Voyage d’Hermès Parfum Fragrance Review: A Spicy Unisex Cardamom Cologne For Men & Women

Voyage d'Hermès Flacon & Packaging Old Wall

Being absolutely infatuated by Terre d’Hermès , I was keen to see what else the historical French house had to offer. When I discovered that Voyage d’Hermès was a unisex fragrance that I could share with my wife, I was excited to give it a try.

After having used Voyage d’Hermès for a number of months, it was time to give it a full review using the  Fragrance Formula  to see how it fares.

In this review, you will discover Voyage d’Hermès where we explore the following subjects:

  • Fragrance Overview
  • Blend & Fragrance Strength
  • Tested 3rd Party Feedback
  • When To Wear The Cologne
  • Presentation & Value

You can use the links above to jump ahead or just scroll down to read it all!

Following the success of the 2010 eau de toilette of the same name, Hermès released the parfum edition in 2012. Also created by the in-house nose, Jean-Claude Ellena, the parfum promises an enriched experience with a composition of citrusy aromas, spicy blends as well as herbaceous green notes and precious wood.

Voyage d’Hermès Composition

With a rich floral heart over a woody and musk base, Voyage d’Hermès is a proud member of the Woody Floral Musk olfactive sub-family.

Heart Notes

As the citrus and pepper notes fade, we’re revealed a floral bouquet featured rose, juniper and sweet jasmine. The juniper adds an almost herbaceous note reminiscent of cedar yet the cardamom continues to persist throughout the heart.

Voyage’s Life-Cycle, Wake & Strength

Although deep and heady, Voyage is far from overpowering. The notes cycle through their dry-down with a few transitional notes extending others along the way. As mentioned above, the cardamom is really what makes this fragrance sing and is omnipresent throughout its lifespan.

Although the projection and sillage are both quite tight and stay relatively close to the skin, the longevity is impressive. Although you may want to re-apply after a couple of hours, the fragrance’s performance keeps on giving well after its application.

What Do People Think Of Voyage d’Hermès?

Voyage d'Hermès Flacon French Garden

Others also enjoyed the bouquet of spices and woody notes but since the cardamom is firmly fixed in the limelight, it’s the one that receives all the glory. Of course, if you don’t let the smell of cardamom, this isn’t a fragrance that you’ll enjoy!

Being a very deep and sensual fragrance, it was better received by more mature people from their thirties and above. However, it’s a very contemporary if classy blend. Conversely, it came across as a little too prominent for younger people. Nevertheless, it’s a fragrance that both men and women find attractive and this universality is probably the secret to its success.

When To Wear Voyage d’Hermès

Both the time of day and season play large roles in when to successfully wear this fragrance. Firstly, its cardamom and spices aren’t something that you’d wear for winter despite being deep and sensual. In fact, it fares far better during the late spring and summer.

Voyage d'Hermès Closed Flacon

However, it’s probably too heavy and musky for a summer’s day. Instead, it’s the perfect companion for balmy summer nights. Thanks to its paradoxical fresh and warm notes, it complements the heat and offers something that is both unique an alluring.

As for the age range, it’s perfectly wearable for anyone in their late twenties but is probably more suitable for someone who is established. Therefore, it’s a great fragrance for those in their thirties, forties or above.

In terms of occasion, it can be quite versatile. As much as it’s a respectable office fragrance that isn’t overpowering for small workplaces, it’s best reserved for the nighttime. Therefore, whether you’re just going out, staying casual or enjoying your evening, it’s a wonderful companion. We’d even suggest it as a unique alternative for dating!

Finally, Voyage d’Hermès is a strange beast when it comes to the masculine. On paper, its notes are rather masculine and sound like something best worn by men. However, it’s very much a unisex fragrance that can be bought by anyone or even shared by a couple.

Presentation and Value For Money

Voyage d'Hermès Flacon & Packaging On Wall

Nevertheless, it’s visually appealing and looks great when positioned at an angle on your shelf. The parfum distinguishes itself from the eau de toilette by being made from black glass rather than white, which looks almost midnight blue under the light.

Furthermore, there’s no bottle cap and the atomiser can be unscrewed for refilling. Once you’ve run out, there’s no need to buy another bottle but a plain refill, which is slightly cheaper. Speaking of the atomiser, it performs well and provides a burst of thick mist. It’s solid and well-made so doesn’t squirt out like a water gun.

Meanwhile, the packaging is very attractive too. The cardboard features a herringbone texture on the front, top and back with beige sides. An embossed stripe wraps around the cardboard to look like a ribbon whilst “Voyage d’Hermès” is elegantly written in silver text with underscores.

