At the end of each year, when I take the time to look back on all the homes we’ve featured on Clever, it never ceases to amaze me (and impress me! and inspire extreme jealously in me!) what people can do with their homes. There are renters who have figured out how to turn less than 600 square feet into a breezy oasis. There are minimalists who will make you want to give away all your clutter. There are homeowners who truly know how to pick a perfect paint color . From Australia to France, Rome to Rotterdam, the incredible spaces keep on coming. 

We dug into our archive of home tours and found 2022’s fan favorites. From a sleek duplex in Long Island City to a handful of gems in Brooklyn and LA, these homes highlight the best of design and space. Get inspired by 12 of the best Clever home tours from 2022.

This 592-Square-Foot Sydney Home Shows Off Compact Functionality

“At its core, my outlook is nourished by the layers of my culture and travels,” says Yasmine Ghoniem, founder and principal of YSG Studio . Yasmine, who has an Australian mother and an Egyptian father, grew up between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia—with a few years in-between in Australia—and almost a decade in America for postgraduate studies and work. “Like all YSG spaces, everything in my home is interconnected and there is no hierarchy.”

After renting a place in another Sydney suburb for some time, Yasmine and her husband, Tom Swanson, were ready to take the big leap toward home ownership. “Several months of online searching [brought us to] this golden find,” Yasmine says. Situated on a building’s upper level in the city’s iconic oceanside neighborhood of Bondi, the compact 592-square-foot apartment immediately seduced Tom—who is “a mad surfer,” according to Yasmine—with its beachside location. It didn’t take much more to convince the interior designer, who loved the sensible layout. “It shares no common walls and has no internal corridor, meaning absolutely no space is wasted,” she says. “Tall ceilings were the added kicker. Original timber-framed windows were also a requirement.” — Karine Monié

This Long Island City Duplex Is Its Own Hidden Gem of Beautiful Objects

Alan Eckstein has mastered the art of the search. As the founder of Somerset House, a Brooklyn furniture store that’s cultivated from his collection, Alan has the type of knowledge for chairs, consoles, and tables that any professor would have for a subject.

Alan and his wife, fashion stylist Haley Loewenthal , lived in a one-bedroom apartment when the pandemic hit. And though it felt like home, it was missing one detail that suddenly took on a profound amount of importance. “We didn’t have any outdoor space,” he says. “We also wanted to start a family, and there wasn’t room for an extra person to join us there. We knew that in order to grow, or to even have somewhere to exhale, we needed to move.” So, Alan began to do what he does best: search.

The 2,500-square-foot duplex in New York’s Long Island City had two bedrooms and two floors, providing more than enough space for the couple to spread out. It was almost as if Craigslist, a long-beloved treasure chest for Alan, had come through for him again. “I think it was available because of the pandemic,” he notes. “My wife and I were looking for an interesting open space with character. This apartment has that, and the best part about it is that it also has a private roof deck.” — Kelly Dawson

This 800-Square-Foot Brooklyn Apartment Is Full of Smart Storage Solutions

When Megan Hershman, a design director at Common Living, and her husband—Noah Venezia, a graphic designer and adjunct professor at Pratt Institute—stumbled upon the top floor of this two-story town house in Carroll Gardens , it was the abundance of natural light that instantly hooked them. “The unit is north and south-facing, and gets direct sun for most of the day,” Megan says. “We immediately knew it was right for us.” In addition to good lighting, the couple appreciated the old-world charms of the building, like the tin ceilings, cast-iron built-in kitchen sink, and original hardwood floors. “We also loved the old-school charm of the pink bathroom, which felt so playful and one-of-a-kind,” Megan adds. — Monica Mendal

This 594-Square-Foot Apartment in Silver Lake Is a Modernist Jewel

Not much more than 600 square feet, Fanny Singer ’s Rudolph Schindler apartment is housed in a 16-unit complex from the 1920s that has a semi-commune feeling with its interconnected living spaces and garden walkways. As each apartment was given its own identity, Fanny has loved figuring out how to live in this vision. “There is a vast array of different apartments in the building,” she says. “The one across the way is a double-height apartment with an incredible wall of windows. Mine is oriented toward the Hollywood sign—a perfect painting studio.”

