Tips & Tricks
Troubleshooting, how to sync safari bookmarks with google chrome.
Many people who own iPhones and iPads also use Windows computers, and if you’re one of them, chances are you use both Safari on iOS/iPadOS and Chrome on Windows. Fortunately, you can easily sync your bookmarks between both these browsers, thanks to a browser extension.
With the help of the iCloud Bookmarks Chrome extension that’s developed by Apple, you can seamlessly switch between Safari and Google Chrome across your devices without having to worry about losing your bookmarks. All your bookmarks are synced using iCloud, and they’re readily available whether you’re on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Windows PC.
Interested in setting this feature up on your computer? We’re here to help you get started, and you’ll be syncing Safari Bookmarks with Google Chrome on Windows in no time.
How to Sync Safari Bookmarks with Google Chrome on PC
Keeping your Safari bookmarks in sync with Google Chrome requires you to have iCloud for Windows installed on your PC in addition to the extension. Once you’re done with the installation, just follow the steps below:
That’s pretty much all you need to do.
From now on, when you switch to Safari on your iPhone after using Chrome on your Windows computer, you’ll find that Safari has already updated all its bookmarks to match what’s on Chrome.
Active bookmarks syncing is currently only available for Chrome, but since Microsoft’s Edge browser is now Chromium-based, you will be able to install this Chrome extension on your Edge browser by allowing extensions from other sources . Thanks to this workaround, you can keep your Edge bookmarks in sync with Safari too.
This is just one of the browser extensions that Apple offers to Chrome users. Apart from iCloud Bookmarks, there’s also an iCloud Passwords extension that allows you to use saved passwords that are stored in iCloud Keychain on your Windows PC. To use this, you need to have version 12 of iCloud for Windows or later installed on your computer.
If you use Chrome on your Mac, it’s worth noting that iCloud does not sync bookmarks between Chrome for macOS and Safari. These steps for actively syncing bookmarks only work on a Windows computer. Therefore, if you use Chrome on Mac, but Safari on your iOS device, you’re out of luck (for now anyway, or if you know a solution to this then let us know in the comments).
Now you know you can sync all your Safari bookmarks with Chrome. What do you think of this feature for Windows users? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

I wonder how this works with multiple Chrome and Safari user profiles. Can it map Safari personal profile and Chrome persona profile, and also the “work” profiles in each browser?
I might back up my bookmarks and give it a shot afterwards. I’m assuming the worst but hoping for the best.
iCloud Bookmark Sync is NOT the way to go to sync bookmarks between Safari and Chrome (on Windows) IF you use Chrome with multiple profiles(=different email accounts) because Safari does not have the concept of different profiles therefore it combines all bookmarks of all Chrome profiles. After that this joined list of bookmarks are synced down to each Windows PC/laptop so that all Chrome instances running on them (using different profiles) get this full list of bookmarks created by iCloud. As if this was not terrible enough, during the next cycles of sync, all of this Chrome instances (using different profiles) running on these different devices sync their bookmarks with iCloud which then creates duplicates. The longer the sync stays active, the more duplicates are created. In Short, iCloud Windows App can only be used, when Chrome (on Windows) is used with a single profile.
You are right. I encounter this issue when i use iCloud Bookmark Sync.
It there better solution to sync bookmark between Safari and Chrome? I mainly use Chrome on Windows system, and Safari on MacBook and iPhone.
I have tons of bookmarks in Safari and Chrome . How does the resolve conflicts between the 2 browsers? Will Safari’s bookmarks look like Chrome’s ? Or vice versa?
This is a typical big f*ck by Apple. Max users cannot use this. When I have my MBP plugged in I use Brave, better security and performance. Also it works much better with the Google Worksuite im environment because of the extensions. But when I’m on the go I use Safari because of its power efficiency.

