Lorde announces new album Solar Power and world tour dates

Get ready to dance like no one's watching.

Lorde is back, and she's ready to rule your playlists.

A little more than a week after dropping her new summer bop, "Solar Power," which was streamed 30 million times in five days, the singer has announced the release date and track list of her upcoming third album, which arrives Aug. 20.

Produced by Jack Antonoff , the LP, also titled Solar Power, boasts 12 new songs inspired by the "natural world," Lorde said in a statement.

In a letter emailed to fans earlier this month, Lorde revealed details about the album and its visuals. "There's someone I want you to meet," she wrote. "Her feet are bare at all times. She's sexy, playful, feral, and free. She's a modern girl in a deadstock bikini, in touch with her past and her future, vibrating at the highest level when summer comes around. Her skin is glowing, her lovers are many. I'm completely obsessed with her, and soon you will be too… It's my divine pleasure to be introducing you, at long last, to my third studio album, SOLAR POWER."

Lorde added that the record is infused with "that infectious, flirtatious summer energy that takes hold of us all" and that it immortalizes "the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I'm outdoors. In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I've learnt to breathe out, and tune in."

To promote the album, the 24-year-old songwriter recently unveiled a cheeky photo of her leaping over a camera on her website . Her pal Ophelia snapped the shot in New Zealand. She also confirmed that she'd reunited with "Royals" director Joel Kefali for the "Solar Power" video, which features her in a yellow skirt and top, dancing in the sand as she sings an ode to the warmer months. The works form "an entire cinematic universe."

"I made something that encapsulates where I'm from — my family, my girlfriends, my outdoors, my constant ruminations," she said.

Lorde also announced the dates for her 2022 world tour, which kicks off Feb. 26 in New Zealand and lands in North America on April 3 in Nashville. Her final U.S. date will be May 7, 2022, in Santa Barbara.

Lorde Makes Up for Lost Time With Blissful Tour Opener in Nashville

By Jon Freeman

Jon Freeman

NASHVILLE — “This is crazy for me — I haven’t been just somewhere else doing this,” Lorde told the audience at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House midway through opening night of her 2022 Solar Power tour.

She wasn’t kidding: Though she’s had one-off appearances here and there, the New Zealand singer-songwriter’s last full concert took place in Mexico City in 2018, when she was touring behind her second album, Melodrama . Her sun-kissed 2021 album Solar Power was released into an entirely different world , one that was reeling from pandemic isolation and a little rusty on having communal music experiences. Thankfully, it’s an album that was designed to soothe and make that reentry process easy.

Split across a series of three acts, the Solar Power tour leaned heavily on material from its namesake album, but threw in a heavy dose of Melodrama and a sprinkling of Pure Heroine for a show that could be intimate one moment, ecstatic the next. Hard to say if it was inspired by Lorde’s long gap between tours, but the passage of time even worked its way into Lorde’s set design — the focal point of her stage was a massive fulcrum that rotated a full 360 degrees at its base and doubled as both a sundial and a stairway ascending into the heavens. A giant orb was suspended above it on a backdrop, accented by dramatic lighting that made it glow in multiple colors.

In her opening act, Lorde began “Leader of a New Regime” behind the large circular base of the stairway, only her silhouette visible to the audience. When she emerged to sing “Homemade Dynamite,” she was in an oversized pastel-green pantsuit, dancing down a set of risers from the back as the audience shouted along. Only a small group of accompanists, all in matching yellow suits, were onstage, and they stood nearly motionless — as much set decoration as backing band.

Lorde returned to the stage for the second act in a backless yellow dress and sang “The Path,” kicking off a run of songs that exemplified the blissed-out vibe of Solar Power more than any other part of the concert. Other band members joined her on the stage, tapping out relaxed drum grooves and watery guitar sounds that called to mind Sixties psychedelic pop and sunset-to-sunrise beach parties, with a brief piano-only section that included “Dominoes” and “Loveless.”

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

Even the electronic pulse of the Pure Heroine cut “Ribs” seemed at home in this section of the show, though Lorde’s way of hugging her sides at the end of the song indicated that heavy emotions were welcome to come out in this golden environment.

“I’ve got a lot of shit I’m gonna be pulling to the surface and releasing on this tour,” she said. “If you have any of those big, similar emotions want to let free in this very safe space, you are invited to do so.”

Those big emotions from the crowd were expressed most loudly on the selections from Melodrama . With her third and final set, Lorde — this time in a leotard with a glimmering, exaggerated bustle — ramped up the tempo with a few of her older tunes. The darker undertone of Solar Power ‘s “Mood Ring” gave way to “Sober” and “Supercut,” during which Lorde danced in joyous, spontaneous fashion while the audience sang along, then applauded when she collapsed in dramatic fashion on the stage.

