The answer is YES! Who would’ve thought like ten years ago that a platform like Instagram could eventually lead people to pursue their passion, such as traveling while earning a full-time income ? The content creators, who have some of the best travel pages on Instagram , generate their income mostly from tourism and brand sponsored content. Today, tourism boards hire Influencers with a trendsetting travel Instagram accounts to promote their country’s tourism spots.

According to a  National Geographic  report, travel influencers provide an incredible amount of investment when it comes to promoting tourism.  As a result, influencers with a big following and an aspirational travel Instagram pages get hired sometimes on a monthly basis, raking in full-time income while traveling the world. If you’ve ever wondered how to become a travel influencer , your travel Instagram needs to hone and focus on a specific niche to establish yourself as a thought leader and an authority in that subject.  Traveling is a huge niche with so many sub-niches you can focus on. The different types of travel niches are adventure travel, luxury travel, health and wellness travel, gastro tourism, themed cruises, tropical/island travel, hiking, winter destinations, and so on. Picking one (or if you can blend a couple of other sub-niches through your content), can help you establish authority over the subject.

An example of a travel Instagrammer in the adventure sub-niche would be posting content related to exploring mostly wild, outdoor, and exotic locations that requires a bit of adrenaline. Another photography basics are lighting, where travel influencers mostly shoot during a specific time of day (mostly in the early morning) to have the softest lighting possible.  Apart from learning the basics of photography , many travel influencers use Presets to improve their pictures. These days, it’s pretty rare for a travel influencer not to have a preset of their own that they sell so that you can easily copy their feed. If you prefer not to spend money on presets, you can still improve your pictures by knowing some tips and tricks on how to improve  Instagram filters .  Lastly, taking exceptional photos also doesn’t mean having the fanciest and most expensive equipment. For us, we do use a professional camera that helps us create some of our best content. However, there are also moments where a picture looks just as great as using an iPhone. 

Take Great Videos

Mastering Videos is another medium that travel Instagrammers need to master. We especially like to take videos on our travels and make it a point to post on our feed. Videos allow us to capture our experience on our travels better than images can. Editing is one of the necessary skills in creating a powerful Instagram travel video. Great editing would quickly tell a story and draw your viewers to keep watching the video. Focus using some of your best shots on the first five to ten seconds of your video to ensure you captivate your audience’s attention.  Consider using video editing apps such as Adobe Premiere Pro , or edit videos directly on your phone with apps such as Videorama . Both of these editing apps are user friendly and easy to follow and master. 

After you’ve mastered the editing portion, the next step is selecting the right music that goes along well with your travel videos.  Some of the equipment to use to build our Instagram travel pages are drones, a professional camera, and an iPhone. We especially love drone shots because it allows us to capture certain angles that would otherwise be impossible. Professional cameras can capture quality videos as well and are high on the ground level. Lastly, iPhones are also excellent quality for capturing videos for stories.

Travel Instagram Stories

Instagram stories are, without a doubt, one of the platform’s popular outlet.  Considering that editing photos and videos take time, posting on Instagram stories about your travels allows you to give a preview of what’s to come. For us, we rarely post our content on our feed immediately following our travels. The amount of time it takes to edit a video and photograph just takes too long. 

As a result, content creators use Instagram stories to share their content immediately. The posts are typically instantaneous and don’t require editing effort. Instagram stories also allow their followers to get an instant glimpse of their travels, and allow content creators to document everything that is happening during their travels and share them with their followers. It’s fun and a great way to interact with your followers. Instagram stories are such a powerful medium to take your travel Instagram to the next level because it allows you to go off-brand. Regardless of being a travel influencer, posting content not related to travel is entirely acceptable and won’t be seen as ‘weird.’ Posting content not related to your niche allows you to show off a little bit about yourself and other things that your followers can relate to.

Instagram is simple, it’s visual and it creates a quick emotional impact! It’s also a great way to discover new places around the world. No wonder I’m always seeking the best Instagram travel accounts to follow!

Even though I despise the direction Instagram is going, with self-proclaimed influencers spreading like wildfire ( beautypreneurs is a thing now…) I confess I do spend a significant amount of time there .

Sometimes double tapping cat videos. Sometimes stalking my friends. But I’m especially interested in new travel inspiration. And now I’m sharing them with you (the travel content, not the cats).

So let's change that. Let's make writing our about pages as easy as talking to a friend.

