Royal Caribbean Port - Cruise Shore Excursions Jamaica

Royal Caribbean Port

Well let me preface this by saying, some people will like it, some people will not. I simply gave it 4 stars because the port is not at all bad, there is just not much to do. Please read on..... This port is totally sealed off and secure from the rest of the country. Keep this in mind. The ship is able to dack right next to the port so unlike Cozumel or Cayman you don't have far to walk or you don't have to tinder into the port. The entire port is owned and operated by Royal Caribbean so everything and everyone is clean, shiny, and new. The entire place is a location to sell toruists things. We did buy some jamaican spices and sauces in a shop that was really jamaican and they were priced very well. Many of the items were priced reasonably well. The port is divided into a couple of parts as far as shopping goes. One part is set up like an outdoor mall where you have individual shops witha theme. All of those are very nice and clean. No one is pressing you to buy anything. At the time I was there not all of the shops were occupied, they are probably by now. The second part (the part I enjoyed) was setup like an open air markett. Here is where you can make deals and find some hand made stuff and things that are not simply retail souveniers. I spent some time in this area, the people were very friendly and if you wanted things for adults to grand kids... you could find it. The place is not really large but not small by any means. Now for the critical... There is or at the time was not a place to eact except for a hot dog stand. Really? The place has some places to sit but there is no beach area and you can not even see the ocean from the port. There is not really anything beautiful about the area. The beauty is located in the resorts or montego bay. Keep in mind you are in a third world country so this port is sealed off from the rest of the country. If you were on the ship you could see just beyond the gates of the port, the town was really run down and there were many locals just waiting to pounce on the first unsuspecting tourist to sell them something or who knows what. If you are taking an excursion that the cruise line books for you, you are very safe. Your transportation comes into the secure area of the port and picks you up. you do not have to leave the area on your own. If you take a cab you will have to get a cab driver from the port and endure the locals... Some friends of ours cabbed to Montego Bay and did not take an excursion. She said it was quite an experience just getting to this mans cab but he kept the locals away and they were able to get to their destination. They did have a great time after getting away from the port. Not everything is bad about jamaica. There are just lots of locals next to the port that want to get money out of you by doing or selling you anything... and I mean anything. The further away from the port you get the better it gets but you can not ever let your guard down. You are still a tourist and you probably have something they want and that is dollars. So to sum up my stop in Jamaica. Either plan to shop in the port or book an excursion. If this is your first time... you might enjoy the port for an hour or so. The next time I go there I am going to an all inclusive resort that is affiliated with the cruise line. I understand Beaches is owned or operated by RCCL. People I know have gone that route and say it is absolutely wonderful. They are allowed to come into the secure area and pick you up. They take you there and for one price it is all the play and eat you can handle for the entire day and they guarantee you they will have you back at the ship before they set sail. Strong Advice: Jamaica is definately a place that I would not go out on my own and definately do not ever go by yourself. A 20 yr old female went missing on the cruise I was on because she left the port and went into town on foot by herself. I never found out what became of this person but security was helping the parents look at the time we pulled out of port. The port is a great place to shop. Very safe and secure. You can go by yourself anywhere in the port. You can leave the port and as long as you stay in groups and do something that you have planned or booked, you will have a great time. Falmouth, small taste of Jamaica

We are frequent cruisers and now really only cruise on the Allure or the Oasis out of Ft.Lauderdale so we have traveled to all the stops in the Western and Eastern Caribbean numerous times. This is one of those stops that has been built just for the cruise ship and isn't a city you want to spend time in. You exit the ship into the terminal area where all the street vendors and peddlers are, it has been set up and built just for the cruise ships so its safe. Once to leave that are the city of Falmouth is very ghetto, I wouldn't consider it safe and there isn't really anything to see there. If this is a cruise stop for you I would get off buy some trinkets if that is your thing and then get back on the ship and relax or take a cab to Montego Bay or somewhere worth seeing in Jamaica.

