Often called Quezon Province to distinguish it from Quezon City , Quezon is a province in Calabarzon which is rich in culture and nature. It has a bad reputation as a rainforest backwater along the highway to Bicol, but its festivals, hidden beaches, and historical monuments are things worth visiting.

Quezon Province's main draw is Mount Banahaw, an extinct volcano , which is sacred to the ancient Tagalog religion. Beside that, the province also has colorful festivals, like the Pahiyas festival in Lucban , hidden virgin beaches, charming old towns with old homes and Baroque churches in Lucban, Sariaya and Tayabas .

Regions [ edit ]

Quezon Province is commonly divided into these four traditional regions, with the Sierra Madre being the dividing line between them.

  • Western Quezon ( Lucena , Tayabas , Candelaria, Lucban , Mauban, Pagbilao, Sampaloc, Sariaya , Tiaong)- The most populated and urbanized region of Quezon, it has historical town centers, colorful festivals and culture, and some bits of nature.
  • Eastern Quezon (Alabat Island, Atimonan , Calauag, Guinayangan, Gumaca, Lopez, Tagkawayan)- The rainier part of Quezon Province east of the Sierra Madre, it is mostly an area reliant on logging, fishing, and agriculture, but is slowly opening to ecotourism.
  • Northern Quezon (General Nakar, Infanta, Polillo Island , Real) - A rainy, forested backwater region at the side of the Sierra Madre facing the Pacific. Isolated from the rest of the province, the only way to get there is through eastern Laguna until the completion of a coastal road from Mauban.
  • Bondoc Peninsula - (Agdangan, Buenavista, Catanauan, General Luna, Macalelon, Mulanay, Padre Burgos, Pitogo, San Andres, San Francisco, San Narciso, Unisan) - Locally known as BonPen , it is a mountainous peninsula dotted with small towns, and has a distinctive identity from the rest of the province.

Cities [ edit ]

Map

Being a mostly rural province, Quezon only has two cities, and most of the other locations that equal to cities elsewhere in the province will be towns, many dating centuries ago.

  • 13.933333 121.616667 1 Lucena - Provincial capital, but is an independent city administratively. Has little sights (such as its church and the provincial capitol), but has a good bus station, some hotels, and the port to Marinduque
  • 14.003589 121.919861 2 Atimonan - Rural municipality at the foot of the mighty Sierra Madre, with a little town center along the coast. It is the gateway to the rainier, rural east of the province.
  • 14.113333 121.556944 3 Lucban - A municipality at the foot of Mount Banahaw, with a charming little town center that is home of the Pahiyas Festival, and the Kamay ni Hesus Catholic pilgrimage site.
  • 13.966667 121.533333 4 Sariaya - Rural muncipality, with a heritage town housing many Art Deco buildings, and a seaside with a growing number of beach resorts.
  • 14.016667 121.583333 5 Tayabas - Former provincial capital, also lends its name to the former name of the province. This city houses a heritage downtown that rivals Vigan or Taal .

Other destinations [ edit ]

  • 14.066667 121.483333 2 Mount Banahaw - The highest mountain in Quezon, and the Calabarzon region. It has been closed to mountaineers since 2004 to allow local flora to rebound.
  • 14.833333 121.95 3 Polillo Island - Tropical island off the Pacific coast of northern Quezon.

Understand [ edit ]

Quezon is equally known as an destination for nature lovers and a backwater of southern Luzon, being a province of rainforests, small towns, and coconut plantations. Except for the beaten-path part of the province around Mount Banahaw, most of Quezon is unknown to most travelers, and the province is quite overshadowed by its more prosperous and frequently visited neighbors, Batangas and Laguna . You'll likely see the rest of the province only in transit: from the windows of a long-distance bus barreling down the highway from Manila towards the south.

The natives of Quezon often called themselves Quezonins or Quezonians or by their town, such as Lucbanin , Unisanin , and Infantahin . They are mostly Tagalog speakers, but there are also Visayans, Ilocanos, and Bicolanos, the former being concentrated in Lucena, the second at the boundaries with Aurora, and the latter at the boundaries with Bicol. The population is at around 2 million as of 2020.

Quezon is largely a rural province with an economy reliant on agriculture, fisheries, forestry, power generation and tourism. Rice paddies abound in western Quezon, and most of the rainforest has been cut down to provide space for the coconut plantations that dominate the landscape of the lowlands and hills in most of the province. There is logging activity on the remaining forests, sometimes involving illegal operations. The province is home to two major power plants, one in Pagbilao and another in Mauban; both use coal, that they are much hated by the locals, but also critical lifelines for Luzon's power supply. Tourism is already established in western Quezon, but remains largely unknown elsewhere in the province.

History [ edit ]

What is now Quezon used to be parts of the current provinces of Batangas, Laguna, and Nueva Ecija. The boundary of the current province is formally defined as the Spaniards, under Juan de Salcedo, entered the Philippines. The province, originally named Kalilayan , has its first provincial capital at the present-day town of Unisan , but it is moved inland to Pagbilao after its destruction and pillaging by Moro pirates. In 1749, the capital is moved to Tayabas, which also have become its name until its renaming in 1946.

Because of the oppressive rule by the Spaniards, Tayabas also witnessed uprisings against the colonial authorities, most notably the rebellion led by mystic Hermano Pule (real name, Apolinario de la Cruz). At the end of the 19th century, it is one of the eight provinces that led the revolution against the Spanish authorities.