Lorde joked about having written the sun-kissed “Solar Power” while “sitting on a rock in the middle of the ocean,” then walked around the edge of her rotating stage as if crashing through the hours to find the next sunrise. The set closed with the pulse-quickening rush of “Green Light,” followed by the “gentle comedown,” in Lorde’s words, of “Oceanic Feeling.” For her encore, she reprised breakout hit “Royals” and added in the Solar Power cut “Hold No Grudge.”

The Grand Ole Opry House tends to go underused outside of its main duties hosting the long-running Opry show, so it was a surprising, unlikely spot for Lorde to kick off this iteration of her tour (on Grammy Awards night , no less). No matter — the young pop star made up for lost time, ensuring everyone in the crowd felt welcome to get what they needed out of the experience, and they didn’t let her down.

“Oh my goodness me, Nashville,” Lorde told the crowd earlier in the show. “Thank you for being such a kind, sensitive little group of fuckin’ ragers.”

Solar Power Tour Set List: “Leader of a New Regime” “Homemade Dynamite” “Buzzcut Season” “Stoned at the Nail Salon” “Fallen Fruit” “The Path” “California” “Ribs” “Hard Feelings” “Dominoes” “Loveless” “Liability” “Secrets from a Girl (Who’s Seen It All)” “Mood Ring” “Sober” “Supercut” “Perfect Places” “Solar Power” “Green Light” “Oceanic Feeling”

Encore: “Royals” “Hold No Grudge”

Lorde’s Home Inspired Her New Album

lorde house tour

By Zoë Weiner

Lorde has largely stayed out of the public eye for the past three years, during which a lot has changed for the pop star. She recently moved out of her parents' New Zealand house and purchased a midcentury residence nearby. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the pop star—whose real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor—explains that her new album, Melodrama, came together largely through hanging out with her friends in her new backyard. “I would go [to New Zealand] and do everything that I end up writing about," she tells the magazine. "And then I'd fly 10,000 miles [to producer Jack Antonoff's Brooklyn home] and write about it."

Melodrama was produced by the aforementioned former Fun. band member Antonoff, whom Lorde met through his girlfriend, Lena Dunham (a celebrity she met chatting online “as one does,” she quips in the Rolling Stone interview). Lorde worked on much of the album in Antonoff and Dunham’s living room, and Dunham was always around to offer moral support. “She would come in and be like, ‘You’re incredible, you’re the greatest people, I love you, goodbye,’” the singer tells Rolling Stone.

According to the interview, moving out wasn't the only major change the 20-year-old star experienced during her time out of the spotlight. She broke up with her boyfriend and decorated her new house in her own unique style, complete with a “big, weird, very beautiful, quite saucy” painting by Celia Hempton in her bedroom. There's also hand-painted de Gournay jungle wallpaper in her living room, which Lorde describes as "a bizarre dream."

Another interesting highlight to come out of the profile: Like many artists before her ( Kanye West , Pharrell Williams, Mary J. Blige, to name a few ), the singer says she has a neurological condition called synesthesia, which allows her to “see” music as colors and “feel” it as textures. She says that her parents nurtured her abilities with their teaching techniques, which gave her an “overwhelming sensory experience of the world.” Perhaps that's why she's drawn to such bold decor at home.

Lorde at Alexandra Palace.

Lorde review – a magnificent night out

Alexandra Palace, London By turns tearful and rocking out, the New Zealand star is on a roll with cathartic cuts from her 2021 album Solar Power, including a stirring performance in Māori

“E aua,” sings Lorde intently, eyes scrunched shut, a familiar melody playing beneath, “Kohore ana pea aku mata.” This is her single Stoned at the Nail Salon – one of the most thoughtful and moving cuts from her 2021 album Solar Power – as many people will not have heard it before: sung in Te Reo Māori, the indigenous language of Aotearoa (latterly, New Zealand). Duetting alongside her countryman and support act Marlon Williams, this is the first time Lorde has performed the track, titled Mata Kohore , live. And it’s just one of a series of shiver-inducing moments in a set replete with emotion.

Tonight’s sold-out Alexandra Palace date marks the very end of Lorde’s UK tour. This time last week, she played the same song – in English – at Glastonbury, flanked by Arlo Parks and Clairo . In this vaulted greenhouse of a north London venue where the midsummer evening light gradually fades into dusk, there is a palpable sense of a performer reaching some kind of sunny upland. But it’s a hard-won victory.

There are angry tears, with Lorde speaking passionately about how the recent US supreme court reversal of women’s right to choose had affected her both mentally and physically. The singer urges her fans to let it all out, too. “There is no better public weeping spot than a Lorde gig,” she notes. Wrestling with plenty of “hard feelings” (as one of her song titles puts it), she alchemically processes them into joy tonight – often while sitting atop a narrow staircase.