Took about a 30 min ride on an air conditioned tour van, allowing a glimpse of "real" Jamaica. Went to an unmarked starting point where we signed releases, donned life jackets and helmets then rafters, guides and tubers crossed a rickety bridge and hiked about 7-8 minutes, carrying our tubes to a starting point. Our guide swam along side us on a boogy board, guiding us so we avoided rafters, rocks, and shore. At one point, a rope swing was made available, to which we passed on(river was a bit too chilly for our liking) then, before river meets caribbean, we get out of our tubes and stand in the river until everyone catches up to us. At this time we wait for a motor boat to come and we all pile into the rafts that were used (which are now tied together for a tow). Two neighborhood children jump into the river to deflate the tubes while we are all towed into the ocean to the shore where "beach time" was available as well as snacks (for a fee), showers, restrooms and souveniers. It all seemed very primitive, yet I did not feel unsafe at all. After tubing, would have rather just been driven back to pier (as did most people it seemed). But overall, an enjoyable excursion.

Awesome gal, great tour guide. Cant say enough about her. She's exactly who you want, when you want her and she makes it a point to take care of each person in the group. She has many surprises and makes Jamaica soooo worth visiting again!

If you want an amazing tour with an amazing guide while in Jamaica, you have to spend some time with Patrice Bailey of Patmar Tours. With an upcoming trip to Jamaica with best friends on the horizon, one of my friends did some research into hiring a private driver from the airport to the resort rather than taking the normal bus. During her research, she started to notice a number of references regarding an amazing driver named Patrice, who was praised for her passionate devotion to making sure her clients received the best care whilst in her charge. My friend and her husband booked with Patrice and quickly found that she was everything the earlier reviews said about her, and more. In that 30 minute ride from the airport to the resort, they knew without doubt that Patrice was the perfect driver for the 4 of us on our upcoming shopping trip/tour of Montego Bay/Falmouth and rafting along the Martha Brae later in the week. After discussing the idea with us, we booked with Patrice. Patrice picked us up on time, met us with a smile, and was full of energy to show off her beloved country to people who were eager to experience it. She had Red Stripe, soda, and water in the car ready for us. She took us to the Martha Brae river rafting facility, pointing out all along the way, the history and points of interest. When we got to the facility, she took the lead, talking to the managers there telling them that we were VIPs and wanted to make sure that we received the best in service from them. She even went as far to personally talk to the raft captains, to ensure a pleasant trip. She took us shopping and suggested several areas where we could receive the best merchandise as well as the best price. In each store, she took the lead to bargain with the merchants to get us a better price than even we had negotiated. Statements like, "Oh you can do better than that," or "No mon, I need your best price" were the norm. It didn't matter if it was a shopping area she picked or we picked, she was the same. Since it was also my birthday, Patrice was working to help me find something that would wow me and make my day special. By the end of shopping, I still hadn't found that special gift for myself. During a rum tasting, Patrice suggested that I try a 25 yr old rum which was indeed one of the smoothest rums I have ever tasted. However, I was in no mood to pay the $60 for it. I'm just not that big a rum drinker. And with that, we went on to the next place. Every now and then, Patrice would ask me, "so you found anything to wow you yet?" When it was time for lunch, the restaurant we picked out was quite crowded. Patrice said, "Wait here," and went in to talk to a restaurant manager. She soon returned and walked us to a table, ahead of everyone else. She then took our orders and went to the kitchen, a little while later, she returned with the food. Patrice then took is on a tour of the Falmouth and Montego Bay ares, with stops at the White Witch Golf Club - a former plantation with breathtaking views, famous celebrity homes, tours of some upscale working class neighborhoods (an interesting contrast to the unfortunate neighborhoods with shacks you normally see along the roads), a trip to the former Dewers mansion which sits on a hill overlooking Montego Bay with a panoramic view of the city, and then drove some of of the crowded streets of Mongeo Bay. Everywhere we went, everyone seemed to know Patrice; managers, shop owners, people along the streets - everyone knows Patrice. She watched over us like a mother hen, keeping an eye on us even when we split up and wandered off. For dinner, Patrice suggested, Chill-Out, a restaurant with great food, ambiance, and timed just right, a beautiful sunset. We ate dinner on the beach and never thought for a minute not to include Patrice. She had become a beloved member of our little group. Dinner was phenomenal, and the company spectacular. We, and Patrice, shared stories about one another and our previous trips to Jamaica. Toward the end of dinner, the waitstaff came to the table singing happy birthday to me and in their hands, they held the $60 bottle of rum Patrice had purchased for me as a gift. I was truly wowed by her compassion for her customer and her generosity. Patrice was more than our driver. She was representative of all that's great about the Jamaican people. She is driven by a passion to deliver excellent customer service and provide an extraordinary experience to her clients. Patrice will drive all across Jamaica to meet her clients and usually has a waiting list of people who will only ride with Patrice. We now count ourselves in that group. Contact Patrice at 876-612-0120 or [email protected]

