Testimonials

“Not knowing how I could pay for all this was killing my spirit, and I was starting to give up.  Thanks to the help you are giving me, I feel motivated again to keep trying.”

- M.H., Cancer Patient from Texas

"You have allowed me to be able to make my treatments and doctor's appointments by doing this. I don't have to choose between food and making my appointments and that is such a blessing.”

- T.C., Cancer Patient from Kentucky

"I can never fully convey to you how much it means to us that you would care as much as you do and take such an interest in two people that you have never met. Your compassion really does help far more than you realize and I am so grateful for your organization."

- Daughter of D.C., Cancer Patient from Kentucky

"The vast majority of people I see are experiencing financial strain. This strain, combined with the rising cost of treatment, health insurance concerns, as well as gas prices, exacerbates the economic ability for many patients to get to cancer treatment. Travel to Hope has helped address this need... patients focus on getting better and surviving cancer, instead of worrying about how they’re going to get to the hospital."

- E.W., Oncology Social Worker

Free Flights for Cancer Treatment

Depending on where you live, you might have to travel near or far for cancer treatment . Appointments that require air travel can get  really  expensive really quickly, even if you're only going such a distance for treatment a few times a year. Luckily, there are flight assistance programs that provide free plane tickets for cancer patients, helping to ease the additional worry of travel costs.

Several organizations help with flights by coordinating their network of volunteer pilots or snagging seats on commercial or corporate jets for free or at a reduced cost. Some are financial need-based organizations, but many are not.

It's worth exploring these options even if you don't think that you'll meet their requirements. What is considered "financial need" may be different from organization to organization, so be sure to check out all of the fine print details of each program.

Here are five reputable organizations worth checking out.

Air Charity Network

This organization coordinates a network of regional flight assistance programs throughout the United States that are operated by volunteer pilots who donate their time and aircrafts to ensure passengers in need get to their destination.

Air Charity Network is a need-based organization and requires that applicants demonstrate a financial or physical need for its services, such as when traveling commercial is cost prohibitive or not safe for certain patients that are immune compromised.

Corporate Angel Network

This organization provides flight assistance to cancer patients, bone marrow recipients and donors, and stem cell recipients and donors by utilizing empty seats on corporate and private jets that are donated by businesses and individuals.

To qualify, patients must fall into one of the above categories, be ambulatory, and not require in-flight medical support or assistance. There is no limit to how often someone can fly with Corporate Angel Network , and assistance is not dependent on financial need.

Angel Airlines for Cancer Patients

Angel Airlines provides free or reduced commercial airline tickets for cancer patients and their families in need. Patients must express a financial need in order to participate in this program, as well as provide their doctor's certification that there is a medical need.

Angel Flight helps patients traveling to medical facilities for evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment all across the United States.

Lifeline Pilots

Lifeline Pilots provides air transportation, courtesy of volunteer pilots, for a range of medical purposes, from diagnosis to treatment. These flights are for cancer patients, as well as those with other diseases.

The organization serves a 10-state area including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. For those who reside outside of the 10-state area, Lifeline Pilots will help coordinate options with other volunteer flight assistance programs.

There is no limit on the number of flights that a patient can utilize. However, you must establish a financial need and be medically stable for the flight.

Mercy Medical Angels

Mercy Medical Angels coordinates free commercial airline tickets by using donated frequent flyer miles as well as utilizing its network of volunteer pilots. The organization has been providing patients and their companions with free flights since 1972, which has amounted to hundreds of thousands of trips over the course of its decades in service.

Mercy Medical Angels also offers a ground transportation program with bus and Amtrak tickets, as well as gas cards if a patient has a car available to them.

Patients must demonstrate financial need and require little or no medical assistance in transit, depending on the type of transportation. Mercy Medical Angels also has a special program for veterans.

New Program Offers Patients Free Transportation to Cancer Appointments During COVID-19 Pandemic

COA/Cancer Care Patient Assistance Transportation Program ensures continued access to cancer treatments

A new program offers complimentary, door-to-door transportation for patients with cancer needing help getting to and from medical appointments with their community oncology practice during the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) pandemic.

The Community Oncology Alliance (COA) and Cancer_Care_ , national leaders in advocacy and support for people affected by cancer, launched the COA/Cancer Care Patient Assistance Transportation Program to ensure patients continue to receive vital cancer treatments from licensed community oncology professionals they know and trust. The program is open to patients receiving cancer care at a registered practice who do not have the ability to travel due to COVID-19.

