BAGUIO CITY TRAVEL GUIDE with Budget Itinerary

There were shooting stars.

I was a High School sophomore when I set foot in Baguio for the very first time. The details of the event are fuzzy now, but it was a Boy Scout-related trip. I was just a few steps to becoming an Eagle Scout then, which was something my friends and I had been working hard to achieve. To ensure I would be joining the trip, I had to work a little bit harder. My classmates didn’t know it then — they thought every penny I had for that trip was given — but I had to earn it by selling fishballs.

After over 10 hours of bus ride from Batangas, we finally reached Baguio at around midnight. In the middle of unloading our bags, my friends and I sat and rested on the base of flagpole. As we were having a conversation about the cold, shooting stars streaked across the night sky.

That was my earliest memory of Baguio City. Even now that the city has undergone a lot of changes and more cool, rustic towns have become accessible, I still find myself in a bus bound for Baguio again and again. It’s hard to forget something that left such a magical first impression. I mean, there were shooting stars.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

UNDERSTANDING BAGUIO

Baguio was built as a hill station in 1900, at the start of the American Colonial Period. That’s why the names of many of the key landmarks sound western or American. Burnham Park was named after Architect Daniel Burnham, who planned the city; Wright Park after Governor-General Luke Edward Wright; Camp John Hay after John Milton Hay, who was President Roosevelt’s Secretary of State; and Bell House after General J. Franklin Bell. The Mansion, one of the city’s most recognizable buildings, was constructed to serve as the official residence of the Governor General.

Today, Baguio is the biggest city and the economic center of the Cordillera region. Despite being a resort city, it is highly urbanized, home to almost 350,000 residents, many of which are from surrounding towns and provinces who moved to the city for work or studies. It is this cooler attitude that makes Baguio a magnet for tourists trying to escape the searing heat of the lowlands, especially in the summer.

Long before Sagada and Kalinga entered the collective consciousness of tourists, Baguio City was the go-to destination in the Cordillera region. It is known by a number of nicknames including City of Pines and Summer Capital of the Philippines , bestowed upon it because it is perched in the middle of tropical pine forests around 1500 meters above sea level, ensuring cool, pleasant temperatures year-round.

Here are more things you need to know about Baguio City.

• Language: The four most spoken Philippine languages in Baguio are Ibaloi, Kankana-ey, Ilocano, and Tagalog. But English is widely understood and spoken too.
• Currency: Philippine peso (PHP, ₱). PHP100 is around USD 1.90, EUR 1.69, SGD 2.57 (as of April 2019).
• Modes of payment: Credit cards are accepted by many establishments but CASH is still king (and queen) in Baguio.

WHERE TO STAY IN BAGUIO

Baguio looks easy and simple on the map, but it is a lot more complicated in reality. But picture it this way: At the very center of the city is Burnham Park. Many of the key places of interest are located somewhere around it. Most key roads is somehow directly connected to it. Even jeepney terminals are easily accessible from the park.

Hence, if it’s your first time and you want to see the key attractions in the city, pick a place that is located near Burnham Park. It doesn’t have to be directly across the park. Even hotels that are just a short walk away will do. This area will be most convenient for you.

But if you’re after some peace of mind and you’re not here to go sightseeing, choose a hotel that is located away from Burnham Park and a little bit isolated from all the busyness. Baguio, after all, is still a bona fide urban hub, with lots of buildings and vehicles and people.

HOW TO GET TO BAGUIO FROM MANILA

Several bus companies ply the Manila-Baguio route. You can catch a bus at the following terminals:

• Genesis Transport: Cubao
• Dagupan Bus Lines: Cubao
• PARTAS: Cubao and Pasay
• Joy Bus (Genesis): Pasay and Avenida
• Victory Liner: Cubao and Pasay

Baguio is only 4-6 hours away from Manila, depending on which part of Manila you’re coming from, which route the bus takes, and whether or not it makes a stop along the way. Regular buses usually take Dau Exit (NLEX) or Concepcion Exit (SCTEX) and make at least one stop.

But higher end buses like Joy Bus and Victory Liner’s first-class service use NLEX, SCTEX, and TPLEX non-stop, cutting down the travel time to 4-5 hours. First class buses also have wider legrooms and free snacks.

When I go to Baguio, I usually book with Victory Liner. No particular reason, really. It’s just out of habit. Haha. So I’m most familiar with their fares.

From the new Victory Liner terminal, you can take a cab to your hotel. If your hotel is near Burnham Park, the fare should be around P70.

HOW TO GET AROUND BAGUIO

One thing that you as a tourist needs to know about Baguio is that attractions are scattered around the city in clusters. The problem is that these clusters are far from each other. Hence, it’s best to explore by cluster. There are two main modes of transportation:

• Jeepney. The cheaper way to get around. If your hotel is near Burnham, you can easily find a jeepney. There are terminals just outside the park. Minimum fare is P8.50.
• Taxi. The more convenient way. If you’re a group, it’s affordable too. Cabs in Baguio are much cheaper than in Manila, and taxi drivers are known to be honest and give exact change (unlike in Manila). Of course, there are also bad drivers, but they are more the exception than the rule. Flagdown rate is P35.

GrabTaxi works in Baguio, but the number of available cabs is very limited, so expect to wait a long time to book.

You can also travel on foot. Within the city proper, I usually just walk. But I have to warn you that it can be exhausting. Visitors usually forget that Baguio’s terrain is largely uneven, something that isn’t obvious if you rely on flat maps. But once you’re there, you’ll realize that walking around Baguio involves uphill climbs. If you’re not familiar with some short cuts, you’ll also find yourself walking long distances.

THINGS TO DO IN BAGUIO & LA TRINIDAD

Camp john hay.

This is my favorite place in the city. When I was young and I conjured up images of Baguio in my head, they looked like Camp John Hay and its thick blanket of pine trees. It was established on October 25, 1903 as an R&R (rest and recreation) station exclusively for the US Armed Forces in the Philippines. At the height of World War II, it was bombed by the Japanese but fell back in the hands of the Americans in 1945. Almost 50 years later, it was turned over to the Philippine government, which transformed the site into a tourist site.

There’s a lot to enjoy here including the following:

• Treetop Adventures, where you can enjoy thrilling rides like the Superman Ride (zipline), Canopy Ride, and Tree Drop (harnessed free fall).
• Bell House, formerly the official vacation residence of the Commanding General of the Philippines. It now houses a museum featuring American colonial architecture.
• Butterfly Garden, good to see if you’ve never been to any butterfly garden before or if you’re with kids. Otherwise, skippable.
• Cemetery of Negativism, a symbolic site for the burying of negativities — thoughts, emotions, attitude.
• Yellow Trail, aka Forest Bathing Trail, a 1.5km easy hiking path that will lead you through and around the pine forest. The trek takes around 2 hours. You can do it in 2 ways. The usual route is generally uphill, starting at Le Monet Hotel and ending at Scout Hill. If you don’t think you have the stamina, you can do it the other way around instead. (That’s what we did, LOL!) We thoroughly enjoyed it!

La Trinidad Strawberry Farm

Baguio is almost synonymous with strawberries, but the most visited strawberry farm is actually in La Trinidad, 30 minutes away. Here, you’ll find plots of strawberries alongside vegetables and flowers. You can buy strawberries here for P250-P300 per kilo. If you want to pick the berries yourselves, prepare to shell out additional P200.

Lying along the farm is a pasalubong center made up of several souvenir stores. If you get hungry, try the strawberry ice cream (which is really good) and strawberry taho!

Colors of Stobosa (Mural Houses)

Not too far away from the strawberry field are the colorful houses of Stobosa. This community project is one of the newest attractions in La Trinidad. More formally referred to as Stobosa Hillside Homes Artwork, it is basically a cluster of hillside houses painted in various colors by the designers of Tam-awan Village. “Stobosa” stands for Stonehill, Botiwtiw, and Sadjap, the three sitios that make up the giant artwork.

Bell Church

Just within walking distance of Stobosa Artwork is Bell Church, one of the most popular tourist sites in the Baguio-La Trinidad area. The Bell Church is a Chinese temple run and managed by a Filipino-Chinese religious organization, established by immigrants from Canton (Guangzhou) in 1960.

BenCab Museum

BenCab Museum is actually located in the town of Tuba, but it’s just a short drive from the Baguio city center. The museum houses the works of Benedicto Reyes Cabrera, a National Artist for Visual Arts, and other Filipino contemporary art masters. Set amid relaxing greenery, the BenCan Museum is not just a place to appreciate art but also reflect.

Hours open: Tuesdays-Sundays 9am-6pm Last entry: 5:30pm Closed: Mondays, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Entrance Fee: P120

How to get there: From the public market, ride a jeepney bound for Asin. Fare is less than P20.

Tam-awan Village

Nicknamed “Garden in the Sky,” Tam-awan Village is a reconstruction of a traditional Cordilleran village set in a forest. Established by the Chanum Foundation in 1988, it aims to showcase the craftsmanship and aesthetics of the Cordillera and bring the region’s culture closer to more people while also promoting local artists. Currently, the village has Ifugao and Kalinga model houses, built using only traditional materials.

Entrance fee: P60

Burnham Park

Most probably, Burnham Park is Baguio’s most well-known attraction. When you see it on the map, it doesn’t look much, but in reality, it is huge. Within its expanse are several smaller places of interest. The Melvin Jones Grandstand is the most visible, but if you walk around, you’ll also see the Children’s Playground and the Orchidarium, among others.

There’s also a lot of activities to enjoy here, mostly catering to families. You can rent a swan boat so you can paddle along Burnham Lagoon or you can rent a bike or go kart and ride around the park. Here are the rates.

Rental fees: Chopper (big bike): P75 per 30 minutes Go kart: P50 per 30 minutes Boat: P100 per 30 minutes (good for 5 pax) + P50 if with rower

Mines View Park

Another popular tourist spot is Mines View Park, so called because it overlooks the gold and copper mines of Itogon town below. The viewpoint is also a fantastic spot to watch the sunrise.

Unlike Burnham Park, the place can get crowded because the area isn’t that spacious. You’ll also find lots of souvenir stores around.

Botanical Garden

Situated between Wright Park and Teachers’ Camp along Leonard Wood Road, the Baguio Botanical Garden is another popular destination in the city. It’s a great place to relax and surround yourself with trees greenery without going too far from the city center. This is also pretty vast, so expect a bit of walking.

Entrance fee: FREE

Wright Park

Named after Governor-General Luke Edward Wright, Wright Park is a forested piece of land located just outside the Mansion. For tourists, it is the best site for horseback riding because of its proximity to the city center and the number of available horses to choose from.

Horseback riding rate: P200 for 7 rounds.

The Mansion

A short walk from Wright Park is the Mansion. Built in 1908, the Mansion served as the official residence of the US Governor-General in the Philippines. Today, it is the official summer palace of the President in the Philippines. Right across the Mansion is a long pond, the far end of which is a favorite photo spot.

Below is a sample Baguio itinerary for 3 days (good for a long weekend)! This assumes you’re a party of 2, splitting some costs and staying at a hotel in the city center. We also padded some of the costs to cover any price adjustments. As always, feel free to make changes to this to match your preferences.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When is the best time to visit baguio.

November to April , if you’re sightseeing.

Baguio enjoys cool temperature year-round, but of course, some months are better than others. November to April is the driest period, which is great if you’re planning on spending most of your time exploring. This means there is very little chance of heavy rain to put a damp on your itinerary.

December to February is the coldest period and it will steadily rise until May, but it’s still pretty chilly especially at night.

If you love festivals, visit in February when the Panagbenga (Baguio Flower Festival) is in full swing and see the grand parade of flowers. But expect thick crowds everywhere.

June to September is the wettest period, not ideal for touring. But if you’re visiting Baguio to reflect, be alone, or try to finish writing something (true story, lol), then you might find the damp, foggy mornings to be inspiring.

What is the tipping custom in Baguio?

Just like in other places in the Philippines, tipping is not mandatory in Baguio. Tip only if you really enjoyed the service to show your appreciation.

Taxi drivers in Baguio are also known for giving exact change, which doesn’t usually happen in Manila. But if you want to tip, you can just round up the meter. For example, if the cost of the ride is P62 and you pay P70, you can tell the driver to keep the change.

Baguio City: Basic Information and Brief History

Baguio is a highly urbanized city located in the province of Benguet. It is also known as the Summer Capital of the Philippines due to its chilly year-round environment. The city sits 4810 feet (1466 meters) above sea level, and its location is conducive to cultivating different root crops and vegetables.

Baguio City is also abundant in history. During the American Colonial Period in the 1900s, the US Military used Baguio as a hill station. Daniel Burnham, an urban designer, plans the whole city’s distinct layout. Unfortunately, during World War II, the Japanese attacked Camp John Hay, turning the city into ruins.

Currently, Baguio City is one of the most famous tourist spots in the country. But, who could imagine this mountainous city has a lot of historical moments that shaped the Philippines today?

Baguio Travel Requirements 2023

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected tourism not just in the Philippines but also around the world. Tourism is one of the economic sources of Baguio City, dramatically influencing people’s livelihood. As the city tries its best to recover from the pandemic, the local government decided to lift some of its travel restrictions to accommodate more tourists around the world.

Before visiting Baguio City, you need to have the following:

• QR-Code Traveler’s Pass (QTP)
• Vaccine Card/Certificate

To generate a QTP needed for your travel, please follow these steps:

• Create a  Baguio Visita Account  at  http://visita.baguio.gov.ph/
• Click ‘Schedule a Visit.’
• Create and schedule your travel by filling out the fields of information given (travel details, accommodation, travel agent details, place of origin, transportation details, and vaccination category), then click the “PROCEED” button.