The mood is buoyant, with people bawling the songs back to Lorde and pogo-ing en masse to the pummelling, club-adjacent cuts. It’s a magnificent night out, themed visually around her most recent album, but one that contains just a nanosecond or two of disquiet.

Lorde duets with Marlon Williams.

Mata Kohore formed part of a Te Reo Māori EP of Solar Power songs released last September , with proceeds going to two New Zealand charities. At the time of release, a debate ensued among Māori language activists as to whether Lorde’s was a tokenistic act or a useful fillip to the language. Even as the hairs stand up on your arms as she and Williams sing it, you wonder whether that very response might be inadvertently biased, romanticising a misappropriation of a cultural practice. Writing in the Guardian , however, Morgan Godfery (Te Pahipoto, Sāmoa), senior lecturer at the University of Otago, defended Lorde’s foray into Te Reo Māori as “a public good” , one made possible by many respected guardians of the language who assisted in the translations.

Then there is the matter of this tour’s inventive stage set. It’s a superb concept – a blond wood sundial, echoing the sun theme – that, combined with dazzling lighting, and a band and backing singers in frequent motion, recalls David Byrne’s celebrated no-cables, no-wires American Utopia show . But it also sometimes looks like a physics demonstration about to go wrong. Lorde’s ladder-like staircase is balanced on a large disc that acts like a fulcrum. The disc also doubles as a sun, a screen behind which Lorde can get changed in silhouette. Reversed, it’s a hollow bower in which she can sit. Mostly, though, the effect is that of an MDF seesaw threatening to tip over – as though anyone needed a little extra heart-in-mouth feeling on top of that generated by this artist’s bravura set.

Lacking the pounding dance beats of her previous work (2017’s Melodrama ) and doubling down on themes of retreat, reassessment and environmental doom, Lorde’s third album – on its release last year – sounded suspiciously like a letter of resignation from pop. On tracks such as California , relayed intensely tonight, the singer bids goodbye to the hard-partying pop star lifestyle, characterising the entire state as a borderline abusive partner.

Elsewhere, triggered by the smell of tequila, she looks askance at “supermodels all dancing round a pharoah’s tomb”; she won’t answer the phone “if it’s the label or the radio”. On Oceanic Feeling she yearns for enlightenment and looks forward to a time when she might “take off my robes and step into the choir”. On Stoned at the Nail Salon, there’s a wishbone hanging in her kitchen “just in case I wake up and realise I’ve chosen wrong”.

But the no-shoes, no-news mood of the Solar Power album is thrown into sharp relief by its delivery tonight. Previously, Lorde performed more statically, draped in robe-like garments, her microphone stand acting as her only prop. She has spoken in interviews about her anxiety and frequent states of overwhelm; in one of many speeches from the stage, she recalls wearing black all the time as a kind of “armour”.

Now, having spent time reassessing – and at the gym – she seems to have made her peace with pop stardom. She plays her most painful song – Writer in the Dark – to honour her distress at the Roe v Wade reversal, but elsewhere, Lorde is a blur of movement, lashing out with an arm on the beat, jumping up and down in place, sweating. She thanks her fans for being there for “all the versions of me”, and reassures us that “I will always be here for all the versions of you”. Resignation letter, rescinded: “I’ll come back,” she says, “as long as you’ll fucking have me.”

Lorde Announces Tour, Reveals Release Date and Tracklist for New Album Solar Power

By Evan Minsker and Allison Hussey

Lorde

Lorde made her big return earlier this month with the release of “ Solar Power ” and the promise that a new album of the same name would arrive later this year. Today, she’s officially announced the follow-up to 2017’s Melodrama : Solar Power is out August 20. Find the tracklist and already-iconic album cover below.

Along with the detailing of her album, Lorde has announced a 2022 tour. She’ll start things off in her native New Zealand in February before heading to the United States and Canada for spring concerts. Lorde’ll then go to Europe and the United Kingdom for more shows. Find her schedule below.

“Solar Power” arrived with a new music video co-directed by Lorde and previous collaborator Joel Kefali. The song was co-written and co-produced with Jack Antonoff. Phoebe Bridgers and Clairo provided backing vocals on the song. “The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalising the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors,” Lorde wrote in a newsletter upon the single’s release.

According to a press release, as an alternative to being released on CD, Solar Power will be available as “an eco-conscious Music Box,” which has visual content, handwritten notes, photos, and a download card. “I decided early on in the process of making this album that I also wanted to create an environmentally kind, forward-thinking alternative to the CD,” Lorde said in a statement. “I wanted this Music Box product to be similar in size, shape and price to a CD, to live alongside it in a retail environment, but be something which stands apart and that’s committed to the evolving nature of a modern album.”

