We were invited to attend the VIP evening

photo showing a group of 3 boys standing in front of a wall murial at safari play adventure

The boys love soft play, I think all children do and Peterborough was seriously lacking in choices. Until now, Safari Play Adventure and Party Venue opened their doors this evening for a VIP night. We were really excited to be asked to attend and I knew it was something that the boys would love. Safari Play opened their latest soft play centre in Bretton, Peterborough and seriously guys, you are in for a treat.

Welcome to Safari Play Adventure and Party Venue

safari adventure soft play peterborough

When you first visit Safari Play before you are allowed through your photo will be taken. This is to ensure safety for the children, they will not be allowed to leave without an adult from the photo present. The photos remain on the system until you ask for them to be removed. You also need to register which is something you can do online before you arrive. If you register online it is free however if you wait until you arrive there is a £3.50 charge.

Peterborough Safari Play has 2 rates of entry for off-peak and peak times. The prices are for a 2.5hour play time (unlimited during off peak) if you choose to stay longer,  there is a discounted rate you pay (50p an hour for adults, £1.50per child). When you arrive (during peak times) you pay for the initial 2.5hours, any extra is charged when you leave. Another thing is Safari Play is a cashless venue and there is no ability to accept cash anywhere on site.

Once you enter Safari Play Adventure and Party Venue everything is included in the price except for one thing. The big electric ride on cars cost 70p for 1 go, or £1.25 for unlimited. Depending on which you go for you are either given a token or a stamp on your hand. They are great fun and all 3 of mine really enjoyed going around on them.

 Memberships

There are several memberships available which give you unlimited play. From a pre-school pass to the premium pass it’s worth looking into if you are wanting to become regular! Passes start from £89 per year or £8.50 per month depending on if you pay via direct debit or not.

What is here?

The venue is split in half, you have the children’s play frame (5-12 years olds) on the left and the younger Toddler Village to the right. There is plenty of seating and lockers if you wanted to put your items away securely so you can go and play.

Adults are able to go around the frame to play too and even I enjoyed making my way around. The boys loved having me on there and I didn’t feel I couldn’t do anything being plus sized too.

Toddler Village

photo showing the role play buildings at safari play adventure

This is awesome! It is pretty much a scaled-down version of the larger soft play frame but for smaller children. There is a ball pool, little ride on cars slides as well the imagination village.

The Children’s Play Frame

photo showing the whole soft play centre at safari play adventure

The Children’s play frame is 3 tier frame with so much to do! There are slides, obstacle courses, sports section, nets and so much more! It goes further back as well as connecting the sports area which has goals and basketball hoops.

Volcano Slide

This was the boys favourite part I think. The Volcano Slide is accessible by running up and holding onto one of the blue climbing wall style holders. You then have to push yourself to the top! There is a rope you can use on one side for those a little less able to use the other way.

The Ride on cars

Like I said earlier the ride on cars is the only extra chargeable attraction. It is 70p for a token or £1.25 for a stamp which gives unlimited goes. You are able to get 2 on the ride on which Arthur loved as he could go around with the boys. He was able to use the pedals too, so don’t worry about the younger ones missing out. (Arthur is an average 5 year old size)

Safari Play Parties

football party room at safari play adventure

It is worth mentioning the Party Rooms in the post. I was able to have a look around the rooms and wow! There is 6 rooms; Jungle, Princess and Prince, Pirate, Superhero, Glow in the Dark, Sports as well as a witches and wizards room which was incomplete.

pirate party room at safari play adventure

Children who attend parties are given a wristband and they get 80 minutes to play time in the centre. When it is their time to be called through to the party room they each get to choose a dressing up outfit and they take their place at the table. The food will arrive and you are able to enjoy the room for a further 40 minutes. The host will come in with the birthday cake (Which you provide yourself) and everyone sings happy birthday. Once the party is over there is a dedicated exit, so you don’t come back the way you came.

Food and Drink

photo showing the "watering hole" cafe inside safari play adventure

Outside food and drink are not permitted unless you are feeding a small baby. There is the watering hole cafe that sells a range of hot and cold meals as well as snacks and drinks.

safari adventure soft play peterborough

The meals average around £5 per child and £7-8 for adults. It is all made on site and there is plenty of healthier options as well as the usual burgers, hot dogs and sausages.

Our thoughts

The boys and I had a great time at Safari Play Adventure and Party Venue. They had so much fun and it is refreshing to have a new venue to visit, especially with the summer holidays on the horizon. Remember to register before you go and check out the prices and latest information on their website here .

Safari Adventure Soft Play Peterborough

Brand new, this week is the official opening of Safari Adventure Soft Play Centre in Bretton,  Peterborough.