Civil government is established by the Americans in 1901, and the capital moved to Lucena . The Americans quelled remaining rebellions led by Filipinos in Quezon, as the province served as a supply point for rebels in Batangas and Laguna. Marinduque became part of Tayabas between 1902 and 1920. In December 1941, the Japanese arrived in Quezon, and stayed until their surrender in 1945.

Quezon gains its current name after a law is passed to name it after Manuel Quezon in 1946. Aurora is carved out as a smaller province within Quezon, until it was separated officially in 1979; it was transferred to Central Luzon in 2002. A referendum is held on the question of dividing the province into two in 2007, but has been defeated by a vast majority.

Climate [ edit ]

Quezon has a climate generally characterized by an almost equal distribution of rainfall through the year, but as the province is vast, there are variations, with western parts having a dry and wet season, and the eastern parts having a rainforest climate. The provinces gets struck by typhoons frequently, with the eastern parts the most vulnerable due to undeveloped infrastructure.

Politics [ edit ]

Quezon is quite conservative in politics, but is more so to the east of the Sierra Madre. This manifest in cultural differences between the more urbanized west (Pagbilao, Lucena, Tayabas Sariaya, Candelaria, Tiaong, and San Antonio), who are open to development, and the rural east, where locals strive to protect their traditional lifestyle reliant on fishing, agriculture and forestry.

Due to geographical barriers, lifestyle differences, and political preferences, inhabitants of Quezon have been increasingly polarized, and regionalism has increased, especially in the mountainous Bondoc Peninsula, where there is an active regionalist movement demanding the creation of their own province. A plebiscite to divide Quezon has been held in 2008, but is rejected by a sweeping majority of the province's residents.

As is common with the people of Calabarzon, Quezonians are staunch environmentalists. Major environmental challenges includes protecting the province's remaining rainforests, opposing construction of new fossil fuel power plants, and controling land development.

Talk [ edit ]

Quezon is a Tagalog -speaking province, but it has a distinctive dialect called Tayabas Tagalog or Tayabasin . Tayabasin is basically similar to Batangas Tagalog from its accent and vocabulary, but features a vocabulary with many borrowings from other Philippine languages like Ilocano , Bikol and Cebuano . While standard Tagalog or Batangas Tagalog is most commonly used in urbanized western Quezon, you'll likely stumble upon Tayabasin at the most rural parts of the province. The working population, educated residents, and learners can also speak or write in standard Tagalog or Filipino, and English.

Tayabasin also has its distinctive expression hane ( huh-NEH ), which is used similarly to the common Batangas expression ala eh and Marinduqueño ngani , indicating emphasis or asking for confirmation. This expression is used mostly in northern Quezon, on the Rizal border.

Get in [ edit ]

By bus [ edit ].

Major destinations in Quezon Province is regularly served by buses from Metro Manila and also Batangas . Most bus traffic through the province are bound for Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and Mindanao.

  • AB Liner . Regular bus service from Manila (Alabang or Sampaloc, Manila) to Guinayangan and Tagkawayan via Lucena and Calauag. ( updated Sep 2020 )
  • DLTBCo. . Services from Manila to Lucena, and onward to Bicol with stops at towns in Eastern Quezon. Tickets can be purchased on board from the conductor on the Manila-Lucena services, but for services stopping at Eastern Quezon, reservation is required if coming from major stops. ( updated Sep 2020 )
  • JAC Liner and LLi . Frequent bus service from Manila to Lucena (Grand Terminal, SM City Lucena and Dalahican port), stopping at most towns and cities from Calamba. ( updated Sep 2020 )
  • JAM Liner . Frequent regular AC bus service from Manila to Lucena terminal, and daily service to Mauban via Tayabas. Stops at Tiaong, Candelaria, Sariaya, and Tayabas (Calumpang). Mauban-bound buses stop at Gulang-Gulang (at Lucena) and Tayabas poblacion . ( updated Sep 2020 )
  • P&O Transport . Air-conditioned buses run from Manila (Alabang) to Tagkawayan and Guinayangan via the Maharlika Highway and Batangas City to Tagkawayan via San Juan and Eco-Tourism Road. ( updated Sep 2020 )
  • Supreme . Run both regular AC and non-AC buses between Batangas City and its own terminal in Lucena, with stops at Candelaria, Sariaya and Calumpang (Tayabas). ( updated Sep 2020 )
  • Superlines . Daily runs from Manila (Alabang and Cubao) to Santo Tomas Batangas, San Pablo Laguna, Alaminos Laguna, Catanauan and San Francisco via Pagbilao and Padre Burgos, with a layover at Lucena. Buses either AC or non-AC, with restrooms on board. Reservations required if traveling from their Manila (Alabang and Cubao) or Superlines and own sister company Daet Express bus stations. ( updated Sep 2020 )

By car [ edit ]

The Maharlika Highway (Manila South Road, or Rte 1 ) passes through Quezon and serves as a major transport backbone. Most motor traffic in the province passed through Maharlika Highway, but it has been experiencing major bottlenecks in the most important towns, resulting to the construction of bypasses. Other entry points when travelling by car are the new Quezon Eco-Tourism Road ( Rte 422 ), the Batangas-Quezon Road ( Rte 435 ) and Pagsanjan-Lucban Road ( Rte 605 ).

To northern Quezon from Manila, most go through Marcos Highway aka the Marilaque (Marikina-Rizal-Laguna-Quezon) Highway, popular with motorcyclists for its bends and scenery (though crashes are all too common). Alternatively, you can take Santa Maria-Infanta Road (Rte 601) which begins in eastern Laguna.

