Celebrity Edge

Debuted in December 2018, the 2,918-passenger Celebrity Edge stands out for its modernity. The Edge is dressed to the nines in contemporary designs and features a diverse array of technologies, amenities, activities and dining venues on board. Passengers can delight in the ship's rooftop garden, take a dip in one of many ocean-facing pools, work up a sweat on the jogging track or relax at the on-site spa.

You'll find plenty of evening entertainment options, too, including themed bars and lounges, a club and a theater showcasing a variety of productions. The Edge was the first Celebrity ship fitted with the Magic Carpet – the line's cantilevered venue at sea that travels 13 stories. The open-air venue can be repositioned alongside several decks, allowing it to transform from a live music venue to a bar to an exclusive specialty restaurant, depending on its location.

For dining, passengers have 29 options to choose from. These include four main restaurants and specialty options serving a range of cuisines, from sashimi to French bistro classics. After a bite to eat, take a break and relax in your modern stateroom or suite. Every room offers technology that allows guests to control temperature, service and lighting with a touch screen. What's more, with a roughly 2-to-1 passenger-to-crew ratio, service across the ship will be spot on.

Seabourn Odyssey

The 458-passenger Seabourn Odyssey began sailing in June 2009 and – like its sister ships – is an all-suite vessel. It received an extensive renovation in summer 2019 to update its interior design, entertainment venues and technology. Travelers can enjoy complimentary Champagne upon arrival, fresh fruit daily and 24-hour room service, plus everyone has access to a personal suite stewardess for additional requests. Each cabin is equipped with a separate living area and bedroom, a stocked bar, a flat-screen television, a walk-in closet and a bathroom with a tub, shower and dual sinks.

The four dining options aboard the Seabourn Odyssey range from casual poolside fare, such as pizzas and salads, to The Grill by Thomas Keller, which serves upscale meals and tasty libations. Post-dinner, travelers can relax with a cocktail at one of the bars or test their luck at the casino. The Seabourn Odyssey also offers nightly entertainment like movies under the stars and dance parties on the boat's deck.

Onboard amenities on this ship include two pools, five outdoor hot tubs, a fitness center, a nine-hole putting green and a spa. The ship also allows cruisers to enjoy water sports equipment like kayaks, paddle boats and Hobie Cat sailboats in select destinations.

As part of Oceania's fleetwide revamp, Regatta was completely redesigned in September 2019. Passengers in Veranda Staterooms and Suites will enjoy verandas and spaces ranging from 216 to 1,000 square feet, while Inside and Ocean View cabins are smaller. The ship now offers solo staterooms for those who are traveling alone. No matter which you choose, all staterooms are equipped with minibars, flat-screen TVs and 24-hour room service, plus all-new furnishings and marble bathrooms.

The 670 passengers will receive Oceania's signature service, with 400 crew members catering to guests' needs. Recent cruisers noted they rarely encountered crowds in the ship's public areas. The atmosphere aboard Regatta is decidedly adult, as the ship caters to older, affluent cruisers.

Entertainment varies from nightly musical performances to table games at the casino. Dining is also diverse: Regatta offers five venues ranging from the formal dining room to a casual grill. All-new plant-based menu items are also available.

Norwegian Joy

Built in 2017, the 3,804-passenger, 1,821-crew-member Norwegian Joy was refurbished in 2020. Accommodation options include Inside, Oceanview and Balcony staterooms, as well as Suites, Concierge rooms (which come with concierge service) and The Haven cabins (which include 24-hour butler service and private sundecks). 

There are 11 dining venues on board including eight specialty restaurants, the latter of which offers American, French, Japanese, Italian, Mexican and Thai cuisines. Complimentary restaurants include the ship's three main dining rooms.

Cruisers will find plenty of things to do on board, from shopping at duty-free stores and luxury boutiques to watching stand-up comedians. The ship also offers a spa, laser tag, a racetrack, a casino, mini-golf, a fitness center, two aqua parks and more. 

