Halloween Mini House Tour {& 14 more Spook-tacular Spaces!!}

Come see my scary halloween mini house tour, and be prepared to be scared.

Spook-tacular.

I think I just like saying that word.

Halloween décor can be pretty Spook-tacular.

See, there I go saying it again.

Speaking of saying things, I will say that Halloween is one holiday that my boys love decorating for.

They were pretty pumped about adding black creepy spiders and flies to Mom’s flowers.

There may or may not have been approximately fifty creepy spiders and flies piled up on top of one bloom.

Kind of reminds me of the way that kid’s decorate the Christmas tree…with all the decorations concentrated in one little area.

But they were having fun, so who am I to rain on their spider-placing parade?

I waited until they’d gone to bed to go back and ‘edit’ their arrangement:)

Spooktacular Halloween House Tour poster.

Oh, and today 14 of my fellow bloggers are sharing their own Spook-tacular Halloween House Tours as well!

I can’t wait to see how they have decorated for the spooky holiday… all the links to their fabulous tours are at the bottom of this post.

15 Spook-tacular Halloween House Tours poster.

So without further ado, come on in for the mini-tour of my house…

Paper black spiders traipse across our wall and DIY large wooden sign …

Black spiders crawling up the wall by the TV.

This year my DIY black and white hand sketched sharpie pumpkins grace our window ledge…right beside the drop cloth sharpie pillow I shared recently…

There is a black spider pillow and pumpkins decorating the window sill.

Some of the ‘edited’ spider covered blooms…

There are black spiders crawling up a plant.

My oldest son’s favourite thing to decorate with was this black netting that I got at the dollar store last year… along with some little black crows and owls.  It makes for a super quick and easy way to add a Halloween feel to our gallery wall.

Black netting and black crows are on the wall in the sitting room.

The dining room has been invaded by black crows. There is something super creepy about crows… kind of reminds me of the crow scenes in Vampire Diaries. If you don’t follow that show, you are truly missing out.

There are black crows and a skeleton in the dining room.

Another easy way to add a little Halloween feel? Throw some giant spiders in your fall centerpiece.

The boys love these giant tarantulas- and I must say they are pretty popular each night during dinnertime.

While they love the spiders, I love the contrast of the orange, yellow, and browns against the crisp black and cream of my easy DIY drop cloth striped table runner.

A big tarantula spider is on the faux fruit which is on the dining room table.

The mantel has a few of last year’s projects…such as the chevron spider art , and the easy DIY Spell Books that I shared last year.

A white cabinet with bugs, skulls and witches brew on top of it.

Maybe you read about how I transformed a cheap plastic skull from the dollar store into this faux mercury Pottery Barn Knock Off? I did the same with all these mini skulls from the dollar store as well… a cheap and easy vase filler.

Black spattered skulls are beside a stack of books.

Done for today!

Next week I will show you a little of our outdoor Halloween décor…and our entry hall.

Ready for another creepy Halloween tour?

I know that house tours are my fave!!

You are in luck!

Today you can head over to these fabulous blogs for some more Spook-tacular Halloween inspiration!

Halloween Home Tour (2020)

Halloween home tour – halloween is our favorite holiday and i’m excited to share easy ideas to decorate your home for this spooky holiday..

Wicked Witch Silhouette - Halloween Home Tour | Finding Silver Pennies #halloweeninspiration #homedecor #fallinspiration

Ever since I was a little girl Halloween has been my favorite holiday. My mom would always make me the BEST costumes – one year I was Michael Jackson (I wanted to marry him when I was little), another I was a mermaid, then I was a fairy princess with very heavy eye make up. A wicked witch with a green face mask that hardened as I trick or treated. The love for this holiday has rubbed off on our two sons. They love decorating and coming up with fun costumes. You can see our Halloween Home Tour from 2018 here .

This year I know Halloween just won’t be the same. Usually the harbor closes to traffic and the merchants fling open their doors to welcome a thousand trick or treaters. I’ve shared more about this on the blog here and here . I’ve also shared some of the boys Halloween costumes – the joker , a giant crow , Maverick and an Army Soldier . This year they’ve decided not to dress up. Instead of Trick or Treating, we’re going to make a spooky home cooked dinner and watch The Witches . I’ll leave a bowl of candy out for Trick or Treaters.