We were recently on a seven day cruise to the western Caribbean and went to Red Stripe beach as a shore excursion at Falmouth, Jamaica. Our driver told us that it is a new beach (~ 1 year old) and at first it seemed to be tucked away in a waste land of swamp and knocked-over trees! Once we entered the property and reached the beach proper, however, it was a Very cute little gem tucked away on the shoreline. Here's our impressions: The Good: Pretty! We arrived at opening and I saw the staff industriously raking the beach and making it free of twigs, seaweed, and other debris. The beach itself was probably about 150 yards overall with a beautiful view of the wooded and rocky shoreline in both directions. We were able to relax, enjoy or chosen beverages, and watch the massive cruise ships pass by, in the distance, on their way to the port! The water was nice and there were two lifeguards keeping a constant eye on the guests. There was beach chair and floaty rentals, two cute little shacks for tourist swag and beach supplies, a bar/cafe, and clean toilet facilities. Later in the morning, local artisans come and sell their wares at the edge of the shoreline. The Not-So-Good: Size It is a small locale. Thankfully, we were part of the early arrivals and were able to get prime spots at the beach's edge with perfect views. The later arrivals ended up a row or two back and hemmed in by other visitors. To be fair, it is NOTHING like the crowded beaches we can all imagine from our Spring-break days! But the tight confines and relative crowding does detract from the relaxation. The lifeguards were very nice but in some ways trying too hard to be friendly for the sake of tips. As a result, it again became hard to relax. My wife finally twigged to the idea of putting a book over her face and pretending to rest until or host moved on to another family. Overall: I actually wish we had spent more time there! I know it doesn't sound great from the description, but it really was a Very Nice beach and they made a genuine effort to keep their guests happy and safe. It wasn't insanely crowded and it was, after all, Spring-break so I expected other families to flock to this excursion locale. Tips/Suggestions: I would definitely recommend arriving early so you can grab the prime real-estate at the shoreline! The food and drink is pricey but that's to be expected. Bring plenty of cash.

Dunn’s River Falls and River Tubing is a wet and wild combo tour that allows you to enjoy two of Jamaica’s most impressive natural attractions; its freshwater rivers and amazing cascading falls.

Your tour begins with a pick-up directly from your cruise ship port or Ocho Rios hotel, where our friendly driver/guide will greet you and take you on your wet, incredible adventure to Dunn’s River Falls and the White River Tubing Adventure.

Our tour begins with a drive to Dunn’s River Falls, where we do our best to beat the rush from the extensive cruise ship tours. At Dunn’s River Falls, we take an adventure to new heights.

Bathrooms, changing facilities, and lockers are available for rent at the falls. You may climb the falls in supervised groups or on your own if you are up to the challenge.

If the climb is too much, you may walk along the side and enter the water from several well-placed entry points. This guided climb is not suited for everyone but has been mastered by visitors of all ages.

If you are not comfortable climbing the falls, you can enjoy them from several vantage points along the length of the cascading river. Our time at the Falls is approx 1 hour and 30 minutes and provides time for you to do a little local shopping, sample some local foods, or relax on the beach.

Following Dunn’s River Falls, we take a leisurely 20-30 minute drive to the White River, where your River Tubing Adventure will begin two miles from the sea.

Bathrooms, changing rooms, and life jackets are available at the tour’s beginning. During your trip downriver, you will travel through 7 rapids.

Glide through lush tropical greenery and take in the fantastic scenery as you gently wind down the lazy river. This is a journey that you will not forget.