Norwegian Joy sails from Miami , Los Angeles , New York , Panama City and Quebec City  to ports across the Caribbean, the Mexican Riviera, Bermuda and more.

Launched in 2012, Oceania Riviera is scheduled to complete a refubishment in December 2022. The upgrade will feature new furnishings, remodeled bathrooms, lighting and additional outlets and USB ports.  Oceania Riviera features larger staterooms than the line's older ships. The 1,250-passenger, 800-crew-member ship is identical to Oceania Marina and includes Inside, Ocean View and Veranda staterooms. The ship also offers suites that range from 420 to 2,000 square feet. While all cabins include minibars, full-size bathtubs and flat-screen TVs, suites add perks like 24-hour butler service.

When it's time to dine, cruisers can choose from eight venues. These include options not available on all Oceania ships, like Jacques (French fare) and Red Ginger (Asian-focused dishes). Bar and lounge venues are also varied, with specialty spots mixing martinis, offering wine tastings and serving poolside cocktails.

Other pursuits available on the ship include treatments at the spa, painting at the Artist Loft and cooking classes at The Culinary Center. With amenities and organized events geared toward older cruisers, Riviera isn't a great choice for those traveling with children.

Riviera will split its time between the Middle East,  the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Asia and more.

Originally launched in 2008 and updated in late 2015, Eurodam   carries up to 2,104 passengers and 876 crew members.

The ship’s 11 decks include multiple cabin categories: Interior staterooms, Ocean View and Verandah staterooms, Signature Suites and Neptune & Pinnacle Suites. All cabins come equipped with plush Euro-Top mattresses and flat-screen TVs. Suites received updates to the furniture, carpeting and bathrooms, as well as a USB outlet on the bed's headboard and a Bose Bluetooth speaker. 

Recent cruisers of Eurodam were pleased with the versatile selection of nine dining venues. Most notably, the ship offers Tamarind, which serves exotic fare from Southeast Asia, China and Japan. 

Daytime activities range from the Greenhouse Spa & Salon to the BBC Earth in Concert experience. More active pursuits include two swimming pools, pickleball courts and more. In the evenings, passengers can sip cocktails at one of the bars or lounges or take in a show at B.B. King's Blues Club.

Eurodam departs from Fort Lauderdale , San Diego , Seattle  and  Vancouver  for sailings in the Caribbean, Alaska, the Pacific Coast and the Panama Canal.

Norwegian Jewel

The 2,376-passenger Norwegian Jewel (the namesake of the line's Jewel-class ships) has been cruising since 2005 and and underwent an extensive refurbishment in 2022. It reemerged boasting more than 25 refreshed venues. With its low 1-to-2 crew-to-guest ratio, the ship makes tailored experiences a priority.

With 14 eateries and 12 bars and lounges, every guest has plenty of elbow room. Passenger favorites include the specialty Brazilian steakhouse.

While Jewel appeals to a variety of traveler types, it's especially well-suited for families thanks to its age-appropriate kids clubs, a video arcade and waterslides. But there are plenty of diversions to keep grown-ups occupied as well, such as a full-service spa, a casino, sports facilities and an art nouveau-style theater.

As for lodging, cruisers can choose between Inside, Oceanview, Balcony, Club Balcony Suite and Suite category cabins. Those looking for even more space and luxury should opt for a cabin in The Haven, which offers multiple bedrooms and access to a private sun deck.

Grand Princess

First launched in 1998, the 2,600-passenger Grand Princess underwent a renovation in March 2019 that added new top-deck dining venues like Alfredo's Pizzeria, Salty Dog Grill and Coffee & Cones. The Princess Theater was also refreshed to provide a more immersive audio experience. Other onboard amenities include the adults-only Sanctuary, duty-free boutiques and educational programs through the Discovery of SEA program.

The ship houses numerous dining venues, including one main dining room, two specialty venues and a variety of casual eateries serving classics like burgers and pizza. Come nightfall, passengers can enjoy cocktails at their pick of lounges.

