The Farewell Tour: Live from Atlanta

View all past concerts

Issues is a band from Atlanta, Georgia, US strongly associated with the metalcore genre; however, they have stepped outside the confine of metal and have dabbled in contemporary pop music as well as R&B. The band is an offshoot of frontman Tyler Carter’s former band Woe Is Me.

Though Issues coincides with the existence and contains several members of Woe Is Me it is not necessarily a side project. Carter formed Issues after leaving Woe Is Me and thereafter dedicated his time and attention solely on Issues. Apart from Carter, the band consists of another ex-Woe Is Me member Michael Bohn and newcomers AJ Rebollo, Tyler Acord, Skyler Acord, and Josh Manuel. Other members of Woe Is Me were in the initial conception of Issues such as brothers Ben and Cory Ferris; however, they were unable to attend recording sessions and subsequently left the band.

The band released their first EP “Black Diamonds” on 13 November 2012 to generally favorable reviews as well as success on the charts. “Black Diamonds” peaked to 96 on the US charts and all the way to number 8 on the US Hard Rock charts. The band already showed a stylistic difference from Woe Is Me. Instead of writing material with a straightforward approach to metalcore the band implemented use of synthesizers, turntables, and rap verses into their hardcore sound. Around the time of this release the band toured extensively with bands such as Attila, Make Me Famous, and Ice Nine Kills.

The group reinforced their reputation as multi-varied artists by releasing a seemingly ironic, but nevertheless sincere cover of Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend”. This track was released on the compilation Punk Goes Pop 5. The band continued this trend by reworking the ‘N SYNC song “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” for the Punk Goes Christmas compilation.

Apart from the occasional single the band’s next big release was their 2014 self-titled debut. After this release the band’s profile seemed to explode. They were supporting mainstay metalcore acts like Bring Me the Horizon and Of Mice & Men throughout their American tour and they were also scheduled to play the entirety of the 2014 Vans Warped Tour. The band has also played huge events outside the United States such as Reading and Leeds Festival. Issues have established themselves as a prominent group within the hardcore and experimental pop music scene and embarked on a headlining tour in 2014 supported by the likes of I Killed the Prom Queen, Ghost Town, Marmozets, and Nightmares.

Live reviews

New kids on the block, Issues is the word on everyone’s lips.

Formed in 2012 by former vocalist of metalcore band Woe Is Me, Tyler Carter and DJ Tyler “Scout” Acord, Issues began as a side project and thus progressing into something truly wonderful. One of the great things about this band is that they are open to interpretation, some might debate their genre classification but at the end of the day Issues mean something different to everyone. Think Nu-Metal circa 2012. Drawing on all their influences and taking what’s hot (for instance the revival of EDM) and creating an exciting, fresh and new music.

Like the name suggests, the lyrical subject matter deals with all kinds of personal subjects which allows for audiences to relate to on various levels. Recruiting unclean vocalist Michael Bohn (WIM), AJ Rebollo, Sky Acord and eventually Josh Manuel to complete the current Issues line-up. Their debut EP “Black Diamonds” (Rise Records) released in the latter half of 2012, allowed them to experiment with their new sound and appeal to fans of multiple genres: pop, metal, r & b and hardcore, seems like an odd mix but it works. “Her Monologue” and “King of Amarillo” are perfect examples of the success they’ve achieved in creating this cohesive fusion.

Touring with bands such as: Atilla, Bring Me The Horizon, Letlive, Pierce The Veil and Of Mice & Men allowed them win over new fans with their unique fusion of genres and energy fuelled live shows. With their highly anticipated self-titled debut album providing new anthems to inspire a whole new direction for their live shows it allows fans to connect even more at a personal level.

From the moment they step on stage, the audience are already engaged swooning over Carter’s effortless impeccable soulful and r & b vocals, combined with the electronic beats provided by DJ Scout and the metal breakdowns it’s hard to not feel the music move you. Having worked tirelessly to spread the message of Issues, the band have captivated audiences along the way and growing their passionate fan base even further not only using their infectious charm but also by being able to relate through the variety of issues that their music explores. Hooligans rise! An endearing term they use to identify their fans, and surely enough they go insane as anthems such as “Hooligans” and “Never Lose Your Flames” amassing a huge sing-a-long, flailing their arms from side to side. Whether you’re a fan of pop, metal, r & b or EDM, there’s something for everyone, I dare you not to love Issues.