As per Baguio’s tourism office, registration through the Visita Website is still mandatory for non-residents and non-employees of Baguio City. Additionally, group registration is also available on the Visita Website. You can do that by doing the following:

• Inside your Visita Account, go to My Travels.
• Click the ‘Add a Companion’ button and type the details needed.

Baguio Itinerary 1 Day: Exploring East Side Only

Baguio Itinerary 2 Days 1 Night: Exploring Part of Baguio + La Trinidad and Tuba in Benguet

The 2 Days 1 Night Baguio Itinerary explores the tourist spots outside Baguio City with a combination of the previous example. The first day will start at the luscious  Strawberry Farm of La Trinidad in Benguet and follow a southward fashion. The second day will be similar to the Day Tour Itinerary Sample.

Baguio Itinerary 3 Days and 2 Nights: Exploring Baguio and Certain Parts of Benguet

This Itinerary explores the popular tourist spots and never-seen places in Baguio. The first day of this Baguio Itinerary will explore the outskirts of the city, specifically the elusive Café in the Sky. The rest of the days will combine the two previous itineraries.

As of September 7, 2023, Cafe in the Sky is closed to the public. We suggest being flexible in your itinerary and visiting other city breakfast cafes.

These are our sample itineraries. We have used these itineraries in Baguio City for the last five years, and we hope this information will guide you in planning your next Baguio City Getaway. When is the best month to visit baguio city.

It is best to visit Baguio during December, January, and February. These periods are also the most congested since travelers all over the country want to experience a pleasant cool climate. Furthermore, Baguio City celebrates the Panagbenga Flower Festival annually in February .

Visiting Baguio City during March, April, and May is also good, but it will be slightly warmer than the previous months. Avoid visiting Baguio City from September to November due to heavy rains, and some major highways are impassable because of the increased risk of landslides.

Any additional travel tips in Baguio City?

• One important keyword:  Follow . Follow your itinerary, the city’s safety standards, and the travel and tour agency.
• Bring your jackets . The night is colder than you think, and wearing a jacket is an added layer of protection against the city’s cold climate.
• Always keep yourself hydrated . Baguio City is a high-altitude city, and you might experience altitude sickness if you explore the place on foot. Always bring a water bottle with you to avoid getting altitude sickness.
• Always bring a small bag . In traveling, you might bring a big 30L to 40L backpack full of clothes and things you need for the following days of your trip. Of course, you will not be getting your heavy bags with you during the tour. Keep your main bag in your hotel room or accommodation. Bringing a small bag helps explore the city without the excess weight.
• Reservations are king . It’s better to reserve things in advance before any trip or activity. Many travelers visit the city daily, and full accommodation is a common problem. Always book your accommodation in advance, it’s better this way than letting yourselves stay in the street braving the cold night.
• Have an open mind and be responsible . We are all visitors to this place; be sensitive and respect their culture, values, and norms. Avoid throwing trash and be responsible.

The last time we visited Cafe in the Sky was in 2017. We arrived at 5 AM and the cafe was already opened. I don’t know if it’s still the same today since that area is closed to the public. Only residents of Baguio City are allowed to enter the area.

Hi Carlo, Yes! The traffic is even worse during the holiday season. Most tourists keep their vehicles in their accommodation and ride a cab instead. Pero, it depends on the tourist attraction na pupuntahan ninyo. If you are planning to visit the most crowded places like (Wright Park, Mines View, Botanical Garden, and Session Road), I advise na mag-taxi na lang kayo. For places like BenCab and Strawberry Farm, you can bring your vehicle since medyo malayo na mga ito and baka mapa-mahal pa kayo if mag taxi kayo. Enjoy your upcoming vacation in Baguio!

Hello! True bang di na need ng QTP/Visita requirements pag nagpuntang Baguio?

Hi Key, I asked the staff from local Baguio Tourism Office and said that QTP is still required when visiting Baguio City. However, based on the experience of my fellow blogger on his recent trip, they are not implementing the QTP strictly anymore. To be safe, just apply for a QTP in case they look for it.

Baguio City One Day Itinerary

My first visit to Baguio was unplanned, and I only had a day to complete my tour. My work schedule ended at 6:00 of Saturday morning. I was on a night shift, so I had to sleep first before going to any trip.

I allocated my entire Sunday to tour around the city and cross out the spots on my list. Before heading for the solo jaunt, I did some research. I looked for places that are approximately close to the downtown.

On my list were: Baguio Cathedral, Baguio Botanical Garden, The Mansion, Wright Park, Mines View Park, Good Shepherds Convent, Port del Pilar or the Philippine Military Academy, Camp John Hay, Tam-Awan Village, Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto, and Burnham Park.

Below is the itinerary I followed during the tour. It was different from my original plan, though. I actually made some changes to accommodate other interesting sites, and in order for me to witness the graduation ceremony of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), which was schedule in the morning. I suppose to visit PMA in the afternoon.

One Day Itinerary

• 10:00PM – Victory Liner bus from Pasay City Terminal [previous day]
• 04:50AM – Arrival in Baguio City, and then a short walk to session road.
• 05:15AM – Baguio Cathedral visit.
• 05:30AM – Breakfast. I planed to have it at  Café by the Ruins , however, I had no idea about their opening schedule, so I settled at a local cafeteria.
• 06:10AM – Ride a jeepney to botanical Garden. The jeepney that will bring you to Botanical Garden is the same jeepney that will lead you to Good Shepherds Convent, Mines View park, and Wright Park. The route stated below the windshield is BAGUIO-PLAZA-MINES VIEW v/v which terminal is located at Mabini Street.
• 06:25AM – 07:00AM – Stroll around the Botanical Garden.
• 07:00AM – 07:30AM – Photo ops at The Mansion. The Mansion is walking distance (I spent 10 minutes) away from Botanical garden.
• 07:30AM – 8:30AM – Walk around the Wright Park, which is right in front of The Mansion. You can also rent a pony at 300 pesos per hour or 200 pesos for a half hour ride. 
• 08:30AM – 9:30AM – Picture taking at Mines View Park.
• 09:30AM – 10:00AM – Buy some bring-home presents at Good Shepherds Convent, which is a walking distance away from the Mines View.
• 10:00AM – 12:00PM – Port del Pilar (Philippine Military Academy). You can journey through the history of PMA just by viewing the galleries at the PMA museum.
• 12:00PM – 01:00PM – Lunch. Try to drop by at Café by the Ruins .
• 01:00PM – 03:30PM – Camp John Hay. You have an option to take your lunch at Camp John Hay. From PMA, you can ride a jeepney that travels back to the city. This will pass Camp John Hay (Ayala Hub side).
• 03:30PM – 04:30PM – Witness the wonder of Tam-Awan Village , the garden in the Sky.
• 04:30PM – 06:30PM – Lourdes Grotto. Have a 252-step hike to the Lourdes Grotto, and then say a prayer.
• 06:30PM – 7:30PM – Burnham Park. Stroll around, go boating, rent a bike, and buy some souvenirs.
• 07:30PM – 08:30PM – Dinner
• 08:30PM – 10:30PM – Wander around the Session Road and SM City Baguio.
• 10:30PM – Bus back to Manila

They have rooms for two for less than 1,000 pesos. The amenities are fairly basic but the rooms are decent enough.

Day Tour Guide in Baguio City

Before capping off the summer season, it wouldn’t be complete without heading to the Summer Capital of the Philippines – Baguio City! Had Beach Tour and escapade over my Summer 2016 so I’d finally decided to go on something different this time.

Good thing about Baguio is its very accessible already if you’re coming from Manila. Food Stall and restaurants are everywhere as well. Plus if you’re planning for a side trip to Sagada or Banaue, Baguio is a best place for you!

In my blog, I’ll be sharing our day tour itinerary we had at Baguio City we tried skipping the usual spots which we are most familiar with and seek in discovering new places and sites to see.

How to go to Baguio :

Victory Liner Buses (Caloocan –Monumento, and Pasay) have the usual Baguio Trips everyday. Trip is around 5 – 7 hours depending on the time and traffic status along the way.

I suggest you try leaving Manila by night time to arrive in Baguio early morning.  It gets a little more traffic if you’re travelling by morning to afternoon too.

As for me and my friends, we decided to use a private vehicle going to Baguio.

Left Bulacan around 4AM and start travelling to Baguio City.

We actually saved much using a private car and share the toll and gas expenses instead, we get to play mind games and bonding along the way.

Touchdown Baguio City at around 9AM. And along the way we went at the Lion’s Head *very popular in Baguio City.

LION’S HEAD

Riding a public bus it usually do not pass thru this route. And I think which is better too, the moment we got at the Lion’s Head there were so many people and tourists already. Series of vans were also parked along the way. Parking was pretty hard and trust me – you won’t get a perfect photo at the Lion’s Head without anyone blocking the view :p lol

There were stores along the area selling different souvenirs, but we decided to skipped that part for now. Just tried the Strawberry Taho which they sell at P20 per cup.

It was the first time I tried it. And it is definitely supppperrrr sweet! Real fruit Strawberry is still in the taho as well.

After heading at the Lion’s Head, we decided to go straight to Bencab Museum.

BENCAB MUSEUM

Parking along the area was pretty hard as well, since there were a lot of tourist on a weekend as well.

Entrance Fee is P120 per person. Cameras are allowed but they do not allow taking videos and monopod or selfie sticks in the museum.

You’ll get to see a lot of beautiful paintings inside the museum. It gets a little crowded at the registration area as tourist really do come and go.

More to see, these are just some of my favorites. AS per the museum staff, Mr. Bencab sometimes drop by the Museum everyday by late afternoon. So we actually expected at some point that may be we could meet him personally though. :p

Plus a very beautiful view just right outside the museum.

Sadly, it started raining when we get there so we just made the most out of what we have inside the museum.

After spending almost 2 hours at Bencab we now headed to our researched most-sought resto places in Baguio 😀 and there goes Café by the Ruins .  Had lunch by 12nn.

WHERE TO EAT : 

Food Food Food! Who wouldn’t want a perfect cozy place to spend your lunch with your friends.

Food looks good and oohhhh so yummy!

By 2PM, we went to see the Minesview Park, Burnham Park and Good Shepherd where we could buy our pasalubong.

These are the usual places and spot to see in Baguio and there were so many tourist and people around the park. Weather in Baguio feels like the usual temperature in Manila hahaha! It was still freaking hot *actually

This view was right beside the Good Shepherd, bought a big jar of Ube and strawberry jams.

*Note :  If you’re also going to buy lengua, peanut brittle and cookies and the like make sure to roam around first as some stores offer cheaper prices for their product 😀

Horseback Riding is available at Mines view Park for those seeking and in to some activity. Horses are for rent for an hour or depending on your preferred usage of the horse back ride.

But for me and my friends we just tried and headed to the near restaurant in the park, Pizza Volante.

Where the resto offers affordable food and drinks especially if you’re just there killing time and bonding with your friends.

After a short coffee break at Pizza Volante, we decided to take good rest at the place we’ll be staying. Lucky for us, one of my friends have a place in Baguio.

We also checked the terminal at Baguio to check for the schedule of the buses that travels to Sagada for our trip the next day.

Rested for a while, and by 7PM we’re ready to eat our dinner this time.

Next stop, 50’s Diner.

With its nice interior and thematic resto feels 50’s diner is an okay food resto.

After a full dinner, it’ll pays to go on shopping in Baguio most especially with the most sought “UKAY-UKAY night market”

A long stretch of ukay-ukay market along the way, from clothing, bags, shoes, scarfs, hats and home accessories and more!! you’ll see everything here. There were also food stall around the market you could enjoy with.

Till around 9pm we were looking around the ukay-ukay and had a short biking adventure hahaha! It was actually pretty late at that time and the owner does not allow it anymore since they were starting to close, but my friend Jessey pleaded even for 30 minutes. And she was successful! We had a short bike ride as well. Haha! And the owner did not asked for a payment anymore.

Went back in our place around 10pm.

It started getting cold by night already and we were busy fixing everything for our next day super early trip to Sagada.

We made sure we rested early to get enough energy as well.

On our way back home to Manila.

We boarded at Victory Liner in Baguio City as well. But since it was Monday, there were so many passengers at that time (some of my friends went home by Tuesday and the passengers were just okay) we were at the terminal by 7pm but the bus ride home to Manila will be at 130AM. Lucky for us we had a special trip at 1130PM so that’s where we headed back home.

*Note : If you’re going home on a weekend make sure to book your bus ticket ahead of time. Even before heading to Sagada or should you be staying in Baguio for long.

Since there was still much time to spare we roam around the Session Road in Baguio and tried one of the most sought resto as well at Vizco’s

Should there be one thing I’ll loved about our delayed trip back to Manila that would be the chance we get to try this super special restaurant!

The cakes and the food is soooo delicious, worth every penny and really affordable as well.

We also got the chance to roam around SM Baguio City where it was known for being a mall without being run by an Aircondition :p hahaha! There were souvenirs as well just right outside the mall. So for additional pasalubong before heading to Manila this is a must go to place as well.

Baguio City is like the usual spot we get to see here in Manila. Since it is very accessible for everyone, there were a lot of tourist and so many people too.

The weather is not that too cold right now contrary to what we have been experiencing before when we visit Baguio.

You may also try the boat paddling at the Burnham Park, visit Baguio Museum and more food restos to check out.

Hotel and Inns are also everywhere better to check everything online and book in advance as it gets a little busy over peak seasons and weekends.

