Ways to Stay at the KOA

KOA’s offer many types of ways to stay at their campgrounds. From roughing it in a tent, to staying in a treehouse, you can find a unique experience to make your trip one to remember. You can make this a glamping trip to remember with many of the fun ways to stay.

• Full Hook Up RV KOA Sites : Full hook up sites are exactly how they sound. They allow you to hook up your campers sewer, water, and electric so you can essentially stay as long as you would like without having to move your RV for filling water or dumping grey or black water tanks. These are offered in both 30 and 50 amp services.
• Water/Electric RV KOA Sites : A water/electric KOA site will have water and electric utilities. In order to dump your tanks, you will need to move your trailer or RV to their designated dump areas. This is a good choice for pop up campers or campers that will not use much water and need to move their RV often.
• Dry Hookup KOA Sites: These sites only offer electric for your camper. They will keep your trailer charged and ready to go, but to fill water or dump tanks you will need to go to the designated station. Luckily, all KOA campgrounds offer full showers and restrooms.
• Pull Through KOA Sites: A pull through KOA site will allow you to pull your motorhome or travel trailer in one way and out the other so you don’t have to back in or navigate through a tight area. This is great for larger RV’s or for inexperienced drivers.
• Back In KOA Sites: Back in sites allow you to back your camper into position and unhitch. These typically will offer better privacy as compared to pull through sites as they may be located towards the outskirts of the campground.
• RV Sites with KOA Patio: This is one of the best type of sites, the patio site. KOA offers their signature spacious patio area as well as extra amenities such as picnic tables, patio furniture, fire features, bbq’s and much more.
• KOA Tent Sites: Tent sites at the KOA are very nice as well. They will offer a flat designated are for your tent as well as a picnic table and area for play. Tent sites come with electric so you can keep all of your devices charged to capture your adventure,
• KOA Cabins: Staying at one of the KOA cabins can be a fun adventure if you are not up to tenting it and do not own an RV. Cabins offer electricity, one or two bedroom configurations, private or shared restrooms, porches, swings, TV’s, grills, fire pits, kitchenettes, as well as patios.
• Airstream Camping at the KOA: Many KOA’s offer iconic Airstreams for rent. They offer the the convenance of a trailer without having to take on all of the ownership responsibilities. Renting an Airstream can be a fun way to get out of the house this summer and have that trip to remember.
• Caboose Camping at the KOA: Who wouldn’t want to stay in an old caboose? Staying in one of these restored cabooses can really be a unique experience. Caboose camping is only available at select KOA campgrounds so make sure to reach out before.
• Teepees at the KOA : Teepee camping offers a unique camping experience that dates back many years. Teepee camping at the KOA can be more of a luxury with amenities like electricity, futons, fire pits, as well as group villages so you can bring all of your friends for a great weekend.
• Yurt Camping at the KOA: A Yurt is a round type of tent originating back to Central Asia. They have a door and are made of wood or canvas. Yurt camping offers a an experience with furniture as well as a bed to lay your head.
• KOA Treehouse Camping : Who wouldn’t want to camp in a tree house? Tree houses can be rented at select KOA locations. They are elevated of f of the ground and offer decks, comfortable furniture, as well as other amenities such as electric.

Final Thoughts on KOA Camping

Although staying at a KOA may not be the cheapest option, we have found it is one of our favorite types of campgrounds to use. KOA does have a membership that gets you 10% off camping as well as many discounts all around the country. It is worth the price just for some of the pizza coupons.

Just like with many franchises, there is a standard of quality we have seen and enjoy knowing what we are signing up for. We have been to several campgrounds (non KOA) that are not quite exact representations of the photos from their website. We have a little one and enjoy the extras we have found that the KOA provides.

Is a KOA Worth it? We believe camping at a KOA is worth it, the consistency, cleanliness, pools, hot tubs, as well as additional amenities are well worth it for our family on our trips.

Is a KOA Membership worth it? Depending on how long you stay and if you use the associated coupons, it is worth it. The current price is $33 per year. You will save 10% per stay meaning you only have to spend $333 in camping fees to get your money back. If you use their rewards and coupon program, you can save much more money than you pay for the membership. For example, Mod Pizza has a KOA coupon of buy 1 get one free. This will save you $8.88 per trip, so your savings can add up over time.

How much does it cost to camp at the KOA? KOA campgrounds vary in price depending on the type of space such as tent or RV, as well as the time of year. Check your KOA website for you specific dates and requirements.

Are KOA campgrounds open to the public? Yes, KOA campgrounds are available to the public, you do not need a membership to camp. A membership will get you discounts on your stay as well as local coupons to use at many participating businesses.