Best night OF MY LIFE! Memphis was the best show and they killed it! I got front with my friend and I made so much eye contact with Michael and Aj. I even gave Michael my choker!! Tyler held my hand and let’s just say I cried a total of THREE TIMES during their set. I hope to remember this night for the rest of my life. Truly memorable and every band did fantastic! :D

I saw them November 13 at The Pressroom in Phoenix, AZ. They put on the best show I have ever seen. I may be biased because they are my favorite band lol. They sounded even better live which I didn’t think was possible. The musicianship is outstanding. They played about 20 songs and the crowd never let up. 10/10 recommend.

Issues was the headliner for the concert, which I attended with three others.

The show was very good and the venue provided good acoustics. Tyler Carter was in fine voice and very friendly with the audience. The acoustic version of Princeton Avenue was my favorite of the night.

I would see them again.

Omg!! The concert was amazing! The venue in general is really small, but it was amazing! No complaints. Crown the Empire killed it tbh! Just an amazing set! They really need to come again together. I have Post Concert Depression right now.

ISSUES break up, announce final shows

Issues band 2023

Issues  have formally called it quits. In 2020, the alt-metalcore band fired their singer Tyler Carter after allegations  of sexual assault and grooming emerged online.

Since then, they've been entirely silent, but today (November 17th) they suddenly returned to social media to announce they're breaking up after playing three final shows early next year.

The band's remaining three members — guitarist Adrian Rebollo, bassist Skylar Acord and drummer-unclean vocalist Josh Manuel — will be performing in Anaheim, Chicago and Atlanta in January 2024.

It's unclear who will be filling Carter's spot as lead vocalist at these shows, but the band released a statement explaining their decision to break up.

"Issues has been a central figure in our lives since 2012," the band wrote. "We've played countless shows, toured almost every continent, met thousands of people, and made so many friends in our peers and travel companions.

"The importance of this band to our lives cannot be overstated. So many of you were right there with us.

"2020 hit us as hard as it could possibly hit a band. Tours canceled after we paid the deposits, new album cycle cut short, and the last any of you guys heard from us was when we fired our singer. All of these were incredibly traumatic experiences, not only for us, but also the fans to whom our music means the most.

"Life changed for the three of us after 2020 in significant ways that made making Issues our full time job impossible, but it doesn't feel right to end our story in tragedy. We feel very strongly that the legacy we want to leave be a positive one.

"These shows are the final chapter in a long history of pushing the limits of composition, musicianship, and culture in every way we could. We want them to contextualize our body of work over the controversy and member changes and gossip and bullshit and to stand as a monument to the thre real muffuckas still standing, the music we're so proud of, and the fans still with us.

"If this band has ever meant anything to you we want you to be proud of being a part of this too. Proud of the gigs you've seen, the tattoos you got, the friends you made. So we're putting this shit to bed in true Issues fashion. Very, very loudly."

The three remaining members of Issues have unveiled a proper farewell statement, and confirmed details of a trio of final gigs in January.

Issues’ remaining members are going to play three final shows

Atlanta R&B and metalcore crew Issues have announced their final-ever shows.

The band – guitarist/vocalist AJ Rebollo, bassist/vocalist Skyler Acord and drummer Josh Manuel – have shared a new farewell statement to fans after several years of silence, following the departure of frontman Tyler Carter in 2020 due to sexual misconduct allegations .

They say today that “it doesn’t feel right to end our story in tragedy”, and therefore they’ll be saying a proper goodbye via three final shows in Anaheim, Chicago and their hometown in early 2024.

“Issues has been a central figure in our lives since 2012,” begins the statement. “We’ve played countless shows, toured almost every continent, met thousands of people, and made so many friends in our peers and travel companions. The importance of this band to our lives cannot be overstated. So many of you were right there with us.