In November 2019, Lorde wrote in a newsletter update to fans that she had paused work on a new album as she struggled with grief after the death of her dog Pearl. But in May 2020, she issued another update where she said she’d started working on a new album in December.

Last year, Lorde announced Going South , a photo book of images shot by her friend Harriet Were during their trip through Antarctica in 2019. This spring, the singer-songwriter made an appearance alongside Marlon Williams during a performance in Auckland to cover Bruce Springsteen’s “Tougher Than the Rest.”

Find out where Melodrama landed on Pitchfork’s “ The 200 Best Albums of the 2010s .”

Lorde's first U.S. tour in four years to kick off at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry House

lorde house tour

Nearly four years after she wrapped the U.S. leg of her last tour in Nashville, Lorde plans to return to Music City to launch a new run of North American shows.

The 24-year-old New Zealand-based singer-songwriter is scheduled to perform April 3, 2022, at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville — kicking off a run of U.S. shows as part of a world tour announced Monday.

The Opry House show comes in support of "Solar Power," an anticipated third album from Lorde, set to be released Aug. 20.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via ticketmaster.com . A fan pre-sale kicks off at 10 a.m. Thursday. More information on pre-sale and general tickets can be found at  lorde.co.nz/tour .

Lorde last played Middle Tennessee twice in support of her sophomore album " Melodrama " — once at Bonnaroo in 2017 and in April 2018 at Bridgestone Arena.

The singer surprised fans hungry for new music earlier this month by releasing the sun-soaked title track from her upcoming album. She reunited with collaborator Jack Antonoff — known for his work with Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey and solo project, Bleachers — to co-produce the lead single.

In a news release, Lorde described the new music as "a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors. In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through."

U.S. tour dates include stops in Detroit, Chicago, New York City and Los Angeles. Lorde wraps her North American dates May 7, 2022, in Santa Barbara, California.

Lorde Announces Solar Power Album Track List, Release Date, and World Tour

Portrait of Rebecca Alter

Ah, “ Solar Power. ” Lorde’s first new song in four years was the aural equivalent of an out-of-office email on a sunny summer Friday, a flighty beach jam inspired by Cazzie David’s rich dad’s vacation house . It was a departure from the moody, profound Melodrama, and we can officially declare it’s not just a one-off single but Lorde’s whole new era. Today, Lorde announced that her third album, also titled Solar Power, will be released on August 20, finally ending our Lorde drought. She also announced that she will embark on a World Tour in February 2022, beginning in Christchurch, New Zealand, and working her way through Australia, the U.S., Canada, and Europe, before ending in Berlin on June 23.

Regarding the album, Lorde says in a statement, “The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors. In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.” Sounds beautiful, although as a total indoor kid, this smacks of betrayal. Best of all, Lorde shared her tracklist for the 12-track album. We’re especially ready for Track 4:

1. The Path 2. Solar Power 3. California 4. Stoned in the Nail Salon 5. Fallen Fruit 6. Secrets From a Girl (Who’s Seen It All) 7. The Man with An Axe 8. Dominoes 9. Big Star 10. Leader of a New Regime 11. Mood Ring 12. Oceanic Feeling

Though still a teenager Lorde is swiftly establishing herself as a mighty force on the music scene, co-headlining shows with established acts like Vampire Weekend and Arctic Monkeys.

The young yet prolific New Zealand-born singer/songwriter, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor, released her first EP The Love Club, her first No. 1 single "Royals", and her first album Pure Heroine back-to-back-to-back. Her sound is a sparse affair that confidently drifts on the strength of beats, loops, and phenomenal vocals.

The pop and alternative worlds don't always mix, but fans of both styles have flocked to Lorde's electropop-driven sound and soulful voice. And despite her pop successes she's managed to craft a bit of an anti-pop image for herself, not afraid to sound off with opinions - both good and bad - about fellow young stars. Fans who've bought tickets to see Lorde in concert rave about her raw talent while looking forward to watching her grow as an artist and performer.

Lorde was discovered when she was just 12, after her performance of the Duffy song "Warwick Avenue" at a school talent show caught the ear of a record label talent scout. When she's not writing music Lorde listens to pop, hip hop, and electronic music and cites soul legends like Otis Redding as well as modern acts like Bon Iver and James Blake among her influences.

Always amazing

I’ve been a fan of lorde for years and her concerts are always amazing. She has such a toxic level of energy that you can help but dance and jump along with her. I need to go to more concerts during each tour, because she makes each show unique in one way or another. 10/10

Lorde Makes Up for Lost Time With Blissful Tour Opener in Nashville

‘Solar Power’ tour kicks off at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House with the star’s first full concert since 2018

' src=

Lorde, born Ella Marija Lani Yellic O’Connor on 7 November 1996, is an electro-pop singer and songwriter from Devonport, New Zealand.