Your driver will safeguard your belongings during the trip and meet you at the end of your ride, where you can spend a few minutes shopping at the local craft center.

Our Jamaica River Tubing portion lasts for approximately 1 hour and 15 mins, depending on the time you spend at the midway stop. This River Tubing Adventure is guided by two guides leading groups of 5-15 people. Generally, we provide one guide for every five tubers.

At the midway point, you can do a 20 ft Cliff plunge into the river. The depth is over 12 feet, which is a safe and fun jump.

Professional photographers are on hand to capture your special moments during this tour. The purchase of these photos is optional. However, you are welcome to bring your cameras to capture these unforgettable moments.

Following your tubing adventure, we will take you on a beautiful drive through Ocho Rios famous Fern Gully on our way back to your cruise ship or hotel. During our drive, you can take photos and enjoy some panoramic views of Ocho Rios Bay.

Following your River Tubing and Dunn’s River Falls Excursion, your guide will take you to Island Village, just a few steps from your cruise ship port.

You can shop or stop by Jimmy Buffet’s famous Margaritaville Bar and Restaurant. They have a pool with a slide if you still want to get wet.

Our guides are flexible and will go the extra mile for your group. If you have any special requests, we aim to exceed your expectations and make this an adventure of a lifetime.

Best Jamaica cruise shore excursions

River Tubing and Partying in Jamaica

Caribbean , Travel | December 5, 2019

During my press trip with Royal Caribbean, our second port of the seven night Western Caribbean cruise was Falmouth in Jamaica. The shore excursion we did there was probably my favourite of the entire trip and it was a day I’ll remember forever.

Our day in Jamaica involved cruising down a river in a rubber tube, followed by a party on the beach. It was so perfect, and after the previous day in Labadee, Haiti , I was basically on cloud nine.

We did the ‘Bamboo Beach Club & River Tubing’ Jamaica excursion and we honestly couldn’t have chosen a better way to spend the day. It allowed us to do an active, bucket-list type activity during the first half of the day, then chill out and party in the sun for a few hours before we had to be back onboard.

Why I loved River Tubing in Jamaica

I went to Jamaica on holiday with my boyfriend’s family a few years ago so I was very excited to return! We got off Harmony of the Seas and jumped straight onto a shuttle bus. The drive took around 35 minutes but the local guides kept us amused with Jamaican jokes and snippets of info about life on the island.

Last time I visited Jamaica, I stayed at the RIU in Ocho Rios and we actually drove past the hotel on our shuttle bus. It was strange to see the place again!

I wasn’t 100% sure what river tubing actually entails until I got to the river, but luckily I wasn’t left disappointed. Tubing is literally floating down the river in a rubber ring.

The rapids were mild so it was a lot more relaxing than I was expecting it to be (especially when the local dogs decide to join you for a swim). There were a few parts that ramped up a bit, resulting in splashes and screams, but it wasn’t exactly boisterous. In fact, there were a few little kids doing it.

River tubing in Jamaica

After our time on the river, we piled back into the shuttle bus for a short drive to Bamboo Beach Club in Falmouth, where we really let loose. Rum punch was poured, a tapas-style lunch of jerk chicken and plantain was served to us in our beach seats, and we had a blast dancing on the sand to reggae.

There was even live entertainment, with dancers getting everyone going on the beach.

Jamaica beach party cruise excursion

This Jamaica shore excursion is all-inclusive, so we didn’t have to worry about paying for the food and drinks. We did stop at a souvenir shop on the way home, which was handy for anyone wanting to pick up any tourist tat or rum.

If you’ve got a Western Caribbean cruise lined up, Jamaica is a fantastic country to explore. The people are so friendly and funny, and the landscape is just beautiful.

I’ve already done Dunn’s River in Ocho Rios and a few of the other tourist attractions on my previous holiday so I loved the chance to try something new on our shore excursion in Jamaica. Don’t hesitate to book this one if you have a cruise planned!

The next stop was Cozumel in Mexico – check out the Cozumel shore excursion we did.