The writer and cofounder of design brand Permanent Collection thinks that even though Schindler was an iconic LA architect, the space doesn’t have a particularly local feeling. “The shapes are very Russian Constructivism.” This idea rings true in the wood features, the fireplace, and the shape of the ceiling. “Schindler was very specific with his work. He designed with an idea of exactly how people should live,” Fanny says. “I haven’t become one of those people who are totally obsessed with Schindler, but he becomes part of your psyche.” — Zoë Sessums

Taking Rustic Vibes to New Heights in This Stunning California A-Frame

Bringing things right back up to date, a large floor rug from Cold Picnic injects a sense of modernism to the space. Vintage pieces, including a 1960s dome floor lamp, glass coffee table, and chairs by Marcel Breuer , are judiciously situated, layering the spaces and echoing the home’s midcentury history.

A serene rural setting where you’re surrounded by towering trees, rugged mountains, and shimmering lakes is the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of city life. So naturally, when SoCal dwellers Gloria Noto , founder of organic cosmetics line Noto Botanics , and her partner, designer Ash Owens , first set eyes on the arresting 1,900-square-foot rustic hideaway that they now own, they knew it would reshape their lives. And not just in its triangular A-frame form, but by providing both a personal refuge and workspace.

Located in the remote wilderness of Crestline, California, with its cozy cabins and quaint cottages, their 1964-built midcentury marvel is the first home the creative couple have bought together. “I was in LA and Ash was commuting between there and New York, so we really wanted to find a home for all of us,” Gloria says. She shares a dog, Mio, and cats, Holly and Benny, with Ash. “I still keep a loft in the Arts District so we can go back and forth, but it’s nice having the option to step away from the city now, and to submerge ourselves into this sanctuary we’ve created.” — Kate Lawson

Patrick Janelle Transforms a Rundown Rental Into a Chic New York City Loft

When Patrick signed his lease, he thought the fireplace was functional. As it turns out, he can’t use it, but it still adds character to the place.

Patrick Janelle always dreamed of living in a downtown Manhattan loft . The lifestyle influencer, who also runs the talent agency Untitled Secret , fantasized about an airy and industrial home as he spent the past decade climbing the rungs of the New York City housing ladder. So when he grew out of his most recent abode, a compact yet curated SoHo apartment, he knew it was time to actualize his goal.

“I’m very romantic in my ideals about how I envision things for myself and my life in New York,” Patrick shares. “I’ve always made a point that I wanted to be in Manhattan—as cool as I think Brooklyn is—and I never have had this quintessential loft moment.”

Since Patrick couldn’t afford to buy the type of spacious loft he’d been lusting after, he focused his hunt on rentals that would allow him to renovate. After a handful of viewings, he found exactly what he was looking for: a generous three-bedroom in an early 20th-century factory building with a very lenient landlord. He adored the prime Flatiron location too. — Morgan Goldberg

A Charming 200-Square-Foot Apartment on Paris’s Left Bank

The beautiful 19th-century floor tiles and the fireplace were original to the building. Throughout the loft, discreetly integrated storage is present, sometimes highlighted with bronzed brass details.

You might assume that a 200-square-foot apartment would be the home of a student on a budget or maybe a short-term rental for travelers. This apartment, however, belongs to a successful businesswoman who lives outside of Paris and was in need of a small pied-à-terre in the capital. 

Pauline Lorenzi-Boisrond was commissioned to renovate the studio on the rue du Cherche-Midi. “She comes to Paris regularly for work, but she had grown tired of impersonal hotel rooms where she can’t leave her things from one visit to the next,” Pauline, the interior designer and founder of Studio Ett Hem , explains. “She wanted her own little suite in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area.” Ett hem means “house” in Swedish. It is indeed a fitting name for a designer tasked with overcoming the limitations of the space to bring out its homey charms. — Nicolas Milon

This 400-Square-Foot New York Apartment Is Maximized With Custom Millwork

Like most people with internet access, Corey Kingston is obsessed with scrolling through the real estate listings on Zillow . The New York–based architect could argue that this hobby doubles as valuable market research for Le Whit , the design studio she founded with Liza Curtiss, but its most fruitful reward was the discovery of a Lower East Side apartment she could actually afford.

