5 reasons to try 100% Aventura: The best Costa Rica canopy tour

You can’t go to the rainforest without experiencing a Costa Rica canopy tour. This country has arguably the best ziplines in the world and we found the best one of them all. It’s called 100% Aventura Canopy Tour in Monteverde. Here’s why it’s so amazing and how you can do it too.

Costa Rica canopy tour

I’ve been on a lot of ziplines and canopy tours in the United States and Mexico, but this one definitely takes the cake. It’s one of the most breathtaking and spectacular tourist attractions in the world. And I’m not getting paid to say this either. I am just a satisfied customer. Here’s five reasons why you should try it as well.

#1: It’s super safe

Since I was doing this canopy tour with my 12-, 9- and 8-year-old, I wanted to make sure it was safe. This company has a large staff of fully trained experts who help you every step of the way. At the beginning, they give you a brief lesson on how to use the equipment. Then, they check and double check all of our safety gear on every single zipline. They have a reputation for excellence in safety. I didn’t feel unsafe at all for the entirety of the tour.

#2: Transportation is included

The morning of our canopy tour, someone from the tour company came to our hotel in a big bus and picked us up. Talk about front door service. They dropped us off right in front of the building and then they took us right back to our hotel after we were done. It was awesome. That was one less thing I had to worry about.

#3: One zipline is a mile long!

Yes, you heard me right. On this particular zipline, you can ride it Superman Style. That means exactly what it sounds like. You are flying over the rainforest head first, arms and legs stretched out, just like Superman. This zipline is so long that you can’t see the other end and you are way above the trees. It is one of the most spectacular things I have ever experienced. But don’t worry, you don’t have to do it Superman Style if you don’t want to.

Costa Rica canopy tour

#4: Tour includes more than just ziplines (think Tarzan)

Aside from the two superman ziplines and 9 regular ziplines, there’s a hammock bridge, rappel and a 130-foot Tarzan Swing! I’m not going to lie, the Tarzan Swing was the scariest thing that I have ever done. Considering this was one of the more expensive tours we went on in Costa Rica, I felt like we definitely got our money’s worth.

Costa Rica canopy tour

The rappel and the hammock bridge were right at the beginning. The rappel was fairly easy, it was just being lowered down about 30 feet off a ledge. The hammock bridge had little slats of wood that you had to walk on to get across. It added variety to the tour and my kids liked it a lot.

#5: They cater to kids

During our Costa Rica canopy tour, my two younger kids were nervous about going on the zipline Superman Style. The workers were so responsive to their needs. They didn’t force my kids to do anything they weren’t comfortable with. Eventually, one of the workers went down with my son. He was happy and so was I. They also had my kids go down a couple of ziplines tandem-style to ensure they made it across safely without getting stuck in the middle. It was great.

Zipline tips and tricks

  • Passports : Bring you and your kids’ passports or a picture of them. They require it in order to participate.
  • Lockers : You can put all of your belongings in a locker before you begin.
  • Book ahead: You’ll want to reserve your tour online to ensure you’ll get a spot. This is a popular canopy tour.
  • Bug spray : You will be walking through a few trails in the forest. We put on plenty of bug spray just in case
  • Go Pro : I really wish that I would have brought a GoPro to get some footage while on the zipline. It’s impossible to hold your phone and go down the zipline at the same time because you need both hands. They also have attachments on each helmet so you can hook your GoPro on it.
  • Phone pouch : If your phone falls down into the forest, it’s gone. That’s why I love these phone holders. You can still take pictures without taking it out of the pouch.
  • Food: You can’t bring any food onto the canopy tour, so eat before you come.
  • Rain jacket : It rains a lot in Monteverde (it is a cloud forest). You can bring a jacket just in case.

I hope you have an amazing trip to Costa Rica and lots of fun on this canopy tour. I know you’ll love it just as much as we did. Leave your comments below. I’d love to hear from you.