As a whole Baguio gets a little and more crowded each time. We planned of visiting La Presa but since it was closed for the public we haven’t got the chance to see it.

It’s one of the best place ti visit on a weekend getaway with your family or friends.

Best Time to Visit Baguio City

The best time to visit Baguio City in the Philippines is typically during the dry season, which runs from November to April. This period offers cooler temperatures and less rainfall than the rest of the year. The city’s high elevation, around 1,540 meters (5,050 feet) above sea level, contributes to its cool climate.

Here’s a breakdown of the seasons and their characteristics in Baguio City:

• Dry Season (November to April): This is the peak tourist season in Baguio. During this time, the weather is generally cool and pleasant, with average temperatures ranging from 15 to 23 degrees Celsius (59 to 73 degrees Fahrenheit). It’s an excellent time to explore the city’s attractions, enjoy outdoor activities, and experience the famous Panagbenga Festival in February.
• Rainy Season (May to October): The rainy season in Baguio City is characterized by frequent rainfall and cooler temperatures. Packaging a raincoat or umbrella if you plan to visit during this time is advisable. While the rain can bring a refreshing atmosphere, it may limit outdoor activities and hinder some sightseeing opportunities.

Remember that Baguio City is a popular tourist destination, especially during weekends and holidays. If you prefer to avoid crowds, consider visiting on weekdays or outside major local holidays. Additionally, checking weather forecasts before your trip is good, as the climate can vary yearly.

The dry season is generally considered the best time to visit Baguio City, offering comfortable temperatures and fewer rain chances.

How to Get There

From manila.

Air-conditioned bus trips to Baguio leave Manila daily on an hourly basis. Popular bus lines en route are Victory Liner, Partas, and Genesis, among others. One way bus ticket would cost you P400 – 450, and the travel time will be approximately 6-7 hours.

Some bus companies like Victory Liner (Deluxe) and Genesis (Joybus) offer luxury bus trips for a non-stop trip to Baguio that will take 3-4 hours. These buses have their own toilets, wifi, two TVs, wider seats that will allow you to recline fully to rest, and snacks and drinks offered by the bus stewardess. The fare rate is around P650 – 720.

If you use your car, it is best to take Marcos Highway to Baguio because it is safer than Kennon Road, which is sometimes closed due to maintenance.

• Bring a wide array of wardrobes as the temperature varies from hot (noon-time) to cold (night-time).
• Beware of pickpockets, especially in crowded places.
• Best to jog in the morning to feel the cool breeze.
• Walking is advised when visiting tourist destinations in the town center because they are actually close to each other and save you money.
• During peak seasons, it is best to have a map (either a paper map or an electronic map) with you if you are not familiar with the places to avoid getting lost while traveling.
• Making an early reservation in hotels is advised to avoid many hassles. If you have a minimal budget for hotel accommodation, transient houses, homestays, and lodges are available city-wide.

BAGUIO CITY TRAVEL GUIDE | Itinerary + Budget + Map [Updated 2022]

Baguio City has been called a lot of things—the City of Pines, the Summer Capital of the Philippines—but what it is, really, is my favorite city in the Philippines. It is arguably the hub of tourism in Luzon, especially during the month-long festivities of the Panagbenga Festival every February. It has the best thrift shopping places with its ukay-ukay stores. A food trip paradise with its numerous restaurants lining Session Road. And a weekend-getaway haven with its numerous tourist spots and general accessibility from Metro Manila. Its year-round cool and temperate weather only adds to its charm as a tourist destination. I know I’m not alone in nominating Baguio City as their favorite city, but if you’re still unconvinced, here’s a travel guide to convert you to become a certified Baguio Junkie.

UNDERSTAND BAGUIO

Baguio City is located in the Cordillera Administrative Region in the Philippines. Geographically, it is located within the province of Benguet, but it has since separated from the province when it became a chartered city. It is classified as a highly urbanized city with a total of 129 barangays. It is bordered on the north by the town of La Trinidad, west by Itogon, and south and east by Tuba. Elevated 1,470 meters above the sea, it was established by the Americans in 1900 as the Summer Capital and a Hill Station--the only one of its kind in the whole of Asia.

WHAT'S THE BEST TIME TO GO TO BAGUIO

It's generally okay to visit Baguio the whole year round, but the best time to go to Baguio depends on what you're looking for out of your trip. If you want to experience the coldest weather in the Philippines, go during the months of November to February. The cold peaks during January where temperature can go down to 6.3 degrees Celsius. If you want to avoid a massive rush of tourists, avoid the Panagbenga Festival dates which usually happen on February. The summer months of March to May can also be a good time to go to Baguio to get a little bit of respite from the heat. Note, however, that the weather can only go down to 25 to 16 degrees, the latter being during the dawn hours. These are the peak months of Baguio, be sure to book your hotels ahead of time and be prepared for the tourist crowd. The rainy months of June to October can be also a romantically beautiful time to go up to Baguio. It does get really cold during these months plus you get to experience a foggy Baguio. I would suggest these for tourists who have visited before—those who need not go to the usual Baguio tourist spots and can trade these for simple strolls around the city with umbrella on hand and long visits to cafes and restaurants. This is also the best time to avoid the crowd.

BAGUIO TRAVELER ESSENTIAL INFO

● Currency is in Philippine Peso. USD 1.00 is about PHP 58.00. ● ATM machines, banks, and money exchange kiosks are readily available and are spread throughout the city. The main hub is around Session Road. ● Type A (two flat vertical pins) is the electrical outlet used in Baguio City ● Always bring a jacket when traveling to Baguio City—it does get cold, even during the summer months. ● Baguio has a score of low when it comes to crime rates. The city is quite safe during the day, and even at night time. During my numerous visits to Baguio, I have never once felt unsafe or have fell victim to any type of crime. ● In cases of emergency and hospitalization, Baguio has a lot of hospitals plus a couple of General Hospitals and Medical Centers.

HOW TO GET TO BAGUIO CITY

Baguio City is located some 250 kilometers from Metro Manila and is elevated 1,450 meters above sea level. Buses are the usual transportation of choice when going to the city and travel time usually clocks in at six hours (from Manila). There used to be flights in and out of the city in years past, but it has been discontinued indefinitely . Flights will resume to Baguio (Loakan Airport) from Cebu starting December 2022. The city can also be accessed through the Ilocos Region and other parts of Luzon through various provincial bus lines and vans.

GETTING AROUND BAGUIO CITY

Jeepneys and taxis are the main modes of transportation in Baguio. Although it can be said that taxi cabs are more prevalent in the city than jeeps. This is probably due to the fact that taking a taxi in Baguio City is very cheap since most don’t need to use their air-conditioning—saving a lot on gas. Cab drivers are also very honest, giving back your change up to the last centavo. Flag down rate is ₱35.00. It’s still, however, cheaper to ride jeeps whether you’re going back to your hotel or some tourist spot in the city. Most tourist destinations in Baguio is, more often than not, accessible via jeepneys. Most of the terminals are located at the Igorot Park, beside Burnham Park, and the streets along the Baguio Public Market. If you’re not familiar with these places, don’t be shy to ask locals where the terminals are for any given destination. Minimum fare is ₱11.00.

SPEAK BAGUIO

Filipino and English are widely spoken in Baguio City but their main language is, surprisingly, Ilocano.  I was under the impression that Ibaloi, which is closely related to Pangasinense (another popular language in the city), or Kankana-ey, which is prevalent in the northern parts of Benguet Province would be more dominant. Here are a few phrases in Ilocano then to help endear yourselves to the locals (especially when haggling at ukay-ukay , lol).

WHERE TO STAY IN BAGUIO CITY

There are uncountable number of lodgings and accommodations in Baguio City. They range from cheap backpacker types to really posh hotels. It would take a dedicated website to list each and every inns, hostels, motels, dorms, homestays and hotels in Baguio City, so I’ll simply list down those where I’ve stayed in. The best area to stay in at Baguio is near Burnham Park since this is where most of good restaurants are in Baguio are. It is also convenient since the jeepney terminals are also just within the area. Granted that most of the big hotels around this area are expensive, you can find cheaper options along the side streets that are still within proximity to the park. And although it’s usually very easy to get a lodging as you arrive in Baguio City, I advise that you book ahead, especially during the busy Panagbenga and Christmas season.

WHERE TO EAT IN BAGUIO CITY

Baguio City is a food-lovers paradise. The city has every cuisine you can think of in every style of restaurants possible. You can dine cheaply on Chinese dishes on one day and splurge on the same dish on a different restaurant the next day. But since you’re in Baguio, might as well chow down on greens more—fresh veggies are quite abundant in the area, making them really affordable. Most restaurants crowd around the Session Road area, but be adventurous and try some out of the way places too. Also, check out curious art cafés that makes dining almost secondary.

From pine-laden parks, to native villages. Horse-riding to boat-paddling. Trail hiking and strawberry pickings. Art museums and haunted houses. One can say that tourism is Baguio City’s middle name.

WHERE TO SHOP & WHAT TO BUY IN BAGUIO CITY

Shopping for pasalubong and keepsakes is part and parcel of visiting Baguio City. One simply cannot go back home without bringing jars of strawberry jams, choco flakes, kinky barrel-man carvings, tacky shirts, keychains, and ref magnets with you. Add the fresh veggies and strawberries that can be bought very cheaply almost everywhere and you’ve got more than you can probably lift back home. You’d definitely run out of space for those walis tambo and giant kutsara at tinidor carvings very quickly if you don’t watch it.

A two-day weekend tour is usually not enough to cover most of the tourist attractions in Baguio City. A three-day itinerary can do it, but for a more relaxed pace, I advise that you extend your vacation to at least five days. Spend those two extra days to visit the PMA grounds and the Balatoc Mines (now closed), or simply walk around the city—try out various restaurants, have coffee at the numerous cafes, and simply enjoy being in Baguio City. The Baguio itinerary I made can be for a day trip, an overnight stay, or a two-night stay. Traveling to Baguio City is not expensive. There are wide range of lodgings to choose from which can suit everyone’s budget. Food is also no problem since restaurants and eateries abound. Getting around is cheap, you can either ride a jeepney or take a cab, which is also surprisingly affordable, or better yet, walk. The city is both good for both budget backpackers and luxury travelers. Along with this Baguio itinerary is a budget guide. It details jeepney fares (most of the jeepney terminals are near Burnham Park or the public market, ask the locals), minimum food cost, and the cheapest room rental cost. Note that I purposely didn’t include the transportation fare of actually going to and from Baguio since that can differ greatly, depending on where you’re coming from. And as always, this budget guide is intended for the absolute minimum one can spend for a three-day Baguio trip based on the itinerary I listed below (not including the restaurants, shopping, and pasalubong).

This blog serves as our guide during our visit in Baguio last weekend. We really enjoyed our trip although we missed some attractions listed like the PMA and Laperal house due to time constraint. Hi Arthur, that would depend on where you would choose to stay. For the food, 200 per meal per person should be more than enough. For transportation, it's about 50 to 100 pesos per transfer to the tourist spots. :)

Hi Lea, I think Baguio Holiday Villas is the perfect place for you. It's walking distance from Burnham Park and price is competitive specially for big groups. They also have a kitchen, so you can cook your own meals and save a bit. For me, commuting to Baguio is always better, more economical. Once in Baguio, you can always take a taxi, which is very cheap compared to the ones in Manila. :)

If you have a bit of a budget, I suggest you stay at the Baguio Holiday Villas (listed above). They have a kitchen so you can save up a bit on food, plus it's near Burnham Park and the public market. :)

Hi, if you have the budget, I'd say go for the Baguio tour package. It is more convenient and will lessen the chances of you wasting time by transferring from one place to the next. The downside is, it would be more expensive. If you're more adventurous, go for the DIY commute to and in Baguio. It is quite easy and relatively cheap to get a taxi in Baguio. Plus you get to stay on each tourist spot in Baguio on your own time. :)

Hi Christian, Sadly the LGU already restricted access to Sto Tomas. There was a directed recently disallowing tourist to go there. Café in the Sky is not operating anymore but they still have the hotel. You can go to that if Café in the Sky will confirm your reservation ahead in the checkpoint after the Green Valley area. It is sad as this is my favorite area in Baguio, Im sure with your masterful hand with the camera, pictures of this place would entice more and more tourist but again sadly, no one can go there anymore except those who live there

I haven't really tried staying at a transient house before, so I can't recommend any. If you're considering a dorm, I've tried AKAP Dormitel, the cheapest I've stayed in so far while in Baguio, but it's one jeepney ride away from Burnham Park

Hi Kathreen, budget for tours, less than a thousand pesos for each if you're gonna do it on your own and just take cabs or die jeepneys. For food, depends really where you're eating. A meal can range from PHP60.00 (carinderia) to about PHP250.00 (famous restaurants) per person.

heya mccoy onkyo606 here.you finally had the chance to get back after more than a year. last time i was in baguio was in feb 2016 traffic was hellish that weekend but we still enjoyed our stay. we will miss another visit this december aswe decided to go further north this time. i will try to do a quick visit though balikan lang. i have been frequenting the place the past 5 years but will neverget tired of it. have you tried eating at tono tono yet? i bet you will keep going back too. i just forgot the exact location but that bulaluhan on your way to mines view is also worth a try.

Yes, it is possible to find an accommodation right there and then, but you might not get the lowest available price. I recommend Hotel 45 for budget walk-ins.