Since they’re not trick or treating we decided to decorate our home and celebrate our favorite holiday. We baked a batch of Reese’s Pieces Cookies and decorated to our hearts’ content.

Wicked Witch Silhouette

We made our wicked witch a few years back from one of John’s drawings. It was pretty easy to do. We used plywood and spray paint. You can make anything for your front yard this way. You can see more about that here .

This year we decided to put her in front of the pool gate with an assortment of pumpkins. I dreamt of piling the pumpkins really high but it just wasn’t in the budget this year.

We kept it pretty simple. A few pumpkins and a feather wreath which was from Target a few years ago.

The pre-lit jack-o-lantern was from the Home Depot a few years ago. I love these vintage lights I found at a consignment store a few years back. The silhouette is perfect for Halloween and I’ve used them inside and out.

Let’s move into the living room. We’ve decorated the desk and mantel in here.

Halloween Mantel

Simple Halloween Mantel - Halloween Home Tour | Finding Silver Pennies #halloweeninspiration #homedecor #fallinspiration

All the elements in the living room are ones we had. I like to store everything in big bins in the basement.

The bottles are done with DIY labels you can get the tutorial here . I stuffed grass fronds from our garden into the bottles and it’s given such a lovely and soft affect.

I placed a resin skull on it with more of the grasses.

It’s so realistic. I will warn you the resin was very smelly so had to let it air out.

Creepy in a good kind of way!

Skeletons in the Playroom

I can’t really show you the whole playroom because, once again, it’s a mess. John and Conor love skeletons and both are hiding their skeletons each night for us to find in the morning (kind of like elf on the shelf!).

Samantha

Love the spooky touches!! Where did you get the pumpkins on the mantle? They are adorable!!

We typically don’t go out for Halloween. When my girls were little, it seemed like Halloween was always cold and rainy and they would end up sick the next morning from being out the night before. My toddler son has special needs and gets scared easily so our tradition is to stay in and make a big pot of chili and a special Halloween dessert and watch fun Halloween movies all night.

Danielle Driscoll

Hi Samantha, the pumpkins on the mantel were from Target maybe 4 or 5 years ago. I love your tradition of cozy homemade chili, a special dessert, and Halloween movies. So fun!

Rita C at Panoply

I thoroughly enjoyed this tour, Danielle! While it’s sad that your boys are now at the age where trick or treating is being put to bed, it’s great that they enjoy the fun in decorating too. The skeleton hiding alongside the chest of drawers made me laugh out loud. I love the witchy cutout outside too. The grass fronds, the spiders….all the details make it a fun tour. Enjoy the season!

I’m so glad you enjoyed the tour, Rita. We really do love Halloween over here. It certainly is bittersweet that they’re getting older, but they love decorating and are having so much fun with their skeletons 😉

judy Coggins

Danielle, your home looks just wonderful as it always does. What a fun Look you’ve created. ❤️❤️

Thank you, Judy, it really was fun to decorate it with John & Conor. Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for stopping by xx

Great! I especially love the skeleton behind the piano!

My husband actually drove home with that strapped into the front passenger seat. Thankfully he wasn’t pulled over. Ha! ha!

Halloween Happy Vlogger Shows off Her Amazing Halloween-Themed Home

Sam, creator of YouTube vlog Halloween Happy, gave Woman's Day a tour of her amazing Halloween-themed home, filled with Halloween decorations, music, books and more.

preview for 10 Haunting Facts About Halloween

Then a few years ago, just when Sam thought her life couldn't be any more Halloween-centric, she moved to one of the spookiest towns in America: Salem, Massachusetts. When she visited the city for the first time, it instantly felt like home. "The weather was so cold, and lots of places were closed because of a snowstorm, but just walking around lit up my heart and soul," she says. It didn't take her long to deck out every room of her new home with Halloween décor and she gave Woman's Da y an exclusive peek inside.

halloween happy

The kitchen is filled with Halloween dishware.

