Comment Blocker

Sublime comment blocking brought to you by shutup.css.

You never have to see comments again if you don't want to.

Easy to turn off

Want a peek at the chaos? You're just a button away.

No strings attached. Just download, install, and browse.

Comments are awful. Shut Up hides them by default, sparing your sanity and preventing you from getting sucked into a world of hurt.

For the sites where discussions can be more constructive – like GitHub , Dropbox , or Stack Overflow – you can show comments by default.

How's it work?

Shut Up is an app you can install on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, and a browser extension you can install in Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Opera. At its core is a stylesheet by Steven Frank called shutup.css . The extension injects the stylesheet's rules into almost all of the pages you visit.

When you want to see comments, it couldn't be easier:

Shut Up's toolbar icon on Safari for Mac

Rarely, you might find that Shut Up inadvertently blocks legitimate page content, or doesn't block comments properly. Please contact me if you think something's not working right. If you're good at web development, you can submit a pull request for shutup.css on GitHub .

What about privacy?

Shut Up won't track nor spy on your browsing activity. The extension only periodically contacts this server for the newest copy of shutup.css, at which point some temporary diagnostic logs are recorded. On Firefox, this update check is omitted. Learn more about my privacy policies .

Anything else?

On iPhone or iPad, Shut Up requires iOS/iPadOS 12 or newer. You also need a 64-bit processor. Any of the following devices will work:

  • iPhone 5s or newer
  • iPad Air or newer
  • iPad mini 2 or newer
  • iPod touch (6th generation)

One more thing: You have to activate Shut Up in Settings before it may start blocking comments. To do that:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap Safari .
  • Tap Content Blockers .
  • Turn on Shut Up .

If you can't turn on Shut Up from here, you may need to first disable your device's web browsing restrictions . Once you've done that and turned on Shut Up, you can turn the restrictions back on.

Ratings and Reviews

Exactly what i needed..

Downloaded, turned on in settings, checked a few sites on Safari, and I cannot see ANY comments. Goodbye toxic internet people, hello peace and safe browsing. I don’t know why things like this are not more popular, but I guess more people feed into the poisonous online community than just going online for education and keeping up to date on things. We really should be able to turn comments on and off on all platforms and apps, I’m hoping one day we can.

I would happily donate to this app.

It saves me time online I would have wasted reading comments. By default, this should be included on all phones and internet devices as it really helps me spend less time getting distracted online.

Great concept, great app, one small thing

Super useful in that it prevents me from the odd compulsion to waste time reading the opinions of strangers. However, I’ll sometimes want to deliberately check a site with a discussion thread on my phone and, after allowing it, I’ll delete the site from my “exception” list but comments still show up. Usually I have to uninstall and reinstall the app. Not quite sure why this happens.

Developer Response ,

There are a couple ways around this: 1. If you tap the "aA" icon in the toolbar next to the URL in Safari, there's an option that says "Turn off Content Blockers." That will reload the page without any blockers applied. The next page you load will turn them back on again. 2. When removing the site from the exception list, you should be able to reload the URL in Safari and the comments should be blocked again. The changes can only take effect when you reload the page. Thanks for the review, hope this helps.

All popular web browsers across all platforms come with a built-in pop-up blocker. They are typically smart enough to block unwanted pop-ups that would otherwise ruin your browsing experience. But in some cases, you might need to temporarily disable your browser’s pop-up blocker. If that’s the case, you have come to the right place.

How to Disable Pop-Up Blocker in Google Chrome, Safari, and Edge

Follow this guide to learn how to disable the pop-up blocker in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Safari, and Firefox.

Note that you should also temporarily disable your ad blocker as it might affect the site’s functionality.

How to Disable Pop-Up Blockers in Google Chrome on Windows or Mac

If you’re using Chrome as your default browser, pop-ups are blocked by default. That means every time a pop-up tries to appear while browsing, Chrome prevents the pop-up window from opening. Usually, you’ll see a “Pop-up blocked” message appear in the address bar when this happens.

Thankfully, turning off pop-blocking in Google Chrome is easy.