“2020 hit us as hard as it could possibly hit a band. Tours cancelled after we paid the deposits, new album cycle cut short, and the last any of you guys heard from us was when we fired our singer. All of these were incredibly traumatic experiences, not only for us, but also the fans to whom our music means the most. Life changed for the three of us after 2020 in significant ways that made making Issues our full time job impossible, but it doesn’t feel right to end our story in tragedy. We feel very strongly that the legacy we want to leave be a positive one.

“These shows are the final chapter in a long history of pushing the limits of composition, musicianship, and culture in every way we could. We want them to contextualise our body of work over the controversy and member changes and gossip and bullshit and to stand as a monument to the three real muff*ckas still standing, the music we’re so proud of, and the fans still with us. If this band has ever meant anything to you we want you to be proud of being a part of this too. Proud of the gigs you’ve seen, the tattoos you got, the friends you made. So we’re putting this shit to bed in true Issues fashion. Very, very loudly.”

Issues Announces Break-Up, Final Round of Gigs

Metalcore band Issues is officially calling it quits.

The group took to social media over the weekend after nearly four years of silence to confirm that they’ll be splitting up in 2024. Their decision follows multiple woes for the band since the coronavirus pandemic, including “tours canceled after we paid the deposits, new album cycle cut short, and the last any of you guys heard from us was when we fired our singer.” Frontman Tyler Carter was officially kicked-out of the band due to sexual misconduct allegations.

“Life changed for the three of us after 2020 in significant ways that made making Issues our full time job impossible, but it doesn’t feel right to end our story in tragedy,” the band said. “We feel very strongly that the legacy we want to leave be a positive one.”

To say farewell to their career spanning over a decade, the trio will play three shows in January. They’ll kick things off at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California, followed by shows at the Chicago House of Blues and The Masquerade in Atlanta.

“These shows are the final chapter in a long history of pushing the limits of composition, musicianship, and culture in every way we could,” Issues said. “We want them to contextualize our body of work over the controversy and member changes and gossip and bullshit and to stand as a monument to the 3 real muffuckas still standing, the music we’re so proud of, and the fans still with us.”

The group went on to note that “if this band has ever meant anything to you we want you to be proud of being a part of this too,” noting “we’re putting this shit to bed in true Issues fashion. Very, very loudly.”

Issues first arrived on the scene in 2012 and came out swinging with their highly-acclaimed self-titled debut album, featuring “Never Lose Your Flames” and “Mad at Myself.” They continued with Headspace and Beautiful Oblivion , exploring different blends of nu metal, pop, electronic, and R&B mixed-in with their metalcore roots. Following Carter’s departure, the trio now includes original guitarist and unclean vocalist Adrian “AJ” Rebollo, bassist Skyhler Acord, and drummer Josh Manuel.

The Touring Business Is Booming — But Problems Linger for Smaller Acts

While equipment is easier to come by, crew and vehicle shortages — along with "astronomical" prices — remain an issue for theater and club acts on the road.

  • By Steve Knopper

Steve Knopper

Bad Omens

Over just seven or eight months, touring has evolved from an emotional nightmare for small and mid-range touring acts to what many managers and agents say is a booming, healthy business. But the influx of artists hitting the road midway through 2023 continues to cause supply-and-demand challenges — specifically around vehicles and crew.

“Everybody seems to be out on the road and all the shows seem to be doing really, really well,” says Joady Harper , CEO and founder of Rocky Road Touring, the agency for Sisters of Mercy, Killing Joke, Peter Murphy and others. “It’s almost like all the problems are because of how successful everything is. I feel like the clock struck 12 on Dec. 31, and I haven’t put the phone or the computer down ever since. It’s just been go, go, go.”

U.K. Music Tourism Boomed in 2022 With Help From Harry Styles, Dua Lipa & More

Trending on billboard.