100% Aventura: 2 Km Ziplines, 45 Meter Tarzan Swing and More Fun

August 28, 2017 By Sammi 15 Comments

Want to go ziplining? What about 100% Aventura? It’s a lot of fun! Guido asked Yeison and I. Guido, the manager of Hotel Poco a Poco was trying to help us decide what activity to do for our last day in Monteverde. I looked at Yeison and said sure why not? We’ve seen their shuttles around Monteverde and Santa Elena before, with big letters on the side boldly stating “Longest zipline in Latin America!”

Since we normally take these statements with a grain of salt (it seems every canopy tour in Costa Rica claims to have the longest zipline), we didn’t think about it too much, assuming it was like the other ziplines in Monteverde we’ve done.

Boy were we wrong!

100% Aventura’s canopy tour truly lives up to its name with an action packed, adrenaline filled zipline that will leave you breathless and in awe by the end.

100% Aventura Zipline

The canopy tour started off nice and easy, like most others. The first couple cables were short and sweet, giving people particularly first timers the feel for ziplining and enough time to get comfortable. Around the 5th or 6th platform, we did a short rappel which led us to the 7th cable, the start of the long ziplines.

The cables are so much longer and faster than the first ones that they had to put up a sign warning visitors that this is their last chance to turn back (the canopy tour is sectioned off so in case you find yourself not able to continue, you can step down and walk back to the headquarters).

100 Aventura Monteverde Zipline

But the last two ziplines are hands down, the best and most fun we’ve done. If you’ve ever gone ziplining, you’ll notice that after you do a few cables in the normal sitting up right zipline position, you find yourself feeling like you want a little bit more.

This zipline tour gives you exactly that as you get to go superman style on the two longest cables meaning you are lying down, held up by two harnesses from your back. Appropriately named, as you feel like Superman flying through the sky!

Superman Ziplines

But before you go superman-ing over the forest, you have to get up to the platform by way of a buggy. Four of us climbed into the 4×4 and as soon as the door closed, our driver hit the gas and sped off into the forest on a very bumpy and overrun trail in the trees for about 5 minutes. He stopped abruptly, running out to open the door and quickly usher us to the trail. Doing things fast seemed to be the motto of the 100% Aventura zipline tour!

As we climbed up the platform, I could hear cries of glee coming from the people who were already soaring over the forest. I grinned excitedly, I couldn’t wait!

The first superman zipline is around 600 meters (1968.5 feet). Two people go at a time so the guide pushed me out first with Yeison following me close behind. The wind whipped around my face and my eyes widened, almost bugging out as I felt weightless, flying over the cloud forest with the sun shining brightly above me. I glanced wildly around me and laughed crazily. This was amazingggg! I cried out.

600 meters felt like forever and the last cable was even longer, around 1.5 kilometers! (4921 feet). 100% Aventura definitely designed their canopy tour with adrenaline in mind. The first 600 meter cable was long enough for people to get a taste and the 1.5 meter long superman cable was the cherry on top of the already fun zipline.

Check out the short video of us on the superman ziplines!

The tour certainly wasn’t over when we finished the zipline. We still had one more crazy adventure to go on before we could call it a day – the tarzan swing! The 100% Aventura tarzan swing height is a whopping 45 meters!

This is optional but I knew I couldn’t pass it up. I saw the platform on the 2nd superman zipline and the swing looked insane. I knew I had to do it!

100% Aventura Tarzan Swing

However, I underestimated 45 meters which is almost 150 feet or around 10 to 15 stories. (For reference, the Golden Gate Bridge is 250 feet). It doesn’t sound that tall but when I got up to the bridge, I balked. As I walked onto the platform, I clutched my harness tightly and took a slow deep breath. You can do this, Sam. You can do this. It’s just a little hop into the forest and that’s it. Nothing crazy, nothing life threatening.

After I said those words, I made the mistake of looking down. My knees buckled a little as I squinted down at the tiny trees that looked like broccoli from this height. OK maybe I still have time to turn back…

Vamos! T he guide yelled at me. Venga! He gave me a pointed look which I could see even being 30 feet away. Of course he’s impatient. He’s had to throw 20 of us off this bridge already and there were still 10 of us to go! There was nothing left to do at this point but to keep going forward. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, when else would I get to do something like this right?