As for the value for money, know that Voyage d’Hermès is a particularly expensive and premium fragrance. Retailing well above $100 for 3.4 Oz (100 ml), it’s quite the investment. However, being an original and well-performing fragrance, it’s worth taking the plunge.

However, you can pick up it for less on Amazon where it’s sold for only $80 . Meanwhile, you can pick it up for $77 through FragranceX !

Closing Thoughts

A very contemporary yet timeless fragrance, Voyage d’Hermès is a unique and tantalising experience. Its spicy and woody themes beautifully showcase the vivid cardamom note, which is unforgettable.

If you’re looking for something that performs well to wear on those summer nights, this is an excellent pick. Furthermore, it’s one that you can share with your partner if she or her has taken a liking to it too!

"A potential contemporary classic. Unique and breathtaking fragrance, its spicy and woody accords are intoxicating with a hearty cardamom theme."

I love the sound of this frag. How would you rate it for dating and night life?

' src=

It depends what you mean by “night life”. I think it’s too subtle for night clubs and would quickly become drowned out by other smells. However, it’s a great choice for dating and offers a unique alternative scent for romantic occasions.

All the best,

Hello Carlos, Well, don’t know where to start with, but, went to the nearby mall at my home city (Mumbai, India) looking for something similar on the lines of Davidoff’s CoolWater (DCW) as this one has been my absolute favorite for office wear. I am no enthusiast in terms of EDTs and/or EDPs but started my journey in the world of one’s ownself (care) when 4 years back I was gifted a CalvinKlein CK In2U EDT by one of my friend as a birthday gift and from there on, this journey of self admiration started to say the least (pun intended). CK in2U opened the floodgates towards Davidoff’s CoolWater (as Both of them are Fresh/Aqua based EDTs and after more than a couple of years of trying CK in2U, Davidoff’s CoolWater, Nautica’s Blue (all Fresh/Aqua based) I went on the same tram lines to search for something similar (after reading what similar EDT notes would criss-cross with DCW), Had Bvlgari’s Aqva, Atlantiqve and Marine in mind and then my senses were blown away by a somewhat pricer option that the salesman suggested me to give a try and it was this gem: (not the Parfum version) but the EDT Voyage De’Hermes and it sure did take me on a Voyage De’Cardamom the moment that mist spray touched me. I told him, give me ¾th of an hour and if this EDT matures, beyond Cardamom, you will surely have a new customer (me). And yes, it did marure and I am a proud owner of this, today… 6th March,2021.

That’s a fantastic story, thanks for sharing it!

I love cardamom and oud so this sounds perfect for me! Funny, though, the notes sound more like a winter fragrance rather than something for the summer…

Hi Alex, Yes, the agarwood base features a light oud note but as it’s not particularly heavy, it’s quite refreshing. Although this is great for a winter’s day, it’s even better for a summer’s night! I was surprised too but I’ve owned it since Christmas and I’ve been impressed by its performance in the evening heat. Best, CP

This sounds like a great fragrance to share with the missus!

It is and I keep a bottle on her dresser that we both use!

' src=

Sure ,they have something secret in formula on this fragrance. Very nice fragrance but also expensive.

Most perfumers are very secretive about their actual formulae so yes, that’s very true. It’s true that it’s also somewhat pricey but it’s such a great fragrance that I’d argue that it’s worth it!

Hi Charles Philippe. How are you? I like the Edt version more. What can you say about the edt. Which one do you like the most?

Hi Shakhruh, I’m well, thanks. I hope that you are, too.

That’s interesting! I have a preference for the Parfum. I haven’t compared the two in a while but I recall the EDT being much lighter.

Thank you so much for your feedback. If you have money it’s good to have both.Edp is good in the evening, Edt is good in the daytime. Try Edt again, definitely in a smaller view. Can you tell me? have both been reformed over the years?

I’ll bear that in mind and give them both another try! I’m afraid that I don’t know whether it’s been reformulated or not, though.

Never mind. Thank you for that, my friend????????

Sorry that I couldn’t be of more help!