Lorde signed to Universal Music Group in her early teens and was soon paired with producer and songwriter Joel Little (who has won Grammy Awards for songwriting and was the lead singer for New Zealand pop punk band, Goodnight Nurse). Little co-wrote and produced most of Lorde’s works, her first being “The Love Club EP” in March 2013. The EP reached the number two positions in national record charts in New Zealand and Australia.

A few months later Lorde released her debut single titled “Royals” and it was an instant, international hit. It even reached the top spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, making Lorde the youngest solo artist to have a number one US hit single (the last artist to hold to title was Tiffany and her single “I Think We’re Alone Now” in 1987). “Royals” first gained so much recognition on YouTube for its video, directed by Joel Kefali, which received over 750,000 views.

“Pure Heroine,” Lorde’s debut “indietronica” album, was released later in 2013 and predictably achieved immediate chart success in her home country and Australia. The dream-pop album also reached number three on the US Billboard 200. Other than “Royals,” singles from the album include “Team,” “Glory and Gore” and “Tennis Court.”

Lorde has also collaborated with UK house and pop duo, Disclosure, who released a remix of “Royals” (combined with Aluna George’s “White Noise”). She has also become revered as one of the most influential teenagers in popular culture, famously speaking out about feminism being “completely natural” and condemning the media for photo shopping photographs of her; even tweeting an original image of herself next to the photo shopped one, stating “two photos from today, one edited so my skin is perfect and one real. remember flaws are ok :-)”

The Melodrama World Tour Brisbane

Lorde of the Riverstage

The best time to see an artist perform is when they have less than three albums, you are pretty much guaranteed to get an awesome set without filler and no exclusions. In this respect Lorde did not disappoint and along with Porter Robinson (also at the Riverstage in February) was one of the best gigs of the year.

Melodrama is an interesting album, despite receiving critical acclaim, I often glean that some yearned for a repeat of Pure Heroine. At 40 minutes the album at face value do not appear substantial, but those will be some of the best minutes of the year, emotionally charged, unique, at times energetic and more diverse than her first offering.

Lorde opened with Homemade Dynamite, a great way to start. Magnets was a special treat, I didn’t expect that the Disclosure track would make it into the set despite it’s strong showing in the 2015 Triple J Hottest 100. Lorde weaved here own personal narrative through the set, recalling the stories behind tracks Tennis Court (a personal favourite), A World Alone and the Louvre.

Lorde covered Springsteen’s I’m on Fire with guitarist Ray Suen, and worked in 400 Lux, a seminal moment which slowed the tempo at the midpoint of the set. Paying homage to Brisbane band Powderfinger, “I was raised on Powderfinger. That was my shit,” she said before blending an intro from My Happiness into Liability.

Pure Heroine tracks Royals and Team were well received, and built the intensity to the final song Green Light, cue the confetti storm. Lorde returned to play Loveless as the encore.

On the down side, there were no tracks from Hunger Games, Meltdown or Yellow Flicker Beat could have been worked well with the set. Writer in the Dark was a curious omission.

All in all, one of the best shows of the year, on a beautiful night, and well supported by George Maple, who will be playing in Brisbane this coming February.

Lorde is revolutionary for her age. Her first album to go big is one of the few that I can listen to all the way through and love every song that plays. "Pure Heroin" is exactly right, it's so addictive. Lorde is only 17 but speaks to issues and a lifestyle that is so much more than the other teenagers making music right now. There's real depth to it, unlike Kesha or Miley Cyrus - and her voice is amazing! I saw her live in Austin earlier this year, and it was incredible - her stage presence is so delightful and you can tell she is loving every minute of her success right now. She played all the songs on her album and talked a bit about them - but not so much that you just wanted her to get on with the show. Her music is so simple but her voice is so strong and powerful that it doesn't need any fluff in it. I love how she embraces her flaws and encourages us all to do so as well. You'll find her commenting on photoshopped pictures of herself ousting the editing that was done. She also tries to be conscious of the audience she is playing to - she knows that young people, girls especially, are listening to her music and she wants to portray the message of strength and independence; this is a welcome message from the boy dependent, superficial, materialistic songs that are being made by most pop music artists. She really stands out. Doesn't try to be sexy or show the world that she's growing up, it's much more grounded than that. If you haven't listened yet, I highly recommend it. I know I'll be waiting for her next album.

Omg. Where do I start? Amazinggggg.

The show all started when Tove Styrke got on stage. She was alright. I did like her cover of liability.

Next was Run The Jewels. And they focused on 3 things, People yelling “R T J!”, middle fingers, and flashing lights that could give you a seizure. I couldn’t even understand what they were saying. They had talent though.