Your "About" page is more than a digital business card or an autobiography squeezed into a page. It needs to contain your travel agent bio, but it's also more than that.

With the right words, it can be a page that pulses with personality and whispers about distant wonders while showcasing the fantastic travel advisor you are.

Unfortunately, many travel agent bios are about as thrilling as reading the safety card on a plane. They do nothing for your travel agent marketing efforts. They may even turn off the potential clients you're hoping to attract!

Why an authentic "About" page matters

The travel industry thrives on trust. That means your "About" page does more than just let people know you exist. It should also build connections that span locations and time zones.

An "About" page doesn't have to have a bunch of paragraphs. In fact, it shouldn't.

Paragraphs can be exhausting in our TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter-focused soundbite world. Your text should be skimmable and easy to read because, let's face it, most people aren't reading every word of anything.

You can choose from several structures, including the basic, the FAQ, and the "10 things I hate about you" (shoutout to the '90s teens!). There's even a combo platter option for those of us who can't decide on just one!

The Basic Bio

You want to answer the basic questions a potential client has. Who you are, what you do, where you do it, and why you do it. Make each of those a section heading, like "Who I work with" and "Why I plan cruises."

Keep your answers simple, and use words your client would know and use.

Speak to those needs and desires with sentences like "We make it easy to plan that picture-perfect vacation you've wanted" and "Have an Instagram feed that makes all your friends jealous."

Adapt this strategy to use the words your ideal client would relate to, and your website becomes magic.

Think of this as random facts, but with intention. Do you love Italy but hate pasta? There's an unexpected but fascinating fact about you!

You could include things like a favorite food, a skill that most people don't know about, or a travel quirk that you have.

A section on your travel bio with ten things you love about your work is also great. Let potential customers know more about what you do and why you enjoy it.

Step 3: Remember the CTA!

Every page on your website, including your "About" page, must have a call-to-action, or CTA.

The last thing you want is for someone to read your "About" page and think, "Yes! They seem awesome and I want to work with them!" and then have to search for what to do next.

That's a great way to lose a potential client, so make it easy for them. Include their next step right there while browsing your page.

For travel agencies, Instagram has proven to be a powerful visual platform. Seeing is believing, and that couldn’t be any more accurate than it is with the travel industry! With this platform, users are able to create stimulating and breathtaking visuals that give viewers their very own taste of that experience. 84% of millennials  and 73% of non-millennials are more likely to plan a trip based on someone else’s photos!

Now that you know WHY you should use Instagram, here is HOW you should do it!

Starting an Instagram account for your travel agency

Your bio section is the first thing a customer will see when they click on your profile, so you’ll want to choose wisely what you say about yourself. Take it a step further and add a link in your bio. You can use your website or if you’re registered with Later, you can utilize their “ Link in Bio ” feature. With this option, you have the ability for each individual photo to have a specific link.

On Instagram, you’ll find many niches ranging from health and fitness, all the way to family and parenting. As a travel agency, you’ll want to identify your specific niche , whether that be:

• Backpacking
• Family Travel

At large, selling travel is reviewing and recommending places to stay and eat, as well as ways to get around, different products or airlines.

This is the fun part! As a brand, you want to make sure you’ve identified the look and feel you want to communicate. Are your brand colors clean and sleek, or are they more earthy and warm? It doesn’t hurt to look at other profiles for some inspiration .

Once you visually plan your content, you can actually start posting. More importantly, you’ll want to understand the demographics of your audience, as that determines how frequently you should post. The key is to post enough to engage your followers and to be consistent, but not so much that you bore your followers or worse, cause them to unfollow you.

With over 500 million  people watching Instagram stories, there’s a high chance your stories will be viewed as well. The trick is to use stories to engage with your followers. 6. Using influencers

Your customers are your influencers! Don’t neglect the value of a customer posting about their vacation and tagging you.

Every customer is a potential influencer, so never neglect the value of them posting about their trips and mentioning you. Influencers range all the way from nano and micro to macro-influencers. It all depends on the size of the following. However, keep in mind that macro-influencers do not necessarily mean more engagement or a higher ROI. In fact, it’s better to work with micro-influencers  who are in your niche.

When working with influencers, they will either charge per post or exchange it for a service you provide. When doing this, they get to experience your tours first hand and in return talk about it through their posts! What’s even better is that most people are more willing to try something out if their favorite influencer has already done so or just simply talks about it!