Can you tent camp at the KOA? Yes, KOA campgrounds offer premium tent sites with flat tent areas and electricity. If you are tenting it you can enjoy all of the amenities the KOA has to offer.

KOA (Kampgrounds of America) destinations have long been a staple of the American camping scene, offering well-maintained facilities in scenic locations across the United States and Canada.

Many KOA campgrounds offer convenient access to nearby attractions, making them an ideal choice for RVers who want to explore the surrounding area.

KOA campgrounds, or Kampgrounds of America, are a national chain of campgrounds that offer a variety of accommodations to suit any type of traveler. Since there are over 500 KOAs located throughout the United States and Canada, travelers can easily find one near their desired destination.

With KOAs, you can choose to stay in cabins, deluxe rental accommodations, tent camping sites, or RV sites. Let’s dive into the specific options for staying at a KOA.

KOA Basic Camping Cabins

KOAs offer both basic cabins and deluxe cabins to meet anyone’s needs for an overnight stay. Sometimes you want something a little more sturdy than tent camping. Cabins offer protection from the elements and area wildlife or a more comfortable way to stay for your trip.

A typical basic cabin rental at the KOA is a one-bedroom cabin with a sleeping area. Some camping cabins have a bed and bunk beds. They have electricity, air conditioning, and often a little covered porch with a swing.

This one-room cabin is a more comfortable option than tent camping but is still very basic and affordable. There is no kitchen or bathroom in the basic cabins. There is a nearby campground bathroom with showers to use while staying in the basic cabin rentals.

KOA Deluxe Cabins

A KOA Deluxe Cabin has all of the comforts of home in a tiny rental. Most Deluxe Cabins offer a separate bedroom, and some have a loft area for additional sleeping. They have a full kitchen with a stove, microwave, and refrigerator. There is also a bathroom with a shower.

This is a popular option for a more comfortable stay with extra sleeping areas and a way to make your own food during the trip. This can be a great way to experience staying in a campground with camping activities included while still having all of the comforts of home.

Rental Airstream Trailers

Wish you could try out RV camping but don’t have an RV? Some KOA locations now offer rental Airstream RVs that you can stay in. This could be a fun vacation idea or even a way to try out RV camping before deciding to purchase one.

Camping in a KOA Airstream gives you the full camping experience without all of the work. The RV is already completely set up, so all you have to do is show up and enjoy your stay.

A few KOA locations that currently have Airstream RV rentals include the Bar Harbor KOA in Maine, the Crystal River KOA Holiday in Colorado, and the Monterey Bay KOA Holiday in California.

Fun Non-Traditional KOA Rentals

Some KOAs also have exciting non-traditional rentals that could be a blast to have a vacation in. Some unique options include staying in a tree house, a glamping tent, a covered wagon, a yurt, a caboose, or even a tepee!

Have a train lover in your family? Then renting a train caboose to stay in could be the trip of a lifetime. Some KOA locations have restored old train cabooses and turned them into the perfect trip accommodation.

Have a Little House on the Prairie fan in your household? How about a one-of-a-kind stay in a covered Conestoga wagon featuring bunk beds? These rentals are found at the Oregon Dunes KOA Holiday in Oregon and the North Cascades National Park KOA in Washington.

The most commonly offered alternative rentals are tepees, yurts, and glamping tents. These options are offered at many KOA locations, so you have a better chance of finding one available in your trip location. How fun!

These campgrounds are typically larger than the average Journey sites and often include more activities and scheduled events. Amenities may include swimming pools, bike rentals, mini golf, fishing ponds, and playgrounds.

KOA Resort – The Destination for Recreation

KOA Resort campgrounds offer a more upscale experience with many amenities and activities available to campers . In addition to the traditional camping sites offered at all KOAs, rental cabins or Airstream trailers may also be available for rent.

Pros of Choosing KOA Campgrounds

One of the biggest reasons people stay at KOAs trip after trip is their consistency. Even though KOAs are privately owned, they have the same look and feel and similar amenities across all locations.

Many campers like that they can travel across the country and know what to expect. This reduces pulling in and not being pleased with the campground.

KOAs are located all across the US and even in Canada. Finding one near where you plan to take a trip is easy and convenient. Most tourist areas and natural attractions have a location nearby which makes these campgrounds a popular choice.

KOAs usually have well-kept facilities, often including shower bathrooms, a campground store, a laundry facility, an off-leash dog run, and a recreation room. Some locations also offer ice cream or food items.

Depending on the category of KOA you are staying at, most locations have many recreational amenities. Common things to do include swimming pools, jumping pillows, gem mining, movie screen nights, mini golf, bike rental, basketball, climbing walls, playgrounds, and horseshoe pits.