When are you going? Ber months are the best time to go to Baguio, super cold!

the Cheapest to stay in Baguio is at Bab's Transient house for only 250 per night per person where you can cook your own food and free use of utensils and LPG and rice cooker and for your convenience when touring in baguio just negotiate a jeepney driver for the whole day tour for about 2000 -2500 a day.

Ang galing mo po sobrang detalyado. Gusto ko rin sana pumunta dyan ngayong December pero solo lang ako and at the same time medyo kinakabahan kase hindi ko kabisado yong lugar. Hi, I really don't know any tour guide in Baguio. What you can do is load up for an unlimited internet on your phone and use the gps coordinates I posted above so you won't get lost going to Baguio's tourist spots. And, you can also ask people, they're pretty friendly. :)

My husband and I with our 7 years old son will go to Baguio this February 4 to 5, what will be the best itenarary for almost one and a half day? If we leave from Manila at Saturday 6am, we will most likely arrive there at Saturday noon. Makakapaggala kami from that time to 6pm. Then Sunday 7am to 4pm. Hi Cecile, I'm not that familiar with car rentals in Baguio. What you can do is simply flag a taxi and request if they would be okay in renting their cab for the day. Most taxi drivers in Baguio are quite honest, so I don't think you'd have any problem with them. :)

You can switch the itineraries, of course. The Baguio Cathedral is at the center so, it's up to you where to go next after that. I dedicated the second day to the Laperal area and the first day to visit Tam-awan, which is quite isolated. :)

To maximize your Baguio trip, I suggest that you take the midnight bus ride from Manila. You'll arrive in Baguio very early the next day. If your accommodation doesn't allow early check in, just leave your bags at the lobby first :)

The Baguio City that we see today was designed by the Americans, this is why you’ll find some tourist spots here with American names like Camp John Hay and Burnham Park.  After the Spaniards surrendered the Philippines to the United States, they established a hill station in Baguio City because they were beckoned by the  pleasant weather and pine-fringed hills here. But long before the said foreigners arrived here, Baguio City was already inhabited by the Kankana-ey and Ibaloi indigenous peoples of the Cordillera Region, an area known as Kafagway back then.

Fast forward today, Baguio is a melting pot of cultures and where the modern and the traditional thrive and blend beautifully.  Baguio has long been my favorite vacation spot, yes, it’s now pretty crowded especially during holidays and weekends, but it holds a special place in my heart because this is where I traveled during my first solo trip over a decade ago. There’s this good, unexplainable feeling whenever I visit this bustling city.

This is probably the most popular Baguio tourist spot now because it is reminiscent of Japan – from the Bamboo Forest that’ll remind you of Arashiyama Bamboo Forest in Kyoto to the red torrii gate with a hanging bell that is actually a repurposed bomb dropped during the World War II called Mirador Peace Memorial.

Mirador Heritage Park also has limestone rock gardens with glorious pine trees. Here you’ll find the Lourdes Grotto, Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Ifugao Houses, Mirador Peace Memorial, Blue Moon Gate, Cordillera Heritage Garden, and more. The view here of the colorful Baguio houses and buildings is majestic especially during foggy days. This new Baguio tourist attraction is situated in Mirador Jesuit Villa and Retreat House, it’s actually where the classic Baguio attraction – Lourdes Grotto is located.

2. HERITAGE HILL AND NATURE PARK GARDEN (DIPLOMAT HOTEL)

Another famous Baguio tourist spot is Diplomat Hotel or Dominican Hill Retreat House, known by many as a haunted building because of its tragic past.  It’s officially declared as a historic site in 2013.  The Diplomat Hotel was originally designed as a vacation house for the American Friars of Dominican Order, hence the name of the hill.

During the World War II, the building was taken over by the Japanese soldiers, who made it as their barracks. It is said that they raped, tortured, and killed refugees, nuns, and priests.  Eventually, the Americans bombed a portion of the Diplomat Hotel and the Japanese soldiers committed suicide.

In 1973, the Diplomat Hill was acquired and turned into a hotel, managed by Baguio-based businessman Tony Agpaoa.  Unfortunately, he died due to a heart attack.

One of the new Baguio tourist spots that is slowly gaining attraction is the Igorot Stone Kingdom.  This latest park in Baguio, situated along Long-Long Street in Pinsao Proper Village, flaunts the new and old Igorot Culture and tradition as well as the values of the Cordillera People. The towering stone wall is reminiscent of an old-world castle and its key attraction is the tower that portrays the story of Gatan and Bangan of the Igorot Legend.

Among the main attractions at the stone kingdom is a tower that depicts the fantasy story of Gatan and Bangan, an Igorot man and woman who survived the great holocaust, a fertility stone tower, and a Kabunyan (Igorot God) tower.

4. TAM-AWAN VILLAGE

Situated in Pinsao Proper, Tamawan Village is the place to go in Baguio if you don’t have the luxury of time or resources to trek to the remote villages of the Cordillera.  This place was founded by Chanum Foundation Inc. sometime in 1998 as sort of a living museum where visitors can witness and experience a place reminiscent of a traditional Cordillera village.  Here, you’ll find around 7 Ifugao huts (namely, Bangaan Hut, Dukligan Hut, Anaba Hut, Nagor Hut, Batad Hut, and Kinakin Hut)  and 2 Kalinga houses from Bugnay and Luccong, made of indigenous materials such as cogon and pinewood. Tourists can also stay in one of these houses for ₱500 ($10) per person.

If you are an art lover, you’ll be amazed at the interesting local art pieces on display and for sale here.  Tamawan Village has become a haven for workshops and exhibits to foster deeper understanding of the Cordillera heritage.

5. BENCAB MUSEUM – BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS

Bencab Museum is owned by National Artist for Visual Arts – Benedicto Reyes Cabrera, a painter and print maker, who is dubbed as a master of contemporary Philippine arts. Bencab Museum, another must-see tourist attraction in Baguio, is situated in Asin Road with a scenic view of the pine forest, garden, farm, and the surrounding mountains. This contemporary museum houses a collection of his works, and other Filipino contemporary artists. Here, you’ll also find varied indigenous crafts, sculptures, and arts of the Cordilleras. My friend said it’s not as big or jaw-dropping as the Pinto Art Museum, so if you’ve already been there, don’t expect much.

Despite being born in Manila, Benedicto Cabrera has long been fascinated by Baguio and the Cordilleras, where he chose to live and nurture his artistic career. As per the official website of Bencab Museum, this place is committed to the promotion of the arts, and the preservation, conservation, and protection of the environment and the heritage of the Cordillera Region.

Below the museum, you will also find an artsy café, Café Isabel where you can enjoy some drinks and meals.  Take note that outside drinks and food aren’t allowed in the museum premises

6. IFUGAO WOOD CARVER’S VILLAGE

• Entrance Fee: FREE
• Location: Asin Road, Baguio, Benguet
• How to get to Ifugao Carver’s Village: Make your way to the jeepney terminal in Kayang Street  near Baguio City Hall. Ride the jeepney bound for Asin Road. Fare is ₱25 ($0.45).

While you’re in Asin Road, do drop by at the Ifugao Wood Carver’s Village. A 3 km stretch of road along KM 5 oozing with woodcarver shops. Based on anecdotes, the first woodcarvers who settled and made this place known as Ifugao Woodcarver’s Village were the late village chief Reynaldo Lopez-Nauyac and his son Wigan Warren. Both of them are originally from Hapao, Hungduan in Ifugao. So, back in the 70’s and 80’s, woodcarvers from Hapao eventually started transferring to Baguio when they heard that they can earn a living doing woodcarving.  Back then, many tourists from the US Naval base and Japan ordered 6-foot wood carvings of different designs – Buddha, American Indian, warriors, deer hunters, etc. Today, woodcarvers have shifted to furniture making due to the rising condominiums in Baguio.

If you’re looking for bulol (Ifugao rice god), pasiking bag, and other Baguio souvenirs made from wood, bamboo, and rattan, this is the place to be.

7. BURNHAM PARK – BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS

BURNHAM PARK GUIDED TOUR: BOOK HERE

My friend once told me, if you get lost in Baguio, just go back to Burnham Park and you’ll find your way again. Indeed, she’s right. Baguio has always been special to me, as it is my first solo travel destination over a decade ago.  Whenever I feel like getting lost, I travel to Baguio and stroll along Session Road and go people watching in Burnham Park. It may be crowded and chaotic most of the times, especially during weekends and public holidays, but I don’t know why I still feel at peace when I see its timeless beauty.

Burnham Park is situated at the heart of downtown Baguio, fringed by hotels, restaurants, and shops.  It’s an ideal place for a leisurely walk due to its paved walkway. This sprawling park was the brainchild of the eponymous Daniel Burnham, who designed the park when Baguio was first developed as a retreat for the US military due to its cold weather.   You can actually find his statue at the park’s main entrance, enveloped by a rose garden.

The park features a man-made lagoon surrounded by tropical flowers, where visitors enjoy riding and rowing the swan boats.  Also, inside the confines of Burnham Park is Melvin Jones Grand Stadium, fronting the soccer field.  This place is often used as venue for concerts, parades,  political rally, and Panagbenga Festival, Baguio’s biggest festivity.

8. ILILIKHA ARTISTS VILLAGE

Another creation of  Kidlat Tahimik (Eric de Guia), a National Artist for Cinema is Ililikha Artist Village. Situated in Assuption Road. It’s also a restaurant, just like Oh My Gulay café. It’s a good place for photo op, but it’s reserved for customers only. So, please, order food here if you want to take photos. Ililikha Artist Village is made of assorted materials, crafted by many Ifugao artists and wood carvers.

Session Road is divided into 2 areas: Lower Session Road and Upper Session Road . The Lower area is the business hub of Baguio city, fringed with banks, hotels, restaurants, shops, bakeries, and Art Deco buildings. It runs eastward from Magsaysay Street near Malcolm Square through Baguio Cathedral and Governor Pack Road. Meanwhile, the Upper area runs from the Post Office Loop and SM Baguio to Baguio Country Club, Camp John Hay, PMA, and Itogon’s mine areas.

11. SM BAGUIO

I don’t usually include shopping malls on places to visit, but SM Baguio has the Sky Terrace that offers one of the best sunset views in Baguio.  SM Baguio is also the first SM Supermall that doesn’t use an air-conditioning system upon its completion.

12. SKY RANCH BAGUIO

Located just beside SM Baguio is Sky Ranch Baguio, an amusement park that offers carnival games and thrilling rides such as Super Vikings, Sky Cruiser, Red Barron, Flying Bus, etc. You can book tickets in advance below to skip the lines.

13. baguio street arts (baguio murals).

Baguio is home to massive, dramatic painted murals showcasing the people and culture of the Cordillera region. The famous ones are part of Project Hila-Bana Mural, mostly created by Venazir Martinez, a young Filipina visial artist who believes in the power of street art as an additional learning tool for the local culture bearers. You can find one of the Project Hila-Bana Mural at PNR Compound where jeepneys are parked. It’s just across the Victory Bus Terminal in Baguio.

You can also find Baguio murals at the façade of Tam-awan Village, Magsaysay Avenue, and inside  UP Baguio.

This historic house is inspired my American colonial architecture. It was named after General Franklin Bell who converted Camp John Hay into a military resort.  This modest building served as the residence of the Commanding General of the Philippines.

The Bell House is embraced by a garden, a pine forest, and the Bell Amphitheater, a beautifully manicured garden with concentric circles as steps.  Interestingly, these steps was designed using indigenous Ifugao terracing technology.

Don’t miss the totem pole with the heads of the figures of Admiral George Dewey, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Secretary John Milton Hay, William Cameron Forbes, President Theodore Roosevelt, General Franklin Bell, Lieutenant Colonel L.W.V Kennon, Mayor E.J Halsema, General Douglas MacArthur, and Major Angelito Hernandez, the men from Camp John Hay who shaped Baguio. This fascinating history lesson totem pole was created by Ernesto Dul-ang, it’s right before the entrance to the Bell Amphitheater.

15. CEMETERY OF NEGATIVISM

While you are in Camp John Hay, don’t miss the Cemetery of Negativism or the Lost Cemetery.  It’s a unique kind of cemetery as no dead person is buried here, instead, it’s meant to remind people to bury their negative traits.  It was established by the former commanding general John Hightower sometime in 1980. The cemetery is not really eerie, it is beautifully surrounded by towering pine trees and just walking distance to the age-old Bell House.

One of the reminders engraved on the stone marker here is:

“Negativism is man’s greatest self-imposed infliction, his most limiting factor, his heaviest factor.”

16. CAMP JOHN HAY – BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS

• How to get to Camp John Jay: Ride the jeep bound for Scout Barrio, Loakan, or Kias-PMA, fare is roughly ₱13 ($0.23).  Their jeepney terminal is situated at the east side of Burnham Park across Tiong-San Department Store, Harrison Road. Best to ride a taxi though, as it is more convenient. I paid less than ₱100 ($1.80) to get there by cab.

Camp John Hay is synonymous to Baguio and one of the best tourist spot in the pine city.  This place is surrounded by pine trees and serves as a forest watershed reservation. It was established by the Americans as a military reservation on a site owned by Ibaloi leader Mateo Cariño. During the World War II, the Japanese warplanes bombed the gates of Camp John Hay.  Later on, it became the headquarters of General Tomoyuki Yamashita during the Japanese occupation.  It is here where Yamashita surrendered. After the devastating war, Camp John Hay was transformed into an airbase by the American forces, until it was returned to the Philippines. Today, Camp John Hay is undoubtedly one of the most scenic tourist spots in Baguio.