The 400-square-foot residence popped up on Corey’s screen during a heat wave, so she quickly put in an offer while the city was a ghost town. It was accepted thanks to the lack of competition and her instant connection with the seller, who was giving up the place to enroll in a Philadelphia architecture school. They bonded over an appreciation for the early-20th-century building’s history as a tenement and then a squatter property. — Morgan Goldberg

This Enchanting Los Angeles Apartment Was the Longtime Home of Mae West

A visual centerpiece of the apartment is Kimberly’s “wall of kooks.” It includes portraits she’s picked up through the years. Here, the small black table next to the leather chair was owned by Mary Pickford, the red pen on the coffee table was owned by Zsa Zsa Gabor, and the perfume on the table was owned by Mae West.

Designer Kimberly Biehl ’s fascination with old Hollywood began as a child. That was around the same time that her quest to discover and bring new life to old pieces also began. She started shopping at estate sales, garage sales, and flea markets in her teens. “As soon as I could drive, that’s where I was,” she says.

It’s no wonder then that Kimberly’s own home is filled with old Hollywood relics and classic furniture pieces she’s breathed new life into. What is a wonder, though, is that it’s happening in a piece of old Hollywood itself. Kimberly lives in the former apartment of Mae West, in the historic Ravenswood apartment building. — Lauren Harkawik

Art Imitates Life in This Bauhaus-Inspired Brooklyn Apartment

Raised by two aesthetes in an historic 1899 house in Hartford, Connecticut, Audrey Rose Smith had an art-filled childhood. Her father was a preservation architect, and her mother ran an art gallery, so their home was constantly host to artists and their work. It’s only logical that Audrey later became a gallerist herself.

It also makes sense that she swiftly fell in love with a fellow creative. Only eight months after meeting Ecuadorian photographer and designer Vicente Muñoz , the pair jointly purchased their prewar Clinton Hill apartment in Brooklyn. They married soon after, partnering in matrimony as well as real estate without looking back.

Eight years later, the couple has cultivated a tight-knit and like-minded community in the neighborhood. Turn-of-the-century buildings by architects like William Tubby, Montrose Morris, and Ebenezer L. Roberts pepper the streets where they frequently run into friends and colleagues. “It feels like an art world sitcom,” Audrey quips. “The farmers market is really exciting.” — Morgan Goldberg

Jewel Tones Heighten This 700-Square-Foot Rome Apartment

Counter stools offer a space for guests to accompany the chef in the kitchen. Wood elements further reflect the forest-inspired colored choice for the cabinetry.

“I think of a house as a complicated machine in which something new breaks down every day: a lamp, a faucet, a lock, an electric socket, the boiler, the refrigerator …. But when we can forget about the responsibility of continuous maintenance, we feel happy. Then the other side of the coin, opposed to the responsibilities of ownership, is sheer gratitude.”

That was the thinking of Álvaro Siza, the great Portuguese architect who, at the age of 89, continues to inspire a younger generation. In their space, design duo Eugenia Rolando and Federico Patacchiola of Paros Architettura —a couple in life as well as at work—start from these very words to create subtly inventive places.

A prime example of their work is Casa Costantino, a small but elegant Rome apartment. The building, a 1960s structure in the Ostiense district , is a stone’s throw from the famous Garbatella area. The 700-square-foot apartment is all modern, and thanks to Paros Architettura, it’s been transformed from an old family home full of memories into a light-flooded environment with a contemporary feel. — Ludovica Stevan

A Rotterdam Apartment Is Filled With One Artistic Couple’s Many Vintage Finds

Stéphane Monnet and Jeroen Dijkstra either have good luck, good timing, or simply the good sense to know when something just feels right. When they were apartment hunting in Rotterdam, the Netherlands , Stéphane was seeking out distinctly European surroundings—since he was moving from Toronto—and they found them in a one-bedroom property, downtown. “With all of its flourishes, huge windows, and open spaces, it was a perfect fit,” Stéphane says. “It was already snatched up, but that deal fell through at the last minute.”