Sam's home doesn't have a dining table, so most of her meals take place at the kitchen counter. "I only have four 'normal' plates, the rest are Halloween," she says. She particularly loves buying placemats: "They're really versatile. I put them on coffee tables and bookcases to give them an extra punch of Halloween.

halloween happy

She owns a jaw-dropping amount of Halloween mugs.

Over 100 mugs and counting! "Believe it or not, I have passed up on a lot. I look for ones that have character or remind me of my childhood," she says. "But as you can probably tell, I'm a sucker for Jack-o-lantern faces ."

halloween happy

The bathroom makes Sam feel like she lives in a "haunted castle."

"If you want to decorate your whole house for Halloween, the bathroom is the easiest place to start," she says. "It's usually a smaller space so it only takes a few pieces to transform it." Despite all of the standout bathroom décor, it's the little touches that guests tend to notice most. "I put scrap ghost ribbon around the toilet paper and people comment on it all the time."

halloween happy

Her living room has a horror-themed wall.

Sam's boyfriend is a huge fan of horror films , so he decorated their living room wall with movie posters, figurines and special photographs. (Talk about a match made in Halloween heaven.) "There are ReAction figures of popular horror characters, like Michael Myers from Halloween , and monsters, like Dracula and Frankenstein. There's also a Bates Motel sign, a bunch of Freddy Krueger merchandise, and photos of my boyfriend with horror celebrities he's met over the years."

halloween happy

She collects Halloween books and music.

"I'm very picky about the records I buy, that's why I don't have as many records as I do mugs," says Sam. Her Halloween music collection includes movie soundtracks, like from the films Get Out and Halloween , and lesser-known records she finds at thrift stores, like one from the '80s called Halloween at Home, which plays ghost stories and scary sound effects. As for books, she's been buying up a bunch just in the past few years. "Just flipping through makes me happy and nostalgic. Sometimes I'll pull a few from the bookcase to create a decorative stack in another area of the house."

halloween happy

There are glimpses of other holidays in the house.

Yes, Sam does own a Christmas tree — it's just covered in Halloween decorations instead of traditional Christmas ornaments . She also has a designated corner with a shelving cube that she redesigns based on the season. "In December, I'll add a few touches of Christmas that don't scream Christmas, like snowmen wearing neutral colors or a spooky item covered in silver glitter," she says. Her dedication to Halloween has had some people wondering whether her year-round celebration has caused the holiday to lose its luster. "Halloween feels just as magical to me as it did decades ago. If anything, I wish I started decorating my house like this sooner."

2023 Halloween Home Tour

This weekend I finally finished decorating for fall and Halloween. I didn’t buy any new decor last year, and I’ve been cycling through a lot of the same decorations for several years now. So this year I decided to refresh my color palette in the living room. Instead of shades of orange, I opted for a moodier palette of pink, purple, black, and white. I met up with my girlfriends for some home decor shopping, and it was such fun that I hope we make it a yearly tradition. We went to Home Goods , TJ Maxx , and At Home . It’s always a bit of a treasure hunt at Home Goods and TJ Maxx, and the low prices make it easy to go on a spree. I came home with some spooky-cute ghost decorations, wreaths, and a throw pillow and blanket.

I was also gifted a haul of goodies from my friends over at Your Hearts Content on Etsy . You’ve seen me feature their viral velvet pumpkins for fall , their velvet mushrooms for holiday , and their velvet carrots for Easter . For this Halloween, they sent along a selection of pink and purple velvet pumpkins, hearts, bottle brush trees, and new knit mini pumpkins. You’ll spot my new pieces throughout my living room decor in this 2023 Halloween Home Tour. The vibe is witchy and whimsical, which has been a fun departure from past years here , here , and here . If you’re liking the pink and purple Halloween decor as much as I am, I’ve also linked my purchases and other similar styles for you to shop. Happy decorating!

Prepare to be bewitched by a spine-tingling transformation. Dive into my Halloween-themed home makeover, where I've sprinkled vintage charm and whimsy throughout every room. Halloween is one of my very favorite holidays (it’s honestly tied with Christmas!), so I like to do something a little different to raise the bar each year. This year, however, is my favorite year because I didn’t leave a corner untouched and I incorporated themes for every room, which I absolutely don’t regret.

