companies down to a list of 10, especially when each safari company is focused on a different region and/or type of trip (adventure, family, honeymoon, luxury, etc.). In many cases it’s like comparing apples and oranges.

' src=

Thanks for the feedback, you definitely have a point here. Of course, they can't possibly make a "real" top 10 out of the thousands of safari companies out there. But then again, how would you do it? Did you check out their methodology? Basically, it is based on surveys that follow specific categories: education, sustainability, quality of service and spirit of adventure.

About the "trip of a lifetime" experience. This goal should always be on top of the list, totally agree with you. The question is: are they all going for it? I don't think so. I have read a few stories where people were really not well catered for. In my opinion, there are always companies out there that are looking for a quick buck no matter what… even if it has to be at the expense of their clients.

Not quite sure what you're trying to imply about the recession bit. Did you read that? Possible but am not aware of it.

' src=

Hello Michael,

Interesting topic that is being discussed here. I must say though that the premise of NG a bit of an awkward one is. 'Delivering a trip of a lifetime the first time'?? In my opinion a safari outfitter should ALWAYS try to achieve this goal the first time. Now NG suggests that there are a number of operators out there that are not doing their utmost to accommodate clients the first time and that they will only do so in times of recession.

I therefore dare to say that this survey is absolute nonsense, as NG will not have the possibility to survey 100's of operators. Why? Because they have other things to do than being a consumer watchdog on safaris. I am not implying that the mentioned companies are no good, I am just saying that out of all the thousands of companies selling safaris, you can not just make a list of 10.

What do you think yourself Michael?

Cheers from Holland.

These activities are limited to specific destinations so if you are looking for a more varied or active safari, then please get in touch with a member of the team at The Africa Specialists and we can give our honest, expert advice on where to go.

Surrender to the lure of Africa and its diverse wildlife, thousands of cultures and breathtaking landscapes.

Meaning ‘to travel’ in Arabic and Swahili, the word ‘safari’ can describe many types of epic adventure in Africa. There is the ancient Egypt kind – discovering the lost city of Abu Simbel and the Valley of the Kings. The nomadic one – veering away from Morocco’s souqs and medinas and being hosted by a Berber family in the Sahara. The local village version – cherishing moments with Maasai , San, and Malagasy cultures. The wildlife way – search for the Big Five in any number of game reserves and parks: Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Kruger, and Lake Nakuru, to name a few. What does your African adventure look like?

The Top 10 African Safari Tours in 2021

Scott Bay is a magazine editor specializing in travel, architecture, and gear. He was previously an assistant editor at Travel + Leisure . His work has also appeared in Wired , Architectural Digest , Wallpaper , Robb Report , Saveur , Daily Beast , and more.

This year's World's Best Awards survey was open for voting January 11 through May 10, 2021, as destinations around the world were lifting COVID-19 restrictions. Survey rules have always allowed readers to reflect on their travel experiences over a three-year period. We hope that this year's honorees will inspire your own travels as you get back out into the world.

A safari tops most of Travel + Leisure readers' bucket lists — a trip that many spend a lifetime daydreaming about , saving for, and eventually splurging on. On this type of adventure, travelers pull out all of the stops and have high expectations. One of the best ways to have that dream trip live up to expectations is to hire one of the best safari outfitters, as voted by the discerning readers of T+L.

Every year for our World's Best Awards survey , T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Readers rated tour operators and safari outfitters based on their staff and guides, itineraries and destinations, activities, accommodations, food, and overall value.

The safari companies favored by T+L readers owe much of their success to the talented advisors, who get to know their clients so they can create truly customized trips. "We couldn't have worked with a better group of people," one reader said of No. 5 winner Travel Beyond. "They were friendly, efficient, informative, and made sure our entire trip went smoothly. We never had a care."

Each safari outfitter also displays a deep connection to the national world and conservation efforts . Readers felt that No. 10 andBeyond particularly excelled in this area: "They have an excellent commitment to local communities, protecting wildlife and the environment." Another reader said of No. 9 Wilderness Safaris, "Their commitment to local communities and protecting wildlife is outstanding."

Read on to see the full list of T+L readers' picks for the best safari outfitters — all of which not only make spotting the Big Five easy but also arrange unparalleled perks and accommodations.

