Background: The Evolution of Travel Trailers

Travel trailers have come a long way since their inception. Let’s take a brief look at the history and evolution of travel trailers.

As automobiles became more popular, travel trailers evolved to be towed by cars and trucks.

In the early days, travel trailers were basic and utilitarian, offering minimal amenities. What are the 10 Best Travel Trailer Brands and Models?

Published on May 23rd, 2022 by Ray & Tammy Roman This post was updated on October 5th, 2023

One of the most frequent questions we get from new and experienced RV enthusiasts alike is: What are the best travel trailer brands to consider buying? This is a crucial consideration because your travel trailer is more than just a vehicle—it’s your home on wheels. Let’s explore some brands that consistently receive high marks for quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction.

Discovering the Best Travel Trailer Brands in 2023: A Guide for Every RVer

Deciding on “the best brand” of anything is subjective. The answer is as unique as you are. Discovering it largely depends on your specific RV travel needs, budget, family size, and personal preferences. he answer also depends on finding the  best truck for your camper .

The Gold Standard: How Do You Choose the Best Travel Trailer Brands of 2023?

What distinguishes the elite from the average in the world of travel trailers? After analyzing feedback from RV enthusiasts and combing through industry reviews, we have identified three things to keep in mind as you shop for your ultimate travel trailer brand.

1. Road-Tested Reliability

When it comes to RVs, it’s not a question of if you’ll encounter issues, but when. With that in mind, the reliability of a travel trailer should be your most critical consideration. The most trusted travel trailer brands inspire confidence based on sterling reviews. That feedback isn’t just from RV industry cheerleaders, but from the real experts – everyday RV owners like you and me.

Don’t fall for the shiny objects shown in walk-through YouTube reviews. Instead, dig deeper and seek out firsthand experiences from actual owners. Start with RV communities such as the iRV2 Discussion Forums . This is one of many excellent ways to get unbiased ratings and insights from owners of the brands you are curious about. Start engaging in discussions about the real-world performance and reliability of the camper you’re interested in.

2. Value for Your Money

Price matters, but not always in the way you might think. While we all love a bargain, when it comes to travel trailers that a lower sticker price can often be a sign of mass production that leads to compromised quality. #2. grand design rv imagine.

Grand Design RV is another one of the best travel trailer brands. They have a loyal and raving fan base that considers their travel trailers some better overall brands in the industry.

Happy Grand Design Travel Trailer owners (Image: @AKA…Neil, iRV2 Forums member)

I have seen many owner reviews of Grand Design campers who rave about the quality of these units and the outstanding customer service. For me, a list of the best travel trailer brands would not be complete without Grand Design.

The company is located in Middlebury, IN. All their towables and fifth wheels come with a 3-year limited structural warranty. Imagine XLS is one of my favorites due to its excellent styling, features, and amenities. Grand Design has only been around since 2001 and today it operates as an independent business within Winnebago Industries. This line of campers is definitely on our short list of the best travel trailer brands in 2023.

Why I Recommend the Grand Design Imagine

The Imagine travel trailer line is my preferred bumper-pull from this RV manufacturer. There are several reasons I like the Imagine trailer. First off, it comes in 21 different floor plans. Even the smallest model comes with a queen-sized bed. There is no way I would want a travel trailer with anything smaller than a queen bed.

Grand Design Imagine Specifications

11 different floor plans in 3 lines, length: from 19 ft 11-inches to 36-feet 11-inches, one-piece roof membrane with 12-year warranty, arctic 4-seasons package, aluminum framed fully laminated sidewalls, uvw: 3,560 lbs to 8,394 lbs, gel-coated fiberglass exterior, double-insulated floor, roof, and front cap, heated and enclosed dump valves, factory installed rv solar power system.

The Imagine is also loaded with a ton of standard features. Here are just a few of the ones that stand out for me and for what I’m looking for:

Solid hardwood drawer fronts

Upgraded residential furniture, large double door refrigerator, large panoramic windows, residential quality countertops, 3-burner range with oven.

The Oliver Legacy Elite 2

Inside the Legacy Elite 2 (Image: Oliver Travel Trailers)

The Oliver Legacy Elite 2 pictured above is my favorite model and probably one of their top-rated all-fiberglass campers. I like the Elite 2 for several reasons. I like that it has a dry weight of just 4,600 pounds. It can be towed with a good truck or full-size SUV. Keep in mind that 4,600 pounds is just the dry weight. For towing, you need to consider cargo weight too.

The Legacy Elite 2 comes in two-floor plans. One with twin beds and the with a dinette to 75″ x 79″ bed conversion. This model is loaded with standard features.

Headquartered in Forest River, Iowa, the company builds a huge selection of RVs, including high-quality motorhomes, campers, fifth wheels, and toy haulers.

Winnebago Micro Minnie (Image: Winnebago)

Winnebago makes five popular travel trailer models as of 2023. One of the best travel trailer brands for new RVers and experienced ones alike is the Micro Minnie (which replaced the older Minnie Drop model that made our former list of the best travel trailers.

What I Like About the Micro Minnie

When it comes to striking a balance between compactness and living comfort, the Micro Minnie travel trailers hit the nail right on the head. These little marvels of RV engineering manage to pack a ton of amenities into a small, easy-to-tow package, proving that you don’t have to go big to enjoy the perks of home on the road.

Despite their size, Micro Minnies don’t skimp on the essentials. Step inside to enjoy a fully-equipped kitchen that comes with a double-door refrigerator, a three-burner stove, and even a microwave. So, whether you’re warming up last night’s leftovers or cooking a full-course meal, you’ve got everything you need right there.

A key aspect of Micro Minnies’ appeal is their towability. With a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 5,500 to 6,000 pounds, depending on the model, they can be comfortably towed by a variety of vehicles. Mid-size SUVs, pickup trucks, and some of the beefier crossovers make suitable companions for these compact travel trailers.

One thing to keep in mind with the Happier Camper is that it does not have a typical toilet setup. The Happier Camper has a “ Dry Flush” toilet for RVs . That is the only drawback I see to this camper trailer. Remember, it is small, so don’t expect much room, but that is how it’s been designed. It’s modern, and makes exceptional use of the small interior.

Prior to the Autumn Ridge, the 2019 Starcraft Mossy Oak travel trailer was my preferred choice. This was a spacious camper available in 11-floor plans, including several travel trailer models with bunk beds . The Mossy Oak came in lengths from 23’4″ to 36’5″, making it the best predecessor of the Starcraft Autumn Ridge. Consider Renting An RV Through Outdoorsy Or A Dealership Before Buying

If you are new to the world of RV travel and RV shopping, then you really want to take your time finding the best brand which is right for you.