Northern Quezon will be connected to Aurora Province and Nueva Ecija through a road through the eastern Sierra Madre from Dingalan , but as of the moment, it will be a long drive through Manila (the same goes for the rest of Aurora).

By train [ edit ]

Philippine National Railways (PNR) operate a regional train service between Calamba and Lucena, stopping at Los Baños, San Pablo and Candelaria.

Service from Bicol remains suspended as of 2022. The Metro Commuter service from Manila has been discontinued in 2023; to connect with the regional train, you must take a bus from Manila, get off at Calamba Crossing and walk or ride a trike to the station in Calamba.

By ferry [ edit ]

RORO ferries connect Marinduque with Dalahican port at Lucena, on Avios Lines, Montenegro Shipping Lines (with M/V Marie Kristina ) and Starhorse Lines (with M/V Virgen de Peñafrancia ).

Get around [ edit ]

The province is vast, and distances can be rather deceptive. With no expressways until the completion of an extension of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) to Lucena by 2022, travel by road can take long, as many major highways also serve as main streets of the towns they serve. That said, many large towns have bypass roads being built, which should shorten travel times a bit until the expressways open.

Northern Quezon (Infanta, Real, General Nakar) can be reached only from the rest of the province through eastern Laguna . There is a highway along the eastern coast, but is incomplete; as of 2020, the remainder of the route is still being built through difficult terrain at the Sierra Madre facing the Pacific.

While the bulk of bus services crossing the province are headed for Manila or Bicol through the Maharlika Highway, there are also local bus companies with routes originating from Lucena to points within the province, usually to towns in Bondoc Peninsula and Northern Quezon.

  • FOC Transportation . Services between Lucena and Northern Quezon via Tayabas, Lucban, and Eastern Laguna. ( updated Sep 2020 )
  • NCR-Rienton Lines . Non-AC minibuses between Lucena, Tayabas, and Mauban. ( updated Sep 2020 )

Services to the Bondoc Peninsula are provided by AB Liner (to Guinayangan via Gumaca, Lopez and Calauag), Superlines (to Mulanay and San Francisco via Pagbilao), and smaller companies running minibuses. Those by AB and Superlines are usually continuation of services from Manila, which have a layover at Lucena.

By jeepney [ edit ]

Jeepneys connect Lucena with Lucban and Pagbilao, Gumaca with towns in BonPen, and Lopez and Calauag (with onward service to Santa Elena in Camarines Norte). Lucena City has its own jeepney network. Other routes are more likely to be run by unlicensed ones (e.g. Lucena-Sariaya), and must be avoided in favor or buses that also serve those destination pairs and places in between.

By boat [ edit ]

Boats and ferries connect Polillo Island with the mainland; the same also applies to Alabat and Jomalig.

See [ edit ]

Do [ edit ], eat [ edit ].

Quezon Province's local cuisine is Tagalog, but as the crossroads of Ilocano and Bicolano cultures, you can also find dishes from their respective regions as well.

Quezon dishes often include coconut ( gata ), which reflects in the province's large coconut industry and its Bicolano influences. Others originating from Quezon are:

  • Longanisa - The town of Lucban is also known for a variety of this sausage.
  • Pancit habhab - stir-fried noodles, served in a banana leaf and served without utensils. A local specialty of the town of Lucban.

Quezon is also known for pastries and snacks like budin , puto-bao , bonete , broas , kalamay , letse puto and yema cake.

Drink [ edit ]

Stay safe [ edit ], go next [ edit ].

You can head for Bicol , which just borders the province to the east. To the south, you can take a ferry to the island province of Marinduque .

The main way to get to Quezon from Manila is by riding a bus. There’s a lot of bus companies that offer rides to Lucena and one of which is JAC Liner in Buendia, Pasay. BEST TIME TO VISIT QUEZON

If you don’t know, the Philippines has only 2 seasons- wet and dry season. You should be prepared with the weather in Quezon because it is hot and humid during the months of March to May, and can extend up to June!

However, the wet season starts from June to November. But due to climate change (which affects the Philippines the most), the rainy season can start as early as 3rd week May.

We recommend that you visit Quezon during the month of January, as the weather is expected to be the coldest of the year plus you won’t compete with the locals during December’s holiday rush (traffic and all).

Top 20+ Quezon Province Tourist Spots, Hidden Beaches & Things to Do

Here is a comprehensive list of Quezon province tourist spots you should not miss. Aside from the best places to visit in Quezon province, we included the must-see off-beaten destinations and the most popular things to do.

Quezon Province is now a premium ecotourism site in the Philippines. Although it is very much accessible from Metro Manila, much of the province’s vast and varied landscapes remain unexplored. These are home to fascinating ecological wonders that will make up for a lifelong thrill and adventure.

Sure, there are well-documented tourism destinations in Quezon. But in its remote areas, one can find countless beaches, waterfalls, caves, and thriving forest ecosystems.

All these warrant the need for protection and sustainable management. Thankfully, eco-tourism is helping do just that.

If you’re planning to visit, here are the must-see destinations in Quezon you should not miss.

Behold Quezon Province Tourist Spot

1. mount banahaw.

Mount Banahaw is one of the Quezon province tourist spot/destinations. It is also one of the best places in Quezon province.