The recently refurbished accommodations are outfitted with amenities like flat-screen TVs and minifridges. Though only 76% of exterior cabins offer private balconies – a lower percentage than other ships in the fleet – guests describe cabins as comfortable and spacious. Plus, thanks to a nearly 2-to-1 guest-to-crew ratio (the ship features 1,150 crew members), past cruisers describe the onboard service as attentive and friendly. What's more, each guest aboard Grand Princess receives an OceanMedallion wearable device to unlock his or her stateroom, make onboard payments, track down friends and family and more.

Grand Princess sails to destinations worldwide, including Alaska, Hawaii , Australia, the California coast and the South Pacific.

Royal Princess

Like its sister ship,  Regal Princess , unique features like a top-deck pool and the SeaWalk (a glass-paneled walkway that stretches 28 feet beyond the ship's edge) make Royal Princess stand out among competitors.

The 3,560-passenger ship debuted in 2013 and was last refurbished in December 2018. Onboard activities include an indoor driving range, duty-free boutiques and educational programming through Discovery at SEA. Younger passengers can participate in age-appropriate youth clubs while adults play games in the casino or sip cocktails at one of multiple lounges.

When it's time to dine, passengers can choose from the main dining rooms, six specialty restaurants or several casual eateries. In terms of lodging, all cabins are appointed with minifridges and flat-screen TVs. While Interior cabins measure between 158 and 162 square feet, larger Balcony staterooms offer 214 to 222 square feet. Each guest aboard Royal Princess receives an OceanMedallion wearable device to unlock his or her stateroom, make onboard payments, track down friends and family and more.

Royal Princess offers itineraries throughout Alaska, Canada, California, Mexico, Asia, Australia, Hawaii and the South Pacific.

Anthem of the Seas

Debuted in 2015, Anthem of the Seas offers impressive amenities like the first at-sea skydiving simulator and a 360-degree observation pod that allows cruisers to dangle 300 feet above the sea.

Staterooms also boasts innovative features, including family-friendly adjoining cabins and Interior rooms outfitted with "virtual balconies" that show real-time views of the ship's location. All cabin categories (Interior, Ocean View, Balcony and Suite) include flat-screen TVs and minifridges.

Guests won't need to spend much time in their cabins, though. The ship offers a multitude of activities, ranging from daytime spa treatments, rock climbing and bumper cars to nightly shows and casino games. When it's time to eat, travelers can choose from 14 dining venues, including six signature restaurants for an extra fee. Guests praised the new technology on board, including smart wristbands that eliminate the need for room keys.

With a capacity of 4,905 guests and 1,500 crew members, Anthem of the Seas passengers can expect crowded common areas during peak times. 

Anthem of the Seas departs from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Cape Liberty, New Jersey,  Singapore and Southampton, England, for sailings in the Bahamas , the Caribbean, Asia and Europe. The ship also offers transatlantic voyages.

The moment you step on board the beautiful Carol M. you will be transported to another, earlier time. From a short three hour scenic cruise, which includes hors d’oeuvres, but not meals, to our full gourmet dinner cruise, we provide a truly enchanting and personal experience.

Our cruises originate on Lake Union, home of the famous “Sleepless in Seattle” and house boat community–then navigate the Montlake Cut out into Lake Washington, unless other arrangements have been made. (We do offer dock-side pickup to homes on Lake Washington.)

As you cruise along the lakeshore you will see some of Seattle’s most beautiful waterfront homes and properties, while enjoying complimentary hors d’oeuvres of two nice cheeses, crackers and fresh grapes on all of our cruises.

We are however best known for our dinner cruise of four or more hours, where we anchor in one of the bays on Lake Washington. There, in the stillness of the water, we serve a delicious, relaxed multi-course dinner before resuming the cruise for home.

Or if you prefer, book us to cruise west through the Ballard Locks and experience the salt air and stunning views of Puget Sound (for this cruise plan on 7 to 8 hours).