Hi Charles Philippe.Sorry to bother you again.I will never buy perfume from Amazon.com anymore.I saw and bought Voyage Edt at a much cheaper price from amazon.I was looking forward to my favorite perfume. He came I opened it and the smell was completely different. It doesn’t look like the original at all and doesn’t last long. I’ve also read negative reviews of other perfumes. They’ve also written fake ones. Even Voyage D’hermes Parfum. My advice to you is to buy a real original Voyage D’hermes Parfum from Hermes.com, Hermes stores or Sephora. Believe me, you will feel the real difference. Voyage perfume on Hermes.com is $ 155, on Hermes.fr 122 €

Oh, that’s terrible! We quite like FragranceX, which we’ve used many times and delivers the real thing. However, we also add Amazon links as you expect it to be trustworthy! Sorry to hear that you received an inauthentic Hermes!

A Magazine for Those With a Passion to Travel in Style

Moscow: An Honest Review of this Amazing City

“ You’re going to Russia?!?! Why? ” I heard these words pretty much every time I announced my upcoming trip to the east.

This reaction is understandable. Most people in Europe and the United States have a Putin-provoked distaste of the Russian Federation, which is growing by the day. Politicians claim that Russia’s sole mission is to diminish and undermine western powers to strengthen its own. After all, the name Vladimir comes from two old Slavic words, which together mean “great ruler of the world.” Make of that what you will…

Even the non-political vision of Russia is unfavorable. Most think of a cold, grey, backward place with Soviet architecture or battle-hardened, weather-beaten people. However, arriving at the sleek Moscow Domodedovo airport, I was impressed. I had been right to rebut popular notions of an unwelcoming and stony place.

However, almost immediately after leaving the airport, the ground for my righteous vindication became shaky. Driving into the outskirts of Moscow, my mind drew comparisons to television images of North Korean suburbs. Miles of uniform houses and bleak tower blocks lined the roads.

At the Izmailovov Delta Hotel next to the famous market of the same name, things were not looking much better. Truly peculiar decorations and violently colored walls competed for one’s gaze in the hotel lobby. Luckily, the rooms themselves were perfectly comfortable, though not particularly noteworthy. I’d stay central next time.

After dropping bags, I ventured toward the Izmailovov market for a look at how the locals live. From a distance, the buildings that encase the market are vivid, intricate and quite something to behold. As it was late in the day, the market was empty. Shop shutters were closed and stalls were folded up. I got the same uneasy feeling I get when walking through Disney Land – as if this was what remained after the recent collapse of a utopian society.

While nearly all the vendors had packed up and gone home, a few stalls remained opened for business. All that was left was an abundance of satirical matryoshka dolls containing various countries’ political leaders in historical order.

A tattooed burly salesman came over to me as I withdrew François Mitterrand from the wooden bowels of Valéry Giscard d’Estaing.

“ Where are you from, friend? ” He asked.

Ignoring my response, he launched into a speech about his armed forces days and the political situation in Russia.

“ You really ought not to trust the government, ok? Putin is a dangerous man, you see. Someone’s always watching in this city. ”

The whiff of Glühwein that carried with each sentence made me doubt the erudition of his analysis. Then again… this is what we hear in the news. I was not sure what to believe. After thanking the man and hastily filling Charles de Gaulle with the rest of the presidents of the Fifth Republic, I made my way back to the hotel.

Emerging from the underground we rounded the corner and immediately found ourselves in Red Square. The sight demands you stop and stare.

The insurmountable walls of the Kremlin line the length of one side; halfway along lies Lenin’s tomb and opposite is the lavish exterior of the Gosudarstvennyi Universalnyi Magazin shopping center (or GUM, as it’s referred to, thank God). The architectural marvel of Saint Basil’s Cathedral stands at the south end, with the State History Museum at the other. Even though the foreboding structures radiate a rouge pastel hue into every corner of the square, there is a sense of openness. No-doubt there was a somewhat different atmosphere when thousands of Soviet soldiers goose-stepped through the square. Interestingly, the Russian army still marches like this today.

Walking around central Moscow, history oozes from every spire and pillar. Buildings seem to lean over as you walk past, as if peering down on whoever dares to enter these austere places. For every moment or event in Russian history, there is a dedicated museum.

The quality of each museum is notably high. In particular, the Armory inside the Kremlin holds astonishing collections of royal carriages from across the world and throughout the ages. The world-renowned Fabergé Eggs are displayed here too.

Having wandered around for so long during the day, we had no time to eat before attending the Ballet that evening. Sitting in the Bolshoi, the long day began to catch up with me.

It is now that I must make a confession: while attending a performance by one of the world’s greatest ballet companies, I fell asleep.

Thankfully, I woke up later in the second half and was treated to the final leaps and prances of Shostakovich’s The Bright Stream. As someone who is not a ballet aficionado, that was probably enough.