Make sure to hit the subscribe and notification buttons so you don't miss any spooky home decor content!

halloween home tours youtube

This will be an overview post, but I’ll be diving into each theme in separate upcoming posts. As the month unfolds, stay tuned for our Halloween blog post series, taking over the Decor section throughout October. I’m also in the process of filming new YouTube videos for the new channel and will be sure to link them here when ready! So, my fellow Halloween aficionados, prepare to be captivated and inspired. Whether you're drawn to vintage elegance, glamorous pink, or the allure of bewitching witches, there's something here to ignite the Halloween spirit within you. Let your imagination run wild, as you embark on this spooktacular journey through our Halloween wonderland.

Closet: Pink Halloween Glam

Since this is my dedicated space, I’ve gone all out with Pink Halloween Glam. Picture pink decor items with striking black accents - these are pieces that were catching my eye throughout the Code Orange Halloween shopping season, and the cake is especially fun.

Everything has to have a touch of pink to make it into this Halloween glam closet.

The opposite wall showcases pastels and Halloween glam pieces, all beautifully illuminated with soft lighting. This was my opportunity to still incorporate pastel pink, but also bring in some complementing colors.

For a dash of glam, we've adorned the space with elegant, glamorous items that truly make it shine, embracing the spirit of Halloween with a fabulous twist.

Bathroom: Witch House

Prepare to be enchanted as you step into my Witch House-inspired bathroom. This bewitching space draws inspiration from my trip to Salem and my love for Hocus Pocus.

As you explore, you'll find the Sanderson sisters taking center stage in a large portrait, a shrine filled with witch spells atop one of the cabinets, and old photos of witches adorning the walls. Even Beetlejuice and Lidia make an appearance, adding their brand of magic to the mix.

Witchy wall accents, a striking black candelabra, and decor collected from Michaels, Homegoods, TJMaxx, and other enchanting sources transform this space into a bewitching escape.

This bathroom is a delightful journey into the world of witches and enchantment, capturing the essence of Salem and the allure of Hocus Pocus.

Bedroom: Haunted Mansion & Spooky Skellies

My bedroom is the heart of this Halloween home transformation. The main theme of this room is none other than Disney’s Haunted Mansion.

halloween home tours youtube

Black candles and accents are thoughtfully incorporated throughout, while spooky essentials like bats on the walls and skeleton accents creates a delightfully eerie atmosphere.

Among the standout additions this year are the Haunted Mansion pieces from Lowes because they really make the theme come alive.

halloween home tours youtube

Many of my most cherished pieces find their place in this room, as it embodies the favorite themes I've grown up with. My Department 56 collection holds a special place in my heart, as it's a tradition passed down from my grandmother.

halloween home tours youtube

I've added The Haunted Mansion house and accessories, to continue this tradition for generations to come.

halloween home tours youtube

Another favorite centerpiece of my bedroom is the skelly shrine, which is filled with some of my favorite pieces. One new one this year that became an instant forever favorite is a gorgeous witch sitting underneath a purple droopy light tree. She was pricy, but so worth it.

halloween home tours youtube

The room comes alive with the magic of Halloween, providing us with a cozy and enchanted space to celebrate the season. This bedroom is a tribute to the timeless enchantment of Disney's Haunted Mansion, creating a space that's both nostalgic and captivating.

halloween home tours youtube

Our Halloween home makeover is a testament to the creativity, whimsy, and the pure joy that the season brings. Whether you're a fan of vintage charm, glamorous pink, or the world of bewitching witches, there's something here for every Halloween enthusiast. Allow your imagination to roam freely and create your very own spooktacular sanctuary. We invite you to stay tuned for our Halloween blog post series, taking over the Decor section throughout the month of October. Feel free to suggest topics you'd like to see featured.

Happy hauntings!

Halloween Home Tour 2022

Here’s a little confession, I’m a bit of a voyeur. I like to look at other people’s houses.

Nothing creepy! I’m not peeking into people’s windows while they’re undressing. But I love open houses and home tours. Lately, I’ve been watching Holiday Home tours on YouTube.

I was that kid that went trick-or-treating and kept trying to look inside people’s houses, just to see how other people lived. Candy was nice, but those kids had better toys than we did!