With an impressive height of 7,120 feet above sea level, Mt Banahaw is the highest mountain in the CALABARZON region. It is also one of the region’s last ecological frontiers, home to critically-endangered flora and fauna species.

Mt Banahaw covers an area of more than 10, 901 hectares that consist mainly of secondary forests on the lower slopes. Enchanting mossy forests, however, dominate the upper elevations.

When exploring the mountain, you’ll find numerous waterfalls, crystal-clear streams, caves, rock formations, and shrines. Since 2016, however, the local authorities closed Mt Banahaw for regeneration purposes.

2. Balagbag Falls

Balagbag Falls is one of the emerging tourist spots in Quezon province, especially for adventurers and nature lovers. It is a multi-tier waterfall surrounded by lush vegetation.

It’s also very much accessible, some 5 minutes of walk from the parking area. The first layer has a deep pool, fit for swimming. You can climb on one of the cliffs and jump towards the pool.

  • Location/Jump-off: Brgy Tingnoan, Real

3. Noknok Falls

travel brochure quezon province

Noknok Falls is just a kilometer away from Balagbag Falls, making it possible for you to visit and enjoy both in a day or less. It has a height of 10 meters with a naturally-built pool that is ideal for cliff-jumping.

Noknok Falls is one of the lesser-known tourist destinations and one of the best places to see in Quezon province.

  • Trekking Time: 10 minutes from the Real-Mauban Road

4. Polillo Group of Islands

Pollilo Island is one of the Quezon province tourist spot/destinations. It is also one of the best places in Quezon province.

It’s one of the best eco-tourism spots in Quezon province, consisting of 27 remote and unspoiled islands. Among the most popular destinations here are Pulong Kukok, Minasawa Bird Sanctuary, Anilon Island, Anawan Island, Isla Putting Bato, and Kabalu Sandbar.

There are also several caves for you to explore, including forest-clad and colossal limestone rock formations. If you’re after deserted beaches and pristine waters, you should come here.

But please, be responsible. Let us all help in keeping the islands’ pristine condition.

5. Borawan Beach

Balesin Beach is one of the top Quezon province tourist spots. Known for its white beaches with pristine waters, the island could easily make up for a lifelong adventure and fun.

Among the favorite things to do here are paddle boating, kayaking, bird watching, scuba diving, surfing, and sailing. If you’re up for more, stroll around the island and catch sight of huge limestone rock formations.

These limestone rocks will make you feel like you are in Coron or El Nido in Palawan.

  • Location/Jump-off: Pollilo

6. Quezon National Park

Quezon National Park is one of the Quezon province tourist spot/destinations. It is also one of the best places in Quezon province.

Quezon National Park hosts one of the few remaining natural ecosystems in Quezon. It is home to a variety of flora and fauna species, some of which are critically-endangered.

Many of the species here are found nowhere else in the world, making it a botanical paradise. Trekking to the deep forests will lead you to enchanting caves, and scenic peaks.

Sadly, deforestation for commercial purposes is slowly ravaging what remains of the park.

  • Location/Jump-off: Atimonan, Pagbilao, Padre Burgos

7. Mount Mirador

Mount Mirador is one of the Quezon province tourist spot/destinations. It is also one of the best places in Quezon province.

11. Dampalitan Island

travel brochure quezon province

Although it’s popularly promoted as an island, it is a beach on a small peninsula of mainland Quezon province. It has powdery white sands similar to those found in Boracay Island.

There are also pine forests lining the beach, and you can just lean on one of these and relax the whole day. There are cottages available if you plan to have an overnight stay.

  • Location/Jump-off: Padre Burgos
  • Boating Time: 15 minutes from Borawan Beach

12. Agos River

Agos River is one of the Quezon province tourist spot/destinations. It is also one of the best places in Quezon province.

Agos River is one of the cleanest rivers in Quezon province. The mighty river emanates from the forested mountains of Sierra Madre. For the Dumagat Indigenous Group, the river is sacred, therefore, tied to their cultural identity.

Sadly, a mega-dam project is threatening the river the local inhabitants, including abundant wildlife. Hopefully, the locals will continue to gain support in their campaign to save the Agos River from the Kaliwa Dam project.

  • Location/Jump-off: Infanta

13. Cagbalete Island

Cagbalete Island covers more than 1600 hectares, and on its coasts, you’ll find several beaches with powdery, white sands. During low tide, a beautiful sandbar forms.

The island is also known for its rich and thriving marine biodiversity. Among the activities, you can do here are horseback riding, bird watching, island hopping, and snorkeling.

For an overnight stay, there are a few accommodations available. But if I were you, I would choose camping on the beach to enjoy nature at its finest.

  • Boating Time: one hour from Mauban town

14. Alitap Falls

Alitap Falls is one of the Quezon province tourist spot/destinations. It is also one of the best places in Quezon province.

  • Location/Jump-off: Brgy Alitap, Mauban
  • Trekking Time: 3-4 hours

15. Dahoyhoy Falls

Among the twenty-plus falls found in Mauban, Dahoyhoy Falls is the most popular and accessible. Trails leading to it are well established. But even so, it remains a generally off-beaten Quezon destination. It’s only around 15 feet high with waters cascading on a seemingly-terraced rock platform.

  • Entrance Fee: Php 10 for adults, Php 5 for kids
  • Trekking Time: 30 minutes

But you don’t have to spend that kind of amount since there are budget-friendly options out there.