Whichever adventure you choose, you will find it to be far more than a boat ride–we are not your typical charter boat, we create memories!

Our minimum cruise is a three hour charter, includes hors d’oeuvres, but no additional meals at $770.00. Additional hours are $225.00 per hour.

Our dinner cruises require a minimum of four hours, at $995.00.

The two main dining rooms, Seven Seas and Four Seasons, got a complete makeover too!

Norwegian Spirit

Although Norwegian Spirit was built in 1998, it underwent a major refurbishment in 2020 and features specialty dining at Cagney's Steakhouse, Onda by Scarpetta, and Le Bistro. Seattle Activities Before Your Cruise

If you aren't from Seattle, you may be interested in spending extra time in the city before or after your cruise. Get to know Seattle with a Best of Seattle tour that takes you to the top of the iconic Space Needle, wandering through Pike Place Market, and on a drive through some of the most historic neighborhoods and landmarks such as the Seattle Seahawks' home stadium. Ports on a Five-Day Alaska Cruise From Seattle

On a five-day cruise from Seattle, the two main ports you will visit are Ketchikan, Alaska, and Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

What to See and Do in Ketchikan

Ketchikan has some of the lushest wilderness you will find anywhere in the world. Some highlights in Ketchikan include the following:

Afterward, enjoy learning about totem poles and visit one of the world's largest gatherings of totem poles. End your day by watching how talented carvers make these poles and purchase souvenirs at the Village Store.
• Historic Cannery, Seafood Sampling, and Wildlife Cruise : Alaska is the salmon capital of the world, and here you can enjoy a wildlife viewing cruise, followed by sampling some local Alaskan seafood at a local cannery, including a nice serving of salmon chowder. On your cruise, you'll board a locally built vessel and learn about wildlife and points of interest from a naturalist. Other seafood you might sample include on-site smoked salmon, oysters, halibut, salmon roe, and crab served several ways.
• Rainforest Island Adventure : Your rainforest exploration starts on a motorized inflatable Seahawk, which travels along the coast of Clover Passage. Along the way, you might spot whales, harbor seals, migrating seabirds, bald eagles, and sea lions. Once you reach the Tongass National Forest, you might spot other wildlife, including bears, more bald eagles, wolves, and trumpeter swans.

Victoria, British Columbia

You can see plenty in Victoria as well. One of the main sights is the world-famous Butchart Gardens , spread out over 55 acres. Take a two-hour self-guided tour through some of the themed gardens, such as the Japanese Garden, the Rose Garden, the Italian Garden, and the famous Sunken Garden.

Wildlife viewing isn't limited to Alaska ports either. You can book an Ocean Wildlife and Orca Exploration tour that allows you to potentially see different whales, including humpback, Minke, gray whales, and transient orcas that are passing through Victoria. Day 1 Depart Vancouver

Depart Vancouver for Alaska aboard the MS Zaandam.  As you depart Vancouver you pass by Stanley Park and sail underneath the Lion’s Gate Bridge.  Your ship gracefully turns to the north and you begin your Inside Passage cruise. (D)

Day 2 Cruising the Inside Passage

Spend a full day of cruising the protected waters of the Inside Passage, past countless islands, evergreen forests and a continual procession of birds and sea animals. Take time out from the scenery to enjoy some shipboard fun and the lectures on Alaska.  (B, L, D)

Day 3 Call at Juneau

This morning enjoy more vistas along the Inside Passage.  This afternoon you cruise the Gastineau Channel into Juneau, Alaska’s capital city. One of the most popular optional shore excursions is to Mendenhall Glacier or you might consider sportfishing, flightseeing, tram ride up Mt Roberts or whale watching. (B, L, D)

Day 4 Arrive Skagway and fly to Glacier Bay

You arrive in Skagway today.  Known as the gateway to the Gold Rush, Skagway is part of the Klondike Gold Rush Historic Park. You are greeted upon arrival and arrangements are made for your flight to Glacier Bay. (B)

Later today you will fly the Lynn Canal and view this part of the Inside Passage by air.  You arrive in Gustavus where you are met and transferred to the Glacier Bay Lodge.