1. Micato Safaris

This company has been voted onto T+L's list of the world's best safari outfitters every year since the awards' inception — and for good reason. The family-run business has deep roots in Kenya, and its owners' love for the country (and continent) is evident in the way they operate. Each itinerary, whether private or with a group, is tailored to be the most luxurious, comfortable, and exciting adventure possible. Readers couldn't say enough kind words about their recent trips. "Never met tour guides or staff that were so friendly and knowledgeable about the animals and the locations and the culture," wrote one reader. "They seemed to have a sixth sense for anticipating our needs. It was really something." A few more touted Micato's reputation, with one saying, "Simply the best safari outfitter in Africa. Bar none."

MoAfrika Tours is a touring company with a difference.

We don’t specialise in just taking our guests into the most famous reserves in South Africa, we also host our guests in those urban cities that have made South Africa famous! We know that our guests come to Africa in search of those incredible animal sightings often seen on the big screen, but we also know that animals are not the only reason they search for tours into one of the last continents to truly be wild. The cities of South Africa are unlike any you will come across in other nations. On the outside, they are splashed with the veneer of westernisation but beneath the surface lies the most incredible history rooted deep in Africa, a hold on cultures the people are passionate about.

Luxury and Budget African Safaris, Tours,Holidays

Tourist attractions in South Africa are sometimes best seen by booking a tour . For close on 2 decades, MoAfrika has been taking both local and international tourists to those attractions that are considered to be the best places to visit in South Africa. Our many years of travelling the country have allowed us to create the perfect tour packages!

South Africa. There is not another place like it on earth! For so many reasons, South Africa is one of the world’s very best destinations for tourists, even though we might be considered a third world nation. Despite political setbacks and a little lack of development here and there, South Africa still has plenty to offer. We have more than 100+ South African Tours.

#1 African Safari Operator for affordable budget and luxury tailor-made safari packages.

Call it rustic appeal, or perhaps it is the intrigue that keeps bringing tourists back to our shores, South African holidays are undeniably a once in a lifetime experience. From Kruger Park safaris and other wildlife experiences to bustling city hubs and stunning, sometimes blissfully empty coastlines, South Africa is every tourist’s dream destination.

Where to go when planning a Guided African Tour or Safari

The list is literally endless. And what’s really great about planning a trip to South Africa is that your itinerary can be set up to match your mood or your personality. Sounds farfetched but it’s true. Travelling during the offseason (particularly during the South African school terms and the winter months) could present you with a quieter experience. You could also opt to avoid the “hot” destinations, such as Cape Town and head inland to the Pilanesberg, where you can have a laidback safari.

You might like our Victoria Falls Tours

But in order to plan where you will be going, you first need to know what is out there. South Africa is quite an affordable destination for overseas tourists , and with all of the modern day amenities, your holiday is going to be a relaxed one.

One thing to keep in mind when planning, is that each part of South Africa is very different from the next. Not only are we a culturally diverse nation, but it sometimes feels like each region of our nation is actually a part of a completely different country altogether. This is because our country has many different eco-systems, landscapes and people.

This is our list of places where you should go while here, but always keep in mind that with each place we mention, there are numerous other places surrounding it. For instance, say you go to Cape Town . Within Cape Town, there are hundreds of attractions, but journeying just outside of the city will present more than you bargained for. Think of it as micro-attractions within and around the main attraction. With this in mind, you won’t miss a thing!

Since we’re talking about Cape Town quite a bit, we might as well start this list with the Mother City. Cape Town is a brilliant place to visit, regardless of the time of year. It offers something all year round and the beauty of the city and its surrounds is undeniable. Not only will you find that there is a myriad of incredible beaches, which you will find difficult to tear away from during the summer, but there are many urban attractions including the V&A Waterfront and thousands of great places to eat.

You might like: Cape Town Safaris

And then there is Table Mountain, Boulders Beach (which is home to penguins) and just outside of the city, you’ll find acre upon acre of wine land country. You’ll never be bored here, but you might find it a bit overwhelming to plan your stay. If this is the case, have a look at the tour options we have available.

Sun City and the Pilanesberg

This is a two in one treat. You get to have the safari experience, alongside some city fun! South Africa is a great place to experience a safari, and while the Kruger Park safari is the most popular destination, it is by no means the only wildlife destination. Game parks offering wildlife safaris are dotted all over South Africa. And some of the best South African safari packages are based in the Pilanesberg.