Safari Adventure is more than just a soft play centre though.  It also boasts a fab role play area, sports arena, cafe and much more!  So here we're going to give you all the scoop on our new local soft play centre.

It does appear little pricey at £8.50 per child and £2 per accompanying adult, but if there's one thing we've learnt during our time in business it's that people are happy to pay for quality.  All of these places are lovely when they're new, fingers crossed this play centre will keep the play equipment safe, up to date and clean.

Safari Adventure Soft Play Centre has created more than 60 jobs between management positions, chefs, supervisors, nursery staff and more.  At £14-50 per child it really is a very pricey option for birthday parties, but may just be worth a look or a wet Sunday afternoon?  Somewhere for the kids to run off some energy in safety?

David Moscow travels the world to discover deliciousness From Scratch

By cristine struble | feb 29, 2020.

David Moscow featured in the FYI show "From Scratch" photo provided by FYI

Have you wondered why some meals just taste better? David Moscow goes on a food adventure in the new show From Scratch and uncovers the secret to delicious food.

Sometimes the most memorable meals have a story behind them. David Moscow discovers the stories behind the food can and do create the most delicious dish. In the new television series, From Scratch , this culinary adventure can encourage foodies to explore the beauty of making food from scratch.

While the home kitchen holds a bounty of deliciousness, sometimes convenience overtakes cooking from scratch. When a cook takes the time to use quality ingredients, appreciate the craftsmanship and uncover the passion behind the ingredients, that meal can become more than just sustenance. It can become a gift.

In the new FYI series , From Scratch , David Moscow goes on a culinary journey. As he travels the world, David seeks to recreate a chef’s recipe. But, this show is more than just cooking. David explores the stories behind each of those ingredients. Through this culinary adventure, people see that food is intertwined with a country’s history and culture.

Many people might know David Moscow from his feature film debut in Big . Over the years he has numerous film, television and stage credits. Additionally he co-developed and co-produced the first stage production of In the Heights and has produced several films. In this new FYI show, he puts himself into the food world.

In the first ten episodes of From Scratch , David dives into a culinary world that many foodies would dream to discover. Even though more people are appreciating farm to table cuisine, David takes that approach to the source. From milking a cow to make butter to foraging for the perfect ingredient for a dish, the show proves that ingredients bring the story of food to the table.

David Moscow

Recently, David Moscow graciously answered some questions about his new show, From Scratch . While some people may not have the opportunity to go on this extraordinary culinary adventure, the lessons learned from his experience can be brought to any home cook’s table.

Cristine Struble: Many Americans are focused on convenient food (or delivery, grab & go), how can your show get people to discover the deeper connection that food can bring a person?

David Moscow: While sourcing ingredients is definitely hard and hard to find time for in our demanding days/schedules, it also can be quite fun and sometimes even exciting. These thrills are present all across the season. But they also sit right up alongside the simple pleasures of wandering in the woods looking for mushrooms or fishing on a river under a midnight sun. The hope is that our show will shake that love of nature and the joy that come with work particularly when it ends in a pizza pie.

CS: There is a growing movement to know your farmer or know where food comes from – do you think that people are understanding that where food comes from impacts the how food tastes?

DM: There are a couple oppositional things happening at once. At the same time that a few people are able to take the time and money to know where our food is coming from, the majority are becoming even more removed through delivery apps and the growth of fast food. Thoughtless eating has never been such a problem. BUT we are only a generation or two away from a healthy interaction with the food we eat. And I do think that all people still pine for making fresh food and eating it with friends around – something that is innately part of being human.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by fyi, tv (@fyi)

CS: As you traveled the world, did you find that food traditions are stronger in some countries?

DM: I found that there was a direct relationship with free time, a social safety net and strong food traditions. Places like Iceland, Sardinia and Finland have little fast food and place great importance in the people who harvest and source the meals they eat. Some of the other places are fighting to keep their traditions alive in the face of the cheap fast food everywhere in modern life.

CS: While many people think that global cuisines are very different, there are often some underlying similarities. What similarities surprised you the most?

DM: When building the episodes for the show, we found that there aren’t that many major ingredients across the planet. A huge chunk of what we eat are grass, seeds, fish and few other animals. And we eat these things with the help of fire or fermentation. Cooking meat on a grill and making alcohol out of fermenting food is everywhere.

CS: This show seems to encourage people to better understand the food and culture connection. What’s one easy way to start that type of food conversation on the typical family home?

