Safely Replacing a LAMY Feed

While the feeds of LAMY fountain pens aren't made to be removed as a regular part of their operation, it is possible to accidentally pull one out when swapping your nib. If you put the feed back in incorrectly, you can jam it in and make it nearly impossible to remove without damaging it. I made this video to help you safely replace your feed in your pen in case you should find yourself in this situation. I hope it helps!

How to Clean a Lamy Safari Fountain Pen

remove lamy safari feed

The LAMY Safari is one of the most popular and best-performing fountain pens on the market. Properly cleaning your Lamy Safari is the easiest way to have it on hand for years to come.

To clean a LAMY Safari fountain pen:

  • Rinse, flush, and soak the nib section
  • Rinse the converter (if needed)
  • Flush the feed
  • Set upside down and dry

In this article, we look at the process for cleaning LAMY Safari fountain pens both with and without a converter. We also explain how converter-users can get a deeper clean and how to store the pen to limit further cleaning.

How to Clean a LAMY Safari Fountain Pen Without a Converter

remove lamy safari feed

The LAMY Safari Fountain Pen is a cartridge replacement fountain pen, but most choose to use a LAMY Z 28 converter so they can refill using bottled ink.

If you only plan on using one color with your LAMY Safari Fountain Pen, or you have yet to purchase a converter, then cleaning the pen requires more disassembly.

You should clean your LAMY Safari Fountain Pen every few months , each time you replace your ink cartridge, or when you decide to change cartridge colors.

Cleaning the Nib Section

Start by uncapping the pen and then unscrewing the nib. Remove your old cartridge from the pen, then hold the nib under cool running water.

The movement should be sufficient to wash off any easily removable ink, making it easier to remove built-up ink or other grime.

Fill a cup with room temperature water, then place the nib section in there to soak. Keep an eye on the water and replace it when it gets saturated with ink.

Continue to do this until the water stays clear for 1 hour. Keep in mind that some inks take longer to clear off, including different colors from the same brand.

Drying the Nib Section

Drying the nib section of your LAMY Safari Fountain Pen is not intensive, but keep in mind you need to let it sit for about 24 hours to dry completely.

Gently wipe the nib section down using a soft, lint-free cloth. Take care not to snag the cloth on any parts of the nib section.

After, put some absorbent material (such as a washcloth, napkin, or paper towel) in the bottom of a dry cup. Place the nib section pointing down in the cup and let gravity take care of any leftover water.

When your nib section dries completely, install the cartridge and screw the nib section back onto the barrel.

How to Flush a LAMY Safari Fountain Pen With a Converter

You should flush your LAMY Safari fountain pen and LAMY Z 28 converter when you notice it writing poorly, in between refills, or when you are switching inks.

Clean the Nib Section First

Start by disassembling the pen and cleaning the nib, similar to the process mentioned above. Rinse the nib under running water and then move on to rinsing the converter.

Rinsing the Converter

Use clean, room temperature water to flush your LAMY Z 28.

Fill and empty the converter until the water runs clear.

You may still notice leftover ink on the nib section or converter at this point, but do not worry; we will address this later.

Flushing the LAMY Safari Fountain Pen

Partially reassemble your LAMY Safari fountain pen and LAMY Z 28 converter by reattaching the converter to the nib section.

Place the tip of the nib in water, and then flush the feed using the converter.

LAMY recommends you do this using two cups, one filled with water and one empty. Draw water up into the converter, then empty it into the second cup.

Repeat this process until the water runs clear.

If you notice any ink leftover at this point, soak the nib section using the above method to dissolve any residual ink.

Drying and Reassembling a LAMY Safari Fountain Pen with Converter

Let the nib section and converter of your LAMY Safari fountain pen dry separately, at least overnight but ideally for 24 hours.

Once the parts of your pen dry completely, you can piece them back together and refill your converter.

Cleaning the LAMY Safari Fountain Pen Converter

How to Clean a Lamy Safari Pen

The LAMY Z 28 you can use with your LAMY Safari fountain pen is easy to take apart for deeper cleaning. Do this anytime you notice your converter does not flush clean.

Start by removing the piston ring. Twist the knob of the converter clockwise to pull the piston all the way up, then grasp the metal ring. You may need the assistance of grippy material such as a rubber band.

Twist the ring counterclockwise to remove, then gently pull on the knob of the converter to remove the piston mechanism. Clean the ink chamber out using room temperature water, and allow all the parts to dry completely.

At this point, you may want to apply silicone grease to the piston to keep it operating smoothly, but this is not required.