Attending trade shows and spending a slow Saturday touring the local RV dealerships, is a great way to familiarize yourself with your options and the accessories that you want to prioritize.

There are some RV dealership who will let you rent a unit ,  or perhaps even take  “Last Years Model”  for a weekend test run. Rental companies sometimes offer RV’s as part of their available fleet as well.

Yet, these options tend to cost a little more. If you really want to take your time, and perhaps take more than one or two models for the proverbial “Spin” you might want to look into sites like Outdoorsy and RVshare .

These are user-to-user interfaces that allow potential renters to connect with private owners.

Many times, the owners will allow you to rent one of their relatively new units for a price that could be half of what a dealership or rental company offers.

This makes Outdoorsy and RV share a great place to get your feet wet, without having to first make a major investment or having a pushy salesperson standing over your shoulder.

By: Author The Drivin' & Vibin' Team

Posted on December 16, 2021

It seems like there are about 10 billion types of travel trailers on the market today, which can get overwhelming when you’re shopping. How do you know what’s good and what isn’t?

If you want a travel trailer that lasts and a great customer service experience, you need to choose your manufacturer wisely.

We know the RV industry well and compiled this list of seven of the best travel trailer manufacturers for 2022 and beyond.

What Is a Travel Trailer?

A travel trailer is an RV trailer that hitches to the bumper of a tow vehicle. Depending on the size and weight, you can pull a travel trailer with a truck or an SUV.

Travel trailers come in many lengths, ranging from around 17’ up to 35’ or longer.

Travel trailers are an attractive option for RVers on a budget because they’re the lowest-priced RV type on the market. Luxury brands cost more, but overall, travel trailers are a great option for budget-savvy campers.

Pro Tip: Unsure if a travel trailer is right for you? This is Why You Should Choose a Travel Trailer RV .

What Makes a Travel Trailer Manufacturer Great?

Our list of the best travel trailer manufacturers comes down to a few key considerations. Here’s our list of criteria.

Builds Travel Trailers That Last

A great travel trailer manufacturer not only builds aesthetically pleasing RVs but its travel trailers also last.

These trailers can stand up to the rigors and stresses of RV life. It’s not surprising to see vintage models still on the road today.

Offers Versatile Floorplans

A great travel trailer manufacturer knows a “one-size-fits-all” floorplan doesn’t work for every RVer. Everyone has different needs. Some RVers have a family and want bunk beds for the kids.

Others are full-time and want a layout with plenty of open space and storage. And others just want the most functional layout possible.

With quality manufacturers, you’ll find a great variety of floorplans, so you can select one that suits your needs.

Has Top-Notch Customer Service

The best travel trailer manufacturers have top-notch customer service. What good is a long-lasting camper or a great floorplan if the manufacturer doesn’t back you up?

These manufacturers have a track record for incredible customer service time and time again.

12 Best 4 Season Travel Trailer Brands for 2024

4 Season Travel Trailer Brands

Sharing is caring!

Thanks for your support! If you make a purchase using our links in this article, we may make a commission. And, as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. See the full disclosure here .

4 season travel trailers are a good option for those who are interested in bringing their trailer out during the winter. But which are the best 4 season travel trailer brands?

Four-season travel trailers, also known as all-season travel trailers, generally have better insulation and are all around better prepared for winter than other travel trailers. Therefore, if you are interested in RV camping in the winter, you will want to purchase a 4 season travel trailer.

When you start to look for the best travel trailer for you, you might not know where to start. The first thing you should do is figure out what the best brands are.

This way you can narrow your search so that you only need to look at a few brands. Luckily, there are a few brands that stand out from the rest as four-season travel trailer sellers.

When you decide to purchase a travel trailer, you are making a big financial commitment. Travel trailers, RVs, and campers are expensive and as a result, you need to do a lot of research so that you make the right purchase.

What Makes a Travel Trailer 4 Season?

When you are searching for a 4 season travel trailer, you are looking for a trailer that can be used no matter the weather. As a result, you need a trailer that you can live in when it is extremely cold and extremely hot. So, you need a trailer that has features that make the living area livable.

Some features that are extremely important in a 4 season travel trailer are insulation, heating, and cooling systems.

Insulation makes it so it is difficult for air from the outside to get into the trailer and it is difficult for air inside to get out. The only way air should be able to leave or enter the trailer is through ventilation. However, with the ventilation system, the temperature is regulated so that you do not need to deal with extremely hot or cold air.

Ever wonder what’s in an Arctic package? Check out our article called What’s Included in an RV Arctic Package? to find out all the details!

Lance offers a truly impressive line-up of 4 season travel trailers, with 12 models available at the time of writing. All are super lightweight, ranging from only 3,225 lbs to 6,830 lbs, making it easy to find a trailer that fits your tow vehicle.

Whichever model you pick, you’ll be able to enjoy great features like the Lance exclusive “SkyView” dual-pane radius front window, JBL speakers, and more.

Of course, a great 4 season performance isn’t all the Imagine line has to offer. These trailers also feature industry-first anti-lock braking (ABS) systems for towables in partnership with Lippert Components.

This gives you maximum stopping power, braking stability, and braking control so you can always be safe on the road. Imagine trailers also feature solar power boasting a 180W solar panel and 40A charge controller, so you can camp longer and in more places.

Tips for RV Camping in Freezing Temperatures

Here we will give you a few tips on how to improve your camping experience when it is extremely cold outside.

1. Install and Upgrade Your RV Insulation

Insulation is the most important thing for winter campers. It makes it so your trailer stays warm even when it is extremely cold outside. Without insulation, you will have several very cold nights.

To improve your camper’s insulation , you can do things like seal your windows and doors so that no cold air seeps in through the cracks. You can also install window covering to help insulate your windows. Windows are one of the most difficult places in the trailer to insulate, so it is where you should put the most effort.

2. Install RV Skirting

A great way to keep your camper warmer while camping in freezing temperatures is to add skirting around your travel trailer. Skirting helps to shield the underside of your camper from wind and cold air thereby keeping your tanks, pipes, and even the inside of your RV warmer.

We tried a great product called AirSkirts on our RV and even temperature-tested it! Check out the video below or see our article called AirSkirt Inflatable RV Skirting for Winter and Summer to see why we love AirSkirts and highly recommend them to our readers.

2. Protect Your Plumbing

The last thing you want is to have your plumbing pipes and or tanks freeze while you are in the middle of nowhere on a camping trip. When water freezes it expands which means there is a big risk of pipes cracking and bursting.

So, you need to protect your plumbing before any issues arise. You can do this by putting heat tape on your pipes and hoses.

You can also add a small amount of antifreeze to your holding tanks so that they do not freeze. However, you want to make sure that you do not add too much because that can cause issues as well.

