Standard Ignition 2 Terminal Cruise Control Release Switch

Motorcraft cruise control cut-out switch, what does a cruise control release switch do.

Cruise control is a feature found on most modern vehicles, and is most commonly deactivated by a switch triggered by your brake pedal. The cruise control release switch turns off cruise control when your brake pedal is pushed down, allowing your vehicle to slow down as needed. The pressure applied to your brake pedal turns off the cruise control, preventing it from reactivating until the driver manually turns the cruise control back on or resets their preferred speed. Your vehicle's cruise control release switch and brake light switch are commonly integrated into one switch, allowing the brake pedal to perform both functions at the same time. Because the two switches are integrated, common signs of failure may include brake lights not activating when you activate the brake pedal, or the cruise control not turning off when the brake pedal is depressed. This may require the driver to turn off the cruise control manually, which can be dangerous and confusing while driving. Both your cruise control release switch and your brake light switch control important safety features in your vehicle and should be repaired promptly once the problem is diagnosed. If only one of these problems is occurring, you may instead have a blown fuse, failing relay, or damage to one or more of the wiring harnesses or connectors that control these systems in your vehicle.