Reassemble your LAMY Z 28 by inserting the piston mechanism into the tube and ensuring it sits firmly. Replace the ring on the piston. LAMY Z 28 is notorious for needing a gentle squeeze to get this part back on properly.

Storing the LAMY Safari Fountain Pen

To limit the cleaning needed for your LAMY Safari fountain pen and prevent damage, make sure you store it properly . Improper storage leads to issues due to dry ink and climate conditions, as well as the potential to damage the nib.

If you plan on storing your LAMY Safari fountain pen for an extended period of time, anything past a few days, make sure you empty the reservoir and clean it thoroughly beforehand.

Anything shorter and you should be able to just clean the nib.

Make sure you store your LAMY Safari fountain pen somewhere cool and dry that is out of direct sunlight. The pen can lay horizontal or with the nib pointing up.

Final Thoughts

Cleaning your LAMY Safari fountain pen keeps it writing effortlessly smooth, and it saves you money on costly repairs or replacements.

This only takes a moment, and as long as you remember to clean the pen regularly, you should expect the writing utensil to last through years of use.

How To Do a Lamy Safari Nib Swap

How To Do a Lamy Safari Nib Swap

A very common question asked by our customers is how to do a Lamy Safari Nib Swap. The Lamy Safari is a great starter pen that comes in a large variety of nib sizes. Thanks to the genius of German Engineering, swapping between these nibs is super simple! Please note that this same technique can also be used on the following pens: Lamy Joy, Lamy Vista, Lamy Logo, Lamy Al-Star, Lamy Joy Al, Lamy LX, Lamy Studio, and the Lamy CP1. You can also swap the nib between different Lamy fountain pens. For instance, you can remove the nib from a Lamy Safari and put it onto a Lamy CP1.  You can even exchange the nibs with the Lamy Aion pen but you will not have the same rounded nib shape that comes with the pen as the nib design is slightly different. You should not use these techniques on any other Lamy pen, including the Lamy 2000.

For this guide we used a Lamy Safari Petrol Fountain Pen with a Medium nib. Also used in this guide is the Pen Chalet Nib Grip .

Lamy Safari Nib Swap Step 1

Lamy Safari Nib Swap Step 1

First, you will want to make sure that your Lamy Safari is cleaned and flushed out. You can swap nibs while the pen is still inked, but be warned that there will be inky fingers.

Next, you will want to remove the cap and hold the barrel of the pen in one hand.

Now that you have the pen situated, take your Pen Chalet Nib Grip, and gently fold it around the nib. You will want wrap it so that your fingers will apply pressure on the two sides of the nib. A common error here is placing your fingers with one on top of the nib and the other under the nib on the feed. This can cause the entire feed to be removed, instead of just the nib. If you remove the feed it must be inserted at the same angle.

Gently apply pressure with your index finger and thumb and pull the nib away from the barrel. Make sure that you have something nearby so you can store the now free nib.

Take the new nib in the same hold with the Pen Chalet Nib Grip. Align the “wings” of the feed with the “hooks” of the nib. Then gently push the nib onto the feed. The feed’s design naturally stops the nib in the correct position. Just make sure that you pushing the nib on gently, and everything will turn out great!

That’s all that there is to a Lamy Safari Nib Swap! These four simple steps can help you swap from an Extra Fine nib to a 1.9mm Calligraphy nib at a moments notice! Removing Ink Buildup From Your Lamy Safari

Learn how to effectively clean your lamy safari fountain pen and remove stubborn ink buildup with these simple steps. Keep your pen in top condition and ensure smooth writing every time.

If you’re an avid writer or a fountain pen enthusiast, you may occasionally encounter ink buildup in your lamy safari. This buildup can affect the pen’s performance and even result in a messy writing experience. To ensure your lamy safari stays in optimal condition, it’s crucial to clean it effectively.

In this section, we’ll explore two methods for removing ink buildup from your lamy safari: wiping the pen nib and feed with a soft cloth, and soaking the nib and feed in a mild soap solution.

Wiping The Pen Nib And Feed With A Soft Cloth:

Cleaning the pen nib and feed is an essential first step in removing ink buildup from your lamy safari. Here’s how you can do it effectively:

  • Begin by disassembling the pen, separating the nib, feed, and ink cartridge or converter.
  • Take a clean, soft cloth and gently wipe the nib and feed to remove any excess ink. Be careful not to apply excessive pressure to avoid damaging the delicate parts of the pen.
  • Ensure that all traces of ink are removed from both the nib and the feed, ensuring optimal ink flow during your writing sessions.
  • Once you’ve wiped the nib and feed thoroughly, reassemble the pen, making sure all components fit securely.