I bundled up my courage and determinedly walked to the guides where they proceeded to clip, fasten, tie and pull the rope and my harness together. They were going so fast I could hardly tell when I was ready until he opened the little door and yelled Lista!

Wait! OK no ready? OK go! I hopped off the platform (or did he push me?) and immediately felt the wind knock out of me. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I’ll never forget the time I willingly jumped 150 feet down into the forest in Costa Rica. You can see the proof below!

When it comes to adrenaline filled ziplines, 100% Aventura in Monteverde wins by a long shot. Yeison and I have both gone ziplining in Costa Rica numerous times but none this high or fast. The views for 100% Aventura are not quite as nice as Sky Adventures or Selvatura Park (those are the only two actually over the cloud forest) but it’s definitely one of the best canopy tours in Monteverde.

100% Aventura also has hanging bridges, an ATV and horseback riding tour. You can book and make reservations for the tours on their website. They include transportation from Santa Elena in case you don’t have a car.

Beautiful area and a great time! Being able to Superman was a fun experience.

This was great. We enjoyed the views!

It was a bunch of activities and not just zipline

This exceeded expectations. Guides were friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. The transportation was on time. great experience. One of the trip highlights!

GREAT GUIDES SUPER ADVENTURES

Great, a couple guys mid zipline weren't very good at listening to customers requests and hurried along

Ziplineing was visually beautiful and exciting. The staff was kind and friendly.

Our shuttle didn't come as scheduled for our pick-up, but a call to the operator quickly dispatched a taxi that was able to get us to our activity in time.

At first it seemed to be a little crowded, but that quickly thinned out and we had an exhilarating experience.

This was an amazing tour full of fun and adventure. Guides were all knowledgeable and we felt very safe and secure at each ziplining station. It was great!

Another great excursion. Don't pass up the "Tarzan swing" at the end, its intense!

Did the Tarzan swing at the end - simply amazing. I could not believe the thrill of the Superman line!

The operation was very pleasantly and professionally run, and even though we were first-timers and it was windy, at no time did we feel unsafe.

This was probably one of our favorite experiences of the trip! We couldn't believe some of the things we were able to do especially the super long zipline and the Tarzan swing!

Staff made it exciting and although we were nervous made us feel that safety was the priority

For us this zip line experience was spot on. We saw the Selvatura one and personally we felt this one was better. Good choice from Jennifer.

Incredible fun

I had the time of my life!I had never zip lines before and the guides were lovely and helped to put me at ease!! Totally enjoyed the experience ?

An absolute blast!!!

Excellent tour. We appreciated getting picked up, even though we were staying right down the road. All the guides were helpful, friendly and encouraging. I haven't stopped talking about this Experience. We will be back..LOVED IT....

Wow! Very professional Staff! No problems here, They know their business and do it well! My wife asked for someone to go with here and they gave her Raphael. This made her comfortable and then I could enjoy the zip lines without worrying about her. Excellent!

AWESOME!!! Especially the Tarzan swing at the end!

The guides didn’t give my son a harness for the Superman ride saying he is too light, yet his weight is 123Lb. And the minimum they told me is 120lb. He ended up not doing it and that was disappointing. The guy didn’t even ask him Dor his weight.

This was the highlight for our kids. They loved every minute of this adventure. I’m happy to have survived it and can now say I have done it and never have to again:)). But it was amazing.

This was great fun for everyone, an amazing experience

Very crowded. Separated my husband and I into two different groups for about 30 minutes... did not like that. But great ziplines

Guides were good, but not great. Language barrier meant there was confusion at one station and the guide was clearly annoyed. Overall, a good thing, but not sure if we'd do it again.

Breathtaking and awesome!!!

The tour was fantastic. One of my best ones in Costa Rica.! It took a while to get set up and started but after that it was awesome!