Feeling significantly perkier afterward, a late dinner was in order. Just behind the Bolshoi is VOGUE Café , a gastronomic outpost of the famous magazine. It claimed to serve an eclectic mix of Japanese, Italian and Russian dishes. Intrigued, we entered.

Adventurously, we accepted the offer of some Russian wine. Full bodied and berried, it was delicious. Our evident surprise led the waitress to explain that Russian food and drink has improved hugely over the last few years. As it turns out, since the United States and the European Union placed sanctions on Russia after their annexation of Crimea, food imports have been scarce. As a result, Russian producers have been forced to meet the demand and quality expected today. As a result, Siberian wines and cheeses now win awards around the globe.

When we left the restaurant, it was late. Only a day had passed, yet we had filled every minute with history, culture and food. The next three days followed a similar format and we continued to make our way down the list of museums and sights. A boat ride along the river is a must-do for alternative views of the Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Afterwards, sit on the rooftop Strelka bar opposite the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and watch the 3-mile-long line of pilgrims move slowly forward.

On the third day, we were due to board an overnight train to Saint Petersburg, but there was still so much left to do. Truth be told, it was probably too much for another three days, let alone one.

Nonetheless, I was satisfied. Moscow had revealed itself to be a fascinating and impressive city. While the city infrastructure isn’t as up-to-date as most capitals, the needs of every modern traveler can be met. It certainly isn’t the cold and unfriendly place envisioned by most in the west. Moscow’s winning attribute is its omnipresent sense of untouched history. This is a feature that is so often lost amongst hordes of tourists in Europe’s capitals.

It goes to show: what we hear about places we haven’t been in the news or through general hearsay, we can formulate pretty strong prejudices in our mind. While the political realities may still be ugly, by visiting, you can learn to separate and appreciate the everyday, the culture and the history of a place. On one side of a great red wall in central Moscow, a tyrannical leader works. On the other side, wholly separated, lies a magnificent Red Square where an overwhelming sense of history reveals the essence of Moscow and of Russia. And it is truly remarkable.

voyage d'hermes deodorant stick review

Cigar Review | Moscow City w/ Moscow Mule

Before Hammer + Sickle got into the cigar business they were in the spirits business. Hammer + Sickle Vodka begins their process in the Black Earth region of central Russia where arctic temperatures produce an excellent crop. Every spring the wheat is harvested and shipped to their distillery in Klin where small batches of ultra smooth vodka are created.

With the addition of Ginger Beer with lime to their arsenal the ingredients for a Moscow Mule are readily available and the cigar we are going to pair it with today is the home of the Moscow Mule, Moscow City .

Best served chilled in a copper mug, Eric Hanson of Hammer + Sickle stopped by 2 Guys Smoke Shop to take us through the process.

The Look:  The Moscow City features an oily looking Connecticut Broadleaf that is seamlessly rolled with some significant tooth. The slightly oversized red band, with silver foil denotes the brand Hammer + Sickle, and the line Moscow City. Firm in hand, the foot is slightly porous with a nice weight.

The Notes:  The cold draw of the Moscow City reminds me a lot of a Henkle Kelner blended cigar with barnyard notes of hay and grass. The foot serves up notes of hay and wheat.

Once the cigar is lit the primary focal point of the cigar is dark earth and a slight sweetness. Once you sip the Moscow Mule with the Moscow City the cigar changes becoming sweet, and refreshing like the drink itself. The nose the cigar has a slight pepper note.

In the second third of the cigar, the Moscow City begins to take on a dark chocolate note that screams Connecticut Broadleaf and there is still a base note of earth, specifically wheat which works well with the Moscow Mule. As the second third comes to a close the chocolate notes dazzle the palate and I pour myself another Moscow Mule> Through the nose the cigar takes on a citrus like note bordering on lime.

The last third of the Moscow City from Hammer + Sickle becomes one with the Moscow Mule, the Ginger Beer and Lime goes puff and pour creating an enjoyable experience with a subtle pepper through the nose.

The Burn:  A slow burning cigar, the Moscow City has a thin carbon line with light color firm ash. The draw offers a subtle resistance and burns very cool. The cigar from Hammer + Sickle remained lit from first light to last puff.

The Finish:  Pairing is often a difficult as finding a cigar to compliment the components of a drink isn’t as easy at seems. The Moscow Mule helps bring out the earthy components in the first half and helps enhance the sweetness of the second half. The best thing about the Moscow City is the cigar smokes like an exceptional Broadleaf even on its own and has become my go to cigar for Broadleaf at the time of this posting.
