I love Australia, and feel the only way to see it properly is by coach, it enables one to get up close to the real Australia and appreciate the variety this country has to offer.

I mentioned a tour about a year ago to North Qld, Port Douglas, Lava Tubes, Gemfields Emerald and you listened and we are booked for this tour. Keep seeking these tours.

- Ted & Freda S.

3 Day Melbourne to Adelaide Overland (One Way)

I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The small numbers meant we got to know each other. Darren set a tone of friendliness and communication so very quickly we became a group, helped by his willingness to participate in all we did. It was very efficiently organized - pick-up on time, food provided where needed, suggested eateries when required. I loved our visits to natural environments - the rain forest - the Ocean Rd beaches - the climb up the Pinnacles at Hall's Gap - tough for a 75 year old but manageable. It will remain one of my best experiences. Thank you

Nellie was an amazing tour guide and I had the best time ever! Great trip! The only thing I would Recommend is booking restaurants with more of a vegetarian variety but everything was great! My favourite part was swimming the Great Barrier Reef I was nervous but Nellie took me out and showed me and stayed with me until I was comfortable! Thank you for such a great experience!

I went "solo", paid the single supplement, and felt the trip was very worth it The guide and bus driver were wonderful. They gave us detailed information about the raw natural beauty of the territory, as well as the colorful history of the locals. The cities we visited were beautiful, with lots of stained glass (my favorite) as well as ornate iron decorating balconies, windows, and ceilings. My fellow travelers were delightful.

I did not encounter any exciting highlights from the day we leave Sydney to Melbourne. The rest of the tourist told me that the tour highlights would start on the 6th-7th day of the 11-12 days of the entire tour. I only got 5 days tour. ATKing/Trafalgar did not show up nor call the hotel that they could not provide me the service back to the airport on my last day as scheduled. I waited at the lobby and when I call them they told me to get a taxi instead. If they already planted not to show up that morning which the tour guide anticipated), at least call or let the customer know the night before_ this way we don't have to wake up so early and wait for 30-45 minutes at the hotel lobby. Now after my vacation, I still have to file claim for the taxi.. this is hustle. And there is no instructions how to file the claim.

Sometimes a tour is made with the personalities of the group. Well, we had the best. Laughs, teasing, stories, caring and helping each other. Our leader,Carolyn, and driver, Tom, were wonderful. There were a few changes and a few uncertainties...handled by Carolyn so smoothly we hardly noticed. She is a great story teller with a very interesting life and 4,000 cousins. The people we met were so cheerful, and it makes a big difference. The places we went, the history we learned, the adventures we had ...so much in a short time, but not over done. I want to go back.