  • Location/Jump-off: Polilo Island

17. Kamay ni Hesus Shrine

If you’re after a memorable pilgrimage experience, especially during the Lenten season, you might want to visit Kamay ni Hesus Shrine. There is regular healing mass offered here.

Stay away from Dona Cholengs during peak season!

We were here for 4 days and 3 nights. Stayed in their nipa hut for 3 days and since i’m prepping my daughter for our Pulag climb next year, brought my tent and availed their tent accommodation on our last day, I’m not sure how this resort is handled but by the looks of it, either their staff are under paid or they don’t know what customer service is all about. I travel occasionally, approx. 4 times a year and had some shares of bad customer service but just kept it to myself. It takes a lot for me to vent out online so this means that’s how horrible their service is, in my honest opinion. I have high regards with the hospitality of people from Quezon (and Batangas) amongst their Luzon counterparts but this ALMOST changed it.

Things you need to watch out for: – Security is almost nonexistent. There are shifting roving guards (as I observe, 1 per shift) but they took it literally, yes, just roving. Swimming clothes left to dry and towels were stolen outside of our hut, which they claimed they ran after but wasn’t able to catch up. To think our hut is right infront of their restaurant where the roving guards usually stay. Later we found out that there’s another guest complaining of the same reason. The culprit was an apparent Cagbalete resident who they know but the resort did not take action about it and heck, did not even apologize for being incompetent securing their place. – Water smells funny and is intermittent. It takes approximately 10-15mins for them to restore water, so good luck to you when water runs out while taking a bath. For the funny smell, it resembles the smell of a septic tank (for lack of better comparison) but tolerable. – Restrooms are not maintained well. Few faucets are defective, clogged sink, leaking sink pipes, trash on trash bins are rarely disposed, some ventilation panel on the doors are missing / damaged leaving a hint on what you are up to to those people on queue, there were also cockroaches sharing the same bathroom with you. These are just to name a few. – Restaurant rates are way off mark compare to the prices they have in the port/palenke area. This I can tolerate if food quality is better than the ones in the port/palenke area. They don’t have service water which for is must when you run a restaurant. – In-house restaurant can’t accomodate much and not systematic during peak hours. One example is giving your orders to others in line (right away) when you are called while you stepped out real quick. – Lack of coordination with local authorities when it comes to cancellation of boat trips going out of Cagbalete due to inclement weather. Their typical answer to guests is, “baka payagan kayo dahil maganda ang panahon”, giving you false hopes. You need to go to the port area which is around 1km usually by foot from the resort for you to validate their claims. Well, that’s because they’re done with their business with you. – Unkept shoreline. I read a blog saying it’s futile for them to clean seaweeds on their shores during off peak season and usually does it during peak season but I did not see any part of the shoreline without seaweeds. Was wondering if they dont consider holy week a peak season. In addition, we saw few trash and driftwood floating but not all their fault since they share their shoreline with other resorts which I heard is also owned by their relatives. – And the last but not the least, after going thru these all, don’t expect to get an ice cold beer or even ice! But it’s ironic to see a halo-halo stall set up inside their resort. I have a small generator at home which runs 1 liter of gas an hour that can power up a mid size fridge during outages so I am not sure how they can’t do the same especially that they mark up their goods higher than the ones at the port area.

how disappointing. good thing u didnt hold back.

travel brochure quezon province

I cannot recommend this place. People in this place are tend to take advantage of the tourist they tend to overprice almost everything. From a overpriced private boat worth 3000 php two way and 2500 for 1 way for small group (4-6 person) and the price increase as your group member increase (for instance 12 person for 5500 on way trip) imagine!!!!!!. To a very simple favor you might ask to the local…. almost everything has a price……. One thing more some people in this place trickster in nature even a kid….. But to be fare the view of this island are great…… But it is enough that I see this Islands once I will not go back anymore…….

I had bad experience also during my visit 3 years ago. I thought there will be improvements already but apparently they are still charging high on the boat rides.

Beautiful! I can’t wait to see it… 😉

travel brochure quezon province

If you are planning to go to a beach and you are from Manila, I cannot recommend this place. I suggest to go to Laiya Batangas or Calatagan Batagas instead of this far away place.

Our family experienced a day trip to Villa Escudero this week and had a fantastic time. Our driver and guide picked us up at our residence in Manila and educated us on everything about the tour and fun Philippines facts throughout the drive. The driver was safe and smooth the entire way. We were greeted at the villa by two of the Escudero family and then proceeded by a water buffalo-drawn wagon to the truly unique waterfall lunch experience. The food buffet was excellent and we had fresh coconut drinks, fresh watermelon, and fresh mango on top of the main selections. Really, really filling and delicious. Our kids played in the resort-quality pools to cool off and we just explored a small chunk of the 800 hectares of property on the farm before being entertained by the cultural show in the shade of the big pavilion. This is one of the best family-friendly adventures you can experience within a couple hours of Manila. In fact, seeing the on-site cabins for overnight stay had us wishing we could have made a long weekend out of it (obviously, many people do). Even with a full day, there is so much more to explore on this beautiful property. Service: 5-stars Facilities: 5-stars Food: 5-stars Authenticity: 5-stars Overall: 5-stars Thanks for a truly great adventure!

