Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias is one of the world’s most successful stand-up comedians. He recently became the second highest grossing touring comedian and is one of the most watched comedians on YouTube with over 1.1 billion views and over 25 million fans on social media.
Iglesias has been included in The Hollywood Reporter’s “Top 40 Comedy Players” issue alongside comedy giants Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock and Lorne Michaels. Last year he also was honored with the cover of Variety’s comedy issue. The comedian has had the distinct honor of being one of the few to headline and sell-out Madison Square Garden in New York, Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and The Sydney Opera House in Australia.
On TV, Iglesias is the star and executive producer of the Netflix original comedy series, Mr. Iglesias , which is currently streaming three seasons. Iglesias plays a good-natured public high school teacher who works at his alma mater. He takes on teaching gifted but misfit kids to not only save them from being “counseled out” by a bully bureaucrat Assistant Principal, but also to help them unlock their full potential. In 2020, the show won best Primetime Comedy at The Imagen Awards, which recognizes positive portrayals of Latinx actors/actresses in the entertainment industry.
In addition to his comedy series, Iglesias penned a deal with Netflix to release two stand-up comedy specials. The first, titled One Show Fits All , was filmed in front of a sold-out audience at the Toyota Center in Houston and debuted in January 2019. The second, Stadium Fluffy premiered on October 18 and was taped in front of a crowd of 55,000 fans at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, where Iglesias made history as the first comedian to perform at and sellout the largest MLB stadium in the US.
Both of these specials are follow-ups to his highly successful 2016 special, I’m Sorry For What I Said When I Was Hungry , which was filmed at the Allstate Arena in Chicago to two sold-out shows with a total of 20,000 fans in attendance. Up next, Iglesias will co-star Tim Allen in the second season of Disney+’s The Santa Clauses . Iglesias will play Kris Kringle, the owner and operator of a Christmas-themed amusement park called Santaland. Sweet, happy, and perpetually-optimistic, Kris is a warm, generous soul who is determined to keep his struggling theme park afloat. However, his belief in Santa and love for all things Christmas may not be enough.

Things to do | gabriel ‘fluffy’ iglesias gets sentimental about agua caliente rancho mirage shows.
Standup comedians often play casinos as part of their tours, but Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias is taking it to another level. Iglesias’ upcoming performance at Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa Rancho Mirage will mark the 25th time he’s presented his show at the casino’s venue.
“Clearly, I hate change,” Iglesias joked in a phone interview ahead of his three performances at the Rancho Mirage property on Friday, May 3, Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5. “It’s going to be a great time. I bring a great show with really good production. There’s nothing like it but wrestling. My shows like WWE meets the Food Network.”
The 47-year-old Long Beach resident known for his trademark Hawaiian shirts grew up in Southern California, including Riverside, Santa Ana, Baldwin Park and Compton. He says he enjoys playing roulette and checking out the cocktail menus at casinos but for Iglesias, Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa Rancho Mirage holds a sentimental value.
“For my mom and I, that was our little hangout,” he said. “She would always go with me, and without getting too emotional about it, she passed away about 10 years ago. So it was one of those things where it was a nice place to go and remember her. That particular venue was one of those places where there were always good memories.”

