Preparing for the Cruise Experience

Embark on a journey where the elegance of effervescent champagne meets the sweeping grandeur of the Seine. Your preparations will set the stage for an experience that marries Parisian charm with the subtleties of a refined palate.

Choosing the Right Cruise

Select a cruise that caters to your time preferences and group dynamics. Cruises vary by departure time and may include options for sunset or early morning departures . Group size is crucial; intimate experiences often cater to smaller groups, allowing for a more personal tasting session. Check for availability and ensure your reservation meets industry-leading trust and safety standards . The meeting point, often at Port de Suffren , is accessible by public transportation and is a stone’s throw from the Eiffel Tower—the iconic backdrop for your Parisian adventure.

What to Expect on Board

As you step aboard, be greeted by an air of exclusivity in the private room dedicated to your tasting. An English-speaking sommelier, both guide and guardian of grape secrets , will enrich your cruise with live commentary that dances between the decadence of your drink and the historical heartbeat of Paris drifting by. The tour includes a curated tasting of Champagnes, handpicked to epitomize the region’s heritage. Weather is rarely an obstruction, as the experience is designed to be delightful rain or shine. Gratuities are at your discretion and not included in the tour price unless specified. The vessel’s amenities are crafted with comfort in mind; though wheelchair accessibility may be offered, verify specifics in advance to ensure a seamless experience.

Tips for an Enhanced Experience

To fully savor the moment, here are actions you can partake in:

  • Dress for the weather ; Parisian conditions can be unpredictable, so layers are advised.
  • Arrive early at the meeting place, allowing yourself to transition peacefully from the Paris bustle to the tranquility of the Seine.
  • Engage with your sommelier ; their knowledge is a gateway to the finer nuances of Champagnes.
  • Cancellation policies are typically generous, but it’s wise to understand them fully when booking. The lowest price guarantee ensures you’re partaking in an experience that’s both grand and grounded in value. Hotel pickup and drop-off are not common inclusions, so plan your commute accordingly.

As you align these practicalities with anticipation, you are well-positioned to toast to the treasures of Paris aboard an unforgettable Champagne tasting cruise.

Champagne Selection and Tasting

As you glide along the Seine, the real pleasure begins when the cork is popped and the champagne tasting commences. Here, below the effervescent surface, lies a voyage of taste and elegance.

The Art of Champagne Tasting

To truly appreciate the nuanced ballet of bubbles on your palate, the art of champagne tasting is unveiled before you. Vincent , your master sommelier, expertly guides you through the swirl, sniff, and sip . Every tasting becomes a masterclass, with each bottle of champagne telling its own storied past through hints of apple, oak, or brioche .

  • Look : Observe the color and bubble finesse.
  • Swirl : Gently aerate the champagne.
  • Sniff : Detect the subtle fragrances.
  • Sip : Savor the complexity of flavors.

Exploring Different Types of Champagne

Your journey through champagne is much like your cruise down the Seine—diverse and full of discovery. You’ll encounter everything from the vibrant intensity of a Brut to the playful sweetness of a Demi-sec . You may even compare the crispness of the finest French champagnes to notable cousins like the Italian Prosecco and Spanish Cava .

  • Brut : Dry, with a delicate balance of fruit and yeast.
  • Demi-sec : Sweet, with a soft finish.
  • Prosecco/Cava : Looking beyond French borders for comparison.

Interacting with the Sommelier

Your interaction with the sommelier transforms education into a personal adventure. The sommelier doesn’t just pour; they reveal. Ask them about the soil where the grapes matured or the cellars where the bottles slept. Their knowledge is a beacon, illuminating the intricate world of fine champagnes .

  • Inquire : Ask about the champagne’s origin.
  • Learn : Gain insights into the production process.
  • Engage : Share your preferences for a tailored experience.

Cruise Itinerary and Landmarks

As you glide along the currents of the River Seine, an escapade of sensory enchantment awaits. Embark on an itinerary meticulously crafted to intertwine historical grandeur with the luxurious embrace of a champagne-tasting journey.

Pont Neuf : The oldest standing bridge across the river invites contemplation. Each stone arch bears a story, a silent witness to Parisian life swirling around and under its enduring structure.

Musée d’Orsay : Once a beaux-arts railway station, now a repository of artistic treasures, Musée d’Orsay aligns with your cruise route offering vistas that inspire art lovers and historians alike.

  • Louvre : Wonder awaits as you drift by the iconic pyramid of the Louvre , the home of cherished masterpieces that bridge time and culture. It challenges your senses, much like the complexity of the champagne bouquet that teases your palate.

#1. Maxim's Champagne Cruise Along the Seine

Maxims Champagne Cruise Along the Seine

From our friends at Ô Chateau , the most trusted wine tasting salon in Paris, comes this new champagne cruise created in collaboration with historic 19th-century bistro, Maxim's de Paris . The sparkly fun takes place on an exquisite Belle Époque bateau . Board the boat at the food of Notre Dame and glide past the Hotel de Ville, the Eiffel Tower, and a host of iconic Paris landmarks, a professional sommelier offers highlights of the views, while pouring flights of champagnes.

#2. The Boat With The Bubbly

Champagne Tasting on a Seine River Cruise

The VIP service starts the moment you present your reservation voucher at the ticket booth at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, on the left bank of the Seine. You get a tingle of pleasure when you are the first to board and are led to the private deck at the front of the boat, the perfect place for viewing the sights of Paris as they drift past. A flight of three champagnes chilling on ice, with real champagne glasses, are arranged on a small table.

As you sail past world-famous monuments, a professional sommelier takes you on a journey of exploration with champagne as the focus. During the cruise, you taste three very different champagnes — a brut, a demi-sec and a rosé. The pours are generous and each champagne tastes distinctly different from the others. We had a blast on the boat!

It starts at 10:00 AM, so not too early!

Talking to a Champagne Sommelier

Champagne Tasting on a Seine River Cruise

After one champagne cruise we had a chance to catch up with Olivier, a sommelier who hosts these magical tours, to ask him a few champagne-challenge questions.

  • What's your favorite part of the Champagne river cruise? Being reminded how beautiful Paris is, and how happy people are to be here.
  • What's the most surprising or silliest question you've had about champagne? "Rosé champagne… is that Mexican champagne?"
  • What's your top food pairing with champagne? I love it with fresh oysters
  • Why would you recommend a champagne cruise on the Seine? It's a chance to cruise the Seine without feeling like part of a large crowd. You get to be in a private room with a private deck at the front of the boast, so the experience feels exclusive, while still being good value for money.
  • If you were on a desert island, what champagne brand would you bring? I'm not certain, but whatever champagne I chose I would bring a Jeroboam of it. [A Jeroboam is the equivalent of six 750 ml bottles of wine!]
  • What's your number-one landmark , monument, or bridge you can see on the champagne cruise? I'm in love with the Pont Neuf. [Despite its name, "neuf" meaning "new", Pont Neuf is the oldest bridge in Paris. Built in 1578, it links the Left Bank with the Right Bank on the western point of Ile de la Cite.]
  • What's your favorite champagne memory? When a gentleman proposed on the champagne cruise. She said yes!