Australia Coach / Bus Tour Reviews

It's an adventure, not a holiday Mar 2024 • Solo I wanted to see some of the west coast of Australia, which isn't as easy as the East Coast, especially if you don't have your own form of transport. This trip was perfect for that! There were about 22 of us in total, all varying ages, and some solo or with a friend or two, aswell as a wide range of nationalities. We were able to see some beautiful places, helping us to appreciate the natural world. We saw wild kangaroos, wild dolphins, turtles, and more if you chose to do an excursion. Everything was well organised, and it helps that the job to ensure it was organised was our leader, Geoff. He was able to ensure the smooth running of the tour, while we focussed on the experiences. Geoff told us about some of his favourite spots, enlightened us with his own stories and experiences, and took us to places we wouldn't have known about otherwise. Breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are included. This is mainly cereals or toast for breakfast, wraps for lunch, and a mixture of meals in the evenings. Everyone gets stuck in to set up, prepare, cook, and clean up afterwards. As Australia is a big country, there were long bus journeys, unfortunately, I feel the bus could have been more updated. It was tight between the seats, and I am only 5 foot 2. The only place for our legs was straight down, there was no room to put them underneath the seat in front of us, to stretch them out a little, as the seats have low backs. We also had a day bag with us on the bus, and this had to go by our feet as there was no where else to put it, such as over head compartments, or under the seats due to how little space there was. I felt bad for those who were taller. Our large bags were in a trailer attached to the bus, which I thought was a good idea. There were also no curtains or blinds on the windows. I was sat on the left side of the bus, and it got very hot due to the sun being that side. I put my hat and sunglasses on due to how bright it was, though I was then not able to feel the aircon as it was right above my head and if I had my hat on, I couldn't feel the air, so became quite hot. Due to being on the road for long periods of time, I feel these issues on the bus need to be looked at a bit more. We stopped for plenty of toilet/snack breaks at road houses/supermarkets. The accommodation was good for me, I chose the shared hostel accommodation. We didn't spend much time in the rooms. I was first concerned we may be sharing rooms with others outside of the tour although that was not the case. We shared with those on the tour, and the dorms were mixed. I think those with private rooms had a few reservations. It would have been nice to have been able to spend time at some of the places where we had our accommodation such as when we visited Monkey Mia, or Geraldton. We mainly got everywhere in the evenings, and left early morning. The trip is fast paced, and a full day at one, or both of these would have been great. I know this would add cost, and make the tour longer, but they seemed like lovely places to explore and almost everyone said they would have liked to have stayed at Monkey Mia for atleast a day. I personally loved the trip and seeing the different areas of Western Australia. It is not an area I heard too much about and I am glad I decided to do the tour. I would like to once again thank, Geoff for his fantastic work ethic, and showing us some wonderful scenery/wildlife in Western Australia. It was clear that he loves his job. I feel we all had a magical night on the beach while stargazing and seeing baby turtles. A night to remember! If you go to do this trip, make sure to take a fly net for your head. There are lots of them!
I enjoyed the experience, overall it was the tours fault the ITN changed due to fires, overall it was good,
Everything was Excelent

Veteran winger Kyle Feldt grabbed a slice of Cowboys history with his 131st career try as North Queensland downed the Titans 35-22 at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Sunday.

The man who scored the Cowboys' most famous try in the 2015 grand final surpassed Matt Bowen's record of 130 tries with a runaway intercept in the 69th minute.

After both sides made a bright start in attack it was the Titans who cracked first, leaving space on their left edge for Zac Laybutt to cross in the sixth minute. Val Holmes converted for a 6-0 lead.

Cowboys halfback Chad Townsend then spilled the kick-off but the home side went for a short dropout and got the ball back after Harley Smith-Shields put it down.

The Cowboys added a second try in the 15th minute when Tom Dearden went left to Scott Drinkwater and then Holmes who tapped the ball on superbly for Murray Taulagi to score.

Zac Laybutt Try

Titans fullback Jayden Campbell sent the kick-off sailing over the dead ball line to hand the Cowboys another opportunity but a Dearden grubber was cleaned up by Tanah Boyd and the danger was averted.

With 16 minutes left in the half the Cowboys mounted more pressure an earned a repeat set from a grubber but a mistake by Griffin Neame let the Titans off the hook.

A mistake by Fifita with eight minutes left in the half proved a hammer blow for the Titans as Drinkwater strolled over from close range and the score was out to 16-0.

Murray Taulagi Try

The Titans looked to have opened their account in the 40th minute when Harley Smith-Shields crossed off a Brian Kelly grubber but replays showed Jayden Campbell had stopped in the line and obstructed the defence.

The Titans hit back through milestone man Kelly in the 46th minute but a long range break by Taulagi and Holmes put the Cowboys in position for Drinkwater to grab a second and the lead was out to 18.

Cowboys hooker Reece Robson added his name to the score sheet in the 54th minute when Drinkwater turned provider before AJ Brimson laid on a try for Campbell and the Titans had pulled it back to 28-10.

The Cowboys lost Townsend to the sin bin with 20 minutes to play after Campbell was bent over awkwardly in a tackle and the bunker deemed it a hip drop.

With the Cowboys down to 12 men the Titans struck twice in the space of three minutes through Klese Haas and then Beau Fermor, the second of those featuring brilliant work by Fifita who delivered the final pass.

