The MS Viktoria offers a high level of comfort, elegant ambience and spacious, tastefully furnished cabins. The ship is also described as modern. The full glazing of the restaurant and bar provides an excellent view of the passing river landscape. The spacious spa area with sauna, whirlpool, fitness equipment and relaxation area offers pure relaxation. The ship can comfortably accommodate up to 180 passengers.

MS Viktoria staterooms

All staterooms on board are stylishly and comfortably furnished outside staterooms, with a size of approx. 16 sqm. The beds next to each other can be separated on request. All staterooms have a bathroom with shower/WC, a hairdryer, individually adjustable air conditioning, a radio, a TV, a safe and a telephone. In the staterooms on the mid and upper deck, the floor-to-ceiling panorama windows can be opened to a French balcony. The windows on the main deck cannot be opened. Two-bed staterooms can be occupied by 3 people on request.

The atmosphere is cosy, luxurious and familiar, as on all nicko cruises ships, including on board the MS Viktoria. Whether you want to enjoy a quiet moment to immerse yourself in a good book or to attend a social event on board, on this ship everything will be taken care of. Various theme evenings or quiz shows will be offered and will not let boredom arise. The clothing on board is casual, for dinner more formal clothing is desired. Culinary delights await you in the beautiful panoramic restaurant, where all guests can dine comfortably in one table time. On the day of embarkation you can reserve your table in the restaurant for the duration of the entire cruise. The menu includes both international specialties and typical dishes of the countries along the route.

Entertainment, sports & relaxation

For your free time, the restaurant offers theme nights and music programs as well as books, board and card games. Quiet moments can be found on the spacious sundeck with deck chairs and seating areas. For relaxation, the spa area with sauna, whirlpool and relaxation room awaits you. If you would like to do some sports you can visit the gym on board. Interesting shore excursions complete the program on board.

The cruise operator offers optional bookable shore excursions, which are adapted to the respective length of stay in the port. Suitable for your cruise you can book a trip package that combines the highlights of each route into a single package. On board, however, you can also book only certain elements of the excursion packages, as long as there are seats available, and make your cruise even more individual. On many excursions, an audio system is available so that you can follow the explanations of your tour guide quite relaxed, without missing interesting highlights. The hub of the ship is the atrium’s sweeping staircase, where the staff on reception are always on hand to assist. Enjoy a quiet moment with a good book in the library, before making your way through to the dining room, where our friendly service team will be on hand to offer a range of international cuisine, alongside traditional dishes inspired by the destinations you will be visiting.

Located on the middle deck, at the fore of the ship, the spacious wellness area with sauna, whirlpool and fitness equipment, is perfect for rejuvenating the senses after a day of exploration ashore.

Our friendly service team will be on hand to offer a range of international cuisine, alongside traditional dishes inspired by the destinations you will be visiting.

Accommodation for a child is possible in a 3-bed-cabin (where available). Children up to and including 11 years of age are priced differently, please call our reservations team for a quote. Children must be accompanied by an adult over 18 years old and must be sharing the same cabin. Our river cruises are not generally suitable for children. There are no separate child-friendly entertainment programmes, childcare, toys, child seats or cribs offered for children on board. Children under 3 years of age are not allowed on board.

16m 2 - Outside

All accommodations on board MS Viktoria and have individually adjustable air conditioning, heating, shower/ WC, satellite TV with radio, hairdryer, fridge, safe and a telephone. Cabins are approx. 16 m² in size and beds are arranged as doubles, but can be separated on request. Cabins on the middle and upper decks have French Balcony-style doors, while cabins on the main deck have large, non-opening portholes, which still offer superb views. In some instances, two bed cabins can also be occupied by three people.

NOTE: MS Viktoria has stairs between all decks – no lifts are available.

Medical facilities.

A Doctor is present on board the nicko cruises ships on all 12,15 & 17-day Danube cruises to provide first aid in emergency situations. Doctors can also be accessed from ashore at short notice. Billing for the doctors’ services and if, applicable, medication that has been administered, is carried out on board.

Costs will very much depend on the service. Our prices are displayed on board, however, please be aware these can be quite expensive. If medical services are sort after from ashore, then costs will be subject to the local medical provider.

Internet Access

We include WI-FI costs in the price of your cruise. This will be applicable to one registered device.

We recommend wearing smart casual clothing for the evening and smarter attire for the Gala Dinner. More relaxed attire can be worn during the day for sightseeing and general relaxation around the ship. It is recommended to wear non-slip shoes on the outside decks.

Smoking Policy

Smoking is only permitted on the outside deck (and on most ships only in the designated smoking areas). On all our ships, all interior areas such as restaurants, parlours, cabins, corridors, etc. are non-smoking areas.

In addition, there are a variety of optional shore excursions which you can add to your sightseeing programme for an additional charge. These can be booked on board.

Our experienced Cruise Director is on hand to support you during your voyage. Guests can also enjoy evenings in the lounge with a cocktail and board games or a game of bingo. There is also a resident musician on-board.

Laundry Service

Due to their size, there are no laundry services available on our river ships.

Disabled Facilities

Unfortunately, our river ships are not suitable for wheelchair users. The ships are comfortable as possible, but there will of course be staircases, as well as narrow doors and corridors. The entry over the predominantly narrow gangways is not always at ground level; it can also happen that ships lie “in a pack” and you will board via the sun deck and across several other ships to access your Nicko ship. In general, none of our river cruise ships are equipped for disabled guests. If you require specialised help, you must travel with a companion. Our crew is of course on hand to help; however, please bear in mind that our employees are nor trained caregivers and are not permitted to carry out any nursing activities.

Today the tradition-rich Danube metropolis Vienna is on the program. From the pier you will pass the "New Vienna" with the Uno-City and the Danube Island. See imposing magnificent buildings such as the State Opera, the Burgtheater, the Hofburg, the Parliament, the City Hall and the Votivkirche during the trip along the famous Ringstrasse. During a guided tour afterwards, you will experience this charming city and its world-famous "Viennese Schmäh" at first hand. After a short free time, you will pass the Praterstern and return to your ship.

Budapest is certainly one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and bears the nickname "Queen of the Danube" not without reason. The Danube divides the Hungarian metropolis into the districts of Buda and Pest. You will first drive through the city center and enjoy the flair of the city. Enjoy a beautiful view of the Buda Castle, Fishermen's Bastion and Matthias Church, which still remind of the glory of past times. Also a small visit to the famous Budapest market hall may not be missing, of course.

Budapest city tour / walking tour

Bratislava is located in the fertile Danube plain south of the Small Carpathians in the immediate vicinity of the borders with Austria and Hungary. The Slovakian capital could be aptly described as "small but nice". The old town has been magnificently renovated with great attention to detail. During your sightseeing tour of Bratislava, you will first drive through the embassy district to the castle (Hrad), which towers high above the city and is considered the city's landmark. There you will make a photo stop and enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the city. Here you will also get more detailed information about the eventful history of the castle, which was the residence of numerous Hungarian kings for a long time before Maria Theresa settled there and the castle experienced its heyday. Afterwards, you will continue to the Old Town and begin the walking tour. Walking together through the Old Town of Bratislava, you will see the Redoubt, the National Theater, the City Hall and some Baroque palaces and the city gates that testify to the k.u.k. Monarchy. Among other things, you will also meet the most famous man of Bratislava, Gullimann Cumil.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