Much like other places in South Africa, the Pilanesberg is full of history. But not the kind you might be thinking. This reserve is in a crater and has many geologically significant points. Aside from that, it is also home to all kinds of animals; predators and plains game alike. We highly recommend staying more than a day in the Pilanesberg and we have just the tour package for you!

And our Pilanesberg tour package happens to include a stop off at the fantasy world that is Sun City. For some tourists, Sun City is the ultimate resort destination. The resort is only 3 hours away from Johannesburg and provides plenty of entertainment including its own man-made beach! Whether you visit here after your stay in the Pilanesberg or if you choose to make Sun City your main holiday destination, you won’t be disappointed.

Kwa-Zulu Natal and Durban

Should you travel from Cape Town to the Pilanesberg and then head to Kwa-Zulu Natal, you will instantly notice that the landscape has made a dramatic change. Kwa-Zulu Natal could not be more different from the dry interior. This province is well known for its dramatic greenery as well as the intense humidity. The province has many safari destinations but it is best known for its beaches and for its historical landmarks. Many wars have taken place in this province and tourists can take tours of the battlegrounds while learning about the fights that have influenced South African history.

After exploring the province and visiting the battlegrounds and perhaps even enjoying a hike in the Drakensberg Mountains, taking a tour of Durban is a fantastic way to make sure that you have seen all that this part of the world has to offer.

Durban is a city filled with life and it is home to many different cultures. Much like Cape Town, there is plenty to do in and around the city, and a tour is the best way to get a genuine feeling for the city. Of all the incredible places to see in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Durban is the final jewel in the journey. And Durban is known as the “Playground” for a reason. Along with spending time on the beaches, you can also visit uShaka Marine World.

Kwa-Zulu Natal also gives tourists the opportunity to go on a real wildlife safari. The Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park is well-known for its white rhino conservation programme, and guests to the park will be in the perfect position to see these magnificent animals.

Province By Province: Other Must-See Places in South Africa

MoAfrika has specially created many tours in order to give tourists an unbelievable South African holiday. The great thing about booking a tour with a travel operator is that all of the admin and planning is taken care of, but it also adds a bit of diversity to your South African excursions. A tour with an experienced tour guide is far more interactive and exciting, as your guide is going to be well informed about where you are headed. They will be able to share all kinds of information about where you are going. Every province in the country is different and has attractions that are unique to the province.

South Africa has 9 provinces and here are the must-see places of each.

It is exceptionally difficult to decide on a single destination in this province. Many would say that this is South Africa’s tourism capital because it is home to the most popular areas of the Kruger National Park. While the Kruger extends into the Limpopo Province, most of the action happens in the southern areas of the Kruger. View Our Kruger National Park Safaris

For many tourists , the Kruger Park safari is the main reason why they venture to our country. Kruger Park safaris are as popular as ever. There is never a dull moment in the park and the only regret you might have is not spending more time here!

Limpopo is another of South Africa’s provinces that are home to countless safari destinations. The province is hot and dry; it is rugged and rustic. One of the best places to visit is up in the mountains, well away from the heat. We’ve already mentioned a safari destination, so instead of pointing out another one, we’re headed to the Magoebaskloof. In this area of the province, there are places to go fishing, places to enjoy a memorable meal and there are countless hiking trails. A self-drive is possibly the easier way to see the area in its entirety, however, if you should prefer not to drive yourself, there are tours available.

Kwa-Zulu Natal

Away from the busy tourist areas, you will find plenty of enjoyment in the Midlands as well as at various stops along the Drakensberg Mountain Range. A hike in the Drakensberg will possibly give you a different perspective of the world around you. The pictures simply don’t do these mountains any justice. You can experience all seasons in one day when you are in the mountains, so knowing what to pack and having some knowledge of the trail is very important. You might want to consider booking a hiking tour instead of going solo. View our Durban Tours

North West Province

Even with all the faults our country has, one thing is certain: we are committed to conservation! Just about every province has some conservation effort going on, and just about every nature reserve has a conservation programme running.

The Lion Park is devoted to the conservation of lions, and guests to the park will see lions in a way that they would never have otherwise seen them. Here you will have a different kind of unforgettable safari.