Ahead 28-22 and with the Titans coming at them it was Feldt who steadied the ship for the Cowboys with a 45-metre intercept try that made him the club's greatest ever tryscorer.

Back from the bin it was Townsend who iced the win for the Cowboys with a field goal to make it 35-22.

Play of the Game

Kyle Feldt grabbed a slice of Cowboys history with his 131st career try, surpassing Matt Bowen as the club's greatest ever tryscorer. Feldt pounced on an AJ Brimson pass in the 69th minute and raced 45 metres to etch his name in the record books.

Kyle Feldt breaks Bowen's Cowboys try-scoring record

What They Said

"The game turned on its head with the sin binning [of Chad Townsend] and we were on the back foot and Feldty comes up with a big play and got us back out to a two-try lead and we were able to go on with it. I thought the tackle [by Chad] was pretty innocuous to be fair. I thought he was already on the ground so it wasn't a proper hip drop, the kid got up and played on, no dramas. I'm not sure around it but I think the sin binning was harsh. Playing with 12 men in 32 degrees is not an easy thing to do and I have to give our lads credit for hanging in there and getting the job done." - Cowboys coach Todd Payten

Cowboys: Round 5

"We came here expecting a tough game, I rate the Cowboys, they've tot some strike about them. Our focus has been all about reducing our negative play as much as we possibly can but I thought we again allowed them access to field position too easily and setting them up. Given the way they had dominated field position we didn't think 16-0 at half-time wasn't impossible for us to chase and we competed pretty well with the ball in the second half but we couldn't pull the trigger well enough to make it a contest." - Titans coach Des Hasler

UConn Men's Basketball Faces Travel Issues En Route to Final Four in Phoenix

  • Author: Tom Dierberger

In this story:

The UConn men's basketball team punched its ticket to the Final Four without much trouble, handily defeating Stetson, Northwestern, San Diego State and Illinois to win the East Region.

Actually traveling to the Final Four in Phoenix, however, posed a challenge for coach Dan Hurley and the Huskies.

CBS Sports' Matt Norlander reported Wednesday the Huskies' original flight to Phoenix was scheduled to leave Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET, but their plane arriving from Kansas City had logistical and mechanical issues that forced a delay.

Per Norlander, the crew flying the plane from Kansas City would be over their FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) hours and can't fly the team to Arizona. UConn would have to wait until 10 a.m. ET on Thursday to fly on that plane.

ESPN's Pete Thamel reported later Wednesday that the Huskies found a solution—a flight expected to leave the East Coast around 11:30 p.m. ET Wednesday. UConn will arrive in Phoenix around 2 a.m. ET Thursday.

Was told that UConn’s men’s team appears to have a solution to its travel woes getting to Arizona. A flight is expected to leave around 11:30 tonight. They’ll get in around 2 a.m. As @MattNorlander noted, there’s been mechanical/crew issues for the Huskies. — Pete Thamel (@PeteThamel) April 4, 2024

While the Huskies waited in limbo for an available flight, the other three Final Four teams—Alabama, Purdue and NC State—already arrived in Phoenix.

UConn, the tournament's No. 1 overall seed, is set to face No. 4 seed Alabama in the national semifinals on Saturday at State Farm Stadium.

Washington State hires EWU coach David Riley as next head coach, school announces

PULLMAN – Washington State’s next head basketball coach won’t have to travel far to his new home.

WSU is hiring Eastern Washington men’s basketball coach David Riley, the school announced Tuesday, ending an eight-day coaching search in the wake of former coach Kyle Smith’s departure for Stanford last week.

“We are thrilled to have David Riley leading our men’s basketball program as we look to build on this season’s success,” WSU interim AD Anne McCoy said via release. “Throughout the process, Dave’s coaching acumen was evident as was his ability to create a winning culture. In just three seasons, he has emphasized player development through a fast-paced, high powered offense that allows his student-athletes to play free and confidently.”

Riley signed a six-year deal, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander.