Loved the whole experience

I have to admit wimping out at the last minute, but this was a favorite activity for the rest of the family.

This adventure also exceeded my expectations. The guides were knowledgeable and very safety conscious. I appreciated them checking my harness at each point. They were friendly and took care with some of us who were older! I'd do this again as well!!

This was a fantastic experience. The guy teaching the safety part was not very good. Hard to understand and easily bothered but once we were out there it was a blast and the care they gave my 10 & 13 year olds was great. Hooked the together and went with them on each line. That let the rest of us be able to enjoy and relax.

Super fun and bettter than what was expected

Amazing experience and the guides made it for us! It was raining and chilly, but we hardly noticed, it was so much fun.

This is amazing

Zip lining was great but the SUPERMAN was one of the best experiences of my life!!!! That and the waterfall rappelling are probably the 2 greatest things I have ever done!

LOVED this trip. Guides were excellent and they helped my visually impaired son participate fully. They were helpful and kind and arranged for us to use private ATV in one portion of the expedition that would have been too tricky for my son. 10/10 for this company!!!!

great experience

Overall one of our favorite adventures, went perfect. You might suggest to couples, not to do the Superman glide as we opted not to. They allowed us to slide hooked together on the longest Zip line in Latin America leg locked together. Very special and many other couples were jealous. Great experience...

AMAZING!! Nine cables, the last two are "Superman style." SO much fun! Only disappointment: the photos wouldn't be ready for another hour after we were ready to leave. No way to get them emailed. But don't let that stop you; you MUST do this!

This was only bettered by the white water rafting - the experience was incredible, and great value for money. The only criticism on the logistics side of things was that a transfer departed literally whilst we were queueing for our photos and the company wouldn't hold it for everyone to finish collected their discs. We asked if we could share a cab with other guests instead but this was frowned upon, so we had to wait another 30/40 minutes for another transfer to arrive.

Great experience. The staff were very safety conscious.

Great experience, even for our 8 yr old. Felt very safe and had a ton of fun!

Zip lining was scary. I know it was just my head. Not a big fan of heights and this was way way high. thrilling for sure. I was terrified on the superman run. but very safe. guides were great.

The tour definitely met our expectations, we're glad we did it, and we would recommend it to others. At times the tour felt rushed as went from tree to tree so I can't imagine what's it's like during the dry season. However, overall, it was a positive experience.

Another highlight. Great day even though it rained. Guides were great as was the park.

We loved the experience! The guides were superb, the equipment was excellent! We always felt safe and well cared for. The ziplines were an incredible view and the superman option was definitely worth it! I don't do heights well, but the way it is handled here, you gradually get more comfortable! I would do this again, and would recommend this group highly. If you are really brave the "Tarzan fall" at the end is really fun!

My only regret was that I did the superman for the last few zip lines. When they asked me if I wanted to I said yes but I found it very hard to see anything except straight down. Someone should have explained that to me and also given me the option to not do it after I tried it once. Also had to wait quit a while for the ride back and the driver did not communicate it very well although he did a great job of getting us there and back.

Very professional, thorough, clear, etc. I didn't worry about my safety, just found it not to be my kind of activity.

Really fun ziplines, also loved the Tarzan swing.

Driver got lost a few times picking people up from other hotels - wasn't enough room in the van for everyone. Long hike we weren't made aware of prior to. Guides were very good. Pictures were incredibly poor quality we discovered after we purchased them- disappointing. Overall the zipline was a good experience.

This was my least favorite but still really great experience. It was pretty scary and I have zipped before. I didnt care for how large the group was and the waiting around. I didnt like the way we were talked to by the older gentlemen. Found him a bit pushy and arrogant. Wished we would have had more information upfront about cameras etc. There should be a very big disclosure on how far and high you have to hike to go to Superman. I was not in shape for that and the altitude was extra hard on me. My heart hurt from that hike. I am glad we did it and wouldn't choose that tour again. I have zipped many times and love doing it and this was my least favorite experience. It is really cool to say I zipped the longest zip line in south america though!