3. Watch Out for Black Ice

Even once you have winterized your travel trailer, you are not completely out of the woods. The winter is one of the most dangerous times to be driving and snow and black ice are two of the biggest reasons for that.

If you do not know, black ice is ice that you cannot see because it blends in with concrete. This type of ice is one of the biggest causes of car crashes during the winter, so you need to be careful while you are on the road.

Check out our article called How to Drive Your RV in the Snow for some really helpful tips! It is especially important to be careful when you are driving with a travel trailer. The larger the vehicle you have, the less control you have over it.

This means that it is a lot easier to lose control of your vehicle, and harder to get it back under control once you lose it. So, you need to be extra careful when driving to avoid crashes.

4. Purchase a Space Heater

Mr-Buddy-Portable-Heater-in-RVBlogger-RV

A lot of people will not do anything to improve their experience once their trailer is fully insulated and their plumbing is protected. However, there are still things you can do to improve your quality of life.

For example, when you are outside your trailer you probably will not have a lot of your electrical equipment on. That sometimes will include your heating system.

So, when you get back to your trailer at the end of the day you will need to heat up your trailer. However, heating systems can take a while to heat a trailer. If you purchase a space heater, it will accelerate the speed at which your trailer heats up which is very nice. We love our Mr. Buddy space heater ! It keeps us and the RV nice and toasty!

5. Inspect Your Furnace Before Leaving

Your furnace is going to have a heavy workload while you are on your winter camping trip. So, it is very important to make sure that it is working properly before you leave.

If you want to inspect it yourself, you should check to make sure that there are not any obstructions that could limit airflow. You should also consider purchasing a dehumidifier to ensure that moisture does not get into your furnace.

Condensation can cause corrosion in your furnace, engine, and pipes. This can cause serious issues, so it is better to play it safe and get a dehumidifier.

Final Words About 4 Season Travel Trailer Brands

After reading, we hope you have all the information you need to purchase the best 4 season travel trailer for you. We know that there is a lot of information to absorb, but it is important to be thorough when you are thinking of making a significant purchase like a travel trailer.

The last thing you want to do is wrap up a lot of money on a travel trailer only to find out that it does not fit your needs. It is better to do your research now and ensure that you have the right fit for the trips you want to take.

When looking for a 4 season travel trailer it is important to find one that has amazing insulation. Insulation is the most important thing for a trailer to be functional in the winter. Without insulation, you will have some very cold nights. You should also look for a trailer with a high-quality furnace.

Many travel trailer brands offer winter packages that you can add on to all or some of their trailers. These packages are usually good options, but it is important to remember that they do not always offer them for all trailers.

So, you need to be aware of that when making your purchase. That being said, as long as you do your research you should be able to find the perfect 4 season travel trailer for you in no time.

We just bought a Northwood Arctic Fox 25Y after a nasty Aspen Trail. Love our new trailer. Even sitting in our back yard with well below freezing temps, it is still at least 20-30 degrees warming inside with no heat on than the Aspen Trail.

In the Lance review you wrote: They produce trailers that will keep you warm in the extreme heat and in the cold. *Is this correct? Thank you

I would stack up my Big Foot 25B25RQ against any of these as a four season trailer.

great infomation I need to find a low cost RV to live in with two beds

The hallmark of a true 4 season travel trailer is that the waste gates are enclosed in the heated underbelly. Some of the trailers on your list have this feature; others do not. The photo of the underside of the Dutchmen shows how the entire length of the waste line is exposed. There is no way that aftermarket heat tape would turn this unit into a 4 season camper. A brand not on your list whose trailers and 5th wheels are all 4 season is Grand Design. They are also lighter and less expensive than the better known brands like Outdoors RV and Arctic Fox.

Thanks for the good information regarding your recommended travel trailers. Very helpful since we will be in the market at the end of the year.

“….I recently realized that I need a fun little nylon cross-body bag but struggled to find something that wasn’t overexposed, wildly expensive, or flimsy. I found my solution...when associate editor Louis Cheslaw brought up Tough Traveler as one of several great brands with bare-bones websites. I hadn’t heard of it but immediately fell for their collection of “ funky bags ,” which use leftovers from other designs to make offbeat little sacks.”

35 Travel Products You'll Feel Like A God Among Mortals For Owning

This travel wallet that'll hold your boarding pass, passport, credit cards, ID, and SO much more will feel like the hammer to your Thor.

Jordan Grigsby

BuzzFeed Staff

1. A portable digital luggage scale  because every time you go to the airport your luggage is a pound overweight and you have to pay those outrageous baggage fees. Hook this bb to your luggage handle, lift it up, and the display will let you know how many more outfits you can cram into your suitcase without going over the weight limit. You'll feel SO godlike looking over at the mortals who are stressing and praying their bag isn't overweight.

reviewer holding digital luggage scale showing a reading of 21.5

You can switch between pound and kilogram measurements.

And check it out on  TikTok !

Promising reviews: "When checking a bag, you always want to know the weight so you don't get charged extra. I was super nervous when this scale weighed a bag at almost 49 pounds knowing that the weight limit was 50 pounds and scales can vary. Was holding my breath when it was put on the scale at the airport and the scale came up as 49 pounds! Relieved and thrilled that this luggage scale was accurate! " — Sky

"This was a great investment. No more guessing what our suitcases weight before getting to the airport. Found the accuracy to be very spot-on . If you check a bag on your travels, you need one of these!" — pax

Get it from Amazon for $10.99+  (available in seven colors/styles and as a pack of two).

2. An Apple AirTag  to keep your anxiety at bay while flying. I mean, who  doesn't  fear their bag being lost? Gods with AirTags, that's who! Put it in your suitcase, wallet, or whatever you're afraid to lose and use the Find My app to always be able to see where your bag is.

reviewer's airtag attached to their bag via a keyring

You can put the AirTag on Lost Mode and receive a notification when it's been detected by the Find My app.

Promising review: "I bought a pair of these AirTags for a trip to France, and I’m so glad I did! First of all, the setup is super easy; I had zero problems and both were done in like five minutes . I put one in my purse and one in my suitcase. On the way back home, the airline lost my luggage. Checked the Find My app where the AirTag is tracked, and I could see that it never left the Charles de Gaulle airport. I felt more assurance being able to track my bag through the app as it made its way across the world back to me . 10/10 would recommend!" — Lindsay Kirby

3. An inflatable foot rest  so you can literally kick your feet up, sit back, and relax like a god while you fly. It can be inflated to three heights and comes with an eye mask, earplugs, dust cover, and drawstring bag. So perfect for children and adults on long flights!

reviewer with the foot rest inflated and their feet up on a flight

Promising review: "This footrest pillow is essential for those who travel very long distances. It is not only uncomfortable but unhealthy to leave feet dangling down for many hours or days at a time while traveling. I purchased this pillow to situate between my airplane seat and the seat in front of mine. It is wonderful to be able to prop my feet up, with bent knees, while watching movies or sleeping. I regularly fly the same route that is about 30 hours (including layovers), and when I am unable to get a seat up front, this footrest pillow keeps me more comfortable at the back of the plane ." — Yvonne N

Get it from Amazon for $24.99  (available in four colors and in a two-pack).

