Amex GBT to Acquire Business Travel Solutions Provider CWT for $570 Million
American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) agreed to acquire global business travel and meetings solutions provider CWT for $570 million.
The planned acquisition would offer CWT’s 4,000 customers access to the Amex GBT ecosystem and create about $850 million in revenue, the companies said in a Monday (March 25) press release. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.
“Bringing CWT onto the proven Amex GBT software and services model will create more choice for customers, more opportunities for people and more value for shareholders,” Amex GBT CEO Phil Abbott said in the release.
Amex GBT, which is operated by Global Business Travel Group, supplies B2B software and services for travel, expense, and meetings and events, according to the release. Its portfolio covers meetings and events, consulting and sustainability solutions, while its marketplace offers access to a range of other offerings, the release said.
If the acquisition closes, CWT customers would have access to Amex GBT’s software and services for travel and expense — Neo 1 , Neo and Egencia — and its solution that allows customers to integrate with technology partners, Select , the release said.
For Amex GBT and CWT, the planned transaction would deliver about $155 million in synergies and greater capacity for investment in software and services, per the release.
“Joining forces with Amex GBT helps accelerate our vision of a tech-enabled future for business travel, where people and technology combine to deliver an exceptional customer experience,” CWT CEO Patrick Andersen said in the release. “We are highly confident in the value creation of the combined company.”
More small- to medium-sized business (SMB) customers are recognizing the value of managed travel , Amex GBT executives told investors March 5 during the company’s quarterly earnings call.
“[SMB] new wins for 2023 totaled $2.2 billion, a record for our business, and were up $100 million year over year,” Abbott said during the call. “Of this, approximately 30% has come from previously unmanaged customers who are looking for the service savings and control that our solutions provide. This is 5 percentage points higher than our mix of unmanaged new wins in 2022.”

SAP Concur Enriches Travel and Expense Experiences with Generative AI at SAP Concur Fusion 2024
LAS VEGAS — SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) today announced new product and partnership milestones that reimagine travel and expense management experiences and offer new capabilities powered by generative AI.
These announcements were made at SAP Concur Fusion 2024 , the flagship conference for SAP Concur users and experts, from March 19-21 in Las Vegas.
AI is only as good as the quality and breadth of the data it draws upon. SAP Concur is one of the global market leaders in travel and expense solutions with more than 92 million end users booking travel and/or processing expenses.
SAP debuted new business AI capabilities in SAP Concur solutions to help customers save time and improve accuracy when managing business travel and expenses:
- Concur Request: Now uses generative AI to provide intelligent cost estimates for trip planning.
- ExpenseIt solution: Customers can upload receipt images to ExpenseIt web, where it taps AI to automatically create a new expense with several key fields prepopulated. Plus, ExpenseIt now itemizes hotel folios using generative AI.
- Generative AI search : A new capability within Concur Support allows SAP Concur customers to type questions in natural language and get quick answers using generative AI without having to submit a support ticket.
The evolution of Concur Travel, featuring a consumer-grade user experience, now offers new content and features:
- Hotel and rail content: New direct integrations to American Express GBT, BCD, CWT RoomIt, FCTG and HRS designed to enhance the traveler’s shopping experience by providing more options, clarity and transparency. Additionally, users can search, book and purchase UK rail content.
- Microsoft Teams integration : Travelers can share a reservation from their Concur Travel trip list to a Microsoft Teams chat, so that coworkers can book the same trip.
- Sustainability-based travel decisions: Through an integration with Thrust Carbon , one of the travel industry’s leading independent sustainability intelligence platforms, evolution of Concur Travel users can view and sort the greenhouse gas emissions of each flight segment, as well as rail and car rental options, and browse hotel providers by emissions, certifications and sustainability scores.
The new, reimagined Concur Expense experience is AI-powered, optimized for mobile and already being used by early adopter customers. In the new experience, expense reports are automatically created and easily managed thanks to the following capabilities and a new partnership with Mastercard :
- Automatic expense entry, itemization, and categorization with ExpenseIt
- Timeline view of expenses
- Intelligent notifications such as missing receipts, missing attendees or expense reports ready for submission
- Attendee suggestion based on expense type and amount
- Automated expense creation for Mastercard transactions

Global Business Travel Group to acquire CWT for $570M
A merican Express Global Business Travel signed a definitive agreement to acquire CWT, valuing the global business travel and meetings solutions provider at about $570M on a cash-free, debt-free basis, said Global Business Travel ( NYSE: GBTG ) on Monday.
At the closing of the transaction, Amex GTB expects to issue about 71.7 million shares at a fixed price of $6.00 per share and to use cash on hand to fund the retirement of CWT debt and the remaining transaction consideration.
The acquisition was expected to break break-even to earnings per share in the first year of transaction close and accretive thereafter.
The deal would give CWT customers access to Amex GBT’s proprietary software and services for travel and expense, including Neo1, Neo, and Egencia, in addition to Select.
CWT serves 4,000 customers and is expected to generate approximately $850 million in revenues and $70 million–$80 million of Adjusted EBITDA in 2024, the company added.
The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2024. GBTG shares were 5% higher in premarket trading.

FIRST HOUR - LONELINESS - One in three Australians face the pressing public health concern of loneliness, as recognized by the World Health Organization, highlighting its widespread impact on physical and mental well-being. Among the most vulnerable are lonely Australians aged 65 and over. Young adults aged 18 to 24 are also deeply affected. This not only impacts individuals but also bears a hefty economic burden, estimated at $2.7 billion annually.
However, collaborative efforts led by Dr. Rosanne Freak-Poli at Monash University offer hope. Their initiative engages older Australians in combating social isolation, providing a beacon of hope in the fight against loneliness. She joined Ending Loneliness Together CEO, Associate Professor Michelle Lim with Philip Clark on Nightlife to shine a light on loneliness and to offer solutions for building better connected and resilient communities.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A program that was supposed to be the answer to solving Jacksonville’s crime problem is no more.
Cure Violence, a program that was designed to go to people on the street and bring solutions to conflicts before they led to violence, has been defunded after more than four years of work, millions in investments and mixed reviews.

When Jacksonville began the program nearly five years ago, crime was increasing. The city contracted and paid millions to Cure Violence Global to train mentors, or “street counselors,” to work with youth, gangs and others to try to resolve differences.
At first, it seemed to make a difference . It was eventually expanded to three areas of Jacksonville: the Westside, Northside and Eastside.

But then the program fizzled out.
Funding has been increasing over the years — reaching $3.5 million last year — with parts divided between several groups running the program locally, like Potters House on the Westside and Noah’s Ark In east Jacksonville. But in the last budget, Cure Violence was only extended for a few months, and now its time in Jacksonville is over.
Noah’s Ark, a community group that aimed to address violence and homelessness, received some of that grant money to help run the program in Jacksonville. Nobody was there on Monday and News4JAX tried reaching the people who ran the program, but they didn’t respond.
Henry Stokes has been very vocal about the groups and churches that run these social programs and get millions to help, but he said that money never makes its way to the streets.
“It’s not nobody following up on the program, so when they get the money, to make sure they put the money in the right spot. So, now when they get this grant money they need to have a follow-up that makes sure that the people doing the right thing with the money,” Stokes said.
News4JAX did reach someone who ran the program for Potter’s House. They said they were told not to comment and the program was turned over to the city.
Charles Griggs, who is the Director of Community Initiatives for the mayor’s office, said the city is now looking at a long-term strategy to fight crime and that could involve violence intervention similar to the strategy used by Cure Violence.