How to transfer bookmarks from safari to chrome on ios.
Chrome for iOS may never outperform Safari, but it has still become a solid browser alternative with some nice extra features all its own.
Quick Links
Step one: sync safari with icloud, step two (windows only): import bookmarks into internet explorer on your computer, step three: import bookmarks into the desktop version of chrome, step four: sync chrome between your desktop computer and ios.
Chrome for iOS may never outperform Safari , but it has still become a solid browser alternative with some nice extra features all its own. The trouble is, when you install Chrome for iOS, there's no way to directly import bookmarks from Safari into Chrome. For that, you'll have take a few steps and even get your desktop computer involved.
Related: 10 Tips for Browsing With Chrome on Android, iPhone, and iPad
The first step in getting your bookmarks into Chrome is transferring them over to your desktop computer. For that, you'll use iCloud. Fire up your Settings app and tap "iCloud."
In the iCloud settings, make sure the "Safari" setting is enabled.
And that's all you have to do here. If you've just enabled it for the first time, Safari should sync with your iCloud account within a few minutes. If you want to force the sync to happen right away, you can just create a new bookmark in the Safari app.
After you've synced Safari on your iOS device with iCloud, the next step is getting those bookmarks into Chrome on your desktop computer.
If you're using OS X, it's very simple. But in Windows, you have to take an extra step or two just because there's no Safari version for Windows anymore. So if you're using OS X, skip to the next step.
Windows users should go ahead and install iCloud for Windows and Chrome for Windows if you haven't already. Once it's installed and you've signed in, fire it up by hitting Start, typing "iCloud," and pressing Enter.
In the main iCloud window, click the "Bookmarks" checkbox.
In the Bookmarks Options window, your default web browser will already be selected. You can also select additional browsers if you want to sync your Safari bookmarks with them, as well.
Related: How to Sync Any Browser's Bookmarks With Your iPad or iPhone
If you're planning on keeping your bookmarks synced between your desktop and iOS, go ahead and select whatever browser you use on the desktop. Just be aware that you'll be merging bookmarks between browsers, which can come with some complications . If instead you just want to make a one time transfer of your bookmarks, select a browser you don't use regularly to sync with Safari for iOS. Since this post is about getting those bookmarks into Chrome, we're actually going to sync them with Internet Explorer.
The reason for this is that we are then going to do a one time transfer of the bookmarks from Internet Explorer into Chrome, and then take them from there to Chrome for iOS. Taking the extra step of putting them into Internet Explorer first prevents our existing Chrome bookmarks from merging back into Safari and potentially making a mess. Whatever you choose, go ahead and click Apply back in the main iCloud window to force a new sync to happen.
When asked if you want to merge bookmarks, go ahead and click the "Merge" button.
Now, both Windows and Mac users should import bookmarks into Chrome, from Internet Explorer (Windows) or Safari (Mac). Install Chrome if you haven't already, then click the Tools menu and choose Bookmarks > Import Bookmarks and Settings.
In the settings page that appears, choose "Microsoft Internet Explorer" (or Safari, if you're a Mac user) from the drop-down menu, select the items you want to import, and then click the "Import" button.
We're almost there! Next, you'll sync Chrome between your desktop computer and iOS.
For this step, we're going to assume you already have Chrome installed on your iOS device . If not, go ahead and do that now. Syncing your bookmarks between Chrome on your desktop and Chrome on your iOS device is as simple as signing into both using your Google account.
On your desktop computer, click the Tools button on the Chrome toolbar and then choose Settings from the menu. On the Settings page, click the "Sign in to Chrome" button and then enter your Google credentials to sign in.
After signing into your Google account, Chrome will automatically start syncing your bookmarks and other settings to Google's servers. By default, Chrome syncs everything, including bookmarks, passwords, extensions, settings, and more. You can control exactly what gets synced by clicking the "Advanced sync settings" button on the main settings page and then choosing what you want to sync.
Next, you'll do the same in Chrome for iOS. Fire up the Chrome app, tap the Tools button, and then choose "Settings."
On the Settings page, tap "Sign in to Chrome."
Go ahead and enter your sign in credentials. To sync everything, just tap the "Ok, Got It" button to start the syncing process. If you want to select what gets synced, tap the "Settings" link instead.
If you selected "Settings" to control what gets synced, you'll be shown an additional settings screen. Tap the "Sync" button.
On the Sync page, choose what settings you want to be synced and then tap "Done" to start the sync process.
And there you have it. Yes, it's a little convoluted but it gets the job done. Hopefully sometime in the future, Apple will decide to let other browsers import directly from Safari. In the meantime, though, at least you know you can get those bookmarks transferred over with a little time and patience.