You can go up to the second tier and jump off the cliff to get your adrenaline pumping. To get here, board a bus bound for Real, then alight at the Real-Mauban junction. The bus fare is around P170 to P195 depending on if you rode the ordinary or aircon bus. From the junction, board a jeep bound for Mauban and tell the driver you’re going to Balagbag. 8 Best Tourist Spots in Quezon Province 2023 (Guide, Travel Tips, Activities)

  • January 27, 2023

quezon province tourist spots

When it comes to stunning islands, white sand beaches, crystal blue oceans, and island hopping activities, Quezon Province has always been a favorite destination. Quezon holds the distinction of being one of the Philippines’ most cost-effective tourist attractions when compared to well-known locations that can set you back hundreds of pesos.

Quezon Province: 8 Must-Visit Tourist Spots

1. Alibijaban Island in San Andres, Quezon

The Philippines’ Bondoc Peninsula’s southeast coast is home to the small island of Alibijaban. It is coextensive with the barrio of the same name and has administrative ties to the municipality of San Andres in the province of Quezon .

It’s a sizable island! There are also several huts and lodging options there, but you can also bring your own tent and search for a better place to set it up. Since the Island is only powered by solar energy, there is a restricted supply of electricity there. You must pay 25 pesos to charge your devices.

Quezon Province: 8 Must-Visit Tourist Spots

On the island, there is a store where you can buy snacks, drinks, and other foods. You don’t need to be concerned about the meals because you may ask a local to prepare for you for a small cost. Please remember to bring your trash bags and properly dispose of your rubbish.

Among the things to do are:

  • Sunset/Sunrise views
  • Snorkeling (Tour at Sandbar and Mangroves area)
  • Island Hopping in Sombrero Island, Talisayan Island and Burias Island

The seashore and its crystal-clear waters are both clean. There won’t be a bunch of rowdy, loud campers because the area is remote and unpopulated. This location is ideal. It’s incredibly serene! Perfect for unwinding after a stressful day in the city. With its excellent white sand beach and mangrove environment, Alibijaban is quickly becoming a popular travel destination for backpackers.

2. Zigzag Road(Bitukang Manok), Atimonan Quezon

The Old Zigzag Road serves as a crossing point between Southern Philippines and Northern Quezon. One of the most hazardous routes in the nation is this one. Even the majority of drivers avoid using this route out of fear. For some people, it can be an adventure, but there is some risk involved.

The reason why this road is referred to as “Bitukang Manok” by the locals is compelling—they think it resembles the structure of a chicken’s intestine. If one can understand Filipino, the name alone tells how hazardous the journey is.

 Zigzag Road(Bitukang Manok), Atimonan Quezo

In 1969, during the administration of former President Ferdinand Marcos, road building was carried out. The well-known route through Quezon National Park is the zigzag road. Before traveling on this road, check the condition of your car’s engine. In order to cross the street, your car must ascend the mountain. The trail will be completed in at least 15 minutes. On your ascent, you’ll pass a breathtaking view.

The road is congested. While using this route, one must pay attention to traffic lights and road signs posted by the traffic police. Due to this road’s congestion, you might occasionally need to stop and let other drivers pass. This road becomes much more hazardous when it rains since it might get slick. Do not even consider looking outside your car if you are afraid of heights. So stay sober when operating the vehicle. Panicking and losing control of the steering will result in falling off the cliff. Numerous traffic police officials will be present along the route, doing their best to reduce the number of accidents in the region.

Many bikers and riders use this road in search of adventure, and they upload their videos on YouTube. You can watch such films to get a sense of what riding a motorcycle is like. But you have to be careful to slow down in slick regions. To reduce the risk of an accident, make sure your tires have a good grip. There is now a New Diversion Road in case you want a safer route. Although it is substantially wider, getting to your location will take an additional 10 minutes.

3. Malinao Spring Resort in Lucban, Quezon

For only 20 Pesos, anyone can visit this spring resort in Quezon with the clearest water.

Near the boundaries of Lucban, Quezon, Majayjay, and Laguna is where you may find the Malinao or Malinaw Spring and Resort. In addition to serving the well-known Longganisang Lucban and pancit habhab, the resort is ideally positioned along the Lucban River at the base of Mount Banahaw.

Malinao Spring Resort in Lucban, Quezon

The location is lovely, the spring water is free of chlorine, and Mount Banahaw is the source of the spring. For pictures on social media, it works beautifully! The resort is known for its crystal-clear water, as the name suggests. You will feel renewed as you dive into its crystal-clear water. White Water Rafting is an enjoyable activity, especially if you go with adventure-seeking friends, and various groups are giving their services just a few meters from the resort.

The Malinao Spring Resort is surrounded by nature due to its location at the base of Mt. Banahaw. You can explore the area and discover a variety of trees and creatures. There are many activities at the Malinao Spring Resort, making it the ideal weekend getaway, especially if you’re stressed out. You will feel pleased and peaceful thanks to the beauty and ambiance it provides.

Things to do in the area: Go for a swim in the cold, revitalizing water.

  • Prepare your preferred foods while admiring the scenery.
  • Take photos to preserve the memories.

4. Borawan Island, Padre Burgos, Quezon Province

You may satisfy your desire for the beach at Borawan Island Resort . Due to the similarities in the white sand and limestone rock formations of this famous beach, which is located in Padre Burgos, Quezon Province, it was named after two other famous beaches in the Philippines, namely Boracay and Palawan. It’s a quick getaway with a breath-taking vista because it’s only a four-hour journey from the Metro. The island of Borawan definitely offers more than you’ll pay for, whether you want to swim there or kayak through the crystal-clear waters.