This zip lines were awesome! Very long and high! And get ready for the Tarzan swing at the end!

Everyone loved this tour!

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

They should tell you what to expect when we did the "Tarzan". Very scary for my daughter..VERY. It would help to either prepare for it or just decide and not do it.

CHOOSING A CANOPY ZIPLINING TOUR IN COSTA RICA IS ALL ABOUT VACATION GOALS

Why we love arenal mundo aventura’s canopy ziplining tours, about the arenal mundo aventura ecological park, arenal mundo aventura: the difference between the big ama (12 cable) canopy ziplining tour and the ama xtreme (7 cable) canopy ziplining tour, arenal mundo aventura: the canopy ziplining tour experience, arenal mundo aventura: complimentary culture at the maleku indigenous reserve, map of the arenal mundo aventura ecological park.

Costa Rica offers something for everyone. If we had to make a grade school presentation about its plethora of opportunities, we would create a giant flowchart with a permanent marker and a piece of bristol board. We would draw a box at the top with the word “Costa Rica” written in it, with lines shooting out toward other boxes that list possible vacation goals, including “relaxation”, “adventure”, “romance”, and “cultural immersion”. From there we would draw a number of smaller boxes, each one containing the name of a local activity or practice that can be linked to a particular goal, such as “sunbathing on the beach”, “ziplining through the rainforest”, “dining at a fine restaurant”, and/or “speaking Spanish with local Costa Ricans”, respectively. Just as elementary school students learn focus and filtration through brainstorming, travellers can build worthwhile and efficient vacations by compartmentalizing their trip goals and organizing plans to achieve them.

Take the goal of “adventure” for example. If you wish to achieve this by “ziplining through the rainforest”, you may wish to consider the following inquiries as you add boxes to your own flowchart in an attempt to narrow down which canopy tour experience would be the best for you.

  • The number of cables the canopy ziplining tour offers
  • The canopy ziplining tour cable lengths
  • The tour operator’s reputation, safety record, and employee friendliness
  • The tour operator’s minimum age limit for participation in the canopy ziplining tour
  • Whether or not transportation is included with the canopy ziplining tour
  • The type of braking system used during the canopy ziplining tour
  • The duration of the canopy ziplining tour
  • The ratio of the canopy ziplining tour’s cost with the experience received
  • The type and quality of views obtained during the canopy ziplining tour
  • The tour’s proximity to town and/or your hotel
  • Special features or additional items included with the canopy ziplining tour
  • The opportunity to combine the canopy ziplining tour with other activities of interest
  • Other canopy ziplining tour factors that may be important to you

When we work to determine which Costa Rica tours and activities warrant our time, energy, money, and recommendation, we question nearly all of the above. Although it is rare for us to come across experiences that appease our criteria and critiques across the board, one of the most detailed flowcharts we have drafted to date is our evaluation of Arenal Mundo Aventura’s canopy ziplining tour options.

Arenal Mundo Aventura

La Fortuna / Arenal is touristy; there is no doubt about it, just as there is no questioning that the area offers so much to see and do that even the most tourism-repugnant travellers opt to visit the destination during an otherwise off-the-beaten-path trip. Parallel to the region’s growth in commercial development is the creation of countless canopy ziplining tours along for the ride. As a result, La Fortuna / Arenal is home to many, many canopy ziplining tour options, albeit only a select few that we choose to recommend. One such recommendation is the  Big AMA Canopy Ziplining Tour (and its shortened experience, the  AMA Xtreme Canopy Ziplining Tour ) offered at the “Arenal Mundo Aventura Ecological Park”.

A reputable tour operator boasting a positive reputation within the industry and friendly tour guides… check. A lengthy tour experience with a sufficient number of zipline cables (totaling more meters than most canopy ziplining tour competitors)… check. A valuable tour experience that combines fun and fantastic views with a cultural component at an affordable price… check. A location that doesn’t require too much time or difficulty to get to, that also offers ample free parking onsite for travellers who wish to drive themselves to/from the park, as well as complimentary transportation to/from local hotels for travellers who need it… check. Opportunities for two or more onsite activities (or offsite activities nearby) to be combined in order to save money and/or precious vacation time… check. What more could we (or you) ask for?