Although it is South Africa’s most urban province, it is just that characteristic that makes Gauteng such a stunning place to visit. Taking a tour around Pretoria, Soweto and Johannesburg is a must, as is paying a visit to all of the biggest landmarks, such as the Union Buildings. Both cities can be daunting to navigate if you haven’t been there before, so sometimes the best way to see everything is by touring with an operator.

A larger portion of the South African farming community is based here. So you can just imagine the flatlands filled with row upon row of maize plants. Even though the Free State might not seem like the most enticing destination, visiting Clarens makes it all worth it. Clarens is based in the foothills of the beautiful Maluti Mountains. This small town is perfect for hikers as well as for those looking for a romantic getaway.

Northern Cape

Also home to a few safari reserves, the Northern Cape is known for its extremely hot, desert-like climate. The big attraction that you shouldn’t miss seeing is the Big Hole. What started out as a mine has become a tourist attraction, and while it is disputed whether or not the Hole is the biggest hole excavated by land, it is truly a sight to see!

Eastern Cape

Arguably South Africa’s wildest province, the Eastern Cape is not only home to secret beaches, but it is also home to the Wild Coast. Kilometre upon kilometre pristine yet, well, wild beaches, along with small tourist towns, dot the coastline, enticing visitors. You can also a href=”https://moafrikatours.com/tour-category/garden-route”>visit the Garden Route, which extends into the Western Cape.

Western Cape

With Cape Town and all of the surrounding wine lands, you are spoilt for choice when in this province. While here, be sure to tour around all the smaller towns. This province is filled with history, and you will find most of it in the small towns. This is also a different approach to touring the province.

Some of the best places to see in South Africa are off the beaten track. When you are planning a South African holiday or escape to natural beauty, to check out self-driving options as well as tour operators. A combination of the two can provide you with a stunning excursion.

The travel trade is founded on experience and on the quality of relationships between professionals. Many of our members have been working together for many years, and it was only a matter of time before we formalized a reality in the field and created our network of inbound tour operators. Such an incredible journey to South Africa! Our tour guide, Arthur, was absolutely amazing. Not only was he incredibly knowledgeable about the country, but he was also super friendly and had a great sense of humor. We had such a fantastic time with him!
This tour was one of the greatest travel experiences I've ever had. Our CEO Alfred Dovey led the way throughout South Africa with such care and knowledge about everything we did while providing clear direction of what each plan of the day was and where we needed to be. I feel was was able to see, learn and experience South Africa in a way I could have never done on my own. I highly recommend this G Adventure tour.

The CEO was a fantastic asset for the group, very competent, experienced, caring and reassuring in every circumstance. I believe that's what makes a difference in any tour. The tour pace was a bit too fast but expected since we covered something like 3000 km in 11 days. Overall it was a great tour.

This was a great tour !! I loved every moment of it ! The highlight for me would have been the bungy jumping which was just insane ! The views driving around were amazing ! I definitely recommend this tour
We cannot express our gratitude enough to this company for an amazing trip. I travelled with my grown up daughter and although am fit was a little nervous as did not want to be on a party trip. The communication with Eunice was excellent and she organised us our own twin room and bathroom. Our Capetown leg was amazing with Tariq our guide who was professional, informative, lots of fun and looked after us so well. Our backpackers were basic but clean and the trip from start to finish was so well organised. Our Jhb Kruger part of the trip was also amazing. We saw so many animals and our guides were informative and our accomodation was great. The best was staying in Marc’s treehouses where you will see the best of nature. If you are laid back, easy going and enjoy young people from different cultures and great experiences this trip is for you. Thank you to all the amazing staff for your exceptional service and helping us create lifelong memories,

Our driver KT was amazing. His exceptional knowledge on culture, demography and even botany took away the monotony of the endless miles from Capetown. He looked after us from the beginning of the tour right until the moment we said our goodbyes. I rate him 5*The walk with the elephants 5* The safari5*. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on this tour😍
Very nice tour for people who want to explore Garden Route and do not have much time for it. Nev was an excellent guide.

Our honeymoon vacation through South Africa was amazing! We got to see a little of everything and even with all the traveling around it was stress free. Our guide was terrific and we would 1000% book again!
Great itinerary, would have added Soweto as part of the standard to make the experience complete. CapeTown guide/driver was very pleasant, knowledgeable, prompt, and made us feel safe.