Set inside a building from the 1880s, facing a busy street on one end and a verdant courtyard on the other, their home had been recently restored to reflect what existed way back when. Intricate crown molding sprawled across ceilings while wainscoting lined the lower half of the walls, and that artistry was painted in shades of green to contrast the white in between. Windows stretched over their contrasting outdoor views, and plenty of light streamed in. The couple also had a private balcony to share, in case they ever wanted a closer look at the birds, whose pleasant song woke them in the morning. — Kelly Dawson

Co-owned vacation homes bring higher-priced luxury within reach to some

A growing number of homeowners are gaining access to luxury vacation homes that were out of their reach thanks to a co-buying model that enables them to make a purchase with people they don’t know. 

The concept of home co-ownership is not new, said Pacaso CEO and Co-Founder Austin Allison. But while it might be more typical for friends or relatives to pool their money to buy a property, then share in the costs, Pacaso allows you to make the purchase with strangers.

"You don’t have to know the other people because Pacaso is putting together the ownership group and managing all the little details associated with the process,” Allison said. 

His company offers one-eighth shares of luxury vacation homes and then helps with “the entire process to make ownership seamless and turnkey, which means we handle everything from designing the homes to paying the bills, to providing an innovative scheduling software that enables owners to share access to the homes,” he said.

If a co-owner in a traditional model wants to sell, the others would have to buy that person out or sell the whole property, said Allison. “With Pacaso, we created a first of its kind co-ownership marketplace. So with Pacaso, selling a share of a home is really not any different than selling a whole home.” 

The seller chooses the resale listing price, based on recommendations from Pacaso on the value of that share and any increases in the market value of the house. 

Co-buying model helps affordability problem 

Pacaso was started in 2020 by Allison and Spencer Rascoff, former Zillow executives.

There is a housing affordability problem in the United States that is not going away with rising real-estate prices, said Allison. 

“One of the main benefits of co-ownership is that you can afford a lot more home when you're sharing it with other people than you could afford on your own because a $250,000 share of Pacaso is a $2 million home, he said. 

Buying shares in a home in a highly desirable vacation destination gives homeowners more buying power, said Stephen O’Connor, research professor of real estate and the chair of the Center for Real Estate and Urban Analysis at the George Washington University School of Business. 

“Properties in these locations typically don't experience the kind of traumatic swings in values,” said O’Connor. 

When you’re in the market for a luxury second home at a minimum of $250,000 or $500,000, using this type of model to buy shares makes a high-priced home "a bargain,” said O’Connor, who was not aware of Pacaso before USA TODAY reached out for comment but who was familiar with Rascoff as a successful entrepreneur in the real estate market.

 O'Connor, who spent 30 years building houses, but whose research specialty is in affordable housing, acknowledged that co-buying luxury vacation homes is for a specific niche of consumers.

Pacaso shares can start at $250,000 and go up to $2.8 million, with the average share being $775,000, the company said. That can get an owner an eighth of a share of a home valued from $2 million to more than $22 million. 

“When you’re looking at a traditional second home in a vacation area, whether it's Hilton Head or Cape Cod or some other places, it's tough to get in there for even a half a million dollars,” said O’Connor. 

How does Pacaso work? 

Pacaso now operates in 40 second-home destinations in the U.S., Mexico, Paris and London. Pacaso buys homes, decorates and furnishes them before listing them in eight separate shares. Buyers can buy up to half of the shares and can work via traditional Realtors or directly via Pacaso, which partners with Realtors. Financing is also available. 

Home ownership costs, such as property management, maintenance and taxes, are passed along directly to owners via Pacaso. 

The company has sold about one billion dollars in total units and has about 1,500 owners and a few hundred properties, Allison said. 

A scheduling system gives owners access up to 24 months in advance, but has rules that do not allow one set of owners to take all of the peak times, Allison said.   

Is this a timeshare? 

Pacaso's co-buying model is not a timeshare, said Allison. Timeshare owners are pre-paying for the right to use time at a hotel or resort property and often have difficulty in the resale market. 

Pacaso offers partial ownership in a particular home and the ability to sell that share – and realize profit if the market has gone up in value – if an owner sells a share. 

