Ree safari park – discover exciting world of animals.

Ree Safari Park is one of the best Safari parks/zoos I have ever been to in Denmark. Lying in the heart of Djursland in Jutland, the park offers an unforgettable experience for both young and old. 

One of the main reasons why I am a big fan of this particular place is that the animal enclosures are enormous, hilly, and offer ample space for animals to hide and run around. This means that you might not have a chance to see all the animals as they might hide in their burrows or sleep in the shade far away from prying eyes. Nevertheless, you will still enjoy what the park has to offer. It feels like the park considered the welfare of the animals first and then tourists, which is fantastic.

About the park

The park itself is massive, and it took us the whole day to walk around. Some animals, primarily predatory, are kept in their own enclosures, and you can look at them from afar. Whether you can spot leopards or lions is up to your luck.

Some other animals like donkeys, maras, or greater rheas walk freely among people. One of the greater rheas became really curious about my pants with floral pattern making me use my boyfriend as a protective shield 🙂

Check out the monkey island , where you can spot monkeys running around quite close to people. Make sure, though, to follow what is written on the signs and do not come open bags or come with a baby cart inside, as the monkey will hop onto it immediately. We saw a couple that had to run out of the area after being surrounded by curious monkeys just because they went in with a baby cart 🙂

Land Rover Safari

In addition to just walking around, it is possible to buy an extra activity, which is called Land Rover Safari. The car with a guide will take you through the savannah, where you can see zebras, rhinos, giraffes, and other animals closer. The trip lasts around 15 minutes, and you learn a lot about specific animals.

It is possible to see the savannah from the outside, so if you want to save up money, you can, though, personally, I liked the tour as I learned a lot of interesting facts.

Note though, that the ticket is not included in the general admission price, so you need to buy it separately. When you get the ticket, you also need to reserve a time slot for when you need to show up at the assembly point. That means that in high season, they might run out of spots during the day.

America Express

America Express is another activity that offers a train ride past the North American prairie. From the train, you will be able to see buffalos, bears, and wolfs closer by. My biggest stars were Prairie dogs; they stole the show with their many dens spread throughout the entire prairie. 

Note : Like Land Rover Safari, American Express is an extra activity you have to book and pay for beforehand. You also have to reserve a time slot.

Spend a night in the park

It is possible to spend a night and rent a cabin or a shelter in the park. In addition to an accommodation with an overview of enclosures with wolfs, giraffes, moose, and many others, you will also have the opportunity to partake in feeding animals and enjoy the park after busy hours.

At the time of writing (July 2022), there was a 20% discount on the tickets applied to up to 5 people if you show your ticket at the entrance to the safari park no later than seven days after you have boarded the MOLSLINJEN ferry- the one from the song, you most definitely heard if you live in Denmark. Food and drinks 

You can bring your own lunches and drinks. There are tables, benches, fire pits, gas grills, and covered dining areas in several places in the park for free use. 

There are also different shops and restaurants where you can buy food, drinks, and icecreams.

How to get there

The easiest way to get there is by car. Ree Park Safari is located approx. 12 km from Ebeltoft. There is a huge parking lot, so you will not have issues finding a parking spot.

Public transport

Unfortunately, no public buses drive directly to Ree Park.

From Ebeltoft

The closest you can get is if you take in Ebeltoft regional bus 351 going to Grenaa and get off in Hyllested (3 km away from the park).

From Aarhus

If you are coming from Aarhus, you can take regional bus 122 towards Grenaa and get off in Tirstrup(7 km to Ree Park).

From Randers

If you are coming from Randers, take regional bus 212 all the way to Ebeltoft or get off in Øksenmølle. From here it is just under 5 km to the park.

According to Midttrafik , bicycles can be taken on the regional buses to the extent that space permits.

You can also order something Flextur , which you must order at least one hour before the trip. Collective traffic allows people living in less dense areas of Denmark to use public commutes. It basically works like a taxi but is cheaper.

Ree Park Safari

Central Jutland

Ree Park houses an impressive collection of animals from all corners of the globe, with Africa taking more than the lion’s share (pun intended). Visitors can pay extra to take a Land Rover tour through the 'African savannah' (45kr) or a train across the 'North American prairie' (55kr). There are plenty of animal feedings throughout the day, and camel rides too.

The park is 10km northeast of Ebeltoft (no bus service). See the website for closing times (4pm to 8pm).

Its your own choice just know it

It was fun but there almost wasnt any animals like no giraffes and lions, i loved it otherwise but still why pay so much for almost half of the animals to not be there??

What a mess! That's not how you treat paying guests.