Borawan Island, Padre Burgos, Quezon Province

Island hopping is another activity available in Borawan, Quezon Province, giving visitors the full holiday they are entitled to. The three distinct stations fully meet the vacationers’ desired sleeping arrangements, which can include tents, villas, and hotel rooms. To top it all off, the island features a shop and café that satisfies the visitors’ appetites.

This is a great spot to relax and escape the worries of the outside world. It makes sense that tents were being set up on the opposite side of the island the day we visited.

So the next time you want to get away from the city and go on a beach vacation with your loved ones, Borawan is the ideal destination.

5. Kamay Ni Hesus Shrine in Lucban, Quezon

About 119 kilometers south of Metro Manila, in Barangay Tinamnan, Lucban, is where you’ll find the Kamay Ni Hesus Shrine . It may be accessed from the Lucban-Tayabas Road. One of the most well-known religious sites in Quezon Province is the Kamay Ni Hesus Shrine (also known as the Kamay ni Hesus Healing Church). 5 hectares of land are taken up by the church and the nearby buildings. It’s a Catholic church with a Noah’s Ark replica, a kid-friendly park, a lovely pond, and more.

Kamay Ni Hesus Shrine in Lucban - Quezon Province Tourist Spot

The villagers hold a deep respect for the Kamay ni Hesus site. The shrine site may be interesting to visit even if you are not a Catholic. It is currently a well-liked destination for pilgrims who want to offer prayers for healing or to confess their sins. The expansive grounds of the property are beautiful, serene, and restful aside from the chapel.

You are welcome to stroll across the property and take in the splendor of nature. But you can also make the 300-step ascent to see the well-known, enormous statue of Jesus Christ that is perched on a hill. The ascent is particularly worthwhile for the top-down vista of Lucban, Quezon Province. Kamay Ni Hesus is in charge of Garden of Eden, a small playground and gift shop. There are additional parking places for people that drive.

6. Kwebang Lampas/Puting Buhangin in Pagbilao Quezon

One of the beaches that has grown in popularity over the past several years is Puting Buhangin, a small area of white sand tucked away in a Pagbilao Grande Island corner. Despite being hidden behind Pagbilao Power Station, it has managed to keep its pure and natural atmosphere. (Just ignore the massive chimney of the power plant that protrudes into the air from a canopy of lush vegetation.)

Kwebang Lampas/Puting Buhangin in Pagbilao Quezon

It takes four to five hours to drive from Metro Manila to reach the renowned Kwebang Lampas , which is situated in Isla Polo, Pagbilao Quezon Province. The island’s name was essentially given because, in addition to a white sand beach and crystal-clear waters, it also has a wonderful cave that may be explored from 7 am to 10 am during low tide.

Puting Buhangin is a very short strip that can be traversed in a few minutes, making peak season a crowded time.

7. Kamayan sa Palaisdaan Resort, Lucban Quezon

The Kamayan sa Palaisdaan Resort , which is situated in Barangay Dapdap, Tayabas City, gives visitors the option to reserve any of their fully air-conditioned lodgings, including the Standard Room, the Deluxe Suite, the Dormitory, the VIP Room, and the Restroom. These accommodations all feature flat-screen TVs, complimentary pool access, and wifi access at the resort.

The renowned Kamayan sa Palaisdaan f loating restaurant is another of these amenities. Here, you may enjoy delectable seafood delicacies in charming nipa huts above the lake.

Kamayan sa Palaisdaan Resort Quezon Province

In addition to the floating Kamayan sa Palaisdaan Restaurant Quezon Province, the resort offers two further unique dining alternatives. In the first, you can eat in a submerged cottage as fish swim around and nibble at your feet at Fisherslake. The second is the Air Summit Gourmet, a chic restaurant housed inside of a grounded plane.

You can also engage in leisure activities like horseback riding or taking a stroll around the resort’s eco-park and lagoon. If you want to visit the nearby sights, the resort is also 14.3 kilometres from the Bulusukan River & Eco Park and 16.8 km from the Calumpang Hanging Bridge.

8. Silangang Nayon Park and Restaurant, Pagbilao Quezon

With views of Tayabas Bay, Pagbilao Grande, and the surrounding mountains, this resort provides a tranquil haven.

Accommodations at the resort have views of the garden, bay, or swimming pool. There is a well regarded restaurant there that offers riverfront dining, where you may eat Filipino-Chinese cuisine. It also provides a variety of recreational opportunities, such as kayaking, fishing, and island hopping so that you may explore the adjacent islands and mangrove region.

Foodie Tour

Pancit Habhab

The foods of Quezon are famous for their unique tastes. Lucban longganisa isn’t your typical sweet Filipino sausage; its taste falls on the garlicky and salty side.

Quezon also has its own version of pancit, pancit habhab, a type of Miki noodles cooked with sayote, pork meat, soy sauce, and vinegar.  Aside from these two, hardinera, Budin, and yema cake are the foods you should try when you visit.

travel brochure quezon province

Nueva Ecija is a land-locked province situated at the central plains of the Philippine’s Luzon island. Located about 180 kilometers from Manila, it is dubbed as the Rice Granary of the Philippines due to its vast plains of rice fields. Tourist attractions are few and far between across its five cities and twenty seven towns, but worry not, there are still places to visit in Nueva Ecija. It may not have any beaches, but it has an abundance of rivers to explore, a few waterfalls, and a lot of historical places. Although Palayan City is the provincial capital of Nueva Ecija, Cabanatuan City is the more commonly associated one with the province and is easier to access than the former. I would be basing this travel guide with Cabanatuan being the point of destination.