In 2022, he made history as the first comedian to headline Dodger Stadium which was later released as a Netflix special dubbed “Stadium Fluffy.” He’s also taken on more prominent T.V. roles, joining George Lopez’s sitcom “Lopez vs. Lopez” for season 2 and becoming a regular on “The Santa Clauses.”
Before his three shows in Rancho Mirage, Iglesias talked with Southern California News Group about headlining the baseball stadium, sharing the stage with George Lopez, social media’s impact on comedy and more. The following conversation was edited for space and clarity.
Q: You’ve performed some massive sell-out shows, including famously at Dodgers Stadium. How did you feel after doing that performance?
Iglesias: I felt very hungover the next day, and I might’ve celebrated a bit onstage. The next day was very surreal. My head and stomach were hurting but I’ve never been happier. It was the greatest day of my life. The whole next day, I just saying, ‘Wow, I can’t believe that happened.’
Q: You shared the stage with comedian George Lopez for the Golden Globes. Was it the first time you two have done something together like that?
Iglesias: We haven’t worked together since about 2000. We were on a television show called ‘Que Locos’ on Galavisión and he was one of the hosts. I was an up-and-coming comedian and that was the first time we got to work together. We didn’t really run into each other again until the Golden Globes. I thought that was really cool that the two of us could do that together. I love the fact that people could see us working together on such a huge stage. While everybody was focused on Taylor Swift, I’m telling George, ‘Do you realize how big this is?’ The two of us on that stage together?’ We’re living in a time where we’re all watching other comedians tear each other down so I thought it was really awesome that we could do that.
Q: Did you see people react when Lopez jokingly mispronounced Pedro Pascal’s name? How did you feel about it?
Iglesias: Well, that particular night, the Golden Globes crowd was challenging. But I felt like our little bit went over well, considering the short time we were up there. But with the Pedro Pascal joke, you could see some people were like, ‘Wait a minute’ and it was something that George improvised and that wasn’t part of the script.
Q: There is a lot of talk right now about Latino representation in the media and in Hollywood. How do you feel about representation in the current environment?
Iglesias: If I relied strictly on Hollywood to make me, I’d still be at my day job.
All I heard when I was starting out was no. I couldn’t get into comedy clubs. Since I couldn’t get into comedy clubs, I performed wherever they would allow me to perform: at quinceañeras, barbecues and little holes in the wall until I was able to get myself into a position where somebody could help me get into a comedy club. By the time I got there, I was seasoned because I was used to performing in environments that were not conducive to comedy. So of course, I came out killing it out of the gate because I was used to people throwing bottles and calling me fat from the crowd and threatening me in a parking lot.
Sometimes we spend too much time feeling held down, feeling oppressed, feeling pushed back. I think we can grow out of that. It was not Hollywood who put me here. It was me making a decision to take matters into my own hands.
Q: Speaking of taking matters into your own hands: What do you think of comedians who are succeeding because of their social media presence?
Iglesias: Social media is a double-edged sword because it’s one of those things where, yes, you can promote yourself and get your content out there quickly, but there’s something to be said about taking your time to do it right.
There are a lot of people out there who have gotten sparks, and then they go out and do their shows but unfortunately, all they have is their two or three minutes that went viral. They don’t have enough to sustain a full show because they haven’t been around long enough to hone in their craft and really build something to have a strong show. For most comics, it takes anywhere from 10 to 15 years to have a solid act where you can tour, headline and work.
So to pick the fast pass with social media, sometimes it doesn’t work but sometimes it does and they’ll catch on. Most of the time, I think that you’re missing out on the struggle and you’re missing out on the growth.
Q: If you could perform for any person or people living or dead, who would they be and why?
Iglesias: This isn’t a specific person but I would like to perform in the ’70s for an audience just to see what that would feel like. I feel like in the ’70s it was the last time where you could say anything you wanted up there and people knew you were just a comedian. Nobody was going to be pissed off when they got it in the parking lot. There were also no cell phones to record you and no social media. There was none of that and it was just people out having a good time.
Q: What’s one of the funniest situations you’ve been in that at the time was super serious but you had to prevent yourself from laughing?
Iglesias: I got a massage yesterday for my messed-up sciatica. I get massages regularly and usually I’m on my back or on my front. That’s how you lay down on the table. I kept complaining about my side and she goes, ‘Well, why don’t you lay down the side,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh, OK, let’s do that and it was awesome. I go, ‘Man, this is great,’ and she goes, ‘Yeah, I do this all the time for pregnant ladies.’ So, I’m like, Wow, OK, I guess I’m six months.

Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias’ landmark standup event at Dodger Stadium is finally making its way to Netflix . “ Gabriel Iglesias : Stadium Fluffy Live from Los Angeles” will premiere globally on the streamer on October 18.
The special, which was filmed as part of the “Netflix is a Joke” festival on May 6, made history as Iglesias became the first comedian to ever perform at Dodger Stadium.
In the special, Iglesias talks about growing up in the Los Angeles region (he’s a native of Long Beach), a recent attempt at extortion towards him, and where he holds the record for receiving the highest fine on stage. Iglesias, John Bravakis and Joe Meloche exec produce “Gabriel Iglesias: Stadium Fluffy Live from Los Angeles,” which was directed by Manny Rodriguez.
Iglesias is also the first comedian to score back-to-back sellout concerts at the venue, which holds more than 45,000 people. Before his shows, the standup was praised by officials for his work to make audiences laugh and for the tone that he strikes in his comedy.
The star was presented formal certificates and proclamations from city, county and state officials and Iglesias’ milestone was celebrated with the publication of a special edition of Variety devoted to Iglesias’ path-breaking career.
Popular on Variety
“This is powerful,” Iglesias said of the outpouring from civic leaders at the time. “I’m just trying to tell jokes, make people laugh, make people smile.”
The timing of the historic Dodger Stadium performances coincided with the anniversary of his mother’s passing, a decade nearly to the day — something that he found “beautiful and poetic,” he said at the time. “Every anniversary we always relive it,” Iglesias said. “Now it’s going to be the worst week of my life and the best week of my life.”
Iglesias is currently on his “Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias: Back On Tour.”

Comic Elayne Boosler can’t talk her way out of handbag at Dodger Stadium. She was handcuffed

