Our Trips
Cruise ecosse offers an unforgettable bespoke sailing experience. The boat and skipper are chartered to suit your dream cruising holiday and to fulfil your sailing ambitions. Our website itinerary gives you a taste of what we can offer, however, we are keen to accommodate our trips around you. We operate between May and September and make the most of the season by exploring the breath-taking west coast of Scotland. From the western isles and St Kilda, to the small isles and inner Hebrides. Occasionally groups request a trip further afield with an exciting excursion to the Faeroes on our 2024 agenda. The skipper and crew have decades of experience in the area and knowledge of incredible landscapes, local cuisine and the best spots for amazing wildlife encounters. If required, tuition on the yacht is freely available for beginners or experts who are encouraged to develop their skills and confidence.
Aislig Bheag is Gaelic for small dream or vision and pronounced “Aishlick Viack”. She is a Jeanneau Trinidad 48’, which for ease of handling, has roller reefing on the foresail and lazy jacks on the mainsail. The boat is designed for speed and comfort so crew and guests can enjoy some exciting sailing whilst maintaining a tranquil holiday atmosphere. The pilot house is equipped with large panoramic windows, making the main saloon light and airy. She also has plenty of storage for duvets, towels, water proofs and bedding available at a small additional cost. We also store two swings, a number of hammocks, and diving/snorkelling equipment, the use of which is highly encouraged.
John has skippered Aislig Bheag since 2002. As a sailing enthusiast since a boy he has sailed extensively around the west coast of Scotland and occasionally further afield to the Faeroe’s, Norway, Russia, the Mediterranean and Caribbean.
Emma has a background in wildlife guiding on the west coast of Scotland, tracking a variety of cetaceans and sea birds. She graduated from Glasgow University with a MSc in Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law. Emma has done a number of courses including marine mammal medic training and marine mammal observer/analyst. She loves being at sea and is currently working through her yacht master training. In her spare time she enjoys photography and is keen to share and pictures or drone footage from your trips.
Gordon is a yachtmaster with many thousands of miles under his belt skippering yachts on deliveries and charters around the World. He has a long experience of sailing on the West coast of Scotland and is happy to help plan itineries to suit clients wishes.

Visit islands, secluded anchorages and view wild life in its natural environment while making passage in a luxurious ocean going sailing yacht.Your ‘home for the weekend is the "AisligBheag" (Gaelic for small dream or vision and is pronounced AishlickVaick in a soft lilting highland accent). She is a Jeanneau Trinidad 48', which for ease of handling, has roller reefing on the foresail and lazyjacks on the mainsail. The inconspicuous pilot house is equipped with large panaoramic windows making the main saloon light and airy. She is built for speed and comfort with plenty of room for the crew to sleep, eat and relax in. The Skippers prepare the meals but need help with the washing up. For more information visit the “Cruise Ecosse Ltd” web site at www.cruise-ecosse.co.uk. Joining instructions and a kit list are sent out prior to the event.
The price includes 3 nights on board, tuition, the use of all safety equipment, meals and snacks. If you have a favourite nibble or tipple you are welcome to bring it along.
Arrive Friday evening at Oban. During the first evening you meet the Skipper and get to know your sailing colleagues. Then it’s time for a safety briefing followed by a demonstration of the yacht’s equipment and, if possible, a short practice sail in sheltered waters where the Skipper will show you how to steer the yacht and handle the sails. A home cooked evening meal can be taken before, after (or instead of!) the evening sail. Friday night will probably be spent at a mooring in ObanBay. In the morning, with a fair wind, we will set sail across the Firth of Lorne. The crew’s progress in learning how to handle the yacht, and the wind direction, will decide on Saturday evening’s destination. It would be our intention to sail around the Island of Mull over a 3 day weekend and visit the Islands off the west of Mull like Iona and Staffa.. This also applies to whether we stop for lunch or eat while sailing. Our second night will be at a remote anchorage such as Tinker’s Hole or the Island of Ulva. Our third night will probably be spent in TobermoryBay where we can end up enjoying the local nightlife. Whatever our destinations we will stop in sheltered waters and the yacht’s inflatable tender may be used for excursions ashore. All too soon it will be Monday morning and, with the crew developing confidence in their sailing abilities, passage will be made back to Oban. By early afternoon the yacht will be berthed on the pontoon where after a quick lunch it’s all hands on deck to wash and tidy the yacht before disembarking.
Cars may be parked free of charge at Oban. Scotrail run a regular service between Glasgow Queen Street station and Oban.Citylink run 3 express coaches a day from Glasgow and once a day from Edinburgh.