Then, the queen came on. She started with Sober, like blue lights. Next was Homeade Dynamite and Tennis court. Amazing. Then colorful stage for magnets. Then Buzzcut Season and 400 lux, then came a new version of ribs. Then the louvre, hard feelings, and yellow flicker beat. Then she sat down, gave a 7 minute speech, and sang both writer in the dark and liabillity. Both really beautiful. Then she got up and sang Sober ll, and Supercut. Then, came the hits. ROYALSSSS. She invited us to sing and we all lost our voices. Then came Perfect Places. With a child choir which was cute. Then the last song was green light, she sang it and before the confetti, she told us to jump, and “fucking lose it”. Then there was A LOT (almost too much) CONFETTIII!!!! Then she went off. Then came back on for the encore, It had Loveless, then a non released catchy song called “Precious Metals”, then her last song (for real) was Team. She went down to General Admission at the end. And gave everyone high fives. IT WAS AMAZING. Definitely go see her if she’s coming near you.

Oh Lorde she is not one to disappoint! Singing all the favourites from her most recent album 'Pure Heroine' and more of her latest songs I hadn't even discovered before. While performing at Festival Hall, in Melbourne I didn’t think the venue put Lorde’s talent to justice but maybe it was just the seating. I feel like Lorde deserved a much larger ‘stadium-like’ venue to allow as many people as possible to witness one of the most prominent artists in the "post-millennial" era. Only a 17 year old from New Zealand, I don’t think you can get anymore unique than that! I was worried it was going to be one of those ‘one set stage’ performances but Lorde managed to have a costume change in the middle of her hit song “Team”! Along with varying Special effects including lights, cameras and a lot of action in the background while she was singing. There was a revolving chandelier, many different coloured lights, and a screen to allow those not in the mosh pit to see her face up close, adding to the atmosphere. Her accompanying act was way better than I expected, SAFIA has now got a new number one fan. The concert overall was very memorable leaving me wanting to relive all the songs performed on the night from both acts. Can’t wait for another concert from the one and only, Lorde!

EPIC. Fireworks, smoke, flashing lights ... costume changes, short videos, chat sessions ... this was one of the best concerts I’ve been to ! Somehow it didn’t feel super super extravagant and large scale though, which I loved because it made the whole experience so much more intimate. We arrived at around 6, and because that was when the gates opened we expected people to have been already lining up for ages and we thought we would get a terrible place in the mosh pit but we were actually still so close to the front! I loved how Lorde chatted to us like friends and really interacted with the audience. She comes across as such a wonderful, kind and genuine young woman, and it was so gorgeous to watch her sing and dance her beautiful heart out. She played a lot of her old music from Pure Heroine as well which was awesome - including Royals, Team, Tennis Court, Buzzcut Season and Ribs. She also played Magnets (by Disclosure) and a beautiful rendition of I’m on Fire (Bruce Springsteen) in combination with 400 Lux. That was possibly my favorite performance of the night. Green Light was the finale and was absolutely awesome of course. I would highly recommend you see Lorde live for an amazing once in a lifetime experience!!

Oh my Lorde! I highly recommend all lovers of music to attend at least one Lorde concert - it was the best concert I've been to yet! Couldn't fault it; her tone was perfect, her dancing crazy and awesome, her humbleness astounded me especially how she informed the audience of meaning of her songs. The atompshere was buzzing! She captured her audience, with her use of the whole stage and just having a good time! The lights were great and added a good vibe to her performance. I thought it was lovely how she apologised for rescheduling her show "I'm so sorry for having to reschedule I became gravely ill in Las Vegas - mum told me I had to reschedule. I told her 'I'm going to Australia if I have to go on my own'. I also thought if I'm this sick I can't give you guys a proper performance- I wouldn't be able to dance around and get into it like I'm doing tonight!" I honestly cannot stress enough how great this show was - any age can go, sing their heart out and dance till their feet fall off. This young kiwi girl definetly has a "speeshil" (how she pronounces the word special) nack for performing and entertaining - knowing what the audience wants to see! If I was to rate it, honestly 10/10- had the best night ever!

At the center of the stage there’s a staircase on the top of a round structure. The whole thing is placed on a round platform.

During the first song, Leader of a New Regime, Lorde plays from behind a screen.

The support singers look like akward nerds dressed like The Beatles in the 60s. Their dresses are the color of the sun. Lorde's look is curated by Karla Welch.

She is really good at switching between her newer songs, with acoustic guitars, and the older ones with electronic bases.

In Buzzcut Season the support singers do a good job providing support voices. Their performance is quite staged, with them turning towards the audience only when they are singing.

It’s in this song that I realized how powerful the voice ensemble is.

Lorde’s songs, like Lana Del Rey’s, seem to describe a lazy life spent on the side of pools, just enjoying oneself.

During the songs she takes time to interact with the crowd, she reflects on what happened in Oslo last week, and she tells about her memories of visiting the city. She also shares how she got rid of stage fright.