17. LAPERAL WHITE HOUSE

The longstanding Laperal House is believed to be a haunted house, that is why is it usually featured on popular TV shows.  Constructed in the 1930’s by Roberto Laperal, it is built of narra and yakal wood and exhibits a Victorian architectural flair.   It used to be a vacation house of the Laperal family until it was occupied by the Japanese soldiers during the World War II and used as a barracks. It is alleged that the warriors tortured many spies and raped many women here, leading to the rumors of the ghost sightings, who are purportedly the victims

18. BAGUIO BOTANICAL GARDEN

A classic tourist spot in Baguio City is the Botanical Garden, also called Centennial Park.  At the entrance, you’ll be welcomed  by the amazing bronze sculpture featuring the Cordillera indigenous people, the Chinese, the Japanese, and the Americans working together.  This masterpiece was crafted by Ben-hur Villanueva, a Filipino Artist.  There’s not much to do here, but it offers a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of Baguio City.  As the name suggests, this place is sprinkled by plants and surrounded by pine trees.  It also houses an Art Gallery and souvenirs stalls.

19. WRIGHT PARK AND THE MANSION

• Horseback Riding: ₱ 300 ($5.39) per hour or ₱200 ($3.60) per 30 minutes

Wright Park is known for its horse-back riding for beginners, it’s an age-old tourist spot in Baguio.  Here, you’ll find stables full of colorful horses taken care by the “Pony Boys”, horse owners.   You can try riding one for beginners for ₱300 ($5.39) per hour or ₱200 ($3.60) per 30 minutes. This park is clad by pine trees and plants, don’t miss the canal where the water reflects the pine trees.

Right across Wright Park is The Mansion.  This massive summer place for The President sits beautifully in a well-manicured lawn.  Going inside is no longer allowed, but can take souvenir photos outside.

20.MINES VIEW PARK

Several activities, souvenir shops, and silver stores have sprung up here, including the popular photo op with the St. Bernard dogs and colorful horses. Only accredited dogs of the members of the Mines View St. Bernard Dog Association are allowed to ensure the safety of dogs and visitors. You can also rent a traditional Cordillera outfit like headdress, bahag , vest, and spear and have your photo taken with Itogon mountains as backdrop

21.GOOD SHEPHERD BAGUIO

• How to get to Good Shepherd Baguio: Ride a Baguio – Plaza – Mines View jeepney at  Gov.Pack Road. Fare is about ₱13 ($0.23) and travel time is about 10 minutes.  Alternatively, you can take a taxi from downtown Baguio for around ₱100 ($1.80).

After a visit to Mines View Park, make time for Good shepherd Baguio nearby.   This convent is pretty popular for its delicious food products especially the best-selling Good Shepherd ube jam.   The production of this sought-after ube jam started sometime in 1976   when Sister Fidelas Atienza, as suggested by a friend, started making ube halaya similar to that of Tantamco’s, the original maker of ube halaya in Baguio.  As time goes by, she perfected it and student workers started helping stir the ube. Nowadays, they are said to use machines for easier processing, but the ube jam undoubtedly remains mouth-watering, and one of the best souvenirs from Baguio.

22.BAGUIO FOOD TRIP

Don’t miss trying out the artsy local restaurants while you are here, it’s definitely one of the top things to do in Baguio! It may not be known as a food haven like Pampanga or Cebu, etc., but since it’s a melting pot of cultures, you’ll be pleasantly surprised if you go on a food trip.  I’ll create a separate blogpost, probably in the future, but to give you an idea, some of the best known restaurants here includes: Good Taste,  Café by the Ruins, Maeve Café at Ilikha Artist Village, The Farmer’s Daughter, Grumpy Joe, Foggy Mountain Cookhouse, among others.

23.BELL CHURCH 

• Opening Hours: 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM, 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM
• How to get there: Ride the jeepney bound for La Trinidad at the jeepney terminal.  Get off at the jumping off point to the Bell Church, near the border of Baguio City and La Trinidad. It’s near the Valley of Colors (Stabosa Colorful Houses). Fare is roughly ₱25 ($0.45). Walk for a few minutes to Bell Church.

If you are headed to Stabosa Colorful House (Valley of Colors) or to La Trinidad Baguio, the jeep that you’ll take will pass by the Bell Church.  Thus, you can drop by at this distinctly Chinese Buddhist temple on your way there or on your way back to Baguio city.

The Bell Church is an old temple established in 1960 by the Chinese immigrants from Guangzhou (formerly Canton, China) headed by Ng Pee. It is situated in Brgy.Balili La Trinidad, Benguet, near the border of Baguio City.

I remember visiting Baguio over a decade ago, and I told myself I wanted to see something different, so I went to the Bell Church. When I first set foot on its ground, I feel like being transported to a different place. Everywhere I look it’s distinctly Chinese, the ornate pailou, the towering pagoda, the dragons, and the images of Buddhas and saints.

  24. STOBOSA COLORFUL HOUSES (Colors of Stobosa)

  When you visit Baguio and Benguet, you’ll most likely notice the house-fringed hills that clad the city.  A rising tourist destination is Stobosa, composed of 3 sitios: Stonehill, Botiw-tiw, and Sadjap in Brgy.Balili, La Trinidad. The site is now referred to as the Colors of Stobosa, known for its colorful houses, which is somehow inspired by the Favelas of Rio de Janiero in Brazil.  The solar artist Jordan Mang-osan led a team of Tam-Awan Vilage artists, including Ged Alangui, Jenny Lorenzo, and Clinton Aniversaryo with the help of the DOT Cordillera Region and Davis Paint to revitalize the area as part of the RevBloom (revitalize and bloom) campaign.  They painted almost all the houses (except for the original blue house) here as if it is one big mural as homage to what they believe as the area of origin of mountains of sunflowers and limestone rock formations.  The residents here hoped that through this, their livelihood will be boosted.

25. LA TRINIDAD STRAWBERRY FARM

• Strawberry Picking : ₱700 ($12.51) per kilo
• How to get to La Trinidad Strawberry Farm : Make your way to Shuntag Road in front of Baguio City Hall. Ride the jeepney en route to La Trinidad and tell the driver to drop you off at La Trinidad Strawberry Farm. Fare is ₱30 ($0.54) per person. Alternatively, you may take a cab from Baguio City to La Trinidad Strawberry Farm for roughly ₱160 ($2.88) – ₱200 ($3.60), good for 3-4 persons.

Baguio is the first place in the Philippines known for strawberries that are grown in Benguet.  Strawberry picking is one of the top things to do when in Baguio and Benguet.  The La Trinidad Strawberry Farm is situated in Brgy.Betag, a high altitude place, best for growing strawberries. It is actually owned by the Benguet State University who leases the land to farmers for strawberry cultivation.  Lettuce and other vegetables are also grown here.  You can go strawberry picking for ₱500 ($10) per kilo.

The best months to for strawberry picking in Benguet are November to February when strawberries are ripe for picking.  March is also a good time to visit since it’s the month when the locals celebrate the Strawberry Festival.

Also, you can buy strawberry product souvenirs here like Strawberry wines and jams, and other Baguio souvenirs.

26. PANAGBENGA FESTIVAL

The Panagbenga Festival is where you’ll witness street parades with participants clad in their native costumes or flower costumes. Don’t miss the highlight of the festivity which is the Panagbenga float parade when massive floats flaunt the streets of Baguio.

27. NORTHERN BLOSSOM FLOWER FARM

If you have the luxury of time, you can make a side trip to Northern Blossom Park from Baguio, which is situated in Brgy. Sayangan in Atok, Benguet.  This place is peppered with colorful flowers rarely seen in most parts of the Philippines.  The view of the surrounding massif here will make you feel alive and appreciate nature more.

28. mt. ulap.

If you’re the adventurous type you can go climb Mt.Ulap, a perfect day hike from Baguio. It’s about 1 hour away from downtown Baguio by public jeepney to Ampucao, Itogon, Benguet. It is dubbed as a beginner’s hike with 3/10 difficulty level. However, according to beginner hikers who have tried climbing this beauty, it’s not an easy feat. It may take 4-11 hours to hike Mt. Ulap depending on your endurance. You can climb Mt.Ulap DIY but you can also join a group hike though the link below.

29.mt. pulag.

Mt. Pulag National Park is a sacred mountain inhabited by different indigenous groups such as the Ibalois, Ifugaos, Karao, Kankana-eys, and Kalayunga. It is the highest mountain in Luzon Philippines, and the 3 rd highest in the country. It is under 2 administrative jurisdiction: Cordillera and Cagayan.

Mt. Pulag is pretty popular for its “Sea of Clouds”, and is dubbed as the “Playground of the Gods”.  It is pretty scenic because this mountain features vast grasslands, mossy forest, pine forest, and its slopes are covered by dwarf bamboos.

There are 4 major trails to Mt. Pulag summit: Ambangeg, Akiki, Tawangan, and Ambaguio (via Nueva Vizcaya). If you’re a beginner, Ambangeg is the recommended trail.

While you are in Baguio, you can take a side trip to Bokod, Benguet. This sleepy town is home to scenic tourist spots such as Ambuklao Lake and Dam, Daclan Sulfur Spring, and Jang Jang Bridge. For a hassle free tour of Boko, you can join a group tour below.

Other baguio tourist spots, 32.ifugao woodcarver’s village.

While tourists usually know Asin Road for Bencab Museum, sculpture lovers flock here for the Ifugao Woodcarver’s Village, also called Itogon Woodcarver’s Village.  Based on anecdotes, the history of Ifugao woodcarving traces its roots in the village of Hapao in Hungduan. But after the World War II, due to the increasing demands of foreign tourists to take home local handicrafts, five migrants from Hungduan and Banaue migrated here and brought some Ifugao woodcarvers. Thus, the Ifugao Woodcarver’s Village was born.  Most of the woodcarver’s shops are concentrated along Asin Road. Here, you can buy high quality Ifugao sculptures, wood craft, and other local handcrafted products.  The woodcarver’s can also made to order goods.

Interestingly, they also celebrate the Pa-ot Festival in Asin Road to celebrate the Ifugao woodcarvers’ skills in creating, as well as honor the old Asin Munpa-ot (carvers).  The residents here dance the streets during the festivity wearing their crafts, like spears, shields, and carved fertility statues.

33. MARY KNOLL ECOLOGICAL SANCTUARY

• Entrance Fee: ₱75 ($1.35)
• Open Hours: Daily 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
• Location: #25 North Santo Tomas Road, Baguio, Benguet
• How to get there: Make your way to Igorot Park and ride a jeepney with Campo Sioco sign. Tell the driver you drop you off at Mary Knoll Ecological Sanctuary. Fare is roughly ₱13 ($0.26). Alternatively, you can also take a taxi, far is roughly ₱65 ($1.17) to ₱80 ($1.44), and travel time is approximately 10 minutes.

This timeless green sanctuary in Baguio aims to restore and preserve nature. A leisurely walk here will take you the 14 Stations of the Cosmic Journey, which aims to tell the story of how the universe was created.

34.UNCLE SAM’S AGRI-TOURISM PARK

This new Baguio tourist attraction is located between the borders of Baguio and Tuba, Benguet. It is oozing with stone sculptures, artworks, and greenery.

• Open Hours: Tuesday to Sunday 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM, 3 hours maximum stay
• Location: KM5 Asin Road, Baguio City
• How to get to Uncle Sam’s Farm Baguio : Head to the jeepney terminal at Kayang, near Julie’s Bakeshop and Panadero. Ride the jeepney with a signage KM6 Asin Road, Baguio City “Cinco”. Tell the driver to drop you at the first checkpoint. Uncle Sam’s Farm is about 10 minute walk from the highway.

35.PINE TREES OF THE WORLD PARK

This place was initially planned to be planted with different varieties of pine trees, hence the name “Pine Trees of the World Park”.  It’s not as famous as the Camp John Hay Eco-Trail, but it is also home to towering pines trees. And this is pretty easy to reach as it is near UP Baguio and Museo Kordilyera.

36. BAGUIO MUSEUM

  The charming Baguio Museum’s architecture is inspired by the traditional Ifugao house is another famed Baguio tourist attraction. It was built in 1975 and situated at the corner of Governor Pack Road and Harrison Road.  Baguio Museum houses a variety of artifacts originating from the 6 provinces of the Cordilleras (Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Kalinga, Ifugao, and Mountain Province) as well as Ifugao artworks and woodcarvings and exhibits. Ernesto Dul-ang is Baguio Museum’s resident wood carver, some of his great works include that can be found here are “The Surrender of General Tomoyuki Yamashita”, the totem pole of the Mayors who assisted in the development of the Baguio Museum, and the dioramas at the entrance of the Museum.

37. MUSEO NG KORDILYERA

  Located inside UP Baguio is the Museo ng Kordilyera, which aims to cultivate understanding for the Indigenous People of the Cordillera and Northern Luzon. Displayed here are artifacts from the Cordillera region, and contributions from Bencab Museum, Baguio Museum, Saint Louis University Museum, and UP Baguio Library and Archives.

38. BAGUIO CATHEDRAL (OUR LADY OF ATONEMENT CATHEDRAL)

The famed pink Romanesque revival-inspired church with twin spires and belfry is one of the top Baguio tourist spots.  Baguio Cathedral  stands proudly on Mount Mary Hill, formerly called Kampo.  This biggest church in the city is dedicated to Our Lady of the Atonement. It survived the bombing back in 1945 and served as an evacuation center during that time, thereby saving many lives.