For touring acts, the biggest issue remains difficulty in procuring buses, especially on short notice. During the pandemic, many drivers left the business, and bus companies’ fleets were designed for a much lower level of demand. Now, with more acts on the road, personnel and vehicle shortages have led to higher prices. Andy Vickery , tour manager for rockers Boys Like Girls, reserved vehicles and crew for a September club-and-theater tour six months ahead of time, compared to what might have taken a few days ahead of the group’s previous tour in 2016.

Vickery says prices also remain “astronomical” for vehicles and crew. Dave Chavarri, drummer for New Jersey metal band Ill Niño, says bus prices have increased by 40—50% since 2019 — from around $690 a week pre-pandemic to at least $1,200 per week now, not counting a $500-per-day driver and hundreds of dollars in daily fuel costs. And a semi-truck that cost $30,000 per month to haul production equipment pre-pandemic is often “almost double” today, says Vickery. That’s not to mention additional costs for things like maintenance and internet service.

Liam Pesce , manager of shock-metal band GWAR , says some bands lease older buses and save as much as $1,000 per day — but those vehicles tend to break down more frequently, and “you get what you pay for,” he says. “With GWAR, we take what we can get, because there’s a shortage lately.” Inflation has decreased significantly over the past year, but gas prices remain high in much of the United States, particularly on the West Coast and in the Northeast, in addition to the higher costs of drivers and in-demand crew members — forcing small-to-mid-level acts to cut costs. Some have no choice but to set a grueling schedule on the road, often performing five or six nights straight. This can lead to fatigue for artists and crew — particularly singers, who often aren’t able to take needed breaks between shows to recuperate.

How the Dysfunctional Ticketing Market Harms Artists & Fans – And What Can Be Done to…

“They can’t afford to take days off. You’re still paying your staff weekly,” says Chavarri of Ill Niño, which begins a tour in October with Cradle of Filth and DevilDriver . “But a singer can only do so much with vocal chords. You have to rest.”

Brian Schwartz , who manages Dinosaur Jr. and other touring acts, adds that many bands are reluctant to raise prices due to fans’ own financial hardships as a result of inflation, but the artists still have to pay the increasing prices for hotels, buses and crews. (Managers of international acts say it’s also costly and time-consuming to come up with U.S. visas for touring — and those costs could go up even further this year.) “It’s still very much a reality we’re all having to deal with. It just becomes harder to tour,” Schwartz says.

While megastar stadium and arena acts are able to absorb the higher costs, artists at the club and theater level have had to rethink their businesses — and even create new ones. In response to higher bus prices, Chavarri used his music-business connections to start a bus-rental company, TBA Bus Co., with a fleet of 10 vehicles, along with his wife and a friend, charging lower-than-average prices to customers like Mos Def , Coal Chamber and his own band and tourmates.

Artists are finding a variety of other ways to make the tougher conditions work. Miles Sherman , who co-manages rock band Bad Omens with former Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden, says the band’s staff has simply worked harder to manufacture merch, find deals, ramp up production and adapt to adversity. When New Jersey’s Bamboozle festival, where Bad Omens was slated to perform, abruptly canceled in April, the band pivoted to setting up a last-minute local pop-up store and meet-and-greet.

Can You Hear Me Now? Why Cell Phone Service Is Improving at Festivals

“It’s been difficult but also rewarding,” Sherman says. “All the tours have been selling extremely well and we continue to level up.”

Harper adds that agents and managers have become skilled at planning for tours farther in advance than ever before — unlike late 2021 and early 2022 when vaccines started to kick in and many artists rushed back to the road on short notice. She’s hopeful that “kids who came of age during COVID” are finally able to see the bands they discovered online, creating what she calls “a brand-new, gig-going audience.”

Schwartz, who also manages Dawes and Hiss Golden Messenger , is more cautiously optimistic about the economic future of touring at this level. “We’re in this hybrid space,” he says, “where it’s not as bad as it was six months ago, it’s not as good as it can be, but we’re getting there.”

Important information for buying tickets during the TaylorSwiftTix Presale powered by Verified Fan:

Our goal is to maximize the number of fans who have an opportunity to shop.