  • Community oncology practices can register for the program on the COA website at https://communityoncology.org/patient-assistance-transportation-program/

Starting this week, staff at oncology practices can request rides for patients when they book an appointment at least 24 hours in advance. Transportation is provided by GroundLink , a leading national provider of transportation services. GroundLink will be taking precautions to ensure the cleanliness of their vehicles. Licensed drivers will arrive wearing a mask and medical-grade gloves. Each car is disinfected before and after every ride. The costs for each trip taken through the program is completely covered, and there is no charge to patients or practices.

“A global pandemic doesn’t slow the need for cancer treatments and community oncology practices continue to be there for patients in need,” said Michael Diaz, MD, President of the Community Oncology Alliance and Director of Patient Advocacy at Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute. “No one should have to compromise their health and safety because they are reluctant to travel to medical appointments. This program ensures that patients will continue to get the treatments and care they need at the right time and in the best possible setting.”

“It’s truly amazing what we can accomplish when we work together to help vulnerable patients in this time of great need,” said Patricia J. Goldsmith, Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Care , a national nonprofit providing counseling, education, and financial assistance to people affected by cancer. “Cancer Care has devoted decades to expanding access to cancer care and services. The COA/Cancer Care Patient Assistance Transportation Program ensures people with cancer can continue their treatments.”

The COA/Cancer Care Patient Assistance Transportation Program is being made possible by a charitable donation from Bristol Myers Squibb.

About the Community Oncology Alliance (COA) The majority of Americans battling cancer receive treatment in the community oncology setting. Keeping patients close to their homes, families, and support networks lessens the impact of this devastating disease. Community oncology practices do this while delivering high-quality, cutting-edge cancer care at a fraction of the cost of the hospital setting. The Community Oncology Alliance (COA) advocates for community oncology and smart public policy that ensures the community cancer care system remains healthy and able to provide all Americans with access to local, quality, affordable cancer care.

American Cancer Society and Extended Stay America partner to broaden access to cancer care.

October 6, 2022 • By American Cancer Society

Lodging expenses can present a significant financial barrier to cancer patients when the most effective treatment requires traveling away from home. To reduce disparities in cancer outcomes and help patients affordably receive the treatment needed, Extended Stay America is renewing its partnership with the American Cancer Society to offer 20,000 free and 40,000 reduced rate nights at more than 760 Extended Stay America locations nationwide.

In 2022, more than 1.9 million new cancer cases will be diagnosed in the United States. In a large national study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI) in April, American Cancer Society researchers found U.S. cancer survivors who reported medical financial hardship had a higher mortality risk.

“People from all backgrounds and household incomes are diagnosed with cancer each year. We’re excited to re-ignite this partnership with Extended Stay America to broaden access to treatment options,” said Dr. Arif Kamal , chief patient officer of the American Cancer Society. “Cancer treatment is a financial burden no one is expecting. To improve cancer outcomes, we must do what we can to alleviate the cost of care. The Extended Stay America rooms offered as part of this partnership make traveling to the best treatment easier and ultimately, save lives.”

“All of us at Extended Stay America are honored to be the Official Hotel Partner of the American Cancer Society,” said Greg Juceam, President and CEO, Extended Stay America. “We are proud to help patients with cancer by providing a home-like place to stay so patients can focus on getting the most effective treatment. This would not have been possible without the support of our owners, Blackstone and Starwood.”

Patients living more than 40 miles from treatment with a demonstrated need for lodging assistance are eligible for the program. After eligibility is verified by the American Cancer Society’s National Cancer Information Center, reservations can be made by the patient through a dedicated website.

Since the partnership began in 2013, Extended Stay America has donated more than 150,000 hotel room nights throughout the US, saving patients with cancer and their families over $9 million in lodging costs. The American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge communities are also available to cancer patients. In 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily paused services, these communities served more than 29, 000 people with cancer and their caregivers, providing more than 500,000 free nights of lodging.

From 1991 to 2019, there has been a 32% decline in cancer mortality. The American Cancer Society can directly attribute declines in the overall cancer death rate to investment of funds and resources in the areas of advocacy, discovery, and direct patient support. The Society believes all people should have a fair and just opportunity to live a longer, healthier life free from cancer regardless of how much money they make, skin color, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status or where they live.