  • Open Google Chrome and click the ellipses (three dots appearing in the upper right corner).

Chrome browser settings option

If you want to allow pop-ups for specific sites, follow the above steps, then scroll to Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects .

Adding specific sites for pop-ups and redirects

Remember that if you uninstall and reinstall Chrome , you will have to reconfirm your pop-up blocker settings.

How to Disable Pop-up Blockers in Google Chrome on Android

You can disable the pop-up blocker in Chrome for Android as well. We do not recommend doing this as your browsing experience can take a negative hit. Still, if you want to, follow the below steps. Note that, unlike the desktop version, you cannot allow pop-ups for specific sites.

  • Open Google Chrome on your Android phone.

Opening the Chrome Settings option

Remember that disabling Chrome’s pop-up blocker will not stop pop-up ads from appearing on your  Android phone .

How to Disable Pop-up Blockers in Safari on Mac

Unfortunately, like Chrome, Safari also blocks pop-ups by default, too. But you can adjust this setting to your preference.

  • Open Safari on your Mac.

Open Safari Preferences on Mac

  • Locate the When Visiting Other Sites dropdown and the drop-down menu to reveal more options.

Allow option for pop-ups on Safari

Like we did with Chrome, you can also choose which websites you want to allow pop-ups. Only make sure that you’re on the relevant website. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Open the website on your Safari browser for which you want to allow pop-ups.
  • Go to Preferences .
  • Select Websites , and click Pop-up windows (The website you’re currently on will automatically appear on a list of currently opened web pages).

How to Disable Pop-up Blocker in Safari on iPhone

Disabling Safari’s pop-up blocker on iPhone might be necessary for certain websites. While the pop-up blocker provides security from intrusive ads, you must understand how to manage these settings for a smooth browsing experience.

  • Open the Settings menu on your iPhone.

iPhone Safari Settings

Unlike Safari on Mac, you cannot allow pop-ups for individual sites in Safari on iPhone.

How to Disable Pop-up Blockers in Firefox on Desktop

By default, Mozilla Firefox blocks any pop-up on websites you open. But you can still disable them on a Mac, Windows, Linux, or Chromebook. Note that the steps are the same irrespective of which desktop version of the browser you use.

  • Open Firefox on your desktop.

Opening the settings option on Firefox

  • Click Privacy & Security on the left sidebar.

Unchecking pop up permissions in Firefox

Like with the desktop version of Safari and Google Chrome, you may allow pop-ups from specific sites in Safari.

  • Check the Block pop-up windows option, then click on Exceptions .

Specify allowed websites

How to Disable Pop-up Blocker in Firefox on iPhone

If you’re having trouble accessing certain content or website features while using Firefox on your iPhone, you might need to turn off the pop-up blocker temporarily. Note that unlike it is with the desktop version, you can not allow pop-ups for a specific site.

  • Open Firefox on your iPhone.

Firefox ellipses on iPhone

And you’re all set to browse your favorite websites that work best with pop-ups.

How to Disable Pop-up Blocker in Microsoft Edge

Disabling the pop-up blocker in Microsoft Edge isn’t as difficult as you think. You follow the steps we outline below.

  • Open Edge on your computer
  • Click the three do ts at the top of your browser.

Why Should You Turn Off Pop-Up Blockers?

We know that pop-ups can be annoying, but they still have their uses. Here are some reasons why you should turn off your pop-up blockers.

  • Some websites need pop-ups to enable features like login windows, payment gateways, or other interactive elements. Disabling the pop-up blocker on your device allows you to access and use these features easily.
  • Some web apps rely on pop-ups to send alerts and notifications. Turning off your web browser’s pop-up blocker can help these apps to function correctly.

Pop-Ups Can Be Annoying, But They’re Still Useful!

Pop-ups can be annoying, especially when they show up every time you’re surfing your favorite sites. But they are essential tools that help websites like those managed by banks operate properly. Enabling pop-ups on your browsers can be challenging if you’ve never done it before. However, it isn’t difficult once you know how.