This is the first time I’m creating a home tour of MY house decked out for Halloween. There are dozens of handmade things in my home that I absolutely love, and I’m hoping a few of them will inspire you to create something you love and cherish in your home.

Watch the video above to see all the handmade, thrifted, and purchased items. Then look through this page for more info on those items. If something doesn’t have a pattern or tutorial, I’d be happy to create those if enough people request it.

Biden visits his childhood Scranton home and plays up working-class roots in first day of Pa. tour

P resident Joe Biden described his childhood hometown of Scranton as a place that “climbs into your heart and never leaves,” as he launched a three-day long tour of Pennsylvania meant to appeal to working-class voters.

Biden has often returned to Scranton when he needs a boost or a political reset. Beneath a banner that read “Tax Fairness for All Americans,” Biden aimed to contrast his working-class roots in the city with former President Donald Trump’s more privileged background.

“When I look at the economy, I don’t see it through the eyes of Mar-a-Lago. I see it through the eyes of Scranton,” Biden told the crowd at the downtown Cultural Center.

The president, who will also visit Pittsburgh and Philadelphia this week, has increasingly fixated on his native state as being essential to his political survival. The visit comes one week before Pennsylvania’s primary election, a contest that will be an early test of the breadth of both candidates’ support in a critical swing state.

The president came to Scranton to call for higher taxes on the rich and to reinforce his candidacy as a fight for the middle class, as Trump spends the week in a Manhattan courtroom for his first criminal trial.

“People like Donald Trump learned very different lessons,” Biden said. “He learned the best way to get rich was inherit it. Not a bad way. He learned that paying taxes was something people who work for a living did, not him. He learned that telling people you’re fired was something to laugh about.”

It’s a tactic that Biden used in the 2020 campaign, which he often framed as Scranton vs. Park Avenue. His Tuesday remarks were sprinkled with a mix of personal anecdotes about growing up in the state’s sixth largest city and jabs at his opponent, whom he called “Donald Herbert Hoover Trump” in reference to the president who oversaw the beginning of the Great Depression.

“Now Trump is running again on the same failed trickle-down policies,” Biden said. “Nothing has changed. Just a few months ago — at a closed-door event in Mar-a-Lago — he told his billionaire donors, ‘You’re rich as hell. We’re going to give you tax cuts.’”

After his remarks, Biden stopped at his old house in the Green Ridge neighborhood of Scranton, a place he has visited many times, including during the 2020 campaign, when he signed the wall “from this house to the White House by the grace of God.”

Trump — and many of his supporters — have long scoffed at Biden’s claims to the Electric City, given that he spent only a fraction of his 77 years living there. During rallies in Pennsylvania, Trump has made a point of saying Biden had “abandoned” Scranton.

The theme across the tour this week will be the economy, a key issue for voters and one that Biden has struggled to connect on after severe inflation for much of his presidency.

“Joe Biden’s campaign stops in Pennsylvania this week ought to serve as a sobering reminder of the failures his administration’s policies have had for the Keystone State,” Pennsylvania GOP chairman Lawrence Tabas said in a release.

“This past year alone, inflation within the state has surged. … Families cannot afford to go grocery shopping and home prices have skyrocketed. Voters will remember all of President Biden’s failures when they cast their vote this November.”

A contrast in tax policies

Inflation spiked last week to its highest level in six months and polls consistently show that voters trust Trump more on the economy and consider it a vital issue.

In Tuesday’s remarks, Biden focused on taxes to reframe the conversation around the economy, which has dogged his reelection campaign. He told the crowd in Scranton that the wealthy should pay more in taxes to reduce the federal deficit and help fund programs for the poor and middle class.

“I’m just asking for basic fairness,” he said, later arguing that “no billionaire should pay a lower tax rate than a teacher.”

Trump’s 2017 tax cuts slashed the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21% and reduced rates for most individual taxpayers, including the wealthiest Americans. Many of those cuts will sunset in 2025, which raises the stakes of the issue in the presidential race.

Biden and Trump both say they would keep cuts in place for households making under $400,000 a year but they differ when it comes to the highest earners.

Trump has called for extending tax cuts, which would deliver an average $175,000 cut for the top 0.1%. He points to economic growth from 2018 and 2019 after tax cuts were in place.