More Financial Help for Cancer Patients

The financial burdens of cancer are immense. The costs of treatment, travel, copays, and medication all add up rather quickly and pile on an already stressful situation. Yes, insurance can help cover some of the costs of treatment, but it’s often limited and doesn’t cover the full cost of care. Private charities and non-profit organizations like the ones above provide financial help for patients with cancer by filling that gap through grants, copay relief, prescription assistance and more. If you need help locating a program, please get in touch with us . We are here for you.

Lyft Gives Free Rides to Cancer Patients Heading to Treatment

The american cancer society road to recovery program provides transportation to and from treatment for people with cancer who do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves..

Cancer patients shouldn’t feel stressed about how they’ll get to their appointments, and for many, accessible transportation is a literal life-saver. Thanks to Lyft’s partnership with the American Cancer Society (ACS), those battling cancer and are unable to drive themselves won’t need to worry about the logistics and can focus solely on feeling well. The free platform enables patients to use the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program , which then notifies Lyft and provides a ride to their appointment. One American Cancer Society spokesperson said that transportation is often a barrier when it comes to getting patients the treatment they need. "Lack of transportation remains one of the biggest roadblocks to receiving high-quality cancer care," they told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "Our expanded partnership with Lyft will help us provide more cancer patients with access to potentially life saving treatments." So far, the program functions in Miami and Las Vegas, and will soon be accessible in Atlanta, Cincinnati, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, and St. Louis. On their website , ACS shares how volunteers can give their time towards Road to Recovery, and give patients the rides they need to potentially save lives and serve as an asset to their community. It’s no secret that fighting against cancer involves numerous struggles. Those struggles can continue even after a person survives cancer. It’s important to know that friends and family members of cancer patients and survivors are supporting them to make life easier.

Jump ahead to these sections:

Freebies and discounts for cancer patients, freebies and discounts for those in remission.

One way to do so is to let them know about free stuff for cancer patients and survivors. Whether you’re looking for free gifts for cancer patients , or you want to help someone with cancer access a valuable service at no cost, you’ll find there are many organizations that serve this purpose.

The following are just a few examples worth learning about. Keep them in mind if you’re seeking out free stuff for cancer patients.

It’s important that cancer patients focus on their health as much as possible while undergoing treatment, instead of letting other responsibilities drain their energy. Doing so is much easier with these free services:

1. Mercy Medical Angels: Free transportation

A lot of free stuff for cancer patients is actually available to patients with a range of other serious illnesses.

For example, the team at Mercy Medical Angels understands that getting treatment for a serious medical condition can often require a substantial amount of travel. They help by offering cancer patients and others like them free transportation when a patient needs to travel to receive medical care.

They do so in a variety of ways. Patients who need to drive long distances to get treatment can qualify for free gas cards or bus fare. Those traveling by train may be eligible for free train tickets. Thanks to volunteer pilots, patients can also travel by air for free.

Those interested in providing free stuff for cancer patients can also get involved, for instance, by donating unused frequent flier miles or volunteering.

2. American Cancer Society: Free lodging

Travel costs aren’t the only expenses a cancer patient may incur when getting treatment. Those undergoing outpatient treatment will typically also need to pay for lodging.

Luckily, the American Cancer Society coordinates with hotels throughout the country, helping such cancer patients find free or discounted lodging options. They offer these services to patients of all ages, as well as patients with children who may accompany them.

3. Cleaning for a Reason: Free cleaning services

A clean home can have a dramatic impact on the mood and wellness of anyone. When someone is struggling with cancer, even seemingly small pleasures like this can help make their day-to-day life just a little bit easier.

Unfortunately, keeping a home clean can also be difficult when you’re a cancer patient. Treatments can weaken a patient physically, to the point that cleaning is too demanding a task. Additionally, because cancer treatment can be expensive, many cancer patients can’t afford to hire a cleaning service.

That was the case for one cancer patient who reached out to Debbie Sardone, owner of Buckets & Bows Maid Service. She’d called Sardone asking about the cost of her services. When Sardone provided a quote, the caller said she wouldn’t be able to afford her services due to the cost of her cancer treatment, then quickly hung up.