DM: I think apple picking (or any kind of fruit picking) as a family outing is an amazing starting point. It gets you out in the fresh air and gets your blood flowing – and I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t like a crisp apple pulled from a tree. During the shoot I sat my son down in a strawberry patch to graze before he could walk. The act of picking and eating with his own hands has had a lasting effect. Strawberry was one of his first words and still to today is his favorite fruit to eat.

CS: You travel the world in this series. Which location was your favorite? Which meal was your favorite?

DM: Each one of the places I went was a spot I had dreamed of going and each has a special place in my heart. How can I compare going on a safari in South Africa vs taking a boat off the Amalfi coast. I would say the same with the food. I had the best pizza on the planet and the best tacos. I had incredible Icelandic seafood and Finnish lake fish. They each stand alone.

If you would like to follow along with David Moscow’s culinary adventure, From Scratch airs on FYI and can be streamed online. New episodes air on Sundays at 6 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. CT.

Play review; 'Retreat from Moscow'

Published 12:00 am Saturday, August 4, 2012

By Staff Report

By Katie Scarvey [email protected]

As I was attended the opening of “The Retreat from Moscow,” I thought about that famous Tolstoy line: “Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” I wonder if you could replace “family” with “marriage”? Produced by the St. Thomas Players and directed by Justin Dionne, “The Retreat from Moscow,” is about a 33-year marriage that has imploded. The play deftly explores what happens when one partner has emotionally checked out of a marriage while the other partner fights tooth and nail to hang on to it. Playing Alice is the brilliant Claudia Galup, who manages to come across as both charming and infuriating. In the first act, you’ll cringe as Alice verbally bludgeons Edward, turning the simplest conversational gambit into a skirmish. Edward can’t even ask his wife how her day was without being attacked: “I wish you wouldn’t talk to me like that.” Kurt Corriher is superb as the beleaguered Edward, who wants a simpler, “sunnier” existence than the one he has with Alice. Solid tea-drinking Englishman that he is, he’s tried to keep calm and carry on even as Alice has turned into a raging harpy. It becomes clear that Alice’s aggression toward Edward comes from a deep well of unhappiness. Alice feels ignored and invisible and senses her husband’s emotional retreat. She wants a reaction. She wants Edward to express an authentic emotion. Edward tries to protect himself from her as much as possible, which of course makes things worse. He longs to be able to do his beloved puzzles in peace — crosswords instead of cross words. Edward finally musters up the courage to leave Alice — for a woman named Angela, who has made him realize how lost he’s been to himself: “Me is who I am when I’m with Angela,” he says. Still, he can remember a time when Alice dazzled him with her poetry and her very presence, “like a brilliant light.” Much of the play is concerned with Edward’s feelings of survivor guilt. A history teacher, Edward is reading “The Retreat from Moscow,” which deals with Napoleon’s ill-fated invasion. It causes him to reflect on survival, and how one person’s survival sometimes means that another, weaker person must perish. The play also explores Alice’s anguish over losing her marriage. She is by turns desperate, manipulative, wallowing, furious, suicidal. It is heartbreaking and excruciating to see her debase herself before Edward, with no hope of winning him back: “I’ll be a good girl,” she begs. Galup nails this and every scene she’s in. She is “a left woman,” she tells adult son Jamie, played by Jacob Asher, musing on how it would have been so much easier if Edward had died rather than divorced her. In a whimsical flourish, she buys a dog and calls him Edward, teaching him to “stay,” but later commanding him to play dead by saying, “die, Eddie, die!” Which points to something important about the play. While there are moments that capture profound pain, there is plenty of humor as well. As the son caught in an impossible situation, Jamie has his own issues to deal with. His unhappiness in love is hinted at, and his interest in his mother’s survival goes beyond simple concern for her welfare. How Alice rebounds — or doesn’t — could determine whether he will attempt to “last it out.” Jamie’s most trenchant observation is when he tells his father that if he blames him for anything, it’s for being dishonest: “You went on pretending and pretending and one day you left.” I can only imagine the satisfaction Justin Dionne must have had in directing such a talented trio of actors. Corriher and Galup are masterful. And Asher captures well the particular hell of a son trying to remain neutral with both sides vying for his allegiance. My only quibble with this excellent play is the ending as written by Nicholson. Galup’s final words were — for me — spot-on perfect. I so wanted them to be ringing in my ears on the way out of the theater. But the spotlight then moved to Jamie, who gave a speech that smacked of writerly self-indulgence. While Nicholson might identify most with Jamie, it’s really not about him, after all. “The Retreat from Moscow” continues with performances at 7:30 tonight and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. (That matinee performance offers buy-one-get-one free tickets.) Regular tickets are $15. Performances continue at Aug. 9-11 at 7:30 p.m. On Friday, Aug. 10 there will be a talk-back with the actors and director immediately following the performance.