Biden has said he wants to raise $4.9 trillion in revenue over 10 years with higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations. His platform includes a “billionaire’s tax,” which would set a minimum rate of 25% on the income of the richest Americans. He’s also said he would like to raise the corporate tax rate from 21% to 28%.

All in on Pennsylvania

Biden was introduced by a Scrantonian who lives down the street from his former home and ended his address by saying he thinks a lot about a statue in downtown Scranton dedicated to soldiers who fought in World War II.

He then blasted Trump for disparaging comments the former president reportedly made about wounded soldiers in 2018 and implored the audience to listen to what Trump says and believe him.

Biden exited the stage to a standing ovation from his hometown crowd and then headed to the Washington Avenue home where he lived in as a child. Neighbors lined up as the motorcade wound by on a sunny day, some holding Biden signs and waving American flags.

As the motorcade parked and Biden walked up to the three-story Colonial, a crowd of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered about 100 yards away and chanted, accusing Biden of being “complicit with genocide.”

Their voices competed with shouts from neighbors on nearby neatly trimmed lawns chanting “We Want Joe!” And “Four more years!”

When Biden left the house about an hour and 45 minutes later, he walked out holding hands with several kids wearing uniforms for St. Clare/St. Paul School and greeted some neighbors gathered on the lawn.

”Take him down, Joe,” one man said as Biden smiled. “Anything we can do to help,” another said.

Biden’s campaign has already opened 14 offices in Pennsylvania and hired dozens of staff, a contrast with Trump, who polls closely with Biden in Pennsylvania despite having no staff or offices assigned here.

Trump, who narrowly won Pennsylvania in 2016 and lost it in 2020, was in Bucks County for a fundraiser and in the Lehigh Valley for a rally on Saturday , further highlighting what the next seven months of presidential politicking may look like in the state.

Trump’s New York trial will likely restrict his ability to campaign in Pennsylvania during weekdays in the final lead-up to the April 23 primary. While the former president sat in a courtroom, his surrogates sought to hammer Biden on inflation.

“It’s no wonder why Pennsylvanians will vote to make America affordable again and elect President Trump in November,” Republican National Committee chair Michael Whatley said in a statement.

On the same day he visited Scranton, Biden released a digital ad featuring interviews with his cousin, a grade school classmate, and a local business owner, arguing that he’s the best pick for the middle class.

Sarah Cruz, who appeared in the digital ad that Biden’s team released, also attended Biden’s event Tuesday. The 37-year-old told The Inquirer she moved to the city when she was 10 and has served on its school board. Cruz’s father’s family is from Puerto Rico and her mother is from Honduras.

“Joe Biden’s history began in Scranton and so he has those hometown roots and that feel,” Cruz said. “But he doesn’t just limit that sense of belonging to people who look like him or who are born and raised in Scranton. He embraces people who may not be from the area, but who came to the United States and to Scranton for a better life or for better opportunities.”

Clearwater Beach tour boat captain was drunk on the job, fell off boat, police say

  • Jack Prator Times staff

A tour boat captain stumbled into work on Clearwater Beach, voyaged out to sea and drunkenly fell overboard, police said.

John Beckwith, 53, was arrested Friday on a charge of boating under the influence. The captain for Clearwater Fun Boat Tours had 30 customers on board, some telling police he was so impaired he fell off the boat.

Employees told Clearwater police Beckwith “arrived to work stumbling and had food all over his face,” according to an arrest report.

Officers noticed his eyes were bloodshot and they smelled alcohol on his breath. Beckwith “performed poorly” on a field sobriety test and blew a 0.118 on a breathalyzer, which is over the 0.08 level at which Florida law says someone is impaired.

Beckwith was released Saturday afternoon without being required to post bail. The incident is Beckwith’s fourth charge for operating a vehicle while impaired, records show. He was convicted twice in Michigan and again for an “extreme DUI” in Arizona.

The Clearwater Beach tour provides customers a chance to spot dolphins playing in the waves “while indulging in a delicious ice cream sundae” on a “family-friendly boat,” according to the company’s website . Last year, it was awarded Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Award, the website states.

Neither Beckwith nor a representative for the tour boat company could be reached by phone for comment.