Arenal Mundo Aventura

The Arenal Mundo Aventura Ecological Park is best known for its three original onsite activities: the canopy ziplining tour, the rappel tour, and the horseback riding to the La Fortuna Waterfall tour (each of which may be combined with either or both of the others to form half-day or full-day combo tours). In addition, Arenal Mundo Aventura offers early morning birdwatching tours and night tours conducted around their property, as well as presentations by members of Costa Rica’s Maleku Indigenous tribe. Operations for all of the above-mentioned activities flow through the Arenal Mundo Aventura Ecological Park, an area comprised of over five hundred hectares of protected land that exists a convenient five-minute drive from La Fortuna’s downtown core.

Don’t miss our Arenal Mundo Aventura tour discounts: Big 12 AMA Canopy Ziplining Tour (La Fortuna/Arenal) Big 12 AMA Canopy Ziplining Tour with Horseback Riding (La Fortuna/Arenal) Horseback Riding to the La Fortuna Waterfall Tour (La Fortuna/Arenal) Big 12 AMA Canopy Ziplining Tour and Rappel Tour Combo (La Fortuna/Arenal) Big 12 AMA Canopy Ziplining Tour, Rappel Tour, and Horseback Riding to the La Fortuna Waterfall Tour Combo (La Fortuna/Arenal) Maleku Indigenous Village Tour And Presentation (La Fortuna/Arenal)

Canopy tour participants who opt to zipline in La Fortuna with Arenal Mundo Aventura may choose from one of two ziplining tour experiences: the Big AMA canopy ziplining tour or the AMA Xtreme canopy ziplining tour. Travellers, beware of street-corner salesmen and/or travel agents who sell “Arenal Mundo Aventura’s canopy tour” without providing the tour experience’s exact name; since the AMA Xtreme canopy ziplining tour is a shortened (and therefore less expensive) version of the regular Big AMA canopy ziplining tour, some individuals and companies will offer it to travellers as to appear to provide a lower price than their competitors who instead supply their clients with the full tour. When the experience is ambiguously described as being “Arenal Mundo Aventura’s canopy tour”, the caption is misleading and may lead some travellers to assume that they will receive the full canopy ziplining experience when in fact only a portion of the tour has been reserved. To be clear, participants who are interested in Arenal Mundo Aventura’s regular and full 12-cable canopy ziplining tour should request the Big AMA canopy ziplining tour, whereas participants who would prefer Arenal Mundo Aventura’s shortened 7-cable canopy ziplining tour should request the AMA Xtreme canopy ziplining tour.

The regular Arenal Mundo Aventura canopy ziplining tour (the Big AMA 12 canopy ziplining tour) cable lengths: Cable #1: 180 meters Cable #2: 140 meters Cable #3: 130 meters Cable #4: 135 meters Cable #5: 540 meters Cable #6: 340 meters Cable #7: 980 meters Cable #8: 196 meters Cable #9: 100 meters Cable #10: 207 meters Cable #11: 354 meters Cable #12: 450 meters Total ziplining distance: 3,752 meters
The shortened Arenal Mundo Aventura canopy ziplining tour (the AMA Xtreme canopy ziplining tour) cable lengths: Cable #1 (which is actually cable #6 in the AMA Big 12 tour): 340 meters Cable #2 (which is actually cable #7 in the AMA Big 12 tour): 980 meters Cable #3 (which is actually cable #8 in the AMA Big 12 tour): 196 meters Cable #4 (which is actually cable #9 in the AMA Big 12 tour): 100 meters Cable #5 (which is actually cable #10 in the AMA Big 12 tour): 207 meters Cable #6 (which is actually cable #11 in the AMA Big 12 tour): 354 meters Cable #7 (which is actually cable #12 in the AMA Big 12 tour): 450 meters Total ziplining distance: 2,627 meters