4. And an  inflatable wedge pillow  because after being up at 2 a.m. to make a 6 a.m. flight, you're gonna reaaaaally want a nap and, let's face it, it's nearly impossible to get comfy on a plane. You can also prop your phone up in this and comfortably watch your fave show as you drift off.

reviewer with their head resting on an inflated pillow that rests on their lap and has room for their arms

Promising review:  "I used this on four international flights last month and it made all the difference in the world. It's compact, easy to inflate/deflate, very versatile in how you can position it, doesn't rely on the tray table, and works well for bulkhead seats as well as those with someone in front of you. I can't sleep with my head back without snorting myself awake, so this is a perfect alternative. I can very comfortably lean forward in my seat and sleep almost like I can in a bed.  I'm 6'2" and this pillow is plenty tall enough to just rest on my lap and let me lean forward into it without feeling crunched over.  This pillow will easily let me get enough comfortable periods of sleep on a nine-hour flight that I don't feel completely drained upon arrival. My wife tried mine out before we left on vacation and loved it so much she had me order her one. We both wouldn't travel without them now." — Still Chilly In Colorado

Get it from Amazon for  $24.99.

5. A  two-pack of dip clips  you'll love love love dunking your nuggets and fries in with ease. This  Shark Tank- approved little baby clips right onto your car vent and holds your sauce so you don't have to worry about making a mess or struggling to dip your food in your fave sauce while on the go. You'll fall so deeply in love with it, you'd think it was Aphrodite.

Okay, besties, so I have not stopped bragging about my little chicky nuggy dip clip since I got it last Christmas. This is by far one of my favorite things I've ever received. I LOVE chicken nuggets, I wanna be a chicken nugget, but I did not like trying to dunk my nuggets while driving. This thing is so convenient for days that I don't have much time to eat and just have to grab something quick and keep going. Get yourself one if you're nugget obsessed like me, everyone who's seen it in my car has gotten one for themselves and not regretted it !

Promising review: " This is the greatest invention . I’m in my car a lot and anytime I order any fast food I always have to order dip, doesn’t matter what I’m eating. This thing came in handy not only for me but my son, too . Perfect for me because it comes with two holders and I like at least two dips at a time. I know I’m making this out to sound like it’s a billion dollar invention but I just love it. It’s a very handy thing to have in your car . I’m forever spilling my sauces all over the place because there is nowhere to put them, and then I saw this and knew I just had to try it. It’s a total game changer in my car . Thanks to whoever invented this. It’s GREAT!! " — Denise

6. A sand-free beach blanket because you LOVE the beach but can't stand the sand. This bb is designed so that sand rolls right off it and you don't end up packing a whole bunch up and bringing it home with you. Your day at the beach just got a whooole lot more enjoyable.

reviewer sitting on the beach blanket

It comes in a convenient little bag so you can travel with it easily and it has a little pouch for storage. It also comes with a bottle opener!

Promising review: "Absolutely excellent. I’ve taken this to the beach three times now and it’s awesome. Absolutely massive and sand doesn’t stick to it. Sure, if you step on it with sandy feet or push sand onto it it’ll sit on top but it just brushes off or shakes off without working for it at all . Ideal fabric for laying out at the beach. Great value, a must-have!" — Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $34.95  (available in two colors).

7. And a  sand-removal powder bag  — a talc-free and reef-friendly product that'll get all that sand off your body easy peasy. Don't let the sand stop you from enjoying your vacay; this bb is gonna take care of the part of the beach that you absolutely can't stand and you'll finally understand exactly how Loki must feel.

Shakalo is a small biz based in San Diego.

Promising review: "We recently moved to a beach area, and we are constantly there. This item has changed our entire lives! It lasts decently long (depending on how much you use it), it smells super good (not at all like baby powder), and it's super effective. It has saved me from vacuuming my car at least 1–2 times a week. And I even use it on my dogs' paws and bellies to make sure they're taken care of too. I will definitely be buying the refill and another bag to have exclusively in the car. " — Gabbs Uresti

Get it from Amazon for $24.99  (also available in a three-pack).

8. A window seat BevLedge  so you can double fist those drinks on your flight in Thor's honor without worrying about taking up all the space on your little tray or having to hold one. It'll securely hook onto the window and there's even space to put your phone and earbuds!

BevLedge is a small biz.

Promising review: "A friend recommended this to me as a vital travel companion, now that I've returned to frequent flying. I initially thought of it as a novelty, but now that I've used it, it's a necessity. It keeps the workspace clear for my laptop, but it also organizes all the little pieces that can become so annoying to keep up with — glasses, earphones, etc. It got my seat mate's immediate attention, as well as a few other folks nearby. I suspect they'll have one soon. Watch for one soon in a window near you!" — Timothy G. Wolfe

Get it from Amazon for $19.99 .

9. A handy RFID-blocking travel wallet complete with a — *get ready* — passport pocket, boarding pass compartment, three credit card slots, an ID slot, a slim card pouch, a slim pocket — *takes a breath* — a ticket slot, a cellphone pouch, a coin zippered pocket, a key holder, and a pen holder, all in one place. No more searching for your boarding pass or digging through your carry-on for your credit card when purchasing your morning coffee. Cue the Muses, this is def worthy of one of their songs.

reviewer image of the orange wallet

Promising review: "I absolutely love this wallet. I needed a new travel wallet, and this holds everything I need all in one place, and it still closes nicely and stays flat! I can fit my boarding pass, passport, ID, credit cards, money, checked baggage tickets, receipts, and more in it, yet it doesn’t bulk up or look like an overstuffed mess. It's just amazing. The description says it only holds US money, but I just used the boarding pass flap to hold all my Japanese yen (¥), which are larger. I didn’t use the zippered pocket for coins as I much prefer a separate coin purse for that sort of thing. I definitely recommend to anyone who travels a lot!" — Anthony Luu

Get it from Amazon for $11.99+  (available in 33 colors).