39.UKAY-UKAY

• Open Hours: Depends on each shop, but usually they’re open until 8:00 PM only.
• Location: Along Session Road and Harrison Road
• Nearby Baguio Tourist Spots: Session Road, Burnham Park, Baguio Cathedral, Oh My Gulay

One of the top things to do in Baguio to to go to ukay-ukay or wagwagan. Many thrift shops mushroomed over the years around and near its central business district, offering cheap clothes, jackets, shoes, toys, bags, etc. My go to ukay-ukay shops in Baguio are located at the corner of F.Calderon along Session Road . This place is quite clean compared to other shops, but the apparels are quite expensive compared to the usual ukay-ukay, perhaps because of its popularity.

Bayanihan along Shanum Street is also a pretty famous  ukay-ukay haven. Most of the products here are upscale, so expect the price to be quite expensive compared to the usual ukay-ukay prices.

Another great place to shop for ukay-ukay are the shops around U-need Supermart along San Perfecto Street corner Session Road , it’s fronting Malcolm Square

40. BAGUIO NIGHT MARKET

• Open Hours: 09:00 PM to 2:00 AM
• Location: Harrison Road, Benguet
• Nearby Baguio Tourist Spots: Burnham Park, Baguio Cathedral, Oh My Gulay

About 1,081 stalls open from 9:00 PM to 02:00 AM along Harrison Street, it is popularly known as Baguio Night Market and a key tourist attraction in Baguio City. It is a popular tourist attraction in the city where vendors sell old and new apparels, goods, decors, and food at reasonable prices. It was founded about a decade ago as a means for the traders who don’t have stalls to earn a living. But recently, officials of the city are thinking of relocating it, because of the heavy traffic it causes.

41. BRIDAL VEILS FALLS

There’s a waterfall in Baguio? Yes. It’s found along Kennon Road, so if you’re using a private vehicle, you might want to drop by the Bridal Veils Falls.  It’s a few steps away from the highway via a metal  hanging bridge.  The waterfalls is quite tall, and makes for a great photo op.

 HOW TO GET TO BAGUIO

1.From Manila, take a bus bound for Baguio. Victory Liner has buses to Baguio from Cubao and Pasay. Alternatively, you may also take Genesis Bus or Joy Bus to Baguio. Regular Aircon Express bus fare from Baguio to Cubao is roughly ₱626 ($11.14), while from Pasay to Baguio bus fare is around ₱640 ($11.39). See Victory Liner Bus fare below.

VICTORY LINER BUS FARE  (Cubao to Baguio)

*If you are traveling on a Friday night or over the weekend via Victory Liner, make sure you buy your ticket in advance as the line can get pretty long.  It took us 2.5 hours as chance passenger to ride the bus to Baguio. Otherwise, go to the other bus companies like Genesis and Joy Bus, they also have terminals in Cubao and Pasay.

If you are traveling in group, you may want to consider renting a van to Baguio from Manila, Tagaytay, La Union, Baguio, and more.

If you want a hassle-free tour of Baguio, there are several  DOT-accredited tour operators in Baguio. It is best to book a tour with them. If your time is limited,  you can also book a day tour from Manila to Baguio. SEE THE TOURS ABOVE THIS BLOG UNDER BAGUIO TRIP ESSENTIALS.

BAGUIO BY TAXI

Touring by taxi in Baguio is also a good option,  that’s because taxi drivers in Baguio are generally honest, they would use the meter and give you the exact exchange.  The current flag down rate is roughly ₱40 ($0.72) for the first 500 meters, with ₱2 ($0.040) per 100 meter increments thereafter.  Baguio taxi tour rate depends on how many hours you plan to tour Baguio.  Usual rate per day now for hiring a taxi in Baguio for 1 day is ₱3,500 ($62.94) to ₱4,000 ($71.93)  that’s good for 3-4 people and tour is from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

BAGUIO BY JEEPNEY

It is possible to get around in Baguio by jeepney. The starting rate for the classic jeepney is ₱13 ($0.23).  This is good if you want to do a DIY Baguio Travel, but make sure you know the Baguio jeepney routes (which is quite confusing) to avoid getting lost.  There’s also the airconditioned jeep now in Baguio but I haven’t tries riding it yet.

You can also hire a jeepney in Baguio to see some of the new Baguio tourist spots, as well as the classic destinations if you are a large group, say group of 10 or more. There’s a jeepney terminal just outside Victory Liner, you may ask the drivers for per day rate.

WHERE TO STAY IN BAGUIO

Baguio is peppered with hotels for all types of budget. I recommend staying near Burnham Park or Session Road as it is near to most establishments.  But many of the newer hotels in Baguio are located outside the downtown area. Anyway, it’s easy to get to the city center via taxi or Grab, fare here is pretty cheap. And also, most taxi drivers in Baguio are honest. They will really give you an exact change.

Stayed in Sotogrande Hotel last time. This is a new hotel. Room has enough space to move around. Their breakfast buffet is pretty generous. They have an in-house restaurant, and I like their crispy pata, pizza and pasta. For dessert, try their sansrival cake.

Baguio City is known as the erstwhile Summer Capital of the Philippines and famed as one of the liveliest student towns in the country. It’s also beloved of domestic travelers because it offers a great escape from the balmy heat of the Manila lowlands and the sunbaked beaches of Cebu and Boracay and the like. It might not come with white sands and turquoise seas, but there are epic hiking paths and waterfalls, oodles of history and vibrant inner-city neighborhoods to get through.

That’s mainly because the weather up in the hills of northern Luzon can be a little unpredictable, so you might want to swap out the outdoorsy things for more rain-friendly pursuits. That said, we’d recommend avoiding the months of July and August altogether – they are just too wet!

Day 1 – Finding your feet in the city of Baguio

The start of our ultimate Baguio itinerary is all about finding your feet in this buzzing city. We’ll assume you’re staying somewhere near the center. But, before heading out, breakfast…stroll up steep Upper Session Road to find the acclaimed Hill Station . It’s a charming café-bistro strewn with prayer flags and done out in colonial-era styles, offering a morning menu of Belgian waffles with views over the famous Baguio pine forests.

Find A Travel Buddy!

From there, walk down to the much-loved green space at the core of the downtown. It’s known as Burnham Park after the groundbreaking American urban planner Daniel Burnham, the man who actually designed the whole layout of the city after it was elevated to summer capital status by the occupying Americans in the early 1900s.

The park is a great place to spend a whole morning. It’s broken into 12 various areas, known as clusters. There’s the Burnham Lake (also called the Burnham Lagoon) at the center of it all, where you can rent pedal boats and drift around above the carps. There’s the Avong Ibaloi Heritage Garden, designed to honor and preserve the cultures of the indigenous people of Benguet Province. There’s also an arboretum called the Pine Trees of the World, although many of the imported pines failed to take root, so only local ones still stand.

Later on, drift over to the eastern side of the park and hop the jeepney-filled roads to find the Our Lady of Atonement Cathedral. It’s better known as, simply, Baguio Cathedral, and it’s the most important Christian site in the city. It’s not actually that old, dating back to 1920. However, it sports a pretty pink-and-blue exterior with soaring spires.

For dinner, walk a few streets further up the hill to find Grompy Joe. It’s a strange mix of Americana, Italiano, and Spanish food , perfectly summing up the range of modern influences on the city. So, settle in for a slider or a pizza and get ready for tomorrow…

Day 2 – Museums, culture, and markets

Day 2 is given over to museums and galleries. It’s not only the best day for culture vultures, but also has plenty for the rainier days of your holiday. There’s no need to rush in the morning. We’d recommend stopping by the top-rated eatery of Tsokolateria Artisinal Café. The folk there serve up some outrageously good cakes and hand-cooked waffles – perfect for keeping your exhibition energy up.

It’s not far from that breakfast venue to the Baguio Museum, either. This one’s the premier place for learning about the unique and rich past of the city and the surrounding region. Even the building in which its housed is built in the style of age-old Ifugao architecture. Inside, there are collections of relics sourced from various tribal groups across the Philippine Cordillera, along with reconstructed models of highland villages and homes.

Next up is Museo Kordilyera (sometimes called the UP Baguio Ethnographic Museum). It’s situated in the city’s university campus and hosts regular live shows of traditional dancing and song run by indigenous peoples from the Cordillera Region. The exhibits themselves change about twice a year but are always dedicated to chronicling the past and heritage of northern Luzon.

When night creeps in, make for the buzz of Baguio Night Market. It’s on the northern side of Burnham Park, where it opens at 9pm on weekdays and 7.30pm on weekends in a real cacophony of stalls selling all sorts, from sneakers to socks to salty fried snacks. Talking of snacks…the street food at the market is the best in the city, so foodies eat your hearts out!

Day 3 – Hiking in Pulag National Park

No ultimate Baguio itinerary could possibly skip out on this one. Yep, the Pulag National Park is one of the great natural jewels of Luzon as a whole. It encircles the highest peak on the island (the third highest in the country, no less) and encompasses a whole patchwork of various habitats and climatic zones, from subtropical highlands to subpolar summits. It’s a must for any adventurous travelers hitting this corner of the Philippines.

Of course, the main reason to come is to hike Mount Pulag itself. It’s actually one of the more accessible treks in Southeast Asia (nowhere near as hard as Rinjani in Lombok, or Mount Agung in Bali , for example). However, the route to the top does take a minimum of two days. That’s on the shortest route, known as the Ambangeg Trail, involving a transfer out of Baguio in the morning, one hiking session of 4-6 hours on the first day, and then a summit push of 1-2 hours, finishing with a descent on the second day.

The way up is riddled with interesting things. You’ll start on breezy tussock plateaus clad in brown grass fields. Before long, the temperature will drop a little and the flora will change considerably, offering glimpses of moss-clad montane forests and blooming bushes of beautiful ayusep flowers.

The best way to plan a hike up to the top of Mount Pulag is to pick an organized tour with a reputable company. They often sort the whole shebang, from registration at the local national park office (compulsory) to hiking meals and all the gear – think sleeping bags, tents, walking poles. Just be warned that hikes can be canceled at the last minute because of sudden changes in the weather.

Day 4 – From Pulag back to town

If Day 3 all went to plan, then you should be enjoying the sunrise over the summit of Mount Pulag (yep, it’s an early start!) after pushing up to the top of the great Luzon peak. What awaits at the pinnacle is one of the most jaw-dropping sights in the whole of the Philippines. They call it the Sea of Clouds, because soft, white tufts of water vapor often spread all around the highest point of Pulag, creating a blanket of clouds that rolls away to the horizon.

After that, it’s another four hours or so descent to the bottom of the mountain, where you can catch a jeepney or private minivan back to Baguio City. The ride is about 2.2 hours in all, so don’t expect to get back to your hotel before mid-afternoon at the very earliest. However, the trip is a pretty cool one, as you weave and wiggle on S-bending roads through the lush Philippine mountains. A potential pitstop at the Ambuklao Dam View Deck can be made roughly halfway, to see one of the region’s most impressive feats of engineering work.

When you return to town, make for Upper Session Road and seek out the North Haven Spa. It’s one of the highest-rated wellness facilities in the city, and we think you’ve earned a little pampering. Guests are served soothing herbal teas on arrival and can choose from a whole range of aromatherapy massages to help get the muscles back into shape.

Day 5 – Gardens and mountain greenery around Baguio City

Rise as early as you can and make for the area of Camp John Hay. Once an American GI base back in the 20s and 30s, it’s now a huge portion of the city and something of an adventure park-country club combo. Golfers should be certain to book onto the onsite course for a round – it’s championship-level and was designed by Jack Nicklaus, no less.

Not one for drivers and irons? No worries – there’s loads more to do. Take the Yellow Trail Hike. It’s a 2-hour up and down path that goes right through the famous pine forests of Baguio, offering a great escape from the sound of the tooting jeepneys in the city below. Or, there’s more adrenaline-pumping activity at Camp John Hay, in the form of canopy ziplines and skywalk treks over high-perched suspension bridges.

After a morning of explorations there, head just north to the Mines View Observation Deck. It’s one of Baguio’s most impressive lookout points, taking in a sweeping bowl in the Cordillera and the overgrown remains of old mining areas. It’s also close by to the Baguio Bamboo Sanctuary, a place where you can walk paths between soaring shoots of East Asian bamboo.

The Baguio Botanical Garden awaits on the way back to the downtown of the city. It’s also worth a pitstop if you have the time, what with its Japanese shrines and meditation areas, along with blooms of lilies and rare tropical flowers.

After the ultimate Baguio Itinerary – where to go?

The truth is that most people don’t linger here to complete a full Baguio itinerary. Aside from being a great place to base yourself for hikes to the top of Mount Pulag, the town is mainly seen as a steppingstone to the more-famous reaches of northern Luzon. They include the backpacker havens of Sagada and Kalinga, along with the photogenic rice terraces of Banaue. All of those are great options for carrying on the adventure once you’re finished with our travel plan.

About Baguio City: The Summer Capital of The Philippines

Baguio City, also known as the Summer Capital of the Philippines OR the City of Pines, is a city in the province of Benguet and is one of the most in-demand destination. Whether you are solo traveling, traveling with a group/family or partner, Baguio is the perfect place!

Moreover, it is particularly a go-to destination in summer due to its cooler weather.

Best Time to Visit Baguio City

Although Baguio is a year-round destination, it’s still best to avoid the monsoon when you go here.  The months where most rain-shower comes are the months of July-October . Furthermore, there are some cases when early rain-shower comes by mid June.

For less crowded months,  April and May are less touristy  since it’s the hottest months of the year in Baguio City. While on the other hand, the most touristy month is December to February during holiday season.

Best time to come here if you’re looking for the coldest weather is as early as November to February.

How to Get to Baguio City?