Riley, 35, was born in Seattle and played at Division III Whitworth . In three seasons as head coach at EWU, Riley led the Eagles to an overall record of 62-38 (42-14 Big Sky) with two conference regular-season titles and two postseason appearances, his first season in The Basketball Classic and his second in the NIT.

The Big Sky Coach of the Year in 2023 and 2024, Riley’s EWU teams own two wins over WSU: in the first round of last season’s NIT and in the 2021-22 regular season, both in Pullman. He has shown he can beat and hang with power conference opponents, beating California in 2022 and taking a late lead on Washington a few months ago in Seattle.

The fourth-youngest Division I head coach last season, Riley doesn’t have much head coaching experience. He has spent his entire coaching career at EWU, where he worked as director of basketball operations in 2011-2014 before becoming an assistant coach from 2014 to 2021.

Riley’s Eagles teams have disappointed in March, however. As the Big Sky Tournament’s top seed each of the past two years, they dropped their first game in both of those tournaments.

“I am incredibly grateful to President Schulz, Interim Athletic Director Anne McCoy and the athletic department leadership team for allowing me the opportunity to lead the men’s basketball program,” Riley said via release. “WSU is a dream job and embodies everything that college athletics is about.”

Riley is likely WSU’s second choice. On Monday, WSU offered the job to Montana State head coach Matt Logie, according to reports, but Logie turned down the offer to stay at MSU, which responded with an extension with a pay bump.

The Cougars also went away from associate head coach Jim Shaw, who interviewed for the position but was informed he was out of the running last week, multiple sources confirmed to The Spokesman-Review. Over the weekend, in a statement to The S-R, Shaw said he was deciding between following Smith to Stanford or accepting another offer.

Riley may have to work to reconstruct the Washington State roster. In the days after Smith’s departure, 10 Cougars have entered the transfer portal, including guard Myles Rice, senior wing Andrej Jakimovski, junior center Oscar Cluff and true freshman center Rueben Chinyelu, all of whom started last season. Six reserves have also hit the portal.

All 10 retain the option to return to WSU.

As of Tuesday, WSU still has two key pieces in junior wing Jaylen Wells and true freshman guard Isaiah Watts, both of whom played important roles last season. Watts came on strongly toward the end of the season, which ended in the Cougs’ first NCAA Tournament berth in 16 years.

Last season, EWU guard LeJuan Watts won Big Sky Freshman of the Year honors, and junior wing Cedric Coward landed on the all-conference first team. Junior forward Ethan Price and junior wing Casey Jones earned second-team honors, and Jones also landed on the all-defensive team.

Last season, EWU played one of the country’s toughest nonconference schedules, coming in 18th nationally, according to KenPom. That’s one reason EWU ranked low nationally in some metrics, such as 262nd in defensive efficiency and No. 336 in 3-point defense, allowing a mark of 36.9%.

But EWU scored exceptionally well, coming in fourth nationally with an effective field-goal percentage of 57.2%. The Eagles also made 58.7% of their shots inside the arc, sixth nationally. Coward, who started his career at Division III Willamette, ranked 14th nationally in true shooting at 66.2%.

Riley’s father Ed is an anesthesiologist at Stanford. His uncle Mike Riley is the former head football coach at Oregon State and Nebraska.

South-east Queensland heads into a wet weekend as state's west floods

Weekend storms will bring a flood risk for southern Queensland, where rivers, creeks and catchments could "respond rapidly" to even moderate rainfall.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is expecting 10 to 20 millimetres of rain for the Brisbane region Saturday, with the possibility of up to 40 millimetres on Sunday.

Heavier falls are likely south of Brisbane, at Logan, on the Gold Coast and Scenic Rim, with downpours also likely on the Darling Downs, and eastern Maranoa and Warrego.

Meanwhile,  Charleville and nearby towns are expected to be isolated for days after the levee was shut on Friday , shortly before the Warrego River was due to peak.

The Warrego River on the town's outskirts continued to rise overnight, reaching 6.7 metres this morning.

Rain totals of up to 130 millimetres were recorded across the Warrego catchment in the 48 hours to 10am Saturday, but the bureau doesn't expect any more significant falls.