The Easiest Way To Transfer Safari Bookmarks To Google Chrome
If you're well integrated into Apple's ecosystem, sticking to Safari makes the most sense. The default browser is designed and optimized for macOS and iOS, allowing you to effortlessly pass tabs between devices or make purchases secured with FaceID or TouchID. There is a downside, though: Safari is an Apple exclusive. Because of that, you can't sync Safari with your Android or Windows devices, making Google Chrome a more appealing — and universal — alternative.
Right now, Chrome can beat Safari speeds on macOS. Google tested the latest build of Chrome using Apple's Speedometer browser benchmark, where it outperformed Safari, giving reasons a pretty good reason to switch. Chrome's browser extension support is also unparalleled, offering thousands of free web extensions via the Chrome Web Store. Beyond that, you can seamlessly sync Chrome history, passwords, settings, and bookmarks across all your devices by signing into the browser with your Google account.
Whether you want to take Google Chrome for a test drive or make the switch from Safari, you don't need to lose your bookmarks or settings. Here's the easiest way to transfer all your Safari bookmarks to Google Chrome.
How to transfer Safari bookmarks to Google Chrome on Mac
Moving bookmarks between desktop browsers is fairly straightforward. You can either let Chrome automatically import the bookmarks or do it manually yourself, as explained on the Google Support website.
To auto-import browser bookmarks from Safari:
1. Fire up Chrome on your computer.
2. Click the three-dot menu button located in the upper right corner of the browser.
3. Navigate to Bookmarks > Import Bookmarks and Settings.
4. Pick Safari from the drop-down menu.
5. Browsing history, Bookmarks, and Search are checked by default. Uncheck the other items if you only want to import the bookmarks.
6. Click Import and then Done.
As mentioned, you can also transfer the bookmarks manually, but you'll need the related HTML file. This is also a simple process, but it takes a few extra steps.
1. Open Safari on your computer.
2. Go to File > Export Bookmarks.
3. Save the HTML file in your local Mac storage.
4. Open Chrome and go to Bookmarks > Import Bookmarks and Settings
5. This time, pick Bookmarks HTML File from the drop-down menu.
6. Locate the .html file and click Choose File.
On a fresh installation of Chrome, the imported bookmarks will appear on the bookmarks bar (you can show or hide the bar with Ctrl + Shift + B.) But if you've already created new bookmarks on Chrome, you'll find the imported Safari bookmarks in a folder called "Other bookmarks."
How to transfer Safari bookmarks to Google Chrome on iPhone and iPad
While importing and exporting bookmarks is a breeze on desktop, there's no direct way to do so on iOS or iPadOS. However, you can use Chrome sync and iCloud sync to transfer bookmarks from Safari on Mac to Chrome on iPhone or iPad. Note that you need a Google account for Chrome sync to work, and this process relies on having access to a macOS computer.
Start by syncing your Safari bookmarks on iOS or iPadOS via iCloud. On your iPad or iPhone, navigate to Settings > Profile > iCloud and turn on the switch for Safari.
Next, enable Safari sync on Mac. Find the iCloud in the System Preferences and check the toggle for Safari.
Open Google Chrome on your Mac and import Safari bookmarks using the steps laid out in the previous section.
Sign into Chrome with your Google account. The imported bookmarks (also the history, passwords, and preferences) will be synced across all your devices.
Install Chrome on your iPhone or iPad and sign in with the same Google account.
Android devices also support Chrome sync. After you sync the bookmarks using iCloud, Google will import them to your Android device, too (provided you sign in with the same account).

Currently I use Chrome on my Mac and android. I'd like to use Safari instead on my mac but I'd want to sync bookmarks automatically between them. Is there any way of doing this or do I just have to import my bookmarks manually and then manually update them from time to time?
- Sep 9, 2023
Synced bookmarks between two different browsers? On two different OS'es? I'm guessing no. I'm using Mozilla Firefox (have been for years, like it very much, comparing with other browsers now and then) and it syncs my bookmarks across my apple devices. Recommended. And I would think that it would sync between Android and Apple devices, though I haven't tried it.

jagooch said: How well did it work? I use multiple Google Chrome user profiles to separate work and personal browsing, so wonder if the icloud bookmarks extension lets you select which profile Safari syncs with . Add to that the fact that Safari now supports multiple user profiles, and it gets a whole lot of complicated. For example , perhaps I want Safari personal profile to sync with Chrome's personal profile, and also do the same thing for the work profiles. Apple could just solve this with Safari for Windows, but I guess they want to leave that browser dead. Click to expand...

Get your Safari bookmarks from your Mac to your iPhone
By Rob LeFebvre • 1:45 pm, June 3, 2015
I took the plunge and downloaded a password manager today, and when I was researching how to use it on my iPhone, one help page said I needed to put some bookmarklets onto my Mac and then move them over to the iPhone.
Problem was, I wasn’t sure how to make that happen; I figured it was just automatic.
It might be magically enabled for you, but if you’re like me and don’t know how to get your Safari bookmarks from one device to the other, here’s how to get it to work.
You’ll need to launch your System Preferences app on your Mac, and then click on iCloud. Once there, click on Safari to enable your web browser sync.
Next, hop on over to your iPhone (or iPad; it’ll work the same way), and tap on Settings.
Tap on iCloud, and then swipe down to the Safari area. Tap on the toggle switch to turn on Safari sync ON. Tap on the Merge button that slides up from the bottom of the screen, and then you’ll be all set.
Give it a few minutes, and all your bookmarks will sync across your Mac and iOS versions of Safari. Hoorah!