Very comfortable pace tour, and u will get to see most of the good stuffs. It could have been shorter but at the expense of rush factor. But it's very comfortable for me. The tour guide Matt, and our driver Benny, were both very professional, with Benny also being a high average driver. Just take note of the optional tours and it's prices that you are keen to take up and prepare some cash in advance. Matt will arrange time for ATM visits occasionally though. Nice tour!
An incredible experience that will stay with me my whole life

The accommodation is very nice and the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. I would particularly like to highlight the trip through the Kruger National Park with Daniel, with whom I traveled alone in a jeep. He has an excellent eye for animals that I would never have seen on my own. The best way to describe his very friendly manner is to give you an example. We were driving on a dirt road and Daniel asked an elderly couple coming towards us if they had spotted any animals, which they agreed. A few meters further on, Daniel spotted a cheetah and immediately turned around to tell the couple, as you don't see cheetahs every day. They were very grateful and we were able to watch the cheetah for about 30 minutes before it moved too far away. Many thanks to Daniel and all the other people who made my stay unforgettable. I still don't know whether I will travel to the national park again. It does sometimes seem a bit bizarre when 10 fully packed jeeps stand around an animal to get the best angle for a photo. On the other hand, this way of deriving economic benefit from wildlife is probably the only one that can contribute to the preservation of their habitat. At least within capitalism.
Amazing trip, highly recommend. Tour leader was very lovely helpful. Great meals only need to be a bit earlier :)

The tour was amazing. We had a large variety of experiences and excellent guides. Everything ran very smoothly. We would highly recommend this tour.
Cost-effective with great guides -- Zach Tathane and Jonathon Muller. However, our objective is to photograph memories rather than just get to the next hotel. Don't necessarily need more tours but you must add more photo stops!

The tour was really awesome. Each day we got to see so much and we were so lucky to get to see the Big 5! The only thing that let the experience down was the accommodation which was pretty dated and felt damp. But it had been wet and we were reluctant to overuse the aircon. The food was generous and the staff were very friendly and accomodating. Next time we go safari, we will spend a little more now that we know what to experimenter. Thank you for a great tour.
My Safari adventure at the Kruger National Park and panoramic tour in Johannesburg SA was a dream come true, a journey filled with unforgettable moments, breathtaking sights, and cherished memories that will stay with me forever. I wholeheartedly recommend this experience to all adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of the African wilderness. Thank you, Tour Radar, Msanzi Experience and Team Kruger Adventure Lodge, for an amazing and wonderful lifetime experience that will forever hold a special place in my heart. Nelfa Cabrera-Lehnert

Globus

  • Excellent - 74,880 reviews for South Africa tours
DO NOT USE GLOBUS!!! Cape Town and Makalali Lodge were amazing and would highly recommend them. The hotel in Johannesburg was nice but was kind of a waste of time to go there for 2 nights just to get a glimpse of the Apartheid. That should have been skipped or moved to the end since we were flying out of Joburg and made it a post extension option. Victoria Falls was beautiful but again 2 nights there is too much. It should have been a day tour or just one night. Nothing to do there once you see the Falls. Never any water on buses in the cities and for the price we should have had this and more meals included. The most disappointing part was that our guide, Wendy. Not only was she not very warm or personable, she never waited for the group to gather before going to the sites, but she didn’t travel with us to Botswana. Globus never mentioned this in any pre-trip information and Wendy didn’t tell us until we were leaving for Zimbabwe. She made it sound like she was leaving but another Globus guide would fill in for the remainder of the trip. That was not what happened. When we left Zimbabwe, Wendy flew home, and the rest of the tour group got on bus to the Botswana border where another bus picked us up and took us to the lodge. We were on our own for the rest of the trip. The hotel staff at Elephant Valley Lodge was very nice and told us what we had to do for our remaining time, but we should have had Globus representation. So many things could have gone wrong, and they were lucky that nothing did. At Elephant Valey Lodge, our agenda said we would have morning and afternoon game activities where we could choose from a game drive in Chobe National Park or a boat excursion. It ended up that there was not a morning and an afternoon activity but instead, they made us leave at 8am and return at 4pm on an all-day jeep tour in Chobe National Park. 8 hours in a jeep was awful, hot and boring. This was totally false advertising. The tents at the lodge were similar to the picture on their website but much dirtier and lots of bugs. I wasn’t prepared for that. I would go back to Africa but definitely not with Globus. The part I left out was that Wendy came up to me in Victoria Falls and handed me papers that would be needed for the group for the remainder of our trip to Botswana and then back to JoBerg. She knew that I planned corporate incentive trips for my job so she decided I could manage the group once she left. She did not ask me, she just gave me the papers. I had our hotel certificates for Botswana, our flight information back to JoBurg, I had a list of attendees with their personal information and then my personal agenda. I should not have been given any personal information for the other travellers. I did tell her that I would not accept any responsibility for the group and that she needed to tell the entire group what was going to happen so we all knew what to expect. I said I would carry the papers but not be the point of contact. This was totally not acceptable. I filled out the survey and also sent emails to Globus. They have never responded to me. This is the most unprofessional company I have ever worked with. The fact that our guide left, the tour was not what was published, never water on any buses in Cape Town or Johannesburg, and didn’t respond to concerns about the trip is very frustrating. I DO NOT RECOMMEND GLOBUS FOR TOURS!!! There are better companies who are less expensive and have more included and way better customer service.
Linda, our tour director made everything run smoothly, was delightful company and a fantastic source of local knowledge and information. the selection of destinations was varied and interesting. Lots of animals to see.