Arenal Mundo Aventura

Upon arrival at the Arenal Mundo Aventura Ecological Park, all canopy ziplining tour participants (both Big AMA tour participants and AMA Xtreme tour participants alike) are briefed with a thorough safety talk and equipment demonstration. Bracelets that identify whether a tour participant will experience all twelve zipline cables or only seven zipline cables are handed out. The tour officially begins with an approximate twenty-minute tractor ride to the canopy ziplining tour starting point where the first of two waterfalls encountered during the tour–the stunning Pino Blanco Waterfall –can be seen. Once each canopy ziplining tour participant has been fitted for their harness, Arenal Mundo Aventura tour guides lead participants who have reserved the Big AMA canopy ziplining tour on an approximate thirty-minute hike into the forest toward the first zipline cable (in contrast, participants who have reserved the AMA Xtreme canopy ziplining tour begin their tour experience with nearby cable #6, the first cable encountered with the shortened tour option). Although the Big AMA canopy ziplining tour offers a longer tour experience and five additional zipline cables than the AMA Xtreme canopy ziplining tour, both tours offer internal rainforest and bird’s eye views of La Fortuna’s lush landscape, complete with frames Maleku cultural center visit described below), another tractor ride (or a horseback ride, if this option is desired and reserved in advance) is provided as transportation back to the Arenal Mundo Aventura reception and entrance.

  • Arenal Mundo Aventura enforces minimum age, height, and weight limits for participation in their canopy ziplining tour; children must be at least seven years old, at least three feet and ten inches tall, and at least fifty-one pounds in order to participate.
  • Although some walking/hiking is required in order to get to/from a number of the tour’s cables, the most challenging section of the entire canopy ziplining tour takes place at the start of the tour prior to arriving at the first cable.
  • Tour participants who would prefer to start the canopy ziplining tour via horseback ride (this option is available at an extra cost) must request this preference in advance at the time of tour reservation.

Arenal Mundo Aventura

Upon completion of the Arenal Mundo Aventura canopy ziplining tours, participants stop at the Maleku Indigenous Reserve where they are greeted by friendly members of the local Maleku tribe in cultural dress. The soft greeting capi capi (kapi kapi), or “hello” in Maleku native tongue, is welcoming. A brief demonstration (which lasts approximately ten minutes) introduces foreigners to Maleku culture. Handmade arts and crafts made from balsa wood and jicara fruit (similar to pumpkin) are available for purchase if desired, and payment can be made directly to Arenal Mundo Aventura at the end of the tour upon return to the park’s reception. Years ago during one of our first visits to the Arenal Mundo Aventura Ecological Park, Ricky and I bought a carved jicara that depicts images of a butterfly, a toucan, and a macaw; during the Maleku presentation we experienced we were taught what each image represents: beauty and the colour of love (the blue morpho butterfly), the tranquilizing power of woman over the aggressive and the protectiveness of man (the toucan), and fidelity (the macaw). To date, the carving remains one of our most cherished souvenirs.

  • The brief Maleku demonstration described above is automatically included with Arenal Mundo Aventura’s canopy ziplining tours (no separate request or reservation is required for it, and it cannot be removed from the canopy ziplining tour experience). In addition, Arenal Mundo Aventura offers a separate and more in-depth Maleku Indigenous Village tour and presentation that showcases cultural rituals pertaining to food and dance for travellers interested in learning more about the tribe. The latter experience is not linked to Arenal Mundo Aventura’s canopy ziplining tour (it requires a separate reservation altogether) and it does not involve any ziplining.

Wonderfully thrilling ziplining in La Fortuna. This company is very organized and the lines are great - over waterfalls and offering many open vistas - perhaps longer and faster than we'd expected, but what a thrill. Our 7 yr old went zipping with a guide. They kept us flowing along. Loved the hilly trails and woods. "Ronny" was our main guide. He and the other gals were great. Definitely recommend this tour.