A camera films her so that it is possible for everyone in the audience to see her expressions.

A great experience overall.

What can I not say about this queen bee? She's barely 18 years old (birthday in November) and it's exhilarating to watch her evolve. Today's pop music needs a facelift and a lot of us are counting on Lorde. She is currently touring smaller theater venues to get her feet wet. Sure, she could have accepted the offer to tour with Katy Perry and jumped right into the stadium crowd. But this is Lorde, and she already knows that she will be bigger, and she will do it her own way. For those of you who got to see her in theses smaller venues, consider yourself lucky because she will get bigger and bigger and pretty soon it will get harder to get that intimate experience. I'm one of those lucky ones and what I saw was just mind blowing. To me, she almost has that spellbinding Stevie Nicks presence. Her outfit was a simple two piece (with costume changes into different colors) yet she was more seductive than artists who show more skin.

Right now, her live performance is a bit unpolished, but what I saw was a taste of possible perfection to come. Give her two more years to work out the kinks and she will surely bring magic to stadiums across the world!

Shoutout to Lorde for being the most wonderful human being on the planet.. Only seventeen and across the world from her home of New Zeland touring?? Fricken amazing.

So I love Lorde and she made the wait to see her live sooo worth it! She played most of my favorite songs from her album Pure Heroine. The concert was crazy and up beat. Not to mention the awesome lights, fog bubbles, and confetti (WITH HER FACE ON IT) that covered the crowd!!! The venue I was at had GA so everyone was all squished together in an amazing pit of Lorde love and sweat, dancing and having the time of their lives. Definitely my favorite concert I've ever been to and I can not wait until she is back in the area so I can see her again!!! Some fun facts: All of her props that she uses on stage are from her home town in NZ The bass is sooo crazy, be ready! She spent a good six minutes just talking about her life and creating her album (Not gonna lie I was tearin up a little) It was actually the best night of my life

Lorde's first of two shows in Berkely 10/2/14 was nothing short of amazing. She sounds just like she does on her record with her powerful vocals. The atmosphere was incredible with her energetic dancing around stage, her multiple costume changes, visually beautiful setup and all around great music quality. She played her entire album along with 2 EP tracks (bravado and biting down), 2 covers (Kanye west and Bon iver), her single song No Better, and what made the night really special was premiering her single she dropped 2 days before Yellow Flicker Beat for the first time live. She reflected on the times she's been in the bay area before and made us all feel special and loved, everything about the show was great I couldn't have asked for a better show, and afterwords she met the fans, myself included making it one of the best concerts I've ever been to. She is incredibly sweet, kind, and talented. I would always recommend for others to see her live show, it'll make them say Praise the Lorde!

Review and setlist: Lorde at the Met

Her ‘Solar Power’ show looks very different from 2018′s ‘Melodrama’ arena tour.

Lorde performs during her Solar Power Tour stop at the sold out Met Philadelphia on April 20, 2022.

The Met Philadelphia is a capacious space, with a stage framed by a 38-foot proscenium arch that’s big enough to fit a full-length basketball court.

But the North Broad Street opera house might feel like a cozy place if you were a 25-year-old pop star from New Zealand who was catapulted to international stardom at 16 and is seeking to regain her bearings after seeming a little lost when playing oversized arenas like the Wells Fargo Center in 2018.

That is, if you were Lorde. On Wednesday night, the singer born Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor brought her Solar Power tour to the Met for a sold-out 1-hour-40-minute show built around her 2021 album of the same name.

The evening was framed as an exercise in self-care, a treasured opportunity for a voice of her generation to get back in touch with 3,400 of her closest friends and followers.

Solar Power is Lorde’s third album, after the breakout success of her 2013 debut Pure Heroine , which built a bond with her age cohort by rejecting high-gloss materialism for more substantive fulfillment, and 2017′s tormented, ecstatic Melodrama , which confirmed her talent and is her best work.

“We don’t need that kind of luxe,” Lorde sang on “Royals,” the sleek breakout hit from Pure Heroine , which she saved for the second spot in a three-song encore on Wednesday. “We crave a different kind of buzz.”

On Solar Power , that buzz is a chilled out, relaxed vibe that comes from toning down the thrashed-about electro-pop energy of Melodrama in hopes of finding a restorative sense of calm and well-being.

It’s an album about getting away from the hurly-burly of everyday life, and unplugging in pursuit of the authentic self. Like her friend Taylor Swift, with whom she shares a producer in ubiquitous New Jerseyan Jack Antonoff , Lorde put out pandemic music that embraces the natural world to connect with fans on a human scale.

At the Met, where boisterous Los Angeles indie-pop singer Remi Wolf was the opening act, Lorde’s entry music on stage was the Beatles “Sun King.”

