Welcome to Madrid, one of the most beautiful cities in Spain! As a tourist, you’ll want to make the most of your time exploring the city, and one of the best ways to do that is by using the tourist travel pass. The tourist travel pass is a convenient and cost-effective way to get around Madrid’s public transportation system, which includes buses, metro, and suburban trains. With this pass, you’ll have unlimited access to all these modes of transport, making it easy for you to explore the city’s top attractions. The pass comes in two options: a one-day pass and a three-day pass. The one-day pass costs €8.40, while the three-day pass costs €18.40. Both passes offer unlimited travel on all modes of public transportation in Madrid’s city center, including the metro, bus, and suburban train. You can purchase the tourist travel pass at any metro station, authorized kiosks, and tourist information centers. The pass is activated upon first use and is valid for 24 hours for the one-day pass and 72 hours for the three-day pass. Once you have the pass, you can use it to explore Madrid’s top attractions, such as the Royal Palace, Prado Museum, and Retiro Park. You can also use it to travel to nearby towns and attractions, such as Toledo or Segovia. One thing to keep in mind when using the tourist travel pass is that it is not valid for the airport express bus or for the metro line that goes to the airport. If you need to travel to or from the airport, you’ll need to purchase a separate ticket. In summary, the tourist travel pass is an excellent option for visitors to Madrid who want to explore the city’s top attractions conveniently and affordably. With unlimited access to public transportation, you can spend your time sightseeing and enjoying all that Madrid has to offer. Once you’ve booked, your tickets will be sent directly to your email. There’s no hassle of printing them; you can simply display them on your phone. This digital approach has a significant benefit: when you arrive in Madrid, you can start exploring right away. You can go straight to the city center without the need to stop and collect any physical tickets.

Is the Madrid Museum Pass worth it?

The Madrid’s museum pass is the perfect tourist card if you’re only in Madrid for 1-2 days on your journey through Spain.

That being said, you may have very different priorities on your trip to Madrid. If you only want to visit one museum, the pass may not be worth it. You really do have to make the assessment yourself.

But here are the reasons why I recommend it:

1. Save money

It’s the reason you looked for a discount card in the first place, isn’t it?

Apart from skipping the line at each of Madrid’s top three museums, you’ll save up to 20% .

2. Skip the line at Madrid’s most popular attractions

It grants you priority access to most museums and monuments — without having to pre-purchase tickets for specific times .

This is huge if you have limited time in Madrid. Many of the most popular museums regularly have wait times of 30 minutes or more. But if you have the museum pass, you can skip that line. You still have to go through a security check, but the lines are shorter.

Meanwhile, you can keep the spontaneity of visiting whatever museums you want in whatever order you want — you’re not bound by pre-planned visit times.

3. It’s completely digital

The Madrid Museum Card stands out from other discount cards in the city because it’s completely digital. This means you don’t have to go through the hassle of collecting physical tickets. You won’t need to worry about going to a specific location in the busy center of Madrid during limited office hours, nor will you have to bother with printing out tickets or the risk of losing them.

With the Madrid Museum Card, you can book everything comfortably from your home, at a pace that suits you. Once you’ve booked, all you need to do is show the tickets on your smartphone . It’s that simple and convenient!

Madrid Museum Card FAQ

Does the Madrid Museum Pass include public transport?

No, the Madrid Museum Pass doesn’t include public transport. There’s a specific travel city pass that you’ll need to get as well.

Do I have to pick anything up?

No, all tickets will be sent online.

Do I absolutely have to select my visiting dates for all 3 museums?

Yes, it’s fundamental to get your tickets sent.

Can I visit the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía Center and the Thyssen Museum any day of the week?

You can visit the museums any day of the week, except Mondays at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza.

How much time do I have between the purchasing and the visiting date?

Your Madrid Museum Pass is valid for one year after you redeem it.

Note that you should save the ticket, as you must show it at the entrance to each of the three museums. You can choose whether to visit all 3 museums in one day or one every month, etc. The main thing is to meet the deadline. The date you indicate at the time of booking is the day when you can exchange the coupon for the tickets by visiting one of three museums.

