Michigander

Partnership & transition.

Our friends at the League of Michigan Bicyclists (LMB) now host the Michigander.

Your participation over the years has helped broaden the rail and multi-use trail systems, making Michigan the Trail State. MTGA is excited about this new chapter in the history of the beloved Michigander Tour. We shifted the event to LMB because of their years of experience running top-notch multi-day fundraising rides. Great news – Michigander still supports MTGA’s mission, as LMB is committed to granting 20% of the net proceeds to linear trail projects across the state. Your participation is needed more than ever to continue this vital work and broaden the beneficial partnership between the two organizations. The best way to support the LMB and this partnership is to ride your bike on the Michigander!

Description

TOUR THE TWO PENINSULAS

The 29th annual Michigander Bicycle Tour, Tour the Two Peninsulas , will take place July 13-18 along the beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline in Northwest Michigan. This tour showcases Lake Michigan, TART Trails, and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore as it travels to Traverse City, Old Mission Peninsula, Suttons Bay, Frankfort, Glen Arbor and Crystal Mountain. Riders will enjoy picturesque views of Lake Michigan as they travel along the Leelanau Trail, Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, and Betsie Valley Trail.

Leelanau County is known as the Land of Delight, for its beautiful protected lands, waterways, and coastlines. The featured Leelanau Trail travels from Traverse City to Suttons Bay. The tour also features the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, which extends from Empire to Glen Arbor, and the Betsie Valley Trail, which connects Frankfort and Thompsonville.

The tour offers a choice between a 1 to 6-day ride. 6-Day riders begin and end in Traverse City. A 2-Day ride is offered both from Traverse City and Frankfort. Single day riders must provide their own transportation back to their car. Most routes are on paved trails and with interconnecting, paved back roads. The Betsie Valley Trail has a crushed limestone surface for 13 miles from Beulah to Thompsonville. For 6-Day riders, this section of crushed limestone is only 4% out of the total number of miles.

Welcome to DALMAC – Michigan’s Epic Labor Day Weekend Bicycle Tour

DALMAC Webinar Series

Riding dalmac.

Welcome to DALMAC 2024. We have a great tour planned for you. We are adding a gravel route for 2024 – we listened to rider feedback and created a route that will shadow the 5 Day East route. The overnight stops will be the same as the 5 Day East route. We have designed the East routes so that you can pick and choose routes. Want to spend a day on gravel, then move to paved road the next day? No problem. How about doing the last day on the trail? You can do that. This makes the East routes the most flexible and varied. We hope to see you on East in 2024.

We have decided to hold the line on the price for DALMAC. The 2024 DALMAC will cost the same as the 2023 tour. All the same great stops, all the services we provide, and all the fun with new and old friends for the same low price. The proceeds from DALMAC are donated to the DALMAC Fund, Inc. to provide bicycle related grants throughout Michigan. Take a look at the DALMAC Fund page on this site to see the great work that the DALMAC fund does.

Have questions? Please send and email to [email protected] and I will respond as quickly as possible.

DALMAC Uses Ride with GPS.

DALMAC is using a RideWithGPS Experience. This allows riders to have navigation on their phone even if they don’t have a RidWithGPS account. Riders can download routes from it for use on there GPS. It also has information like SAG and other phone numbers, meal times, bus and bike loading times, repair truck stop locations, PSM locations and E-bike battery exchange locations. This is good to have on your phone even if you are not using it for navigation for all the information plus it gives you a backup.

The DALMAC Story

Little did then-state Rep. Dick Allen know that an upstart ride in 1971 from Michigan’s capitol to the Mackinac Bridge would evolve into one of the state’s longest-running multi-day bike tours.

2024 is the 53 rd D ick A llen L ansing to MAC kinaw Bicycle Tour! The DALMAC is Michigan’s annual, fully supported, epic end-of-summer bicycle camping tour. Routes wind northward from Michigan State University on country roads and through quaint small towns, ending in historic and beautiful Mackinaw City.

Whether you are new to cycling or an old hand, there are adventures to be had, friendships to be made, and hills to climb.

michigander bike tour 2023

DALMAC is one of the oldest, lowest cost, all-volunteer-run bicycling tours in the country , celebrating its 52 nd year in 2023. DALMAC is about the fun of bicycling and sharing the roads! DALMAC originated in 1971 when former state Rep. Dick Allen challenged his friends, colleagues, and constituents to “ride all the way to the bridge” to prove that bikes and cars could share Michigan roads safely. DALMAC seeks to develop an awareness of bicyclists and their needs among the citizens of Michigan, to promote bicycling as a healthy means of transportation and recreation, and to encourage wider use of bicycles. DALMAC is organized and staffed by volunteers of the Lansing-based Tri-County Bicycle Association (TCBA)

Five months to PALM XLI

Letter from the chair.

Hello PALM alumni,

I wanted to take a moment to say hello and introduce myself for those who might not know me yet. My name is Jess Rasmussen, and I was recently elected to be the 2024 PALM Chair.

I have a special affection for this ride; PALM 10 was my first bicycle tour. I started riding with my grandfather. After he passed, I conned my mother and grandmother into riding with me. We have now had four generations ride with us. I am so very blessed to have added an entire PALM family over the years.

I look forward to working with our amazing volunteers and riders to make this a great year! Our co-chairs Shawn Towsley and Paul LaRose are contacting schools and securing sites with the amenities we need. Our great route team will create the safest routes we can with the tools we have. Local input is welcome for cyclist-friendly roads.

We have a goal to reach more riders this year to join us. Any and all ideas are welcome. Thank you for helping us make PALM more than just another bicycle tour — thank you for making PALM a family.

2022 Michigander Bike Tour on the Great Lake to Lake Trail #1

Ever want to bike across Michigan from Lake Michigan to Lake Huron? Want to do it carefree on rail-trails with a small portion on quiet back roads? Want to ride through a tunnel of trees, along classic pastoral landscapes and enjoy the company of friends old and new? Want to be fully supported along the way with folks to handle your luggage, campsites, and meals? Then the Michigander is for you!

The Michigander has been pedaling across Michigan since 1992 exploring over 2,300 miles of trails around the state. Yes that makes this the 30th anniversary for one of the nation's oldest, biggest and longest rail trail based bicycle tours. The Michigander Bike Tour has confirmed it will ride the entire length of the Great Lake-To-Lake Trail #1 for 2022!

michigander bike tour 2023

This year the League of Michigan Bicyclists (LMB) takes over registration and the day to day management of the Michigander. LMB is no stranger to bicycle touring having organized their own decades old tours like Shoreline West, MUP and Sunrise. LMB is the leading bicycling advocacy group in Michigan and incremental in passing legislation to protect bicyclists along Michigan's roadways and trails, they produce the handy "What Every Michigan Bicyclist Must Know" booklet and conduct training for law enforcement and new drivers. It was only logical that longtime Michigander organizer Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance tap LMB to take over the tour.

This family friendly tour will get underway in South Haven at Baseline Middle School on July 25. You can find additional details and registration at LMB's website .

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