Influencers are already talking to your audience, so what better than to partner with them? For a fraction of what it costs for traditional marketing, you still gain access to your customers and your brand is introduced through an authentic and trusted source. When your product is featured or mentioned by an influencer, it looks more like a recommendation from a friend, rather than a celebrity endorsement. This makes all the difference as a small travel agency trying to establish yourself within the industry!

7. Call to action

Gif stickers  are a fun way to add a personal touch to Instagram stories. Did you know they can also generate a call to action (CTA)? Using Gif stickers is a great way to get your point across without sounding too pushy. Stickers such as, “Swipe Up, Tap Here, and Learn More” can all be used to enhance your stories. Keep in mind that although you can use these stickers, they will not link to a website until your account has reached over 10,000 followers.

Until you reach 10,000 followers, another useful feature is “Link in bio,” as already mentioned. As a travel agency, you aren’t necessarily selling a product–more so a service, so shoppable posts are not something you’ll be investing your time into. However, with a link in bio option, you still have the opportunity to link your posts to a site–whether to a blog post or to different company’s site. Ultimately, the goal with CTAs is to make them as easy and as obvious as possible to your followers! Show them you value their time. If you’re having trouble identifying your CTAs or determining if it will attract your audience, ask yourself if the CTA would intrigue you enough to click.

8. Using Analytics

See how implementing these steps have made a difference for your Instagram account! Since your account is a business profile, you can access Instagram Analytics . You can find this by clicking the right-hand side of your profile page.

Insights are broken down into three categories: Content, Activity, and Audience. With each feature, you can see a breakdown of your Instagram performance, such as new followers, profile views, impressions, reach, etc.! You can also check out the demographics of your followers, such as gender, age, location, and activity time peaks.

*Keep in mind that these demographics are  only available after reaching 100 followers*

You can also use Instagram Analytics to analyze your story posts! Similar to feed posts, you’ll need to click the three bars on the right-hand side of your profile page, and “Insights” again. Next, you’ll want to go under the “Content” tab and you’ll then be able to view data specifically for your stories. Another option is to go in your stories tab and just swipe up. This is what it will look like.

Understanding these insights can be influential in driving sales and traffic to your site and increasing engagement or followers! You learn what content your followers enjoy seeing as well as when they are most active. However, using Instagram analytics is more than just finding the best performing photos, stories, or videos. It is truly understanding how you can use key Instagram metrics to develop a successful content strategy for your business.

Want to take an affordable vacation in 2024? You’ve come to the right place. Although travel costs are on the rise this year ( up 3.1% ), it’s still possible to save money in 2024—if you know where to go.

A new travel report from the U.K.’s Post Office —a British-based mail and financial services company — has just unveiled some of the most budget-friendly destinations for 2024. And although the annual report is aimed at U.K. travelers, it’s a helpful list for Americans, too.

By analyzing currency strengths, local prices and essential tourist expenses in 40 popular vacation destinations around the globe, the Holiday Money Report 2024 highlights some of the cheapest places to travel. The report ranks the destinations based on a barometer that takes the local price of eight tourist essentials into consideration—including coffee, beer, cola, wine, water, sunscreen, insect repellent and a three-course meal. And while the report doesn’t include factors like hotels and airfare, it helps give a good sense of where your dollars will stretch the furthest.

This is the 18th year that the Post Office has done this report. And the good news: Prices have fallen since last year in 25 spots on the list. (A note that the original report included prices in pounds sterling, which have been converted into dollars here, using the exchange rate on the date of publication of 1.26.)

Leading the list as the cheapest place to travel right now is Hoi An, Vietnam. According to the Post Office report, a total estimated cost of just $64.51 a day for the travel essentials makes this charming gem the ultimate bang-for-your-buck destination that won’t break the bank. Located on the central coast of Vietnam, Hoi An entices visitors with its UNESCO -recognized Ancient Town, a picturesque spot where lantern-lit streets lead to quaint shops and street food stalls. It is also convenient to stunning white-sand beaches—some of the most beautiful in Asia .

Helping drive this ranking was the cost of a glass of wine (an average of only $4.56) and a bottle of water (averaging 77¢).

Rounding out the top five is the Algarve in Portugal, which combines culture, history and natural beauty at a fraction of the cost compared to previous years.