Falmouth Jamaica Cruise Port Guide - What to see, where to go, kid friendly beaches

Falmouth is the capital of Trelawny Parish and during the 19th century, it was a bustling and wealthy shipping port.

Today it is a popular cruise port and commercial development center.

Falmouth is one of the Caribbean’s best-preserved Georgian towns and the Trelawny name may already be familiar to some. Jamaica’s most decorated Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt is from the area.

Located between Montego Bay (about 40 minutes driving west of the port) and Ocho Rios (approximately 60-minute drive east of the port), the port of Falmouth was originally built for Royal Caribbean’s Oasis-class cruise ships in 2011.

But today, other cruise lines including Disney and Celebrity visit this busy Jamaican port.

The Historic Falmouth Cruise Port spans 32-acres and features multiple retail stores, a craft market and several dining establishments including American fast food joints like Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs and Dairy Queen.

Cruisers can spend their time in port learning about Falmouth’s rich trading and shipping history or sign up for shore excursions in Montego Bay or Ocho Rios.

Given its proximity to Florida’s multiple departure/embarkation ports , Jamaica is a year-round cruise destination and you’ll find Falmouth on many Western Caribbean itineraries.

Currency:  US Dollar

Primary Language Spoken:  English

Where Do Cruise Ships Dock in Falmouth?

The Falmouth cruise port is triangular shaped and can accommodate two ships at a time. The port area is closed to locals with the exception of those who work at the shops and restaurants.

The red-roofed terminal building and port area has been touted by some cruise passengers as being very artificial and a bit Disney-esque but taking a tour past the port’s gates will allow you to see the real Jamaica.

Falmouth Jamaica with Kids - What to Do and Where to Go when porting in Falmouth

Getting Around Falmouth

While car rentals are available in port, it isn’t recommended for cruise passengers. Cars drive on the left-hand side in Jamaica and Falmouth is very busy during the day which makes navigating quite difficult.

Taxi / Taxi Van – There is no shortage of taxis in the port area. Most drivers should have fares to popular destinations posted. Make sure to discuss the fare before departing. Jamaican Tourist Board licensed taxis have a JTB sticker on their windshield and all drivers are expected to carry photo ID with them. Taxis with red license plates (known as Route Taxis) often have lower flat rate fares because they will pick up other passengers en route.

Trolley / Horse Drawn Carriage  – There are several guided tours that take visitors around Falmouth’s historic sights. If you’re looking for a short excursion, a trolley or carriage tour would be a relaxing and economical way to explore the area.

Walking – A short walk beyond the port’s gates leads to several historic sights however due to the compact town and constantly being approached by local vendors (a common complaint from previous cruisers), many visitors stay within the port’s gates or book a shore excursion.

Kid Friendly Beaches in Falmouth

Because there are no beaches within walking distance of the port, cruise lines often offer all-inclusive beach day excursions at nearby resort hotels. But if you’re looking for something less pricey and closer to port, there are two kid-friendly beaches just a short drive away that might fit the bill.

Read More: Best Water Shoes for Toddlers and Kids

Burwood Beach – Just 3.5 miles / 5.7 km from port is Burwood Beach. There is a $5/person admission fee (locals and kids are free) which gives you access to the beach and bathroom and shower facilities. The water is very clear and quite shallow – about 4 feet deep for the most part. There’s a lifeguard on duty and umbrellas and beach chairs are available for rent for another $5 each. You won’t find food vendors here but you can purchase drinks at the small beach bar. Cruise crowds typically head to Burwood Beach around noon so if you’re looking to have the beach to yourself for a few hours, you’re better off visiting in the morning before lunchtime.

Red Stripe Beach – If you’re looking for a private family-friendly beach near the port, Red Stripe is a good option. Royal Caribbean cruise passengers can book this onboard and non Royal Caribbean cruise visitors can book this excursion at the port – just look for the Red Stripe Beach kiosk. The $29/adult ($15/child) fee covers the round trip shuttle bus service to and from Red Stripe Beach. It’s approximately a 10-minute drive from the port. Once there, you can rent beach chairs, purchase drinks and food from the bar and grill, get a massage from the on-site massage therapist or enjoy the calm cool water. There’s a lifeguard on duty as well as restroom and change room facilities. Shuttle buses run every hour for those who only want to stay for part of the day.