The link in your text will direct you to the show you were selected for — either a show that was available during registration or a show that was announced after registration closed.

If you were selected for a show available during registration, your code will enable you to shop  that  show  or any show in the same city  that was announced after registration closed. (You will not be able to shop a different show that was available during registration).

If you were selected for a show announced after registration closed — i.e., the link in your text directs you to one of those shows — your code is good for that show. We recommend you use the code for that show as it will have the greatest availability for you. If you choose, you can use your code instead for the show you prioritized first during registration; however, we expect demand for that show to be higher and your wait to be longer.

Remember, each code only allows you to purchase 6 tickets.

What are the health check requirements?

Bruce Springsteen Returns to the Stage in Phoenix After Health Issues Postponed His 2023 World Tour

PHOENIX (AP) — Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band returned to the stage Tuesday evening at the Footprint Center in Phoenix in a triumphant reboot of the Boss’ postponed 2023 world tour.

In September Springsteen, 74, announced his tour would be delayed until 2024 , citing doctor’s advice as he recovered from peptic ulcer disease.

“The Boss” arrived on stage to an audience chorus of “Bruuuuce!” Wearing dark jeans and a rolled up red plaid flannel shirt, he had the energy of a man half his age. His signature “One, two, three, four” was the only thing that separated most songs, showing no signs of his illness from the previous year. Once he shouted, “Good evening, Arizona ” the show was off and running.

Springsteen spoke to the crowd briefly about his illness prior to playing his final song “I’ll See You In My Dreams” solo on stage. “Phoenix, first I want to apologize if there was any discomfort because we had to move the show last time. . . . I hope we didn’t inconvenience you too much.”

The 29-song show came in just under three hours, but “The Boss” hardly broke a sweat while showing off a strong voice, all the while dancing, tearing into guitar solos, playing the harmonica and even ripping his shirt open near the end of the show.

On stage with Springsteen was the legendary E Street Band which features drummer Max Weinberg, bassist Garry Tallent, keyboardists Roy Bittan and Charlie Giordano, guitarists Stevie Van Zandt and Nils Lofgren, saxophonist Jake Clemons — nephew of original and still missed sax man Clarence Clemons who died in 2011 — guitarist and violin player Soozie Tyrell, a full horn and brass section and four backup vocalists. The only missing member of the band was Springsteen’s wife, singer and guitarist Patti Scialfa.

Springsteen performed most of the hits in his vast collection, minus “Born In The U.S.A.,” but he added covers “Nightshift” by the Commodores, “Because The Night” by Patti Smith Group, and a surprise: “Twist and Shout” by The Beatles. Fans went wild for “No Surrender,” “Born To Run,” “Rosalita,” “Dancing In The Dark,” “Glory Days” and “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" that left the rocker grinning from ear-to-ear as he conducted fans singing along like his own chorus.

This year has been particularly challenging for Springsteen. In addition to his health issues, in January his mother, Adele Ann Springsteen, a fan favorite who could frequently be seen dancing at his shows, died . She was 98.

Two days after her death, Springsteen performed at the 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year event, which honored Jon Bon Jovi for his musical achievements and philanthropic efforts.

The 2024 edition of the tour kicked off in Phoenix and ends Nov. 22 in Vancouver, Canada. It hits 17 countries across 52 dates, including a special performance on Sept. 15 where Springsteen will headline the Sea.Hear.Now Festival in his hometown of Asbury Park, New Jersey .

In addition to his health issues, in January his mother, Adele Ann Springsteen, a fan favorite who could frequently be seen dancing at his shows, died. She was 98.

Two days after her death, Springsteen performed at the 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year event , which honored Jon Bon Jovi for his musical achievements and philanthropic efforts.

The 2024 edition of the tour kicked off in Phoenix and ends Nov. 22 in Vancouver, Canada. It hits 17 countries across 52 dates, including a special performance on Sept. 15 where Springsteen will headline the Sea.Hear.Now Festival in his hometown of Asbury Park, New Jersey.

Scottie Scheffler won the Masters Tournament for the second time on Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club.