The company does not allow its owners to rent time in a Pacaso home to others via a short-term rental, so owners must use the home themselves or gift it to someone, Allison said. But because there is co-ownership of the home, there will be much less vacant time since other owners will be using their share of the home, he said. There is also a swap program that allows owners to trade time at their Pacaso home for another property, he said. 

Co-ownership gives extended family access to vacation home 

Nour Kasm, her husband and three kids enjoy going on multiple vacations a year. Annually in the spring during their kids’ “ski week” time off from school, the family has been traveling to Park City, Utah. 

The family, from Newport Beach, California, began looking into buying a vacation home in Park City because rentals were getting so pricey, said Kasm. 

"Honestly, with inflation and the kind of COVID effect (on pricing), it was just starting to get unbelievably expensive,” she said, even when the cost was divided amongst family and friends.

Some ski-in/ski-out homes, where you can go to and from the slopes directly from the house, were costing $40,000 a week, Kasm said. 

When Kasm and her husband – who owns a private equity firm that specializes in commercial real estate – began shopping for a vacation home, they were quickly priced out of the market for something that could accommodate their family of five or their large extended family, she said. 

Homes were either too small or way out of their price range, going for anywhere from $3 million to $20 million and above, Kasm said. 

The couple was also concerned about buying a home and then having it year-round when they only wanted to be there a few times a year, Kasm said. They also ran into neighborhoods that had rules prohibiting short-term rentals, which could be a way to recoup some of their costs.

Then they ran across a listing for a Pacaso home.

“We started reading more and we were like ‘Wow, I love this idea,’ ” she said. “It fulfills all of our needs and we can have access to a bigger home.” 

They ran the numbers and decided to buy a share in a five-bedroom house in a prime location a year ago. “It literally was checking off all the boxes,” she said.

They liked the concept so much that they have since bought two more shares in Pacaso homes –in Cabo San Lucas and in Santa Barbara, California, where they split a share with their parents. The Kasms declined to share how much they paid for their shares. 

Nour Kasm has been able to book several holidays and said she feels the system is fair. The owners have also been able to have a large extended family ski vacation with people coming in from all parts of the country to stay at their Park City vacation home.

Dogs roam freely across a spacious grass lawn, stopping every now and then to sniff each other or to accept head rubs and tummy scratches from their loving owners. This could be just about any dog park – except that it is not.

Instead, this is a private home in the Mueang Nakhon Pathom district of central Thailand that a dog lover built specially for himself and his pets. Owned by orthopaedic surgeon Dr Norawee Wainipitapong, this abode has been designed to offer sanctuary to not only its human residents but also to a beloved pack of 14 magnificent dogs, spanning breeds from the majestic Great Pyrenees to the enchanting pocket-sized Pomeranians.

His vision for the award-winning house , called Dox House, goes beyond the typical dwelling as the doctor wanted a home that his dogs would love as well.

“They are like family to me. We take care of each other like humans do. Like humans, they have emotions and can express their feelings. That is what makes them very close to humans,” said Dr Norawee.

He loves of all his dogs and speaks fondly of them. For example, Alice, the first dog he brought into his home, holds a special place in his heart with her gentle nature and unwavering loyalty. Then there are cute mischief-makers like Casper and Momo who add lively energy to the household, reminding everyone of the joy and spontaneity that comes with canine companionship.

Hoping to meet the unique needs of his pets, he envisioned a space where they could thrive physically and emotionally. Recognising the importance of exercise and play, especially for larger breeds, the house boasts expansive grounds where they can roam freely.

Another essential feature of the house is the dog pool, which caters to the dogs' love for swimming while promoting their health and well-being, particularly for the older ones who need low-impact exercise. It was specially built with steps for them to enter and exit the water with ease.

After an extensive search for the right architect, Dr Norawee  chose to collaborate with architect Ekaphap Duangkaew (Nueng), founder of Ekar Architects. He wanted to work with Nueng to take his vision one step further by incorporating harmonious spaces that both his family and his dogs can enjoy together.

“While many architects were interested, I chose to work with Nueng because I felt we could connect and are most in sync with our ideas,” said Dr Norawee.