Next, you might want to learn how to go incognito in Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari for a more private browsing experience.

What is a pop-up notification?

A pop-up notification is a message that often appears on a user’s browser or desktop. Think of a pop-up as a message designed to attract your attention and engage you in some ways while browsing. Pop-up notifications are visually appealing and are often used to engage internet users, create brand awareness, and improve the browsing experience.

What is the difference between pop-up and notification?

Pop-up notifications are messages that often appear on your screen when browsing. On the other hand, notifications are alerts sent to your device. Notifications keep you informed of important updates, messages, or promotions.

How to disable pop-up blocker in safari on iphone and ipad.

Some websites need pop-ups in order to work properly.

Quick Links

Why enable pop-ups in safari on iphone and ipad, turn off pop-up blocker in safari on iphone and ipad.

By default, Safari on your iPhone and iPad blocks any website pop-ups. If a site requires these tiny windows to function, you can disable Safari's built-in pop-up blocker. We'll show you how to do that.

Related: How to Use Tab Groups in Safari on iPhone and iPad

One major reason to enable pop-ups in Safari is to allow websites, such as your bank's website, to display pop-up windows they require to operate. On some sites, without these tiny windows, you can't do what you need to.

Later, when you've finished your task, you can re-enable the built-in pop-up blocker, as we'll explain below.

To disable Safari's pop-up blocker on your iPhone or iPad, first, open the Settings app on your phone. Settings is where many of Safari's options are located.

On the Settings page, scroll down and tap "Safari."

On the "Safari" page that opens, you have various options to configure for your web browser . Here, at the bottom of the "General" section, toggle off the "Block Pop-Ups" option.

To re-enable the built-in pop-up blocker, simply turn on the "Block Pop-Ups" option again.

Safari's pop-up blocker is now disabled, and your sites can now launch those small windows while you are browsing in this browser. Enjoy!

Want to disable the pop-up blocker in Chrome on your desktop? If so, it's equally easy to do that.

Terrifying moment elephant charges at tourists as safari truck driver suddenly stops

The elephant attacked a safari truck at Kafue National Park in Zambia on Saturday

An elephant charged at an African safari truck with tourists in Zambia and flipped the vehicle, killing an elderly American woman.

The harrowing moment was captured on 45-second video by an individual on the truck at Kafue National Park. A lone five-ton bull elephant can be seen in the distance running towards the vehicle.

‘Oh my goodness,’ a woman is heard saying.

‘Uh oh, coming fast,’ a man remarks.

Sorry, this video isn't available any more.

As the elephant continues to rush through the trees and bush, the driver abruptly stops the vehicle.

‘Hey! Hey! Hey!’ someone can be heard yelling.

The elephant uses its trunk and in one swing flips the vehicle. The recording shows a chaotic scene in the tumble.

An 80-year-old woman on the Wilderness Zambia tour died from the attack, Keith Vincent, CEO of the organizing group, told the Daily Mail . She was not immediately identified.

The video showed the bull elephant pursuing the safari vehicle

Five other guests were on the tour, and one was seriously injured and four sustained minor injuries. The seriously injured victim was airlifted to a private medical facility in South Africa . All the guests were reportedly staying at the Lufupa River Camp.

The game drive was ‘unexpectedly chaired by the bull elephant’ around 9.30am on Saturday, stated Vincent.

‘Our guides are all extremely well-trained and experienced, but sadly in this instance the terrain and vegetation was such that the guide’s route became blocked and he could not move the vehicle out of harm’s way quickly enough.’

Vincent added that management at the national park, which is the second largest safari location in the world, offered immediate assistance.

An American tourist died as the safari vehicle was flipped

’This is an extremely tragic event and we extend our deepest condolences to the family of the guest who died,’ Vincent stated.

‘We are also, naturally supporting those guests and the guide involved in this distressing incident. The deceased will be repatriated to the USA.’

The elderly woman died more than eight years after an American woman in her 30s was mauled to death while recording a lion at the Gauteng safari park in South Africa.