Soaking The Nib And Feed In A Mild Soap Solution:

If the ink buildup on your lamy safari is stubborn and requires a more thorough cleaning, soaking the nib and feed in a mild soap solution can work wonders. Follow these steps:

  • Disassemble the pen, separating the nib, feed, and ink cartridge or converter.
  • Prepare a mild soap solution by mixing a small amount of mild dish soap with warm water in a container.
  • Place the nib and feed in the soap solution, ensuring they are fully submerged.
  • Let the nib and feed soak for approximately 15-20 minutes, allowing the soap to dissolve the stubborn ink buildup.
  • After soaking, take a soft toothbrush or a clean cloth and gently scrub the nib and feed to remove any remaining ink. Be gentle to avoid damaging the delicate parts of the pen.
  • Rinse the nib and feed thoroughly under running water to remove any soap residue.
  • Once you’re satisfied that all the ink and soap are removed, reassemble the pen securely, ensuring all components fit properly.

Gently Cleaning The Pen Barrel And Cap:

While cleaning the nib, feed, and ink buildup, it’s essential not to neglect the pen barrel and cap. Here’s a gentle and effective way to clean them:

  • Use a clean, soft cloth slightly dampened with water to wipe the pen barrel and cap. Be sure to remove any ink stains or dust particles that may have accumulated over time.
  • If necessary, you can also use a mild soap solution, following the same approach mentioned earlier, to clean the pen barrel and cap more thoroughly.
  • After cleaning, dry the pen barrel and cap thoroughly before reassembling the pen.

Regularly cleaning your lamy safari can help maintain its performance and prolong its lifespan. By following these cleaning methods, you can effectively remove ink buildup and ensure smooth writing experiences with your beloved lamy safari fountain pen.

  • Hold the pen nib under a steady stream of lukewarm water.
  • Allow the water to flow through the pen for several seconds, flushing out any remaining ink.
  • Gently shake the pen to aid in the removal of stubborn ink.

Disassembling The Pen For Deeper Cleaning:

For a more thorough cleaning, you may choose to disassemble your lamy safari. It’s important to note that this step should only be done occasionally and with caution. Here’s how you can do it:

  • Unscrew the pen barrel from the nib section.
  • Remove the ink cartridge or converter if it’s still attached.
  • Set the barrel aside.

Removing The Nib And Feed:

To access the nib and feed for individual cleaning, follow these steps carefully:

  • Grip the nib and feed assembly firmly and twist it counter-clockwise.
  • Slowly pull the nib and feed straight out of the pen.
  • Be careful not to bend or damage the delicate nib during removal.

Cleaning The Nib And Feed Individually:

Now that you have your nib and feed separated, you can clean them individually to remove any ink residue or debris. Here’s what you should do:

  • Rinse the nib and feed under a gentle stream of lukewarm water.
  • Use a soft toothbrush or toothpick to carefully remove any stubborn ink or debris.
  • Ensure all parts are clean and free from any residue before moving on.

Reassembling The Pen:

After cleaning the various components of your lamy safari, it’s time to reassemble the pen. Follow these steps to ensure everything fits snugly back together:

  • Insert the clean nib and feed back into the pen, aligning the notches correctly.
  • Hold the nib and feed assembly firmly and twist it clockwise until it is securely in place.
  • Screw the pen barrel back onto the nib section until snug.

By following these steps, you can effectively clean and maintain the ink flow of your lamy safari fountain pen. Regular cleaning not only ensures optimal performance but also extends the life of your pen. Enjoy the smooth, uninterrupted writing experience that a clean lamy safari can provide!

Maintaining And Storing Your Lamy Safari

To keep your lamy safari pen clean and well-maintained, follow these simple steps. Use warm water and a mild detergent to gently clean the pen, making sure to remove any ink residue. After cleaning, store the pen in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight to ensure its longevity.

Lamy safari is a popular fountain pen among writing enthusiasts and professionals, known for its sturdy build and smooth writing experience. To ensure that your lamy safari lasts for years to come, it’s crucial to maintain and store the pen properly.