In doing so, he not only reclaimed the green jacket, he earned another $3.6 million. That puts him over $15 million in official earnings this season.

Scheffler continues his march up the PGA Tour career earnings list, moving to 10th all-time with $57.6 million. Tiger Woods, who made $39,600 after finishing last among those who made the cut, is first with $120,994,366.

Here's a look at how the $20-million Masters purse was paid out:

Striking findings from 2023

issues tour 2023

Pew Research Center has gathered data around some of this year’s defining news stories, from the rise of artificial intelligence to the debate over affirmative action in college admissions . Here’s a look back at 2023 through some of our most striking research findings.

These findings only scratch the surface of the Center’s research from this past year .

A record-high share of 40-year-olds in the U.S. have never been married, according to a Center analysis of the most recent U.S. Census Bureau data . As of 2021, a quarter of 40-year-olds had never been married – up from 6% in 1980.

A line chart showing the share of 40-year-olds who have never been married from 1900 to 2021 by decade. The highest level is 2021, when 25% were never married. The prior high point was 1910, when 16% of 40-year-olds had never married. The share never married declines through the 20th century and reaches its lowest point in 1980, when 6% of 40-year-olds had never been married.

In 2021, the demographic groups most likely not to have ever been married by age 40 include men, Black Americans and those without a four-year college degree.

A Center survey conducted in April found that relatively few Americans see marriage as essential for people to live a fulfilling life compared with factors like job satisfaction and friendship. While majorities say that having a job or career they enjoy (71%) and having close friends (61%) are extremely or very important for living a fulfilling life, far fewer say this about having children (26%) or being married (23%). Larger shares, in fact, say having children (42%) or being married (44%) are not too or not at all important.

About half of Americans say the increased use of artificial intelligence in daily life makes them feel more concerned than excited – up 14 percentage points from last year, according to an August survey . Overall, 52% of Americans say they feel this way, an increase from 38% in December 2022.

Just 10% of adults say they are more excited than concerned about the increased use of AI, while 36% say they feel an equal mix of these emotions.

A bar chart showing that concern about artificial intelligence in daily life far outweighs excitement.

The rise in concern about AI has taken place alongside growing public awareness of the technology. Nine-in-ten adults say they have heard either a lot (33%) or a little (56%) about artificial intelligence. The share of those who have heard  a lot  is up 7 points since December 2022.

For the first time in over 30 years of public opinion polling, Americans’ views of the U.S. Supreme Court are more negative than positive, a July survey found . A narrow majority (54%) have an unfavorable view of the high court, while fewer than half (44%) express a favorable one.

A line chart showing that favorable views of Supreme Court at lowest point in more than three decades of public opinion polling.

The court’s favorable rating has declined 26 percentage points since 2020, following a series of high-profile rulings on issues including affirmative action in college admissions, LGBTQ+ rights and student loans. The drop in favorability is primarily due to a decline among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents, just 24% of whom express a favorable opinion of the court.

A growing share of U.S. adults say the federal government should take steps to restrict false information online, even if it limits freedom of information, a June survey found . The share of U.S. adults with this view has risen from 39% in 2018 to 55% in 2023.

In the most recent survey, 42% of adults took the opposite view, saying the government should protect freedom of information, even if it means false information can be published.

Still, Americans remain more likely to say that tech companies – rather than the U.S. government – should be responsible for restricting false information online. About two-thirds (65%) said this in June.

A bar chart showing that support for the U.S. government and tech companies restricting false information online has risen steadily in recent years.

The number of U.S. children and teens killed by gunfire rose 50% in just two years, according to a 2023 analysis of data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In 2019, there were 1,732 gun deaths among U.S. children and teens under 18. By 2021, that figure had increased to 2,590.

The gun death  rate  among children and teens – a measure that adjusts for changes in the nation’s population – rose 46% during that span.

A chart that shows a 50% increase in gun deaths among U.S. kids between 2019 and 2021.

Both the number and rate of children and teens killed by gunfire in 2021 were the highest since at least 1999, the earliest year for which this information is available in the CDC’s mortality database.