Sardone’s mother had survived cancer. She realized she had the opportunity to help people like her mother and the woman who had recently called her. After sharing her story with other cleaning companies at a major trade show, she started coordinating with others to establish Cleaning for a Reason.

Cleaning for a Reason serves cancer patients throughout the U.S. and Canada. It helps patients find cleaning companies in their area that will offer their services for free. The organization now has more than 1,200 partners, allowing it to serve a large number of cancer patients.

4. Imerman Angels: Free one-on-one support

It’s important that cancer patients receive support from loved ones and doctors. However, while these people may be able to offer sympathy, they might not be able to offer true empathy. This is simply because if they’ve never had cancer they can’t genuinely know what a cancer patient is going through.

That’s what makes the service Imerman Angels provides so valuable. Imerman Angels provides cancer patients with free one-on-one support from someone who has already been in their position. This gives them a chance to discuss their feelings with someone who can actually understand what they’re going through. Like reading terminal cancer blogs or reading cancer books , discussing one’s feelings with the right person can be very helpful for a cancer patient.

It’s also worth noting that the support Imerman Angels provides doesn’t necessarily end once a patient beats cancer. They may also continue to take advantage of this free service as a cancer survivor.

Imerman Angels offers this free service to people of any age and gender. They carefully work to match cancer patients and survivors with the ideal individual for their personal needs and circumstances.

Again, the challenges cancer patients face don’t entirely go away once they’re cancer-free. Recovery is often a very long road. These organizations make that journey a little easier:

5. Livestrong at the YMCA: Free physical training for cancer survivors

You may know about Livestrong due to its association with Lance Armstrong, one of the world’s most famous cancer survivors . Although the controversy surrounding Armstrong’s use of performance-enhancing substances forced him to step down from the organization’s board in 2012, he still helped build something that provides valuable services to many.

One way they do so is through the Livestrong at the YMCA program. As the organization surveyed and spoke with numerous cancer survivors, it became clear that rebuilding strength and returning to physical activity is one of the most challenging experiences many face after surviving cancer.

Livestrong at the YMCA strives to address this by connecting cancer survivors with personal trainers. They develop exercise programs designed for the specific needs of a given survivor. Cancer survivors can work with their trainers for 12 weeks for either no cost or a discounted rate. This training can quite literally help survivors get back on their feet after one of life’s most draining experiences.

Research indicates the program is also yielding measurable benefits for cancer survivors. For example, through surveys, those involved in the program have learned that participants end up less likely to experience fatigue and other lingering symptoms that often strike those recovering from cancer.

6. Cancer and Careers: Free employment help

Returning to a “normal” lifestyle is one of the most important goals for many cancer survivors. If a survivor’s cancer prevented them from working while they were undergoing treatment, returning to normal can partially involve finding a rewarding job.

This can naturally be challenging. When you’ve been out of the workforce for some time, you may struggle to find a way back in.

Cancer and Careers offers help in these circumstances. They provide cancer survivors (as well as patients) with free resume feedback from qualified professionals, giving them advice about steps they can take to boost their odds of finding employment. They also offer such free resources as a job search toolkit, which cancer survivors and patients can download via their website.

7. Chemocessories: Free scarves, turbans, jewelry

Something that may help a breast cancer survivor feel beautiful after undergoing chemotherapy is often one of the best cancer survivor gifts you can give. Iris Lee Knell, who survived breast cancer after a 2009 diagnosis, understands this.

That’s why she started Chemocessories . This organization provides breast cancer survivors with free scarves, turbans, jewelry, and other items that can help them feel better about their appearance as they recover. Like many of the other organizations on this list, Chemocessories serves both breast cancer patients and survivors.

8. First Descents: Outdoor adventures for youth

It’s important that young cancer patients and survivors not feel as though their diagnosis defines them. One way to ensure that doesn’t happen is to focus on developing strength and skills through outdoor adventures.

That’s the idea behind First Descents . Serving both young cancer patients and young cancer survivors, this organization provides them with access to free outdoor recreational programs that involve paddling, climbing, and surfing to ultimately help them define their own identities.

The physical nature of these adventures can also provide young cancer survivors with many of the same benefits of the Livestrong at the YMCA program. By exercising in the form of fun outdoor activities, they may develop the strength necessary to recover more quickly than they otherwise would. They can also connect with other young people who’ve shared experiences like theirs, which is often very helpful at times when they may still need some support from understanding friends.

