Father Christmas will captivate little ears with the story of the first Christmas. Children will then be able to help our elves make some reindeer food and receive a small gift to take home and enjoy. Meet Santa at Thornbridge Hall & Gardens

If you have read our review of Thornbridge Gardens, you will know we are huge fans. So, I have got some fantastic news to kickstart your festive season! The Christmas Market & Underground Santa’s Grotto is happening on the 17th-19th and 24th-26th of November. This year, it will be even bigger and better, spanning two weekends! Get ready to discover an array of local makers and businesses at the Carriage House. It’s the perfect opportunity to support our local heroes, get some Christmas shopping done, and, of course, treat yourself to a cheeky mulled wine and a mince pie or two!

Meet Father Christmas over a cooked breakfast. Longshaw Cafe is one of Father Christmas’s regular cafes in the Peak District, often popping by with presents for the children he meets here. Father Christmas is taking time off to welcome you to his secret workshop at Torr Vale Mill. Children and families can discover magical secrets and the true spirit of Christmas. All children will take home a special gift, and adults can enjoy a free hot drink at the onsite bar – Torr Vale Tap!

As the holiday season draws near, I can’t help but get excited about all the enchanting festivities that await us. From the heartwarming visits with Mrs. Claus to the awe-inspiring sight of real reindeer, every moment at these special events promises pure magic with the children. The bustling marketplaces, adorned with twinkling lights and festive decorations, offer a wide range of treasures, making it the perfect place to find that special present.

And let’s remember the ultimate Christmas experience of meeting Father Christmas himself, a memory that will surely be treasured forever. The Chatsworth Christmas Market, a favourite spot of mine, exudes a festive atmosphere like no other, and the bag of magical reindeer food is the perfect touch. It’s a complete yearly sell-out, so securing your ticket in time is crucial. With limited slots available, this is one event you will want to attend. Thornbridge Gardens is also a favourite, and we hope for the first time to get ourselves booked on the Santa Express.

Each year, thousands of children across Derbyshire eagerly anticipate catching a glimpse of Santa Claus . With his iconic red suit and fluffy white beard, there's much to love, and that's before we get to his gift-giving ways.

This time, you and your little ones don't have to travel too far to meet Santa, Mrs Claus and all their helpers as there are plenty of great grottos in Derbyshire to try out. At Derbyshire Live, we understand that this Christmas will be financially tougher than usual, but if you are still thinking about taking a trip to a grotto this year, we've put a list together.

Santa's grotto in Derby's Cathedral Quarter

Where? Sadler Gate, Derby city centre

When? between 10am and 4pm on three Saturdays in December, the 3rd, 10th and 17th

Cost? Free - ticketed event is now fully subscribed, but families are still welcome to queue up to see Santa

Families shopping in Derby city centre this December will be able to pay Father Christmas a visit ahead of the big day. Children can visit the free Santa’s grotto in the Cathedral Quarter this festive season.

Based on Sadler Gate, the grotto will be open between 10am and 4pm on three Saturdays in December, the 3rd, 10th and 17th. Although the ticketed event is now fully subscribed, families are still welcome to queue up to see Santa if they haven’t booked.

The Derby Santa Experience 2022:

Where? Denby Pottery Village, Derby Road Denby DE5 8NX

When? Dates from November 26 to December 23

Cost? From £16.50 per child. Accompanying adults free. Book here

Denby Pottery Village is offering kids the opportunity to meet Sant and receive an official and personalised elf observation report. Children can also hand-pick their own gift from Santa’s Workshop and join in with the festive games in the Denby gardens.

Parents can also personalise their child's experience at the checkout to include their name, age and home town as well as any special dates or requests. Hot chocolates and cookies for the day can be purchased with tickets for an additional cost.

Chesterfield Santa's Grotto

Where? Market Hall, Chesterfield

When? November 20 onwards on selected dates

Cost? £6.50 per child including a present. Tickets are available to book online , at the Visitor Information Centre (Rykneld Square, Chesterfield S40 1SB) or over the phone (01246 345777).

Santa will be welcoming visitors into his Chesterfield grotto next month. Children will be allocated a 30-minute session and they will then be able to meet Santa on a first come first serve basis within that slot.

Relaxed sessions, which have been adapted for children with learning disabilities or sensory and communication disorders will also be available. There will be no flashing lights and these sessions will be extended to reduce anxiety for children.

Relaxed sessions will take place on December 3, 11 and 18. Booking for this event is essential.

Councillor Kate Sarvent, the cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said: “It’s great news the grotto is back in town for residents and visitors to enjoy. We are hosting the grotto on the balcony of the Market Hall, for the first time in three years and I know it has been missed by many local people."

Driftwood Land

Where? Driftwood Lodges Luxury Glamping, Dale Abbey

When? From November 26, 2022

Cost? £15 for children & £2.50 for adults. Ticket-only event.

The event offers children the chance to meet Santa in a luxury setting. Kids will pick a magic key with a soft toy out of the treasure chest, then make their own way through the woods to see the gingerbread characters and make reindeer food to take home.

This year, organisers have taken the decision not to have a professional photographer. This is to keep the cost down for families and allow them to take their own unlimited pictures at the venue.

Its creator Carl Insley said: "I have designed and created every room to make them as Christmassy as I can. It has taken me months and months to source and buy all the furniture, make props and give the site the biggest Christmas makeover ever

“I knew I could make a really spectacular Christmas experience for families and I am thrilled with it. I wanted to make the event affordable for families so I have kept ticket prices low. For me, it’s about putting a smile on people’s faces this Christmas and creating something magical.”

This Santa's grotto experience offers kids the chance to write a letter to Santa with the help of one of his kind elves, before heading off the meet Mrs Claus and her husband to receive a gift.

Separate farm park entry tickets are required with Santa's Grotto ticket. A gift is only provided to those with Santa's grotto ticket. For under 2s requiring a gift, a Santa's Grotto ticket must be purchased, but farm entry is free.

An audience with Santa at Bolsover Castle

Where? Bolsover Castle, Castle St, Bolsover, Chesterfield S44 6PR

When? November 26 to December 18 (weekends only)

Cost? £14.20 for adults and £8.50 for children. Under 5s go free for castle entry plus an additional fee of £8 to meet Santa. Book here .

Bolsover Castle is offering children the chance to meet Santa Claus and receive a small present in a picturesque and magical setting this festive season.

The castle is a popular tourist spot with those in Derbyshire and from further afield. The building will be decked in Christmas decorations over the coming months to help get visitors in the festive spirit.

The House is spectacularly dressed for the season (read about the 2023 theme here) , as is the garden.