10. Vacuum-free space-saving compression bags  so that instead of packing seven outfits for your three-day trip, you can pack 10. Put your clothes in em, zip 'em up, roll the bag, and *voila* you don't have to choose which 'fit to leave behind because in the words of the Green Goblin, "Gods don't have to choose, we take" ...every freakin' outfit we own on vacay with us.

before image of clothes taking up space in a suitcase

Promising review: "These were the things I never knew I needed for traveling. They work just as advertised and are really useful when going on a trip. I always hate at the end of a trip having to mix dirty and clean clothes — a 'laundry bag' or plastic shopping bag never really felt like a good enough separation . These bags seal up and conceal the most stinky, wet clothes from your clean unused clothes. They are going to be one of my new necessities for my big family when traveling. " — Sarbello

11. An  expandable hard shell carry-on suitcase  with wheels, an internal compression divider, a TSA-approved lock, and a built-in CHARGER PORT!! 🥳🥳🥳  It has a designated pocket for your laptop (up to 15") and fits into most US flight overhead bins. Def will be an upgrade from your current carry-on — it's giving zero to hero vibes and this bb is obvi the hero.

reviewers blue suitcase

You'll need a portable charger which is *not* included — it just has the port for easy access — so be sure to grab one!

Promising review: "I was reluctant to consider a hard shell roller bag, convinced they hold much less than my soft side one. This Aerotrunk 23" bag fits in the overhead bin and is very spacious inside . It rolls like a dream and the interior is very well laid out . Both sides pack plenty and secure contents well and the mesh zippered bags are great for toiletries, lingerie, etc. An added bonus is the outside laptop compartment, which also stores all other electronics you might travel with. It's also classy looking! All in all, a great buy." — LCM

Get it from Amazon for  $159.95+  (available in four sizes, three colors, and in a three piece set).

12. Or  Solgaard's Carry-On Closet  that has a super impressive six-tier, pop-out shelving system. If you're the kind of person who needs 12 outfits for a four-day trip (I mean, options, hello!) this little bag will help you practically bring a whole closet on vacay with you while keeping everything neat and compact in its assorted compartments. And it's an airline-friendly size!

the open suitcase, which has several small storage compartments on one side and a larger one on the other

The smaller size is accepted as a carry-on by all international airlines, including European budget ones, while the larger one meets all US airline standards.

Promising review: "Great design that allows me to organize everything I need in much less space than I ever expected . Take your time to select and pack your things thoughtfully and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much you can get into this carry-on. I have several pieces of luggage in different sizes and I’m giving them away because this is all I need. The size and versatility make it the perfect carry-on." — Michelle C.

Get it from Solgaard for $295+ (available in two sizes and 14 colors).

13. And some  luggage wheel protectors  so you can waltz through the airport without hearing your suitcase squeak behind you. *You in your head ~smoothly~ rolling your luggage all around* — ha, you silly mortals with your noisy suitcases.

reviewer's close-up of suitcase wheels

Promising review: "These are fire! Definitely provides little grip, moves quietly, doesn’t mess with the luggage wheel rotation , and little less vibration, I guess, because rubber is absorbing. Love the bright red color that goes well with my carbon fiber luggage. Easy to install, and it’s funny they have directional line/arrow like car tires lol details count for me." — Tieng Nguyen

Get an eight-pack from Amazon for $9.99  (available in eight colors).

14. A  travel-friendly blanket  that doubles as a pillow because why the heck are planes soooo cold?! It'll reaaaally come in handy when it's too hot to bundle up but you know you're gonna freeze your butt off the entire five-hour flight. No need to sweat it out in a hoodie and sweatpants — this soft little blanket will keep you warm and cozy as you watch the mortals shiver.

the pink pillow and blanket set stored in a fluffy pink travel pouch

Oh! It also comes with a backpack clip so you can clip it to your backpack/luggage and avoid taking up precious carry-on space.

Promising review: "I ordered two of these and my daughter and I both use them numerous times while flying recently. They compact nicely, have a loop that can go through the handle of a carry-on, and are the perfect size for snuggling up and sleeping on the airplane. It is lightweight and I will not fly again without it!" — SweetMama

15. A portable espresso maker  because you need caffeine for your 7 a.m. flight but gods don't pay airport prices or stand in those suuuper long lines. This bad boy lets you use  Nespresso pods  so you can have your morning coffee wherever and whenever you please.

hand holding the espresso maker, showing it's about the size of a travel cup

Promising review: "The best thing for traveling ever!! I have to have espresso every morning and most small hotels and gas stations don't have espresso coffee so this is perfect! Easy to use. The cleaning takes 30 seconds; just rinse with water and let it dry." — Joanna Verdeja

Get it from Amazon for $54.90 .

16. A lightweight, compact  stroller  that can fit in the overhead bin on a plane (cuz it folds up so small) so you don't have to rent one when you're out. It can hold kids who weigh up to 55 pounds and it only weighs 9.5 pounds.

Promising review:  " This is a must-have for all parents with toddlers , especially if you are going on a trip.  We went to a place where they do not recommend a stroller because it’s too bulky and gets in your way. Well, using this was not a problem at all.  People were amazed how this thing works, and it’s really handy. Very easy to fold. Very light and not space consuming in your trunk! Love it so much!" — Amazon Customer

I tried many different models to connect the system to my Bluetooth headsets until I came across this one, and it is amazing! It seamlessly connects to my headset, very clear and reliable audio, and it takes the stress away from having to carry a number of headsets! Thank you!!!" — Ryan Malloy

Promising review: "These were awesome! My entire family suffers from motion sickness, especially carsickness. My little one gets sick in the car on a regular car ride through the city. So I knew that a long road trip was going to be a disaster. I was amazed at how well these bands worked for everyone! Not one single person complained about being sick for 12 hours in the car. At one point I did have one child remove their bands because they said they were getting too tight. But after only a few minutes without them, a headache started to come on, so they immediately put them back on and the relief was instant. I have suffered for decades and now I know better. I will never travel without mine again! " — 1SmartCookie

19. A small power bank charger  that's perfect for travel to charge your phone, tablet, AirPods, smartwatch, whatever ya got. Perfect if you can't ever find a freakin' outlet that isn't already taken at the airport.

phone plugged up to black charger bank

Promising review:  "This little gem is amazing! This year we were fortunate enough to do some local traveling and attend quite a few concerts . I take a ton of videos and pictures, often draining the battery. This power-packed product charged not only my phone when it was low, but my boyfriend’s AND the girl next to us!! Since you can only take small bags into venues, this slipped right into the pocket behind my phone! We had numerous comments on it bc of the little paw charge indicator. The flashing came in handy a few times when we found ourselves in the dark! I will be buying more and giving them as gifts this year!" — Annetastic

Get it from Amazon for  $17.99+  (available in four colors).