Lyft Significantly Expands Program Offering Free Rides to Cancer Patients

Brendan Dorsey

Lyft is expanding its service of offering free rides to cancer patients.

As part of Lyft's existing partnership with the American Cancer Society (ACS), the company and charity are growing the Road to Recovery program that provides complimentary rides to cancer patients headed to and from their treatments. The ride-hailing company launched a test of the program in Miami last fall, and it's proven to be successful.

The program's now available in Atlanta, Cincinnati, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia St. Louis and possibly other cities. You can call 1-800-227-2345 or visit www.cancer.org to see if your in an eligible area and to coordinate a ride. The ACS will then book a ride through Lyft's concierge service.

It's recommended to call the ACS a few days before your appointment to make sure you can get a ride for the best time that works for you.

Lyft also offers free rides to those with Blue Cross Blue Shield plans in transportation deserts. Uber has a similar program, Uber Health, that ferries patients to their medical appointments.

For those who'd like to volunteer to give cancer patients free rides (you don't have to be a Lyft driver to volunteer), you can visit the Road to Recovery website .

Planning a trip to Universal Orlando? We did it. Here’s what we loved and learned

Chuck Jackson , Assignment Editor

I recently traveled with my family of four to Universal in Orlando, Florida. With a family of four and one day to explore we used a park hopper pass for Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.

We went in without a plan, shame on us, which made having an express pass a necessity. This cut the wait time in half for most of the rides.

Recommended Videos

Our first stop was at the ride called Despicable Me Minion Mayhem. This ride places your family in the minion world with sound effects, scents, etc. as you are, “transformed,” into a minion and back to a human.

Next up was E.T. Adventure taking you back to the 1980s loved movie, where the kids enjoyed the ride and the adults took in the nostalgia.

Next on our list was to look for a roller coaster that our youngest son could ride (since he is 48 inches tall and too short to ride the larger roller coasters) so we boarded the Hogwarts Express to head to Islands of Adventure.

At Islands of Adventure our first ride was Flight of the Hippogriff, which had virtually no wait with our express passes . Unfortunately, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure was closed for unknown reasons, but this gives us a reason to visit the park another day.

Then we headed to the Jurassic World VelociCoaster, which has a 51-inch height minimum, so mom and oldest son rode this coaster, while dad and youngest headed towards Pteranodon Flyers. Our son said the VelociCoaster, “was crazy but I want to ride it again.”

Next up was Skull Island: Reign of Kong which was 4D and jam packed with constant movement, 3D King Kong coming at us and even some light water making you feel as if you were part of the movie.

Our next thrill ride was The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man which was another 4D experience making us part of the action-packed movie. Following this ride, I tapped out due to motion sickness, but the kids wanted more so that’s what we did!

Then, due to our lack of planning and the Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast being out of service earlier, we headed back to Universal Studios on foot by the entrance. The Minion Blast is an interactive game where you shoot laser guns at villains from the movie and was a huge hit with the kids. Then we hit a few more rides, Transformers, Men in Black, Simpson’s and The Mummy prior to stopping to enjoy the Mardi Gras Parade to end the day.

If I could go back and change anything about our visit, I would highly recommend looking at the interactive maps to figure out what you want to do in order to plan your day so you don’t have to go back and forth. In addition, I would be mindful of height restrictions if you have any small children with you. Thankfully the Express Pass enabled us to enjoy all of the rides we wanted to due to short wait times.

Highly recommend visiting Universal Studios Orlando, we will be back!

The Sky News live poll tracker - collated and updated by our Data and Forensics team - aggregates various surveys to indicate how voters feel about different political parties.

Labour is still sitting comfortably on a roughly 19-point lead, averaging at 43.9% in the polls, with the Tories on 24.5%.

In third is Reform UK on 10.1%, followed by the Lib Dems on 9.5%.

The Green Party stands at 5.9%, and the SNP on 3.2%.

See the latest update below - and you can read more about the methodology behind the tracker  here .

One year ago, Rishi Sunak made five pledges for voters to judge him on.

The prime minister met his pledge to halve inflation by the end of 2023, leaving four pledges outstanding.

However, he is faring less well with his other pledges.