Neung’s design philosophy centred around creating a seamless connection between humans and dogs, ensuring that every aspect of the house caters to both the distinct needs of humans and canine.

“The purpose of the architecture is to build a space for connection; hence we try to find a common ground between humans and dogs through design,” he explained. For instance, the low, sloping gabled roof and the upwards sloping garden was created to allow humans and dogs to see “eye to eye”.

“When you enter, you need to bow down as the roof slopes down. This allows the human to view the surroundings from the dog’s perspective,” said Neung. At the same time, because the garden gradually slopes upwards, the dog stands in a higher position.

Reflecting a deep understanding of canine behaviour, the roof is made with soundproofing material to preserve privacy and reduce loud noises that may startle the dogs. “Unlike concrete, the fibre asphalt the roofs are made off absorb sound from the surrounding area. When it rains, it also will not cause a loud sound in the roof,” said Nueng.

Other elements of the abode have also been carefully considered. The double gates around the premise ensures the dogs’ safety and curved pillars were used in the building of the house to facilitate easy cleaning since dogs are prone to marking territories at different parts of the property. There is also an outdoor doggy toilet built with gravel so that waste can collected and washed easily for hygiene purposes.

In 2022, Dox House received the prestigious Gold Medal for Outstanding Residential Design from the Association of Siamese Architects for its architectural innovations.

The needs of the human occupants are equally carefully considered, and the architect incorporated plenty of personal space such as a garden where Dr Norawee’s favourite hometown trees grow and indoor living spaces for the family.

“I like the functionality of the house as it meets all our needs. We have a zone where dogs can run and play but also separate zones for when we do not wish to interact a lot,” said Dr Norawee. “I can connect with nature, dogs and people here. It helps me focus on my work and my quality of life is better here. This is the biggest gift from the house,” Dr Norawee observed.

After living in Dox House for two years, Dr Norawee decided to open to space to other dog owners and has since incorporated a pet hotel, grooming salon and even a waiting room for owners to mingle with other like-minded individuals.

This is why the house is a bustling hive of activity these days, which is exactly how Dr Norawee likes it.

“This house is supposed to be the happiest place in a dog's life – and it really is,” he reflected. “We do not just think about our own dogs, I feel that other people's dogs deserve the same care. If a friend brings a dog to me, I will take care of it like it is my own.”

Tycoons and business moguls are known for their extravagant and often eccentric housing choices. But one controversial entrepreneur has taken luxury mansions to new heights — 400 feet, to be precise.

Sitting on top of a 33-story luxury apartment complex in Bengaluru, India, this sky mansion is more than 40,000 square feet with two floors, a helipad, lush gardens, an infinity swimming pool, and a 360-degree viewing deck.

Irfan Razack , the chairman of Prestige Estates Projects, which is part of a joint development agreement to construct the tower, previously said of the project: "It was a challenge to construct the mansion on a huge cantilever at that height, but we have ensured we build it exactly the way it was conceived."

Prestige Constructions didn't respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

The house has an estimated value of $20 million.

Another spectacular home owned by India's superrich is the Ambani family's Mumbai tower , Antilia. It cost an estimated $1 billion to build. It includes nine elevators, a 50-seat cinema, a full-service spa, a 168-car garage, and three helipads.

The Ambani residence is 27 stories high, though its many double-height ceilings mean it's closer in height to a traditional 40-story building.

The sky mansion in Bengaluru, though, was designed for the Indian businessman Vijay Mallya and is entirely separate from the apartments below.

In January, The Times of India reported that a delegation composed of representatives from India's Central Bureau of Investigation, Enforcement Directorate, and National Investigation Agency was set to visit the UK to expedite the extradition of some of India's most wanted fugitives who had taken refuge in the UK.

Princess makeovers and $18K dinners: How to spend a fortune at Disney

For a cool $500,000, you too can have an ultra luxury disney honeymoon, complete with a custom gown and carriage.

For some Disney fans, waiting in ride lines and dining with the masses at the theme parks just won’t do.

Those seeking a lifestyles-of-the-rich-and-famous experience can be ushered through lines by a dedicated guide for as much as $900 an hour; watch fireworks from a private boat for $450; or spend three hours sampling food and wine in the kitchen of a fine-dining restaurant for $635 a person. Not pricey enough? There’s always the $18,000 private dinner experience.