Comedian Elayne Boosler says she was arrested and held in handcuffs for two hours Sunday at Dodger Stadium after arguing with an employee who would not let her enter with a purse that violated the stadium’s clear bag policy .
In a 3½-minute video posted to Boosler’s YouTube channel later that day, the 71-year-old said she eventually was allowed to leave on her own, without being booked.
But the “ Party of One ” star made it clear she still had a beef with the Dodgers organization, in particular the employee who wouldn’t let her pass with a non-see-through bag that was decorated like a baseball to watch the Dodgers play the New York Mets .
“Shame on you, Dodger Stadium . Shame on you,” said Boosler, who in the video displayed bruises on her wrists that she said were from the handcuffs. “You know me. I’ve done so much free work for you for decades. And even if I wasn’t me, if I was just a customer who was coming to the game, to be treated like that, for anyone to be treated like that is so awful. You need to talk to your personnel and you really need to get rid of that guy with the tiny, little bit of power who is definitely not a people person.”
Boosler backtracked a bit Tuesday in an email to The Times.
“Of course I don’t want the guy to be fired,” she wrote. “We were both wrong but he was more wrong and it escalated when it shouldn’t have. I went to Dodger games last year with a regular purse and never had an issue so I was pretty surprised about the whole thing.”
Dodgers fan pulled switcheroo after catching a ‘hated Padre’ homer. Why did he keep the ball?
Dodgers fan Renan Zuniga was caught on national TV pulling a switcheroo with a home run ball hit by the Padres’ Manny Machado. The ball was important to Zuniga.
April 18, 2024
She’s still not entirely happy with the Dodgers organization.
“A Dodger executive called me yesterday and apologized and that would have been cool except for the small fib he fed me, which is kind of insulting to women,” she wrote. “He said there was nothing the Dodgers could do about the bag policy because it was MLB policy across the board. Well I looked that up today and MLB leaves bag policy up to individual teams. You can bring a regular purse to Red Sox Yankees Mets Cardinals Cubs etc etc games.”
The Dodgers declined to comment for this story. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told The Times he was unable to confirm that Boosler had been arrested.
In her video, Boosler states that her bag was “10 inches across.” According to the bag policy on the Dodgers’ website , the only non-clear bags allowed must be smaller than 5 inches by 8 inches by 2 inches in size. Based on the bag policies on the websites of the other five teams Boosler mentions, it does appear her bag would have been permitted at those teams’ stadiums.
Boosler also said in her email to The Times that the Dodgers representative who called her “also said the Dodgers send 200 to 300 women a game back to their cars to leave their purses. Why is that acceptable to anyone? Men go into the stadium with non-clear fanny packs, bursting pockets, whatever, and women are forced to carry Purses by Reynolds Wrap with feminine hygiene products sticking out and enough cash so pick pockets know exactly whom to hit up.”
She added: “Enough already. Treat women better.”
Where to eat and drink near Dodger Stadium before or after a game
Venture beyond your usual Dodgers pre-game options with oysters, sake, arcade games across Silver Lake, Echo Park, and Chinatown.

Boosler is known as a pioneer for women in the world of stand-up comedy, finding success in the 1970s and 1980s when the field was largely dominated by men. In 2018, she was included in CNN’s list of “ Groundbreaking women in American comedy .” She has appeared in The Times as a contributor, writing appreciation pieces for late comedians Judy Tenuta in 2022 and Richard Lewis last month, and an opinion piece on comic strips in 2003.
Aside from her critical comments about the Dodgers and their bag policy, Boosler did bring the jokes in her email to The Times two days after the incident. In response to one question, she wrote: “My wrists were pretty injured, but nothing that say a Rolex from the Dodgers wouldn’t make feel better. You know, just the cool temp of it …”
Asked if there was anything she wished she had done differently Sunday, Boosler responded: “Yes. I wish I had gone to a Giants game.”
After everything that happened, does she plan to attend Dodgers games in the future?
“Yes,” Boosler wrote. “When they play at Citi Field.”
In her YouTube video, Boosler said she was set to attend the Mets-Dodgers game that afternoon with her nephew and his 8-year-old child. “I was so excited to bring my new little baseball bag into the stadium,” she said.
“They said, ‘Nope, you have to bring it back to the car or throw it away,’” Boosler stated in the video. “And I said, ‘Wow, the car — let’s see, we paid $50 to park a mile away and it’s 80 degrees and the tickets were $300 in the secondary market. And nowhere did I see it say it has to be a clear bag. You should let me in.’”

After 25 years in showbiz, Gabriel Iglesias was ready for a ‘huge gamble.’ Enter Netflix
The stand-up and SoCal native, better known as ‘Fluffy,’ will make history by headlining Dodgers Stadium as part of the streamer’s L.A. comedy fest.
April 24, 2022
Boosler said that the discussion “got heated” and she did drop “an F-bomb” but the conversation overall “was quiet.”
Her nephew and his child were allowed to enter, Boosler said, but she was told she would “be arrested for trespassing” if she didn’t leave.
“I said, ‘Fine. Arrest me,’” she said in the video. “So they did. They arrested me, they cuffed me behind my back, they put me in a black and white squad car.”
Boosler added: “I have to say the cops, man and woman, were very nice. Yes, I’m white, I know that, but they were nice. Anyway, got to the Dodger Stadium office — they had to press charges ‘cause the guy wouldn’t give up. And the people in the office were pretty nice actually, even though I was handcuffed behind my back and then handcuffed to a bench.”
After two hours, Boosler said, “Finally they said, ‘Well, if you agree to leave, you know, we don’t have to send you to jail downtown.’ And I said, ‘OK, I guess so.’ And so I did leave in a squad car to go call a car to come.”
How dangerous is going to a ballgame at Dodger Stadium?
The Bryan Stow attack, along with a constant stream of social media videos, have made it seem like every night is fight night for fans at Chavez Ravine.