The usual travel time to Manila is 5-6 hours depending on which part of Manila you are coming from. Regular buses usually have 1 stopover and take NLEX or SCTEX. Insider tip: if you want faster transport to Baguio with no stopovers, book P2P buses with Pangasinan Solid north Transit.

From Manila, there are daily buses from Cubao, Pasay, Caloocan, PITX and Sampaloc that goes to Baguio City. The usual bus lines that offers this route are Victory Liner, Genesis and Solid North. There are daily and hourly schedules depending on the bus companies. The usual fare will range from PHP700-800.00.

How to Get Around in Baguio City DIY Way

Getting around Baguio City is neither hard nor tricky. Almost all destinations are literally walking distance or 5 minutes away from one destination to the other. You can ride a jeepney , walk , charter a taxi or rent a private car/van .

Special Events & Activities

Panagbenga festival.

The Panagbenga Festival of Flower Festival is one of the most famous festivals in the Philippines. It is held every month of February in the summer capital of the Philippines. One of the activities you should not be missing during the festival is the flower float parade where local Philippine artists are invited to celebrate the festival with the locals and tourists.

Another is the Session in Bloom that only opens every month of February in honor of the festival month. The Session Road is being closed and various stores and food outlets are opened here. Look out for foot-long hotdogs and shawarma rice during the Session in Bloom!

Christmas Villages

During the month of December , Christmas Village opens as well. The Manor and Baguio Country Club has a Christmas Village event and there’s an entrance fee of approximately PHP200.00 per person. In here, they create artificial snow and a theme of a Christmas Village. Alternatively, Burnham Park has its own Christmas Village and it’s FREE admission.

Lantern Parade

Another special event that happens every December 1st is the Lantern Parade by the Saint Louis University – my Alma mater. This is a parade of colorful lanterns in different colors, shapes and sizes partnered with the students’ colorful costumes.

Places to Visit (Expenses + How to get there)

Now that we have mentioned above all the necessary pre-travel guide and preparations you need to know before your trip to Baguio, below are the list of places to visit! A word of advise, better allow 2-3 days stay in Baguio City. I know that most tour agencies offer a day trip in Baguio but that is surely not satisfying at all. Most especially if you really like to explore the summer capital of the Philippines.

Mirador Hill & Lourdes Grotto

The Mirador Hill is a 5-hectare Japanese inspired garden located just beside the Lourdes Grotto. And for the longest time, this garden had only been regarded to as the place beside the grotto. Nowadays, the Mirador Hill became an in demand tourist destination because of its beautiful and scenic panoramic view of the city.

Moreover, it is regarded to as the “ Little Japan ” in Baguio City because of the bamboo forest and the iconic Mirador Peace Memorial on top of the hill.

Stone Kingdom

The controversial Stone Kingdom has led so many tourists into this place for quite some time now. It is a place where you can admire the culture of the Igorots , ethnic group in the Cordillera Administrative Region. Sky Ranch Baguio

The theme park in Baguio City that sits just beside SM Mall is Sky Ranch Baguio. Never miss the chance to feast your eyes on the lovely panoramic view of The Summer Capital by riding the towering Baguio Eye.

Baguio Cathedral

One of the famous Catholic Church in Baguio is Our Lady of the Atonement Cathedral, better known as Baguio Cathedral. It is located in Upper Session Rd. just ear SM Baguio.

Burnham Park

The oldest and most beautiful park in Baguio is the Burnham Lake Park. It’s a man-made park with a lake. They say that you’ve never really been to Baguio without riding boats in the park’s lake. Other things you can do here is to rent bicycles, watch kids playing soccer in Melvin Jones, buy a strawberry flavored taho , get a henna tattoo, roller skates and many more!

Diplomat Hotel

This tourist destination rose to fame around 2016 after being featured in TV episodes of Rated K and Jessica Soho. The reason behind it being featured is because it’s a haunted place. It is regarded as one of the most haunted places in Baguio City.

To give you a bit of information, this abandoned hotel was previously a church/seminary that transitioned into a hospital, and a hotel at the latter. Many incidents and theories happened here like the beheading of priests, a nurse committing suicide and the people who died when the hotel caught fire. Nowadays, the abandoned Diplomat Hotel no longer looks spooky compared to the days when it was not yet famous to tourists. This is because they have re-decorated and cleaned it due to the demand of tourists coming here. There’s even a chapel in the first floor that they have built.

There was a time when entering this place is not allowed and visitors are not welcome so we sneak our way in. During my college days, my classmates and I would come here for fun and look for ghosts at night. This is not joke and I dare anyone who’d do that will get instant goosebumps. But nowadays, it looks more of a photo-shoot place.

Strawberry Farm

Located 8 kilometers from Baguio is the famous strawberry farm where tourists love to go and pick fresh strawberries! Note that the strawberry season falls in the months of November – May. There is no entrance fee inside the strawberry farm. However, if you are going to pic strawberries there will be an entrance fee and it will depend on how many kilograms per basket you are picking.

Other unique thing you can do here is to try the organic strawberry ice cream!

Mines View Park

A perfect panoramic view of the mountains can be seen from Mines View Park’s deck. Best time to come here is early in the morning because if you’re lucky enough you’ll see a thick fog covering the hills. Another attraction in here is the famous St. Bernard dog where you can get a photo with him. There are horses available for photo-ops too. Beautiful collection of plants and other pasalubong can be bought here.

Note that the Good Shepherd store is just across the street. It’s where you can buy the famous ube jam and strawberry jam from Baguio City. Because when you say ube or strawberry jam in Baguio, it better be from Good Shepherd! Moreover, various pasalubongs can be bought here too.

Botanical Garden

A walk inside Botanical Garden is one of the relaxing things you can do in Baguio City. Some of the relevant sights that constructs a relaxing walk in the Botanical Garden are the flowers, trees, plants and small to large size of sculptures representing the local culture and traditions of the Igorots .

Other things you can do here is to take pictures with the native Igorots or ride a horse while touring around the place.

Kennon Road, Lion’s Head

The newly painted and renovated statue of the Lion’s Head in Kennon Road is this years early improvement when it comes to tourism in Baguio. Check out the photo below by Manila Bouletin for the epic new look of the lion’s head.

Tip : On the way to Lion’s head you may pass by Kennon Road View Point where you can get a good view of the long and winding Kennon Road

Camp John Hay

Still think that you can roam around Baguio in just 1 day? Camp John Hay alone has a number of things to do and see. The Mansion

Officially the summer palace of the President of the Philippines. To give you a bit of information, this building was built in 1908 as summer homes for US Government Officials and was destroyed in 1945 during the battle of the liberation of the Philippines. Later in 1947, it was rebuilt and became the house of the President whenever they come to Baguio.

Tip: this is just stones-throw away from Wright Park long pond.

Tam-awan Village

For best experience of accommodation in Ifugao, I highly suggest an overnight in a native Ifugao house! You can go to Tam-Awan Village which is 20 minutes away from the center of Baguio city and experience sleeping in a native Ifugao house! Definitely one of the coolest things ever. Bencab Museum

The BenCab Musuem is a brief 15-minute drive from the center of Baguio City. Artworks by BenCab & other noted Filipino artists, plus indigenous northern highlands exhibits are what you can expect here. There is also an overlooking view of the mountains when you look outside.

Philippine Military Academy

The Philippine Military Academy is another tourist spot located in Loakan Rd. Baguio. This is a bit close to the Loakan Airport and it’s about 30 minutes away from the center of Baguio City.

Be reminded that PMA is a very huge place. You can take pictures with cadets in different uniforms and attires. There are different places within the campus that offers splendid views.

Tips from Joan’s Footprints

• Where comfortable clothes according to the season you are coming. The months of April – May are relatively hot. On the other hand, November – February are the coldest months.
• Beware of pick-pockets and keep your bags in front of you especially in thrift shops.
• Always bring a polite attitude.
• Ideal month to come here is from November – February. This is the best weather and the Christmas Village takes place on December. Also, the festival is celebrated for the whole month of February.

If you prefer to travel by car or motorcycle, there are several routes available depending on your starting point. From Manila via SCTEX/NLEX the TPLEX route takes approximately four hours while those coming from La Union can take Kennon Road which offers scenic views but can be challenging given its steep climb.

If this is your first time in Baguio , your best choice would be to stay within the city proper. There are a variety of accommodations available ranging from budget-friendly hostels to luxurious hotels.

You can find affordable options like Baguio Holiday Villas , Iggy’s Inn , or Microtel by Wyndham . Prices range from Php 1000 – Php 3000 depending on the type of room you choose.

3 Days Itinerary

Day 1: exploring baguio’s scenic spots, burnham park: a bike ride to remember.

If you’re a nature lover and enjoy a good bike ride, then Burnham Park should be your first stop. Located at the heart of Baguio City , Burnham Park is the perfect place to start your day and soak up the fresh air.

You can rent a bike for as low as PHP 40 per hour and explore the park’s beautiful surroundings. Take in the scenery while riding along its man-made lagoon, or simply sit back and relax on one of its many benches.

Session Road: Shop and Dine Like a Local

After working up an appetite at Burnham Park, head over to Session Road for some shopping and local eats. Session Road is known for its wide range of shops that cater to all kinds of interests.

This is a reconstructed traditional Igorot village that provides visitors with an opportunity to learn about the customs and traditions of the indigenous people of the Cordilleras. As you explore the village, you will get to see traditional Ifugao houses made from bamboo and cogon grass and learn about their construction techniques.

Located just outside of Baguio City proper, Bencab Museum is a must-visit destination for art lovers. The museum was founded by Benedicto Cabrera or BenCab, one of the most prominent artists in the Philippines . The museum has a vast collection of contemporary art from both local and international artists, with a particular focus on Philippine art.

Visitors can see paintings, sculptures, and other works of art that offer diverse perspectives on Filipino culture and society. One of the highlights of visiting the Bencab Museum is watching the cultural show performed by the Kawayan Folk Arts Group.

3 Days and 2 Nights Baguio Itinerary

Two weeks ago, I took my son on a trip to Baguio and we were there for three days and two nights. That duration was fair enough to see some of Baguio’s most popular tourist spots. But to experience Baguio like locals, a 3D2N vacation to the mountain city would not be enough. Baguio has so much to explore only locals know!

To make the most of that brief Baguio visit, we opted to explore Baguio like tourists. We planned our itinerary from random planning. While on the bus, we talked about where to go first once we get to Baguio. Over dinner and while strolling, we planned where to go on the next day. The itinerary we came up with was amazing! We got to see and experience the best of Baguio in our own time, at our own pace, and most of all, without breaking the wallet.

Day 1 11:15 AM – Left Pasay bound for Baguio City 4:00 PM – Checked in at Paladin Hotel. The hotel’s WIFI is unreliable but location-wise, the hotel is within walking distance to restaurants, and shops and 10 minute walk to Burnham Park. 4:30 PM – Early dinner at Central Park Restaurant

Central Park Restaurant is a restaurant in downtown Baguio serving Chinese cuisine. There are lots of choices on the menu. It’s a must-try. 5:15 PM – Burnham Park

Located in the downtown area, Burnham Park is one of the most popular places in Baguio. Activities you can do here include biking, jogging, strolling, and boating. 7:00 PM – SM City Baguio SM City Baguio features a garden with a nice overlooking view. 9:00 PM – Baguio Night Market

Beside Burnham Park along Harrison Road is a bustling Baguio Night Market. From clothes, accessories, kitchen wares, and souvenir items to name a few, Baguio Night Market is the place to go for thrift shopping. If your appetite is hankering for street food, this is the place to treat your cravings too. 11:45 PM – Back in the hotel Day 2 8:00 AM – Breakfast at the hotel 9:45 AM – The Mansion

The Mansion is the official summer palace of the President of the Philippines. The Mansion consists of an elegantly designed Spanish Colonial Revival building. Inside is a museum that features presidential memorabilia. Unfortunately, during our visit, the gate was closed and the guard mentioned that it has been closed to the public since the pandemic. 10:00 AM – Wright Park

Just at the front gate of The Mansion is Wright Park. At the park, don’t miss going horseback riding and picture taking with the lush scenery of pine trees in the background. 11:00 AM – Mines View Park

From the observation deck, you’ll have an overlooking view of the mining town of Itogon, particularly the abandoned gold and copper mines of the Benguet Corporation. 12:00 Noon – Lemon and Olives Greek Taverna

Serving authentic Greek cuisine, Lemon and Olives Greek Taverna is one of the many restaurants in Baguio with a great overlooking view while dining. But you have to arrive there as early as 10 AM, just so you can get the best seats. Arriving there a bit later, you will be seated far off from the balcony. 2:00 PM – Strawberry Farm

Not to be missed is the Strawberry Farm. The farm is located in La Trinidad, just a few kilometers outside Baguio City. The best time to visit the Strawberry Farm is from March to April. During these months you can enjoy and experience strawberry picking. 3:30 PM – Short nap at the hotel 4:45 PM – Mirador Heritage and Eco-Park

Mirador Heritage and Eco-Park is located on top of Mirador Hill very close to Lourdes Grotto. The park features rock gardens, a bamboo forest, and the most photographed structure, the Torii. The best time to visit Mirador Heritage and Eco–Park is in the afternoon around sunset when you’ll have a breathtaking view of Baguio City. 8:00 PM – Late dinner at Century Park Restaurant

Day 3 8:00 AM – Breakfast at the hotel 10:00 AM – Check out Paladin Hotel 11:00 AM – Return trip back to Manila

To have visited Baguio gave me an impression of what the city truly is beyond photographs. Now I’m curious about what it’s like wandering Baguio’s off-the-beaten-path. Well, I may not know it unless I’ll visit the city of pines once more.

