The Best London

“When a man is tired of London he is tired of life. For there is in London all that life can afford.”

It’s difficult to disagree with Dr Johnson’s immortal assessment of the endlessly cosmopolitan English capital, and there’s something for everyone in the teeming metropolis on the Thames.

From a range of world-class museums to beautiful architecture, leafy parks, a mouthwatering food culture and fascinating historical sights, London easily takes its place at the top table of world cities. On our  London tours  we’ll show you the best of what the city has to offer, with skip-the-line tickets and expert guide s ensuring that you won’t miss a thing.

Art lovers will relish the opportunity to delve into some of the world’s greatest galleries on a trip to London : admire Renaissance masterpieces on a tour of the National Gallery , getting up close and personal with iconic artworks from the brushes of Raphael, Leonardo, Michelangelo and many more. Then get your contemporary groove on at the Tate Modern, where the brightest lights of modernism take centre stage.

Take a whirlwind journey through world culture at the British Museum , where priceless artefacts like the Parthenon marbles and the Lewis chessmen are just the beginning, or get inside the mind of one of England’s greatest architects at the eccentric Sir John Soane Museum .

London is a city made for exploring on foot, and its historic centre offers an endless array of charms. Stop off at vibrant Covent Garden or bustling Leicester square, and take a stroll through Piccadilly Circus to experience London at its most characterful.

See the city through the eyes of a local in happening Soho, and gaze on the well-heeled Georgian homes and garden squares of Bloomsbury.

History buffs will find plenty to occupy them, too. Get to grips with the fascinating story of the English capital at the Tower of London , and be spellbound by dramatic tales of intrigue and bloody deeds as we follow in the footsteps of the medieval English kings who reigned from the imposing White Tower. Wander through leafy St. James’ park and see how the other half lives at Buckingham palace, where the Queen’s crack troops guard the current royal residence in rituals that have remained unchanged for centuries.

But there’s a lot more to London’s cultural riches than its museums. Enjoy incredible views across the Thames and the Houses of Parliament from Westminster Bridge, and listen out for the chiming bells of iconic Big Ben from its riverside perch. The Gothic splendour of Westminster Abbey, meanwhile, will leave you spellbound. Beneath its soaring vaults, generations of English royals have been crowned, married and mourned. On our Westminster Abbey tour , you’ll take part in this living history.

Last but not least, for all you food lovers out there London has one of the world’s most vibrant street-food scenes: a visit to Borough Market is an unforgettable treat for the senses, where tasty morsels of international cuisine rub shoulders with local classics in the atmospheric surroundings of one of Europe’s largest covered markets.

If fine dining is more your scene, then you’re in the right place: London boasts an array of top class eateries and Michelin-starred restaurants. The city’s panoply of charming pubs meanwhile run the gamut from historic Victorian ale houses to riverside boozers, perfect haunts for whiling away a lazy summer afternoon.

6. Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, and Bath Day Trip from London

The long walk at wonder castle is a definite on London tours

Round-trip Transportation from London

Make your day trip to Stonehenge easier by leaving the driving, transportation, and ticketing to a trusted guide. It’s a 2.5-hour drive out to Stonehenge, and if you’re not familiar with driving on the left side of the road, it can make for a stressful experience. Instead, when you book with us, you’ll feel comfortable as you sit back and let your driver do the work.

Windsor Castle

First, head to Windsor Castle, the former Queen’s favorite residence. Located just an hour outside of London, this castle and its grounds are a popular place to visit. If you’re a fan of the royals, it’s easily one of the best London tours to take.

While no guides are allowed inside the castle, you’ll be prepared with a narrative from your driver-guide ahead of time and your skip-the-line tickets. There are 13,000 acres here, and you’ll be free to explore the Grand Apartments, Queen Mary’s Doll House, and more.

Next, you’ll head over to Stonehenge, which is possibly Britain’s most famous ancient ruins. This 4,000-year-old structure is likely of Druid origin and fascinates visitors who marvel at its construction. You’ll have plenty of time to walk up to these mysterious stones and take pictures. Depending on the time of year, you might even have a chance to purchase some local strawberries to enjoy while you’re here!

Your final stop is at Bath, which is another city with deep roots from the Roman Empire. In fact, those Roman baths here are what gave this town its name, despite their original use by the Celts too. You’ll need to arrange your own tickets here, but if you’re not as interested in Roman baths, you might be tempted by the Jane Austen Museum.

This time in Bath is free for you to explore as you like after hearing all about it on your drive there. Be sure to check out any of the local restaurants your driver recommends!