Follow these tips to keep your lamy safari in excellent condition:

Drying The Pen Thoroughly After Cleaning:

  • After cleaning your lamy safari, it’s essential to dry it thoroughly to prevent any lingering moisture that may damage the pen or affect its performance. Here’s how:
  • Gently pat dry the pen with a clean, lint-free cloth to remove any excess water.
  • Leave the pen uncapped and upside down in a well-ventilated area to allow the nib and ink cartridge to dry completely.
  • Avoid using heat sources such as hairdryers or direct sunlight for drying, as they can cause damage to the pen.

Properly Storing The Pen To Prevent Ink Drying:

  • Proper storage of your lamy safari is essential to prevent ink from drying out and clogging the nib. Follow these storage guidelines:
  • Always cap your pen when not in use to create an airtight seal and prevent the ink from drying out.
  • Store the pen in an upright position to ensure proper ink flow and prevent leakage.
  • Keep the pen away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight, as they can affect the ink quality and pen materials.

Regular Maintenance Tips For Long-Lasting Use:

  • Consistent maintenance is key to ensuring your lamy safari remains in optimal condition. Consider the following tips for long-lasting use:
  • Flush the pen with clean water every few weeks to remove any accumulated ink residue. Simply disassemble the pen, rinse the nib section with water, and reassemble after drying.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or solvents to clean the pen, as they can damage its components.
  • Use the recommended lamy ink cartridges or a converter to refill the pen. Non-compatible inks may cause clogging or affect the pen’s writing performance.
  • If you plan to store the pen for an extended period, empty the ink cartridge or converter to prevent ink evaporation or leakage.

Properly maintaining and storing your lamy safari will not only prolong its lifespan but also ensure a consistent and enjoyable writing experience. By following these tips, you can keep your pen in prime condition for years to come.

Ink leaking or excessive flow after cleaning:

  • Pen leaks ink or has excessive ink flow after cleaning. This can be frustrating, but there are a few things you can try to address the issue:
  • Check the ink cartridge or converter: Ensure they are properly seated in the pen. If not, reinsert them securely.
  • Clean the nib and feed: Ink residue or debris might be causing the leakage. Gently remove the nib and feed, clean them with water, and reassemble the pen.
  • Check the nib alignment: Misaligned nibs can lead to ink issues. Use your fingers to adjust the nib so it aligns with the feed properly.

Pen not writing properly after cleaning:

  • Your pen might not write properly after cleaning, but don’t worry. Try the following steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
  • Inspect the nib: It might have become misaligned during the cleaning process. Align it properly by adjusting with your fingers.
  • Clean the feed: Ink residue or debris can hinder the ink flow. Remove the nib and feed, clean them with water, and reassemble the pen.

Ink not flowing consistently after cleaning:

  • If you’re facing issues with inconsistent ink flow after cleaning your lamy safari, here are some steps to help resolve the problem:
  • Prime the nib: Dip the nib in water or gently squeeze the cartridge to encourage ink flow. This can help remove any air bubbles or blockages.
  • Check the feed alignment: Make sure the feed is properly aligned with the nib. Misalignment can disrupt ink flow. Adjust it gently with your fingers if needed.
  • Rinse the pen thoroughly: Clean the pen with water to eliminate any ink residue or debris that might be affecting the flow. Make sure to dry it properly before reassembling.

Remember, proper maintenance and regular cleaning will help keep your lamy safari pen in optimal condition and ensure a smooth writing experience.

LAMY Safari: A Comprehensive Guide

The LAMY Safari is a minimalist favorite in the world of writing instruments. Since its launch in the eighties, the LAMY Safari has expanded from fountain pens to include other writing instruments, like rollerballs , ballpoints , and mechanical pencils . LAMY didn’t stop there: a pen made of aluminum known as the AL-Star soon joined the family, followed by the Vista and Lx . In this guide, we’ll discuss the unique features of the Safari and its extended family.

  • What’s the Difference Between the LAMY Safari & AL-Star?

LAMY’s product design is guided by the Bauhaus principle in which form follows function. The LAMY Safari’s designers applied this philosophy to develop a fountain pen that was both utilitarian and appealing to all ages. Since many European schools use fountain pens to teach beginner writers, it was important to create a pen that could stand up to everyday use. To that end, the LAMY Safari is made using sturdy materials and has thoughtful features for a durable and ergonomic pen.

ABS Body

The nibs can be easily switched out to fit any occasion. From tiny notes to bold calligraphy, a Safari can do it all. Read our guide to learn how you can swap nibs on LAMY Safari fountain pens easily.

Another useful feature on the fountain pen is the ink window on the barrel. It lets you know how much ink you have left in your cartridge or converter.