There are two main ways how to commute from  Manila to Baguio – through  a bus or a private van . If you prefer to go to Baguio by bus. Click here to book online Manila to Baguio bus ticket !

You can ride one from  Cubao Bus Station  and the  5-6   hours  bus ride will cost you around  PHP 485 . You can also ride the  Executive Bus  to go to Baguio. The  4-hour  ride will cost you around  PHP 800 . Buses are leaving every hour from Cubao in Manila.

There are a few buses companies getting to Baguio from Manila: Genesis Transport:  Cubao Dagupan Bus Lines, Partas, Victory Liner and Joy Bus . They are leaving from Cubao and Pasay and prices are quite similar. Expect to pay around  PHP 500  for one way and around  PHP 750  if you choose first class.

BEST TIME TO VISIT BAGUIO

Locals also love traveling on the  summer season (March to May)  to ease the Philippine tropical torture/climate. It’s a place for relaxing and taking a break after all. If you actually love festivals, then go visit in  February  as Baguio celebrates their amazingly colorful and joyous Panagbenga festival at that time.

DAILY BUDGET TRAVEL IN BAGUIO

Many of the restaurants and hotels in Baguio are cheap compared to the rest of the country. A full meal in the city can go for as low as  60 PHP  per person while a bottle of beer can be bought for around  50-70 PHP . Restaurant meals can be bought for around  300-800 PHP  for two people. If you only have  20 PHP  in your pocket you can even buy street food with that in Baguio night market.

Transportation is also pretty cheap with jeepneys going all over town at a flat rate of  9 PHP . If you want to travel to Baguio from Manila, the ride will also be convenient and cheap at around  500 PHP .

There are also budget hotels transients costing for around  600-900 PHP  in a promo while three-star establishments go for around  1,000-2,000 PHP , that’s only  $19-38 USD ! For those who want a more luxurious stay, you can check in at very nice hotels at around  $50-120 USD You can also book your accommodations through  Agoda  or  Booking .

BAGUIO ITINERARY

Day 1 baguio itinerary.

If you are coming from Manila after a long bus ride and checking in your accommodation will be around lunchtime. You can go around to see a few Baguio tourist spots before dinner. We recommend you for the first day to visit around Mines View Park area.

The Mines View Park, the Wright Park, Good Shepherd, Botanical Garden, The Mansion and The Pink’s Sisters Convent. And to end the day Baguio Craft Brewery and Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant for dinner.

GOOD SHEPHERD

Near Mines View Park, Good Shepherd Place is a good place to buy  souvenirs . It’s a convenient location to buy gifts and things that will remind you of Baguio’s identity.

Just a tip, queues are often long because the place has been an established “ pasalubong ” store so many tourists come here to buy goodies to bring home to their loved ones. Some of the best selling products are  Ube jam ,  Peanut Brittle , and of course,  strawberry jam .

MINES VIEW PARK

Get a chance to get dressed in full Cordillera regalia that are composed of  bahag , shield and spear for men and  tapis , vest for the ladies.

A top the Mines View Park, you could also see the beautiful view of the Benguet’s gold and copper mines and the Cordillera mountains. If lucky, you could also take a picture with the roaming  St. Bernard Dog  around the area.

THE WRIGHT PARK

Wanna try riding a horse? The Wright Park will definitely help you. It’s also near the Mansion. There are “pony boys” or guides that will help you ride your horse but it’s important to talk about their  hourly charges . It’s really great for kids, too!

PINK SISTERS’ CONVENT

Great place for solemnly relaxing, Pink Sisters Convent is a beautiful church in Baguio  near Brentwood . People often come here to pray for a while and continue their trip. The church is very striking as it is different from its surroundings, very easy to find.

BOTANICAL GARDEN

This park is different from Burnham park because there are  native Igorots  you could take pictures with. Also, it is very comfortable to stay here for relaxing and just take a pause from your trip. The park is absolutely free but you have to pay a small amount of  20 PHP  for taking pictures with natives.

THE MANSION

Who says Presidents could endure Philippines summer heat? The Mansion is the  official place for the President of the Philippines  for summer, that’s why it’s convenient located in the summer capital of the Philippines. Taking pictures in front of the Mansion is allowed but the place is strictly and highly guarded.

BAGUIO CRAFT BREWERY

Being the  first and only craft brewery  with freshly-brewed beer, Baguio Craft Brewery remains a local favorite. Even if you’re new to drinking, it’s easy to get used to it here. Their beer might be heavy but it suits Baguio’s weather perfectly.

FARMER’S DAUGHTER RESTAURANT

Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant has really good food on their menu. Locals often go back here again once they’ve tasted the restaurant’s dishes. People call this  the original or the authentic highlander menu.  They really do their food exceedingly well for its price.

DAY 2 ITINERARY IN BAGUIO

For the second day in your Baguio itinerary the best is waking up early morning to visit the strawberry farm. And for finishing the day walking around Burnham Park. Lourdes Grotto, Ben Cab Museum and Ifugao Woodcarvers’ Village.

You can visit Tam-Awan Village to see the Kalinga houses and the colorful and popular Stobosa Mural Arts in Baguio.For dinner you should check it out Baguio night market where there is plenty of street food. Read here  57 Filipino dishes !

VISIT A STRAWBERRY FARM

Strawberry farm lets you pick your strawberry, that’s why the experience is amazing. You could also buy packed strawberries. Actually, Rachel and I would rather want to pick ours though because we could eat it right after picking.

Don’t worry about picking unripe strawberries because it’s easy to find ripe ones. It may be more costly to buy strawberries here but the experience is worth it. Try going in  December to May.

BEN CAB MUSEUM

Take your time finishing all of the museum’s displays and just relax. Ben Cab museum will surely teach you how to appreciate art. It’s instinctive once you got the feeling. And again, art with Baguio’s vibes feel really different. It’s calming, peaceful and magical. Yes, you’ll find spots that are  instagrammable !

LOURDES GROTTO

Lourdes Grotto is another place for relaxing and possibly soul searching, so it’s in our Baguio tourist spots list. You only need to  trek 252 steps  to get to the top and see the beautiful view of Baguio City. There is also a statue of the Virgin Mary on the top. Visitors light up a candle upon getting in to the top as well and offer their prayers.

VALLEY OF COLORS (STOBOSA MURAL ARTS)

Stobosa Mural Arts is an area filled with  colorful hillside houses . You could take beautiful photos for your Instagram here but just remember to take good angles, ha! Laundries hanging may be added as an accessory. Be creative!

TAM-AWAN VILLAGE

Located in  Pinsao Proper , this village resonates to tourists that love art. The village has  seven Ifugao huts and two Kalinga House s. It’s a great way to immerse yourself on Baguio’s tribal culture. Touring around won’t take you long,  two hours  would be the maximum and you’re done.

IFUGAO WOODCARVERS’ VILLAGE

Ifugao Woodcarvers’ Village is a great side trip going to Ben Cab Museum not because it is bad but because roaming around here would only take about  an hour . The great thing about this place is that they really have some good  wood carvings  that you could buy and take home as souvenirs.

BURNHAM PARK

There are a lot of things to do in Burnham Park as it is one of the most famous parks in the Philippines. Some of those are  biking.  You can rent bikes inside the park.  You can have a  picnic  on picnic grove, visit the  orchidarium , try the  skating  rink, ride the  rowboat  and many more. This park has been consistently been in Baguio tourist spots.

NIGHT MARKET IN BAGUIO

Surely, a Baguio tourist spot because Harrison Road is popular for its  night market opening after 9 PM . There are a lot of great deals being sold. Try to catch a few! Remember that this place gets crowded because of the prices that can be saved. If you’re up to the challenge, you can surely get one!

DAY 3 BAGUIO ITINERARY

For your last day visiting Baguio Market where you can buy  pasalubong  peanut brittle and strawberries are the most popular ones to bring back home. For more sightseeing Baguio Museum and Atonement Cathedral.

BAGUIO CITY MARKET

Baguio City Market is a haven for shoppers trying to find souvenirs, but it’s famous for its stalls selling  coffee beans.  There are a lot of things you could buy here like,  fresh fruits and vegetables, “sundot kulangot”, peanut brittle, strawberry jams, longganisa,  and many many more. It’s also located very near to Burnham Park, which is very convenient.

BAGUIO MUSEUM

Located  near SM Baguio , Baguio Museum may be old but it still has important artifacts and informational content that will tell you the story of Baguio. For educational purposes, this is still topnotch. Try to add it to your itinerary to better appreciate Baguio’s development. You’d only need  less than a dollar  to get in.

ATONEMENT CATHEDRAL

This cathedral is quite popular for locals, especially on  Sunday . However, the place is very serene and calm. If you want to take a break from your itinerary and have a self-reflection time or pray, then go here. The church is  near the Upper Session Road , you might want to head there next.

MORE DAYS BAGUIO ITINERARY

If you are planning to stay longer or going more on your own there are more places to visit in Baguio. If you like adventure you can’t miss Mt Pulag National Park, Camp John Hay and Tree Top Adventure.

MT. PULAG NATIONAL PARK

Hiking may be very exhausting but it’s always worth it when you get to the top. Mt. Pulag is just like that but it’ll give you a view that you won’t ever forget. The experience hiking and going up the trail isn’t a hassle at all.

A guide costs about  PHP 600  per 5 people  while the  environmental fee  costs about  PHP   150 . The temperature could get really cold up to 5 degree Celsius.

CAMPING IN BAGUIO

If you have more days in your Baguio itinerary you can try camping or glamping in Baguio. You will enjoy amazing sunsets and sunrises from the top of the mountain. It’s only a few kilometers far from the city and you will breath fresh air.

TREE TOP ADVENTURE 

Not for the faint-hearted, Tree Top adventure has something for adrenaline chasers. From  canopy riding, ziplines, tree drops  and many more. You’ll surely find a package that will fit you.

Safety is not an issue. The staff are accommodating and friendly, they’ll make you feel really secure. This place is adventure-packed so it’s one of the Baguio tourist spots that you shouldn’t miss.

CAMP JOHN HAY

Camp John Hay is a famous tourist attraction in Baguio because of the variety of activities you could try. There are adrenaline-packed activities like riding  zip lines and harnessed free falls.  One activity named  yellow trail  isn’t adrenaline-packed but it will make you calmly fall in love with nature more as you embark on an easy forest trail.

You could also try visiting the funny, witty, but eye-opening  Cemetery of Negativism . Hopefully, you could bury some of yours there as well.

BRIDAL VEIL FALLS

Bridal Veil Falls is good for  taking pictures . It’s worth noting that the falls could be not that great sometimes, so try to insert some other places in your itinerary after going here. Other than that, even just a side trip Bridal Veil Falls is still one of the beautiful Baguio tourist spots.

LION’S HEAD

Lion’s Head is a great way to start your trip to Baguio. Many tourists take pictures here because it means their journey is about to begin. The Lion’s Head is located  at Camp 6  and measures about  40 feet in height . The paint still remains vivid and still is strikingly amazing.

LAPERAL HOUSE

An art gallery could sometimes be a  haunted house  right? Definitely with Laperal House! Laperal White House hides more than we know. It attracts visitors because of its mysteries.

Sadly, it is now  closed for the public.  You could still take pictures outside though. It still remains one of the most visited Baguio tourist spots.

EMILIO F. AGUINALDO MUSEUM

Emilio F. Aguinaldo Museum is a museum that unlike other museums. Tourists love it because it is not boring like other museums. The staff are engaging and they will teach you a lot about the  Philippine history . Some displays include the  first Philippine Flag  (may turn to ashes soon),  uniforms ,  coins ,  documents,  and many more.

MUSEO KORDILYERA – UP BAGUIO ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM

Unlike other museums, the ambiance itself is inviting and beautiful. It’s very informational. Also, it is  inside UP Baguio  so expect that you’ll learn a thing or two that’ll remain to you after you exit the museum. Most importantly, it is  super  IG -worthy.

EXPLORE SESSION ROAD

Popular for its  nightlife , session road is a long road in the  central business district of Baguio.  There are a lot of shops around the area, some of which are already common. However, adding the Baguio vibes feels would be much different.

CASA VALLEJO HOTEL

Amazing for its value and located in Upper Session Road, Casa Vallejo Hotel is a hotel that withstood  100 years . It is very near SM Baguio and to Burnham Park. The accommodation is also very relaxing as the interior is a combination of historical and modern style.

MOUNT CLOUD

Mount Cloud is an independent  bookshop  that features mostly local authors and some international authors. They have some very good eye-opening books for history but they also have other genres available. The place might be small but is still cozy. Go visit and grab a book that will catch your attention, you will surely buy one.

KENNON ROAD

Kennon Road remains the  best road going to Baguio  for the following reasons. First, it the fastest route. Second, you’ll never have the views of Kennon Road on other routes. Third, it’s really exciting to drive on this road. However, the biggest drawback is Kennon Road is a dangerous road to drive. Be safe!

DIPLOMAT HOTEL

Diplomat Hotel is known in Baguio for one reason, they said it is  haunted . If you’re interested in paranormal activities it is essential that you visit this hotel. You might feel eerie but the scenery around remains picturesque.

Some of which include, 24-hour front desk, luggage service, and wake up service.

They also have beautiful  blackout curtains  surely good for those people trying to have a better sleep after good day travel. Interestingly, they also have air-conditioned in their rooms, unlike the hotels we’ve mentioned earlier. A night in their  Deluxe Room  costs about  32 USD per 2 people .
