A highlight of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter is seeing the model of Hogwarts.

Though you won't find Eeylops Owl Emporium, Flourish and Blotts, Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes or Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions in London 's streets, that doesn't mean you can't indulge in the world of "Harry Potter." Knowledgeable witches and wizards lead themed tours that discuss not only filming locations for the beloved Potter films, but also the wizarding world's most famous individuals like Harry, Ron, Hermione, Dumbledore and He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.

Consulting Muggle traveler opinion as well as expert input from the top witches and wizards, U.S. News & World Report found the best Harry Potter London tours on offer.

Note: These tours take place on foot, by bus or on trains, so it's best to leave your brooms and Floo powder at home.

Get comfortable in your seat, sit back, and relax as your guide offers HP-themed commentary filled with thrilling insight and information hard to find anywhere else.

You’ll not only learn about the films and sets, but about where JK Rowling gained inspiration for so many concepts featured in the legendary books. If you’re looking to meet fellow Potterheads, it’s a great way to do so and chat about the experience with other “muggles”.

Pass Number 12, Grimmauld Place, known as the beloved, Sirius Black, in the Order of the Phoenix. You’ll get to see Diagon Alley – one of the first “magic” places that you see in the books and films.

It’s where Hogwarts students get their school supplies, including their wands. Don’t forget to grab a pint at the Leaky Cauldron wizarding pub!

No Harry Potter London tour is complete without a visit to perhaps the most popular HP photo op: Platform 9 ¾. The trolley placed halfway through muggle and magic worlds is located publicly at the station for everyone to take some fun snaps with.

7. The Magic of Harry Potter Private Guided Tour for Kids and Families in London

  • Departure:  Piccadilly Circus, London W1B, UK
  • Includes:  Local guide, professional art historian guide, professional kid-friendly guide

Last but certainly not least, we bring you The Magic of Harry Potter Private Guided Tour for Kids and Families in London .

This is yet another 3-hour tour perfect for people of all ages. However, this is a private and personalized experience so it’s tailored exactly to you and your group’s interests.

Your tour will start out by meeting your guide at Piccadilly Circus, located in central London. The station is also very easy to access by the tube, and you’ll meet your guide right outside the Criterion Theatre.

You can choose either the morning or afternoon tour, depending on which works better with your schedule. If you are bringing kids along, this is absolutely one of the best options. The guides are excellent with younger participants, keeping them entertained the entire time.

As it is a walking tour, you definitely don’t want kids to get bored – but these 3 hours will fly by for all of you!

Start out in the infamous Leicester Square known for its clubs, pubs, and shops. It’s also home to the legendary Odeon cinema, which has been the location for each one of the Harry Potter movies!

Next is Trafalgar Square: one of the most important in London which was made in 1830 to commemorate the British victory against the French and Spanish.

Relating it back to Harry Potter, the square is also seen with a bunch of Death Eaters appearing on their way to Diagon Alley, where they end up taking Garrick Ollivander. You and your group will then head to Leadenhall Market which was the actual location used for Diagon Alley in the Philosopher’s Stone.

Aside from these iconic spots, your guide will take you to various others and teach you all about how they were used in the films.

Way better than Orlando

This tour exceeded all of my expecations. Amazing.

Thanks. Loved seeing locations around London in addition to Studio tour. Only suggestion mention bronze Harry Potter statue in front of theater/casino. There are three or more casinos in that area.

BEST DAY EVER

I must say that I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, I've been obsessed since I was a little kid. Having a day in London fully dedicated to my favorite books was so great. The tour in the city was really cool to see all the filming sites, then the studios was so awesome. The sets were so cool, the miniatures are really interesting. It's so incredible to see how the movies are made.

Inside the World’s Biggest Harry Potter Travel Destination

① warner brothers studio tour.

T he Warner Brothers Studio Tour may lack theme park rides, but it makes dreams come true for Harry Potter fans, especially in London and Tokyo. These two international versions of the immersive movie studio tour, which also operates in Hollywood, are solely dedicated to the making of “Harry Potter”. They exhibit sets, costumes, and props from the Harry Potter movies for about 3 to 4 hours.

The London version of the tour was selected as the most in-demand attraction in the UK in a 2023 analysis by the nation’s largest hotel chain, Premier Inn. The Tokyo version opened in June 2023 and has become the world’s largest indoor Harry Potter attraction.

Many tourists may think Universal Studios has more to do with Harry Potter. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Orlando is divided into two parks, and visitors can choose either Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley.

② A globally popular attraction

The Warner Brothers Studio Tour London ranks jointly first as the world’s most in-demand tourist attraction, following Germany’s Neuschwanstein Castle and Peru’s Machu Picchu. The tour is adjacent to the practical Warner Brothers Studio Leavesden, just outside London, where the Harry Potter movies were made.

Thus, you will see many of the costumes and sets, like the cavernous Great Hall, are the originals used during filming. This is where the reunion special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts was filmed for HBO Max in 2022.

As you explore the expansive tour, you follow in the footsteps of stars such as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.

The tour opened in 2012, after the end of the eight-part Harry Potter series, and in 2019 and 2022, two newly rebuilt sets, Gringotts Wizarding Bank and Professor Sprout’s Greenhouse, were added.