  • London’s iconic sites outside of the city
  • Skip-the-line tickets to Windsor Castle
  • Time to explore Stonehenge
  • Lunch in Bath (on your own)
  • Options to visit the Roman Baths or Jane Austen Museum

7. Exclusive Meet & Greet Tour with the Tower of London Beefeaters

Two men meet and great with a Beefeater on this London Tour

Private Meeting with a Beefeater

It doesn’t get more exclusive than a private 15 minutes with a Yeoman Warder (also known as a Beefeater). While these guards have a serious 20+ years of military career behind them, there’s nothing they love more than entertaining visitors with stories at the Tower in between their official duties. You can’t beat that!

Then you get to have your own guided tour of the rest of the Tower. From the Bloody Tower to St. Thomas’ Tower, Traitors Gate, and the White Tower, there’s more to explore than you can imagine. That’s why your guide is here to help you navigate and understand it all.

You’ll also get entry to the crown jewels that have wowed millions of visitors with their lavish decadence. Make sure to keep an eye out for the piece your guide tells you is the oldest in the entire collection—dating back to the early 1600s!

  • Private meet & greet with a Beefeater

8. Early Access Stonehenge Morning Tour from London with Inner Circle

via tours london

Even if you’re an early bird, you might not want to navigate unfamiliar roads in the wee hours of the morning. That’s why you’ll appreciate leaving those details to a confident, local driver-guide. Catch an extra hour or two of sleep while you are safely transported to Stonehenge in the pre-dawn hours.

Stonehenge Sunrise

Watching the sunrise is always a magical moment. Make it even more memorable by seeing Stonehenge in that early morning light! These ancient stones are captivating any time of the day, but with this early morning tour, you get special access to Stonehenge before the general public. It’s a truly special experience that most don’t get to have.

Salisbury Cathedral and Magna Carta

A trip to Salisbury is up next, and you’re not too far away. This is the town where you’ll find the largest spire in the UK at the Salisbury Cathedral (Cathedral of St. Mary). Your guide will also tell you how to find an original copy of the Magna Carta, long regarded as the first accepted standard for human rights. You’ll have free time to explore this town and enjoy a break for lunch before heading back to London in the late afternoon.

  • Early access to Stonehenge before the public
  • Entry to Salisbury Cathedral
  • Free time to see Magna Carta and explore Salisbury

From Lambeth Bridge to Southwark, see where Diagon Alley was filmed and the location for the Ministry of Magic (and much more).

Warner Brothers Studio

This is where booking a guide really comes in handy for a Harry Potter day tour. You can hop in a vehicle and let your guide easily take you to the famous Warner Brothers Studio outside of the city. Make your Harry Potter tour in London easy by leaving the details to us so you can just enjoy a few hours exploring the Harry Potter sets and gift shop here.

10. After Hours Stonehenge Inner Circle Tour from London

best london tours

If you’re not an early bird but more of a night owl, then a sunset trip to Stonehenge is ideal. You’ll leave mid-morning with a small group on this full-day tour of some of England’s most ancient sites near London. And after a long day, you can relax while your trusted driver takes care of the driving.

Silbury Hill and West Kennet

England has its own mysterious manmade mound that is roughly the size of an Egyptian pyramid. You’ll find it at Silbury Hill, where your guide will take you first thing. Plus, you’ll stop at West Kennet Long Barrow to see an ancient burial ground that probably dates back to the Neolithic period (about 5,000 years ago!). These areas have so much mystery that it’s essential to go with a guide who can help you understand the significance of what you’re seeing.

Did you know there are mysterious circles of stones in Avebury too? They’re not quite as impressive as Stonehenge, but there are still some great mysteries to see here. Avebury is a charming town with a haunted pub. Your guide will definitely tell you all about it and recommend you eat a late lunch there too.

After your free time in Avebury, your driver-guide will transport you to the highlight of this tour: Stonehenge. What’s extra special about this tour is that your tickets give you guided access to the Inner Circle of Stonehenge for an hour after the public has already left. It’s the perfect way to enjoy this monolith in solitude at the end of the day. Then you’ll head back to London and let your driver do the hard work.

  • Visits to see Silbury Hill and West Kennet
  • Free time in Avebury with lunch on your own
  • Haunted pub tales
  • Entry to Stonehenge after the public leaves

My wife and i booked a stone henge tour with viator. They sent us a text confirming our reservation. It told us to go to Evan Evans tours to catch our bus to Stonehenge. When we arrived Evan Evans tours told us we were at the wrong location. Do not book your tour with viator. Terrible company with poor communication.