Troubleshooting Sync Issues
While Safari's sync feature is designed to seamlessly update your bookmarks across all your Apple devices, you may encounter occasional issues that disrupt this synchronization process. Understanding how to troubleshoot these sync issues can help ensure that your Safari favorites remain consistent and readily accessible. Here are some common troubleshooting steps to address sync issues:
Check iCloud Status
Before delving into device-specific troubleshooting, it's essential to verify the status of iCloud services. Visit Apple's System Status page to check if there are any ongoing issues with iCloud services. If there are reported problems, it's likely that they are affecting the sync process. In such cases, it's best to wait for Apple to resolve the underlying issues before attempting further troubleshooting.
Verify Internet Connectivity
Syncing Safari favorites across devices relies on a stable internet connection. If you're experiencing sync issues, ensure that your devices are connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network or have cellular data enabled. Poor connectivity can hinder the sync process, leading to discrepancies in your bookmarks across devices.
Update Device Software
Outdated software on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac can sometimes lead to sync issues. Ensure that all your devices are running the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or macOS. Updating to the latest software version can resolve underlying compatibility issues and improve the syncing functionality of Safari bookmarks.
Restart Devices
A simple yet effective troubleshooting step is to restart the devices experiencing sync issues. This can help clear temporary glitches and reestablish the connection to iCloud, potentially resolving any underlying sync discrepancies.
Reset Safari Sync
If you notice persistent sync issues on a specific device, you can attempt to reset the Safari sync settings. On iPhone and iPad, navigate to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Drive, then toggle off Safari. After a few moments, toggle it back on to initiate a fresh sync. On Mac, go to System Preferences > Apple ID > iCloud, then uncheck and recheck the Safari option. This can help reinitialize the sync process and address any underlying issues.
Contact Apple Support
If you've exhausted troubleshooting steps and continue to experience sync issues with Safari favorites, reaching out to Apple Support can provide further assistance. Apple's support team can offer personalized guidance and troubleshooting tailored to your specific device and iCloud account.
By following these troubleshooting steps, you can address common sync issues and ensure that your Safari favorites remain consistently updated across all your Apple devices. This proactive approach to troubleshooting can help maintain a seamless browsing experience, allowing you to access your preferred websites without interruptions.
In conclusion, the seamless synchronization of Safari favorites across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac offers a significant convenience in managing your browsing experience. By leveraging iCloud as the conduit for syncing, Apple has streamlined the process of ensuring that your preferred websites are readily accessible across all your devices. This cohesive integration aligns with Apple's commitment to delivering a seamless ecosystem that adapts to users' needs and usage patterns.

How to migrate your iPhone Safari tabs to Chrome
Whichever method, you’ll need iCloud Tabs enabled, an iOS device (iPhone/iPad) and a Mac.
If you only want to open a small number of iPhone tabs on your Mac’s Safari, just click your Mac Safari’s cloud icon and pick the tab to open. A similar alternative is the free CloudyTabs app.
Many, many tabs
Did you find out the hard way that you can only have 500 tabs open on iOS’ Safari?
Here’s a reliable way to get your open iOS tabs to your Mac’s Chrome bookmarks:
- Have no bookmarks in Safari to start (recommended, not required — just makes it easier to see what was changed)
- Add all iPhone open tabs as a folder of bookmarks (long-press the Bookmarks icon on iPhone Safari to see this option)
- Your iOS bookmarks will sync to your Mac Safari bookmarks
- Once that happens, go to Mac Safari > File > Export Bookmarks
- Go to Chrome > Import Bookmarks and Settings (the auto-importer from Safari may not work for iCloud bookmarks)
- Go to Chrome > Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager > verify the Safari export got imported successfully
- Go to Mac Safari > Bookmarks > Edit Bookmarks > delete the folder
- Long-press the Tabs icon on iPhone and close ALL tabs (scary but feels good!)
- Use whichever variety of Chrome tools/extensions to do what you will (open all links within a specific bookmark folder, export to text, etc.)