The bank run by goblins, including the Lestrange Vault, is a unique tour course that cannot be seen at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo.

The Hollywood tour includes a greenhouse exhibit, but it is smaller in scale than London, where you can experience pulling out a screaming Mandrake root. And, of course, there’s a Butterbeer bar.

③ Meeting Harry Potter in Tokyo, Japan

Harry Potter naturally fits in the UK, his home country, where studios can be visited in real life, rather than other filming locations outside theme parks. While it might be hard to expect a larger sanctuary of his adventures in Japan, the Warner Brothers Studio Tour Tokyo is precisely that kind of place.

Located on the former amusement park site in Nerima Ward, it reproduces many of the same movie sets as the London tour, with a few big and small differences. For instance, you’re likelier to see things like the toothy Monster Book of Monsters at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka.

The massive Ministry of Magic set (above photo) is unique to Tokyo. It features a Floo Network fireplace, where you can teleport through green smoke, centered around the Magic Is Might monument.

At the end of the tour for Japanese and English-speaking visitors, you arrive at the world’s largest Harry Potter gift shop. Towering shelves in the store are stacked with orbs, similar to those in the Hall of Prophecy.

You can explore a small warehouse of souvenirs that match the actual costumes and props, including the Goblet of Fire. Like the London tour, the Warner Brothers Studio Tour Tokyo is so popular that you must book online.

Euston itself is served/accessed by a good half dozen tube lines, incl the Circle line, which is maybe the most useful for visitors to London because it connects so many places of interest. Staying somewhere in easy reach of that will give you the greatest ease and widest range of choices for getting about.

Be aware that it sells out three months in advance so book as soon as you know your dates

harry potter london tours

False information in #1. Euston is served by two underground lines , the Northern line and the Victoria line .. The Euston or Kings Cross areas have lots of hotels etc and would be a good choice for a short stay.

harry potter london tours

As neither the Northern nor Victoria lines serve Watford Junction from Euston station, it's moot that they are the two Tube lines at that station. The Circle, Metropolitan, and Hammersmith & CIty lines don't call at Euston but at nearby Euston Square.

Transport from Euston to Watford Junction is with West Midlands Trains (travel time about 20 minutes) or the Overground (travel time about 50 minutes).

After you book the tour then you can sort out accommodation. Let us know the number of adults and children under 16 in your party as well as your budget per night.

Two lines directly David but how many more in are in its immediate vicinity and via King's Cross - another five?

Today I put my left shoe on my right foot as it was in the immediate vicinity of the other one.

And Lynsey, if you arrive at Stansted and decide to choose the Euston or Kings Cross area then take the over-ground train to Tottenham Hale and change there for the Victoria line on the London Underground .

As already advised it does not have to be that area for your hotel as London transport is comprehensive and will get you from A to B quite easily.

Warner Bros. Demands Imprisonment, Seeks Punishment for ‘Harry Potter’ Lawsuit

in Harry Potter

A conductor in a red vest smiles in front of the Hogwarts Express at Universal Orlando.

Warner Bros. Entertainment is currently caught up in a legal battle over Harry Potter , and it’s demanding harsh consequences for the perpetrator in question.

The film studio – which owns the screen rights to the Wizarding World franchise – has reportedly been in an ongoing debate since 2019 when it first sued Kelvin Ching Kai-lim, the director of an unlicensed Harry Potter cafe named 9 3/4 cafe in Hong Kong.

Guests ride the Hogwarts Express

According to The Standard , a judge sided with Warner Bros. and ordered the cafe to remove all references to the franchise, as well as to share all its audited accounts with the studio.

Despite the cafe’s existence constituting trademark and copyright infringement , it has continued to operate for five years. Warner Bros. discovered this fact in September 2023 when solicitors visited the cafe on behalf of the studio, where they found that all banners, signs, and promotional materials with the words “9 3/4 cafe” remained. Its social media platforms also continued to run as per usual.

The cafe’s name and theming is a direct reference to Platform Nine and Three Quarters, the Kings Cross station from which Harry, Ron, Hermione, and their fellow students ride the Hogwarts Express between London and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the iconic book and film series.

In an effort to reclaim the IP, Warner Bros. has now filed a writ asking for Hong Kong’s High Court to imprison the director of the Mong Kok cafe. The studio has also asked the court to impose a fine on that will cover all legal costs.

Guests stare at the Hogwarts Express at Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo

There are plenty of Harry Potter -themed bars, restaurants, and cafes across the globe. However, Warner Bros. has a documented history of cracking down on unauthorized use of Harry Potter  IP. In 2007, the studio and the franchise’s author, JK Rowling, famously sued a group building a façade for a Hindu festival in Kolkata, India, over claims that they had recreated Hogwarts without its permission.

More recently, it sued Random Tuesday – a non-profit running group based in Connecticut – for its use of  Harry Potter references in its “fandom-themed virtual running events,” for which it also sold commemorative merchandise. Its lawsuit also covered the unauthorized use of  Gilmore Girls  IP, which also falls under Warner Bros.