A road blocked by a ROAD CLOSED sign. Further away, water leaks under a wall to make a big puddle.

Local authorities said the levee has held strong overnight.

"It's doing its job, well," said far west State Emergency Service area controller John Wallace.

"The barrier means some members of the local community are cut off from the town, but they have emergency services crews with them and a flood boat if they need to be transported into town urgently."

The State Emergency Service is providing help to members of the community in flood-impacted areas between Charleville and Augathella to the north.

"We've had a couple of people stranded … we've been talking to those people overnight basically every three hours just to say g'day and make sure they're in a good place and they're not in need of help," Mr Wallace said.

A large expnase of water covers a road on a still morning. mist and trees reflect off the water.

Murweh Shire Council Mayor Shaun Radnedge said community members on the wrong side of Charleville's flood levee could be cut off from town for days.

"Once that water goes over the bridge, unfortunately Main Roads policy is that when it goes down you can't just open that bridge," he said .

"It has got to be inspected to make sure it's safe to travel on, so we just need those people prepared so that they can see a couple of days out."

Senior meteorologist Harry Clarke said there is a risk of flooding as water travels down the the Warrego.

"Over the coming days, communities downstream from Charleville can expect to see major flooding as those river levels rise," he said.

a farmer in a red shirt and akubra standing on a bridge above a flooded river

Bean Smith lives at Cunnamulla, about 150 kilometres south of Charleville.

He expects it'll be a few days yet before the water reaches them.

"We've got a good gauging system now," he said.

"You get an idea three or four days earlier so people are ready for it. We won't have any problems at all."

A mass of brown water covering a road. Shot from above, trees poke up. In the distance is a town.

'Reconsider your travel'

On Friday, Queensland Police Deputy Commissioner Shane Chelepy said there had already been "significant" crashes on the state's roads.

"If you are out and about, if you don't need to be on the roadways in this period, please reconsider your travel," he said.

Meanwhile Queensland Emergency Fire and Rescue Service (QFES) warned weather conditions into the weekend would be "ad hoc".

"We're asking people to remain vigilant. With the current weather conditions, flash flooding can occur in minutes — not hours or days," Brian Cox from QFES said.

Heavy rainfall will drench parts of Queensland and New South Wales this weekend, with motorists urged to stay off roads.

Laura Boekel, senior meteorologist at the Bureau of Meteorology, said a trough is affecting both Queensland and New South Wales, producing a significant amount of rainfall across the two states.

“The atmosphere has a lot of moisture in it at the moment and the result of that is we’re seeing these storms producing quite a lot of rainfall,” she said.

Major flooding was affecting parts of Sydney on Friday afternoon, with drivers warned to avoid non-essential travel.

A severe weather warning is in place along the NSW coast from Morisset, south of Newcastle in the Hunter, to Bega on the South Coast and extending west to the Central and Southern Tablelands past Oberon and Goulburn. Severe thunderstorms are possible from the Queensland border south to Wollongong and west to Griffith and Cobar.

Sydney faced its highest daily rainfall in two years, recording 111mm of rain in 24 hours and was on track to surpass its average total rainfall for April before the weekend.

The city is forecast to experience falls of between 10mm and 50mm on Saturday, according to the BoM, with rain easing on Sunday.

Warragamba Dam – Sydney’s main reservoir – was 96.3% full and likely to spill on Monday, the chief executive of Water NSW, Andrew George, warned. “We require about 90mm of rain to fill Warragamba Dam … we’re expecting 100mm to 150mm,” he said.

NSW weather: authorities warn of heavy rain, floods and damaging winds across state – video

The ongoing intense downpours would drive “dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding” from Friday evening, the SES warned.

Intense rainfall will continue over the weekend in parts of south and south-east Queensland, Boekel said.

“For parts of the southern and southeastern interior, widespread showers and thunderstorms will continue today and into tomorrow,” she said.

“Localised heavy falls could occur over the weekend and the area where we’re likely to see the most risk is the area south of Brisbane [on] Logan, Gold Coast and the Scenic Rim areas.”