Syncing PC Chrome to iPhone Safari
I've read numerous Apple support articles and 3rd-party Web pages purporting to explain how to synchronize an iPhone's Safari bookmarks with the bookmarks in your PC-based Chrome browser. Essentially they all give the same instructions:
- Enable Bookmarks in the PC's iCloud app
- Click the Bookmarks feature's Options... button
- Enable the PC Web browser(s) whose bookmarks should sync with the iPhone's Safari Web browser
- Click Apply and Close
Unfortunately those instructions fail on my PC. I've had IE selected for syncing for several years, but my IE bookmarks have never appeared in the iPhone's Safari browser. Also, the iPhone's Safari browser has never saved a bookmark of its own via the mobile UI, even though I've attempted to do so dozens of time using varying methods.
On my PC, I recently switched to Chrome as my main Web browser, and taken the time to consolidate & rationalize bookmarks from the PC-based IE, Edge, and Firefox browsers into a single set of bookmarks in the PC's Chrome browser. Today I decided to see if I could succeed in syncing this unified set of bookmarks within the PC-based Chrome browser with the iPhone's Safari browser. It was even less successful than attempting the PC IE <-> iPhone Safari sync...which I think is really saying something considering an IE <-> Safari sync has never worked.
My steps and results
- Ensure the PC's instances of Chrome and the iCloud app are the latest gold releases.
- Google how to set up the sync process. Choose current instructions found on an Apple help site.
- Open the PC-based iCloud app.
- De-select, then re-select, the Bookmarks feature. Click the Bookmarks Options button, de-select Internet Explorer, then select Chrome. Click the Bookmarks Options dialog's [OK] button, then the iCloud app's [Apply] button.
- The PC-based iCloud app displays the following dialog:
iCloud Bookmarks extension for Chrome required
iCloud Bookmarks extension for Chrome is required.
Enable the extension to keep your Chrome bookmarks up to date with the Safari bookmarks on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
[Enable...] [Cancel]
The odd thing here is that this extension is already installed and enabled in Chrome. When I click on the dialog's Enable button, iCloud just opens a new instance of Chrome, with a blank tab & page displayed. This bug prohibits me from moving forward.
Anyone been through this and know the solution? I'd be in your debt.