Day 5  Full Day cruise of Glacier Bay and fly to Seattle

The Glacier Bay cruise has a Park Service naturalist onboard who serves as narrator/interpreter. As you cruise into Glacier Bay observe the many different species of birds. It’s just a couple of minutes on foot from the International District and offers beautiful skyline views of the city to the north.

If you want a beautiful cultural experience, I recommend staying at the Panama Hotel , a historic hotel that was once a popular Japanese bathhouse and now features beautifully restored guest rooms and a Japanese tea room in addition to a Japanese American Museum.

5. Alki Beach

If you're coming from the airport, the light rail is a convenient option that will take you directly to SoDo in around 30 minutes.

‌Things to Do in SoDo‌

SoDo, short for South of Downtown, is an industrial neighborhood that's home to some of Seattle's biggest sports venues, including T-Mobile Park and Lumen Field. Sports fans can catch a game or tour the facilities, while beer enthusiasts can explore some of the city's best breweries and taprooms.

In addition to sports and beer, SoDo also has a thriving arts scene. Visitors can check out the galleries and studios at the Inscape Arts Building or visit the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park , which offers exhibits and artifacts related to the 1897 Gold Rush.

The biggest advantage to staying in SoDo is being able to walk to Lumen Field or T-Mobile Park for a game (and avoid the rush for the train after). There also are not any hotels or apartment rentals south of the stadiums in SoDo, so it makes sense to stay up north, especially if you only have three nights in Seattle and want to be close to everything.

If you like renting apartments, this Airbnb sits just north of Lumen Field, making it within walking distance of both stadiums and the nearby light rail station. The apartment features a full kitchen, washer/dryer, and a fire pit on the roof of the high-rise.

If you prefer staying in a hotel, the Silver Cloud Hotel Seattle Stadium is a great pick. Nestled between the two stadiums, this property offers views of Elliott Bay and offers a rooftop pool and hot tub. The hotel also has an on-site bar-and-grill restaurant.

While Downtown, Capitol Hill, and the International District are all worth a visit, there are many parts of Seattle that tourists don’t visit because they don’t realize what’s there. These are some of our favorite hidden gem locations in the city.

7. Montlake

• Close to the University of Washington campus

Montlake is located about 10 minutes east of downtown Seattle and can be accessed by car, bus, or rideshare services. If you are taking the light rail, you can get off at either the Capitol Hill station or the University of Washington station and walk from there.

Montlake is a charming residential neighborhood that offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city and its tourist attractions. If you are traveling with a dog that needs to be walked every day, this neighborhood is perfect as it is home to several beautiful parks, including the picturesque Washington Park Arboretum and Interlaken Park .

Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the arboretum's lush gardens and forests, as well as take a scenic kayak or canoe ride on Lake Washington, which borders the neighborhood.

For sports fans, Montlake is just south of the University of Washington’s Husky Stadium, which hosts college football games and other sporting events throughout the year. Fans of architecture will appreciate the unique design of the stadium, which features a distinctive, modernist roof structure.

While the neighborhood itself is extremely pet-friendly, most accommodations within Montlake are not, unfortunately. If you are traveling with a pet, I suggest this Airbnb . Just a few blocks west of Montlake, it gives you easy access to the neighborhood and lets you stay with your furry guests.

8. Magnolia

• Features Seattle’s largest green space
• Close to Ballard, Fremont, and Downtown

Magnolia is accessible by car or public transportation from downtown Seattle. Several bus routes serve the neighborhood. I do recommend renting a car if you are staying in this area and want to explore other parts of Seattle with ease.

Magnolia is a charming residential neighborhood located just northwest of downtown Seattle. The area is known for its stunning parks and gardens, including Discovery Park , which offers miles of hiking trails, beaches, and breathtaking views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.