I am 24 and see there is a Young Travel Pass Fare for the metro that is cheaper than the Tourist Travel Pass. Which one should I use?

' class=

Depends how long you are there for & how often you plan to use the metro.

Maybe getting the multicard card & loading the 10 journey ticket would be cheaper.

The 10 journey ticket for Zone a costs €12.20

madrid tourist travel pass worth it

If you are staying centrally located, you may well find that you will be able to walk to most of the main sights. Walking is by far the best way to see the city. Many visitors are surprised at how little they have to use public transport once they are here.

Once you have figured out what you want to see and do in the form of putting together an itinerary for yourself, this should give you an indication of how often you may need to use public transport.

The young card is for residents.

As livvy says, give us more information about your stay here and we'll be able to recommend what fits better for you.

Here I explained the different tickets:

https://www.tripadvisor.com.ph/ShowTopic-g187514-i126-k11964977-Saving_on_metro_tickets-Madrid.html#95081378

The ten ticket is a good deal, and as had been said, if you're are staying in the center you probably won't need much more than that, and is you do, you can reload the card without paying the 2.50€ for a new card.

I was there for 10 days earlier this year and refilled it once, but I also took a couple of trips to the ends of a couple of lines, just to see what it was like on the outskirts, and from Atocha to Chamartín to catch the train for a trip to Segovia.

I am going to be there for a week.

Thank you! I am staying for a week.

Yes, we got that you are staying for a week, but what are you planning to do while you are here? If you give us an idea of your itinerary we can advise how often you might need to take public transport.

Is the Paris Visite Travel Pass Worth It?

By Anna Duncan

Are you planning a trip to Paris and wondering if the Paris Visite Travel Pass is worth your money? Let’s take a closer look at what the pass offers and whether it’s a good fit for your travel plans.

What is the Paris Visite Travel Pass?

The Paris Visite Travel Pass is a transportation pass that provides unlimited access to the public transportation system in Paris. This includes the metro, buses, tramway, RER trains, and even the Montmartre funicular. The pass comes in 1, 2, 3, or 5-day options and can be purchased for zones 1-3 or zones 1-5 depending on your travel needs.

How much does it cost?

The cost of the Paris Visite Travel Pass varies depending on the number of days and zones selected. As of August 2021, prices start at €13.20 for a one-day pass in zones 1-3 and go up to €65.80 for a five-day pass in zones 1-5.

Is it worth it?

Whether or not the Paris Visite Travel Pass is worth it depends on your individual travel plans. Here are some factors to consider:

Length of stay: If you’re only in Paris for a day or two and plan to do most of your sightseeing on foot, then the pass may not be worth it. However, if you’re staying for three days or more and plan to use public transportation regularly, then the pass can save you money.

Number of zones: If you’re only staying within central Paris (zones 1-3), then purchasing a pass for zones 1-5 may not be necessary. However, if you plan to venture outside of central Paris (such as Versailles or Disneyland), then purchasing a pass for zones 1-5 can save you money in the long run.

Type of activities: If you plan to visit many museums or attractions that are located far apart, then the pass can save you time and money by allowing you to easily travel between them. However, if you’re only visiting a few nearby attractions, then the pass may not be necessary.

Additional benefits

Aside from unlimited transportation, the Paris Visite Travel Pass also offers additional benefits such as discounts on certain attractions and restaurants. These discounts may not be significant enough to sway your decision on whether or not to purchase the pass, but they’re a nice bonus.

Where to buy

The Paris Visite Travel Pass can be purchased online or at ticket counters in metro and RER stations. It’s important to note that if you purchase online, you’ll need to pick up your physical pass at a designated location once you arrive in Paris.

  • Online: The official website is https://www.parisinfo.com/
  • In-person: Look for ticket counters in metro and RER stations.

In conclusion,

The Paris Visite Travel Pass can be a great option for those staying in Paris for three days or more and plan to use public transportation regularly. However, it’s important to weigh the cost against your individual travel plans before purchasing.