HOW TO GET TO NUEVA ECIJA

The province of Nueva Ecija, thru Cabanatuan City, is easily reachable from Metro Manila through numerous bus lines plying the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and the Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) . Travel time is about three to four hours, depending on the traffic. Most, if not all buses, stop at Cabanatuan City’s central bus terminal, found just a little bit on the outskirts of the downtown area. Currently, there are no commercial airports in Nueva Ecija.

Metro Manila to Cabanatuan City By Bus

METRO MANILA TO CABANATUAN BY BUS ○ 3-4 HOURS TRAVEL TIME ○ FARE ₱190.00 +/- Numerous bus lines travel to Cabanatuan City on an hourly and daily basis. Most of these are located in Caloocan, Pasay, and Quezon City (Cubao). Travel time takes approximately three to four hours, depending on the route your chosen bus takes. Take the ones with the signboard Cabanatuan or San Jose Via SCTEX for a shorter journey time. Buses are generally air-conditioned, with a fare of ₱190.00+/-, but there are still ordinary buses if you want to save a bit on expenses. ● BALIWAG TRANSIT - Caloocan , Cubao | (02) 912-3361 ● ES TRANSPORT - Cubao | (02) 912-5975, (02) 421-4339 ● FIVE STAR - Cubao , Pasay | (02) 851-6614, (02) 851-6659 ● GENESIS (BALER-BOUND) - Cubao | (02) 709-0803, (02) 421-1425 ● VICTORY LINER (TUGUEGARAO-BOUND) -   Kamias , Pasay , Manila , Caloocan | (02) 727-4688

Baguio City to Cabanatuan City By Bus

BAGUIO CITY TO CABANATUAN BY BUS ○ 4 HOURS TRAVEL TIME ○ FARE ₱180.00 +/- Currently, there’s only one bus line plying the Cabanatuan to Baguio route, Summer Bloom Transport (₱180.00+/-, ordinary and air-conditioned, 4 hours travel time). One can also take vans, which are a bit faster than buses (₱250+/-, 3.5 hours travel time).

GETTING AROUND NUEVA ECIJA

Getting Around Nueva Ecija

Cabanatuan is dubbed as the Tricycle Capital of the Philippines . Just go to the area near the public market and you’d understand why. With that, the tricycle is really the preferred mode of transportation, not only in Cabanatuan, but also the other municipalities and cities in Nueva Ecija. Minimum fare is set at ₱10.00. For longer journeys, there are also jeepneys available, but mostly on the city centers only.

NUEVA ECIJA ORGANIZED TOURS & GUIDES

Organized Tours In Nueva Ecija

As far as I know, there are no organized tours around the province of Nueva Ecija. During one of my visits though, Microtel Cabanatuan organized one for us using their hotel van. You may contact them at this number: (0927) 804-2929.

WHERE TO STAY IN NUEVA ECIJA

Most of the accommodations I know in Nueva Ecija are concentrated in Cabanatuan City. While there are inns and hotels around other towns in the province, it is really easier to start your sightseeing tour with Cabanatuan as your base of operation. As of the moment, there are no five-star hotels in the city, but there are pretty decent lodging houses where you can spend your night in.

Cabanatuan City Hotels

WHERE TO EAT IN NUEVA ECIJA

To be honest, I haven’t really tried eating out on most parts of Nueva Ecija except Cabanatuan City. From the little time I spent on the city’s restaurants, I never once got disappointed. Actually, I was fairly surprised at the number of good places to eat in Cabanatuan and at the quality of their dishes. Most serve Filipino and Western cuisines.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN NUEVA ECIJA

Nueva Ecija is recognized for producing tons and tons of rice but it’s not really known as a tourism hub. You can literally count the number of tourist spots along its almost 6,000 square kilometers of land, but to be fair, one can still get something out of a visit to the province. Besides the earmarked tourism places in the area, one can also enjoy the seemingly never-ending scenes of pastoral rice fields, small brooks, and serene rivers that dot the entire province.

WHAT TO BUY IN NUEVA ECIJA

If you’re looking for the usual city shirts, mugs, key chains, and ref magnets, Nueva Ecija might not be the place for you. Tourist trinkets are virtually unknown in this part of the Philippines. What you can bring home though are delicious packs of local sausage or longganisa, especially those found in Cabanatuan City.

NUEVA ECIJA SAMPLE ITINERARY & BUDGET

Visiting the known tourist spots in Nueva Ecija will, surprisingly, take three full days. The main reason being that most of these are located far from each other. I suggest you base your stay at Cabanatuan City, as it is the easiest town you can reach via public transport and there are a lot of good food places within the area. If you don’t have enough time, you may skip on a few places and limit your stay to two days. And if you have more time to spare, I suggest you add a day or two on your itinerary to visit the many Cabanatuan rice fields and rivers and its neighboring towns. Below is a sample itinerary maxing out the full potential of Nueva Ecija’s identified tourist spots.

The Isdaan Floating Resto-Fun Park located along Maharlika Highway, Barangay Bagong Silang, Talavera, Nueva Ecija is now open. It is a 9-hectare restaurant-park complex which features gigantic statues like Buddhas, Zodiac Sign Symbols, Hulk, genie, golden carabao, monkies and many more, an underwater bridge, floating huts, and the famous "Tacsiyapo" wall. It a fun place to visit where you can savor authentic Filipino dishes and be amazed at the wonderful works of art scattered around the park.