The chief design element on stage was a giant rotating sun dial — whose arm , which I’ve learned is known as a gnomon , thanks to Lorde — also served as a staircase to the heavens in which she and the seven members of her backing ensemble (who were never introduced) were able to climb up and down.

The Solar Power songs early in the set emphasized the gotta-get-away theme. In “The Path,” she referred to herself as “born in the year of OxyContin” and as a “teen millionaire caught in the camera flash” who “won’t take the call if it’s the label or the radio.”

In the shimmery, acoustic “Stoned at the Nail Salon,” she sang, “My hot blood’s been burnin’ for several summers now / It’s time to cool it down, wherever that leads.”

(And it needs be said, she sang clear and strong all night in her just slightly raspy, full-of-character voice, showing no signs of suffering from what she termed the “horrendous laryngitis” that caused her to cancel shows last week.)

“Stoned” also include a perhaps disingenuous lyric about leaving adolescence behind and moving into the equanimity of adulthood: “All the music you loved at 16, you’ll grow out of.”

That may be true of Lorde herself, as evidenced by the Solar Power songs, on record and in performance, that leaned into handmade, non-electronic musical textures. But it’s certainly not true of her devoted fan base.

At the Met, the crowd was made up mostly of women in their mid-20s who stood throughout and sang along with zeal, particularly on songs from Pure Heroine and Melodrama , and also mimicked the star of the show’s interpretative dance moves, which mostly involve the movement of her arms.

Early on, Lorde took a seat at the base of the sun dial for some skillful, genuine-seeming stage patter, emphasizing the nine years she and her fans have been linked to one another.

She claimed to look forward to the Philadelphia date on every tour because of the passion of the audiences, and said, “You may have noticed we’re in an intimate room right now. I wanted to feel you, to see you, to hear you.”

The tricky part about building a show around the mostly subdued songs on Solar Power is that, save for the Primal Scream-like celebration of the title cut, which nods to A Tribe Called Quest with its question and answer “Can I kick it? Yeah, I can,” they are not party starters.

So in order to turn up the energy on the evening, Lorde needed to rely on more tried-and-true power sources. Those turned out to be Pure Heroine’s “Ribs,” and Melodrama’s cathartic “Green Light” and “Perfect Places,” which brought the room brilliantly to life.

The latter song led Lorde to dub the Met audience “the best singing crowd of the tour.” And for their lusty efforts, the enthusiastic crowd was rewarded with the first three-song encore the singer has played on this tour.

The added song was Pure Heroine fan favorite “400 Lux,” which preceded a version of “Royals” sung as Lorde stood in silhouette before a glowing orb, and “Team,” which resonated with a lyric that reminded performer and audience exactly where they stood with one another: “We’re on each other’s team.”

Some say that the best way to take your mind off a broken heart is a shopping spree.

And for a chart-topper like Lorde, retail therapy amounts to a cool AUD$2.8 million after the 19-year-old reportedly splashed out on a luxury four-bedroom villa in her home city of Auckland, New Zealand.

The singer's pricey purchase comes after reports that she has split with her longtime boyfriend James Lowe.

Stuff  reports that Herne Bay is the country's most expensive suburb, with an average house price of NZ$1.85 million.

Despite the hefty price tag, the Royals songstress can afford it.

In 2014 she made Forbes ' 30 Under 30 list, and last year the Business Insider  named her one of the most powerful people under 30.

While Lorde's financial affairs couldn't be in better condition, her love life doesn't appear to be running so smoothly.

The superstar set tongues wagging after fans noticed both she and her boyfriend of three years James Lowe haven't been seen on their respective Instagram account for months.

Online trolls begun asking if the pair have split, prompting the Team singer's mother Sonja Yelich to fire off an angry Tweet saying: 'Glad you're having fun at my daughter's expense.'

'What is your contribution to NZ [New Zealand]?' she went on.

The original Tweeter appeared shocked by Sonja's defence of her daughter and appeared to back track insisting no offence was intended, saying: 'True, no fun being had here.'

The NZ Herald  reports Lorde and James, 26, have gone separate ways despite Lorde - real name Ella Yelich-O'Connor - often posting images of the couple travelling around New Zealand looking enamoured.

Several sources have reportedly told the newspaper the couple ended their relationship towards the end of 2015.

James hasn't featured in Lorde's Instagram posts since September, when she posted a bare faced snap of him entitled simply 'facetime angel'.

Last year he took to his website Ono Field to talk about what it was like dating an international superstar.

'Since originally sitting down to write this post, Ella has become a two time Grammy winner. She has taken home a Brit too. Currently she is on the opposite side of the world on tour,' he wrote.

'As much as I miss her, I couldn’t be prouder of what she has achieved so far.

'If you are lucky enough to attend one of her shows on this current tour, you’ll experience more than just her voice....I can’t wait to see it myself next month.'