For an unforgettable view of Seattle's skyline, make sure to visit the Magnolia Viewpoint. This lookout offers panoramic views of the city, including the Space Needle and the downtown skyline. You may even be able to catch a glimpse of Mount Rainier on a clear day.

‌ Where to Stay in Magnolia ‌ Like many neighborhoods in Seattle, Magnolia is quiet and residential. While this has its perks, it also means that there are no hotels in this neighborhood, and just a handful of apartment rentals.

While yes, this is in Ballard, it is the closest hotel to the Magnolia neighborhood and can be accessed by crossing the 15th Avenue bridge. It also takes about 45 minutes to walk from Hotel Ballard to the edge of Discovery Park if you travel across the Ballard Locks.

Leschi is a picturesque neighborhood located on the eastern shore of Lake Washington in Seattle. If you would prefer to stay in a hotel, the Art Inn Seattle is your best option. This property is located about halfway between Leschi and Downtown, making it an ideal spot for people wanting a vacation that include city life and peace and quiet. It’s also close to Capitol Hill if you want to explore that vibrant neighborhood as well.

It takes about 30 minutes by car to reach Phinney Ridge from the Seattle airport, or about 15 minutes from downtown Seattle. You can also take the light rail from the airport to the Pioneer Square station before transferring to a bus for the remainder of the journey.

‌Things to Do in Phinney Ridge‌

Phinney Ridge is a charming neighborhood in Seattle that is known for the beautiful Woodland Park. The park features playgrounds, walking trails, and picnic areas with stunning views of Green Lake all around.

In the same area is the Woodland Park Zoo , which houses more than 1,000 animals and is committed to conservation efforts and educating visitors about wildlife and their habitats. Visitors can explore the zoo's exhibits, including the Tropical Rain Forest, Northern Trail, and African Savanna, which showcase a variety of animals from around the world. There are also numerous events and activities hosted at the zoo throughout the year, including summer concerts and ZooTunes, a popular outdoor music series.

Phinney Ridge is about halfway between Ballard and the University of Washington. It is also easy to take a bus to get downtown.

‌Where to Stay in Phinney Ridge‌

If you’re staying in Phinney Ridge, it’s probably because you want easy access to the Woodland Park Zoo. I recommend this apartment located on the north side of Woodland Park. It’s easy to walk to the zoo, the rest of the park, and Green Lake. It also offers free parking if you decide to rent a car.

The closest hotel to Woodland Park is Staybridge Suites Seattle in Fremont. Although it’s in a different neighborhood, it only takes about 20 minutes to walk or five minutes to drive to Woodland Park. A full kitchen is provided in each room, and the hotel features a rooftop terrace with a fireplace, a gas grill area, and a pet play area.

The starting bats pounced early and the pitching limited traffic - always a good recipe for success.

With plenty of firepower from the bats and effective, efficient pitching from the arms, today’s 12-3 romp over the Rockies would have been a treat to have on the broadcast. Alas, we were stuck with radio only, but there was still plenty of fun to be had.

The Mariners were turned away in the first inning despite having Julio Rodríguez and Jorge Polanco on the corners with one out, as Mitches Garver and Haniger grounded out and struck out, respectively. The Rockies took the lead in the second off of Tommy Milone Casey Lawrence, with a base hit from Coco Montes bringing home Elehuris Montero, who led off the frame with a double. Colorado threatened a bit more with a base hit from Aaron Schunk sending Montes to second, but the veteran righty bounced back with a strikeout of Willie MacIver. If you don’t recognize any of these names, with the possible exception of Montero thanks to his inclusion in the Nolan Arenado trade, I don’t blame you. With a split squad day on the table for the Rockies, they did not send their best to Peoria.

That lead I was talking about just a few inches above? It didn’t last long for the Rockies.