How to Sync iPhone Bookmarks With PC
On iPhone, Safari provides a top-notch browsing experience due to its tight integration into iOS. If you use only Apple products, then you’ll get your browsing activity synced seamlessly across devices. That includes bookmarks as well. But what if you use a Windows PC instead? Safari no longer supports that platform. That poses a problem.
Thankfully, you don’t have to switch browsers on your iPhone to match the one on your PC. You can still use Safari and still get your bookmarks synced across to either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox (sorry, Microsoft Edge fans), and vice versa. Apple officially supports that functionality, so you don’t have to use any third-party apps or services.
In Comes iCloud for Windows
To start syncing bookmarks on your iPhone with your PC, you must have iCloud for Windows app installed. But don’t worry — you can skip syncing your iCloud Drive or Photos to PC if you want to access to only your bookmarks. Once you have iCloud set up, it’s merely a matter of downloading the iCloud Bookmarks extension for Chrome or Firefox, and you are ready to go.
To start syncing iPhone bookmarks with your PC, you need to have the iCloud for Windows app installed
If you have a large number of bookmarks stored on both your iPhone and PC, it’s best that you create backups of your bookmarks to prevent any issues that might occur after merging them. Rather than jumping the gun, let’s start by setting up iCloud on PC, and then look into backing up bookmarks before syncing them.
Setting Up iCloud
Setting up iCloud on your PC takes only a moment. If you run into a ‘Missing Media Features’ error during installation, do refer to our troubleshooting guide to solve it.
Step 1: Download and install iCloud for Windows. After installation, restart your PC when prompted.
Download iCloud for Windows
Step 2: Sign in to iCloud using your Apple ID. If you’ve set up two-factor authentication, insert the code as shown on your iPhone to proceed.
Step 3: On the iCloud app that shows up, specify if you want to sync your iCloud Drive and Photos with Windows.
By default, you should see the Bookmarks box checked with Internet Explorer selected automatically. Since you are going to back up your bookmarks next, leave it untouched.
Alternatively, if you want to sync your bookmarks right away, skip ahead to the ‘Syncing Your Bookmarks’ section further below.
Backing Up Your Bookmarks
Backing up bookmarks on your iPhone on browsers such as Chrome or Firefox is a good idea in case any issues crop up after merging them. The following instructions show you how to do that on Safari, Chrome, and Firefox.
iCloud for Windows supports syncing bookmarks from Safari to Chrome and Firefox. It also supports the outdated Internet Explorer browser, which is weird considering the Microsoft Edge is out since a while.
Since the chances of you using Internet Explorer is quite slim (and you really shouldn’t — from a security and performance standpoint), it provides the perfect opportunity to sync your Safari bookmarks without mixing them up with any existing bookmarks. You can back them up easily if needed.
Step 1: On your iPhone, open the Settings app, tap your profile, and then tap iCloud. Under the Apps Using iCloud section, make sure that the toggle next to Safari is turned on.
Step 2: Open the iCloud app on Windows and make sure that the box next to Bookmarks is checked. Now click the Options button listed next to it and then ensure that only Internet Explorer is enabled.
Step 3: Type Internet Explorer into the Start menu, and then press Enter to open Internet Explorer. Click the star-shaped Favorites icon, and you should find your Safari bookmarks synced.
Step 4: Click the arrow next to Add to Favorites, and click Import and Export. Follow the onscreen pop-ups to take a backup of the bookmarks to an HTML file.
To back up your existing bookmarks on Chrome, use the Ctrl+Shift+O keyboard shortcut to bring up the browser’s Bookmarks management panel. Next, click the ellipsis icon at the upper-right corner of the window, and then click Export Bookmarks.
Follow the onscreen prompts to save your bookmarks to an HTML file.
On Firefox, use the Ctrl+Shift+B keyboard shortcut to open the Library. Now click Import and Backup, and then click the Export Bookmarks to an HTML option to create a backup of your bookmarks.
Syncing Your Bookmarks
You have now taken a backup of your bookmarks on iPhone as well as those on your preferred browser on PC. Now it’s time to get to the actual process of syncing them between the two devices.
Step 1: On the iCloud app on Windows 10, click the Options button next to Bookmarks. Uncheck Internet Explorer, and then select the browser (Chrome or Firefox) with which you want to sync your bookmarks with. Click OK, and then click Apply to save your changes.
Step 2: Use the Download button on the pop-up box that shows up to download and install the iCloud Bookmarks extension.
Alternatively, use the Download buttons below to install the extension from either the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons.
Download iCloud Bookmarks for Chrome
Download iCloud Bookmarks for Firefox
Installing the iCloud Bookmarks extension only takes a couple of seconds, and there aren’t any further configurations that you have to go through.
Step 3: Open the Bookmarks manager on Chrome or Library on Firefox. You should find your iPhone bookmarks synced and merged with your existing bookmarks.
Bookmarks that were present in Chrome or Firefox should also be available in Safari on your iPhone.
Any bookmark that you now add while using Chrome or Firefox should sync right over to Safari on your iPhone and vice-versa in real time. Cool, right?
Restoring Bookmarks From a Backup
If you encounter any sync issues on either your iPhone or PC and want to restore them to how they were before, the backups that you created earlier should come in handy. However, you need to disable sync between the devices — either remove or turn off the iCloud Bookmarks extension from Chrome or Firefox to do that.
You can then proceed to restore your bookmarks. On PC, delete all existing bookmarks on your browser, and then use the Import Bookmarks (Chrome) or the Export Bookmarks to HTML (Firefox) functions to get your previous bookmarks using the backups that you created earlier.
On iPhone, delete all existing bookmarks on Safari. Then, use the iCloud app on the PC to enable syncing with Internet Explorer. Even if you’ve removed the bookmarks that you synced to Internet Explorer earlier, you can use the backup file to import them again. That should sync your bookmarks right over to Safari. Later, turn off syncing with Internet Explorer.
Kudos, Apple!
Apple has neatly implemented the functionality to sync your iPhone’s bookmarks with your favorite browser on your PC. Who knew Apple was this considerate? But before we wrap up, here’s a tip.
There’s no way to import bookmarks from Safari to Chrome or Firefox apps on iOS . Instead, you can resort to using this technique as a workaround to sync your bookmarks to Chrome or Safari on PC first, and then sync them back to their respective apps on your iPhone by signing into your Google or Firefox accounts. That’s awesome!

8 iPhone browser apps you should use instead of Safari
By default, the Safari web browser is available on every iPhone, including the iPhone 15 series. Nevertheless, several other web-browsing options can be found on the App Store, each with at least one unique feature that distinguishes it from the others. While some web browser apps like Google Chrome, DuckDuckGo, and Microsoft Edge might already be familiar to you, others such as Aloha and Arc Search may not be.

An essential feature of Chrome is the ability to sign in with your Google Account, which allows you to synchronize bookmarks and browsing history across devices where Chrome is active. Chrome also includes a password manager that stores website login details, simplifying the login process without the need to recall numerous credentials. Users can also leverage Google services like Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos to ensure password accessibility across these platforms for convenience.
In short, Google Chrome emerges as the choice for individuals seeking a browsing experience across their range of devices within the Google ecosystem. If you’re a big Google user, this is the way to go.