News | Twin Cities woman, 79, killed in Africa when elephant charges safari vehicle

A bull elephant charged a truck that a 79-year-old Twin Cities woman was riding in with other tourists on a game drive in a Zambian national park, flipping over the vehicle and killing her, a safari company said.

Family and friends identified the victim to Twin Cities media as Minnetonka resident Gail Mattson, who also had a home in Arizona.

The attack injured five others on March 30 in the vast Kafue National Park, which covers 8,600 square miles and is one of Africa’s largest animal reserves.

According to the safari company Wilderness, the “aggressive” bull elephant unexpectedly charged at the truck, which was carrying six guests and a guide on a morning excursion through wild areas.

It wasn’t clear what upset the bull. But in a video widely circulated online, the pachyderm is seen menacingly charging through the bushy terrain toward the tourists’ vehicle. A man is heard shouting “hey hey hey,” in apparent but futile efforts to scare it away. It reaches the truck and flips it over using its trunk.

Another female tourist was seriously injured and flown by helicopter to South Africa for treatment while the rest were treated for minor injuries, the company said.

“This is a devastating incident for everyone involved and we are doing our best to support the family and all affected,” Tarryn Gibson, the safari company’s head of communications told the Associated Press on Thursday. Gibson did not identify the tourist who was killed, citing privacy concerns. The company also asked people to not share the video of the attack online.

While many wildlife parks in southern Africa teem with dangerous animals like elephants and lions, such incidents are rare, although they sometimes do occur with fatal consequences due to the unpredictability of wild animals.

Keith Vincent, chief executive officer of the safari company, said rough terrain minimized chances of an escape.

“Our guides are all extremely well trained and experienced, but sadly in this instance the terrain and vegetation was such that the guide’s route became blocked and he could not move the vehicle out of harm’s way quickly enough” he said.

Blue Jays beat Yankees 3-0 behind Ernie Clement's tiebreaking home run in New York's home opener

April 5, 2024 / 6:48 PM EDT / AP

NEW YORK  — Pinch-hitter Ernie Clement had a tiebreaking solo home run off Caleb Ferguson leading off the seventh inning, and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Yankees 3-0 Friday in New York's home opener.

"The Toronto faithful may not like this but I was the biggest Yankees fan growing up, so I'm glad we could kick their (butt)," said Clement, who grew up in Rochester, New York.

A 28-year-old who appeared in just 35 major league games over the previous two seasons, Clement drove the second pitch from Ferguson (0-1) into the left-field seats for his first career pinch homer. He was the first Toronto pinch hitter to give the Blue Jays the lead from the seventh inning on since Justin Smoak at Miami on Aug. 31, 2018.

"I just like to keep it simple," Clement said. "I'm up there looking for a fastball to drive and do damage on, and he laid one in there and I'm just glad I could come through for these guys."

Juan Soto went 0 for 4 with a pair of strikeouts in his pinstripes debut, slamming his bat and helmet after making the final out of the eighth.

He bowed to fans in right field in the top of the first and was greeted with a standing ovation when he came to the plate in the bottom half. Soto is in a 1-for-16 slide after a 9-for-17 start.

"Just frustration that comes out," Soto said. "You want to do so (many) things for this fan base and get your team going, and you have the chance to do it and couldn't get it done. It really gets you mad. And at the end of the day, that's my fault, shouldn't do that, but things happen."

Marcus Stroman matched Yusei Kikuchi with shutout ball before the bullpens took over. Kikuchi gave up four hits in 5 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts.

He played catch in Central Park on Thursday's day off.

"It's my fifth time doing it and I feel like a Central Parker now," Kikuchi said through a translator. "I found the biggest rock, because I can, and I did some visualization from the top of that top rock."

Nick Burdi threw a pair of run-scoring wild pitches in the ninth, prompting boos from the sellout crowd of 47,812.

Yimi García (1-0) got the final two outs of the sixth and Génesis Cabrera retired two batters in his first appearance since a three-game suspension for causing a benches-clearing incident at Tampa Bay last weekend. Trevor Richards struck out the side in the eighth and Chad Green got his first save since 2022 with the Yankees as Toronto pitched a six-hitter to start the last leg of an opening 10-game trip.