A major flood warning is current for Charleville’s Warrego River in the state’s south west. River levels are expected to rise above moderate levels on Friday evening after several days of heavy thunderstorms.

A flood watch alert is in place for the Macintyre, Weir, Moonie and Balonne rivers.

Rainfall is expected to ease later in the weekend and next week, Boekel said.

Queensland police deputy commissioner, Shane Chelepy, asked motorists to reconsider their need to travel this weekend.

“We’ve seen some significant accidents on our roads today in the wet weather,” Chelepy said. “Please, if it’s flooded, don’t drive in it.”

Chelepy said emergency services were expecting a peak of 6.7 metres at Charleville.

He said levee gates, with a capacity of about 7.9m would be put in place on Friday afternoon.

“[This] will protect the town and we’re not expecting the flood waters to exceed that but … the disaster management groups very active in that area,” he said.

The SES has received 59 calls for assistance across the state, according to acting commissioner at the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service, Brian Cox.

“What we’re asking people to do is to remain vigilant. With the current weather conditions, flash flooding can occur in hours, not days,” Cox said.

“The next 24 or 48 hours is going to be important … There will be short bursts of water in already water affected areas that can impact you, your family and your friends.”

In NSW, the SES undertook seven flood rescues overnight and responded to more than 550 incidents across the state in the past 24 hours.

Nine schools across NSW were shut down and 92 flights were cancelled or delayed at Sydney Airport.

Train services face major delays because of damaged equipment at Redfern station in inner Sydney.

Power was also cut to a major city-centre court complex after the rain affected local electricity infrastructure.

UConn's Dan Hurley 'spiraled' amid travel chaos but 'lucky to be here'

GLENDALE, Arizona -- After having some time -- and a couple hours of sleep -- to reflect on UConn 's travel issues, coach Dan Hurley said Thursday that the Huskies are "past it" and "lucky to be here."

UConn didn't arrive in Phoenix until 3:15 a.m. local time Thursday -- hours after it was originally expected to land -- after mechanical issues and flight delays.

"It was nice," Hurley joked Thursday. "A lot of thoughts because I've had a lot of time to think in just a stationary situation. I think what goes through your mind once you're done kind of complaining and cursing and muttering, you just start saying to yourself, 'You don't deserve to show such entitlement. Such an honor to get a chance -- once-in-a-lifetime experience -- to play in a Final Four, coach in a Final Four.' Once that edge wore off, [it was, 'We're] lucky to be here.' We're lucky to get an opportunity to come play in the Final Four.

"Who doesn't deal with problems with the airlines? ... But it sucked."

The flight was originally scheduled to take off from Bradley International Airport at about 6 p.m. Wednesday, but it was delayed to 11:30 p.m. because of mechanical issues. Hurley posted on X around 1 a.m. ET that the plane had not yet taken off.

The NCAA announced around 3:25 a.m. local time that UConn had safely landed, saying the additional delay was due to weather in Connecticut.

"I ruminated a lot. I spiraled. I had my head in my hands a lot," Hurley said. "It was a real mindful exercise from 11:30 to like 1:45 on the tarmac. It was therapeutic to watch the de-icing on the window."

Hurley said they adjusted their schedule upon arrival. The players slept in later than usual and studied film at the hotel, but they made it to State Farm Stadium to shoot to get used to the bigger setting.

"I mean, listen, these guys were getting in a van driving 14 hours to the Peach Jam, playing two hours later," Hurley said, referencing Nike's signature grassroots basketball event. "There's no excuses. I mean, s---, I was driving a mini cheese bus to prep school games not too long ago. We're in the Final Four here man, with a chance to advance, to repeat as national champions, make history. We're way past that s---."

UConn faces Alabama on Saturday in the second of two national semifinal contests. The Huskies are aiming to become the first back-to-back national champions since the Florida Gators in 2006 and 2007.

As for his own rest and recovery, Hurley said he slept two hours on the plane and two hours at the hotel.

"That's why God made caffeine."