Arc Search is the latest addition to the selection of mobile web browsers, and it evolved from its desktop version, which was initially launched in 2023. Arc is unique from other web browsers because it uses artificial intelligence (AI) to perform searches on your behalf. Although it may take some time to get used to, the result is an exciting spin on search .
By utilizing the app’s “Browse for Me” functionality, you can view a typical search page with the AI to gather information from six different sources. This will provide a personalized webpage showcasing all the essential details required to answer your search query.
If you do a traditional search, Arc makes it simple to choose your search engine among a list of choices, starting with your iPhone’s default web browser.
Spaces is an exciting feature of Arc Search that lets you organize tabs and themes for a personalized look. Perhaps best of all, Arc Search prioritizes security and privacy and doesn’t track browser activity or search history. It’s one of the more unique Safari alternatives, but if you want a wholly new web-browsing experience, it’s well worth checking out.

If you’re already using Microsoft Edge on your Mac or PC, you might find the Microsoft Edge browser helpful. It offers password monitoring, ad tracker blocking, and other features many browsers lack. You can use the InPrivate browsing feature to browse the web without saving your browsing history, cookies, or other data. Microsoft Edge also includes AI capabilities through its Copilot tool, which makes searching easier.
With Microsoft Edge, you can sync your favorites, passwords, and browsing data between your mobile device and other devices. You can also earn rewards points through the Microsoft Rewards program, which you can redeem for various benefits like Starbucks gift cards, a free month of Xbox Game Pass, and more.
Microsoft Edge, even with its AI tools, is best considered a traditional browsing tool for mobile and desktop. That alone means it’s not for everyone. Nonetheless, it’s reliable and stable and gets the job done.

Aloha is a web browser that also acts as a private VPN . It comes with an Adblock Plus plug-in to block annoying ads. While it is free, it’s recommended that you purchase one of the premium options after the one-week free trial.
Aloha’s free version includes a VPN that encrypts your internet traffic, making it less likely for you to experience a data breach while browsing anonymously. The built-in ad blocker blocks ads and trackers, improving your browser speed and protecting your privacy. The incognito mode creates a private browsing session that doesn’t save cookies. In addition to its primary function as a VPN service and web browser, Aloha also offers a media player, profile manager, and a Web3 cryptocurrency wallet.
By upgrading to Aloha Premium , you can modify your VPN country selection and configure the VPN to start automatically with the browser. The premium package also extends VPN protection to all devices and includes other premium features. It also removes the occasional ad you’ll see with the free version.
If you want to use Aloha, keep in mind that it currently lacks a desktop version. This means you won’t be able to synchronize your passwords or browsing history across all your devices. If that’s not an issue for you, definitely give this one a look.

AI technology has now been integrated into the Brave browser — making it one of the better Safari alternatives out there. Brave, also available for desktops, offers features similar to other options on this list — such as Adblock, a rewards system, and a crypto wallet. It also includes a built-in VPN service as a feature, with new users eligible for a free week’s trial of the VPN .
Having used Brave for quite some time, I am consistently impressed by its user interface, which stands out for its creativity. I also find that the built-in news feature enhances the overall mobile web-browsing experience.
On a less positive note, while the Brave VPN functions as expected, it is worth noting that it is priced higher than other options on the market. This aspect should be considered before deciding on an in-app purchase. Even so, Brave still stands out as a fantastic Safari replacement.

Opera has been around for a while and has stayed relevant by incorporating new technology as it arrives. A recent enhancement to Opera is an AI feature called Aria, which aims to assist users in navigating the internet effectively by understanding their queries and responding in natural language.
Aria is currently kept separate from the rest of the browser. This setup isn’t necessarily a drawback; it’s simply Opera’s chosen design. In addition to the AI component, Opera includes web browser functions like bookmarks, privacy mode, synchronization, and more. Opera also boasts an Opera Fast Action Button (FAB), a multi-functional tool that makes navigating and switching between recently opened tabs easier. Finally, Opera provides a VPN service that comes with privacy tools at no cost. Combine all of that with a clean and simple interface, and there’s a lot to like with this one.

DuckDuckGo is an exceptional web browser with a reputation for being the ultimate guardian of user privacy. With its advanced capabilities, DuckDuckGo is designed to keep your online identity under wraps and protect you from the prying eyes of third-party advertisers and data collectors. It does this by automatically blocking trackers hidden in the websites you visit, providing you with a safe and stress-free browsing experience.
DuckDuckGo’s user interface is also user-friendly and allows you to personalize your settings according to your preferences. You can turn off images, use the Fire Button to quickly clear your tabs and browsing data, and customize other settings to make your browsing experience seamless.
One of DuckDuckGo’s most remarkable features is its search engine, which doesn’t track your search history. This means you can search for anything you want without worrying about your searches being stored or used for targeted advertisements. If privacy is a top concern for you, DuckDuckGo should be at the top of your list when searching for a Safari replacement.