Note that some LAMY Safari fountain pens may come with ink residue on the nib from being dip-tested at the LAMY factory. As with all fountain pens, we recommend cleaning your LAMY Safari before using it.

LAMY Safari Fountain Pen Lineup

LAMY releases special inks to accompany some limited edition pens. Below, we’ll show you how to install an ink cartridge.

Insert the converter into the grip section.

1. Remove the cardboard ring from the pen's barrel. Insert the cartridge into the pen’s grip section. There’s no need to push the cartridge down completely.

Twist the barrel back onto the grip section.

2. Twist the barrel back onto the grip section. Attaching the barrel automatically punctures the ink cartridge.

Leave the pen standing up to saturate the nib.

3. Set the pen aside with the nib pointing down. It may take up to an hour for the ink to reach the feed.

LAMY Safari Rollerball Pen Features

Externally, the LAMY Safari rollerball looks quite similar to its fountain pen sibling, though there are a few small differences.

For example, the finial on top of the cap has a simple line rather than a cross. The rollerball also does not have an ink viewing window.

LAMY Safari Rollerball Pen Lineup

1. Begin by removing the grip from the pen barrel.

Place the refill inside the grip of the pen.

2. Place the refill inside the grip of the pen.

Twist the grip back on the pen barrel.

3. Twist the grip back on the pen barrel.

LAMY Safari Ballpoint Pen Features

The LAMY Safari ballpoint was thoughtfully designed to share a design aesthetic with its Safari siblings, while also having its own unique features. The pen swaps out the cap for a retractable mechanism that makes it easy to write at a moment's notice. Like the rollerball pen, the ballpoint has a molded grip section that is less pronounced while still providing guidance for an ergonomic grip.

The pen comes with a smooth-writing ballpoint refill. The ink isn't particularly vivid or dark, but we find it suitable for everyday use. Plus, a ballpoint will write on surfaces like receipt paper, so it's especially handy to keep with you in a purse or bag.

LAMY Safari Ballpoint Pen Lineup

1. Remove the nose cone from the barrel.

Place the refill inside the barrel of the pen.

2. Place the refill inside the barrel of the pen.

Twist the nose cone back on the pen barrel.

3. Make sure the refill is firmly seated in the pen before screwing on the nose cone.

LAMY Safari Mechanical Pencil Lineup

The included eraser can be replaced with the LZ18 eraser refill . While it erases cleanly, it's also fairly small. We recommend having a separate eraser if you erase frequently or need to erase large sections.

Remove the eraser refill completely.

1. Remove the eraser refill under the eraser cap completely.

Insert one stick of lead into the pencil barrel.

2. Insert one stick of lead into the pencil barrel.

Put the eraser refill back on. Click to advance the lead.

3. Put the eraser refill and cap back on. Click to advance the lead.

LAMY regularly releases limited edition colors for the Safari, AL-Star, and Lx. The unique colors are popular among color enthusiasts and LAMY collectors alike. You can view past colors in the tables below.

I have successfully pulled out my Safari's feed by pulling it slowly and using a soft grip. A bit of wiggle and it should come out without much fuss.

But perhaps I am more adventurous and it shouldn't be done?

arcadeflow

Since these Lamy feeds to not require the nib to complement the pressure when fitted into section, they are pretty tightly inserted. I wouldn't recommend removing them because you might crack it, or loosen the fit. Have you tried a bulb syringe to pump water inside the section?

I did the blub flush and found this, https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/291668-icky-bleep-came-outta-my-pen/

I have used an inexpensive ($40) ultrasonic cleaner with warm water, a drop or 4 of dish detergent, and a few ml of household ammonia to remove all kinds of dried ink from feeds and pen sections. I think the goop that came out is nearly dried ink (or something worse). I've heard of people having to soak a pen grip section for a couple of days to loosen up dried in. The US cleaner is a great investment for pens and other things too. I use it regularly (without the ammonia) to clean our my eyeglasses. Lots of cloudy stuff comes out of the nose piece and between the lenses and the metal rims. Of course it cleans the lenses well too.

One technique I've used is to force the cleaning solution through the pen then let it back flush by letting the bulb loose with the feed in the solution. If you want a tighter fit of the bulb to the section, then cut off the end of a cartridge, insert the cartridge in the pen and flush through the cartridge with the bulb. I've heard of people pressing too hard with the bulb against a Lamy section and cracking the "wings" that surround the end of the cartridge.

Hi, I found that it can be done, but the feeds are a very tight fit, with a detent/bump built in to click the feed into the correct place.