20. A set of handy DEET-free  mosquito-repelling bracelets  so those annoying little bloodsuckers have no chance to ruin any part of your day. They use essential oils like citronella to help keep those pesky bugs away from you. You'll feel so godly you could probz lift Thor's hammer — pshh, look around at all the foolish mortals getting bit.

reviewer in pink coiled bracelet

Check out a TikTok of the mosquito-repelling bracelets in action.

Promising reviews: "I moved last year from Southern California to North Carolina. Bugs of all types have always been attracted to me but the amount of bites I got last summer was WILD. Someone gave me one of these types of bracelets to use one day and it seemed to work SOOOOOO I decided to buy myself an arsenal to prepare for this summer. I read the reviews and about 99% of them had great results. I've only used this bracelet twice but both times I was outside and untouched.  I'm not fond of the smell, I'm hyper sensitive to smells, but I'd rather have the odor than being chewed alive." — Tracey Agopian

"You need these. As soon as mosquito season begins, I slip one of these over my wrist or ankle and I’m safe from being bitten. Highly recommend." — chris cullen

the white bag fitted onto a rolling suitcase handle

As if that weren't enough, it's also made of 100% recycled polyester!

Promising review: "How did I ever travel without this weekender? I brought this as my carry-on piece on a 17-day trip to London, and it is CLUTCH. I'm telling you, buy it yesterday!! I got the lightest color, and it's incredibly durable, so many pockets inside and out, super spacious inside, many straps to choose from to carry, and looks sleek. I was concerned about the price at first, but it's worth every single penny. I love how the pass-through on the outside that holds this bag onto the handle of your luggage can be zipped closed to use as another pocket. " — LAinFlight

25. An Airplane Pocket tray cover   because you're a germaphobe and everything disgusts you, especially germ-filled surfaces on a seven-hour flight. This has four stretchy pockets so you can store your flight essentials and it's water-resistant and machine washable because yes, we've gotten to the age where we wanna clean things that help keep other things clean.

Check this bb out on  TikTok ; it's made by a small biz!

Promising reviews:  "I used it last week and it was terrific.  It fit everything: magazine, iPad, tissues, gum, glasses, phone, earplugs and water bottle.  It stretched easily but tightly over the tray and both the flight attendant and my seat mates complimented me on it.  I plan to use it every time I fly. It would be perfect for children, too . Highly recommend it." — Sue G.

"I love this for several reasons. One, it keeps me from having to touch the airplane seat pocket/tray table. Two,  by putting my belongings inside I can’t leave anything behind.  Three, It's  lightweight and takes up very little space . And four,  I throw it in the washing machine after every trip . No regrets and people always ask about it when they see me pull it out." — JHoov88

Get it from Amazon for $29.99.

26. Plus a patterned travel tray for kids  with different modes for "snacking," "tablet viewing," "contained toy play," and "free play," so your kiddo isn't touching a germ-y surface *and* so they don't make a huge mess on the plane tray.

Lusso Gear is a small biz that specializes in travel products.

Promising review : "Absolutely love this for traveling with kids!!! We bought this for a recent trip with our daughter and it made snack time and playtime on the flight so much easier and mess-free . It’s sturdy, high-quality, and fits perfectly on the tray table and tablet. It’s also a nice extra layer of protection from germs when traveling. Our daughter loved the cute mermaid design too!" — Laura Knotts

Get it from Amazon for $26.95 (available in three prints).

27. A hands-free (rotating!) phone mount  that can be used on ALLLLLL airlines! Mount it to your table tray so you can *easily* watch your fave movie on the flight, or mount it to the arm of a chair or any flat surface!

A phone mounted to the back of an airplane tray table using a black clip device

Perilogics is a small biz creating hyper-functional tool holsters and bags for carrying your stuff on the go.

Promising review : "I bought this nifty gadget about six months ago for a multi-leg, ultra long-haul trip and it more than held up the entire duration . I was able to finagle it to fit the tray tables on different planes and like others, I find the height just nice when clamped onto a stowed tray table . It also works on my roller carry-on handle during layovers." — Earendil

Get it from Amazon for $13.97+  (available in five colors and in two-packs).

28. A  Trtl neck pillow  since on every flight you wake up and realize your neck is killing you from sleeping in such an awkward position orrrr that you've fallen asleep on your neighbor's shoulder. Simply adjust it for comfort and support and this lovely little pillow will make sure you wake up without a sore neck. It's also machine washable and fast-drying, unlike the U-shaped travel pillows.

reviewer wearing black Trtl neck pillow on flight

Promising review:  "Used it for a 14-hour flight to Japan last week, and it helped tremendously. This was the first time I was able to sleep on the plane so this helped tremendously. Definitely a must-have for travel. It is very light so I was able to easily pack it in my under-the-seat wheeled trolley. I want to emphasize how much the light warmth of the fleece (and I don't like being hot) was just right to help me nod off to sleep. Since this is primarily for sitting upright in the seat or someone in the middle or the aisle seat, this was ideal for me. I just got back yesterday. Again I used it — this time for a 12-hour flight." — Ambience

Get it from Amazon for  $64.99+  (available in five colors).

29. A  waterproof pouch  so you can bring your phone with you snorkeling on your vacation and capture all that magnificence that is ~under the sea~. Oh, and even in this little dry bag you can still use your phone, soooo...underwater selfies! You may even get to snap a pic of the god of the sea — Poseidon, of course.

reviewer's phone in waterproof pouch

It fits any phone up to 100 mm x 170 mm (or about 3.9 inches x 6.7 inches). It's also great at keeping out sand and dirt.

Promising review: "I purchased this case in July for an upcoming canoe trip with a friend, and as luck would have it, we flipped our canoe. Being the rebel that I am, I chose not to wear my phone around my neck, and so it, my ID, and my debit card ended up at the bottom of the river. I assumed it would be discovered a thousand years from now and placed in a museum as an ancient artifact. Fast forward to this week. I was contacted via FB by an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office diver and guess what he found? Yup, my phone case with all of the contents intact and dry as a bone! He had to cut the case open, but there was not one single drop of water in it and he ended up purchasing a case for himself because he was just that impressed !" — Julie McDonald

30. A TikTok-popular  spacious travel-friendly backpack that'll hold SOOOO much stuff. It'll fit right under the seat in front of you so you can use it as the "personal item" you're allowed to bring along andddd it has a USB port, making it a superior travel bag fit for a god. If you like piña coladas, getting caught in the rain, lots of pockets/compartments, and a separate waterproof wet bag, this is the perfect bag for you.

It also has a pocket for your shoes and a strap that slides down over your luggage handle for easy transport. Reviewers say it meets  Spirit ,  JetBlue , American Airlines ,  Alaska Airlines ,  Southwest ,  Delta , Frontier , and  United Airlines  personal item rules and fits under airplane seats!