“ All Inclusive Resort Beach Day Passes ” are Jamaica’s answer to providing a beach experience with extra amenities – think splash pads for kids, all you can drink and eat packages, and water sports. You can book these excursions directly with your cruise line, purchase passes from a tour company or put one together yourself – you’ll arrange transportation and purchase passes directly from the hotel.

These two family-friendly resorts offer beach day passes and are less than a 25-minute taxi ride from the port.

  • Royalton White Sands
  • Hilton Rose Hall – day passes can be purchased online here

You can book an excursion in advance through a tour company (some cruise lines offer shore excursions to these resorts) or coordinate transportation and day passes on your own.

Top Attractions & Activities Around Falmouth for Families

Because Falmouth is situated in between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios – two of the most popular tourist destinations in Jamaica – there’s plenty of family-friendly activities and attractions to choose from.

Here are the top kid-friendly activities and attractions we recommend checking out:

Dunn’s River Falls – One of Jamaica’s national treasures and the country’s most well-known waterfall – Dunn’s River Falls – can be found in Ocho Rios (about an hour’s drive from Falmouth). There are many shore excursions and tours that stop at the Falls. This is a very popular attraction for cruisers and those vacationing in Jamaica so if you’re headed this way, choose an excursion or tour that includes other activities in addition to the Falls – it will be a much better value.

Water shoes are required as some of the rocks are slippery and uneven. You can either bring them from home or rent them when you get there. There’s also a small shoe rental stand within the port complex for cruisers who require shoes for the day. Although there are no minimum age restrictions to climb the Falls, this activity isn’t recommended for children under 7. The fast-moving water and slippery walking surfaces can be intimidating for young children. Parents are allowed to carry their children but again, this can be difficult when you’re trying to maintain your balance. Recommended length of visit – 1 to 2 hours

READ MORE: Top 8 Water Shoes and Swimming Shoes for Toddlers and Kids

Irie Blue Hole – If you’re looking for a less crowded waterfall excursion, then Irie Blue Hole in Ocho Rios might be for you. This 20-foot cascading waterfall offers visitors a chance to jump, swing, and swim in crystal blue waters. When compared to Dunn’s River Falls, this excursion is a better option for families with young children as climbing, cliff jumping and swinging off the Tarzan rope are all optional. Tour guides are there to help navigate and lend a helping hand to those less steady on their feet (the reviews from parents with young children have been positive). Water shoes are highly recommended for this activity. Recommended length of visit – 1 to 2 hours

Green Grotto Caves – Nature lovers and history buffs will enjoy exploring 1000-year-old underground caves while learning about their fascinating history. Green Grotto Caves in Ocho Rios was once a refuge for runaway slaves, a home for Taino Indians and a rum storage room during World War II. Just a head’s up – you will encounter bats while exploring the caves! These animals and other creepy crawlies call the caves home. Recommended length of visit – 1 to 1.5 hours

Bobsledding at Mystic Mountain Park – Inspired by Jamaica’s Olympic bobsled team, the bobsled adventure is a must-do for adrenaline junkies. This custom built track takes visitors through 1500 meters of tropical rainforest at 28 mph. All riders must be 46 inches or taller. Mystic Mountain Park is a 100-acre park that offers activities for the entire family in addition to bobsledding. Visitors can ride the Sky Explorer (chairlift), zip line through the rainforest, splash around in the infinity pool and water slide and explore the butterfly and hummingbird gardens. Recommended length of visit – 1.5 to 3 hours

Good Hope Estate – Visit this 2,000-acre plantation and park located just 20-minutes driving from the port of Falmouth. Tour the grounds and learn about the history of this sugar-estate or choose your own adventure. Visitors can go zip lining, river tubing, explore the grounds on an ATV, swim in the pool, visit the aviary, sign up for a rum tour, challenge yourself on the obstacle/ropes course, or try some famous Jamaican dishes. Families can easily spend the entire day here as there are activities for every age group.  Lockers are available for rent and waterproof cameras are highly recommended for those participating in water activities.  Recommended length of visit – 4 hours or more

Margaritaville Falmouth – If you want to skip booking an excursion completely, you might be interested in spending an hour or two at Margaritaville. You don’t even have to leave the port complex! Splash through a mini version of Dunn’s River Falls, try the Jerk Chicken, play in the pool and swim-up bar and catch up on email – there’s free WiFi here! Recommended length of visit – 1 to 2 hours

Where to Get Free WiFi in Falmouth

Margaritaville offers free WiFi for paying customers.