In the end I used two of those cheap 'gripmats', holding the feed at the sides with the nib removed, then pulling sharply, the section and feed did separate.

If you can try the normal soaking methods first, that might be enough.

Ya, thanks all I think I'll just leave the feed in.

You can remove the feed by pulling it out but it will require some good grip and maybe holding it from the "tracks" for the nib.

I've tried gripping from the top and bottom of the feed but its a straight edge and not something you can get a good grip on. If you put your thumb and forefinger on the sides where there are the tracks for the nib, you'll get a much better grip and a light rocking motion as you pull it out, will do the trick.

I've seen that the vistas are easer to get the feed out compared with the safaris.

I recommend an ultrasonic cleaner also. About $35 at Bed Bath & Beyond and use mine almost every weekend. Wonderful!!

Grace and peace to you

:)

Yes, you can. But they are only designed to go back in one way. Make sure it's lined up properly and don't force it back in.

This feed is "friction-fitted". It is "jammed" into position. Yes, you can pull it out.

However, I am not convinced that it is intended to be removed. If good fountain

pen ink is used, and not left to dry, feed disassembly is rarely required. And, if

done too many times, it may leak. I have the ugliest ancient LAMY Vista, ever.

Soaked and flushed, but never disassembled, it writes fine.

Please continue to flush per excellent FPN recommendations. Use good fountain

pen ink. If every you need to disassemble, ask the repair sub-forum. Until then,

don't worry about it.

Write with joy.

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn. Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen: Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

I've taken mine out out of curiosity. But I'd not recommend it. Make a mistake twisting or bending and you'll snap it. You'd probably also get finger oils on it, and interfere with the feed action. But it does come out and not difficultly.

Thanks everybody for the advice, I'll leave it in for now.

dompred

Here you go

This one is for a Lamy Safari but the process is the same for the Al Star and the Vista. I've done it many times on my 2 Al Stars. Beware of not doing it too often as then it becomes very easy to remove (the feed comes off when I try to remove the nib). Although I've never had ink leaks or the feed falling off by itself.

Awesome thank you very much!

  • 2 weeks later...

What can one do if the feed is totally ruined? I tried switching out the nib and bent the feed. Now the whole top part of the feed unit is broken off. I have a Lamy Al-Star and really want to repair it. Goulet said to contact Lamy directly or, if they can't help, just buy a whole new pen. Is there any way to remove the unit from the section or is there a place to get a new section? The guy at Hardwick's (fine writing instrument supplier in my town) said that Lamy probably won't do that. Help!!!!!

grainweevil

Bureau Direct lists spare sections for Al-Stars here , which suggests to me that getting a spare is doable from Lamy too. Take your pick. I suspect it might be cheaper just to buy a new pen, with the shipping costs and so forth.
Thanks again for that info. Lamy was going to charge me 15.00 for the reapir and 9.00 for the unit...not allowed to just buy the unit. I ordered directly from Buy Direct and paid about 15.00 total, including shipping from the UK. Sooo much better than spending almost 40.00 for a new pen.

  12. How do I remove stuck feed (I think because of dried ink) from Lamy

If soaking it to remove the ink doesn't work, you might be in bad luck. There's a small rail on the feed at the bottom that slots into two grooves at the bottom of the mid-section. The tiniest misalignment can cause it to get stuck. 9/10 customers who brought me their pen with this problem had them misaligned.

  14. Lamy Safari feed replace

Re: Lamy Safari feed replace. I would not advise removing the feed. But if you do so, do it very carefully. The feed only goes back one way and it can get stuck if you don't put it back precisely that way. I'm in the US, and it used to be that Lamy USA service would only do a replacement of the entire section and nib unit.

  15. How to Change a LAMY Fountain Pen Nib

    2. Fold the rubber grip liner in half over the nib. 3. Carefully place your index finger and thumb around the sides of the nib with the liner over it. 4. Pull the nib off gently. If the nib doesn't slide off, you can delicately wiggle the nib from side to side to help it come off the feed. 5.

  16. Take apart a Lamy Safari/Vista/etc

With a Vista you can see when it clogs. The section is clear so the feed is visible. An ear squeegee bulb fits nicely into the section and makes it easy to flush. You should never need to remove the feed to clean it in a Safari / Vista. But shellac-based art inks will clog any pen in short order. Ashby.

  18. Lamy Safari feed stuck in section : r/fountainpens

Lamy pens are allegedly tested at the factory so a bit of residue is expected. But to make a feed fet stuck the way you are describing will take a lot of dried ink.