Plenty of people are paying for these experiences; in some cases, demand is so high that there’s a waiting list.

“There are a number of people out there where money is no object,” said Greg Antonelle, co-owner of the travel agency MickeyTravels . “I’m a little jealous.”

He said a five-day trip with VIP access, fancy food and luxury accommodations could easily add up to $30,000 to $40,000.

The Walt Disney Company has made headlines for exorbitant prices, including the now-closed $5,000 Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel and role-playing experience and $115,000 private jet excursion to every global Disney park. Even entry-level visitors complain about ticket prices, food costs and the relatively new expense of skipping lines .

The company offers more budget-friendly options, with the cheapest ticket priced at $104 or $109 in California and Florida respectively. In low season, a value-priced hotel room at Disney World runs for about $155 a night.

“Like other vacation destinations, we give our guests lots of options to customize their Disney experience,” Disney spokesperson Avery Maehrer said in a statement.

Still, some fans complain that a Disney vacation has become so costly that it’s out of reach for the middle class, even without luxury upgrades. Between tickets, hotel, food and souvenirs, even a penny-pinching trip can set a family of four back more than $3,000.

For those who have never pinched a penny in their lives — or just saved for a special-occasion splurge — Disney provides a host of options . The extras range from pricey add-ons to truly aspirational indulgence.

$450-an-hour VIP tour

Consider some of the most annoying aspects of a Disney trip — parking, hiking to the gate, queuing to get in, then standing in, line for rides all day. Now imagine avoiding all of that. That’s the promise of a VIP guide who will pick you up, sweep you through backstage entrances and usher you onto rides with minimal or no waits.

The convenience doesn’t come cheap. At Walt Disney World, the tour costs between $450 and $900 an hour, depending on the time of year, with a minimum of seven hours and maximum of 10. Ten people can be part of the group. Park admission is not included — and neither is a tip.

Antonelle said his company has clients who will book 10 days at Disney World and opt for VIP tours for seven of those days. He said it’s not uncommon to see a plaid-wearing VIP tour guide carry a family’s food trays at restaurants or push strollers with the group.

Cara Goldsbury, president and founder of the luxury Disney travel agency Glass Slipper Concierge , said the guides also share stories, trivia and history, and provide access to special viewing areas for parades and nighttime shows.

“That’s the only way to do it as far as most of our clients are concerned,” she said.

$185 photo package

Photographers are stationed all over Disney World parks to take photos of guests, but those snapshots aren’t free. To get downloads of all the pictures from an entire trip, including from rides, the “Memory Maker” package costs $185 if purchased in advance, or $210 during the vacation.

For those who want more time with a photographer, or don’t want to wait for six other families to get that shot in front of the castle, Disney offers private 20-minute photo sessions for $99.

Staci Kimball, a travel adviser and vice president of GSC World Travel , a sister company to Glass Slipper Concierge, said clients care more about memories and experiences than merchandise.

“We really do always recommend either a private photo session or certainly buying the Memory Maker photo package so they can capture all of those memories,” she said.

$250 custom lightsaber

Mickey Mouse ears, popcorn buckets and bubble wands are always in demand, but some travelers want to have a role in making their souvenirs.

Kimball said she helps clients book the Savi’s Workshop experience, where Star Wars-loving visitors can custom-build their own lightsaber. It costs about $250 at Hollywood Studio s in Florida and $220 at Disneyland in California .

“That is a really popular, popular activity,” she said. “That can also be hard to get.”

Another in-demand interactive gadget: a build-your-own droid for about $120 in Florida and $100 in California .

$449 fireworks cruise

Don’t want to brave crowds for fireworks? There are a number of ways to get a better view — including from the water.

Starting at $449, a private fireworks cruise at Disney World can seat up to 10 people and includes snacks and drinks. Chartered boats set sail from several hotels to view the fireworks show at Epcot and Magic Kingdom.

“What we’ve learned is people that are spending exorbitant amounts of money on their vacation, they don’t like waiting in lines, number one, and they don’t like being 20 rows of people back for fireworks,” Antonelle said. Sure, fireworks are overhead, but who really wants to camp out for a good spot and look at hundreds of other necks craning if they can avoid it?