They overbooked the train ride because they had some kind of "arrangement" on top of people who had paid and bought tickets. The ones with regular tickets were already onboard but then they said on the speakers "you all have to get off and let the "arrangement" get onboard first". They didn't even apologize! People got off. Kids who had been waiting patiently in line crying because they couldn't get back on. Really poor communication. People were told to walk all the way back to the shop to get their ticket refunded. That's not how I want to spend my day in the park with my kids. That's not a way to treat your guests! (I heard around that the same thing had happened with the Jeep ride but didn't observe it myself).

Hvilken fantastisk og skøn dag

Hvilken fantastisk og skøn dag det har været i dag, på udflugt med familien i @reeparksafari, parken er utrolig smuk og dyrene har det dejligt kan man se og hvilken serviceniveau #reeparksafari har. Og hvor er det dejligt handicapvenlig at komme rundt, allround personalet de er så søde rar og flink, når man skal ind til #lemur eller #aberne så går personalet med os rund og passe på Os, så dyrene ikke overfalder os. Og når man er der oppe, så er der mulighed format tage på Safari tur med deres lokale togbane eller med deres Land Rover, igen handicapvenligt at komme med rund og man føler sig ikke klemt eller presset sammen med andre gæster. Virkelige en opleves vær. Og er man handicappet og ikke kan havde sin el-scooter med der op, ja så er der mulighed for at låne en for 200 dkk What a fantastic and wonderful day it has been today, on an #excursion with the family in @reeparksafari, the park is incredibly beautiful and the animals have a great time you can see on what level of service #reeparksafari has. And how nice it is for people with #disabilities to get around, the #Park staff, they are so sweet, nice, when you go to #lemur or #monkeys Area, the staff walks around with us and takes care Of ud so the the animals do not attack us. When you are up there, there is the option to go on a Safari trip with their local train track or with their Land Rover, again handicap friendly to come round and you do not feel #squeezed or pressured with other guests. Really Nice sightseeing on their area. And if you are disabled and can not have your electric mobility scooter with you up there, then it is possible to borrow one for 200 dkk

White nights festival - russia's biggest celebration.

World festivals mark global events that are a must-see for any dedicated traveler. Although lesser known than major global favorites like Carnival or Burning Man , the White Nights Festival in Russia is a collision of culture, arts and music that provides one of the richest experience around.

Every May through July, the streets of St. Petersburg, Russia, come alive with colorful celebrations and performances by some of the world's most talented artists. The White Nights Festival is an international arts festival that takes place during the season of the midnight sun, when the Northern Light shines at both dawn and dusk, allowing the millions of festival-goers that visit each year the opportunity to celebrate all day and all night long.

A Cultural Celebration of Music and Arts

The festival celebrates the arts of opera, ballet, and classical music and is kicked off with the "Stars of the White Nights" at the world famous Mariinsky Theatre. The program presents the company's most exceptional productions, with performances by leading Russian and international artists, and combines famous historical productions along with new premieres and contemporary pieces. This year's program kicks off on May 27th and has featured nationally renowned productions like Swan Lake in the past. During the festival there are daily evening performances of either ballet or opera at the theatre and classical or opera musical performances at the Mariinsky Concert Hall. The series of performances always features some of the biggest names in the arts world, including famed Spanish tenor Placido Domingo, Russian operatic soprano Anna Netrebko , and Los Angeles Opera conductor James Conlon. Ballet performances have included revivals of Russian choreographer George Balanchine's classics, as well as contemporary dance versions of The Nutcracker and Cinderella. The performances are all widely attended and visitors' best bet would be to purchase tickets online in advance.

Carnivals - Fun for the Whole Family

Carnivals also occur during the White Nights Festival and allow both children and adults to delight in traditional games and fine food. The largest carnival is held in the suburb of Peterhof, where historical figures and events are reinterpreted by costumed actors. Carnivals at the Catherine Palace and in the Pavlovsk suburb of St. Petersburg are also known for their highly artistic reproductions of the historic events that took place at those palaces. For music lovers, St. Petersburg's Palace Square becomes home to some of the international music world's biggest stars during the festival. The large square has been used for official military parades and massive demonstrations, and has also been the site of recent concerts by legendary musicians like Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones.

Fireworks and Finales

The culminating event of the festival is the Scarlet Sails celebration, which is a massive event to celebrate the end of the school year that is known for its spectacular fireworks display and a water show that features boats full of pirates battling on the Neva River. Musical acts and motorboat and rowing races are also highlights of the celebration. The tradition began in St. Petersburg after the end of WWII, when several schools in Leningrad united to celebrate the ending of a school year in connection with symbolism of the popular children's book "Scarlet Sails" by Alexander Grin. At the first celebration a boat with scarlet sails sailed along the English Embankment and the Admiralty Embankment towards the Winter Palace.