Most Asian Americans view their ancestral homelands favorably – but not Chinese Americans, according to a multilingual, nationally representative survey of Asian American adults .

A dot plot showing that most Asian American adults have positive views of the homelands of their ancestors. Taiwanese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Filipino and Vietnamese adults have majority favorable views of their ancestral homelands. Only 41% of Chinese American adults have a favorable view of China.

Only about four-in-ten Chinese Americans (41%) have a favorable opinion of China, while 35% have an unfavorable one. Another 22% say they have a neither favorable nor unfavorable view. This stands in contrast to how other Asian Americans view their ancestral homelands. For instance, about nine-in-ten Taiwanese and Japanese Americans have a very or somewhat favorable opinion of their place of origin, as do large majorities of Korean, Indian and Filipino Americans.

While Chinese Americans’ views of China are more mixed, they still have a more favorable opinion of the country than other Asian adults do. Just 14% of other Asian Americans view China favorably.

Even before the Israel-Hamas war, Israelis had grown more skeptical of a two-state solution. In a survey conducted in March and April , prior to the war, just 35% of Israelis thought “a way can be found for Israel and an independent Palestinian state to coexist peacefully.” This share had declined by 9 percentage points since 2017 and 15 points since 2013.

A line chart showing that fewer Israelis now believe that Israel and an independent Palestine can coexist peacefully.

Among both Arabs and Jews living in Israel, there have been declines over the past decade in the share of people who believe that a peaceful coexistence between Israel and an independent Palestinian state is possible.

A majority of Americans say they would tip 15% or less for an average restaurant dining experience, including 2% who wouldn’t leave a tip at all, an August survey shows . The survey presented respondents with a hypothetical scenario in which they went to a sit-down restaurant and had average – but not exceptional – food and service. About six-in-ten (57%) say they would leave a tip of 15% or less in this situation. Another 12% say they would leave a tip of 18%, and a quarter of people say they’d tip 20% or more.

Adults in lower-income households and those ages 65 and older are more likely than their counterparts to say they would tip 15% or less in a situation like this.

Bar chart showing that a 57% majority of U.S. adults say they would tip 15% or less for an average meal at a sit-down restaurant.

Partisan views of Twitter – the social media platform now called X – have shifted over the last two years, with Republican users’ views of the site growing more positive and those of Democratic users becoming more negative, according to a March survey . The share of Republican and GOP-leaning users who said the site is mostly bad for American democracy fell from 60% in 2021 to 21% earlier this year. At the same time, the share of Republican users who said the site is mostly good for democracy rose from 17% to 43% during the same span.

Democrats’ views moved in the opposite direction during that time frame. The percentage of Democratic and Democratic-leaning Twitter users who said the platform is good for American democracy decreased from 47% to 24%, while the share who said it is bad for democracy increased – though more modestly – from 28% to 35%.

These changes in views follow Elon Musk’s takeover of the platform in fall 2022.

A collection of charts showing a partisan divide over whether misinformation, harassment and civility are major problems on Twitter.

Nearly half of U.S. workers who get paid time off don’t take all the time off their employer offers, according to a February survey of employed Americans . Among those who say their employer offers paid time off for vacation, doctors’ appointments or to deal with minor illnesses, 46% say they take less time off than they are allowed. A similar share (48%) say they typically take all the time off they are offered.

Among those who don’t take all their paid time off, the most common reasons cited are not feeling the need to take more time off (52% say this), worrying they might fall behind at work (49%), and feeling badly about their co-workers taking on additional work (43%).

Bar chart showing more than four-in-ten workers who get paid time off say they take less time off than their employer allows

Smaller shares cite other concerns, including the feeling that taking more time off might hurt their chances for job advancement (19%) or that they might risk losing their job (16%). Some 12% say their manager or supervisor discourages them from taking time off.

An overwhelming majority of Americans (79%) express a negative sentiment when asked to describe politics in the United States these days, a July survey found . Just 2% offer a positive word or phrase, while 10% say something neutral.