Address high cost of 2024 Hajj, ex-Lagos commissioner, Danmole, urges Tinubu

P resident Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been called upon to intervene and address the high cost of the 2024 Hajj, occasioned by the different regimes of rates of exchange given to the tour operators and the state pilgrims board.

Former Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Mohammed Oyinlomo Danmole, made the call in an open letter entitled: ‘Passionate appeal to Mr President to intervene on the high cost of 2024 Hajj’ addressed to President Tinubu, dated March 21st, 2024, copy of which was made available to newsmen, saying that the development had made it difficult for private tour operators to keep their clients.

Danmole, while making the appeal, noted that the private operators who had earlier collected a deposit of N5 million for the Hajj exercise while state pilgrims took a deposit of N4.5million, got a letter from National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) on Monday this week, demanding that a total amount of N5,013,473.33 was to be paid for services to be rendered by Saudi authorities, including accommodation in Makkah and Madinah.

According to the former commissioner, the rate of exchange used in coming to the above cost was based on N1,625.35 to $1 whereas the rate of exchange from Monday till today ranges between N1,400 and N1,450, declaring that there was no transparency in the rate used for state pilgrims which he said rumour had it that it was at the rate of N850 to $1.

He, however, noted that the unexpectedly high rate of exchange that NAHCON based its calculations on would affect the private operators negatively and be capable of disrupting the holy pilgrimage and sending them out of business.

Besides, Danmole also urged President Tinubu to intervene on the 4-day ultimatum given to tour operators, saying that he should ask those concerned to extend the deadline by one more week to enable operators to sensitise their pilgrims.

He expressed the belief that the president would do this “and put succour and smiles in the face of the private operators.”

The statement reads, “Mr President sir, Passionate appeal to Mr President to intervene on the high cost of 2024 Hajj.

“I am through this medium appealing to Your Excellency to intervene in the process of costing this year’s Hajj operation.

“As a result of different regimes of rates of exchange given the tour operators and the State Pilgrims Board, it has become difficult for private tour operators to keep their clients.

“The private operators who had earlier collected a deposit of N5m for exercise while State Pilgrims took a deposit of N4.5m, got a letter from NAHCON on Monday that a total amount of N5,013,473.33 is to be paid for services to be rendered by Saudi authorities and Accommodation in Makkah and Madinah. The rate of exchange used in coming to the above cost was based on the rate of N1,625.35 to $1. Suffice to say that the rate of exchange from Monday till today is between N1,400 and N1,450.

“There is no transparency in the rate used for state pilgrims which rumour had it that it is at the rate of N850 to a $1.

“That unexpectedly high rate of exchange the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria based their calculations on will affect the private operators negatively and capable of disrupting the Holy pilgrimage and sending them out of business.

“The President should intervene on the issue of a 4-day deadline given to operators and extend it to one more week to be able to sensitize their pilgrims.

“Your Excellency Sir, I am sure that you will intervene and put succour and smiles in the face of the private operators.

“I am appealing to the President to look into the high level of disparity in the exchange rate regime between the state-sponsored pilgrims and those of the private tour operators.”