Firefox Focus is another browser that prioritizes privacy. The browser blocks trackers and ads by default, ensuring that companies do not gather browsing data and habits. This aspect proves beneficial for users who value their privacy.
The browser accelerates page loading times by disabling trackers and data collection, resulting in a better browsing journey. Using Firefox Focus can also reduce mobile data consumption, which is advantageous for users with data plans.

Amid the rise of third-party messaging apps, texting remains a popular means of messaging in the U.S. If you own an Android phone, you've likely used or heard of Google Messages, which is positioned as the default text messaging app for Android. It is the culmination of Google's long history with multiple messaging platforms. Google has pursued smartphone companies to use its Dialer and Messages apps as their default since at least 2017 and now mandates them to use Google Messages as the default messaging app on all devices.
Meanwhile, if you have been a Samsung user in the past, you have likely also known and experienced the Samsung Messages app, which comes preinstalled on all Samsung phones and cannot be uninstalled. This is despite losing its spot as the default messaging app on Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
One of the most interesting iPhone accessories to debut this year is one that wouldn’t have been possible without Apple sneaking a new feature into iOS 17 last fall. While there’s no shortage of iPhone stands and mounts on the market, Belkin’s Stand Pro is something entirely different from the rest.
That’s thanks to Apple’s DockKit. It's a framework for accessory makers to create motorized stands that can follow you around the room. While the concept itself isn’t new, DockKit means that such stands can be significantly more affordable as they don’t need to pack in complex sensors. With DockKit, the iPhone does all the heavy lifting of figuring out where to point itself.
The Apple Watch Series 9 is the best smartwatch you can buy, regardless of the fact you can only use it with an iPhone. It's also great that it comes in three flavors — the Series 9, along with the Apple Watch SE 2, and the Apple Watch Ultra 2 — to suit many more people and pockets than you may first think. However, perhaps you want something a little different on your wrist or even a weekend alternative when you don’t feel like wearing a touchscreen watch.
That’s where this list should help you out, as we’ve gathered eight watches to buy instead of the Apple Watch. Notice I said “watches,” and not just smartwatches, as some non-connected wristwear has been included. Our choices cover the entire Apple Watch range in terms of price, even going above and below, to give you some real inspiration about a watch to buy instead of — or as well as — the superb Apple Watch. Exploring alternative web browsers: beyond Safari on iPhone
A pple Inc.’s standard browser for the iPhone is Safari. However, the App Store provides a plethora of other web application options. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge offer unique features. Chrome is celebrated for its synchronization capabilities, while Firefox boasts powerful privacy tools. Microsoft Edge, offers additional features like vertical tabs and an immersive reader mode – catering to a variety of user preferences. Cross-platform use is also standard with most of these browsers.
Probably the best-known alternative is Google Chrome
One notable alternative is Google Chrome — the world’s most popular internet browser. Known for its user-friendly interface, lightning-fast browsing speeds, and robust security measures, this browser tops many user preferences. Its ability to seamlessly sync bookmarks and search histories via a Google Account, host a built-in password manager, and support a vast array of custom extensions that cater to individual needs makes it particularly noteworthy. Chrome’s translation feature and regular updates ensure it remains an evolving and dynamic platform.
A newer player in the arena, Arc Search, brings artificial intelligence (AI) to the fore with its ‘Browse for Me’ feature. It emphasizes security and privacy, with no storage of browser activity or search history. The AI processes information from six different online sources to generate a personalized webpage based on user queries, thereby revolutionizing online browsing with depth and privacy.
Microsoft Edge is another competitor.
Microsoft Edge is another competitor popular among Mac and PC users who prefer its unique features like password surveillance and ad tracker blocking. It provides a private browsing option, InPrivate, which ensures no browsing history, cookies, or associated data retention. The innovative Copilot tool uses AI technology to streamline searches and promises a seamless user experience by syncing data across devices.
Another alternative is the Aloha Browser, which doubles as a web browser and a security tool. Users can enjoy an ad-free browsing environment with its integrated Adblock Plus plugin. While the browser provides a no-cost, basic version, users can unlock its complete functionality through the premium version, thus offering a versatile and high-performing tool for online navigation.