Cons of Choosing KOA Campgrounds

There are, however, some drawbacks to staying at KOA campgrounds. One of the largest cons to KOAs is the price. It is a much more expensive place to stay in your RV versus some other cheaper privately owned RV campgrounds, state parks, or boondocking.

The campsites are often very close together with limited space and privacy. They can also be crowded, especially during peak seasons and holidays. Many campers prefer staying in a more natural setting with larger campsites and more privacy. You won’t usually find that style of camping with KOA campsites.

The different types of KOAs have different amenities, but almost all offer bathrooms, campsite tents, RV sites, and separate cabins.

KOA, or Kampgrounds of America, is a system of campgrounds owned privately, with over five hundred locations found across Canada and the United States. KOA is among the world’s most extensive systems.

The focus is to connect individuals to the outdoors and each other. The campgrounds make it easier to access and enjoy nature as well as share adventures with friends and family members.

KOA also ensures that people access amenities that provide perfect places outdoors and enjoy camping. It is for people who are looking for enjoyment outside of their typical environments.

Whether it is an ideal site you are looking for or you need a cozy spot than your familiar home environment, KOA provides ideal campsites for such people.

There are three different types of KOA campgrounds, each one targeting different types of campers, namely;

KOA journey

• KOA holiday

How to join KOA

To join KOA, one needs to get a KOA membership which means that one has to get a discount card. Ownership of this card gives you access to various benefits, with the current cost being $33 a year.

The $33 fee applies to every individual as yearly charges. With KOA’s membership, the members benefit from the 10% off daily registration rates at any campground.

They also earn rewards points toward future stays, coupons, and appreciation weekend free stays during the VKR.

However, any camper does not need to have a KOA membership to be allowed at any of the locations. The campgrounds are accessible to all public regardless of the person’s membership status.

KOA positions its campgrounds along main roads and travelling routes so campers can easily access them. This makes it convenient for travelers to access the campgrounds and have enough time to relax and enjoy the place.

Is it worth joining?

For campers who love camping frequently, joining KOA is worth doing. While camping with family members or a group of friends seems to be an inexpensive way to spend quality time with loved ones, it can be much more expensive when you don’t have a KOA membership.

KOA membership saves a great deal as it grants members access to many campsites across Canada and United States. It also allows for bonding and connecting with friends with the large cabins that accommodate about eight people.

To understand whether joining KOA is worth it or not, let’s take a look at the benefits one enjoys with a KOA membership. Benefits of KOA membership

KOA offers a wide range of benefits for its members. They include;

Camping discounts

The main benefit of joining KOA is the 10% discount on every nightly camping rate at the KOA camping grounds.

Without a membership, one has to pay between $40 and $100 for one night of camping, but with a membership, one’s reward saves you about $4 to $10 daily.

Free camping night

Usually, when one is a member, they are entitled to a free stay with reward points. Additionally, the KOA rewards allow members to have one free night of camping.

The company hosts KOA rewards weekend, where the members are allowed to have free nights camping yearly. The campers who have bookings for Friday night can stay free on a Saturday night.

This free camping weekend is usually scheduled for early and mid-September, immediately after Labor Day weekend.

Reward points

The campers with KOA membership earn reward points for every night they are camping at the campground. The points can be redeemed for dollars off future stays.

The nightly points range from 600 to 1625 based on the price paid or the available points. The points do not expire as long one keeps their loyalty account active.

Campers also benefit from the 250 additional points they earn when making their reservation through the KOA website. Every $10, $25, and $50 reward, the camper earns 6500, 15000, and 25000 points, respectively.

Enjoy special RV and travel discounts

As a KOA member, you not only benefit from the KOA campgrounds discounts but also receive other special savings from companies such as KOA health, Goodyear Tires, RV Loan Center by Dish TV, and Allstate RV Road help.

In addition to the normal member benefits, the members who earn more than 20,000 points are automatically elevated to KOA VIPs and benefit from the VIP rewards. These members receive benefits such as;

Free membership renewal

Members with 20,000 reward points receive a free renewal of the KOA rewards membership. This benefit applies every year the member accumulates 20,000 points. This means that most campers pay for their first-year membership. Once they reach the VIP status, their membership is automatically renewed.

More points

The VIP members whose accounts have been promoted to VIP status earn 25% more reward points for every stay than the usual member. This means that the VIPS will earn more camping discounts fast.

Cancellation fees are waived

Sometimes, people would want to cancel their reservation at the last minute. The good thing about being a VIP camper is that you enjoy a 10% cancellation fee for the RV site or tent as long the cancellation call is done more than 48 hours in advance.