After beginning 6-1 on the road, New York dropped to 81-40-1 in home openers. The Yankees were shut out in a home opener for the first time since 1967.

Giancarlo Stanton was 0 for 4 and is hitting .120 (3 for 25) with 13 strikeouts.

An earthquake about three hours before game time wasn't felt by most of the Yankees on the field for batting practice.

Stroman allowed three hits in six innings. He has not allowed an earned run in 12 innings this season.

Cheered when he was introduced, Paul O'Neill drew boos when he bounced the ceremonial first pitch to Don Mattingly, now Toronto's bench coach, in pairing of former Yankees stars.

Toronto selected the contract of right-hander Paolo Espino from Triple-A Buffalo and designated right-hander Wes Parsons for assignment.

RHP Erik Swanson, on the IL since March 25 with right forearm inflammation, pitched batting practice Thursday. ... C Danny Jansen (broken right wrist on March 13) caught Swanson. ... RHP Alek Manoah (right shoulder inflammation) is to throw about 65 pitches in a game Sunday at Dunedin, Florida.

Yankees: RHP Jonathan Loáisiga was put on the 60-day IL because of a strained right flexor muscle. RHP Danny Santana was brought up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and was charged with the ninth-inning runs in his Yankees debut.

RHP Clarke Schmidt (0-0, 5.06) starts for the Yankees and RHP Kevin Gausman (0-0, 2.08) in a rare Saturday night game at Yankee Stadium.

Block pop-up ads and windows in Safari

Learn how to block pop-up windows and handle persistent ads on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Pop-ups can be ads, notices, offers, or alerts that open in your current browser window, in a new window, or in another tab. Some pop-ups are third-party ads that use phishing tactics such as warnings or prizes to trick you into believing they’re from Apple or another trusted company, so that you’ll share personal or financial information. Or they might claim to offer free downloads, software updates, or plug-ins to try to trick you into installing unwanted software.

Use these tips to help manage pop-ups and other unwanted interruptions.

Avoid interacting with pop-ups

Unless you’re confident that they are a legitimate ad, avoid interacting with pop-ups or webpages that seem to take over your screen.

If you see an annoying pop-up ad in Safari, you can go to the Search field and enter a new URL or search term to browse to a new site. If you don’t see the Search field on your iPhone or iPad, tap the top of the screen to make it appear.

Some pop-ups and ads have fake buttons that resemble a close button, so use caution if you try to close a pop-up or ad. If you're not sure, avoid interacting with it and close the Safari window or tab.

On your Mac, you can quit Safari, then press and hold the Shift key while opening Safari. This prevents Safari from automatically reopening any windows or tabs that were open.

Update your software

Always install the latest software updates for all of your Apple products. Many software releases have important security updates and may include improvements that help control pop-ups.

The safest way to download apps for your Mac is from the App Store. If you need software that isn’t available from the App Store, get it directly from the developer or another reliable source, rather than through an ad or link.

Check Safari settings

On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Safari.

Turn on Block Pop-ups.

Turn on Fraudulent Website Warning.

On your Mac, open Safari and choose Safari > Settings (or Preferences) from the menu bar.

In the Websites tab , you can configure options to allow or block some or all pop-ups .

In the Security tab , turn on the setting to warn when visiting a fraudulent website.

If adware or other unwanted software is installed on Mac

If you see pop-ups on your Mac that just won’t go away, you might have unintentionally downloaded and installed adware (advertising-supported software) or other unwanted software. Certain third-party download sites might include software that you don’t want along with the software that you do.

If you think that you might have malware or adware on your Mac:

Update to the latest version of macOS. If your Mac is already using the latest version, restart your Mac. macOS includes a built-in tool that removes known malware when restarting.

Check your Applications folder to see if you have any apps that you don't expect. You can uninstall those apps .

Check the Extensions tab in Safari settings to see if you installed any unnecessary extensions. You can turn extensions off .

If you continue to see advertising or other unwanted programs on your Mac, contact Apple.