Check it out on TikTok .

Promising review: "One bag handled a week of travel! This bag is like magic! I fit four pairs of shorts, four shirts, underwear, socks and couple of workout outfits with sports bras, two pairs of sandals, four bathing suits, a coverup, sun hat, toiletries, cosmetics, a laptop, notebook, three device chargers (computer, phone and Fitbit) and an electric toothbrush. Even when packed to the max, the weight is comfortably distributed so it doesn’t break your back. It fits under the seat perfectly, too. I bought it when it a was 50% off but I’d pay full price knowing how awesome this bag is for travel." — AlexanderK

31. A JetKids ride-on carry-on suitcase  because you know your little independent one won't let you carry them and they have Hercules-like strength when they're mid-meltdown. 32. A 16GB waterproof Kindle Paperwhite  with an anti-glare display so it'll feel less like you're reading from a screen and more like you're diving into a novel with actual paper pages. Perfect for some poolside reading and if someone is splashing your way, you won't have to worry about it ruining your new fave little gadget.

reviewers kindle with book titled

Promising review: "I love the Kindle e-readers. Previously, I had the 7th generation that I bought back in 2013. You just can't beat the backlight with the Kindle e-readers; they are the best on the market in my opinion. I bought this mainly for the waterproof feature. It also has more storage space and some of the features (Goodreads, for example) have been updated. Another huge plus is having audiobooks on this kindle (though you do need a Bluetooth headphone set). I listen to a TON of audiobooks, so this is super useful for me. The battery lasts much longer than my old Paperwhite and it is notably lighter than my old one . For me, this was well worth the money because of the type of reader I am. The only minor gripe I would have is that sometimes I accidentally touch the screen and it goes on to the next page before I am done reading (an issue I had with the previous Kindle Paperwhite too), but it's a minor more logistical issue." — Phoebe

33. An adjustable  universal travel harness seat  so you don't go all ~Loki on a rampage in New York~ when the hostess at dinner says that all the high chairs are already being used. If your babe is 6 months or older, you can turn literally any restaurant chair on your vacay into a baby-safe, secure chair.

Promising review: "This thing was amazing! I give it  10 stars — it fit every type of chair we encountered on our Kenyan vacation! Kept our toddler controlled and made feeding on the go so easy. Very lightweight and packable, a vacation must-have!" — Kireme1

34. A splurge-worthy set of seven aesthetically pleasing  Cadence containers  that'll hold your pills, moisturizers, shampoo, conditioner, and so much more. So, yes, you can bring all seven of your serums for your skincare routine — just throw 'em in these cute itty bitty jars and TSA won't give you any problems. The magnetic design makes them easy to cluster together so you can find all your bathroom necessities in one place.

reviewer's green travel-sized toiletry containers on a counter

Cadence is an AAPI woman-owned small business founded by Steph Hon with the goal of eliminating single-use travel-sized plastics. The containers are made from recycled ocean-bound plastic.

The containers come with labeled interchangeable tiles — for shampoo, conditioner, body wash, moisturizer, cleanser, pill icon, and one that's blank. Say goodbye to having to always buy travel-size bottles of your bathroom necessities.

Promising review: "The BEST CONTAINERS for traveling! I have tried so many $5 travel containers and they always end up exploding or breaking. Super happy to finally find these travel containers that stand up and last throughout all of my travels and I know I’ll have them for years to come. They are sturdy and hold a lot product . I love that they are magnetic too so they stick together which makes it super easy for travel . Would purchase again!" — Taylor

35. A portable blackout curtain  so your kiddo can get a good snooze in despite being in a different location. It's got suction cups and Velcro edges for customization, so you just attach it to the window and *boom*! Totally dark room so your babe can sleep off the fuss they'll put up from being so exhausted. God status = totally achieved.

It also comes with a matching travel bag!

Promising review: "Travel essential. We bought one of these a few years ago for traveling with our then baby and now we can’t live without it. We just ordered a second one so we never have to be without. Because they suction to any window, it’s so much better than any other blackout curtain. It gets the room pitch black,  it folds up into a bag, and it's lightweight. Super easy to throw in a suitcase when traveling . You need this." — Brett and Marie Johnson

The trains and stations of the Moscow Metro

2 Comments · Posted by Alex Smirnov in Cities , Travel , Video

The Moscow Metro is the third most intensive subway system in the world after Tokyo and Seoul subways. The first line was opened on May 15, 1935. Since 1955, the metro has the name of V.I. Lenin.

The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 305.7 km. Forty four stations are recognized cultural heritage. The largest passenger traffic is in rush hours from 8:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00.

Cellular communication is available on most of the stations of the Moscow Metro. In March 2012, a free Wi-Fi appeared in the Circle Line train. The Moscow Metro is open to passengers from 5:20 to 01:00. The average interval between trains is 2.5 minutes.

The fare is paid by using contactless tickets and contactless smart cards, the passes to the stations are controlled by automatic turnstiles. Ticket offices and ticket vending machines can be found in station vestibules.

Our Mom Is 75. We’re Moving Heaven and Earth for This Eclipse.

A drawing of women in solar-eclipse sunglasses, staring at the sky.

By Kathleen Lenihan and Maureen Lenihan Rust

Ms. Lenihan is a former high school history teacher and an elected member of the School Committee in Lexington, Mass. Ms. Rust is a senior manager for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

If all goes according to plan, on Monday, our 75-year-old mother, Nancy, will be settled into a lawn chair in Waco, Texas — some 1,300 miles from her recliner in Las Vegas — and joining a great many other Americans as they put on solar eclipse glasses, tilt their heads up and try to make sense of what’s happening in the heavens.

None of this was a given. Fiercely independent and more than a little skeptical of hype, fads and feverish mass events, our mother is not what you’d call a joiner. Like many of her generation, she has seen a lot in life; she knows what it’s like to have high expectations and be let down. But she also knows the coming eclipse is neither trend nor fad. Planning to see it has united our family in a desire to participate in a mass event that is a wonder of the world.

Part of the drive to take our mother to Waco is the hard truth of time. Partial eclipses come and go, but the next awe-inspiring and captivating total eclipse will not be seen again in the contiguous United States until 2044. Our mother is in variable health and disabled. Absent good luck and medical advancements, odds are heavily stacked against her living to see another one.

Retirement for our mom came with familiar features — more time for her hobbies, rooting for her favorite teams and vacations that cater to disabled individuals. But this planned excursion is different. A cruise can bill itself as a “once-in-a-lifetime adventure” and then offer many dates on the calendar for the same adventure. No matter how many exhilarating experiences a person has collected in 75 years, this one will stand apart.