Among those who volunteered an answer, 8% use the word “ divisive” or variations of it, while 2% cite the related term “polarized.” “Corrupt” is the second-most frequent answer, given by 6% of respondents.

The top 15 most cited words also include “messy,” “chaos,” “broken” and “dysfunctional.” Many respondents are even more negative in their views: “terrible,” “disgusting,” “disgrace” and the phrase “dumpster fire” are each offered by at least 1% of respondents.

Chart shows ‘Divisive,’ ‘corrupt,’ ‘messy’ among the words used most frequently to describe U.S. politics today

Around half of Americans (53%) say they have ever been visited by a dead family member in a dream or in another form, according to a spring survey . Overall, 46% of Americans report that they’ve been visited by a dead family member in a dream, while 31% report having been visited by dead relatives in some other form.

A bar chart that shows 6 in 10 members of the historically Black Protestant tradition say they've been visited by a dead relative in a dream.

Women are more likely than men to report these experiences.

While the survey asked whether people have had interactions with dead relatives, it did not ask for explanations. So, we don’t know whether people view these experiences as mysterious or supernatural, whether they see them as having natural or scientific causes, or some of both.

For example, the survey did not ask what respondents meant when they said they had been visited in a dream by a dead relative. Some might have meant that relatives were trying to send them messages or information from beyond the grave. Others might have had something more commonplace in mind, such as dreaming about a favorite memory of a family member.

More Americans disapprove than approve of selective colleges and universities taking race and ethnicity into account when making admissions decisions, according to another spring survey , fielded before the Supreme Court ruled on the practice in June. Half of U.S. adults disapprove of colleges considering race and ethnicity to increase diversity at the schools, while a third approve and 16% are not sure.

A diverging bar chart showing that half of U.S. adults disapprove of selective colleges considering race and ethnicity in admissions decisions, while a third approve.

Views differ widely by party, as well as by race and ethnicity. Around three-quarters of Republicans and Republican leaners (74%) disapprove of the practice, while 54% of Democrats and Democratic leaners approve of it.

Nearly half of Black Americans (47%) say they approve of colleges and universities considering race and ethnicity in admissions, while smaller shares of Hispanic (39%), Asian (37%) and White (29%) Americans say the same.

The share of Americans who say science has had a mostly positive effect on society has declined since 2019, before the coronavirus outbreak, a fall survey shows : 57% say science has had a mostly positive effect on society, down from 73% in 2019.

About a third of adults (34%) now say the impact of science on society has been equally positive and negative. And 8% say science has had a mostly negative impact on society.

Chart shows Fewer Americans now say science has had a mostly positive effect on society

Democrats have become much more likely than Republicans to say science has had a mostly positive impact on society (69% vs. 47%). This gap is the result of steeper declines in positive ratings among Republicans than among Democrats since 2019 (down 23 points and 8 points, respectively).

Nearly three-in-ten Americans express an unfavorable opinion of both major political parties – the highest share in at least three decades, according to a July survey . Overall, 28% of Americans have an unfavorable opinion of both the Republican and Democratic parties. This is more than quadruple the share in 1994, when just 6% of Americans viewed both parties negatively.

Chart shows Since the mid-1990s, the share of Americans with unfavorable views of both parties has more than quadrupled

A majority of Americans say TikTok is a threat to national security, according to a survey conducted in May . About six-in-ten adults (59%) see the social media platform as a major or minor threat to national security in the United States. Just 17% say it is  not  a threat to national security and another 23% aren’t sure.

A bar chart showing that a majority of Americans say TikTok is a national security threat, but this varies by party, ideology and age.

Views vary by partisanship and age. Seven-in-ten Republicans and GOP leaners say TikTok is at least a minor threat to national security, compared with 53% of Democrats and Democratic leaners. Conservative Republicans are more likely than moderate or liberal Republicans – or Democrats of any ideology – to say the view the app as a major threat.

Nearly half of those ages 65 and older (46%) see TikTok as a major threat to national security, compared with a much smaller share (13%) of adults ages 18 to 29.