$450 princess makeover

Kids who dream of being royalty, or just looking like the product of a fairy godmother’s magic wand, can visit Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Magic Kingdom or Disneyland Park .

Packages start at $99.95 for the princess treatment in both locations or $19.95 for a knight’s look in Florida and $49.95 in California. The most expensive option, starting at $450, includes a “signature Disney Princess gown,” crystal tiara, garment bag, hairstyling, makeup, sash, face gem and nail polish.

“I just did Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique with my 5-year-old granddaughter,” said Goldsbury, who wrote “ The Luxury Guide to Walt Disney World Resort .” “It was the most darling experience.”

$7,900-plus a night hotel

Goldsbury said her company prefers to book clients at Disney World’s priciest, most conveniently located — or “deluxe” — resorts, especially those connected by monorail to the Magic Kingdom. Some rooms have “club level” designation with lounges and free food, she said.

A search of available inventory shows a club-level two-bedroom suite at the Grand Floridian for $3,597 a night in early April of 2025. The Polynesian’s King Kamehameha suite is listed for $3,320 in late August of 2025, a typical slow season.

In California, the two-bedroom Mickey Mouse suite at the Disneyland Hotel is going for about $5,025 in June of this year, and the two-bedroom Mount Whitney suite at the Grand Californian is listed for a whopping $7,984 a night in June.

For some travelers, deluxe hotel prices pose zero problems. Antonelle said he books a “royal family from overseas” at a Disney World deluxe resort.

“They’ll book out literally dozens of rooms because they’re bringing their nannies, they’re bringing their security,” he said.

$18,000 private dining experience

Disney parks are full of budget-stretching drinking and dining options. But three-course dinner inspired by “Beauty and the Beast?” Get ready to shell out $70 per adult. A tequila tasting with a “certified Tequila Ambassador” costs $180 per person. The Chef’s Table at Victoria & Albert’s, a restaurant at the Grand Floridian Resort, is a hot ticket at $635 a person for wine and food.

21 Royal, a private dining experience situated atop Pirates of the Caribbean in California, may take the cake. It costs $18,000 for a group as large as 12 and promises transportation, a reception, opportunity to explore the apartment-type surroundings, a meal on gold-plated dinnerware and balcony dessert with a view of evening entertainment.

AJ Wolfe, owner of the Disney Food Blog , has eaten at 21 Royal twice.

“It was luxurious for sure — the food was wonderful, and I felt like a VIP,” she wrote in an email. “Also, for a Disney history nerd it’s amazing because you know that Walt was integral in thinking about that space — maybe not the decor necessarily, but the layout.”

$95,000 top-floor hotel buyout

The Four Seasons Resort Orlando, near the theme parks, allows guests to rent out its entire 16th floor , which includes balconies with a view of fireworks at Epcot and Magic Kingdom. While the hotel isn’t operated by Disney, advisers say it’s a good fit for luxury travelers who are used to five-star service.

According to the resort, the cost for the top floor is $95,000 a night, plus tax. On a smaller but still extremely expensive scale, prices for the Presidential Suite start at $19,000 a night and $22,000 a night for the Royal Suite.

$500,000 honeymoon

Jennifer Kozlow, a travel adviser and vice president of Glass Slipper Concierge, said she had clients who spent their five-week honeymoon at Disney World. The trip included transportation to a special event in a carriage, a custom gown, private dining as the characters from “Beauty and the Beast” danced, a special fireworks viewing and VIP tours every other day for the five-week stretch. The couple stayed in presidential suites at four different hotels.

Another client managed to spend the same amount of money in a much shorter stretch: four days. Kozlow said the group — a family of 37 — bought out the top floor of the Four Seasons to celebrate the matriarch’s 80th birthday. The family had private meals delivered to their suites so relatives could come and go. The group did daily VIP tours using four guides.

“They flew in on a private plane just to see the resort,” Kozlow said.

There is one thing money can’t buy, she said.

“People do ask: Can they get a character to come to their suite? That you definitely can’t do,” Kozlow said. “They don’t tuck you in at night.”