You can also head to Diamonds International within the port complex for free WiFi.

By: Author Dan Bagby

Posted on Published: May 4, 2023

Although every Sandals all-inclusive resort has tons of complimentary activities onsite, you’ll probably also want to explore what the area has to offer. That’s where Sandals excursions come in. They cost extra but are super easy to arrange through the resort.

You can book Sandals excursions online via the Sandals website after you’ve made your reservation, or once you get to the resort. If there’s something you really want to do, we recommend booking it in advance just to be safe.

But what excursions does Sandals offer? They are different at each Sandals resort. In this article we’ll discuss Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Royal Caribbean excursions in Jamaica, so read on to learn more.

Excursions at Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Royal Caribbean, Jamaica

The Caribbean island of Jamaica offers natural beauty, white sand beaches, clear and warm waters, and tons of activities, making it a very popular romantic and honeymoon destination.

Sandals Montego Bay has a long stretch of white sand beach, plenty of watersports, and a lively social scene. It’s located near Sandals Royal Caribbean , which is known for its private island and gorgeous Over-the-Water Bungalows .

Both of these Sandals adults only all inclusive resorts in Jamaica are located near the airport in Montego Bay, so they are easy to get to. When you stay at either one, you have access to all the facilities of the other via a complimentary shuttle. That’s why we’re talking about their excursions in one article.

There are a lot of things to do in Jamaica and the Montego Bay area , so you’ll have a wide variety of excursions to choose from. Sandals Royal Caribbean and Sandals Montego Bay excursions are all managed by Island Routes, but you book and pay through Sandals.

Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Royal Caribbean excursions include ziplining in the jungle, horseback riding on the beach, ATV tours, a “drive your own” adventure to Negril or Ocho Rios, boat trips, river rafting, waterfall tours, mountain hiking, swimming in a luminous lagoon, rum tours, catamaran cruises, and more.

There are also dolphin encounter experiences. While we do not feel good about dolphins in captivity, they are available.

We liked the Luminous Lagoon Experience as well as the Martha Brae Bamboo Rafting. In our opinion, the Dunn’s River Falls excursion is too far from Sandals Montego Bay / Royal Caribbean to be a good choice if you’re staying here. We didn’t do the Rastafarian experience, but lots of people like it.

Let’s take a look at some of the Sandals Royal Caribbean and Sandals Montego Bay excursions in more detail.

Treetop Zipline and River Tubing Experience Montego Bay

Adventurous couples will enjoy this Sandals Montego Bay or Royal Caribbean excursion, which takes you into the rainforest to zipline hundreds of feet up above the trees. Then you’ll tube down the river as guides point out local wildlife and jungle animals.

Bamboo River Rafting on the Martha Brae River

For a unique experience, relax on a 30-foot bamboo raft as your captain guides you down the beautiful Martha Brae River in the rainforest. Enjoy the peace and quiet as you spot exotic local flowers and birds along the way.

Luminous Lagoon Experience

Home to tiny organisms that glow when touched, the Luminous Lagoon is a great romantic excursion. You’ll head there at sunset for a night cruise, and get a chance to swim in the water.

Rose Hall Great House Night Experience

This slightly spooky Sandals Royal Caribbean / Montego Bay excursion takes you through the historic plantation, home to Jamaica’s “White Witch,” on a candle-lit tour complete with storytelling. End the tour in the dungeon, which is now a pub.

Blue Mountain Hiking and Waterfall Tour from Montego Bay

Enjoy delicious Blue Mountain coffee, then head up 1500 feet on a 2-mile hike up the mountain, which passes through tropical forest. Along the way you’ll get a chance to cool off at beautiful waterfalls.