If I could, I would give Viator's customer service zero stars. We booked two tours for two separate days through them for a London visit, but were double charged for one of the tours. After spending more than an hour dealing with customer service, there is still no resolution. This is clearly an administrative error and seems like a simple resolution, however, it was made a complicated process by the customer support team of Naomi and Miki. After explaining that we were double charged, they placed blame on us that we had double booked. We shared the only confirmation emails we received and clearly did not book two tours for the same day going to the same place. We had to explain the situation several times and there was zero understanding or compassion. The supervisor did nothing to help and we are still fighting this issue. I will never book another tour through Viator and encourage others to never through the either. The tour operators were great and I would book directly than through this company with horrific customer support.

Charged my card and we never received tickets. Refused to refund. Do not use this company. .

I purchased a private small party guided tour of the Tower of London 21/9/2023. I cannot make any comments about the guide, as we were never able to meet up with him. Our brief phone conversation left me very confused. The instructions were to meet at the sundial near the moat. We could not locate said sundial and asked several employees where to find this - all said they never heard of a sundial near the moat. Finally a worker at the castle entrance said there was a sundial back across the street near the tube station. As we were walking back and now 15 minutes late from our meet time, I was texting / chat communication with service personnel from Viator, who could not bring any further help, other than to process a refund - WHICH I WAS TOLD WOULD LIKELY BE DENIED AS I WAS NOW CANCELING WITHIN THE 24 HOUR PERIOD OF THE TOUR THAT THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE. I subsequently bought 4 tickets for general admission for my party and entered the castle, still in communication with Viator arguing about the 24 hour rule, when the service personnel suggested I call directly to Viator. I responded to give me the number right now, which was surprisingly the tour guide's personal cell. I explained the situation and the response was "he used my tickets in the hope that I would go to the front of the queue give them my name, enter the castle and catch up the tour" that I would not have known what direction they headed. So, if I was a psychic, I could have had the tour experience I paid for. The tour guide agreed and said he would promptly refund the cost of the tour - which he did - but could not refund the tickets, as he had already scanned them, again hoping I would somehow figure out how to get in, where he was and catch him up. I have asked Viator to refund the tickets I paid for twice, but there has been no response. This has been my second negative experience using Viator (Stonehenge, Windsor, Bath) and I will not use this service again.

They don't let you know what your company they are booking you with ahead of time. Most of the time they companies are terrible. We did 6 day tours on our Ireland, Scotland and London trip. 4 of them were super bad. Never again. It's better to research each location and take the extra time. We had Evan Evans in London cancel of tour leas then 24 hours before it was to occur. Unprofessional. Then they said it would take 5-7 business days for a full refund. Why do I have to wait? Terrible I will never use again.

Photo of Luis S.

This company misleads you and the paper they give you as a confirmation does not state the truth. this is a company that uses foreign companies that answer their complaint line that you can't understand and hang up on you as well as fees you false information. This company buys their tickets from another 3rd party who buys their tickets from the location you want to attend. when that company does not show up to give you the entrance tickets they lie and say they were there and STEAL your money as it happened in my case. DO NOT USE them they misrepresent everything and then don't back their guarantee as they said they would. i for one will take them to small claims as i had issues with 6 of the 7 tours i booked in Paris and London

Unfortunately I can only rate viator as terrible. Our trip was changed for a cheaper alternative last minute while we were in a foreign country with very little WiFi. The trip was not as described and when we tried to get a partial refund, our claim was shut down very quickly. They claimed we had received everything we had paid for, we were lacking 3 meals, 1 nights stay, a 5 star cruise and a hot air balloon. Viator did not ask for any evidence. Viator was very unhelpful. During the trip we fully blamed the tour, and did not blame viator themselves. But viator have shown an overwhelming of terribly customer service.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS.pay 1200 to.go niagra falls from newyork, wait for pickup from hotel on time stated even told us drivers name by 2 txt and email.driver doesnt showup so missed our flight, finally get through at 9 to be told they dont offer pickup,oh really so whats the 2 txts and email about.still teying get refund.awful company ,u should be ashamed

Photo of Kim G.

Second experience with viator. Our driver was great BUT as soon as got in the car hired to take us from airport to train station " the boss" called our driver and said we owed extra $$$ on top of a huge fee we had already paid. Said it was bc driver had to wait. However, our flight was early!!! Several years ago in Rome we booked a tour and they tripled the fee they advertised