Her body may be broken, but our mother is still the experience-seeker she has always been. She left home at 18 for a college a thousand miles away, traveled alone to the Middle East and never met a boat, big or small, she didn’t love.

These days, our mom can barely walk. She moves around via a scooter. Her back is so damaged from osteoporosis and an unsuccessful surgery that she cannot sleep, stand or sit without pain. Still, she remains the same stubborn and determined person she has always been. Years ago, this meant going to law school at the age of 40, traveling the world as a divorced single woman and starting her own business just shy of her 50th birthday. Now it means bristling when we mentioned that we are coming from our homes in Massachusetts and California to “take” her to see the eclipse.

“I decided I was going, so I am going,” she told us. “Compliant” and “rule-following” are words not generally used to describe our mom. It wasn’t true when she was a girl at Catholic school, and it certainly isn’t true now with her adult children.

As for us, we don’t always feel like dutiful children. Sure, we send flowers for Mother’s Day and her birthday. We try to speak at least weekly with our mother, but we also frequently end up in yelling matches over politics. In those moments, we tell her she has lost her mind, and she wonders aloud where she went wrong in raising us. Although we visit every Thanksgiving and Christmas, we have never vacationed together as adults. The daily demands of work and our own children long ago got in the way, and those yelling matches are wearying. It’s easy to end a phone call. It’s much harder to stop an uncomfortable conversation at the dinner table.

Despite all that, we have spent more than a year making the arrangements to escort her to this phenomenon of nature. Flights, rental cars and a wheelchair-friendly rental house have been booked since last spring. Most important, we identified an eclipse event at Baylor University in Waco that could handle my mom’s needs while giving us the best chance to view the eclipse under clear skies. We asked the organizers so many questions about walkways, bathrooms, seating and parking that a representative replied via email, “I can see you are putting a lot of thought into making this happen for your mom.” It is a lot of planning, but then my mom (and dad) did the same for four children. Our childhood was filled with trips to see the birthplaces of presidents, Thomas Edison’s workshop, Civil War battlefields, the U.S. Mint and more. Now, like many people in their 40s and 50s, we’ve reversed our roles.

Our mother stayed home when two of her children viewed the solar eclipse in 2017 in Jackson Hole, Wyo. They came back with tales of an event so transformational, she knew she wanted to witness the next one for herself.

People who have never seen a total eclipse are often befuddled by all the hoopla. They most likely recall a partial solar eclipse from childhood — a vague memory of seeing a strange, shadowy impression of the sun through cheap paper sunglasses. But a total solar eclipse is a singularly spectacular phenomenon. The sky darkens, the temperatures drop, and birds fall silent. Viewers can stare directly in the direction of the sun without any eye protection for the minutes of “totality,” when the moon completely covers the sun. Indeed, the only time a human being can see the entire daytime sky is during a total solar eclipse. As Dr. David Grinspoon, now senior scientist for Astrobiology Strategy at NASA, explained to a reporter in 2017, “It’s like the veil comes off the heavens for a minute.” A total eclipse is so outside the realm of normal human experience that in the minutes of totality in 2017, we shouted out in delight and spontaneously hugged each other. Many of us that day had not fully understood that the universe could put on such a wondrous display.

Knowing all that, our mother is saving her strength. She booked a business class flight to Texas to ease her pain, and she is sitting out most of Waco’s pre-eclipse weekend festivities. She will skip the planned science talks. Instead, she will rest for most of the morning and plan to arrive on Baylor’s campus just in time to see the start of the eclipse.

We inherited the desire to explore our world from our mother. The need to care for her now is just as deeply woven into our psyche. Over the past year of planning, the eclipse became less about science for us and more about ensuring that our mother finally has this experience of a lifetime.

Kathleen Lenihan, the eldest of Nancy’s four children, is an elected member of the Lexington, Mass., School Committee. Maureen Lenihan Rust, the second of Nancy’s four children, is a senior manager for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Lithuania & Latvia: Vilnius to Riga with Country Walkers

If last summer is any indication—and bookings for 2024 suggest that it is—parts of Europe will be as inundated with crowds as they were in 2023. The best way to avoid the hordes is to go somewhere off the beaten path, seeking out corners of Europe free of mass tourism. Here are five European trips for those seeking a respite from the madding crowd.

Lithuania & Latvia: Vilnius to Riga

Country Walkers pairs two of the Baltics’ most desirable destinations on this eight-day trip, blending rural traditions and history. Rated Easy/Moderate includes visiting castles and historic palaces and exploring some of the scenic trails into the national parks of Trakai, Curonian Spit, Žemaitija, Gauja, and Kemeri. A visit to an amber museum and a tour of one of Europe’s largest markets, guided by a Latvian chef. There is availability in June, July and August and the cost is $4,545 (prices listed are per person, based on double occupancy, land-only).

Albania with Hinoki Travels.

Hinoki Travels chose Albania for its farm-to-table splendor, lesser-explored mountain trails, and warm-natured hospitality. It has put together a small group trip to Southern Albania with a theme of Provenance. Celebrating the region’s varied cultures, food & agriculture, and vast landscapes, this nine-day trip focuses on being hosted by local farmers, food producers, shepherds, local guides & small business owners. Accommodation is in guest houses in villages, and a highlight is sampling local food & wine. The adventures include hikes of five to six hours a day on rough, uneven terrain with varying elevations. There is also a rafting trip on the wild Vjosa River. The trip supports the efforts of EcoAlbania and Albanian citizens dedicated to protecting this river, one of Europe’s last wild-flowing rivers. There is one departure, September 14-22, 2024, and the cost is $3,250.

Exploring Zagoria with Wilderness Travel.

Gmail And YouTube Hackers Bypass Google s 2FA Account Security

It s going to zero legendary billionaire predicts rapid cataclysmic u s dollar collapse and a 5 trillion post halving bitcoin price boom, apple confirms innovative iphone 16 pro upgrade.

Hidden Villages of Northern Greece

The crowds may flock to the Greek Islands, but you’ll encounter far fewer tourists if you head north. Traditional Greece can still be seen in Zagoria, where stone villages sit above the Vikos Gorge. On this 12-day Wilderness Travel trip, there are hikes along shepherds' paths and across arched stone bridges that span the gorge. The itinerary includes the monasteries of Meteora, which date as far back as the 13th century. The trip concludes with a hike up Mt. Olympus, the home of the gods for the ancient Greeks. Rated Level 4+, Moderate to Strenuous, this trip features daily hikes, with accommodation in hotels and simple pensions. Hikes are mainly on old mule trails and vary from 3-5 hours daily at 3,000 to 9,403 feet. There is an October 2024 departure, and the price is $4,595.

Hiker in Tatra Mountains, Poland.

Poland & Slovakia Walking & Hiking Tour

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.