YS Falls and Appleton Estate Rum Tour

Head to the South Coast to see the seven waterfalls at YS Falls, swim in the natural pools, and then visit Appleton Estate to tour the distillery. You’ll enjoy a tasty lunch and then try samples of three different rum blends.

Cinnamon Hill Golf Course Experience

Play 18 holes at one of the Caribbean’s best-known golf courses, Cinnamon Hill. This challenging course has incredible sea views plus amazing landmarks and appeals to all kinds of golfers.

You can also go on excursions in Jamaica with local guide companies or through online vendors like Get Your Guide and Viator.

In between excursions, you’ll have lots of onsite Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Royal Caribbean activities to choose from. These include complimentary watersports like scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, Hobie Cat sailing, paddleboarding, waterskiing, and tubing, plus complimentary land activities like day and night tennis, beach volleyball, bocce ball, pool, and board games.

Sandals Royal Caribbean

Work out in the state-of-the-art fitness center and take exercise classes, or indulge at the spa (for an extra fee). And of course, you can lounge on the beautiful beach, relax by any of the pools, soak in a whirlpool, or enjoy tropical cocktails at a bar.

There’s also daily and nightly entertainment including live bands, a piano bar, beach parties, Jamaican Jamboree, talent nights, and theme nights.

Opening a US bank account from the Caribbean

We delve into the nuances of opening a US bank account from the Caribbean. This guide is structured to provide clarity and direction for individuals and businesses that need to send and receive money from clients, friends, and family abroad.

Why a US Bank Account?

A US bank account offers a strategic advantage, mitigating the foreign exchange issue by providing unrestricted access to US dollars (USD). This is crucial for businesses engaging in online transactions, individuals who travel frequently, and those receiving funds from abroad. The benefits are clear: full fund accessibility; international card usage; and simpler, cost-effective money transfers from overseas.

Also, if you want to have full access to payment platforms like PayPal or Stripe , then having a US account will go a long way.

Opening a Personal US bank account

Requirements and Process

To open a personal US bank account, physical presence in the US is mandatory. Prospective account holders can approach banks like Bank of America, Chase, TD, Citibank, and Wells Fargo, which offer non-citizen accounts. Essential requirements include two forms of ID (for example, passport and driver’s licence) and proof of a US address. Proof of address can be established through various means, such as being added to a family member’s or friend’s bill (think phone bill). You can have a family member or friend draft a lease agreement to show that you live there (banks accept lease agreements) or you can use the USPS change of address website. You would input an address from a family member or friend and then give them a new address for where you would like to receive your mail, preferably another family member or friend that would accept mail on your behalf. USPS will then send an official change of address document to the new address listed, which you can use when opening a bank account. The cost is US$1.10 online.

In the case of Citibank, they will open the account with a utility bill from your home country as well.

The banks in the US do not require an appointment and you can walk in with the necessary documents and open a US account. You do not need an Social Security Number (SSN) to open a non-citizens US account.

Business Accounts:

Businesses can remotely set up US accounts through third-party companies that handle the business registration and banking processes. These entities assist in obtaining an Employer Identification Number (EIN) number, which gives you more flexibility in banking services. Options include Start Global, First Base, Jump Start Filings, and Doola, with Mercury Digital Bank recommended for its digital banking flexibility. With the EIN number, you can open a bank account with any institution of your choice.

Funding Your US Account

Funding mechanisms are vital for maintaining liquidity in your US account. Options include Western Union Direct for direct bank transfers. Once you have the name, address, routing number, and account number, you can directly deposit cash into your US accounts, make cash deposits during US visits, and receive online client payments (think PayPal , Stripe , Zelle , Cashapp , Payoneer , and Wise ).

These methods ensure continuous access to USD. Every month, I send money to my US bank account so that I am never in a position in which I don’t have USD when I need to conduct business online or when I travel.

We know that living in the Caribbean there are tools and platforms to which we do not have access because the platforms we may be trying to use require us to have a US bank account. For us to expand our offerings to the world and participate in the global economy, we need to have the right tools in place for us to transact business with as minimal friction as possible.