*deep breath*

Dominic Canzone opened the bottom of the second with a walk off of lefty Austin Gomber, promptly stealing second and moving to third on a Ty France base hit. Luis Urías followed with a ground-rule double to left to tie, Seby Zavala brought home France with a sac fly to snatch back the lead, Dylan Moore notched his second hit of the day with a base hit to center to score Urías, Juliooooooo snuck a ground ball past the shortstop - stealing second to put both runners in scoring position - and after a pitching change to give Gomber a breather, Polanco struck again with another knock, scoring both DMo and Julio.

Phew! That was a mouthful for five runs crossing the plate. The M’s weren’t quite done with scoring yet, though. After Garver made the second out of the inning with a flyout. Haniger stepped in the box, and continued his scorching spring, bashing his fourth homer of the Cactus League slate and bringing the M’s to a lucky seven runs scored, ensuring a true bat-around in the process.

Canzone finally ended the frame with a pop-up, but from then on, the M’s were in complete cruise control. Colorado did get a run across in the third thanks to a Nolan Jones double, but Moore grabbed it right back - and tossed a couple extra in - with this towering fly shot just a half-inning later.

With all the starters getting their requisite three plate appearances - with the exception of Zavala, who got four today - after four innings, the subs quickly filled in, and they wanted in on the fun, too. Leading off the fifth, Zavala reached on a base hit to left, Ryan Bliss doubled him to third, 2023 draftee - and likely Everett AquaSock to start the year - Bill Knight scored Zavala with a sac fly, and Samad Taylor brought home the speedy Bliss with a single to right field to make it an even dozen. When both the starters and the fill-ins produce? That makes for some damn fine spring training baseball. Oh, and the septet of Lawrence, Cody Bolton, Andrés Muñoz, Gabe Speier, Austin Voth, Carlos Vargas, and Luis Curvelo? No walks from any of them, and they combined for eleven strikeouts. Not too shabby.

There’s no Mariners game tomorrow - though if you want to get up at the crack of dawn to see the Dodgers and Padres kick off the regular season in Korea, I won’t stop you - but Thursday will see them face off against the Reds in Peoria. Plus, Thursday will mark exactly one week before the rest of the league’s Opening Day. We’re getting ever closer, folks.

Former Seattle Mariners' Ace on Wrong Side of Spring Training History in Loss to New York Yankees

Former Seattle Mariners ' ace Marco Gonzales was on the wrong side of some spring training history on Wednesday night, surrendering three home runs to New York Yankees ' slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

Stanton's three home-run performance was just the second three-home run game in spring training since 2006 (both of which came in the last week).

And there's also this unfortunate note for Gonzales, per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Giancarlo Stanton’s EIGHT RBI are the most by a player in a spring training game since at least 2006

Gonzales, who is now pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates , went 3.2 innings, surrendering nine earned runs on 10 hits. He gave up four home runs in all and owns a 9.88 spring ERA.

It's been a tumultuous offseason for Gonzales, who was traded twice this offseason. Gonzales was traded from Seattle to the Atlanta Braves in the deal that sent Jarred Kelenic to Atlanta and then was sent to Pittsburgh where he'll slot in with Mitch Keller and Martin Perez in the starting rotation.

Gonzales was acquired by the Mariners in 2017 and was meant to be a building block for the next wave of M's contending teams. He was just that, winning 13 games in 2018 when the M's last went for it with the Nelson Cruz, Kyle Seager, Felix Hernandez and Robinson Cano group.

Then, when the team started its rebuild, Gonzales was there, serving as the ace in both 2019 and 2020. He won 16 games for the M's in 2019, despite the team only winning 68 games. He then went 7-2 during the COVID 2020 shortened season before winning 10 more games in 2021 as the M's pushed back towards contention.

Unfortunately, he regressed in each of the last two seasons, going 10-15 with a 4.13 ERA in 2022 and pitching to a 5.22 ERA in 10 games in 2023 before shutting it down with an elbow injury. He insists he's healthy now and trained at Driveline this offseason in an effort to re-find his form.