It has been confirmed the UK is now in recession, which means the PM's pledge to grow the economy is not being met.

With the general election approaching, how is Mr Sunak doing on delivering his other promises?

You can see the progress for yourself below.

From the US to India, across Africa, Europe and the UK, our expert correspondents take a look at 2024's biggest ballots - as we ask - how will this global year of the election shape the world?

This morning, Theresa May became the 60th Conservative MP to announce she will stand down from parliament at the next election.

Mrs May was first elected to parliament in 1997, the year of the landslide Labour win.

After toiling for 13 years in opposition, she became home secretary in 2010, before becoming Britain's second female prime minister in 2016.

She steered the nation through a time of immense political turmoil following the Brexit vote, and there were plenty of unforgettable moments during her time in office before she left Downing Street in 2019.

From catchy slogans to legendary dance moves, here are the highs and lows of Mrs May's premiership:

Lord Cameron has paid tribute to Theresa May after the former prime minister announced she will step down as an MP at the next election.

Mrs May, who has been the MP for Maidenhead for 27 years, was prime minister from 2016 to 2019.

Lord Cameron, who was succeeded as PM by Mrs May, described her as a "brilliant public servant" and said she has a "string of great achievements to her name".

"She can hold her head high," he added.

"She's been a great public servant, and I think the House of Commons will miss her.

By Alan McGuinness , digital politics assistant editor

It started with a pledge on the steps of Downing Street to tackle "burning injustices", but Brexit sapped her energy and her time in office ended with an emotional goodbye.

As Theresa May announces she is stepping down as an MP at the next election, we take a look back at the highs and lows from her three years as prime minister from 2016 to 2019.

All my bandwidth this week has been given over to the spring budget, the moment of the year when Chancellor Jeremy Hunt tells us his plans for the economy - how he's going to cut our taxes, or increase and set out where he's going to spend some of our money.

But this week was a tale of two budgets: the one obsessed over in Westminster and then the budget of Birmingham Council , which has huge repercussions for the city's one million plus population.

I didn't think much about the Birmingham story over the past few days as I joined the rest of the Westminster village in obsessing about whether the chancellor was going to cut national insurance or income tax, administer further public spending cuts to boost tax giveaways (and give a future Labour government a headache) or nick the opposition's plan to abolish tax breaks for so-called wealthy "non-doms" who live in the UK with a permanent home overseas.

FYI: Hunt didn't shave more off future spending plans, but they did nick Labour's plan to scrap non-dom plan to raise £2.7bn for tax cuts.

But the dire situation of many councils across England is perhaps what is closer to the hearts of our Electoral Dysfunction listeners.

Sure, the national budget matters hugely in setting the economic direction of our country and deciding on what public services with prioritise.

But local council budgets service much of our daily bread and butter.

By Alexandra Rogers , political reporter

George Galloway's hopes of recruiting Jeremy Corbyn to his party have been dashed after sources close to the former Labour leader dismissed the idea he would join forces with the newly-elected MP for Rochdale.

Upon entering parliament last week following his controversial victory in the Rochdale by-election, Mr Galloway appealed to Mr Corbyn to "launch and lead" a new alliance of socialists and questioned why he had "procrastinated for so long" about his political future.

But sources close to Mr Corbyn - who remains suspended from the parliamentary Labour Party - have told Sky News Mr Galloway and Mr Corbyn working together was "never going to happen".

A former aide told Sky News: "Galloway wants Jeremy to be the leader of some new great movement, but I don't think Jeremy would do that. He doesn't need Galloway's baggage."

Read the full story here:

After cutting national insurance for the second time in yesterday's budget, the prime minister has said it's his "long-term ambition" to eventually scrap the tax.

As only those in work pay it, it's seen by many – including the chancellor - as an unfair double tax on those in the workforce.

But completely abolishing it would cost the government £46bn.

Labour has criticised the plans, saying the move would cost more than the cuts unveiled in Liz Truss' chaotic mini-budget, and the director of the Institute of Fiscal Studies called it unrealistic.

On this edition of the Sky News Daily , Niall Paterson is joined by Greg Thwaites from the Resolution Foundation and Linda Yueh, broadcaster and economist, to explore how realistic scrapping national insurance would be and why it's so tricky to simplify the tax system.

And,  political editor Beth Rigby pops in to discuss how this idea is playing out politically.