A discount to bring a friend

If the VIP KOA member comes with a friend, the friend also receives 10% off the regular campsite rate for up to four nights. However, for the discount to apply, the member has to be camping for the entire period at the same KOA.

KOA membership cost

The cost of KOA varies depending on the camping one intends to do and the time of the year.

For the KOA RVs campground, the average price for a night stay is $41 to $81.

The camping cabins range from $54 to $250 for a single night, and the tents cost about $24 to $80 a night. KOA determines the price depending on the number of nights spent at the camp.

The campers access up to 55% off for those who stay for long. If you are a long-term camper, the least you can pay for a month is $600.

The traveler should also pay a non-refundable fee of $100 to help preserve their spot for the one-month stay. This is because usually, these places are hotspots, and many people need their services; hence challenging to make a reservation the same day and get a place to stay.

What are the three levels of KOA campgrounds

There are different types or levels of KOA campgrounds, each with different amenities. However, these kinds provide restrooms, RV sites, showers, and tent sites. These campgrounds include; KOA journey, KOA Holiday, and KOA resort.

This category is the simplest of KOA, with many things to offer. They have cabins to accommodate families of different sizes and almost always include a place to sit outside and a fire pit.

The KOA Journey campgrounds are usually found between big destination cities, making them a suitable place to stop.

The campers are charged roughly $30 to spend the night while using cabins without a bathroom but are located near the amenities cost $55. The lucrative cabins charge $100 to use, with the cost of the RV spot being roughly $50.

KOA family holiday

These campgrounds are typically located close to significant cities allowing the campers to camp while exploring the cities. In these campgrounds, one will find renovated Deluxe cabins and huge patio sites for RV enthusiasts.

This campsite is an excellent option for families who want a family-friendly environment near major tourist destinations.

The tent sites cost as low as $30 for the night, but the huge cabins cost roughly $125. At this campground, you can find a cabin that can accommodate more than seven people, which is ideal for large families who travel together.

The RV enthusiasts will not miss something of their own as they are allowed access to a private patio for $95.

As the name suggests, this campground offers a luxury stay. These sites are, in and of themselves, destinations. The campers do not have to go outside the KOA looking for world-class amenities because everything is brought within your reach and access.

Amenities such as gyms, on-site restaurants, basketball courts, coffee shops, and tennis courts are within the KOA. However, it is advisable to book these RV sites and the Cabins in advance since they sell out fast.

The shooting happened at the campground near the I-25 and Purcell Boulevard intersection around 11 a.m. on December 29. In January, 54-year-old Steven Hollingworth was arrested for allegedly shooting a 30-year-old man after an argument.

Hollingworth plead guilty to second-degree attempted murder. He is currently being held in the Pueblo County Jail, and will be sentenced on June 11.

The sheriff's office says the man was shot several times that morning and had to be flown to a Colorado Springs hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Perry's Koa Peat repeats as Gatorade Arizona high school basketball Player of the Year

Koa Peat has been named Gatorade Arizona high school boys basketball Player of the Year for a second straight season after leading Gilbert Perry to its third consecutive state championship and second in the Open Division.

Peat, a 6-foot-8 junior, is rated by recruiting services among the top five 2025 prospects in the nation. He has won two gold medals the last two summers playing for Team USA age-group teams in international play.

"Koa probably impacts winning more than any player in the state," coach Sam Duane Jr., said. "His performance and leadership on and off the court make him very deserving of this award."

All that's left for Peat is finishing his Perry career next year with a fourth state title and a decision on which college he will choose.

Peat averaged 20.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, one steal and 2.2 blocks (65 total) during the season, as the Pumas went 25-6, beating Goodyear Millennium 71-67 for their second straight Open title.

Peat was the Gatorade and Arizona Republic Player of the Year as a sophomore, when he combined with 6-8 Cody Williams (now at Colorado) as a devastating duo wiping out the Open field to the crown.

"His work ethic, unselfishness and great desire to win," Duane about Peat's main traits that separate him from most his age in the nation. "He can guard one to five. He protects the rim. He can distribute the ball. He can score from all three levels and he is a great teammate."

Peat played the final quarter of this past state championship game with four fouls, but coach Sam Duane Jr., never considered taking him out, knowing how smart Peat was to avoid another foul while still making an impact.

He finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds and four assists but he was quick to give credit to the rest of the team .

"Those are my guys," Peat said after that win at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on March 2. "I don't think I played the best game personally. But they picked me up. For everybody to say that this is a one-man army, it's not."
